I am dreaded by my friends—they flee when they see me on the street. ¹² I am forgotten like a dead man, out of mind. I am like a broken vessel. ¹³ For I hear the slander of many; there is terror on every side. They conspire against me and plot to take my life. ¹⁴ But I trust in You, O LORD; I say, “You are my God.” ¹⁵ My times are in Your hands; deliver me from my enemies and from those who pursue me. ¹⁶ Make Your face shine on Your servant; save me by Your loving devotion. ¹⁷ O LORD, let me not be ashamed, for I have called on You. Let the wicked be put to shame; let them lie silent in Sheol. ¹⁸ May lying lips be silenced—lips that speak with arrogance against the righteous, full of pride and contempt. ¹⁹ How great is Your goodness which You have laid up for those who fear You, which You have bestowed before the sons of men on those who take refuge in You! ²⁰ You hide them in the secret place of Your presence from the schemes of men. You conceal them in Your shelter from accusing tongues. ²¹ Blessed be the LORD, for He has shown me His loving devotion in a city under siege. ²² In my alarm I said, “I am cut off from Your sight!” But You heard my plea for mercy when I called to You for help. ²³ Love the LORD, all His saints. The LORD preserves the faithful, but fully repays the arrogant. ²⁴ Be strong and courageous, all you who hope in the LORD.

⁸ The LORD judges the peoples; vindicate me, O LORD, according to my righteousness and integrity. ⁹ Put an end to the evil of the wicked, but establish the righteous, O righteous God who searches hearts and minds.

⁴ In You our fathers trusted; they trusted and You delivered them. ⁵ They cried out to You and were set free; they trusted in You and were not disappointed.

² in You, my God, I trust. Do not let me be put to shame; do not let my enemies exult over me.

¹ Vindicate me, O God, and plead my case against an ungodly nation; deliver me from deceitful and unjust men.

¹ In You, O LORD, I have taken refuge; let me never be put to shame. ² In Your justice, rescue and deliver me; incline Your ear and save me. ³ Be my rock of refuge, where I can always go. Give the command to save me, for You are my rock and my fortress.

¹ A Psalm of David. O LORD, hear my prayer. In Your faithfulness, give ear to my plea; in Your righteousness, answer me.

¹¹ For the sake of Your name, O LORD, revive me. In Your righteousness, bring my soul out of trouble. ¹² And in Your loving devotion, cut off my enemies. Destroy all who afflict me, for I am Your servant.

²³ Kings will be your foster fathers, and their queens your nursing mothers. They will bow to you facedown and lick the dust at your feet. Then you will know that I am the LORD; those who hope in Me will never be put to shame.”

¹⁶ O Lord, in keeping with all Your righteous acts, I pray that Your anger and wrath may turn away from Your city Jerusalem, Your holy mountain; for because of our sins and the iniquities of our fathers, Jerusalem and Your people are a reproach to all around us.

⁵ And hope does not disappoint us, because God has poured out His love into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, whom He has given us.

¹¹ It is just as the Scripture says: “Anyone who believes in Him will never be put to shame.”

³¹ For their rock is not like our Rock, even our enemies concede.

³ My God is my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield, and the horn of my salvation. My stronghold, my refuge, and my Savior, You save me from violence.

²¹ Why do You not pardon my transgression and take away my iniquity? For soon I will lie down in the dust; You will seek me, but I will be no more.”

¹ For the choirmaster. Of David the servant of the LORD, who sang this song to the LORD on the day the LORD had delivered him from the hand of all his enemies and from the hand of Saul. He said: I love You, O LORD, my strength. ² The LORD is my rock, my fortress, and my deliverer. My God is my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.

¹⁷ But I am poor and needy; may the Lord think of me. You are my helper and deliverer; O my God, do not delay.

⁷ My salvation and my honor rest on God, my strong rock; my refuge is in God.

¹⁷ Hide not Your face from Your servant, for I am in distress. Answer me quickly!

¹ A Psalm of Asaph. The nations, O God, have invaded Your inheritance; they have defiled Your holy temple and reduced Jerusalem to rubble.

¹ A prayer of David. Incline Your ear, O LORD, and answer me, for I am poor and needy.

¹ A prayer of Moses the man of God. Lord, You have been our dwelling place through all generations.

⁹ Because you have made the LORD your dwelling—my refuge, the Most High—

²² But the LORD has been my stronghold, and my God is my rock of refuge.

² Do not hide Your face from me in my day of distress. Incline Your ear to me; answer me quickly when I call.

² O Lord, hear my voice; let Your ears be attentive to my plea for mercy.

⁷ Answer me quickly, O LORD; my spirit fails. Do not hide Your face from me, or I will be like those who descend to the Pit.

¹⁷ Incline your ear and hear the words of the wise—apply your mind to my knowledge—

¹⁶ he will dwell on the heights; the mountain fortress will be his refuge; his food will be provided and his water assured.

⁸ I tell you, He will promptly carry out justice on their behalf. Nevertheless, when the Son of Man comes, will He find faith on earth?”

⁵⁶ Whoever eats My flesh and drinks My blood remains in Me, and I in him.

¹² No one has ever seen God; but if we love one another, God remains in us, and His love is perfected in us.

¹⁵ If anyone confesses that Jesus is the Son of God, God abides in him, and he in God. ¹⁶ And we have come to know and believe the love that God has for us. God is love; whoever abides in love abides in God, and God in him.

⁹ When the Canaanites and all who live in the land hear about this, they will surround us and wipe out our name from the earth. Then what will You do for Your great name?”

¹² You led them with a pillar of cloud by day and a pillar of fire by night, to light for them the way in which they should travel.

¹⁹ You in Your great compassion did not forsake them in the wilderness. By day the pillar of cloud never turned away from guiding them on their path; and by the night the pillar of fire illuminated the way they should go.

² The LORD is my rock, my fortress, and my deliverer. My God is my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.

² He makes me lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside quiet waters. ³ He restores my soul; He guides me in the paths of righteousness for the sake of His name.

⁵ Guide me in Your truth and teach me, for You are the God of my salvation; all day long I wait for You.

⁹ He guides the humble in what is right and teaches them His way.

¹¹ For the sake of Your name, O LORD, forgive my iniquity, for it is great.

³ Send out Your light and Your truth; let them lead me. Let them bring me to Your holy mountain, and to the place where You dwell.

⁹ Help us, O God of our salvation, for the glory of Your name; deliver us and atone for our sins, for the sake of Your name.

²⁴ See if there is any offensive way in me; lead me in the way everlasting.

¹⁰ Teach me to do Your will, for You are my God. May Your good Spirit lead me on level ground. ¹¹ For the sake of Your name, O LORD, revive me. In Your righteousness, bring my soul out of trouble.

¹⁰ They will not hunger or thirst, nor will scorching heat or sun beat down on them. For He who has compassion on them will guide them and lead them beside springs of water.

⁷ Although our iniquities testify against us, O LORD, act for the sake of Your name. Indeed, our rebellions are many; we have sinned against You.

²¹ But I had concern for My holy name, which the house of Israel had profaned among the nations to which they had gone. ²² Therefore tell the house of Israel that this is what the Lord GOD says: It is not for your sake that I will act, O house of Israel, but for My holy name, which you profaned among the nations to which you went.

⁷⁹ to shine on those who live in darkness and in the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the path of peace.”

¹³ However, when the Spirit of truth comes, He will guide you into all truth. For He will not speak on His own, but He will speak what He hears, and He will declare to you what is to come.

¹² in order that we, who were the first to hope in Christ, would be for the praise of His glory.

¹⁴ May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be pleasing in Your sight, O LORD, my Rock and my Redeemer.

¹⁵ My eyes are always on the LORD, for He will free my feet from the mesh.

⁷ For without cause they laid their net for me; without reason they dug a pit for my soul.

⁶ They spread a net for my feet; my soul was despondent. They dug a pit before me, but they themselves have fallen into it! Selah

⁷ We have escaped like a bird from the snare of the fowler; the net is torn, and we have slipped away.

⁵ The proud hide a snare for me; the cords of their net are spread along the path, and lures are set out for me. Selah

⁵ A man who flatters his neighbor spreads a net for his feet.

⁹ But He said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for My power is perfected in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly in my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest on me.

²⁶ Then they will come to their senses and escape the snare of the devil, who has taken them captive to his will.

¹⁶ the angel who has redeemed me from all harm—may He bless these boys. And may they be called by my name and the names of my fathers Abraham and Isaac, and may they grow into a multitude upon the earth.”

⁴⁸ he retains the right of redemption after he has sold himself. One of his brothers may redeem him:

⁴ He is the Rock, His work is perfect; all His ways are just. A God of faithfulness without injustice, righteous and upright is He.

²³ When I sing praise to You my lips will shout for joy, along with my soul, which You have redeemed.

⁸ And He will redeem Israel from all iniquity.

² Why was no one there when I arrived? Why did no one answer when I called? Is My hand too short to redeem you? Or do I lack the strength to deliver you? Behold, My rebuke dries up the sea; I turn the rivers into a desert; the fish rot for lack of water and die of thirst.

⁴⁶ Then Jesus called out in a loud voice, “Father, into Your hands I commit My Spirit.” And when He had said this, He breathed His last.

⁵⁹ While they were stoning him, Stephen appealed, “Lord Jesus, receive my spirit.”

¹² For this reason, even though I suffer as I do, I am not ashamed; for I know whom I have believed, and I am convinced that He is able to guard what I have entrusted to Him for that day.

¹³ if we are faithless, He remains faithful, for He cannot deny Himself.

² in the hope of eternal life, which God, who cannot lie, promised before time began.

¹⁴ He gave Himself for us to redeem us from all lawlessness and to purify for Himself a people for His own possession, zealous for good deeds.

¹⁸ Thus by two unchangeable things in which it is impossible for God to lie, we who have fled to take hold of the hope set before us may be strongly encouraged.

¹⁸ For you know that it was not with perishable things such as silver or gold that you were redeemed from the empty way of life you inherited from your forefathers, ¹⁹ but with the precious blood of Christ, a lamb without blemish or spot.

⁹ And they sang a new song: “Worthy are You to take the scroll and open its seals, because You were slain, and by Your blood You purchased for God those from every tribe and tongue and people and nation.

²⁸ Ascribe to the LORD, O families of the nations, ascribe to the LORD glory and strength. ²⁹ Ascribe to the LORD the glory due His name; bring an offering and come before Him. Worship the LORD in the splendor of His holiness;

⁴ He who has clean hands and a pure heart, who does not lift up his soul to an idol or swear deceitfully.

⁵ I hate the mob of evildoers, and refuse to sit with the wicked.

⁷ Ascribe to the LORD, O families of the nations, ascribe to the LORD glory and strength. ⁸ Ascribe to the LORD the glory due His name; bring an offering and enter His courts. ⁹ Worship the LORD in the splendor of His holiness; tremble before Him, all the earth.

² You know when I sit and when I rise; You understand my thoughts from afar.

⁸ But they are altogether senseless and foolish, instructed by worthless idols made of wood!

¹⁵ They are worthless, a work to be mocked. In the time of their punishment they will perish.

⁸ Those who cling to worthless idols forsake His loving devotion.

⁸ “Now draw some out,” He said, “and take it to the master of the banquet.” They did so,

²¹ For although they knew God, they neither glorified Him as God nor gave thanks to Him, but they became futile in their thinking and darkened in their foolish hearts.

⁴ So about eating food sacrificed to idols: We know that an idol is nothing at all in the world, and that there is no God but one.

²⁰ No, but the sacrifices of pagans are offered to demons, not to God. And I do not want you to be participants with demons.

³² So now, our God, the great and mighty and awesome God who keeps His gracious covenant, do not view lightly all the hardship that has come upon us, and upon our kings and leaders, our priests and prophets, our ancestors and all Your people, from the days of the kings of Assyria until today.

⁹ Please remember that You molded me like clay. Would You now return me to dust?

¹⁰ Yet He knows the way I have taken; when He has tested me, I will come forth as gold.

⁶ For the LORD guards the path of the righteous, but the way of the wicked will perish.

¹³ Be merciful to me, O LORD; see how my enemies afflict me! Lift me up from the gates of death,

¹⁴ But You have regarded trouble and grief; You see to repay it by Your hand. The victim entrusts himself to You; You are the helper of the fatherless.

⁵ But I have trusted in Your loving devotion; my heart will rejoice in Your salvation.

¹⁸ Consider my affliction and trouble, and take away all my sins.

²⁰ Though You have shown me many troubles and misfortunes, You will revive me once again. Even from the depths of the earth You will bring me back up.

¹⁴ Satisfy us in the morning with Your loving devotion, that we may sing for joy and be glad all our days.

¹⁵³ Look upon my affliction and rescue me, for I have not forgotten Your law.

³ Although my spirit grows faint within me, You know my way. Along the path I travel they have hidden a snare for me.

² When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you go through the rivers, they will not overwhelm you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be scorched; the flames will not set you ablaze.

¹³ Shout for joy, O heavens; rejoice, O earth; break forth in song, O mountains! For the LORD has comforted His people, and He will have compassion on His afflicted ones.

⁹ In all their distress, He too was afflicted, and the Angel of His Presence saved them. In His love and compassion He redeemed them; He lifted them up and carried them all the days of old.

¹⁶ Yet You are our Father, though Abraham does not know us and Israel does not acknowledge us. You, O LORD, are our Father; our Redeemer from Everlasting is Your name.

¹¹ the sounds of joy and gladness, the voices of the bride and bridegroom, and the voices of those bringing thank offerings into the house of the LORD, saying: ‘Give thanks to the LORD of Hosts, for the LORD is good; His loving devotion endures forever.’ For I will restore the land from captivity as in former times, says the LORD.

⁵⁰ until the LORD looks down from heaven and sees.

¹ Remember, O LORD, what has happened to us. Look and see our disgrace!

²⁷ My sheep listen to My voice; I know them, and they follow Me. ²⁸ I give them eternal life, and they will never perish. No one can snatch them out of My hand. ²⁹ My Father who has given them to Me is greater than all. No one can snatch them out of My Father’s hand. ³⁰ I and the Father are one.”

³ But the one who loves God is known by God.

⁹ But now that you know God, or rather are known by God, how is it that you are turning back to those weak and worthless principles? Do you wish to be enslaved by them all over again?

¹⁹ Nevertheless, God’s firm foundation stands, bearing this seal: “The Lord knows those who are His,” and, “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord must turn away from iniquity.”

³⁰ How could one man pursue a thousand, or two put ten thousand to flight, unless their Rock had sold them, unless the LORD had given them up?

⁴⁶ This day the LORD will deliver you into my hand. This day I will strike you down, cut off your head, and give the carcasses of the Philistines to the birds of the air and the creatures of the earth. Then the whole world will know that there is a God in Israel.

¹⁸ And you have shown this day how well you have dealt with me; for when the LORD delivered me into your hand, you did not kill me.

⁸ Abishai said to David, “Today God has delivered your enemy into your hand. Now, therefore, please let me thrust the spear through him into the ground with one stroke. I will not need to strike him twice!”

¹¹ God has delivered me to unjust men; He has thrown me to the clutches of the wicked.

¹⁶ Indeed, He drew you from the jaws of distress to a spacious and broad place, to a table full of richness.

¹⁹ He brought me out into the open; He rescued me because He delighted in me.

⁸ You have removed my friends from me; You have made me repulsive to them; I am confined and cannot escape.

⁴ I will deliver the Egyptians into the hands of harsh masters, and a fierce king will rule over them,” declares the Lord GOD of Hosts.

⁷ My eyes have grown dim with grief, and my whole body is but a shadow.

¹⁹ A man is also chastened on his bed with pain and constant distress in his bones, ²⁰ so that he detests his bread, and his soul loathes his favorite food. ²¹ His flesh wastes away from sight, and his hidden bones protrude. ²² He draws near to the Pit, and his life to the messengers of death.

⁷ My eyes fail from grief; they grow dim because of all my foes.

¹⁴ I am poured out like water, and all my bones are disjointed. My heart is like wax; it melts away within me. ¹⁵ My strength is dried up like a potsherd, and my tongue sticks to the roof of my mouth. You lay me in the dust of death.

¹ A Psalm of David, for remembrance. O LORD, do not rebuke me in Your anger or discipline me in Your wrath. ² For Your arrows have pierced me deeply, and Your hand has pressed down on me. ³ There is no soundness in my body because of Your anger; there is no rest in my bones because of my sin. ⁴ For my iniquities have overwhelmed me; they are a burden too heavy to bear. ⁵ My wounds are foul and festering because of my sinful folly. ⁶ I am bent and brought low; all day long I go about mourning. ⁷ For my loins are full of burning pain, and no soundness remains in my body. ⁸ I am numb and badly crushed; I groan in anguish of heart. ⁹ O Lord, my every desire is before You; my groaning is not hidden from You. ¹⁰ My heart pounds, my strength fails, and even the light of my eyes has faded.

²⁵ For our soul has sunk to the dust; our bodies cling to the earth.

¹⁴ the vows that my lips promised and my mouth spoke in my distress.

¹⁴ For I am afflicted all day long and punished every morning.

²⁶ My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.

³ For my soul is full of troubles, and my life draws near to Sheol. ⁴ I am counted among those descending to the Pit. I am like a man without strength. ⁵ I am forsaken among the dead, like the slain who lie in the grave, whom You remember no more, who are cut off from Your care.

⁹ My eyes grow dim with grief. I call to You daily, O LORD; I spread out my hands to You.

³ For my days vanish like smoke, and my bones burn like glowing embers. ⁴ My heart is afflicted, and withered like grass; I even forget to eat my bread. ⁵ Through my loud groaning my flesh clings to my bones.

¹⁰ Some sat in darkness and in the shadow of death, prisoners in affliction and chains,

¹⁷ All the while our eyes were failing as we looked in vain for help. We watched from our towers for a nation that could not save us.

¹⁷ Because of this, our hearts are faint; because of these, our eyes grow dim—

²⁴ I sigh when food is put before me, and my groans pour out like water.

² How long must I wrestle in my soul, with sorrow in my heart each day? How long will my enemy dominate me?

³ When I kept silent, my bones became brittle from my groaning all day long. ⁴ For day and night Your hand was heavy upon me; my strength was drained as in the summer heat. Selah

³ There is no soundness in my body because of Your anger; there is no rest in my bones because of my sin.

¹¹ You discipline and correct a man for his iniquity, consuming like a moth what he holds dear; surely each man is but a vapor. Selah

⁹ Do not discard me in my old age; do not forsake me when my strength fails.

³³ So He ended their days in futility, and their years in sudden terror.

¹⁵ From my youth I was afflicted and near death. I have borne Your terrors; I am in despair.

³ For my days vanish like smoke, and my bones burn like glowing embers. ⁴ My heart is afflicted, and withered like grass; I even forget to eat my bread. ⁵ Through my loud groaning my flesh clings to my bones. ⁶ I am like a desert owl, like an owl among the ruins. ⁷ I lie awake; I am like a lone bird on a housetop. ⁸ All day long my enemies taunt me; they ridicule me and curse me. ⁹ For I have eaten ashes like bread and mixed my drink with tears ¹⁰ because of Your indignation and wrath, for You have picked me up and cast me aside. ¹¹ My days are like lengthening shadows, and I wither away like grass. ¹² But You, O LORD, sit enthroned forever; Your renown endures to all generations. ¹³ You will rise up and have compassion on Zion, for it is time to show her favor—the appointed time has come. ¹⁴ For Your servants delight in her stones and take pity on her dust. ¹⁵ So the nations will fear the name of the LORD, and all the kings of the earth will fear Your glory. ¹⁶ For the LORD will rebuild Zion; He has appeared in His glory. ¹⁷ He will turn toward the prayer of the destitute; He will not despise their prayer. ¹⁸ Let this be written for the generation to come, so that a people not yet created may praise the LORD. ¹⁹ For He looked down from the heights of His sanctuary; the LORD gazed out from heaven to earth ²⁰ to hear a prisoner’s groaning, to release those condemned to death, ²¹ that they may proclaim the name of the LORD in Zion and praise Him in Jerusalem, ²² when peoples and kingdoms assemble to serve the LORD. ²³ He has broken my strength on the way; He has cut short my days. ²⁴ I say: “O my God, do not take me in the midst of my days! Your years go on through all generations. ²⁵ In the beginning You laid the foundations of the earth, and the heavens are the work of Your hands. ²⁶ They will perish, but You remain; they will all wear out like a garment. Like clothing You will change them, and they will be passed on. ²⁷ But You remain the same, and Your years will never end. ²⁸ The children of Your servants will dwell securely, and their descendants will be established before You.”

² I have deep sorrow and unceasing anguish in my heart.

²¹ For now you are of no help; you see terror, and you are afraid. ²² Have I ever said, ‘Give me something; offer me a bribe from your wealth; ²³ deliver me from the hand of the enemy; redeem me from the grasp of the ruthless’?

¹³ He has removed my brothers from me; my acquaintances have abandoned me. ¹⁴ My kinsmen have failed me, and my friends have forgotten me.

⁶ But I am a worm and not a man, scorned by men and despised by the people.

¹¹ My beloved and friends shun my disease, and my kinsmen stand at a distance.

⁸ “A vile disease has been poured into him; he will never get up from where he lies!” ⁹ Even my close friend whom I trusted, the one who shared my bread, has lifted up his heel against me.

⁸ They will be made to stumble, their own tongues turned against them. All who see will shake their heads.

¹⁹ You know my reproach, my shame and disgrace. All my adversaries are before You. ²⁰ Insults have broken my heart, and I am in despair. I looked for sympathy, but there was none, for comforters, but I found no one.

¹⁸ You have removed my beloved and my friend; darkness is my closest companion.

⁵⁰ Remember, O Lord, the reproach of Your servants, which I bear in my heart from so many people— ⁵¹ how Your enemies have taunted, O LORD, and have mocked every step of Your anointed one!

⁷ Thus says the LORD, the Redeemer and Holy One of Israel, to Him who was despised and abhorred by the nation, to the Servant of rulers: “Kings will see You and rise, and princes will bow down, because of the LORD, who is faithful, the Holy One of Israel, who has chosen You.”

³ He was despised and rejected by men, a man of sorrows, acquainted with grief. Like one from whom men hide their faces, He was despised, and we esteemed Him not. ⁴ Surely He took on our infirmities and carried our sorrows; yet we considered Him stricken by God, struck down and afflicted. ⁵ But He was pierced for our transgressions, He was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was upon Him, and by His stripes we are healed.

⁶ Even your brothers—your own father’s household—even they have betrayed you; even they have cried aloud against you. Do not trust them, though they speak well of you.

⁶ For a son dishonors his father, a daughter rises against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law. A man’s enemies are the members of his own household.

²¹ Brother will betray brother to death, and a father his child; children will rise against their parents and have them put to death. ²² You will be hated by everyone because of My name, but the one who perseveres to the end will be saved.

⁵⁶ But this has all happened so that the writings of the prophets would be fulfilled.” Then all the disciples deserted Him and fled.

⁷⁴ At that he began to curse and swear to them, “I do not know the man!” And immediately a rooster crowed.

³⁹ And those who passed by heaped abuse on Him, shaking their heads ⁴⁰ and saying, “You who are going to destroy the temple and rebuild it in three days, save Yourself! If You are the Son of God, come down from the cross!” ⁴¹ In the same way, the chief priests, scribes, and elders mocked Him, saying, ⁴² “He saved others, but He cannot save Himself. He is the King of Israel! Let Him come down now from the cross, and we will believe in Him. ⁴³ He trusts in God. Let God deliver Him now if He wants Him. For He said, ‘I am the Son of God.’” ⁴⁴ In the same way, even the robbers who were crucified with Him berated Him.

⁵⁰ Then everyone deserted Him and fled.

³ For even Christ did not please Himself, but as it is written: “The insults of those who insult You have fallen on Me.”

¹⁶ At my first defense, no one stood with me, but everyone deserted me. May it not be charged against them.

³⁶ Still others endured mocking and flogging, and even chains and imprisonment.

¹³ Therefore let us go to Him outside the camp, bearing the disgrace He bore.

¹⁴ If you are insulted for the name of Christ, you are blessed, because the Spirit of glory and of God rests on you.

⁹ You will break them with an iron scepter; You will shatter them like pottery.”

⁸³ Though I am like a wineskin dried up by smoke, I do not forget Your statutes.

¹⁴ It will break in pieces like a potter’s jar, shattered so that no fragment can be found. Not a shard will be found in the dust large enough to scoop the coals from a hearth or to skim the water from a cistern.”

¹¹ I said, “I will never again see the LORD, even the LORD, in the land of the living; I will no longer look on mankind with those who dwell in this world. ¹² My dwelling has been picked up and removed from me like a shepherd’s tent. I have rolled up my life like a weaver; He cuts me off from the loom; from day until night You make an end of me.

²¹ Does not the potter have the right to make from the same lump of clay one vessel for special occasions and another for common use? ²² What if God, intending to show His wrath and make His power known, bore with great patience the vessels of His wrath, prepared for destruction?

²⁷ He will rule them with an iron scepter and shatter them like pottery—just as I have received authority from My Father.

¹⁰ Saul tried to pin him to the wall with his spear. But the spear struck the wall and David eluded him, ran away, and escaped that night. ¹¹ Then Saul sent messengers to David’s house to watch him and kill him in the morning. But David’s wife Michal warned him, “If you do not run for your life tonight, tomorrow you will be dead!” ¹² So Michal lowered David from the window, and he ran away and escaped. ¹³ Then Michal took a household idol and laid it in the bed, placed some goat hair on its head, and covered it with a garment. ¹⁴ When Saul sent the messengers to seize David, Michal said, “He is ill.” ¹⁵ But Saul sent the messengers back to see David and told them, “Bring him up to me in his bed so I can kill him.” ¹⁶ And when the messengers entered, there was the idol in the bed with the quilt of goats’ hair on its head. ¹⁷ And Saul said to Michal, “Why did you deceive me like this? You sent my enemy away and he has escaped!” Michal replied, “He said to me, ‘Help me get away, or I will kill you!’”

³³ Then Saul hurled his spear at Jonathan to kill him; so Jonathan knew that his father was determined to kill David.

⁸ Is that why all of you have conspired against me? Not one of you told me that my own son had made a covenant with the son of Jesse. Not one of you has shown concern for me or revealed to me that my son has stirred up my own servant to lie in wait against me, as is the case today.” ⁹ But Doeg the Edomite, who had stationed himself with Saul’s servants, answered: “I saw the son of Jesse come to Ahimelech son of Ahitub at Nob. ¹⁰ Ahimelech inquired of the LORD for him and gave him provisions. He also gave him the sword of Goliath the Philistine.”

¹⁹ Then the Ziphites came up to Saul at Gibeah and said, “Is not David hiding among us in the strongholds at Horesh, on the hill of Hachilah south of Jeshimon? ²⁰ Now, O king, come down whenever your soul desires, and we will be responsible for delivering him into your hand.”

⁹ and said to Saul, “Why do you listen to the words of men who say, ‘Look, David intends to harm you’?

¹ Furthermore, Ahithophel said to Absalom, “Let me choose twelve thousand men and set out tonight in pursuit of David. ² I will attack him while he is weak and weary; I will throw him into a panic, and all the people with him will flee; I will strike down only the king ³ and bring all the people back to you as a bride returning to her husband. You seek the life of only one man; then all the people will be at peace.” ⁴ This proposal seemed good to Absalom and all the elders of Israel.

¹⁰ Day and night they encircle the walls, while malice and trouble lie within.

Be merciful to me, O God, for men are hounding me; all day they press their attack. ² My enemies pursue me all day long, for many proudly assail me. ³ When I am afraid, I put my trust in You.

⁴ My soul is among the lions; I lie down with ravenous beasts—with men whose teeth are spears and arrows, whose tongues are sharp swords.

⁵ Whoever slanders his neighbor in secret, I will put to silence; the one with haughty eyes and a proud heart, I will not endure.

²⁵ Do not go out to the fields; do not walk the road. For the enemy has a sword; terror is on every side.

¹⁹ For I was like a gentle lamb led to slaughter; I did not know that they had plotted against me: “Let us destroy the tree with its fruit; let us cut him off from the land of the living, that his name may be remembered no more.”

³ The next day, when Pashhur released Jeremiah from the stocks, Jeremiah said to him, “The LORD does not call you Pashhur, but Magor-missabib. ⁴ For this is what the LORD says: ‘I will make you a terror to yourself and to all your friends. They will fall by the sword of their enemies before your very eyes. And I will hand Judah over to the king of Babylon, and he will carry them away to Babylon and put them to the sword.

¹⁰ For I have heard the whispering of many: “Terror is on every side! Report him; let us report him!” All my trusted friends watch for my fall: “Perhaps he will be deceived so that we may prevail against him and take our vengeance upon him.”

²² You summoned my attackers on every side, as for the day of an appointed feast. In the day of the LORD’s anger no one escaped or survived; my enemy has destroyed those I nurtured and reared.

³ At that time the chief priests and elders of the people assembled in the courtyard of the high priest, whose name was Caiaphas, ⁴ and they conspired to arrest Jesus covertly and kill Him.

⁵⁹ Now the chief priests and the whole Sanhedrin were seeking false testimony against Jesus in order to put Him to death.

¹ When morning came, all the chief priests and elders of the people conspired against Jesus to put Him to death.

¹ Then the whole council rose and led Jesus away to Pilate. ² And they began to accuse Him, saying, “We found this man subverting our nation, forbidding payment of taxes to Caesar, and proclaiming Himself to be Christ, a King.”

⁵ But they kept insisting, “He stirs up the people all over Judea with His teaching. He began in Galilee and has come all the way here.”

¹ A Miktam of David. Preserve me, O God, for in You I take refuge. ² I said to the LORD, “You are my Lord; apart from You I have no good thing.”

¹ For the choirmaster. To the tune of “The Doe of the Dawn.” A Psalm of David. My God, my God, why have You forsaken me? Why are You so far from saving me, so far from my words of groaning? ² I cry out by day, O my God, but You do not answer, and by night, but I have no rest.

⁵ Why are you downcast, O my soul? Why the unease within me? Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise Him, my Savior and my God.

³ When I am afraid, I put my trust in You. ⁴ In God, whose word I praise—in God I trust. I will not be afraid. What can man do to me?

¹ A Psalm of David, when he was in the Wilderness of Judah. O God, You are my God. Earnestly I seek You; my soul thirsts for You. My body yearns for You in a dry and weary land without water.

¹² Be not far from me, O God. Hurry, O my God, to help me.

²² So I will praise You with the harp for Your faithfulness, O my God; I will sing praise to You with the lyre, O Holy One of Israel.

⁶ I say to the LORD, “You are my God.” Hear, O LORD, my cry for help.

³⁹ Going a little farther, He fell facedown and prayed, “My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from Me. Yet not as I will, but as You will.”

⁴² A second time He went away and prayed, “My Father, if this cup cannot pass unless I drink it, may Your will be done.”

⁴⁶ About the ninth hour Jesus cried out in a loud voice, “Eli, Eli, lema sabachthani?” which means, “My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me?”

¹⁷ “Do not cling to Me,” Jesus said, “for I have not yet ascended to the Father. But go and tell My brothers, ‘I am ascending to My Father and your Father, to My God and your God.’”

¹⁰ David added, “As surely as the LORD lives, the LORD Himself will strike him down; either his day will come and he will die, or he will go into battle and perish.

¹² And when your days are fulfilled and you rest with your fathers, I will raise up your descendant after you, who will come from your own body, and I will establish his kingdom.

¹ “Why does the Almighty not reserve times for judgment? Why may those who know Him never see His days?

⁸ Keep me as the apple of Your eye; hide me in the shadow of Your wings ⁹ from the wicked who assail me, from my mortal enemies who surround me.

¹³ Arise, O LORD, confront them! Bring them to their knees; deliver me from the wicked by Your sword,

¹⁰ For my enemies speak against me, and those who lie in wait for my life conspire, ¹¹ saying, “God has forsaken him; pursue him and seize him, for there is no one to rescue him.” ¹² Be not far from me, O God. Hurry, O my God, to help me.

¹⁵ Precious in the sight of the LORD is the death of His saints.

⁶ Listen to my cry, for I am brought quite low. Rescue me from my pursuers, for they are too strong for me.

³ For the enemy has pursued my soul, crushing my life to the ground, making me dwell in darkness like those long since dead.

⁹ Deliver me from my enemies, O LORD; I flee to You for refuge.

¹² And in Your loving devotion, cut off my enemies. Destroy all who afflict me, for I am Your servant.

¹ To everything there is a season, and a time for every purpose under heaven: ² a time to be born and a time to die, a time to plant and a time to uproot, ³ a time to kill and a time to heal, a time to break down and a time to build, ⁴ a time to weep and a time to laugh, a time to mourn and a time to dance, ⁵ a time to cast away stones and a time to gather stones together, a time to embrace and a time to refrain from embracing, ⁶ a time to search and a time to count as lost, a time to keep and a time to discard, ⁷ a time to tear and a time to mend, a time to be silent and a time to speak, ⁸ a time to love and a time to hate, a time for war and a time for peace.

²⁰ Then I will make you a wall to this people, a fortified wall of bronze; they will fight against you but will not overcome you, for I am with you to save and deliver you, declares the LORD. ²¹ I will deliver you from the hand of the wicked and redeem you from the grasp of the ruthless.”

⁵¹ As the day of His ascension approached, Jesus resolutely set out for Jerusalem.

⁶ Therefore Jesus told them, “Although your time is always at hand, My time has not yet come.

³⁰ So they tried to seize Him, but no one laid a hand on Him, because His hour had not yet come.

²⁷ Now My soul is troubled, and what shall I say? ‘Father, save Me from this hour’? No, it is for this purpose that I have come to this hour.

¹ It was now just before the Passover Feast, and Jesus knew that His hour had come to leave this world and return to the Father. Having loved His own who were in the world, He loved them to the very end.

¹ When Jesus had spoken these things, He lifted up His eyes to heaven and said, “Father, the hour has come. Glorify Your Son, that Your Son may glorify You.

⁷ Jesus replied, “It is not for you to know times or seasons that the Father has fixed by His own authority.

¹¹ The following night the Lord stood near Paul and said, “Take courage! As you have testified about Me in Jerusalem, so also you must testify in Rome.”

²⁴ and said, ‘Do not be afraid, Paul; you must stand before Caesar. And look, God has granted you the lives of all who sail with you.’

⁶ For I am already being poured out like a drink offering, and the time of my departure is at hand.

¹⁴ because I know that this tent will soon be laid aside, as our Lord Jesus Christ has made clear to me.

²⁵ may the LORD cause His face to shine upon you and be gracious to you; ²⁶ may the LORD lift up His countenance toward you and give you peace.’

⁶ Many ask, “Who can show us the good?” Shine the light of Your face upon us, O LORD.

⁴ Turn, O LORD, and deliver my soul; save me because of Your loving devotion.

⁷ O LORD, You favored me; You made my mountain stand strong. When You hid Your face, I was dismayed.

¹⁷ So now, our God, hear the prayers and petitions of Your servant. For Your sake, O Lord, cause Your face to shine upon Your desolate sanctuary. ¹⁸ Incline Your ear, O my God, and hear; open Your eyes and see the desolation of the city that bears Your name. For we are not presenting our petitions before You because of our righteous acts, but because of Your great compassion.

¹⁵ For He says to Moses: “I will have mercy on whom I have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I have compassion.”

²³ What if He did this to make the riches of His glory known to the vessels of His mercy, whom He prepared in advance for glory—

⁶ to the praise of His glorious grace, which He has freely given us in the Beloved One. ⁷ In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of His grace

⁴ But because of His great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, ⁵ made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in our trespasses. It is by grace you have been saved! ⁶ And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with Him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus, ⁷ in order that in the coming ages He might display the surpassing riches of His grace, demonstrated by His kindness to us in Christ Jesus.

⁹ He guards the steps of His faithful ones, but the wicked perish in darkness; for by his own strength shall no man prevail.

¹⁰ All my enemies will be ashamed and dismayed; they will turn back in sudden disgrace.

² in You, my God, I trust. Do not let me be put to shame; do not let my enemies exult over me. ³ Surely none who wait for You will be put to shame; but those who are faithless without cause will be disgraced.

² May those who seek my life be ashamed and confounded; may those who wish me harm be repelled and humiliated. ³ May those who say, “Aha, aha!” retreat because of their shame.

²⁴ My tongue will indeed proclaim Your righteousness all day long, for those who seek my harm are disgraced and confounded.

¹⁶ Cover their faces with shame, that they may seek Your name, O LORD. ¹⁷ May they be ever ashamed and terrified; may they perish in disgrace.

¹⁷ Unless the LORD had been my helper, I would soon have dwelt in the abode of silence.

¹⁷ It is not the dead who praise the LORD, nor any who descend into silence.

¹¹ Behold, all who rage against you will be ashamed and disgraced; those who contend with you will be reduced to nothing and will perish. ¹² You will seek them but will not find them. Those who wage war against you will come to nothing.

¹⁶ They will all be put to shame and humiliated; the makers of idols will depart together in disgrace. ¹⁷ But Israel will be saved by the LORD with an everlasting salvation; you will not be put to shame or humiliated, to ages everlasting.

⁶ I offered My back to those who struck Me, and My cheeks to those who tore out My beard. I did not hide My face from scorn and spittle. ⁷ Because the Lord GOD helps Me, I have not been disgraced; therefore I have set My face like flint, and I know that I will not be put to shame.

¹³ Therefore this is what the Lord GOD says: “My servants will eat, but you will go hungry; My servants will drink, but you will go thirsty; My servants will rejoice, but you will be put to shame. ¹⁴ My servants will shout for joy with a glad heart, but you will cry out with a heavy heart and wail with a broken spirit.

¹¹ But the LORD is with me like a fearsome warrior. Therefore, my persecutors will stumble and will not prevail. Since they have not succeeded, they will be utterly put to shame, with an everlasting disgrace that will never be forgotten.

² And many who sleep in the dust of the earth will awake, some to everlasting life, but others to shame and everlasting contempt.

²⁶ You will have plenty to eat, until you are satisfied. You will praise the name of the LORD your God, who has worked wonders for you. My people will never again be put to shame. ²⁷ Then you will know that I am present in Israel and that I am the LORD your God, and there is no other. My people will never again be put to shame.

¹² ‘Friend,’ he asked, ‘how did you get in here without wedding clothes?’ But the man was speechless. ¹³ Then the king told the servants, ‘Tie him hand and foot, and throw him into the outer darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.’

³ Do not boast so proudly, or let arrogance come from your mouth, for the LORD is a God who knows, and by Him actions are weighed.

¹⁶ And the servants of Sennacherib spoke further against the LORD God and against His servant Hezekiah.

³ May the LORD cut off all flattering lips and every boastful tongue.

¹² By the sins of their mouths and the words of their lips, let them be trapped in their pride, in the curses and lies they utter.

¹¹ But the king will rejoice in God; all who swear by Him will exult, for the mouths of liars will be shut.

³ who sharpen their tongues like swords and aim their bitter words like arrows, ⁴ ambushing the innocent in seclusion, shooting suddenly, without fear.

⁴ They pour out arrogant words; all workers of iniquity boast.

² Deliver my soul, O LORD, from lying lips and a deceitful tongue.

³ Have mercy on us, O LORD, have mercy, for we have endured much contempt. ⁴ We have endured much scorn from the arrogant, much contempt from the proud.

⁹ May the heads of those who surround me be covered in the trouble their lips have caused. ¹⁰ May burning coals fall on them; may they be thrown into the fire, into the miry pits, never to rise again. ¹¹ May no slanderer be established in the land; may calamity hunt down the man of violence.

¹⁹ Truthful lips endure forever, but a lying tongue lasts only a moment.

²² this is the word that the LORD has spoken against him: ‘The Virgin Daughter of Zion despises you and mocks you; the Daughter of Jerusalem shakes her head behind you. ²³ Whom have you taunted and blasphemed? Against whom have you raised your voice and lifted your eyes in pride? Against the Holy One of Israel! ²⁴ Through your servants you have taunted the Lord, and you have said: “With my many chariots I have ascended to the heights of the mountains, to the remote peaks of Lebanon. I have cut down its tallest cedars, the finest of its cypresses. I have reached its farthest heights, the densest of its forests.

¹⁷ No weapon formed against you shall prosper, and you will refute every tongue that accuses you. This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD, and their vindication is from Me,” declares the LORD.

²⁵ It is enough for a disciple to be like his teacher, and a servant like his master. If the head of the house has been called Beelzebul, how much more the members of his household!

²⁴ But when the Pharisees heard this, they said, “Only by Beelzebul, the prince of demons, does this man drive out demons.”

⁴⁴ You belong to your father, the devil, and you want to carry out his desires. He was a murderer from the beginning, refusing to uphold the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, because he is a liar and the father of lies.

⁴⁸ The Jews answered Him, “Are we not right to say that You are a Samaritan and You have a demon?”

⁷ When Paul arrived, the Jews who had come down from Jerusalem stood around him, bringing many serious charges that they could not prove.

¹⁵ to execute judgment on everyone, and to convict all the ungodly of every ungodly act of wickedness and every harsh word spoken against Him by ungodly sinners.”

⁸ But to the cowardly and unbelieving and abominable and murderers and sexually immoral and sorcerers and idolaters and all liars, their place will be in the lake that burns with fire and sulfur. This is the second death.”

¹⁵ But outside are the dogs, the sorcerers, the sexually immoral, the murderers, the idolaters, and everyone who loves and practices falsehood.

²³ For there is no spell against Jacob and no divination against Israel. It will now be said of Jacob and Israel, ‘What great things God has done!’

¹¹ You have made known to me the path of life; You will fill me with joy in Your presence, with eternal pleasures at Your right hand.

⁵ You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.

⁷ How precious is Your loving devotion, O God, that the children of men take refuge in the shadow of Your wings! ⁸ They feast on the abundance of Your house, and You give them drink from Your river of delights. ⁹ For with You is the fountain of life; in Your light we see light. ¹⁰ Extend Your loving devotion to those who know You, and Your righteousness to the upright in heart.

²⁸ Summon Your power, O God; show Your strength, O God, which You have exerted on our behalf.

¹ A Psalm of Asaph. Surely God is good to Israel, to those who are pure in heart.

²⁴ You guide me with Your counsel, and later receive me in glory. ²⁵ Whom have I in heaven but You? And on earth I desire no one besides You. ²⁶ My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.

² Then our mouths were filled with laughter, our tongues with shouts of joy. Then it was said among the nations, “The LORD has done great things for them.” ³ The LORD has done great things for us; we are filled with joy.

⁷ They will extol the fame of Your abundant goodness and sing joyfully of Your righteousness. ⁸ The LORD is gracious and compassionate, slow to anger and abounding in loving devotion. ⁹ The LORD is good to all; His compassion rests on all He has made.

¹² O LORD, You will establish peace for us. For all that we have accomplished, You have done for us.

¹⁰ So the redeemed of the LORD will return and enter Zion with singing, crowned with everlasting joy. Gladness and joy will overtake them, and sorrow and sighing will flee.

⁴ From ancient times no one has heard, no ear has perceived, no eye has seen any God besides You, who acts on behalf of those who wait for Him.

²³ They are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness! ²⁴ “The LORD is my portion,” says my soul, “therefore I will hope in Him.” ²⁵ The LORD is good to those who wait for Him, to the soul who seeks Him.

²¹ But whoever practices the truth comes into the Light, so that it may be seen clearly that what he has done has been accomplished in God.”

¹² The whole assembly fell silent as they listened to Barnabas and Paul describing the signs and wonders God had done among the Gentiles through them.

²² Take notice, therefore, of the kindness and severity of God: severity to those who fell, but kindness to you, if you continue in His kindness. Otherwise you also will be cut off.

⁹ Rather, as it is written: “No eye has seen, no ear has heard, no heart has imagined, what God has prepared for those who love Him.”

⁵ And God has prepared us for this very purpose and has given us the Spirit as a pledge of what is to come.

² Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. ³ For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God. ⁴ When Christ, who is your life, appears, then you also will appear with Him in glory.

³⁴ You sympathized with those in prison and joyfully accepted the confiscation of your property, knowing that you yourselves had a better and permanent possession.

⁵ Listen, my beloved brothers: Has not God chosen the poor of this world to be rich in faith and to inherit the kingdom He promised those who love Him?

⁴ and into an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, reserved in heaven for you, ⁵ who through faith are shielded by God’s power for the salvation that is ready to be revealed in the last time.

¹ Behold what manner of love the Father has given to us, that we should be called children of God. And that is what we are! The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know Him. ² Beloved, we are now children of God, and what we will be has not yet been revealed. We know that when Christ appears, we will be like Him, for we will see Him as He is.

¹¹ Now I know that the LORD is greater than all other gods, for He did this when they treated Israel with arrogance.”

²¹ You will be hidden from the scourge of the tongue, and will not fear havoc when it comes.

² In pride the wicked pursue the needy; let them be caught in the schemes they devise.

⁵ For in the day of trouble He will hide me in His shelter; He will conceal me under the cover of His tent; He will set me high upon a rock.

⁷ You are my hiding place. You protect me from trouble; You surround me with songs of deliverance. Selah

¹¹ Let not the foot of the proud come against me, nor the hand of the wicked drive me away.

⁴ Blessed is the man who has made the LORD his trust, who has not turned to the proud, nor to those who lapse into falsehood.

² Hide me from the scheming of the wicked, from the mob of workers of iniquity,

¹⁴ The arrogant rise against me, O God; a band of ruthless men seeks my life, with no regard for You.

¹ He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will abide in the shadow of the Almighty. ² I will say to the LORD, “You are my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.” ³ Surely He will deliver you from the snare of the fowler, and from the deadly plague. ⁴ He will cover you with His feathers; under His wings you will find refuge; His faithfulness is a shield and rampart.

⁵ then the raging waters would have swept us away.

³ They sharpen their tongues like snakes; the venom of vipers is on their lips. Selah

¹³ Let us behave decently, as in the daytime, not in carousing and drunkenness, not in sexual immorality and debauchery, not in dissension and jealousy.

²⁰ For I am afraid that when I come, I may not find you as I wish, and you may not find me as you wish. I fear that there may be quarreling, jealousy, rage, rivalry, slander, gossip, arrogance, and disorder.

²⁰ idolatry and sorcery; hatred, discord, jealousy, and rage; rivalries, divisions, factions,

⁴ he is conceited and understands nothing. Instead, he has an unhealthy interest in controversies and semantics, out of which come envy, strife, abusive talk, evil suspicions,

⁵ In the same way, the tongue is a small part of the body, but it boasts of great things. Consider how small a spark sets a great forest ablaze. ⁶ The tongue also is a fire, a world of wickedness among the parts of the body. It pollutes the whole person, sets the course of his life on fire, and is itself set on fire by hell.

¹⁴ But if you harbor bitter jealousy and selfish ambition in your hearts, do not boast in it or deny the truth. ¹⁵ Such wisdom does not come from above, but is earthly, unspiritual, demonic. ¹⁶ For where jealousy and selfish ambition exist, there will be disorder and every evil practice.

⁶ But He gives us more grace. This is why it says: “God opposes the proud, but gives grace to the humble.”

⁷ When Saul was told that David had gone to Keilah, he said, “God has delivered him into my hand, for he has trapped himself by entering a town with gates and bars.” ⁸ Then Saul summoned all his troops to go to war at Keilah and besiege David and his men. ⁹ When David learned that Saul was plotting evil against him, he said to Abiathar the priest, “Bring the ephod.” ¹⁰ And David said, “O LORD, God of Israel, Your servant has heard that Saul intends to come to Keilah and destroy the city on my account. ¹¹ Will the citizens of Keilah surrender me into his hand? Will Saul come down, as Your servant has heard? O LORD, God of Israel, please tell Your servant.” “He will,” said the LORD. ¹² So David asked, “Will the citizens of Keilah surrender me and my men into the hand of Saul?” “They will,” said the LORD. ¹³ Then David and his men, about six hundred strong, set out and departed from Keilah, moving from place to place. When Saul was told that David had escaped from Keilah, he declined to go forth.

⁷ Show the wonders of Your loving devotion, You who save by Your right hand those who seek refuge from their foes.

¹ A Psalm. Sing to the LORD a new song, for He has done wonders; His right hand and holy arm have gained Him the victory.

²³ This is from the LORD, and it is marvelous in our eyes.

¹⁸ Now behold, this day I have made you like a fortified city, an iron pillar, and bronze walls against the whole land—against the kings of Judah, its officials, its priests, and the people of the land.

⁹ But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for God’s own possession, to proclaim the virtues of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light.

²⁶ Saul was proceeding along one side of the mountain, and David and his men along the other side. Even though David was hurrying to get away, Saul and his men were closing in on David and his men to capture them.

¹ David, however, said to himself, “One of these days now I will be swept away by the hand of Saul. There is nothing better for me than to escape to the land of the Philistines. Then Saul will stop searching for me all over Israel, and I will slip out of his hand.”

¹¹ So the LORD brought against them the military commanders of the king of Assyria, who captured Manasseh, put a hook in his nose, bound him with bronze shackles, and took him to Babylon. ¹² And in his distress, Manasseh sought the favor of the LORD his God and earnestly humbled himself before the God of his fathers. ¹³ And when he prayed to Him, the LORD received his plea and heard his petition; so He brought him back to Jerusalem and to his kingdom. Then Manasseh knew that the LORD is God.

¹⁴ How much less, then, when you say that you do not see Him, that your case is before Him and you must wait for Him,

⁹ The LORD has heard my cry for mercy; the LORD accepts my prayer.

¹⁷ O LORD, let me not be ashamed, for I have called on You. Let the wicked be put to shame; let them lie silent in Sheol.

¹⁶ Your wrath has swept over me; Your terrors have destroyed me.

¹¹ In my alarm I said, “All men are liars!”

⁵ Then I said: “Woe is me, for I am ruined, because I am a man of unclean lips dwelling among a people of unclean lips; for my eyes have seen the King, the LORD of Hosts.”

¹⁰ I said, “In the prime of my life I must go through the gates of Sheol and be deprived of the remainder of my years.”

¹⁴ But Zion said, “The LORD has forsaken me; the Lord has forgotten me!”

⁵⁴ The waters flowed over my head, and I thought I was going to die. ⁵⁵ I called on Your name, O LORD, out of the depths of the Pit.

¹¹ Then He said to me, “Son of man, these bones are the whole house of Israel. Look, they are saying, ‘Our bones are dried up, and our hope has perished; we are cut off.’

⁴ At this, I said, ‘I have been banished from Your sight; yet I will look once more toward Your holy temple.’

⁷ As my life was fading away, I remembered the LORD. My prayer went up to You, to Your holy temple. ⁸ Those who cling to worthless idols forsake His loving devotion. ⁹ But I, with the voice of thanksgiving, will sacrifice to You. I will fulfill what I have vowed. Salvation is from the LORD!”

⁷ During the days of Jesus’ earthly life, He offered up prayers and petitions with loud cries and tears to the One who could save Him from death, and He was heard because of His reverence.

¹² And now, O Israel, what does the LORD your God ask of you but to fear the LORD your God by walking in all His ways, to love Him, to serve the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul,

¹⁶ For I am commanding you today to love the LORD your God, to walk in His ways, and to keep His commandments, statutes, and ordinances, so that you may live and increase, and the LORD your God may bless you in the land that you are entering to possess.

⁴¹ when I sharpen My flashing sword, and My hand grasps it in judgment, I will take vengeance on My adversaries and repay those who hate Me.

³ Surely You love the people; all the holy ones are in Your hand, and they sit down at Your feet; each receives Your words—

⁴ Sing to the LORD, O you His saints, and praise His holy name.

⁹ Fear the LORD, you His saints, for those who fear Him lack nothing.

⁵ He will reward my enemies with evil. In Your faithfulness, destroy them.

⁷ In the council of the holy ones, God is greatly feared, and awesome above all who surround Him.

² Rise up, O Judge of the earth; render a reward to the proud.

¹⁰ Hate evil, O you who love the LORD! He preserves the souls of His saints; He delivers them from the hand of the wicked.

¹⁰ All You have made will give You thanks, O LORD, and Your saints will bless You.

²⁰ The LORD preserves all who love Him, but all the wicked He will destroy.

⁶ And the foreigners who join themselves to the LORD to minister to Him, to love the name of the LORD, and to be His servants—all who keep the Sabbath without profaning it and who hold fast to My covenant—

²³ In the resurrection, then, whose wife will she be? For all seven were married to her.”

¹ Finally, brothers, we ask and encourage you in the Lord Jesus to live in a way that is pleasing to God, just as you have received from us. This is how you already live, so you should do so all the more.

¹ Jude, a servant of Jesus Christ and a brother of James, To those who are called, loved by God the Father, and kept in Jesus Christ:

⁶ Give back to her as she has done to others; pay her back double for what she has done; mix her a double portion in her own cup.

⁵ Then a voice came from the throne, saying: “Praise our God, all you who serve Him, and those who fear Him, small and great alike!” ⁶ And I heard a sound like the roar of a great multitude, like the rushing of many waters, and like a mighty rumbling of thunder, crying out: “Hallelujah! For the Lord our God the Almighty reigns.

¹⁴ Wait patiently for the LORD; be strong and courageous. Wait patiently for the LORD!

¹¹ The LORD gives His people strength; the LORD blesses His people with peace.

³ On the day I called, You answered me; You emboldened me and strengthened my soul.

⁵ Blessed is he whose help is the God of Jacob, whose hope is in the LORD his God,

³ Strengthen the limp hands and steady the feeble knees! ⁴ Say to those with anxious hearts: “Be strong, do not fear! Behold, your God will come with vengeance. With divine retribution He will come to save you.”

³¹ Simon, Simon, Satan has asked to sift each of you like wheat. ³² But I have prayed for you, Simon, that your faith will not fail. And when you have turned back, strengthen your brothers.”

¹² And once more, Isaiah says: “The Root of Jesse will appear, One who will arise to rule over the Gentiles; in Him the Gentiles will put their hope.” ¹³ Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you believe in Him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.

¹¹ being strengthened with all power according to His glorious might so that you may have full endurance and patience, and joyfully

¹² Therefore strengthen your limp hands and weak knees. ¹³ Make straight paths for your feet, so that the lame may not be disabled, but rather healed.

¹⁰ Brothers, as an example of patience in affliction, take the prophets who spoke in the name of the Lord. ¹¹ See how blessed we consider those who have persevered. You have heard of Job’s perseverance and have seen the outcome from the Lord. The Lord is full of compassion and mercy.

²¹ Through Him you believe in God, who raised Him from the dead and glorified Him; and so your faith and hope are in God.
