³ And not only so, but also we glory in our tribulations, knowing that tribulation produces perseverance;

¹⁰ Blessed are those having been persecuted on account of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of the heavens. ¹¹ Blessed are you when they shall insult you and shall persecute you, and lying shall say all kinds of evil against you on account of Me. ¹² Rejoice and exult, because great is your reward in the heavens; for thus they persecuted the prophets before you.

²² Blessed are you when men shall hate you, and when they shall exclude you, and shall insult you, and shall cast out your name as evil, on account of the Son of Man. ²³ Rejoice in that day, and leap for joy; for behold, your reward is great in heaven. For their fathers according to these things used to treat the prophets likewise.

¹⁹ By your patient endurance, you will gain your souls.

⁴¹ Therefore indeed they departed from the presence of the Council, rejoicing that they had been counted worthy to suffer dishonor for the Name.

³⁵ Who will separate us from the love of Christ? Will tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or danger, or sword? ³⁶ As it has been written: “For Your sake we face death all the day; we were regarded as sheep of slaughter.” ³⁷ But in all these things, we more than conquer through the One having loved us.

¹⁷ For the momentary lightness of our affliction is producing for us an eternal weight of glory, far surpassing to excessiveness.

²³ Are they servants of Christ? I speak as being beside myself, I too above measure: more abundantly in labors, more abundantly in imprisonments, in beatings above measure, in deaths often. ²⁴ Five times I received from the Jews the forty lashes minus one. ²⁵ Three times I was beaten with rods, once I was stoned, three times I was shipwrecked. I have passed a night and a day in the deep sea; ²⁶ in journeyings often, in perils of rivers, in perils of robbers; in perils from my own race, in perils from the Gentiles; in perils in the city, in perils in the wilderness; in perils on the sea, in perils among false brothers; ²⁷ in labor and toil, often in watchings; in hunger and thirst, often in fastings; in cold and nakedness. ²⁸ Besides the external things, the pressure on me on every day is my care for all the churches. ²⁹ Who is weak, and I am not weak? Who is led into sin, and I do not burn inwardly? ³⁰ If it behooves me to boast, I will boast in the things of my weakness.

⁹ And He said to me, “My grace suffices you, for the power is perfected in weakness.” Therefore will I boast rather most gladly in my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me. ¹⁰ Therefore I take pleasure in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, and difficulties for Christ; for when I might be weak, then I am strong.

¹³ Therefore I implore you not to lose heart at my tribulations for you, which is your glory.

²⁹ For it has been granted to you concerning Christ, not only to believe in Him but also to suffer concerning Him,

¹⁷ But even if I am being poured out as a drink offering on the sacrifice and service of your faith, I am glad and rejoice with you all. ¹⁸ And likewise you also be glad and rejoice with me.

¹⁰ For truly they were disciplining us for a few days, according to that seeming good to them; but He for our benefitting, in order to share His holiness. ¹¹ And all discipline indeed for those being present, does not seem to be of joy, but of grief; but afterward it yields the peaceable fruit of righteousness to those having been trained by it.

² Esteem it all joy, my brothers, when you might fall into various trials, ³ knowing that testing of your faith produces endurance.

¹² Blessed is the man who endures trial, because, having been approved, he will receive the crown of life that He has promised to those loving Him.

¹⁴ But even if you should suffer because of righteousness, you are blessed. “And you should not be afraid of their threats, neither should you be troubled.”

¹⁶ but if as a Christian, let him not be ashamed, but let him glorify God in this name. ¹⁷ For it is the time for the judgment to have begun from the house of God; and if from us first, what will be the outcome of those disobeying the gospel of God?
