⁴² Λέγει (Says) αὐτοῖς (to them) ὁ (-) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus), “Οὐδέποτε (Never) ἀνέγνωτε (did you read) ἐν (in) ταῖς (the) γραφαῖς (Scriptures): ‘Λίθον (The stone) ὃν (which) ἀπεδοκίμασαν (rejected) οἱ (those) οἰκοδομοῦντες (building), Οὗτος (this) ἐγενήθη (has become) εἰς (the) κεφαλὴν (chief) γωνίας (corner). Παρὰ (From) Κυρίου (the Lord) ἐγένετο (was) αὕτη (this), Καὶ (and) ἔστιν (it is) θαυμαστὴ (marvelous) ἐν (in) ὀφθαλμοῖς (the eyes) ἡμῶν (of us)?’?

¹⁰ οὐδὲ (Not even) τὴν (the) γραφὴν (Scripture) ταύτην (this) ἀνέγνωτε (have you read): ‘Λίθον (The stone) ὃν (which) ἀπεδοκίμασαν (rejected) οἱ (those) οἰκοδομοῦντες (building), Οὗτος (this) ἐγενήθη (has become) εἰς (the) κεφαλὴν (chief) γωνίας (corner); ¹¹ Παρὰ (from the) Κυρίου (Lord) ἐγένετο (was) αὕτη (this), Καὶ (and) ἔστιν (it is) θαυμαστὴ (marvelous) ἐν (in) ὀφθαλμοῖς (the eyes) ἡμῶν (of us).’?”

¹⁷ Ὁ (-) δὲ (But) ἐμβλέψας (having looked at) αὐτοῖς (them), εἶπεν (He said), “Τί (What) οὖν (then) ἐστιν (is) τὸ (that) γεγραμμένον (has been written) τοῦτο (this): ‘Λίθον (The stone) ὃν (which) ἀπεδοκίμασαν (rejected) οἱ (those) οἰκοδομοῦντες (building), Οὗτος (this) ἐγενήθη (has become) εἰς (into) κεφαλὴν (the head) γωνίας (of the corner)’? ¹⁸ Πᾶς (Everyone) ὁ (-) πεσὼν (falling) ἐπ’ (on) ἐκεῖνον (that) τὸν (-) λίθον (stone) συνθλασθήσεται (will be broken); ἐφ’ (on) ὃν (whomever) δ’ (but) ἂν (-) πέσῃ (it might fall), λικμήσει (it will grind into powder) αὐτόν (him).”

¹¹ οὗτός (This) ἐστιν (is) ‘Ὁ (the) λίθος (stone) ὁ (-) ἐξουθενηθεὶς (having been rejected) ὑφ’ (by) ὑμῶν (you), τῶν (the) οἰκοδόμων (builders), ὁ (which) γενόμενος (has become) εἰς (into) κεφαλὴν (head) γωνίας (of the corner).’

⁴⁰ βλέπετε (Take heed) οὖν (therefore), μὴ (lest) ἐπέλθῃ (might come about) τὸ (that) εἰρημένον (having been said) ἐν (in) τοῖς (the) προφήταις (prophets): ⁴¹ ‘Ἴδετε (Behold), οἱ (-) καταφρονηταί (scoffers), καὶ (and) θαυμάσατε (wonder) καὶ (and) ἀφανίσθητε (perish); ὅτι (for) ἔργον (a work) ἐργάζομαι (am working) ἐγὼ (I) ἐν (in) ταῖς (the) ἡμέραις (days) ὑμῶν (of you), ἔργον (a work) ὃ (that) οὐ (never) μὴ (not) πιστεύσητε (you would believe), ἐάν (even if) τις (one) ἐκδιηγῆται (should declare it) ὑμῖν (to you).’”

³³ καθὼς (as) γέγραπται (it has been written): “Ἰδοὺ (Behold) τίθημι (I lay) ἐν (in) Σιὼν (Zion) λίθον (a stone) προσκόμματος (of stumbling), καὶ (and) πέτραν (a rock) σκανδάλου (of offense); καὶ (and) ὁ (the one) πιστεύων (believing) ἐπ’ (on) αὐτῷ (Him), οὐ (never) καταισχυνθήσεται (will be put to shame).”

²⁰ ἐποικοδομηθέντες (having been built) ἐπὶ (upon) τῷ (the) θεμελίῳ (foundation) τῶν (of the) ἀποστόλων (apostles) καὶ (and) προφητῶν (prophets), ὄντος (being) ἀκρογωνιαίου (the cornerstone) αὐτοῦ (Himself) Χριστοῦ (Christ) Ἰησοῦ (Jesus),

⁴ Πρὸς (To) ὃν (whom) προσερχόμενοι (coming), λίθον (a stone) ζῶντα (living), ὑπὸ (by) ἀνθρώπων (men) μὲν (indeed) ἀποδεδοκιμασμένον (rejected), παρὰ (in the sight of) δὲ (however) Θεῷ (God) ἐκλεκτὸν (chosen) ἔντιμον (and precious), ⁵ καὶ (also) αὐτοὶ (you yourselves) ὡς (as) λίθοι (stones) ζῶντες (living), οἰκοδομεῖσθε (are being built up) οἶκος (as a house) πνευματικὸς (spiritual) εἰς (into) ἱεράτευμα (a priesthood) ἅγιον (holy), ἀνενέγκαι (to offer) πνευματικὰς (spiritual) θυσίας (sacrifices) εὐπροσδέκτους (acceptable) [τῷ] (-) Θεῷ (to God) διὰ (through) Ἰησοῦ (Jesus) Χριστοῦ (Christ). ⁶ διότι (Therefore) περιέχει (it is contained) ἐν (in) γραφῇ (Scripture): “Ἰδοὺ (Behold), τίθημι (I lay) ἐν (in) Σιὼν (Zion) λίθον (a stone), ἐκλεκτὸν (a chosen) ἀκρογωνιαῖον (cornerstone), ἔντιμον (precious); καὶ (and) ὁ (the one) πιστεύων (believing) ἐπ’ (on) αὐτῷ (Him), οὐ (no) μὴ (not) καταισχυνθῇ (shall be put to shame).” ⁷ Ὑμῖν (To you) οὖν (therefore is) ἡ (the) τιμὴ (preciousness), τοῖς (-) πιστεύουσιν (believing); ἀπιστοῦσιν (to those disobeying), δὲ (however), “Λίθος (The stone) ὃν (which) ἀπεδοκίμασαν (have rejected) οἱ (those) οἰκοδομοῦντες (building), οὗτος (this) ἐγενήθη (has become) εἰς (into) κεφαλὴν (the head) γωνίας (of the corner),” ⁸ Καὶ (and), “Λίθος (A stone) προσκόμματος (of stumbling) καὶ (and) πέτρα (a rock) σκανδάλου (of offense).” Οἳ (They) προσκόπτουσιν (stumble at), τῷ (to the) λόγῳ (word) ἀπειθοῦντες (being disobedient), εἰς (to) ὃ (which) καὶ (also) ἐτέθησαν (they were appointed).
