²⁶ And He said to him, “What has been written in the Law? How do you read it?”

¹⁹ Now we know that whatever the Law says, it speaks to those under the Law, so that every mouth may be stopped, and the whole world may be under judgment to God.

¹⁴ For if those of the Law are heirs, faith has been made void and the promise made of no effect. ¹⁵ For Law brings wrath; and where there is no Law, neither is transgression. ¹⁶ Therefore it is of faith, that it may be according to grace, for the promise to be sure to all the seed, not only to that of the Law, but also to that of the faith of Abraham, who is the father of us of all—

⁵ For Moses writes of the righteousness that is of the Law that “The man having done these things will live by them.”

¹² But the Law is not of faith. Rather, “The one having done these things will live by them.” ¹³ Christ redeemed us from the curse of the Law, having become a curse for us—for it has been written: “Cursed is everyone hanging on a tree”—

²¹ Is the Law therefore contrary to the promises of God? Never may it be! For if a law had been given being able to impart life, then righteousness indeed would have emerged from out of the Law. ²² But the Scripture imprisoned all things under sin, so that by faith from Jesus Christ, the promise might be given to those believing.
