¹ Καὶ (And) ὁ (the) πέμπτος (fifth) ἄγγελος (angel) ἐσάλπισεν (sounded his trumpet), καὶ (and) εἶδον (I saw) ἀστέρα (a star) ἐκ (out of) τοῦ (-) οὐρανοῦ (heaven) πεπτωκότα (having fallen) εἰς (to) τὴν (the) γῆν (earth), καὶ (and) ἐδόθη (was given) αὐτῷ (to it) ἡ (the) κλεὶς (key) τοῦ (of the) φρέατος (pit) τῆς (of the) ἀβύσσου (abyss). ² καὶ (And) ἤνοιξεν (he opened) τὸ (the) φρέαρ (pit) τῆς (of the) ἀβύσσου (abyss), καὶ (and) ἀνέβη (went up) καπνὸς (smoke) ἐκ (out of) τοῦ (the) φρέατος (pit), ὡς (like) καπνὸς (the smoke) καμίνου (of a furnace) μεγάλης (great), καὶ (and) ἐσκοτώθη (were darkened) ὁ (the) ἥλιος (sun) καὶ (and) ὁ (the) ἀὴρ (air) ἐκ (by) τοῦ (the) καπνοῦ (smoke) τοῦ (of the) φρέατος (pit). ³ Καὶ (And) ἐκ (out of) τοῦ (the) καπνοῦ (smoke) ἐξῆλθον (came forth) ἀκρίδες (locusts) εἰς (unto) τὴν (the) γῆν (earth), καὶ (and) ἐδόθη (was given) αὐταῖς* (to them) ἐξουσία (power), ὡς (like) ἔχουσιν (have) ἐξουσίαν (power) οἱ (the) σκορπίοι (scorpions) τῆς (of the) γῆς (earth). ⁴ καὶ (And) ἐρρέθη (it was said) αὐταῖς* (to them), ἵνα (that) μὴ (not) ἀδικήσουσιν (they shall harm) τὸν (the) χόρτον (grass) τῆς (of the) γῆς (earth), οὐδὲ (nor) πᾶν (any) χλωρὸν (green thing), οὐδὲ (nor) πᾶν (any) δένδρον (tree), εἰ (if) μὴ (not) τοὺς (the) ἀνθρώπους (men) οἵτινες (-) οὐκ (not) ἔχουσι* (having) τὴν (the) σφραγῖδα (seal) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God) ἐπὶ (on) τῶν (the) μετώπων (foreheads). ⁵ καὶ (And) ἐδόθη (it was granted) αὐτοῖς (to them) ἵνα (that) μὴ (not) ἀποκτείνωσιν (they should kill) αὐτούς (them), ἀλλ’ (but) ἵνα (that) βασανισθήσονται (they shall torment them) μῆνας (months) πέντε (five). καὶ (And) ὁ (the) βασανισμὸς (torment) αὐτῶν (of them) ὡς (was like) βασανισμὸς (torment) σκορπίου (of a scorpion), ὅταν (when) παίσῃ (it might strike) ἄνθρωπον (a man). ⁶ καὶ (And) ἐν (in) ταῖς (the) ἡμέραις (days) ἐκείναις (those), ζητήσουσιν (will seek) οἱ (-) ἄνθρωποι (men) τὸν (-) θάνατον (death), καὶ (and) οὐ (not) μὴ (no more) εὑρήσουσιν (will find) αὐτόν (it); καὶ (and) ἐπιθυμήσουσιν (they will long) ἀποθανεῖν (to die), καὶ (and) φεύγει (shall flee) ὁ (-) θάνατος (death) ἀπ’ (from) αὐτῶν (them). ⁷ Καὶ (And) τὰ (the) ὁμοιώματα (appearance) τῶν (of the) ἀκρίδων (locusts was) ὅμοια* (like) ἵπποις (horses) ἡτοιμασμένοις (having been prepared) εἰς (for) πόλεμον (battle), καὶ (and) ἐπὶ (upon) τὰς (the) κεφαλὰς (heads) αὐτῶν (of them) ὡς (were something like) στέφανοι (crowns), ὅμοιοι (like) χρυσῷ (gold); καὶ (and) τὰ (the) πρόσωπα (faces) αὐτῶν (of them) ὡς (like) πρόσωπα (the faces) ἀνθρώπων (of men). ⁸ καὶ (And) εἶχον* (they had) τρίχας (hair) ὡς (like) τρίχας (hair) γυναικῶν (of women), καὶ (and) οἱ (the) ὀδόντες (teeth) αὐτῶν (of them) ὡς (like those) λεόντων (of lions) ἦσαν (were). ⁹ καὶ (And) εἶχον (they had) θώρακας (breastplates) ὡς (like) θώρακας (breastplates) σιδηροῦς (of iron), καὶ (and) ἡ (the) φωνὴ (sound) τῶν (of the) πτερύγων (wings) αὐτῶν (of them) ὡς (was as) φωνὴ (the sound) ἁρμάτων (of chariots) ἵππων (of horses) πολλῶν (many) τρεχόντων (rushing) εἰς (into) πόλεμον (battle). ¹⁰ καὶ (And) ἔχουσιν (they have) οὐρὰς (tails) ὁμοίας (like) σκορπίοις (scorpions) καὶ (and) κέντρα (stingers), καὶ (and) ἐν (in) ταῖς (the) οὐραῖς (tails) αὐτῶν (of them) ἡ (is the) ἐξουσία (power) αὐτῶν (of them) ἀδικῆσαι (to injure) τοὺς (-) ἀνθρώπους (men) μῆνας (for months) πέντε (five). ¹¹ ἔχουσιν (They have) ἐπ’ (over) αὐτῶν (them) βασιλέα (a king), τὸν (the) ἄγγελον (angel) τῆς (of the) ἀβύσσου (abyss). ὄνομα (The name) αὐτῷ (of Him) Ἑβραϊστί (in Hebrew) Ἀβαδδών (is Abaddon), καὶ (and) ἐν (in) τῇ (the) Ἑλληνικῇ (Greek), ὄνομα (the name) ἔχει (he has) Ἀπολλύων (Apollyon). ¹² Ἡ (-) Οὐαὶ (Woe) ἡ (the) μία (first) ἀπῆλθεν (has passed). ἰδοὺ (Behold), ἔρχεται (are coming) ἔτι (still) δύο (two) Οὐαὶ (woes) μετὰ (after) ταῦτα (these things). ¹³ Καὶ (And) ὁ (the) ἕκτος (sixth) ἄγγελος (angel) ἐσάλπισεν (sounded his trumpet), καὶ (and) ἤκουσα (I heard) φωνὴν (voice) μίαν (one) ἐκ (from) τῶν (the) τεσσάρων (four) κεράτων (horns) τοῦ (of the) θυσιαστηρίου (altar) τοῦ (-) χρυσοῦ (golden) τοῦ (-) ἐνώπιον (before) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (God), ¹⁴ λέγοντα (saying) τῷ (to the) ἕκτῳ (sixth) ἀγγέλῳ (angel), ὁ (the one) ἔχων (having) τὴν (the) σάλπιγγα (trumpet), “Λῦσον (Release) τοὺς (the) τέσσαρας (four) ἀγγέλους (angels), τοὺς (those) δεδεμένους (having been bound) ἐπὶ (at) τῷ (the) ποταμῷ (river) τῷ (-) μεγάλῳ (great) Εὐφράτῃ (Euphrates).” ¹⁵ καὶ (And) ἐλύθησαν (were released) οἱ (the) τέσσαρες (four) ἄγγελοι (angels) οἱ (-) ἡτοιμασμένοι (having been prepared) εἰς (for) τὴν (the) ὥραν (hour) καὶ (and) ἡμέραν (day) καὶ (and) μῆνα (month) καὶ (and) ἐνιαυτόν (year), ἵνα (so that) ἀποκτείνωσιν (they might kill) τὸ (a) τρίτον (third) τῶν (-) ἀνθρώπων (of mankind). ¹⁶ καὶ (And) ὁ (the) ἀριθμὸς (number) τῶν (of the) στρατευμάτων (armies) τοῦ (of the) ἱππικοῦ (cavalry was) δισμυριάδες* (twice ten thousand) μυριάδων (ten thousands); ἤκουσα (I heard) τὸν (the) ἀριθμὸν (number) αὐτῶν (of them). ¹⁷ Καὶ (And) οὕτως (thus) εἶδον (I saw) τοὺς (the) ἵππους (horses) ἐν (in) τῇ (the) ὁράσει (vision), καὶ (and) τοὺς (those) καθημένους (sitting) ἐπ’ (on) αὐτῶν (them), ἔχοντας (having) θώρακας (breastplates) πυρίνους (fiery) καὶ (and) ὑακινθίνους (hyacinthine) καὶ (and) θειώδεις (brimstone). καὶ (And) αἱ (the) κεφαλαὶ (heads) τῶν (of the) ἵππων (horses were) ὡς (like) κεφαλαὶ (heads) λεόντων (of lions), καὶ (and) ἐκ (out of) τῶν (the) στομάτων (mouths) αὐτῶν (of them) ἐκπορεύεται (proceed) πῦρ (fire), καὶ (and) καπνὸς (smoke), καὶ (and) θεῖον (brimstone). ¹⁸ ἀπὸ (By) τῶν (-) τριῶν (three) πληγῶν (plagues) τούτων (these) ἀπεκτάνθησαν (was killed) τὸ (a) τρίτον (third) τῶν (of) ἀνθρώπων (mankind), ἐκ (by) τοῦ (the) πυρὸς (fire), καὶ (and) τοῦ (by the) καπνοῦ (smoke), καὶ (and) τοῦ (by the) θείου (brimstone), τοῦ (-) ἐκπορευομένου (proceeding) ἐκ (out of) τῶν (the) στομάτων (mouths) αὐτῶν (of them). ¹⁹ ἡ (The) γὰρ (for) ἐξουσία (powers) τῶν (of the) ἵππων (horses) ἐν (in) τῷ (the) στόματι (mouths) αὐτῶν (of them) ἐστιν (are), καὶ (and) ἐν (in) ταῖς (the) οὐραῖς (tails) αὐτῶν (of them); αἱ (the) γὰρ (for) οὐραὶ (tails) αὐτῶν (of them) ὅμοιαι (are like) ὄφεσιν (serpents), ἔχουσαι (having) κεφαλάς (heads), καὶ (and) ἐν (with) αὐταῖς (them) ἀδικοῦσιν (they injure). ²⁰ ‹Καὶ (And) οἱ (the) λοιποὶ (rest) τῶν (of the) ἀνθρώπων (men) οἳ (who) οὐκ (not) ἀπεκτάνθησαν (were killed) ἐν (by) ταῖς (the) πληγαῖς (plagues) ταύταις (these) οὐδὲ (not even) μετενόησαν (repented) ἐκ (of) τῶν (the) ἔργων (works) τῶν (of the) χειρῶν (hands) αὐτῶν (of them), ἵνα (so that) μὴ (not) προσκυνήσουσιν (they will worship) τὰ (the) δαιμόνια (demons), καὶ (and) τὰ (the) εἴδωλα (idols) τὰ (-) χρυσᾶ (golden) καὶ (and) τὰ (-) ἀργυρᾶ (silver) καὶ (and) τὰ (-) χαλκᾶ (bronze) καὶ (and) τὰ (-) λίθινα (stone) καὶ (and) τὰ (-) ξύλινα (wooden), ἃ (which) οὔτε (neither) βλέπειν (to see) δύνανται (are able), οὔτε (nor) ἀκούειν (to hear), οὔτε (nor) περιπατεῖν› (to walk). ²¹ καὶ (And) οὐ (not) μετενόησαν (they repented) ἐκ (of) τῶν (the) φόνων (murders) αὐτῶν (of them), οὔτε (nor) ἐκ (of) τῶν (the) φαρμάκων (sorceries) αὐτῶν (of them), οὔτε (nor) ἐκ (of) τῆς (the) πορνείας (sexual immorality) αὐτῶν (of them), οὔτε (nor) ἐκ (of) τῶν (the) κλεμμάτων (thefts) αὐτῶν (of them).

³¹ καὶ (And) παρεκάλουν (they were begging) αὐτὸν (Him), ἵνα (that) μὴ (not) ἐπιτάξῃ (he would command) αὐτοῖς (them) εἰς (into) τὴν (the) ἄβυσσον (abyss) ἀπελθεῖν (to go away).

¹⁸ Εἶπεν (He said) δὲ (then) αὐτοῖς (to them), “Ἐθεώρουν (I beheld) τὸν (-) Σατανᾶν (Satan) ὡς (as) ἀστραπὴν (lightning) ἐκ (out of) τοῦ (the) οὐρανοῦ (heaven) πεσόντα (having fallen).

⁷ ἤ (or), ‘Τίς (Who) καταβήσεται (will descend) εἰς (into) τὴν (the) ἄβυσσον (abyss)?’ τοῦτ’ (that) ἔστιν (is), Χριστὸν (Christ) ἐκ (out from) νεκρῶν (the dead) ἀναγαγεῖν (to bring up).”

³ μή (No) τις (one) ὑμᾶς (you) ἐξαπατήσῃ (should deceive) κατὰ (in) μηδένα (not one) τρόπον (way), ὅτι (because it is) ἐὰν (if) μὴ (not until) ἔλθῃ (shall have come) ἡ (the) ἀποστασία (apostasy) πρῶτον (first), καὶ (and) ἀποκαλυφθῇ (shall have been revealed) ὁ (the) ἄνθρωπος (man) τῆς (-) ἀνομίας (of lawlessness), ὁ (the) υἱὸς (son) τῆς (-) ἀπωλείας (of destruction), ⁴ ὁ (the one) ἀντικείμενος (opposing) καὶ (and) ὑπεραιρόμενος (exalting himself) ἐπὶ (above) πάντα (every) λεγόμενον (so-called) Θεὸν (god) ἢ (or) σέβασμα (object of worship), ὥστε (so as for) αὐτὸν (him) εἰς (in) τὸν (the) ναὸν (temple) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God) καθίσαι (to sit down), ἀποδεικνύντα (setting forth) ἑαυτὸν (he himself) ὅτι (that) ἔστιν (is) Θεός (God). ⁵ Οὐ (Not) μνημονεύετε (do you remember) ὅτι (that), ἔτι (yet) ὢν (being) πρὸς (with) ὑμᾶς (you), ταῦτα (these things) ἔλεγον (I was saying) ὑμῖν (to you)? ⁶ καὶ (And) νῦν (now) τὸ (that which) κατέχον (is restraining), οἴδατε (you know), εἰς (for) τὸ (-) ἀποκαλυφθῆναι (to be revealed) αὐτὸν (him) ἐν (in) τῷ (-) ἑαυτοῦ* (his) καιρῷ (time). ⁷ τὸ (The) γὰρ (for) μυστήριον (mystery) ἤδη (already) ἐνεργεῖται (is working) τῆς (-) ἀνομίας (of lawlessness); μόνον (only there is) ὁ (the one) κατέχων (restraining it) ἄρτι (at present) ἕως (until) ἐκ (out of) μέσου (the midst) γένηται (he might be gone). ⁸ καὶ (And) τότε (then) ἀποκαλυφθήσεται (will be revealed) ὁ (the) ἄνομος (lawless one), ὃν (whom) ὁ (the) Κύριος (Lord) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus) ἀνελεῖ (will slay) τῷ (with the) πνεύματι (breath) τοῦ (of the) στόματος (mouth) αὐτοῦ (of Him) καὶ (and) καταργήσει (will annul) τῇ (by the) ἐπιφανείᾳ (appearing) τῆς (of the) παρουσίας (coming) αὐτοῦ (of Him),

¹ Τοῦτο (This) δὲ (however) γίνωσκε (realize), ὅτι (that) ἐν (in) ἐσχάταις (the last) ἡμέραις (days) ἐνστήσονται (will be present) καιροὶ (times) χαλεποί (difficult). ² ἔσονται (Will be) γὰρ (for) οἱ (-) ἄνθρωποι (men) φίλαυτοι (lovers of self), φιλάργυροι (lovers of money), ἀλαζόνες (boastful), ὑπερήφανοι (proud), βλάσφημοι (abusive), γονεῦσιν (to parents) ἀπειθεῖς (disobedient), ἀχάριστοι (ungrateful), ἀνόσιοι (unholy), ³ ἄστοργοι (unloving), ἄσπονδοι (implacable), διάβολοι (slanderous), ἀκρατεῖς (without self-control), ἀνήμεροι (savage), ἀφιλάγαθοι (without love of good), ⁴ προδόται (treacherous), προπετεῖς (reckless), τετυφωμένοι (puffed up), φιλήδονοι (lovers of pleasure) μᾶλλον (rather) ἢ (than) φιλόθεοι (lovers of God), ⁵ ἔχοντες (having) μόρφωσιν (a form) εὐσεβείας (of godliness) τὴν (-) δὲ (but) δύναμιν (the power) αὐτῆς (of it) ἠρνημένοι (denying). καὶ (And) τούτους (these) ἀποτρέπου (turn away from).

¹⁸ καὶ (and) ὁ (the) Ζῶν (Living One); καὶ (and) ἐγενόμην (I was) νεκρὸς (dead), καὶ (and) ἰδοὺ (behold) ζῶν (living) εἰμι (I am) εἰς (to) τοὺς (the) αἰῶνας (ages) τῶν (of the) αἰώνων (ages), καὶ (and) ἔχω (I have) τὰς (the) κλεῖς (keys) τοῦ (of) θανάτου (Death) καὶ (and) τοῦ (of) ᾅδου (Hades).

²⁰ τὸ (the) μυστήριον (mystery) τῶν (of the) ἑπτὰ (seven) ἀστέρων (stars), οὓς (which) εἶδες (you saw) ἐπὶ (on) τῆς (the) δεξιᾶς (right hand) μου (of Me), καὶ (and) τὰς (the) ἑπτὰ (seven) λυχνίας (lampstands) τὰς (-) χρυσᾶς (golden): οἱ (The) ἑπτὰ (seven) ἀστέρες (stars) ἄγγελοι (the angels) τῶν (of the) ἑπτὰ (seven) ἐκκλησιῶν (churches) εἰσίν (are), καὶ (and) αἱ (the) λυχνίαι (lampstands) αἱ (-) ἑπτὰ (seven) ἑπτὰ (the seven) ἐκκλησίαι (churches) εἰσίν (are).

² καὶ (And) εἶδον (I saw) τοὺς (the) ἑπτὰ (seven) ἀγγέλους (angels) οἳ (who) ἐνώπιον (before) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (God) ἑστήκασιν (stand), καὶ (and) ἐδόθησαν (were given) αὐτοῖς (to them) ἑπτὰ (seven) σάλπιγγες (trumpets).

⁶ Καὶ (And) οἱ (the) ἑπτὰ (seven) ἄγγελοι (angels) οἱ (-) ἔχοντες (having) τὰς (the) ἑπτὰ (seven) σάλπιγγας (trumpets) ἡτοίμασαν (prepared) αὑτοὺς (themselves) ἵνα (that) σαλπίσωσιν (they might sound the trumpets). ⁷ Καὶ (And) ὁ (the) πρῶτος (first) ἐσάλπισεν (sounded his trumpet), καὶ (and) ἐγένετο (there was) χάλαζα (hail), καὶ (and) πῦρ (fire) μεμιγμένα (having been mixed) ἐν (with) αἵματι (blood), καὶ (and) ἐβλήθη (it was cast) εἰς (upon) τὴν (the) γῆν (earth). καὶ (And) τὸ (a) τρίτον (third) τῆς (of) γῆς (the earth) κατεκάη (was burned up), καὶ (and) τὸ (a) τρίτον (third) τῶν (of the) δένδρων (trees) κατεκάη (were burned up), καὶ (and) πᾶς (all) χόρτος (the grass) χλωρὸς (green) κατεκάη (was burned up). ⁸ Καὶ (And) ὁ (the) δεύτερος (second) ἄγγελος (angel) ἐσάλπισεν (sounded his trumpet), καὶ (and) ὡς (something like) ὄρος (a mountain) μέγα (great), πυρὶ (with fire) καιόμενον (burning), ἐβλήθη (was cast) εἰς (into) τὴν (the) θάλασσαν (sea). καὶ (And) ἐγένετο (became) τὸ (a) τρίτον (third) τῆς (of the) θαλάσσης (sea) αἷμα (blood),

¹⁰ Καὶ (And) ὁ (the) τρίτος (third) ἄγγελος (angel) ἐσάλπισεν (sounded his trumpet), καὶ (and) ἔπεσεν (fell) ἐκ (out of) τοῦ (-) οὐρανοῦ (heaven) ἀστὴρ (a star) μέγας (great), καιόμενος (burning) ὡς (like) λαμπάς (a torch). καὶ (And) ἔπεσεν (it fell) ἐπὶ (upon) τὸ (a) τρίτον (third) τῶν (of the) ποταμῶν (rivers), καὶ (and) ἐπὶ (upon) τὰς (the) πηγὰς (springs) τῶν (of) ὑδάτων (waters).

¹² Καὶ (And) ὁ (the) τέταρτος (fourth) ἄγγελος (angel) ἐσάλπισεν (sounded his trumpet), καὶ (and) ἐπλήγη (was struck) τὸ (a) τρίτον (third) τοῦ (of the) ἡλίου (sun), καὶ (and) τὸ (a) τρίτον (third) τῆς (of the) σελήνης (moon), καὶ (and) τὸ (a) τρίτον (third) τῶν (of the) ἀστέρων (stars), ἵνα (so that) σκοτισθῇ (should be darkened) τὸ (a) τρίτον (third) αὐτῶν (of them), καὶ (and) ἡ (the) ἡμέρα (day) μὴ (not) φάνῃ (should appear for) τὸ (a) τρίτον (third) αὐτῆς (of it), καὶ (and) ἡ (the) νὺξ (night) ὁμοίως (likewise).

¹⁴ Ἡ (The) Οὐαὶ (woe) ἡ (-) δευτέρα (second) ἀπῆλθεν (has passed). ἰδοὺ (Behold), ἡ (the) Οὐαὶ (woe) ἡ (-) τρίτη (third) ἔρχεται (is coming) ταχύ (quickly). ¹⁵ Καὶ (And) ὁ (the) ἕβδομος (seventh) ἄγγελος (angel) ἐσάλπισεν (sounded his trumpet), καὶ (and) ἐγένοντο (there were) φωναὶ (voices) μεγάλαι (great) ἐν (in) τῷ (-) οὐρανῷ (heaven), λέγοντες (saying): “Ἐγένετο (Has become) ἡ (the) βασιλεία (kingdom) τοῦ (of the) κόσμου (world), τοῦ (that of the) Κυρίου (Lord) ἡμῶν (of us), καὶ (and) τοῦ (of the) Χριστοῦ (Christ) αὐτοῦ (of Him), καὶ (and) βασιλεύσει (He will reign) εἰς (to) τοὺς (the) αἰῶνας (ages) τῶν (of the) αἰώνων (ages).”

⁸ Τὸ (The) θηρίον (beast) ὃ (that) εἶδες (you saw) ἦν (was), καὶ (and) οὐκ (not) ἔστιν (is), καὶ (and) μέλλει (is about) ἀναβαίνειν (to come up) ἐκ (out of) τῆς (the) ἀβύσσου (abyss) καὶ (and) εἰς (into) ἀπώλειαν (destruction) ὑπάγει (go); καὶ (and) θαυμασθήσονται (will wonder) οἱ (those) κατοικοῦντες (dwelling) ἐπὶ (on) τῆς (the) γῆς (earth), ὧν (whose) οὐ (not) γέγραπται (are written) τὸ (-) ὄνομα (names) ἐπὶ (in) τὸ (the) βιβλίον (book) τῆς (-) ζωῆς (of life) ἀπὸ (from) καταβολῆς (the foundation) κόσμου (of the world), βλεπόντων (seeing) τὸ (the) θηρίον (beast) ὅτι (which) ἦν (was), καὶ (and) οὐκ (not) ἔστιν (is), καὶ (and yet) παρέσται (will be).

¹ Καὶ (And) εἶδον (I saw) ἄγγελον (an angel) καταβαίνοντα (descending) ἐκ (out of) τοῦ (-) οὐρανοῦ (heaven), ἔχοντα (holding) τὴν (the) κλεῖν (key) τῆς (of the) ἀβύσσου (Abyss), καὶ (and) ἅλυσιν (a chain) μεγάλην (great) ἐπὶ (in) τὴν (the) χεῖρα (hand) αὐτοῦ (of him).

¹⁰ καὶ (And) ὁ (the) διάβολος (devil), ὁ (the one) πλανῶν (deceiving) αὐτοὺς (them), ἐβλήθη (was cast) εἰς (into) τὴν (the) λίμνην (lake) τοῦ (-) πυρὸς (of fire) καὶ (and) θείου (of sulfur), ὅπου (where are) καὶ (also) τὸ (the) θηρίον (beast) καὶ (and) ὁ (the) ψευδοπροφήτης (false prophet); καὶ (and) βασανισθήσονται (they will be tormented) ἡμέρας (day) καὶ (and) νυκτὸς (night) εἰς (to) τοὺς (the) αἰῶνας (ages) τῶν (of the) αἰώνων (ages).

¹⁹ καὶ (and) δώσω (I will show) τέρατα (wonders) ἐν (in) τῷ (-) οὐρανῷ (heaven) ἄνω (above), καὶ (and) σημεῖα (signs) ἐπὶ (on) τῆς (the) γῆς (earth) κάτω (below), αἷμα (blood) καὶ (and) πῦρ (fire) καὶ (and) ἀτμίδα (vapor) καπνοῦ (of smoke).

¹⁷ Καὶ (And) οὕτως (thus) εἶδον (I saw) τοὺς (the) ἵππους (horses) ἐν (in) τῇ (the) ὁράσει (vision), καὶ (and) τοὺς (those) καθημένους (sitting) ἐπ’ (on) αὐτῶν (them), ἔχοντας (having) θώρακας (breastplates) πυρίνους (fiery) καὶ (and) ὑακινθίνους (hyacinthine) καὶ (and) θειώδεις (brimstone). καὶ (And) αἱ (the) κεφαλαὶ (heads) τῶν (of the) ἵππων (horses were) ὡς (like) κεφαλαὶ (heads) λεόντων (of lions), καὶ (and) ἐκ (out of) τῶν (the) στομάτων (mouths) αὐτῶν (of them) ἐκπορεύεται (proceed) πῦρ (fire), καὶ (and) καπνὸς (smoke), καὶ (and) θεῖον (brimstone).

¹¹ καὶ (And) ὁ (the) καπνὸς (smoke) τοῦ (of the) βασανισμοῦ (torment) αὐτῶν (of them) εἰς (to) αἰῶνας (ages) αἰώνων (of ages) ἀναβαίνει (goes up); καὶ (and) οὐκ (not) ἔχουσιν (have) ἀνάπαυσιν (rest) ἡμέρας (day) καὶ (and) νυκτός (night) οἱ (those) προσκυνοῦντες (worshiping) τὸ (the) θηρίον (beast) καὶ (and) τὴν (the) εἰκόνα (image) αὐτοῦ (of it), καὶ (and) εἴ (if) τις (anyone) λαμβάνει (receives) τὸ (the) χάραγμα (mark) τοῦ (of the) ὀνόματος (name) αὐτοῦ (of it).”

¹⁹ ἰδοὺ (Behold), δέδωκα (I give) ὑμῖν (you) τὴν (the) ἐξουσίαν (authority) τοῦ (-) πατεῖν (to tread) ἐπάνω (upon) ὄφεων (serpents) καὶ (and) σκορπίων (scorpions), καὶ (and) ἐπὶ (upon) πᾶσαν (all) τὴν (the) δύναμιν (power) τοῦ (of the) ἐχθροῦ (enemy), καὶ (and) οὐδὲν (nothing) ὑμᾶς (you) οὐ (no) μὴ (not) ἀδικήσῃ* (will injure).

⁵ καὶ (And) ἐδόθη (it was granted) αὐτοῖς (to them) ἵνα (that) μὴ (not) ἀποκτείνωσιν (they should kill) αὐτούς (them), ἀλλ’ (but) ἵνα (that) βασανισθήσονται (they shall torment them) μῆνας (months) πέντε (five). καὶ (And) ὁ (the) βασανισμὸς (torment) αὐτῶν (of them) ὡς (was like) βασανισμὸς (torment) σκορπίου (of a scorpion), ὅταν (when) παίσῃ (it might strike) ἄνθρωπον (a man).

¹⁰ καὶ (And) ἔχουσιν (they have) οὐρὰς (tails) ὁμοίας (like) σκορπίοις (scorpions) καὶ (and) κέντρα (stingers), καὶ (and) ἐν (in) ταῖς (the) οὐραῖς (tails) αὐτῶν (of them) ἡ (is the) ἐξουσία (power) αὐτῶν (of them) ἀδικῆσαι (to injure) τοὺς (-) ἀνθρώπους (men) μῆνας (for months) πέντε (five). ¹¹ ἔχουσιν (They have) ἐπ’ (over) αὐτῶν (them) βασιλέα (a king), τὸν (the) ἄγγελον (angel) τῆς (of the) ἀβύσσου (abyss). ὄνομα (The name) αὐτῷ (of Him) Ἑβραϊστί (in Hebrew) Ἀβαδδών (is Abaddon), καὶ (and) ἐν (in) τῇ (the) Ἑλληνικῇ (Greek), ὄνομα (the name) ἔχει (he has) Ἀπολλύων (Apollyon).

²⁴ ἐγερθήσονται (There will arise) γὰρ (for) ψευδόχριστοι (false Christs) καὶ (and) ψευδοπροφῆται (false prophets), καὶ (and) δώσουσιν (they will give) σημεῖα (signs) μεγάλα (great), καὶ (and) τέρατα (wonders), ὥστε (so as) πλανῆσαι (to mislead), εἰ (if) δυνατὸν (possible), καὶ (even) τοὺς (the) ἐκλεκτούς (elect).

³⁰ Καὶ (And) μὴ (not) λυπεῖτε (grieve) τὸ (the) Πνεῦμα (Spirit) τὸ (-) Ἅγιον (Holy) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God), ἐν (in) ᾧ (whom) ἐσφραγίσθητε (you were sealed) εἰς (for) ἡμέραν (the day) ἀπολυτρώσεως (of redemption).

⁸ ὃν (By which) τρόπον (way) δὲ (now) Ἰάννης (Jannes) καὶ (and) Ἰαμβρῆς (Jambres) ἀντέστησαν (opposed) Μωϋσεῖ (Moses), οὕτως (so) καὶ (also) οὗτοι (these) ἀνθίστανται (oppose) τῇ (the) ἀληθείᾳ (truth), ἄνθρωποι (men) κατεφθαρμένοι (being depraved) τὸν (-) νοῦν (in mind), ἀδόκιμοι (disqualified) περὶ (regarding) τὴν (the) πίστιν (faith). ⁹ ἀλλ’ (But) οὐ (not) προκόψουσιν (they will advance) ἐπὶ (further) πλεῖον (much), ἡ (-) γὰρ (for) ἄνοια (the folly) αὐτῶν (of them) ἔκδηλος (plain) ἔσται (will be) πᾶσιν (to all), ὡς (as) καὶ (also) ἡ (that) ἐκείνων (of those two) ἐγένετο (became).

⁶ καὶ (And) ἤκουσα (I heard) ὡς (something like) φωνὴν (a voice) ἐν (in) μέσῳ (the midst) τῶν (of the) τεσσάρων (four) ζῴων (living creatures), λέγουσαν (saying), “Χοῖνιξ (A choenix) σίτου (of wheat) δηναρίου (for a denarius), καὶ (and) τρεῖς (three) χοίνικες (choenixes) κριθῶν (of barley) δηναρίου (for a denarius); καὶ (and) τὸ (the) ἔλαιον (oil) καὶ (and) τὸν (the) οἶνον (wine) μὴ (not) ἀδικήσῃς (you should injure).”

² καὶ (And) εἶδον (I saw) ἄλλον (another) ἄγγελον (angel), ἀναβαίνοντα (having ascended) ἀπὸ (from) ἀνατολῆς (the rising) ἡλίου (of the sun), ἔχοντα (having) σφραγῖδα (the seal) Θεοῦ (of God) ζῶντος (the living). καὶ (And) ἔκραξεν (he cried) φωνῇ (in a voice) μεγάλῃ (loud) τοῖς (to the) τέσσαρσιν (four) ἀγγέλοις (angels) οἷς (to whom) ἐδόθη (it had been given) αὐτοῖς (to them) ἀδικῆσαι (to harm) τὴν (the) γῆν (earth) καὶ (and) τὴν (the) θάλασσαν (sea), ³ λέγων (saying), “Μὴ (Not) ἀδικήσητε (harm) τὴν (the) γῆν (earth), μήτε (nor) τὴν (the) θάλασσαν (sea), μήτε (nor) τὰ (the) δένδρα (trees), ἄχρι (until) σφραγίσωμεν (we shall have sealed) τοὺς (the) δούλους (servants) τοῦ (of the) Θεοῦ (God) ἡμῶν (of us), ἐπὶ (on) τῶν (the) μετώπων (foreheads) αὐτῶν (of them).” ⁴ Καὶ (And) ἤκουσα (I heard) τὸν (the) ἀριθμὸν (number) τῶν (of those) ἐσφραγισμένων (having been sealed), ἑκατὸν (one hundred) τεσσεράκοντα (forty) τέσσαρες (four) χιλιάδες (thousand), ἐσφραγισμένοι (having been sealed) ἐκ (out of) πάσης (every) φυλῆς (tribe) υἱῶν (of the sons) Ἰσραήλ (of Israel):

⁷ Καὶ (And) ὁ (the) πρῶτος (first) ἐσάλπισεν (sounded his trumpet), καὶ (and) ἐγένετο (there was) χάλαζα (hail), καὶ (and) πῦρ (fire) μεμιγμένα (having been mixed) ἐν (with) αἵματι (blood), καὶ (and) ἐβλήθη (it was cast) εἰς (upon) τὴν (the) γῆν (earth). καὶ (And) τὸ (a) τρίτον (third) τῆς (of) γῆς (the earth) κατεκάη (was burned up), καὶ (and) τὸ (a) τρίτον (third) τῶν (of the) δένδρων (trees) κατεκάη (were burned up), καὶ (and) πᾶς (all) χόρτος (the grass) χλωρὸς (green) κατεκάη (was burned up).

¹ Καὶ (And) εἶδον (I looked), καὶ (and) ἰδοὺ (behold), τὸ (the) Ἀρνίον (Lamb) ἑστὸς (was standing) ἐπὶ (upon) τὸ (-) ὄρος (Mount) Σιών (Zion), καὶ (and) μετ’ (with) αὐτοῦ (Him) ἑκατὸν (one hundred) τεσσεράκοντα (forty) τέσσαρες (four) χιλιάδες (thousand), ἔχουσαι (having) τὸ (the) ὄνομα (name) αὐτοῦ (of Him) καὶ (and) τὸ (the) ὄνομα (name) τοῦ (of the) Πατρὸς (Father) αὐτοῦ (of Him) γεγραμμένον (having been written) ἐπὶ (on) τῶν (the) μετώπων (foreheads) αὐτῶν (of them).

¹¹ Ἀπεκρίθη (Answered) ‹αὐτῷ› (him) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus), “Οὐκ (Not) εἶχες (you would have) ἐξουσίαν (authority) κατ’ (also) ἐμοῦ (Me) οὐδεμίαν (against), εἰ (if) μὴ (not) ἦν (it were) δεδομένον (given) σοι (to you) ἄνωθεν (from above). διὰ (Because of) τοῦτο (this), ὁ (the one) παραδούς (having delivered up) μέ (Me) σοι (to you), μείζονα (greater) ἁμαρτίαν (sin) ἔχει (has).”

³ Καὶ (And) ἐκ (out of) τοῦ (the) καπνοῦ (smoke) ἐξῆλθον (came forth) ἀκρίδες (locusts) εἰς (unto) τὴν (the) γῆν (earth), καὶ (and) ἐδόθη (was given) αὐταῖς* (to them) ἐξουσία (power), ὡς (like) ἔχουσιν (have) ἐξουσίαν (power) οἱ (the) σκορπίοι (scorpions) τῆς (of the) γῆς (earth).

⁷ Καὶ (And) ὅταν (when) τελέσωσιν (they shall have completed) τὴν (the) μαρτυρίαν (testimony) αὐτῶν (of them), τὸ (the) θηρίον (beast) τὸ (-) ἀναβαῖνον (coming up) ἐκ (out of) τῆς (the) ἀβύσσου (abyss) ποιήσει (will make) μετ’ (with) αὐτῶν (them) πόλεμον (war), καὶ (and) νικήσει (will overcome) αὐτοὺς (them), καὶ (and) ἀποκτενεῖ (will kill) αὐτούς (them).

⁵ Καὶ (And) ἐδόθη (was given) αὐτῷ (to it) στόμα (a mouth) λαλοῦν (speaking) μεγάλα (great things) καὶ (and) βλασφημίας (blasphemy); καὶ (and) ἐδόθη (was given) αὐτῷ (to it) ἐξουσία (authority) ποιῆσαι (to act) μῆνας (months) τεσσεράκοντα (forty) [καὶ] (and) δύο (two).

⁷ Καὶ (And) ἐδόθη (there was given) αὐτῷ (to it) ποιῆσαι (to make) πόλεμον (war) μετὰ (with) τῶν (the) ἁγίων (saints), καὶ (and) νικῆσαι (to overcome) αὐτούς (them). καὶ (And) ἐδόθη (was given) αὐτῷ (to it) ἐξουσία (authority) ἐπὶ (over) πᾶσαν (every) φυλὴν (tribe) καὶ (and) λαὸν (people) καὶ (and) γλῶσσαν (tongue) καὶ (and) ἔθνος (nation).

³⁰ τότε (Then) ‘Ἄρξονται (They will begin) λέγειν (to say) τοῖς (to the) ὄρεσιν (mountains), “Πέσετε* (Fall) ἐφ’ (upon) ἡμᾶς (us),” Καὶ (and) τοῖς (to the) βουνοῖς (hills), “Καλύψατε (Cover) ἡμᾶς (us).”’

⁸ οἱ (-) γὰρ (For) μαθηταὶ (the disciples) αὐτοῦ (of Him) ἀπεληλύθεισαν (had gone away) εἰς (into) τὴν (the) πόλιν (city), ἵνα (that) τροφὰς (food) ἀγοράσωσιν (they might buy). ⁹ Λέγει (Says) οὖν (therefore) αὐτῷ (to Him) ἡ (the) γυνὴ (woman) ἡ (-) Σαμαρῖτις (Samaritan), “Πῶς (How) σὺ (You) Ἰουδαῖος (a Jew) ὢν (being), παρ’ (from) ἐμοῦ (me) πεῖν (to drink) αἰτεῖς (do ask), γυναικὸς (a woman) Σαμαρίτιδος (Samaritan) οὔσης (being)?” οὐ (Not) γὰρ (for) συνχρῶνται (have association) Ἰουδαῖοι (Jews) Σαμαρίταις (with Samaritans).

¹⁴ οὐδὲ (Not even) ἡ (-) φύσις (nature) αὐτὴ (itself) διδάσκει (does teach) ὑμᾶς (you) ὅτι (that) ἀνὴρ (a man) μὲν (indeed), ἐὰν (if) κομᾷ (he has long hair), ἀτιμία (a dishonor) αὐτῷ (to him) ἐστιν (it is); ¹⁵ γυνὴ (a woman) δὲ (however) ἐὰν (if) κομᾷ (she has long hair), δόξα (glory) αὐτῇ (to her) ἐστιν (it is)? ὅτι (For) ἡ (the) κόμη (long hair) ἀντὶ (instead) περιβολαίου (of a covering) δέδοται (is given) αὐτῇ (to her).

³ ὧν (whose) ἔστω (let it be) οὐχ (not) ὁ (the) ἔξωθεν (external) ἐμπλοκῆς (of braiding) τριχῶν (of hair) καὶ (and) περιθέσεως (putting around) χρυσίων (of gold), ἢ (or) ἐνδύσεως (putting on) ἱματίων (of garments) κόσμος (adorning),

¹⁹ ἡ (The) γὰρ (for) ἐξουσία (powers) τῶν (of the) ἵππων (horses) ἐν (in) τῷ (the) στόματι (mouths) αὐτῶν (of them) ἐστιν (are), καὶ (and) ἐν (in) ταῖς (the) οὐραῖς (tails) αὐτῶν (of them); αἱ (the) γὰρ (for) οὐραὶ (tails) αὐτῶν (of them) ὅμοιαι (are like) ὄφεσιν (serpents), ἔχουσαι (having) κεφαλάς (heads), καὶ (and) ἐν (with) αὐταῖς (them) ἀδικοῦσιν (they injure).

⁴⁴ ὑμεῖς (You) ἐκ (of) τοῦ (the) πατρὸς (father) τοῦ (the) διαβόλου (devil) ἐστὲ (are), καὶ (and) τὰς (the) ἐπιθυμίας (desires) τοῦ (of) πατρὸς (father) ὑμῶν (of you), θέλετε (you desire) ποιεῖν (to do). ἐκεῖνος (He) ἀνθρωποκτόνος (a murderer) ἦν (was) ἀπ’ (from) ἀρχῆς (the beginning), καὶ (and) ἐν (in) τῇ (the) ἀληθείᾳ (truth) οὐκ (not) ἔστηκεν (has stood), ὅτι (because) οὐκ (not) ἔστιν (there is) ἀλήθεια (truth) ἐν (in) αὐτῷ (him). ὅταν (Whenever) λαλῇ (he might speak) τὸ (-) ψεῦδος (falsehood), ἐκ (from) τῶν (the) ἰδίων (own) λαλεῖ (he speaks); ὅτι (for) ψεύστης (a liar) ἐστὶν (he is), καὶ (and) ὁ (the) πατὴρ (father) αὐτοῦ (of it).

³¹ νῦν (Now) κρίσις (the judgment) ἐστὶν (is) τοῦ (the) κόσμου (world) τούτου (of this); νῦν (now) ὁ (the) ἄρχων (prince) τοῦ (of the) κόσμου (world) τούτου (this) ἐκβληθήσεται (will be cast) ἔξω (out).

³⁰ Οὐκέτι (No longer) πολλὰ (much) λαλήσω (I will speak) μεθ’ (with) ὑμῶν (you); ἔρχεται (comes) γὰρ (for) ὁ (the) τοῦ (of this) κόσμου (world) ἄρχων (ruler), καὶ (and) ἐν (in) ἐμοὶ (Me) οὐκ (not) ἔχει (he has) οὐδέν (nothing);

¹¹ περὶ (concerning) δὲ (now) κρίσεως (judgment), ὅτι (because) ὁ (the) ἄρχων (ruler) τοῦ (of the) κόσμου (world) τούτου (this) κέκριται (has been judged).

⁴ ἐν (in) οἷς (whom) ὁ (the) θεὸς (god) τοῦ (of the) αἰῶνος (age) τούτου (this) ἐτύφλωσεν (has blinded) τὰ (the) νοήματα (minds) τῶν (of the) ἀπίστων (unbelieving), εἰς (so as for) τὸ (-) μὴ (not) αὐγάσαι (to beam forth) τὸν (the) φωτισμὸν (illumination) τοῦ (of the) εὐαγγελίου (gospel) τῆς (of the) δόξης (glory) τοῦ (-) Χριστοῦ (of Christ), ὅς (who) ἐστιν (is) εἰκὼν (the image) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God).

⁴ Ὑμεῖς (You) ἐκ (from) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (God) ἐστε (are), τεκνία (little children), καὶ (and) νενικήκατε (have overcome) αὐτούς (them), ὅτι (because) μείζων (greater) ἐστὶν (is) ὁ (the One) ἐν (in) ὑμῖν (you) ἢ (than) ὁ (the one) ἐν (in) τῷ (the) κόσμῳ (world).

¹⁹ οἴδαμεν (We know) ὅτι (that) ἐκ (of) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (God) ἐσμεν (we are), καὶ (and) ὁ (the) κόσμος (world) ὅλος (whole), ἐν (in) τῷ (the) πονηρῷ (evil one) κεῖται (lies).

¹ Καὶ (And) ὁ (the) πέμπτος (fifth) ἄγγελος (angel) ἐσάλπισεν (sounded his trumpet), καὶ (and) εἶδον (I saw) ἀστέρα (a star) ἐκ (out of) τοῦ (-) οὐρανοῦ (heaven) πεπτωκότα (having fallen) εἰς (to) τὴν (the) γῆν (earth), καὶ (and) ἐδόθη (was given) αὐτῷ (to it) ἡ (the) κλεὶς (key) τοῦ (of the) φρέατος (pit) τῆς (of the) ἀβύσσου (abyss). ² καὶ (And) ἤνοιξεν (he opened) τὸ (the) φρέαρ (pit) τῆς (of the) ἀβύσσου (abyss), καὶ (and) ἀνέβη (went up) καπνὸς (smoke) ἐκ (out of) τοῦ (the) φρέατος (pit), ὡς (like) καπνὸς (the smoke) καμίνου (of a furnace) μεγάλης (great), καὶ (and) ἐσκοτώθη (were darkened) ὁ (the) ἥλιος (sun) καὶ (and) ὁ (the) ἀὴρ (air) ἐκ (by) τοῦ (the) καπνοῦ (smoke) τοῦ (of the) φρέατος (pit).

⁹ καὶ (And) ἐβλήθη (was thrown out) ὁ (the) δράκων (dragon) ὁ (-) μέγας (great), ὁ (the) ὄφις (serpent) ὁ (-) ἀρχαῖος (ancient), ὁ (who) καλούμενος (is called) Διάβολος (the devil) καὶ (and) Ὁ (-) Σατανᾶς (Satan), ὁ (-) πλανῶν (deceiving) τὴν (the) οἰκουμένην (inhabited world) ὅλην (whole). ἐβλήθη (He was thrown down) εἰς (to) τὴν (the) γῆν (earth), καὶ (and) οἱ (the) ἄγγελοι (angels) αὐτοῦ (of him) μετ’ (with) αὐτοῦ (him) ἐβλήθησαν (were thrown down).

¹³ Καὶ (And) εἶδον (I looked), καὶ (and) ἤκουσα (I heard) ἑνὸς (one) ἀετοῦ (eagle) πετομένου (flying) ἐν (in) μεσουρανήματι (mid-heaven), λέγοντος (saying) φωνῇ (in a voice) μεγάλῃ (loud), “Οὐαὶ (Woe)! οὐαὶ (Woe)! οὐαὶ (Woe) τοὺς (to those) κατοικοῦντας (dwelling) ἐπὶ (on) τῆς (the) γῆς (earth), ἐκ (because of) τῶν (the) λοιπῶν (remaining) φωνῶν (voices) τῆς (of the) σάλπιγγος (trumpet) τῶν (of the) τριῶν (three) ἀγγέλων (angels) τῶν (-) μελλόντων (being about) σαλπίζειν (to sound their trumpets)!”

¹³ Καὶ (And) ὁ (the) ἕκτος (sixth) ἄγγελος (angel) ἐσάλπισεν (sounded his trumpet), καὶ (and) ἤκουσα (I heard) φωνὴν (voice) μίαν (one) ἐκ (from) τῶν (the) τεσσάρων (four) κεράτων (horns) τοῦ (of the) θυσιαστηρίου (altar) τοῦ (-) χρυσοῦ (golden) τοῦ (-) ἐνώπιον (before) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (God), ¹⁴ λέγοντα (saying) τῷ (to the) ἕκτῳ (sixth) ἀγγέλῳ (angel), ὁ (the one) ἔχων (having) τὴν (the) σάλπιγγα (trumpet), “Λῦσον (Release) τοὺς (the) τέσσαρας (four) ἀγγέλους (angels), τοὺς (those) δεδεμένους (having been bound) ἐπὶ (at) τῷ (the) ποταμῷ (river) τῷ (-) μεγάλῳ (great) Εὐφράτῃ (Euphrates).” ¹⁵ καὶ (And) ἐλύθησαν (were released) οἱ (the) τέσσαρες (four) ἄγγελοι (angels) οἱ (-) ἡτοιμασμένοι (having been prepared) εἰς (for) τὴν (the) ὥραν (hour) καὶ (and) ἡμέραν (day) καὶ (and) μῆνα (month) καὶ (and) ἐνιαυτόν (year), ἵνα (so that) ἀποκτείνωσιν (they might kill) τὸ (a) τρίτον (third) τῶν (-) ἀνθρώπων (of mankind). ¹⁶ καὶ (And) ὁ (the) ἀριθμὸς (number) τῶν (of the) στρατευμάτων (armies) τοῦ (of the) ἱππικοῦ (cavalry was) δισμυριάδες* (twice ten thousand) μυριάδων (ten thousands); ἤκουσα (I heard) τὸν (the) ἀριθμὸν (number) αὐτῶν (of them). ¹⁷ Καὶ (And) οὕτως (thus) εἶδον (I saw) τοὺς (the) ἵππους (horses) ἐν (in) τῇ (the) ὁράσει (vision), καὶ (and) τοὺς (those) καθημένους (sitting) ἐπ’ (on) αὐτῶν (them), ἔχοντας (having) θώρακας (breastplates) πυρίνους (fiery) καὶ (and) ὑακινθίνους (hyacinthine) καὶ (and) θειώδεις (brimstone). καὶ (And) αἱ (the) κεφαλαὶ (heads) τῶν (of the) ἵππων (horses were) ὡς (like) κεφαλαὶ (heads) λεόντων (of lions), καὶ (and) ἐκ (out of) τῶν (the) στομάτων (mouths) αὐτῶν (of them) ἐκπορεύεται (proceed) πῦρ (fire), καὶ (and) καπνὸς (smoke), καὶ (and) θεῖον (brimstone). ¹⁸ ἀπὸ (By) τῶν (-) τριῶν (three) πληγῶν (plagues) τούτων (these) ἀπεκτάνθησαν (was killed) τὸ (a) τρίτον (third) τῶν (of) ἀνθρώπων (mankind), ἐκ (by) τοῦ (the) πυρὸς (fire), καὶ (and) τοῦ (by the) καπνοῦ (smoke), καὶ (and) τοῦ (by the) θείου (brimstone), τοῦ (-) ἐκπορευομένου (proceeding) ἐκ (out of) τῶν (the) στομάτων (mouths) αὐτῶν (of them). ¹⁹ ἡ (The) γὰρ (for) ἐξουσία (powers) τῶν (of the) ἵππων (horses) ἐν (in) τῷ (the) στόματι (mouths) αὐτῶν (of them) ἐστιν (are), καὶ (and) ἐν (in) ταῖς (the) οὐραῖς (tails) αὐτῶν (of them); αἱ (the) γὰρ (for) οὐραὶ (tails) αὐτῶν (of them) ὅμοιαι (are like) ὄφεσιν (serpents), ἔχουσαι (having) κεφαλάς (heads), καὶ (and) ἐν (with) αὐταῖς (them) ἀδικοῦσιν (they injure). ²⁰ ‹Καὶ (And) οἱ (the) λοιποὶ (rest) τῶν (of the) ἀνθρώπων (men) οἳ (who) οὐκ (not) ἀπεκτάνθησαν (were killed) ἐν (by) ταῖς (the) πληγαῖς (plagues) ταύταις (these) οὐδὲ (not even) μετενόησαν (repented) ἐκ (of) τῶν (the) ἔργων (works) τῶν (of the) χειρῶν (hands) αὐτῶν (of them), ἵνα (so that) μὴ (not) προσκυνήσουσιν (they will worship) τὰ (the) δαιμόνια (demons), καὶ (and) τὰ (the) εἴδωλα (idols) τὰ (-) χρυσᾶ (golden) καὶ (and) τὰ (-) ἀργυρᾶ (silver) καὶ (and) τὰ (-) χαλκᾶ (bronze) καὶ (and) τὰ (-) λίθινα (stone) καὶ (and) τὰ (-) ξύλινα (wooden), ἃ (which) οὔτε (neither) βλέπειν (to see) δύνανται (are able), οὔτε (nor) ἀκούειν (to hear), οὔτε (nor) περιπατεῖν› (to walk). ²¹ καὶ (And) οὐ (not) μετενόησαν (they repented) ἐκ (of) τῶν (the) φόνων (murders) αὐτῶν (of them), οὔτε (nor) ἐκ (of) τῶν (the) φαρμάκων (sorceries) αὐτῶν (of them), οὔτε (nor) ἐκ (of) τῆς (the) πορνείας (sexual immorality) αὐτῶν (of them), οὔτε (nor) ἐκ (of) τῶν (the) κλεμμάτων (thefts) αὐτῶν (of them).

¹⁴ Ἡ (The) Οὐαὶ (woe) ἡ (-) δευτέρα (second) ἀπῆλθεν (has passed). ἰδοὺ (Behold), ἡ (the) Οὐαὶ (woe) ἡ (-) τρίτη (third) ἔρχεται (is coming) ταχύ (quickly).

²⁴ οὐ (Not) γὰρ (for) εἰς (into) χειροποίητα (made by hands) εἰσῆλθεν (has entered) ἅγια (holy places) Χριστός (Christ), ἀντίτυπα (copies) τῶν (of the) ἀληθινῶν (true ones), ἀλλ’ (but) εἰς (into) αὐτὸν (itself) τὸν (-) οὐρανόν (heaven), νῦν (now) ἐμφανισθῆναι (to appear) τῷ (in the) προσώπῳ (presence) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God) ὑπὲρ (for) ἡμῶν (us),

²¹ καὶ (and having) ἱερέα (a priest) μέγαν (great) ἐπὶ (over) τὸν (the) οἶκον (house) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God),

³ Καὶ (And) ἄλλος (another) ἄγγελος (angel) ἦλθεν (came) καὶ (and) ἐστάθη (stood) ἐπὶ (at) τοῦ (the) θυσιαστηρίου (altar), ἔχων (having) λιβανωτὸν (a censer) χρυσοῦν (golden); καὶ (and) ἐδόθη (was given) αὐτῷ (to him) θυμιάματα (incense) πολλὰ (much), ἵνα (that) δώσει (he will offer it) ταῖς (with the) προσευχαῖς (prayers) τῶν (of the) ἁγίων (saints) πάντων (all) ἐπὶ (upon) τὸ (the) θυσιαστήριον (altar) τὸ (-) χρυσοῦν (golden) τὸ (-) ἐνώπιον (before) τοῦ (the) θρόνου (throne). ⁴ καὶ (And) ἀνέβη (went up) ὁ (the) καπνὸς (smoke) τῶν (of the) θυμιαμάτων (incense) ταῖς (with the) προσευχαῖς (prayers) τῶν (of the) ἁγίων (saints) ἐκ (out of) χειρὸς (the hand) τοῦ (of the) ἀγγέλου (angel), ἐνώπιον (before) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (God). ⁵ Καὶ (And) εἴληφεν (took) ὁ (the) ἄγγελος (angel) τὸν (the) λιβανωτόν (censer), καὶ (and) ἐγέμισεν (filled) αὐτὸν (it) ἐκ (from) τοῦ (the) πυρὸς (fire) τοῦ (of the) θυσιαστηρίου (altar), καὶ (and) ἔβαλεν (cast it) εἰς (to) τὴν (the) γῆν (earth); καὶ (and) ἐγένοντο (there were) βρονταὶ (thunders), καὶ (and) φωναὶ (rumblings), καὶ (and) ἀστραπαὶ (flashes of lightning), καὶ (and) σεισμός (an earthquake).

¹ Μετὰ (After) τοῦτο (these things) εἶδον (I saw) τέσσαρας (four) ἀγγέλους (angels) ἑστῶτας (standing) ἐπὶ (upon) τὰς (the) τέσσαρας (four) γωνίας (corners) τῆς (of the) γῆς (earth), κρατοῦντας (holding) τοὺς (the) τέσσαρας (four) ἀνέμους (winds) τῆς (of the) γῆς (earth), ἵνα (so that) μὴ (no) πνέῃ (would blow) ἄνεμος (wind) ἐπὶ (on) τῆς (the) γῆς (earth), μήτε (nor) ἐπὶ (on) τῆς (the) θαλάσσης (sea), μήτε (nor) ἐπὶ (on) πᾶν (any) δένδρον (tree).

⁶ Καὶ (And) οἱ (the) ἑπτὰ (seven) ἄγγελοι (angels) οἱ (-) ἔχοντες (having) τὰς (the) ἑπτὰ (seven) σάλπιγγας (trumpets) ἡτοίμασαν (prepared) αὑτοὺς (themselves) ἵνα (that) σαλπίσωσιν (they might sound the trumpets).

¹⁵ καὶ (And) ἐλύθησαν (were released) οἱ (the) τέσσαρες (four) ἄγγελοι (angels) οἱ (-) ἡτοιμασμένοι (having been prepared) εἰς (for) τὴν (the) ὥραν (hour) καὶ (and) ἡμέραν (day) καὶ (and) μῆνα (month) καὶ (and) ἐνιαυτόν (year), ἵνα (so that) ἀποκτείνωσιν (they might kill) τὸ (a) τρίτον (third) τῶν (-) ἀνθρώπων (of mankind).

¹² Καὶ (And) ὁ (the) ἕκτος (sixth) ἐξέχεεν (poured out) τὴν (the) φιάλην (bowl) αὐτοῦ (of him) ἐπὶ (upon) τὸν (the) ποταμὸν (river) τὸν (-) μέγαν (great) ‹τὸν› (-) Εὐφράτην (Euphrates), καὶ (and) ἐξηράνθη (was dried up) τὸ (the) ὕδωρ (water) αὐτοῦ (of it), ἵνα (so that) ἑτοιμασθῇ (might be prepared) ἡ (the) ὁδὸς (way) τῶν (of the) βασιλέων (kings) τῶν (-) ἀπὸ (of the) ἀνατολῆς (rising) ἡλίου (of the sun).

⁹ καὶ (and) ἀπέθανεν (died) τὸ (a) τρίτον (third) τῶν (of the) κτισμάτων (creatures) τῶν (-) ἐν (in) τῇ (the) θαλάσσῃ (sea) τὰ (-) ἔχοντα (having) ψυχάς (life), καὶ (and) τὸ (a) τρίτον (third) τῶν (of the) πλοίων (ships) διεφθάρησαν (were destroyed).

¹¹ καὶ (And) τὸ (the) ὄνομα (name) τοῦ (of the) ἀστέρος (star) λέγεται (is called) Ὁ (-) Ἄψινθος (Wormwood). καὶ (And) ἐγένετο (became) τὸ (a) τρίτον (third) τῶν (of the) ὑδάτων (waters) εἰς (into) ἄψινθον (wormwood), καὶ (and) πολλοὶ (many) τῶν (of the) ἀνθρώπων (men) ἀπέθανον (died) ἐκ (from) τῶν (the) ὑδάτων (waters), ὅτι (because) ἐπικράνθησαν (they were made bitter). ¹² Καὶ (And) ὁ (the) τέταρτος (fourth) ἄγγελος (angel) ἐσάλπισεν (sounded his trumpet), καὶ (and) ἐπλήγη (was struck) τὸ (a) τρίτον (third) τοῦ (of the) ἡλίου (sun), καὶ (and) τὸ (a) τρίτον (third) τῆς (of the) σελήνης (moon), καὶ (and) τὸ (a) τρίτον (third) τῶν (of the) ἀστέρων (stars), ἵνα (so that) σκοτισθῇ (should be darkened) τὸ (a) τρίτον (third) αὐτῶν (of them), καὶ (and) ἡ (the) ἡμέρα (day) μὴ (not) φάνῃ (should appear for) τὸ (a) τρίτον (third) αὐτῆς (of it), καὶ (and) ἡ (the) νὺξ (night) ὁμοίως (likewise).

¹⁸ ἀπὸ (By) τῶν (-) τριῶν (three) πληγῶν (plagues) τούτων (these) ἀπεκτάνθησαν (was killed) τὸ (a) τρίτον (third) τῶν (of) ἀνθρώπων (mankind), ἐκ (by) τοῦ (the) πυρὸς (fire), καὶ (and) τοῦ (by the) καπνοῦ (smoke), καὶ (and) τοῦ (by the) θείου (brimstone), τοῦ (-) ἐκπορευομένου (proceeding) ἐκ (out of) τῶν (the) στομάτων (mouths) αὐτῶν (of them).

¹¹ Καὶ (And) εἶδον (I looked), καὶ (and) ἤκουσα (I heard) φωνὴν (the voice) ἀγγέλων (of angels) πολλῶν (many) κύκλῳ (around) τοῦ (the) θρόνου (throne), καὶ (and) τῶν (of the) ζῴων (living creatures), καὶ (and) τῶν (of the) πρεσβυτέρων (elders); καὶ (and) ἦν (was) ὁ (the) ἀριθμὸς (number) αὐτῶν (of them) μυριάδες (myriads) μυριάδων (of myriads) καὶ (and) χιλιάδες (thousands) χιλιάδων (of thousands),

⁴ Καὶ (And) ἤκουσα (I heard) τὸν (the) ἀριθμὸν (number) τῶν (of those) ἐσφραγισμένων (having been sealed), ἑκατὸν (one hundred) τεσσεράκοντα (forty) τέσσαρες (four) χιλιάδες (thousand), ἐσφραγισμένοι (having been sealed) ἐκ (out of) πάσης (every) φυλῆς (tribe) υἱῶν (of the sons) Ἰσραήλ (of Israel):

⁹ καὶ (And) εἶχον (they had) θώρακας (breastplates) ὡς (like) θώρακας (breastplates) σιδηροῦς (of iron), καὶ (and) ἡ (the) φωνὴ (sound) τῶν (of the) πτερύγων (wings) αὐτῶν (of them) ὡς (was as) φωνὴ (the sound) ἁρμάτων (of chariots) ἵππων (of horses) πολλῶν (many) τρεχόντων (rushing) εἰς (into) πόλεμον (battle).

⁵ καὶ (And) εἴ (if) τις (anyone) αὐτοὺς (them) θέλει (should desire) ἀδικῆσαι (to harm), πῦρ (fire) ἐκπορεύεται (goes out) ἐκ (of) τοῦ (the) στόματος (mouth) αὐτῶν (of them) καὶ (and) κατεσθίει (devours) τοὺς (the) ἐχθροὺς (enemies) αὐτῶν (of them). καὶ (And) εἴ (if) τις (anyone) θελήσῃ (should desire) αὐτοὺς (them) ἀδικῆσαι (to harm), οὕτως (thus) δεῖ (it is necessary) αὐτὸν (for him) ἀποκτανθῆναι (to be killed).

¹⁰ καὶ (also) αὐτὸς (he) πίεται (will drink) ἐκ (of) τοῦ (the) οἴνου (wine) τοῦ (of the) θυμοῦ (anger) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God), τοῦ (-) κεκερασμένου (having been mixed) ἀκράτου (undiluted) ἐν (in) τῷ (the) ποτηρίῳ (cup) τῆς (of the) ὀργῆς (wrath) αὐτοῦ (of Him); καὶ (and) βασανισθήσεται (he will be tormented) ἐν (in) πυρὶ (fire) καὶ (and) θείῳ (brimstone), ἐνώπιον (before) ἀγγέλων (the angels) ἁγίων (holy), καὶ (and) ἐνώπιον (before) τοῦ (the) Ἀρνίου (Lamb).

²⁰ καὶ (And) ἐπιάσθη (was captured) τὸ (the) θηρίον (beast), καὶ (and) μετ’ (with) αὐτοῦ (him) ὁ (the) ψευδοπροφήτης (false prophet), ὁ (the one) ποιήσας (having done) τὰ (the) σημεῖα (signs) ἐνώπιον (before) αὐτοῦ (him), ἐν (by) οἷς (which) ἐπλάνησεν (he deceived) τοὺς (those) λαβόντας (having received) τὸ (the) χάραγμα (mark) τοῦ (of the) θηρίου (beast) καὶ (and) τοὺς (those) προσκυνοῦντας (worshiping) τῇ (the) εἰκόνι (image) αὐτοῦ (of it), ζῶντες (living) ἐβλήθησαν (were cast) οἱ (the) δύο (two) εἰς (into) τὴν (the) λίμνην (lake) τοῦ (-) πυρὸς (of fire), τῆς (-) καιομένης (burning) ἐν (with) θείῳ (brimstone).

⁸ Τοῖς (-) δὲ (But) δειλοῖς (to the cowardly) καὶ (and) ἀπίστοις (unbelieving) καὶ (and) ἐβδελυγμένοις (having become abominable) καὶ (and) φονεῦσιν (murderers) καὶ (and) πόρνοις (the sexually immoral) καὶ (and) φαρμάκοις (sorcerers) καὶ (and) εἰδωλολάτραις (idolaters) καὶ (and) πᾶσιν (all) τοῖς (-) ψευδέσιν (liars), τὸ (the) μέρος (portion) αὐτῶν (of them) ἐν (is in) τῇ (the) λίμνῃ (lake) τῇ (-) καιομένῃ (burning) πυρὶ (with fire) καὶ (and) θείῳ (brimstone), ὅ (which) ἐστιν (is) ὁ (the) θάνατος (death) ὁ (-) δεύτερος (second).”

²⁰ ὁ (the) πέμπτος (fifth) σαρδόνυξ (sardonyx), ὁ (the) ἕκτος (sixth) σάρδιον (sardius), ὁ (the) ἕβδομος (seventh) χρυσόλιθος (chrysolite), ὁ (the) ὄγδοος (eighth) βήρυλλος (beryl), ὁ (the) ἔνατος (ninth) τοπάζιον (topaz), ὁ (the) δέκατος (tenth) χρυσόπρασος (chrysoprase), ὁ (the) ἑνδέκατος (eleventh) ὑάκινθος (jacinth), ὁ (the) δωδέκατος (twelfth) ἀμέθυστος (amethyst).

¹⁴ ἵνα (so that) μηκέτι (no longer) ὦμεν (we might be) νήπιοι (infants), κλυδωνιζόμενοι (being tossed by waves) καὶ (and) περιφερόμενοι (being carried about) παντὶ (by every) ἀνέμῳ (wind) τῆς (-) διδασκαλίας (of teaching), ἐν (in) τῇ (the) κυβείᾳ* (cunning) τῶν (-) ἀνθρώπων (of men) ἐν (in) πανουργίᾳ (craftiness), πρὸς (with a view to) τὴν (the) μεθοδείαν (scheming) τῆς (-) πλάνης (of deceit).

³² ἦλθεν (Came) γὰρ (for) Ἰωάννης (John) πρὸς (to) ὑμᾶς (you) ἐν (in the) ὁδῷ (way) δικαιοσύνης (of righteousness), καὶ (and) οὐκ (not) ἐπιστεύσατε (you did believe) αὐτῷ (him), οἱ (-) δὲ (however) τελῶναι (the tax collectors) καὶ (and) αἱ (the) πόρναι (prostitutes) ἐπίστευσαν (believed) αὐτῷ (him); ὑμεῖς (you) δὲ (then), ἰδόντες (having seen), οὐδὲ (not even) μετεμελήθητε (did repent) ὕστερον (afterward) τοῦ (-) πιστεῦσαι (to believe) αὐτῷ (him).

⁴¹ Καὶ (And) ἐμοσχοποίησαν (they made a calf) ἐν (in) ταῖς (the) ἡμέραις (days) ἐκείναις (those) καὶ (and) ἀνήγαγον (offered) θυσίαν (a sacrifice) τῷ (to the) εἰδώλῳ (idol), καὶ (and) εὐφραίνοντο (they were rejoicing) ἐν (in) τοῖς (the) ἔργοις (works) τῶν (of the) χειρῶν (hands) αὐτῶν (of them).

²⁹ γένος (Offspring) οὖν (therefore) ὑπάρχοντες (being) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God), οὐκ (not) ὀφείλομεν (we ought) νομίζειν (to consider) χρυσῷ (to gold), ἢ (or) ἀργύρῳ (to silver), ἢ (or) λίθῳ (to stone), χαράγματι (a graven thing), τέχνης (of craft) καὶ (and) ἐνθυμήσεως (imagination) ἀνθρώπου (of man), τὸ (the) Θεῖον (Divine Being) εἶναι (to be) ὅμοιον (like).

²⁶ καὶ (And) θεωρεῖτε (you see) καὶ (and) ἀκούετε (hear) ὅτι (that) οὐ (not) μόνον (only) Ἐφέσου (in Ephesus), ἀλλὰ (but) σχεδὸν (almost) πάσης (all) τῆς (-) Ἀσίας (of Asia), ὁ (-) Παῦλος (Paul), οὗτος (this) πείσας (having persuaded them), μετέστησεν (has turned away) ἱκανὸν (a great many) ὄχλον (people), λέγων (saying) ὅτι (that) οὐκ (not) εἰσὶν (they are) θεοὶ (gods) οἱ (-) διὰ (by) χειρῶν (hands) γινόμενοι (being made).

²¹ Διότι (For) γνόντες (having known) τὸν (-) Θεὸν (God), οὐχ (not) ὡς (as) Θεὸν (God) ἐδόξασαν (they glorified Him), ἢ (or) ηὐχαρίστησαν (were thankful), ἀλλὰ (but) ἐματαιώθησαν (they became futile) ἐν (in) τοῖς (the) διαλογισμοῖς (thinking) αὐτῶν (of them), καὶ (and) ἐσκοτίσθη (was darkened) ἡ (the) ἀσύνετος (foolish) αὐτῶν (of them) καρδία (heart). ²² φάσκοντες (Professing) εἶναι (to be) σοφοὶ (wise), ἐμωράνθησαν (they became fools), ²³ καὶ (and) ἤλλαξαν (they changed) τὴν (the) δόξαν (glory) τοῦ (of the) ἀφθάρτου (immortal) Θεοῦ (God) ἐν (into) ὁμοιώματι (a likeness) εἰκόνος (of an image) φθαρτοῦ (of mortal) ἀνθρώπου (man) καὶ (and) πετεινῶν (birds) καὶ (and) τετραπόδων (quadrupeds) καὶ (and) ἑρπετῶν (creeping things).

²⁰ ἀλλ’ (Rather) ὅτι (that) ἃ (what) θύουσιν (sacrifice) (τὰ (the) ἔθνη) (Gentiles), δαιμονίοις (to demons) καὶ (and) οὐ (not) Θεῷ (to God) θύουσιν (they sacrifice). οὐ (Not) θέλω (I do wish) δὲ (now), ὑμᾶς (you) κοινωνοὺς (fellow partakers) τῶν (-) δαιμονίων (with demons) γίνεσθαι (to be). ²¹ οὐ (Not) δύνασθε (you are able) ποτήριον (the cup) Κυρίου (of the Lord) πίνειν (to drink), καὶ (and) ποτήριον (the cup) δαιμονίων (of demons). οὐ (Not) δύνασθε (you are able) τραπέζης (of the table) Κυρίου (of the Lord) μετέχειν (to partake), καὶ (and) τραπέζης (of the table) δαιμονίων (of demons).

²¹ μὴ (lest) πάλιν (again) ἐλθόντος (having come) μου (of me), ταπεινώσῃ (should humble) με (me) ὁ (the) Θεός (God) μου (of me) πρὸς (as to) ὑμᾶς (you), καὶ (and) πενθήσω (I should mourn over) πολλοὺς (many) τῶν (of those) προημαρτηκότων (having before sinned) καὶ (and) μὴ (not) μετανοησάντων (having repented) ἐπὶ (of) τῇ (the) ἀκαθαρσίᾳ (impurity) καὶ (and) πορνείᾳ (sexual immorality) καὶ (and) ἀσελγείᾳ (sensuality) ᾗ (that) ἔπραξαν (they have practiced).

¹ Τὸ (-) δὲ (But) πνεῦμα (the Spirit) ῥητῶς (expressly) λέγει (states) ὅτι (that) ἐν (in) ὑστέροις (later) καιροῖς (times), ἀποστήσονταί (will depart from) τινες (some) τῆς (the) πίστεως (faith), προσέχοντες (giving heed) πνεύμασιν (to spirits) πλάνοις (deceitful) καὶ (and) διδασκαλίαις (teachings) δαιμονίων (of demons),

²¹ καὶ (And) ἔδωκα (I have given) αὐτῇ (her) χρόνον (time) ἵνα (that) μετανοήσῃ (she might repent), καὶ (and) οὐ (not) θέλει (she is willing) μετανοῆσαι (to repent) ἐκ (of) τῆς (the) πορνείας (sexual immorality) αὐτῆς (of her). ²² Ἰδοὺ (Behold), βάλλω (I will cast) αὐτὴν (her) εἰς (into) κλίνην (a sickbed), καὶ (and) τοὺς (those) μοιχεύοντας (committing adultery) μετ’ (with) αὐτῆς (her) εἰς (into) θλῖψιν (tribulation) μεγάλην (great), ἐὰν (if) μὴ (not) μετανοήσωσιν* (they shall repent) ἐκ (of) τῶν (the) ἔργων (deeds) αὐτῆς (of her).

²¹ καὶ (And) οὐ (not) μετενόησαν (they repented) ἐκ (of) τῶν (the) φόνων (murders) αὐτῶν (of them), οὔτε (nor) ἐκ (of) τῶν (the) φαρμάκων (sorceries) αὐτῶν (of them), οὔτε (nor) ἐκ (of) τῆς (the) πορνείας (sexual immorality) αὐτῶν (of them), οὔτε (nor) ἐκ (of) τῶν (the) κλεμμάτων (thefts) αὐτῶν (of them).

⁸ Καὶ (And) ὁ (the) τέταρτος (fourth) ἐξέχεεν (poured out) τὴν (the) φιάλην (bowl) αὐτοῦ (of him) ἐπὶ (upon) τὸν (the) ἥλιον (sun), καὶ (and) ἐδόθη (there was given) αὐτῷ (to it) καυματίσαι (to scorch) τοὺς (-) ἀνθρώπους (men) ἐν (with) πυρί (fire).

¹⁹ ἐκ (Out of) γὰρ (for) τῆς (the) καρδίας (heart) ἐξέρχονται (come forth) διαλογισμοὶ (thoughts) πονηροί (evil), φόνοι (murders), μοιχεῖαι (adulteries), πορνεῖαι (sexual immorality), κλοπαί (thefts), ψευδομαρτυρίαι (false testimonies), βλασφημίαι (slanders).

²⁰ εἰδωλολατρία (idolatry), φαρμακεία (sorcery), ἔχθραι (enmities), ἔρις (strife), ζῆλος (jealousy), θυμοί (outbursts of anger), ἐριθεῖαι (contentions), διχοστασίαι (dissensions), αἱρέσεις (factions),

⁷ Καὶ (And) ὅταν (when) τελέσωσιν (they shall have completed) τὴν (the) μαρτυρίαν (testimony) αὐτῶν (of them), τὸ (the) θηρίον (beast) τὸ (-) ἀναβαῖνον (coming up) ἐκ (out of) τῆς (the) ἀβύσσου (abyss) ποιήσει (will make) μετ’ (with) αὐτῶν (them) πόλεμον (war), καὶ (and) νικήσει (will overcome) αὐτοὺς (them), καὶ (and) ἀποκτενεῖ (will kill) αὐτούς (them). ⁸ καὶ (And) τὸ (the) πτῶμα (body) αὐτῶν (of them) ἐπὶ (will be upon) τῆς (the) πλατείας (street) τῆς (of) πόλεως (city) τῆς (the) μεγάλης (great), ἥτις (which) καλεῖται (is called) πνευματικῶς (figuratively) Σόδομα (Sodom) καὶ (and) Αἴγυπτος (Egypt), ὅπου (where) καὶ (also) ὁ (the) Κύριος (Lord) αὐτῶν (of them) ἐσταυρώθη (was crucified). ⁹ καὶ (And) βλέπουσιν (gaze) ἐκ (those of) τῶν (the) λαῶν (peoples) καὶ (and) φυλῶν (tribes) καὶ (and) γλωσσῶν (tongues) καὶ (and) ἐθνῶν (nations) τὸ (upon the) πτῶμα (bodies) αὐτῶν (of them), ἡμέρας (days) τρεῖς (three) καὶ (and) ἥμισυ (a half), καὶ (and) τὰ (the) πτώματα (bodies) αὐτῶν (of them) οὐκ (not) ἀφίουσιν (they will allow) τεθῆναι (to be put) εἰς (into) μνῆμα (a tomb).

¹³ Καὶ (And) ποιεῖ (it works) σημεῖα (signs) μεγάλα (great), ἵνα (so that) καὶ (even) πῦρ (fire) ποιῇ (it should cause) ἐκ (out of) τοῦ (-) οὐρανοῦ (heaven) καταβαίνειν (to come down) εἰς (to) τὴν (the) γῆν (earth) ἐνώπιον (in the presence) τῶν (-) ἀνθρώπων (of men).

¹⁵ καὶ (And) ἐδόθη (there was given) αὐτῷ (to it) δοῦναι (to give) πνεῦμα (breath) τῇ (to the) εἰκόνι (image) τοῦ (of the) θηρίου (beast), ἵνα (so that) καὶ (also) λαλήσῃ (should speak) ἡ (the) εἰκὼν (image) τοῦ (of the) θηρίου (beast), καὶ (and) ποιήσῃ (should cause) ἵνα (that) ὅσοι (as many as) ἐὰν (if) μὴ (not) προσκυνήσωσιν (would worship) τῇ (the) εἰκόνι (image) τοῦ (of the) θηρίου (beast) ἀποκτανθῶσιν (would be killed).

⁸ Καὶ (And) ἄλλος (another) ἄγγελος (angel), δεύτερος (a second) ἠκολούθησεν (followed), λέγων (saying), “Ἔπεσεν (Fallen), ἔπεσεν (Fallen is) Βαβυλὼν (Babylon) ἡ (the) μεγάλη (great), ἣ (who) ἐκ (of) τοῦ (the) οἴνου (wine) τοῦ (-) θυμοῦ (of wrath) τῆς (for the) πορνείας (immorality) αὐτῆς (of her), πεπότικεν (she has given to drink) πάντα (all) τὰ (the) ἔθνη (Gentiles).”

⁶ ὅτι (because) αἷμα (the blood) ἁγίων (of saints) καὶ (and) προφητῶν (of prophets) ἐξέχεαν (they have poured out), καὶ (and) αἷμα (blood) αὐτοῖς (to them) δέδωκας (You have given) πιεῖν* (to drink); ἄξιοί (worthy) εἰσιν (they are).”

² μεθ’ (with) ἧς (whom) ἐπόρνευσαν (have committed sexual immorality) οἱ (the) βασιλεῖς (kings) τῆς (of the) γῆς (earth), καὶ (and) ἐμεθύσθησαν (have been made drunk) οἱ (those that) κατοικοῦντες (dwelling) τὴν (on the) γῆν (earth) ἐκ (with) τοῦ (the) οἴνου (wine) τῆς (of the) πορνείας (sexual immorality) αὐτῆς (of her).”

⁵ καὶ (And) ἐπὶ (upon) τὸ (the) μέτωπον (forehead) αὐτῆς (of her) ὄνομα (a name) γεγραμμένον (was written), μυστήριον (a mystery): ΒΑΒΥΛΩΝ (Babylon) Ο* (the) ΜΕΓΑΛΗ (Great), Ο* (the) ΜΗΤΗΡ (mother) ΤΩΝ (of the) ΠΟΡΝΩΝ (prostitutes), ΚΑΙ (and) ΤΩΝ (of the) ΒΔΕΛΥΓΜΑΤΩΝ (abominations) ΤΗΣ (of the) ΓΗΣ (earth).

³ ὅτι (For) ἐκ (of) τοῦ (the) οἴνου (wine) τοῦ (of the) θυμοῦ (wrath) τῆς (of the) πορνείας (sexual immorality) αὐτῆς (of her), πέπωκαν (have drunk) πάντα (all) τὰ (the) ἔθνη (nations); καὶ (and) οἱ (the) βασιλεῖς (kings) τῆς (of the) γῆς (earth) μετ’ (with) αὐτῆς (her) ἐπόρνευσαν (have committed sexual immorality); καὶ (and) οἱ (the) ἔμποροι (merchants) τῆς (of the) γῆς (earth) ἐκ (through) τῆς (the) δυνάμεως (power) τοῦ (of the) στρήνους (sensuality) αὐτῆς (of her) ἐπλούτησαν (have been enriched).”

²³ καὶ (And) φῶς (the light) λύχνου (of lamp), οὐ (no) μὴ (not) φάνῃ (shall shine) ἐν (in) σοὶ (you) ἔτι (any longer); καὶ (and) φωνὴ (the voice) νυμφίου (of a bridegroom) καὶ (and) νύμφης (a bride), οὐ (no) μὴ (not) ἀκουσθῇ (shall be heard) ἐν (in) σοὶ (you) ἔτι (any longer); ὅτι (for) οἱ (the) ἔμποροί (merchants) σου (of you) ἦσαν (were) οἱ (the) μεγιστᾶνες (great ones) τῆς (of the) γῆς (earth), ὅτι (because) ἐν (by) τῇ (the) φαρμακείᾳ (sorcery) σου (of you) ἐπλανήθησαν (were deceived) πάντα (all) τὰ (the) ἔθνη (nations).” ²⁴ Καὶ (And) ἐν (in) αὐτῇ (her) αἷμα (the blood) προφητῶν (of prophets) καὶ (and) ἁγίων (of saints) εὑρέθη (was found), καὶ (and) πάντων (of all) τῶν (those) ἐσφαγμένων (having been slain) ἐπὶ (on) τῆς (the) γῆς (earth).

² ὅτι (For) ἀληθιναὶ (true) καὶ (and) δίκαιαι (righteous are) αἱ (the) κρίσεις (judgments) αὐτοῦ (of Him), ὅτι (because) ἔκρινεν (He has judged) τὴν (the) πόρνην (prostitute) τὴν (-) μεγάλην (great), ἥτις (who) ἔφθειρεν (had corrupted) τὴν (the) γῆν (earth) ἐν (with) τῇ (the) πορνείᾳ (sexual immorality) αὐτῆς (of her), καὶ (and) ἐξεδίκησεν (He has avenged) τὸ (the) αἷμα (blood) τῶν (of the) δούλων (servants) αὐτοῦ (of Him), ἐκ (out of) χειρὸς (the hand) αὐτῆς (of her).”

¹⁵ ἔξω (Outside are) οἱ (the) κύνες (dogs), καὶ (and) οἱ (the) φάρμακοι (sorcerers), καὶ (and) οἱ (the) πόρνοι (sexually immoral), καὶ (and) οἱ (the) φονεῖς (murderers), καὶ (and) οἱ (the) εἰδωλολάτραι (idolaters), καὶ (and) πᾶς (everyone) φιλῶν (loving) καὶ (and) ποιῶν (practicing) ψεῦδος (falsehood).
