¹⁹ And one scribe, having approached Him, said “Teacher, I will follow You wherever that You should go.”

³² And the scribe said to Him, “Right, Teacher. You have spoken according to truth that He is One, and there is not another besides Him, ³³ and to love Him with all the heart and with all the understanding and with all the strength, and to love the neighbor as oneself is more important than all the burnt offerings and sacrifices.” ³⁴ And Jesus, having seen him that he answered wisely, said to him, “You are not far from the kingdom of God.” And no one dared to question Him any longer.

⁵⁷ And as they were going along the road, someone said to Him, “I will follow You wherever You may go.” ⁵⁸ And Jesus said to him, “The foxes have holes, and the birds of the air nests; but the Son of Man has nowhere He might lay the head.” ⁵⁹ And He said to another, “Follow Me.” But he said, “Lord, allow me first, having gone away, to bury my father.” ⁶⁰ And He said to him, “Leave the dead to bury their own dead; but you, having gone forth, declare the kingdom of God.”

²⁵ And great crowds were going with Him, and having turned, He said to them, ²⁶ “If anyone comes to Me, and does not hate his father and mother and wife and children and brothers and sisters and yes, even his life, he is not able to be My disciple. ²⁷ Whoever does not carry his cross and come after Me is not able to be My disciple.

³³ So therefore every one of you who does not give up all that he himself possesses, is not able to be My disciple.

³³ And he said to Him, “Lord, I am ready to go with You both to prison and to death.” ³⁴ And He said, “I tell you Peter, the rooster will not crow today until you will deny three times knowing Me.”

³⁶ Simon Peter says to Him, “Lord, where are You going?” Jesus answered him, “Where I go, you are not able to follow Me now, but you will follow afterward.” ³⁷ Peter says to Him, “Lord, why am I not able to follow You presently? I will lay down my life for You.” ³⁸ Jesus answered, “Will you lay down your life for Me? Truly, truly, I say to you, the rooster will not crow until you will deny Me three times.

²⁰ Where is the wise man? Where is the scribe? Where is the debater of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world?
