¹⁶ Ἀποκριθεὶς (Answering) δὲ (now), Σίμων (Simon) Πέτρος (Peter) εἶπεν (said), “Σὺ (You) εἶ (are) ὁ (the) Χριστὸς (Christ), ὁ (the) Υἱὸς (Son) τοῦ (of) Θεοῦ (God) τοῦ (the) ζῶντος (living).” ¹⁷ Ἀποκριθεὶς (Answering) δὲ (now), ὁ (-) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus) εἶπεν (said) αὐτῷ (to him), “Μακάριος (Blessed) εἶ (are you), Σίμων (Simon) Βαριωνᾶ (Barjona)! ὅτι (For) σὰρξ (flesh) καὶ (and) αἷμα (blood) οὐκ (not) ἀπεκάλυψέν (revealed it) σοι (to you), ἀλλ’ (but) ὁ (the) Πατήρ (Father) μου (of Me), ὁ (who is) ἐν (in) τοῖς (the) οὐρανοῖς (heavens).

⁴³ καὶ (And) πόθεν (from where) μοι (to me) τοῦτο (this), ἵνα (that) ἔλθῃ (should come) ἡ (the) μήτηρ (mother) τοῦ (of the) Κυρίου (Lord) μου (of me) πρὸς (to) ἐμέ (me)?

²¹ Ἐν (In) αὐτῇ (the same) τῇ (-) ὥρᾳ (hour), ἠγαλλιάσατο (He rejoiced) [ἐν] (in) τῷ (the) Πνεύματι (Spirit) τῷ (-) Ἁγίῳ (Holy) καὶ (and) εἶπεν (said), “Ἐξομολογοῦμαί (I fully consent) σοι (to You), Πάτερ (Father), Κύριε (Lord) τοῦ (of the) οὐρανοῦ (heaven) καὶ (and) τῆς (of the) γῆς (earth), ὅτι (that) ἀπέκρυψας (You have hidden) ταῦτα (these things) ἀπὸ (from) σοφῶν (wise) καὶ (and) συνετῶν (intelligent), καὶ (and) ἀπεκάλυψας (have revealed) αὐτὰ (them) νηπίοις (to little children); ναί (yes), ὁ (-) Πατήρ (Father), ὅτι (for) οὕτως (thus) εὐδοκία (well-pleasing) ἐγένετο (was it) ἔμπροσθέν (before) σου (You). ²² Πάντα (All things) μοι (to Me) παρεδόθη (have been delivered) ὑπὸ (by) τοῦ (the) Πατρός (Father) μου (of Me). καὶ (And) οὐδεὶς (no one) γινώσκει (knows) τίς (who) ἐστιν (is) ὁ (the) Υἱὸς (Son), εἰ (if) μὴ (not) ὁ (the) Πατήρ (Father); καὶ (and) τίς (who) ἐστιν (is) ὁ (the) Πατὴρ (Father), εἰ (if) μὴ (not) ὁ (the) Υἱὸς (Son), καὶ (and) ᾧ (to whom) ἐὰν (if) βούληται (might resolve) ὁ (the) Υἱὸς (Son) ἀποκαλύψαι (to reveal Him).”

²⁰ εἰ (If) δὲ (however) ἐν (by) δακτύλῳ (the finger) Θεοῦ (of God) ἐγὼ (I) ἐκβάλλω (cast out) τὰ (the) δαιμόνια (demons), ἄρα (then) ἔφθασεν (has come) ἐφ’ (upon) ὑμᾶς (you) ἡ (the) βασιλεία (kingdom) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God).

⁴² αὐτὸς (Himself) γὰρ (for) Δαυὶδ (David) λέγει (says) ἐν (in) βίβλῳ (the book) ψαλμῶν (of Psalms): ‘Εἶπεν (Said) Κύριος (the Lord) τῷ (to the) Κυρίῳ (Lord) μου (of me), “Κάθου (Sit) ἐκ (at) δεξιῶν (the right hand) μου (of Me), ⁴³ Ἕως (until) ἂν (-) θῶ (I place) τοὺς (the) ἐχθρούς (enemies) σου (of You), Ὑποπόδιον (as a footstool) τῶν (of the) ποδῶν (feet) σου (of You).”’ ⁴⁴ Δαυὶδ (David) οὖν (therefore) αὐτὸν (Him) Κύριον (Lord) καλεῖ (calls), καὶ (and) πῶς (how) αὐτοῦ (of him) υἱός (son) ἐστιν (is He)?”

⁷ εἰ (If) ἐγνώκειτέ (you had known) με (Me), καὶ (also) τὸν (the) Πατέρα (Father) μου (of Me) ‹ἂν (-) ᾔδειτε› (you would have known); ἀπ’ (from) ἄρτι (now) γινώσκετε (you know) αὐτὸν (Him) καὶ (and) ἑωράκατε (have seen) ‹αὐτόν› (Him).”

²⁰ ἐν (In) ἐκείνῃ (that) τῇ (-) ἡμέρᾳ (day) γνώσεσθε (will know) ὑμεῖς (you) ὅτι (that) ἐγὼ (I am) ἐν (in) τῷ (the) Πατρί (Father) μου (of Me), καὶ (and) ὑμεῖς (you) ἐν (in) ἐμοὶ (Me), κἀγὼ (and I) ἐν (in) ὑμῖν (you).

³ καὶ (And) ταῦτα (these things) ποιήσουσιν (they will do), ὅτι (because) οὐκ (not) ἔγνωσαν (they know) τὸν (the) Πατέρα (Father), οὐδὲ (nor) ἐμέ (Me).

³ αὕτη (This) δέ (now) ἐστιν (is) ἡ (-) αἰώνιος (eternal) ζωὴ (life), ἵνα (that) γινώσκωσιν (they may know) σὲ (You), τὸν (the) μόνον (only) ἀληθινὸν (true) Θεὸν (God), καὶ (and) ὃν (whom) ἀπέστειλας (You have sent), Ἰησοῦν (Jesus) Χριστόν (Christ).

⁸ ὅτι (for) τὰ (the) ῥήματα (words) ἃ (that) ἔδωκάς (You have given) μοι (Me), δέδωκα (I have given) αὐτοῖς (them), καὶ (and) αὐτοὶ (they) ἔλαβον (received them) καὶ (and) ἔγνωσαν (knew) ἀληθῶς (truly) ὅτι (that) παρὰ (from) σοῦ (You) ἐξῆλθον (I came forth); καὶ (and) ἐπίστευσαν (they believed) ὅτι (that) σύ (You) με (Me) ἀπέστειλας (sent).

¹³ Καὶ (And) λέγουσιν (say) αὐτῇ (to her) ἐκεῖνοι (they), “Γύναι (Woman), τί (why) κλαίεις (weep you)?” Λέγει (She says) αὐτοῖς (to them), “Ὅτι (Because) Ἦραν (they have taken away) τὸν (the) Κύριόν (Lord) μου (of me), καὶ (and) οὐκ (not) οἶδα (I know) ποῦ (where) ἔθηκαν (they have laid) αὐτόν (Him).”

²⁸ Ἀπεκρίθη (Answered) Θωμᾶς (Thomas) καὶ (and) εἶπεν (said) αὐτῷ (to Him), “Ὁ (The) Κύριός (Lord) μου (of Me) καὶ (and) ὁ (the) Θεός (God) μου (of me)!”

²⁴ ἀλλ’ (But) οὐδενὸς (not any) λόγου (account) ποιοῦμαι (I make) τὴν (my) ψυχὴν (life) τιμίαν (dear) ἐμαυτῷ (to myself), ὡς (so as) τελειῶσαι* (to finish) τὸν (the) δρόμον (course) μου (of me), καὶ (and) τὴν (the) διακονίαν (ministry) ἣν (that) ἔλαβον (I received) παρὰ (from) τοῦ (the) Κυρίου (Lord) Ἰησοῦ (Jesus), διαμαρτύρασθαι (to testify fully) τὸ (the) εὐαγγέλιον (gospel) τῆς (of the) χάριτος (grace) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God).

¹⁸ Λογίζομαι (I reckon) γὰρ (for) ὅτι (that) οὐκ (not) ἄξια (comparable) τὰ (the) παθήματα (sufferings) τοῦ (of the) νῦν (present) καιροῦ (time are) πρὸς (to) τὴν (the) μέλλουσαν (coming) δόξαν (glory) ἀποκαλυφθῆναι (to be revealed) εἰς (to) ἡμᾶς (us).

² οὐ (Nothing) γὰρ (for) ἔκρινά (I decided) τι (anything) εἰδέναι (to know) ἐν (among) ὑμῖν (you), εἰ (if) μὴ (not) Ἰησοῦν (Jesus) Χριστὸν (Christ), καὶ (and) τοῦτον (Him) ἐσταυρωμένον (having been crucified).

¹⁰ ἢ (Or) δι’ (because of) ἡμᾶς (us) πάντως (entirely) λέγει (is He speaking)? δι’ (For sake of) ἡμᾶς (us) γὰρ (for) ἐγράφη (it was written), ὅτι (because) ὀφείλει (ought) ἐπ’ (in) ἐλπίδι (hope) ὁ (the one) ἀροτριῶν (plowing) ἀροτριᾶν (to plow), καὶ (and) ὁ (the one) ἀλοῶν (threshing), ἐπ’ (in) ἐλπίδι (hope) τοῦ (-) μετέχειν (to partake).

¹³ μέχρι (until) καταντήσωμεν (we may attain) οἱ (-) πάντες (all) εἰς (to) τὴν (the) ἑνότητα (unity) τῆς (of the) πίστεως (faith) καὶ (and) τῆς (of the) ἐπιγνώσεως (knowledge) τοῦ (of the) Υἱοῦ (Son) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God), εἰς (unto) ἄνδρα (a man) τέλειον (a complete), εἰς (to) μέτρον (the measure) ἡλικίας (of the stature) τοῦ (of the) πληρώματος (fullness) τοῦ (-) Χριστοῦ (of Christ),

⁷ Ἀλλὰ (But) ἅτινα (whatever things) ἦν (were) μοι (to me) κέρδη (gain), ταῦτα (these) ἥγημαι (I have esteemed), διὰ (because of) τὸν (-) Χριστὸν (Christ), ζημίαν (loss).

¹⁰ τοῦ (-) γνῶναι (to know) αὐτὸν (Him) καὶ (and) τὴν (the) δύναμιν (power) τῆς (of the) ἀναστάσεως (resurrection) αὐτοῦ (of Him), καὶ (and) [τὴν] (the) κοινωνίαν (fellowship) [τῶν] (of) παθημάτων (sufferings) αὐτοῦ (of Him), συμμορφιζόμενος (being conformed) τῷ (to the) θανάτῳ (death) αὐτοῦ (of Him),

² ἵνα (that) παρακληθῶσιν (may be encouraged) αἱ (the) καρδίαι (hearts) αὐτῶν (of them), συμβιβασθέντες (having been knit together) ἐν (in) ἀγάπῃ (love), καὶ (and) εἰς (to) πᾶν (all) πλοῦτος (the riches) τῆς (of the) πληροφορίας (full assurance) τῆς (-) συνέσεως (of understanding), εἰς (to) ἐπίγνωσιν (the knowledge) τοῦ (of the) μυστηρίου (mystery) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God), Χριστοῦ (which is Christ), ³ ἐν (in) ᾧ (whom) εἰσιν (are) πάντες (all) οἱ (the) θησαυροὶ (treasures) τῆς (-) σοφίας (of wisdom) καὶ (and) γνώσεως (of knowledge) ἀπόκρυφοι (hidden).

⁶ Ἐγὼ (I) γὰρ (for) ἤδη (already) σπένδομαι (am being poured out), καὶ (and) ὁ (the) καιρὸς (time) τῆς (of the) ἀναλύσεώς (departure) μου (of me) ἐφέστηκεν (is come).

¹⁴ Μέτοχοι (Partakers) γὰρ (for) τοῦ (-) Χριστοῦ (of Christ) γεγόναμεν (we have become), ἐάνπερ (if indeed) τὴν (from the) ἀρχὴν (beginning) τῆς (the) ὑποστάσεως (assurance) μέχρι (unto) τέλους (the end) βεβαίαν (firm) κατάσχωμεν (we should hold).

⁷ Ὑμῖν (To you) οὖν (therefore is) ἡ (the) τιμὴ (preciousness), τοῖς (-) πιστεύουσιν (believing); ἀπιστοῦσιν (to those disobeying), δὲ (however), “Λίθος (The stone) ὃν (which) ἀπεδοκίμασαν (have rejected) οἱ (those) οἰκοδομοῦντες (building), οὗτος (this) ἐγενήθη (has become) εἰς (into) κεφαλὴν (the head) γωνίας (of the corner),”

³ Ὡς (Accordingly), 〈τὰ〉 (-) πάντα (all things) ἡμῖν (to us) τῆς (the) θείας (divine) δυνάμεως (power) αὐτοῦ (of Him) τὰ (-) πρὸς (toward) ζωὴν (life) καὶ (and) εὐσέβειαν (godliness) δεδωρημένης (has given), διὰ (through) τῆς (the) ἐπιγνώσεως (knowledge) τοῦ (of the One) καλέσαντος (having called) ἡμᾶς (us) ἰδίᾳ (by His own) δόξῃ (glory) καὶ (and) ἀρετῇ (excellence),

¹⁸ αὐξάνετε (Grow) δὲ (however) ἐν (in) χάριτι (grace), καὶ (and) γνώσει (in knowledge) τοῦ (of the) Κυρίου (Lord) ἡμῶν (of us) καὶ (and) Σωτῆρος (Savior) Ἰησοῦ (Jesus) Χριστοῦ (Christ). αὐτῷ (To Him be) ἡ (the) δόξα (glory) καὶ (both) νῦν (now) καὶ (and) εἰς (to) ἡμέραν (the day) αἰῶνος (of eternity). ‹Ἀμήν› (Amen).

³ ὃ (that which) ἑωράκαμεν (we have seen) καὶ (and) ἀκηκόαμεν (have heard), ἀπαγγέλλομεν (we proclaim) καὶ (also) ὑμῖν (to you), ἵνα (so that) καὶ (also) ὑμεῖς (you) κοινωνίαν (fellowship) ἔχητε (may have) μεθ’ (with) ἡμῶν (us). καὶ (Indeed) ἡ (the) κοινωνία (fellowship) δὲ (now) ἡ (-) ἡμετέρα (of us) μετὰ (is with) τοῦ (the) Πατρὸς (Father), καὶ (and) μετὰ (with) τοῦ (the) Υἱοῦ (Son) αὐτοῦ (of Him), Ἰησοῦ (Jesus) Χριστοῦ (Christ).

¹⁹ ἐξ (From among) ἡμῶν (us) ἐξῆλθαν (they went out), ἀλλ’ (but) οὐκ (not) ἦσαν (they were) ἐξ (of) ἡμῶν (us); εἰ (if) γὰρ (for) ἐξ (of) ἡμῶν (us) ἦσαν (they had been), μεμενήκεισαν (they would have remained) ἂν (-) μεθ’ (with) ἡμῶν (us). ἀλλ’ (But) ἵνα (it is so that) φανερωθῶσιν (it might be made manifest) ὅτι (that) οὐκ (not) εἰσὶν (they are) πάντες (all) ἐξ (of) ἡμῶν (us).

²⁰ οἴδαμεν (We know) δὲ (now) ὅτι (that) ὁ (the) Υἱὸς (Son) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God) ἥκει (is come), καὶ (and) δέδωκεν (has given) ἡμῖν (us) διάνοιαν (understanding), ἵνα (so that) γινώσκωμεν* (we may know) τὸν (Him who is) ἀληθινόν (true); καὶ (and) ἐσμὲν (we are) ἐν (in) τῷ (Him who is) ἀληθινῷ (true), ἐν (in) τῷ (the) Υἱῷ (Son) αὐτοῦ (of Him), Ἰησοῦ (Jesus) Χριστῷ (Christ). οὗτός (He) ἐστιν (is) ὁ (the) ἀληθινὸς (true) Θεὸς (God) καὶ (and) ζωὴ (life) αἰώνιος (eternal).
