⁹ In all cases of illegal possession of an ox, a donkey, a sheep, a garment, or any lost item that someone claims, ‘This is mine,’ both parties shall bring their cases before the judges. The one whom the judges find guilty must pay back double to his neighbor.

²¹ Furthermore, select capable men from among the people—God-fearing, trustworthy men who are averse to dishonest gain. Appoint them over the people as leaders of thousands, of hundreds, of fifties, and of tens. ²² Have these men judge the people at all times. Then they can bring you any major issue, but all minor cases they can judge on their own, so that your load may be lightened as they share it with you.

⁴ If what was stolen is actually found alive in his possession—whether ox or donkey or sheep—he must pay back double.

⁷ If a man gives his neighbor money or goods for safekeeping and they are stolen from the neighbor’s house, the thief, if caught, must pay back double. ⁸ If the thief is not found, the owner of the house must appear before the judges to determine whether he has taken his neighbor’s property.

²⁸ You must not blaspheme God or curse the ruler of your people.

⁶ You shall not deny justice to the poor in their lawsuits. ⁷ Stay far away from a false accusation. Do not kill the innocent or the just, for I will not acquit the guilty. ⁸ Do not accept a bribe, for a bribe blinds those who see and twists the words of the righteous.

⁶ “Tell the Israelites that when a man or woman acts unfaithfully against the LORD by committing any sin against another, that person is guilty ⁷ and must confess the sin he has committed. He must make full restitution, add a fifth to its value, and give all this to the one he has wronged.

¹⁸ You are to appoint judges and officials for your tribes in every town that the LORD your God is giving you. They are to judge the people with righteous judgment. ¹⁹ Do not deny justice or show partiality. Do not accept a bribe, for a bribe blinds the eyes of the wise and twists the words of the righteous.

¹ If there is a dispute between men, they are to go to court to be judged, so that the innocent may be acquitted and the guilty condemned.

³¹ When a man sins against his neighbor and is required to take an oath, and he comes to take an oath before Your altar in this temple,

¹⁰ For every dispute that comes before you from your brothers who dwell in their cities—whether it regards bloodshed or some other violation of law, commandments, statutes, or ordinances—you are to warn them, so that they will not incur guilt before the LORD and wrath will not come upon you and your brothers. Do this, and you will not incur guilt.

¹⁴ For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. ¹⁵ But if you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive yours.

¹⁵ If your brother sins against you, go and confront him privately. If he listens to you, you have won your brother over.

³⁵ That is how My heavenly Father will treat each of you unless you forgive your brother from your heart.”

³ Watch yourselves. If your brother sins, rebuke him; and if he repents, forgive him. ⁴ Even if he sins against you seven times in a day, and seven times returns to say, ‘I repent,’ you must forgive him.”
