¹ Therefore we also, having such a great cloud of witnesses encompassing us, having laid aside every weight and the sin easily entangling, should run with endurance the race lying before us,

²² And you will be hated by all on account of My name; but the one having endured to the end, he will be saved.

³⁷ The one loving father or mother above Me is not worthy of Me, and the one loving son or daughter above Me is not worthy of Me. ³⁸ And he who does not take his cross and follow after Me is not worthy of Me.

¹³ But the one having endured to the end, he will be saved.

¹⁴ And that having fallen into the thorns, these are those having heard, and moving along are choked under the cares and riches and pleasures of life, and do not mature. ¹⁵ And that in the good soil, these are those who, having heard the word, keep it in a worthy and good heart and bring forth fruit by perseverance.

⁵⁹ And He said to another, “Follow Me.” But he said, “Lord, allow me first, having gone away, to bury my father.” ⁶⁰ And He said to him, “Leave the dead to bury their own dead; but you, having gone forth, declare the kingdom of God.” ⁶¹ And another also said, “I will follow You, Lord; but first allow me to bid farewell to those at my home.” ⁶² And Jesus said to him, “No one having laid the hand upon the plow, and looking on the things behind, is fit for the kingdom of God.”

¹⁵ And He said to them, “Beware, and keep yourselves from all covetousness; for not to anyone is his life in the abundance of that which he possesses.”

²⁶ “If anyone comes to Me, and does not hate his father and mother and wife and children and brothers and sisters and yes, even his life, he is not able to be My disciple. ²⁷ Whoever does not carry his cross and come after Me is not able to be My disciple. ²⁸ For which of you, desiring to build a tower, does not first, having sat down, count the cost, whether he has enough for its completion? ²⁹ Otherwise, he having laid its foundation and not being able to finish, all seeing it may begin to mock him, ³⁰ saying, ‘This man began to build and was not able to finish.’ ³¹ Or what king, proceeding to engage with another king in war, will not, having sat down, first take counsel whether he is able with ten thousand to meet the one coming against him with twenty thousand? ³² And if not, of him being still far off, having sent an embassy, he asks for peace. ³³ So therefore every one of you who does not give up all that he himself possesses, is not able to be My disciple.

²⁸ for I have five brothers—so that he might warn them, that they also might not come to this place of torment.’

²² And having heard, Jesus said to him, “To you, yet one thing is lacking: Sell all, as much as you have, and distribute to the poor, and you will have treasure in the heavens; and come, follow Me.” ²³ And having heard these things, he became very sorrowful; for he was extremely rich. ²⁴ And having seen him, Jesus became sorrowful, saying, “How difficultly those having riches shall enter into the kingdom of God. ²⁵ For it is easier for a camel to go through an eye of a needle, than a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God.”

³⁴ And take heed to yourselves, lest your hearts ever be burdened with dissipation and drunkenness and the cares of life—and that day would come upon you suddenly as a snare.

³² What He has seen and heard, this He testifies, but no one receives His testimony.

³⁹ And out of that city, many of the Samaritans believed in Him, because of the word of the woman testifying, “He told me all things I ever did.”

⁴⁴ For Jesus Himself testified that a prophet has no honor in the own hometown.

⁷ to those who indeed with endurance in good work are seeking glory and honor and immortality, eternal life;

³ And not only so, but also we glory in our tribulations, knowing that tribulation produces perseverance; ⁴ and perseverance, character; and character, hope. ⁵ And hope does not make us ashamed, because the love of God has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, the One having been given to us.

²⁴ For in this hope we were saved; but hope being seen is no hope; for does anyone hope for what he sees? ²⁵ But if we hope for what we do not see, we await in patience.

¹² rejoicing in hope, being patient in tribulation, being constant in prayer,

¹¹ And do this knowing the time, that it is already the hour for you to awaken out of sleep; for our salvation is nearer now than when first we believed. ¹² The night is nearly over, and the day has drawn near; therefore we should cast off the works of darkness and should put on the armor of light. ¹³ We should walk properly, as in daytime; not in reveling and drinking, not in sexual immorality and sensuality, not in dissension and jealousy. ¹⁴ But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the desires of the flesh.

²⁴ Do you not know that those running in a race course, indeed all run, but one receives the prize? Run thus, that you might obtain it. ²⁵ Now everyone striving controls himself in all things; then indeed they, that they might receive a perishable crown; but we, an imperishable. ²⁶ Therefore I run thus, not as uncertainly; I fight thus, not as beating the air. ²⁷ But I batter my body and bring it into servitude, lest having preached to others, I myself might be disqualified.

¹ Therefore having these promises, beloved, we should cleanse ourselves from every defilement of flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.

⁷ You were running well. Who hindered you, not to obey the truth?

²² You are to have put off, concerning the former way of life, the old man, which is being corrupted according to its desires of deceit, ²³ and to be renewed in the spirit of your mind, ²⁴ and to have put on the new man, having been created according to God in righteousness and holiness of truth.

¹⁶ holding forth the word of life unto a boast to me in the day of Christ that I did not run in vain nor toil in vain.

¹⁰ to know Him and the power of His resurrection and the fellowship of His sufferings, being conformed to His death, ¹¹ if, by any means, I may attain to the resurrection from out of dead. ¹² Not that already I have obtained it or already have been perfected, but I am pursuing, if also I may lay hold of that for which also I was laid hold of by Christ Jesus. ¹³ Brothers, I do not consider myself to have taken hold of it. But one thing indeed: Forgetting the things behind and reaching forward to the things ahead, ¹⁴ I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward calling of God in Christ Jesus.

⁵ Therefore put to death the members which are upon the earth: sexual immorality, impurity, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry, ⁶ because of which things the wrath of God is coming on the sons of disobedience, ⁷ in which you also once walked when you were living in them. ⁸ But now you also put off all these things: anger, rage, malice, slander, foul language out of your mouth.

⁹ But those desiring to be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and many foolish and harmful desires, which plunge men into ruin and destruction. ¹⁰ For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evils, which some, stretching after, have been seduced away from the faith and have pierced themselves with many sorrows.

⁴ No one serving as a soldier entangles himself in the affairs of this life, that he might please the one having enlisted him.

⁷ I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.

¹⁵ And thus having waited patiently, he obtained the promise.

³⁵ Therefore do not throw away your confidence, which has a great reward. ³⁶ For you have need of endurance, so that, having done the will of God, you may receive the promise. ³⁷ For “Yet in a very while little, the One coming will come, and will not delay. ³⁸ But My righteous one will live by faith; and if he might shrink back, My soul does not take pleasure in him.” ³⁹ But we are not of those drawing back to destruction, but of faith to the preserving of the soul.

² For in this the ancients were commended. ³ By faith we understand the universe to have been formed by the word of God, so that the things being seen have not been made from the things being visible. ⁴ By faith Abel offered to God a more excellent sacrifice than Cain, through which he was testified to be righteous, God bearing witness to his gifts; and through it, having died, he still speaks. ⁵ By faith Enoch was translated not to see death, and he was not found, because God had taken him up. For before the translation, he was commended to have pleased God. ⁶ And without faith, it is impossible to please Him. For it behooves the one drawing near to God to believe that He exists and that He becomes a rewarder to those earnestly seeking Him out. ⁷ By faith Noah, having been divinely instructed concerning the things not yet seen, having been moved with fear, prepared an ark for the salvation of his household, by which he condemned the world and became heir of the righteousness that is according to faith. ⁸ By faith Abraham, being called to go out into a place that he was going to receive for an inheritance, obeyed and went out, not knowing where he is going. ⁹ By faith he sojourned in the land of the promise, as in a foreign country, having dwelt in tents with Isaac and Jacob, the joint-heirs of the same promise. ¹⁰ For he was awaiting the city having foundations, of which the architect and builder is God. ¹¹ By faith also Sarah, herself barren, received power for the conception of seed, even beyond the opportune age, since she considered the One having promised faithful. ¹² Therefore also were born from one man, and he having been as good as dead, as the stars of heaven in multitude, and countless as the sand by the shore of the sea. ¹³ These all died in faith, not having received the promises, but having seen them from afar, and having embraced them, and having confessed that they are strangers and sojourners on the earth. ¹⁴ For those saying such things make manifest that they are seeking their own country. ¹⁵ And indeed if they had been remembering that from where they came out, they would have had opportunity to return. ¹⁶ But now they stretch forward to a better one, that is, a heavenly one. Therefore God is not ashamed of them, to be called their God; for He has prepared a city for them. ¹⁷ By faith Abraham, being tested, has offered up Isaac. Even the one having received the promises was offering up his only begotten son, ¹⁸ as to whom it was said, “In Isaac your offspring will be reckoned,” ¹⁹ having reasoned that God was able even to raise him out from the dead, from where he received him also in a simile. ²⁰ By faith also Isaac blessed Jacob and Esau concerning the things coming. ²¹ By faith Jacob, dying, blessed each of the sons of Joseph and worshiped on the top of his staff. ²² By faith Joseph, dying, made mention concerning the exodus of the sons of Israel and gave instructions concerning his bones. ²³ By faith Moses, having been born, was hidden three months by his parents, because they saw the little child was beautiful, and they did not fear the edict of the king. ²⁴ By faith Moses, having become grown, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh’s daughter, ²⁵ having chosen to suffer affliction with the people of God, rather than to have the fleeting enjoyment of sin, ²⁶ having esteemed the reproach of Christ greater wealth than the treasures of Egypt; for he was looking toward the reward. ²⁷ By faith he left Egypt, not having feared the anger of the king; for he persevered, as seeing the Invisible One. ²⁸ By faith he has kept the Passover and the sprinkling of the blood, so that the one destroying the firstborn would not touch them. ²⁹ By faith they passed through the Red Sea as through dry land, which the Egyptians, an attempt having made, were swallowed up. ³⁰ By faith the walls of Jericho fell, having been encircled for seven days. ³¹ By faith Rahab the prostitute did not perish with those having disobeyed, having received the spies with peace. ³² And what more shall I say? For the time will fail me, telling of Gideon, Barak, Samson, Jephthah, also David, and Samuel, and the prophets, ³³ who by faith conquered kingdoms, administered justice, obtained promises; shut the mouths of lions, ³⁴ quenched the power of fire, escaped the mouths of the sword; acquired strength out of weakness, became mighty in war, put to flight foreign armies. ³⁵ Women received back their dead by resurrection; and others were tortured, not having accepted release, so that they might obtain a better resurrection. ³⁶ And others received the trial of mockings and of scourgings, and in addition, of chains and imprisonment. ³⁷ They were stoned, they were sawed in two, they were killed by slaughter of the sword; they wandered in sheepskins, in goatskins, being destitute, being oppressed, being mistreated; ³⁸ of whom the world was not worthy; wandering in deserts, and mountains, and caves, and holes of the earth.

³ knowing that testing of your faith produces endurance.

⁷ Therefore be patient, brothers, until the coming of the Lord. Behold, the farmer awaits the precious fruit of the earth, being patient for it until it receives the early and latter rains. ⁸ You also be patient; strengthen your hearts, because the coming of the Lord has drawn near. ⁹ Do not grumble against one another, brothers, so that you may not be condemned. Behold, the Judge is standing before the doors. ¹⁰ Brothers as an example of suffering evils and of patience, take the prophets who spoke in the name of the Lord. ¹¹ Behold, we count blessed those having persevered. You have heard of the perseverance of Job, and you have seen the outcome from the Lord, that the Lord is full of compassion and is merciful.

¹ Therefore having put aside all malice, and all deceit, and hypocrisy, and envies, and all evil speakings,

² so as to live the remaining time in the flesh no longer to men’s desires, but to the will of God.

¹² Through Silvanus, the faithful brother as I regard him, I have written to you through few words, exhorting and testifying this to be the true grace of God, in which you stand.

⁶ and into knowledge self-control, and into self-control endurance, and into endurance godliness,

¹⁵ Do not love the world nor the things in the world. If anyone should love the world, the love of the Father is not in him, ¹⁶ because all that is in the world, the desire of the flesh and the desire of the eyes and the vaunting of life, is not from the Father, but is from the world.

⁹ I John, your brother and fellow-partaker in the tribulation and kingdom and perseverance in Jesus, was in the island called Patmos on account of the word of God and the testimony of Jesus.

¹⁰ Because you have kept the word of My patient endurance, I also will keep you out of the hour of the trial being about to come upon the whole inhabited world, to try those dwelling upon the earth.

¹⁰ “If anyone is to go into captivity, into captivity he goes; If anyone is to be killed with the sword, by the sword it is necessary for him to be killed.” Here is the endurance and the faith of the saints.

¹⁶ “I, Jesus, have sent My angel to testify to all of you these things in the churches. I am the root and the offspring of David, the bright morning star.”
