⁷ Καὶ (And) ἐγένετο (there came) νεφέλη (a cloud) ἐπισκιάζουσα (overshadowing) αὐτοῖς (them), καὶ (and) ἐγένετο (there came) φωνὴ (a voice) ἐκ (out of) τῆς (the) νεφέλης (cloud): “Οὗτός (This) ἐστιν (is) ὁ (the) Υἱός (Son) μου (of Me), ὁ (the) ἀγαπητός (beloved); ἀκούετε (listen you) αὐτοῦ (to Him).”

¹⁷ καὶ (And) ἰδοὺ (behold), φωνὴ (a voice) ἐκ (out) τῶν (of the) οὐρανῶν (heavens), λέγουσα (saying), “Οὗτός (This) ἐστιν (is) ὁ (the) Υἱός (Son) μου (of me), ὁ (the) ἀγαπητός (beloved), ἐν (in) ᾧ (whom) εὐδόκησα (I was well pleased).”

⁵ Ἔτι (While yet) αὐτοῦ (he) λαλοῦντος (was speaking), ἰδοὺ (behold), νεφέλη (a cloud) φωτεινὴ (bright) ἐπεσκίασεν (overshadowed) αὐτούς (them); καὶ (and) ἰδοὺ (behold), φωνὴ (a voice) ἐκ (out of) τῆς (the) νεφέλης (cloud), λέγουσα (saying), “Οὗτός (This) ἐστιν (is) ὁ (the) Υἱός (Son) μου (of Me), ὁ (the) ἀγαπητός (beloved), ἐν (in) ᾧ (whom) εὐδόκησα (I am well pleased). ἀκούετε (Listen) αὐτοῦ (to Him)!” ⁶ καὶ (And) ἀκούσαντες (having heard it), οἱ (the) μαθηταὶ (disciples) ἔπεσαν (fell) ἐπὶ (upon) πρόσωπον (face) αὐτῶν (of them) καὶ (and) ἐφοβήθησαν (were terrified) σφόδρα (greatly). ⁷ Καὶ (And) προσῆλθεν (having come to them) ὁ (-) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus), καὶ (and) ἁψάμενος (having touched) αὐτῶν (them), εἶπεν (He said), “Ἐγέρθητε (Rise up), καὶ (and) μὴ (not) φοβεῖσθε (be afraid).”

⁶³ Ὁ (-) δὲ (And) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus) ἐσιώπα (was silent). Καὶ (And) ὁ (the) ἀρχιερεὺς (high priest) εἶπεν (said) αὐτῷ (to Him), “Ἐξορκίζω (I adjure) σε (you) κατὰ (by) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (God) τοῦ (the) ζῶντος (living), ἵνα (that) ἡμῖν (us) εἴπῃς (You tell) εἰ (if) σὺ (You) εἶ (are) ὁ (the) Χριστὸς (Christ), ὁ (the) Υἱὸς (Son) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God).” ⁶⁴ Λέγει (Says) αὐτῷ (to him) ὁ (-) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus), “Σὺ (You) εἶπας (have said). πλὴν (But) λέγω (I say) ὑμῖν (to you), ἀπ’ (from) ἄρτι (now) ὄψεσθε (you will see) τὸν (the) Υἱὸν (Son) τοῦ (-) ἀνθρώπου (of Man) καθήμενον (sitting) ἐκ (at) δεξιῶν (the right hand) τῆς (-) δυνάμεως (of Power) καὶ (and) ἐρχόμενον (coming) ἐπὶ (upon) τῶν (the) νεφελῶν (clouds) τοῦ (-) οὐρανοῦ (of heaven).”

⁴³ πέποιθεν (He trusted) ἐπὶ (on) τὸν (-) Θεόν (God). ῥυσάσθω (Let Him deliver) νῦν (now) εἰ (if) θέλει (He wants) αὐτόν (Him). εἶπεν (He said) γὰρ (for) ὅτι (-), ‘Θεοῦ (Of God) εἰμι (I am) Υἱός (the Son).’”

⁵⁴ Ὁ (-) δὲ (And) ἑκατόνταρχος (the centurion) καὶ (and) οἱ (those) μετ’ (with) αὐτοῦ (him) τηροῦντες (keeping guard over) τὸν (-) Ἰησοῦν (Jesus), ἰδόντες (having seen) τὸν (the) σεισμὸν (earthquake) καὶ (and) τὰ (the things) γενόμενα* (taking place), ἐφοβήθησαν (feared) σφόδρα (greatly), λέγοντες (saying), “Ἀληθῶς (Truly) Θεοῦ (God’s) Υἱὸς (Son) ἦν (was) οὗτος (this).”

¹¹ καὶ (And) φωνὴ (a voice) ἐγένετο (came) ἐκ (out of) τῶν (the) οὐρανῶν (heavens): “Σὺ (You) εἶ (are) ὁ (the) Υἱός (Son) μου (of Me), ὁ (the) ἀγαπητός (beloved), ἐν (in) σοὶ (You) εὐδόκησα (I am well pleased).”

³⁴ Ταῦτα (These things) δὲ (then) αὐτοῦ (as he) λέγοντος (is saying), ἐγένετο (came) νεφέλη (a cloud) καὶ (and) ἐπεσκίαζεν (was overshadowing) αὐτούς (them); ἐφοβήθησαν (they feared) δὲ (then) ἐν (in) τῷ (the) εἰσελθεῖν (entering) αὐτοὺς (of them) εἰς (into) τὴν (the) νεφέλην (cloud). ³⁵ καὶ (And) φωνὴ (a voice) ἐγένετο (came) ἐκ (out of) τῆς (the) νεφέλης (cloud), λέγουσα (saying), “Οὗτός (This) ἐστιν (is) ὁ (the) Υἱός (Son) μου (of Me), ὁ (-) ἐκλελεγμένος (whom I have chosen); αὐτοῦ (Him) ἀκούετε (listen to)!” ³⁶ καὶ (And) ἐν (as) τῷ (-) γενέσθαι (occurred) τὴν (the) φωνὴν (voice), εὑρέθη (was found) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus) μόνος (alone). καὶ (And) αὐτοὶ (they) ἐσίγησαν (were silent), καὶ (and) οὐδενὶ (to no one) ἀπήγγειλαν (they told) ἐν (in) ἐκείναις (those) ταῖς (the) ἡμέραις (days) οὐδὲν (anything) ὧν (of what) ἑώρακαν (they had seen).

³⁴ κἀγὼ (And I) ἑώρακα (have seen) καὶ (and) μεμαρτύρηκα (have borne witness) ὅτι (that) οὗτός (this) ἐστιν (is) ὁ (the) Υἱὸς (Son) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God).”

⁴⁹ Ἀπεκρίθη (Answered) αὐτῷ (Him) Ναθαναήλ (Nathanael), “Ῥαββί (Rabbi), σὺ (You) εἶ (are) ὁ (the) Υἱὸς (Son) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God); σὺ (You) Βασιλεὺς (King) εἶ (are) τοῦ (-) Ἰσραήλ (of Israel).”

¹⁶ Οὕτως (Thus) γὰρ (for) ἠγάπησεν (loved) ὁ (-) Θεὸς (God) τὸν (the) κόσμον (world), ὥστε (that) τὸν (the) Υἱὸν (Son), τὸν (the) μονογενῆ (only begotten), ἔδωκεν (He gave), ἵνα (so that) πᾶς (everyone) ὁ (-) πιστεύων (believing) εἰς (in) αὐτὸν (Him) μὴ (not) ἀπόληται (should perish), ἀλλ’ (but) ἔχῃ (should have) ζωὴν (life) αἰώνιον (eternal). ¹⁷ οὐ (Not) γὰρ (for) ἀπέστειλεν (sent) ὁ (-) Θεὸς (God) τὸν (-) Υἱὸν (His Son) εἰς (into) τὸν (the) κόσμον (world) ἵνα (that) κρίνῃ (He might judge) τὸν (the) κόσμον (world), ἀλλ’ (but) ἵνα (that) σωθῇ (might be saved) ὁ (the) κόσμος (world) δι’ (through) αὐτοῦ (Him). ¹⁸ ὁ (The one) πιστεύων (believing) εἰς (on) αὐτὸν (Him) οὐ (not) κρίνεται (is judged); ὁ (the one) ‹δὲ› (but) μὴ (not) πιστεύων (believing) ἤδη (already) κέκριται (has been judged), ὅτι (because) μὴ (not) πεπίστευκεν (he has believed) εἰς (in) τὸ (the) ὄνομα (name) τοῦ (of the) μονογενοῦς (only begotten) Υἱοῦ (Son) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God).

¹⁸ Διὰ (Because of) τοῦτο (this) οὖν (therefore), μᾶλλον (the more) ἐζήτουν (were seeking) αὐτὸν (Him) οἱ (the) Ἰουδαῖοι (Jews) ἀποκτεῖναι (to kill), ὅτι (because) οὐ (not) μόνον (only) ἔλυεν (was He breaking) τὸ (the) σάββατον (Sabbath), ἀλλὰ (but) καὶ (also) Πατέρα (Father) ἴδιον (His own) ἔλεγεν (He was calling) τὸν (-) Θεόν (God), ἴσον (equal) ἑαυτὸν (Himself) ποιῶν (making) τῷ (to) Θεῷ (God).

²² οὐδὲ (Not even) γὰρ (for) ὁ (the) Πατὴρ (Father) κρίνει (judges) οὐδένα (no one), ἀλλὰ (but) τὴν (-) κρίσιν (judgment) πᾶσαν (all) δέδωκεν (has given) τῷ (to the) Υἱῷ (Son), ²³ ἵνα (so that) πάντες (all) τιμῶσι (may honor) τὸν (the) Υἱὸν (Son), καθὼς (even as) τιμῶσι (they honor) τὸν (the) Πατέρα (Father). ὁ (He who) μὴ (not) τιμῶν (is honoring) τὸν (the) Υἱὸν (Son), οὐ (not) τιμᾷ (is honoring) τὸν (the) Πατέρα (Father), τὸν (the One) πέμψαντα (having sent) αὐτόν (Him). ²⁴ Ἀμὴν (Truly), ἀμὴν (truly) λέγω (I say) ὑμῖν (to you) ὅτι (that) ὁ (the one) τὸν (the) λόγον (word) μου (of Me) ἀκούων (hearing), καὶ (and) πιστεύων (believing) τῷ (the One) πέμψαντί (having sent) με (Me), ἔχει (he has) ζωὴν (life) αἰώνιον (eternal) καὶ (and) εἰς (into) κρίσιν (judgment) οὐκ (not) ἔρχεται (comes), ἀλλὰ (but) μεταβέβηκεν (has passed) ἐκ (out of) τοῦ (-) θανάτου (death) εἰς (into) τὴν (-) ζωήν (life). ²⁵ Ἀμὴν (Truly), ἀμὴν (truly), λέγω (I say) ὑμῖν (to you) ὅτι (that) ἔρχεται (is coming) ὥρα (an hour), καὶ (and) νῦν (now) ἐστιν (is), ὅτε (when) οἱ (the) νεκροὶ (dead) ἀκούσουσιν (will hear) τῆς (the) φωνῆς (voice) τοῦ (of the) Υἱοῦ (Son) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God), καὶ (and) οἱ (those) ἀκούσαντες (having heard) ζήσουσιν (will live).

³⁷ καὶ (And) ὁ (the One) πέμψας (having sent) με (Me), Πατὴρ (the Father) ἐκεῖνος (Himself), μεμαρτύρηκεν (has borne witness) περὶ (concerning) ἐμοῦ (Me). οὔτε (Neither) φωνὴν (voice) αὐτοῦ (of Him) πώποτε (at any time) ἀκηκόατε (have You heard), οὔτε (nor) εἶδος (form) αὐτοῦ (of Him) ἑωράκατε (have you seen).

⁶⁹ καὶ (and) ἡμεῖς (we) πεπιστεύκαμεν (have believed) καὶ (and) ἐγνώκαμεν (have known) ὅτι (that) σὺ (You) εἶ (are) ὁ (the) Ἅγιος (Holy One) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God).”

³⁵ Ἤκουσεν (Heard) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus) ὅτι (that) ἐξέβαλον (they had cast) αὐτὸν (him) ἔξω (out), καὶ (and) εὑρὼν (having found) αὐτὸν (him), εἶπεν (He said), “Σὺ (You) πιστεύεις (believe) εἰς (in) τὸν (the) Υἱὸν (Son) τοῦ (of) ἀνθρώπου (Man)?”

⁷ Ἀπεκρίθησαν (Answered) αὐτῷ (him) οἱ (the) Ἰουδαῖοι (Jews), “Ἡμεῖς (We) νόμον (a law) ἔχομεν (have), καὶ (and) κατὰ (according to) τὸν (the) νόμον (law), ὀφείλει (He ought) ἀποθανεῖν (to die), ὅτι (because) Υἱὸν (the Son) Θεοῦ (of God) ἑαυτὸν (Himself) ἐποίησεν (He made).”

³¹ ταῦτα (these) δὲ (however) γέγραπται (have been written) ἵνα (that) πιστεύητε (you may believe) ὅτι (that) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus) ἐστιν (is) ὁ (the) Χριστὸς (Christ), ὁ (the) Υἱὸς (Son) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God), καὶ (and) ἵνα (that) πιστεύοντες (believing), ζωὴν (life) ἔχητε (you may have) ἐν (in) τῷ (the) ὀνόματι (name) αὐτοῦ (of Him).

⁹ Καὶ (And) ταῦτα (these things) εἰπὼν (having said), βλεπόντων (beholding) αὐτῶν (they), ἐπήρθη (He was taken up), καὶ (and) νεφέλη (a cloud) ὑπέλαβεν (hid) αὐτὸν (Him) ἀπὸ (from) τῶν (the) ὀφθαλμῶν (eyes) αὐτῶν (of them).

²² Μωϋσῆς (Moses) μὲν (indeed) εἶπεν (said) ὅτι (-), ‘Προφήτην (A prophet) ὑμῖν (to you) ἀναστήσει (will raise up) Κύριος (the Lord) ὁ (the) Θεὸς (God) [ὑμῶν] (of you) ἐκ (out from) τῶν (the) ἀδελφῶν (brothers) ὑμῶν (of you), ὡς (like) ἐμέ (me); αὐτοῦ (Him) ἀκούσεσθε (You will listen to) κατὰ (in) πάντα (all things), ὅσα (as many as) ἂν (-) λαλήσῃ (He might say) πρὸς (to) ὑμᾶς (you). ²³ ἔσται (It will be that) δὲ (now) πᾶσα (every) ψυχὴ (soul) ἥτις (who), ἐὰν (if) μὴ (not) ἀκούσῃ (might heed) τοῦ (the) προφήτου (prophet) ἐκείνου (that), ἐξολεθρευθήσεται (will be utterly destroyed) ἐκ (out from) τοῦ (the) λαοῦ (people).’

³⁷ Οὗτός (This) ἐστιν (is) ὁ (the) Μωϋσῆς (Moses) ὁ (-) εἴπας (having said) τοῖς (to the) υἱοῖς (sons) Ἰσραήλ (of Israel), ‘Προφήτην (A prophet) ὑμῖν (for you) ἀναστήσει (will raise up) ὁ (-) Θεὸς (God) ἐκ (out from) τῶν (the) ἀδελφῶν (brothers) ὑμῶν (of you), ὡς (like) ἐμέ (me).’

³⁶ Ὡς (As) δὲ (then) ἐπορεύοντο (they were going) κατὰ (along) τὴν (the) ὁδόν (road), ἦλθον (they came) ἐπί (upon) τι (some) ὕδωρ (water), καί (and) φησιν (says) ὁ (the) εὐνοῦχος (eunuch), “Ἰδοὺ (Behold) ὕδωρ (water); τί (what) κωλύει (prevents) με (me) βαπτισθῆναι (to be baptized)?”

⁴ τοῦ (-) ὁρισθέντος (having been declared) Υἱοῦ (Son) Θεοῦ (of God) ἐν (in) δυνάμει (power) κατὰ (according to the) πνεῦμα (Spirit) ἁγιωσύνης (of holiness) ἐξ (by) ἀναστάσεως (resurrection) νεκρῶν (from the dead), Ἰησοῦ (Jesus) Χριστοῦ (Christ), τοῦ (the) Κυρίου (Lord) ἡμῶν (of us);

¹ Διὰ (Because of) τοῦτο (this), δεῖ (it behooves) περισσοτέρως (more abundantly) προσέχειν (to give heed) ἡμᾶς (us) τοῖς (to the things) ἀκουσθεῖσιν (we have heard), μή‿ (lest) ποτε (ever) παραρυῶμεν (we should drift away).

²⁵ Βλέπετε (Take heed) μὴ (lest) παραιτήσησθε (you refuse) τὸν (the One) λαλοῦντα (speaking). εἰ (If) γὰρ (for) ἐκεῖνοι (they) οὐκ (not) ἐξέφυγον (escaped), ἐπὶ (on) γῆς (earth) παραιτησάμενοι (having refused) τὸν (the One) χρηματίζοντα (divinely instructing them), πολὺ (much) μᾶλλον (less) ἡμεῖς (we) οἱ (-) τὸν (the One) ἀπ’ (from) οὐρανῶν (the heavens) ἀποστρεφόμενοι (turning away from), ²⁶ οὗ (whose) ἡ (-) φωνὴ (voice) τὴν (the) γῆν (earth) ἐσάλευσεν (shook) τότε (at that time); νῦν (now) δὲ (however) ἐπήγγελται (He has promised), λέγων (saying), “Ἔτι (Yet) ἅπαξ (once more) ἐγὼ (I) σείσω (will shake) οὐ (not) μόνον (only) τὴν (the) γῆν (earth), ἀλλὰ (but) καὶ (also) τὸν (-) οὐρανόν (heaven).”

¹⁷ λαβὼν (Having received) γὰρ (for) παρὰ (from) Θεοῦ (God) Πατρὸς (the Father) τιμὴν (honor) καὶ (and) δόξαν (glory), φωνῆς (a voice) ἐνεχθείσης (was brought) αὐτῷ (to Him), τοιᾶσδε (such as follows) ὑπὸ (by) τῆς (the) μεγαλοπρεποῦς (Majestic) δόξης (Glory): “Ὁ (The) Υἱός (Son) μου (of Me), ὁ (-) ἀγαπητός (beloved) μου (of Me), οὗτός (this) ἐστιν (is), εἰς (in) ὃν (whom) ἐγὼ (I) εὐδόκησα (have found delight).”

⁹ Ἐν (In) τούτῳ (this) ἐφανερώθη (has been revealed) ἡ (the) ἀγάπη (love) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God) ἐν (among) ἡμῖν (us), ὅτι (that) τὸν (the) Υἱὸν (Son) αὐτοῦ (of Him), τὸν (the) μονογενῆ (one and only), ἀπέσταλκεν (has sent) ὁ (-) Θεὸς (God) εἰς (into) τὸν (the) κόσμον (world), ἵνα (so that) ζήσωμεν (we might live) δι’ (through) αὐτοῦ (Him). ¹⁰ ἐν (In) τούτῳ (this) ἐστὶν (is) ἡ (-) ἀγάπη (love), οὐχ (not) ὅτι (that) ἡμεῖς (we) ἠγαπήκαμεν (loved) τὸν (-) Θεόν (God), ἀλλ’ (but) ὅτι (that) αὐτὸς (He) ἠγάπησεν (loved) ἡμᾶς (us) καὶ (and) ἀπέστειλεν (sent) τὸν (the) Υἱὸν (Son) αὐτοῦ (of Him) ἱλασμὸν (as a propitiation) περὶ (for) τῶν (the) ἁμαρτιῶν (sins) ἡμῶν (of us).

¹¹ Καὶ (And) αὕτη (this) ἐστὶν (is) ἡ (the) μαρτυρία (testimony), ὅτι (that) ζωὴν (life) αἰώνιον (eternal) ἔδωκεν (has given) «ὁ (-) Θεὸς» (God) ἡμῖν (to us), καὶ (and) αὕτη (this) ἡ (the) ζωὴ (life) ἐν (in) τῷ (the) Υἱῷ (Son) αὐτοῦ (His) ἐστιν (is). ¹² ὁ (The one) ἔχων (having) τὸν (the) Υἱὸν (Son) ἔχει (has) τὴν (-) ζωήν (life); ὁ (the one) μὴ (not) ἔχων (having) τὸν (the) Υἱὸν (Son) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God), τὴν (-) ζωὴν (life) οὐκ (not) ἔχει (has).

²⁰ οἴδαμεν (We know) δὲ (now) ὅτι (that) ὁ (the) Υἱὸς (Son) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God) ἥκει (is come), καὶ (and) δέδωκεν (has given) ἡμῖν (us) διάνοιαν (understanding), ἵνα (so that) γινώσκωμεν* (we may know) τὸν (Him who is) ἀληθινόν (true); καὶ (and) ἐσμὲν (we are) ἐν (in) τῷ (Him who is) ἀληθινῷ (true), ἐν (in) τῷ (the) Υἱῷ (Son) αὐτοῦ (of Him), Ἰησοῦ (Jesus) Χριστῷ (Christ). οὗτός (He) ἐστιν (is) ὁ (the) ἀληθινὸς (true) Θεὸς (God) καὶ (and) ζωὴ (life) αἰώνιος (eternal).

⁷ Ἰδοὺ (Behold), ἔρχεται (He is coming) μετὰ (with) τῶν (the) νεφελῶν (clouds), καὶ (and) ὄψεται (will see) αὐτὸν (Him) πᾶς (every) ὀφθαλμὸς (eye), καὶ (and) οἵτινες (those who) αὐτὸν (Him) ἐξεκέντησαν (pierced), καὶ (and) κόψονται (will wail) ἐπ’ (because of) αὐτὸν (Him) πᾶσαι (all) αἱ (the) φυλαὶ (tribes) τῆς (of the) γῆς (earth). ναί (Yes)! ἀμήν (Amen)!
