And Solomon took to himself the daughter of Pharaoh as wife, and brought her into the City of David until he had finished the house of the Lord, and his own house, and the wall of Jerusalem. Then he went up to Pharaoh the king of Egypt, and took Gazer, and burnt it and the Canaanite dwelling in Mergab; and Pharaoh gave them as a dowry to his daughter the wife of Solomon; and Solomon rebuilt Gazer.

²⁰ And God said, Let the waters bring forth reptiles having life, and winged creatures flying above the earth in the firmament of heaven, and it was so. ²¹ And God made great whales, and every living reptile, which the waters brought forth according to their kinds, and every creature that flies with wings according to its kind; and God saw that they were good. ²² And God blessed them saying, Increase and multiply and fill the waters in the seas, and let the creatures that fly be multiplied on the earth. ²³ And there was evening and there was morning, the fifth day. ²⁴ And God said, Let the earth bring forth the living creature according to its kind, cattle and reptiles and wild beasts of the earth according to their kind, and it was so. ²⁵ And God made the wild beasts of the earth according to their kind, and cattle according to their kind, and all the reptiles of the earth according to their kind, and God saw that they were good.

³¹ And I will set your borders from the Red Sea to the sea of the Philistines, and from the wilderness to the great river Euphrates; and I will give into your hand those that dwell in the land, and will cast them out from you.

¹⁸ And a clean man shall take hyssop, and dip it into the water, and sprinkle it upon the house, and the furniture, and all the souls that are in there, and upon him that touched the human bone, or the slain man, or the corpse, or the tomb.

²¹ We will pass through your land, we will go by the road; we will not turn aside to the field or to the vineyard. ²² We will not drink water out of your well; we will go by the king's highway, until we have past your boundaries. ²³ And Sihon did not allow Israel to pass through his borders, and Sihon gathered all his people, and went out to set the battle in array against Israel into the wilderness; and he came to Jahaz, and set the battle in array against Israel. ²⁴ And Israel struck him with the slaughter of the sword, and they became possessors of his land, from Arnon to Jabbok, as far as the children of Ammon (for Jahaz is the border of the children of Ammon). ²⁵ And Israel took all their cities, and Israel dwelt in all the cities of the Amorites, in Heshbon, and in all cities belonging to it. ²⁶ For Heshbon is the city of Sihon king of the Amorites; and he before fought against the king of Moab, and they took all his land, from Aroer to Arnon. ²⁷ Therefore those who speak in dark speeches say, Come to Heshbon, that the city of Sihon may be built and prepared. ²⁸ For a fire has gone forth from Heshbon, a flame from the city of Sihon, and has consumed as far as Moab, and devoured the pillars of Arnon. ²⁹ Woe to you, Moab! You are lost, O people of Chemosh! Their sons are sold for preservation, and their daughters are captives to Sihon king of the Amorites. ³⁰ And their seed shall perish from Heshbon to Dibon; and their women have kindled a fire against Moab. ³¹ And Israel dwelt in all the cities of the Amorites. ³² And Moses sent to spy out Jazer; and they took it, and its villages, and cast out the Amorites that dwelt there. ³³ And having returned, they went up the road that leads to Bashan. And Og the king of Bashan went forth to meet them, and all his people, to war at Edrei. ³⁴ And the Lord said to Moses, Fear him not; for I have delivered him and all his people, and all his land, into your hands; and you shall do to him as you did to Sihon king of the Amorites, who dwelled in Heshbon. ³⁵ And he struck him and his sons, and all his people, until he left none of his to be taken alive; and they inherited his land.

¹³ And the rest of Gilead, and all Bashan the kingdom of Og I gave to the half-tribe of Manasseh, and all the country round about Argob, all that Bashan; it shall be accounted the land of Rephaim. ¹⁴ And Jair the son of Manasseh took all the country round about Argob as far as the borders of Gargasi and Machathi: he called them by his name Bashan Thavoth Jair, until this day.

⁴³ Bezer in the wilderness, in the plain country of Reuben, and Ramoth in Gilead belonging to Gad, and Golan in Bashan belonging to Manasseh.

²⁴ Every place on which the sole of your foot shall tread shall be yours; from the wilderness and Lebanon, and from the great river, the River Euphrates, even as far as the west sea shall be your coasts.

¹⁶ For he shall not multiply to himself horses, and he shall by no means turn the people back to Egypt, lest he should multiply to himself horses; for the Lord said, You shall not return that way again.

⁴ The wilderness and Lebanon, as far as the great river, the River Euphrates, and as far as the extremity of the sea; your coasts shall be from the setting of the sun.

¹⁶ then the waters that came down from above stopped; there stood one solid heap very far off, as far as the region of Zaretan, and the lower part came down to the sea of the Arabah, the Salt Sea, till it completely failed; and the people stood opposite Jericho.

⁹ from Aroer, which is on the bank of the Brook of Arnon, and the city in the midst of the valley, and all the plain of Medeba as far as Dibon. ¹⁰ All the cities of Sihon king of the Amorites, who reigned from Heshbon to the coasts of the children of Ammon; ¹¹ and the region of Gilead, and the borders of the Geshirites and the Maachathites, and all Mount Hermon, and all the land of Bashan to Salcah. ¹² All the kingdom of Og in the region of Bashan, who reigned in Ashtaroth and in Edrei — he was left of the giants; and Moses struck him, and destroyed him.

²⁶ And from Heshbon to Ramath by Mizpah, and Betonim, and from Mahanaim to the borders of Debir,

³⁵ Jarmuth, Adullam, Membra, Socoh, Azekah,

¹¹ And Manasseh shall have in the portion of Issachar and Beth Shean and their villages, and the inhabitants of Dor, and its villages, and the inhabitants of Megiddo, and its villages, and the third part of Mapheta, and its villages.

²⁰ And the Jordan shall be their boundary on the east: this is the inheritance of the children of Benjamin, these are their borders round about according to their families. ²¹ And the cities of the children of Benjamin according to their families were: Jericho, Beth Haglah, Emek, ²² Beth Arabah, Sara, Besana, ²³ Avim, Parah, Ephratha, ²⁴ Carapha, Cephira, Moni, Gabaa, twelve cities and their villages; ²⁵ Gibeon, Ramah, Beeroth, ²⁶ Mizpah, Miron, Mozah; ²⁷ Phira, Caphan, Nacan, Selecan, Taralah, ²⁸ Jebus (this is Jerusalem); and Gibeath, and Jearim; thirteen cities, and their villages. This is the inheritance of the sons of Benjamin according to their families.

¹⁷ And the fourth lot came out to Issachar. ¹⁸ And their borders were Jezreel, Chesulloth, Shunem, ¹⁹ Haphraim, Shion, Anaharath, ²⁰ Anachereth, Dabiron, Kishion, Abez, ²¹ Remeth, En Gannim, En Haddah, Emarek, and Beth Pazzez. ²² And the boundaries shall border upon Tabor, and upon Shahazimah westward, and Beth Shemesh; and the extremity of his bounds shall be the Jordan. ²³ This is the inheritance of the tribe of the children of Issachar according to their families, the cities and their villages. ²⁴ And the fifth lot came out to Asher according to their families. ²⁵ And their borders were Helkath, Aleph, Baethok, Achshaph, ²⁶ Alammelech, Amad, Mishal, and the lot will border on Carmel westward, along the Brook Shihor Libnah. ²⁷ And it will return westward from Beth Dagon, and will join Zebulun and Ekgai, and Jiphthah El northwards, and the borders will come to Beth Emk and Neiel, and will go on to Cabul, ²⁸ Ebron, Rehob, Hammon, and Kanah, to Great Sidon. ²⁹ And the borders shall turn back to Ramah, and to the fountain of Masphassat, and the Tyrians; and the borders shall return to Jasiph, and their going forth shall be the sea, and Apoleb, and Achzib. ³⁰ Also Archob, Aphek, and Rehob. ³¹ This is the inheritance of the tribe of the sons of Asher according to their families, the cities and their villages. ³² And the sixth lot came out to Nephthali. ³³ And their borders were Moolam, Mola, Besemiin, Arme, Naboc, and Jephthamai, as far as Dodam; and their goings out were the Jordan. ³⁴ And the coasts will return westward by Athabor, and will go out from there to Jacanah, and will border on Zebulun southward, and Asher will join it westward, and the Jordan eastward. ³⁵ And the walled cities of the Tyrians are: Tyre, Omathadaketh, Kenereth, ³⁶ Adamah, Ramah, Hazor, ³⁷ Kadesh, Edrei, En Hazor, ³⁸ Iron, Migdal, El, Horem, and Thessamys. ³⁹ This is the inheritance of the tribe of the children of Nephthali.

³⁸ And out of the tribe of Gad the city of refuge for the manslayer, both Ramoth in Gilead, and its suburbs; Camin and its suburbs;

³³ And it came to pass afterwards that Eleazar the high priest the son of Aaron died, and was buried in Gibeah of Phinehas his son, which he gave him in Mount Ephraim. In that day the children of Israel took the ark of God, and carried it about among them. And Phinehas exercised the priest's office in the place of Eleazar his father till he died, and he was buried in his own place Gibeah. But the children of Israel departed everyone to their place, and to their own city: and the children of Israel worshipped Astarte, and Astaroth, and the gods of the nations round about them; and the Lord delivered them into the hands of Eglom king of Moab, and he ruled over them eighteen years.

²⁷ And Manasseh did not drive out the inhabitants of Beth-Shean, which is a city of Scythians, nor her towns, nor her suburbs; nor Taanach, nor her towns; nor the inhabitants of Dor, nor her suburbs, nor her towns; nor the inhabitant of Balac, nor her suburbs, nor her towns; nor the inhabitants of Megiddo, nor her suburbs, nor her towns; nor the inhabitants of Jeblaam, nor her suburbs, nor her towns; and the Canaanite began to dwell in this land.

³⁵ And the Amorite began to dwell in the mountain of shells, in which are bears, and foxes, in Myrsinon, and in Shaalabbin; and the hand of the house of Joseph was heavy upon the Amorite, and he became forced labor to them.

You have slain Uriah the Hittite with the sword, and you have taken his wife to be your wife, and you have slain him with the sword of the children of Ammon. ¹⁰ Now therefore the sword shall never depart from your house, because you have despised Me, and you have taken the wife of Uriah the Hittite, to be your wife. ¹¹ Thus says the Lord: Behold, I will raise up evil against you out of your own house, and I will take your wives from before your eyes, and will give them to your neighbor, and he shall lie with your wives in broad daylight. ¹² For you did it in secret, but I will do this thing in the sight of all Israel, and in broad daylight. ¹³ And David said to Nathan, I have sinned against the Lord. And Nathan said to David, The Lord has put away your sin; you shall not die. ¹⁴ Only because you have given great occasion of provocation to the enemies of the Lord by this thing, your son also that is born to you shall surely die. ¹⁵ And Nathan departed to his house. And the Lord struck the child, which the wife of Uriah the Hittite bore to David, and it was ill.

And the king was very old, and Abishag the Shunammite was ministering to the king. ¹⁶ And Bathsheba bowed down before the king; and the king said, What is your request? ¹⁷ And she said, My lord, you swore by the Lord your God to your handmaid, saying, Your son Solomon shall reign after me, and shall sit upon my throne. ¹⁸ And now, behold, Adonijah reigns, and you, my lord, O king, know it not. ¹⁹ And he has sacrificed calves and lambs and sheep in abundance, and has called all the king's sons, and Abiathar the priest and Joab the commander-in-chief of the army; but Solomon your servant he has not called. ²⁰ And you, my lord, O king, the eyes of all Israel are upon you, to tell them who shall sit upon the throne of my lord the king after him. ²¹ And it shall come to pass, when my lord the king shall sleep with his fathers, that I and Solomon my son shall be offenders. ²² And behold, while she was yet talking with the king, Nathan the prophet came. And it was reported to the king, ²³ Behold, Nathan the prophet is here. And he came in to the king's presence, and bowed down to the king with his face to the ground. ²⁴ And Nathan said, My lord, O king, did you say, Adonijah shall reign after me, and he shall sit upon my throne? ²⁵ For he has gone down today, and has sacrificed calves and lambs and sheep in abundance, and has called all the king's sons, and the chiefs of the army, and Abiathar the priest; and behold, they are eating and drinking before him, and they said, Long live King Adonijah. ²⁶ But he has not invited me your servant, and Zadok the priest, and Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, and Solomon your servant. ²⁷ Has this matter happened by the authority of my lord the king, and have you not made known to your servant who shall sit upon the throne of my lord the king after him? ²⁸ And King David answered and said, Call me Bathsheba. And she came in before the king, and stood before him. ²⁹ And the king swore, and said, As the Lord lives who redeemed my soul out of all affliction, ³⁰ as I swore to you by the Lord God of Israel, saying, Solomon your son shall reign after me, and he shall sit upon my throne in my place, so will I do this day. ³¹ And Bathsheba bowed with her face to the ground, and paid homage to the king, and said, Let my lord King David live forever. ³² And King David said, Call me Zadok the priest, and Nathan the prophet, and Benaiah the son of Jehoiada. And they came in before the king. ³³ And the king said to them, Take the servants of your lord with you, and mount my son Solomon upon my own mule, and bring him down to Gihon. ³⁴ And there let Zadok the priest and Nathan the prophet anoint him to be king over Israel, and sound the trumpet, and you shall say, Long live King Solomon! ³⁵ And he shall sit upon my throne, and reign in my place; and I have given charge that he should be for a prince over Israel and Judah. ³⁶ And Benaiah the son of Jehoiada answered the king and said, So let it be: may the Lord God of my lord the king confirm it. ³⁷ As the Lord was with my lord the king, so let Him be with Solomon, and let Him exalt his throne beyond the throne of my lord King David. ³⁸ And Zadok the priest went down, and Nathan the prophet, and Benaiah son of Jehoiada, and the Cherethites, and the Pelethites, and they mounted Solomon upon the mule of King David, and led him away to Gihon. ³⁹ And Zadok the priest took the horn of oil out of the tabernacle, and anointed Solomon, and blew the trumpet; and all the people said, Long live King Solomon! ⁴⁰ And all the people went up after him, and they danced in choirs, and rejoiced with great joy, and the earth quaked with their voice. ⁴¹ And Adonijah and all his guests heard, and they had just left off eating. And Joab heard the sound of the trumpet, and said, Why is the voice of the city in tumult? ⁴² While he was yet speaking, behold, Jonathan the son of Abiathar the priest came in. And Adonijah said, Come in, for you are a mighty man, and you come to bring good news. ⁴³ And Jonathan answered and said, Verily our lord King David has made Solomon king; ⁴⁴ and the king has sent with him Zadok the priest, and Nathan the prophet, and Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, and the Cherethites, and the Pelethites, and they have mounted him on the king's mule; ⁴⁵ and Zadok the priest and Nathan the prophet have anointed him in Gihon, and have gone up from there rejoicing, and the city has resounded: this is the sound which you have heard. ⁴⁶ And Solomon is seated upon the throne of the kingdom. ⁴⁷ And the servants of the king have gone in to bless our lord King David, saying, God make the name of Solomon better than your name, and make his throne greater than your throne; and the king worshipped upon his bed. ⁴⁸ Moreover thus said the king, Blessed be the Lord God of Israel, who has this day appointed one of my seed sitting on my throne, and my eyes have seen it. ⁴⁹ And all the guests of Adonijah were dismayed, and every man went his way. ⁵⁰ And Adonijah feared because of Solomon, and arose, and departed, and laid hold on the horns of the altar. ⁵¹ And it was reported to Solomon, saying, Behold, Adonijah fears King Solomon, and holds the horns of the altar, saying, Let Solomon swear to me this day, that he will not slay his servant with the sword. ⁵² And Solomon said, If he should be a valiant man, there shall not a hair of his head fall to the ground; but if evil be found in him, he shall die. ⁵³ And King Solomon sent, and they brought him away from the altar; and he went in and bowed down to King Solomon. And Solomon said to him, Go to your house.

²⁶ And the king said to Abiathar the priest, Depart quickly to Anathoth, to your farm, for you are worthy of death this day; but I will not slay you, because you have borne the ark of the covenant of the Lord before my father, and because you were afflicted in all things in which my father was afflicted. ²⁷ And Solomon removed Abiathar from being a priest of the Lord, that the word of the Lord might be fulfilled, which he spoke concerning the house of Eli in Shiloh.

³⁵ And the king appointed Benaiah son of Jehoiada in his place over the army; and the kingdom was established in Jerusalem. And as for Zadok the priest, the king appointed him to be high priest in place of Abiathar. And Solomon son of David reigned over Israel and Judah in Jerusalem. And the Lord gave understanding to Solomon, and very much wisdom, and largeness of heart, as the sand by the seashore.

⁸ But Your servant is in the midst of Your people whom You have chosen, a great people, which cannot be numbered.

¹² behold, I have done according to your word: behold, I have given you an understanding and wise heart: there has not been anyone like you before you, and after you there shall not arise one like you.

²⁸ And all Israel heard this judgment which the king judged, and they feared before the king; because they saw that the wisdom of God was in him, to execute judgment.

⁷ And Solomon had twelve officers over all Israel, to provide for the king and his household; each one's turn came to supply for a month in the year.

²⁴ For he had dominion on this side of the river, and he was at peace on all sides round about.

⁷ And it came to pass, as soon as Hiram heard the words of Solomon, that he rejoiced greatly, and said, Blessed be God this day, who has given to David a wise son over this numerous people.

¹³ And the king raised a levy out of all Israel, and the levy was thirty thousand men. ¹⁴ And he sent them to Lebanon, ten thousand taking turn every month; they were a month in Lebanon and two months at home; and Adoniram was over the levy.

¹⁵ This was the arrangement of the provision which King Solomon fetched to build the house of the Lord, and the house of the king, and the wall of Jerusalem, and the citadel; to fortify the City of David, and Assyria, and Migdol, and Gezer, and Beth Horon the upper, and Jethermath, and all the cities of the chariots, and all the cities of the horsemen, and the fortification of Solomon which he purposed to build in Jerusalem and in all the land,

¹ Now the queen of Sheba heard of the name of Solomon, and the name of the Lord, and she came to test him with riddles.

⁶ And she said to King Solomon, It was a true report which I heard in my land of your words and your wisdom.

²³ And Solomon increased beyond all the kings of the earth in wealth and wisdom. ²⁴ And all the kings of the earth sought the presence of Solomon, to hear his wisdom which the Lord had put into his heart. ²⁵ And everyone their own gifts, vessels of gold, articles of clothing, armor, spices, horses, and mules, a rate year by year. ²⁶ And Solomon had four thousand mares for his chariots, and twelve thousand horsemen; and he put them in the cities of his chariots, and with the king in Jerusalem. And he ruled over all the kings from the river to the land of the Philistines, and to the borders of Egypt.

¹³ Only I will not take away the whole kingdom; I will give one tribe to your son for David My servant's sake, and for the sake of Jerusalem, the city which I have chosen.

³⁵ But I will take the kingdom out of the hand of his son, and give you ten tribes. ³⁶ But to his son I will give the two remaining tribes, that My servant David may have an establishment continually before Me in Jerusalem, the city which I have chosen for Myself, to put My name there.

¹⁸ And the king sent Adoniram who was over the tribute; and they stoned him with stones, and he died. And King Rehoboam made haste to rise and flee to Jerusalem. ¹⁹ So Israel rebelled against the house of David until this day. ²⁰ And it came to pass when all Israel heard that Jeroboam had returned out of Egypt, that they sent and called him to the assembly, and they made him king over Israel; and none followed the house of David except the tribe of Judah and Benjamin only.

⁴⁶ And the hand of the Lord was upon Elijah, and he girded up his loins, and ran before Ahab to Jezreel.

¹⁶ And Jehu the son of Nimshi shall you anoint to be king over Israel; and Elisha the son of Shaphat shall you anoint to be prophet in your place.

³ And the king of Israel said to his servants, Do you know that Ramoth Gilead is ours, and we are slow to take it out of the hand of the king of Syria?

²³ By your messengers you have reproached the Lord, and have said, I will go up with the multitude of my chariots, to the height of the mountains, to the sides of Lebanon, and I have cut down the height of his cedar, and his choice cypresses; and I have come into the midst of the forest and of Carmel.

²⁹ And in his days Pharaoh Necho king of Egypt went up against the king of the Assyrians, to the River Euphrates; and Josiah went out to meet him. And Necho killed him in Megiddo when he saw him. ³⁰ And his servants carried him dead from Megiddo, and brought him to Jerusalem, and buried him in his tomb. And the people of the land took Jehoahaz the son of Josiah, and anointed him, and made him king in the place of his father.

⁶ And the sons of Zerah were Zimri, Ethan, Heman, Calcol, and Dara — five in all.

⁸ Ahitub begot Zadok, and Zadok begot Ahimaaz; ⁹ Ahimaaz begot Azariah, and Azariah begot Johanan; ¹⁰ Johanan begot Azariah (he ministered as priest in the house which Solomon built in Jerusalem);

³³ And these were the men that stood, and their sons, of the sons of Kohath: Heman the psalm singer, son of Joel, the son of Samuel,

³⁸ All these were men of war, setting the army in battle array, with a peaceful mind towards him, and they came to Hebron to make David king over all Israel. And the rest of Israel were of one mind to make David king. ³⁹ And they were there three days eating and drinking, for their brethren had made preparations.

¹⁷ So the Levites appointed Heman the son of Joel; Asaph the son of Berechiah was one of his brethren; and Ethan the son of Kushaiah was of the sons of Merari their brethren;

⁶ And David put a garrison in Syria near Damascus; and they became tributary servants to David. And the Lord delivered David wherever he went.

⁹ Behold, a son shall be born to you, he shall be a man of rest; and I will give him rest from all his enemies round about; for his name shall be Solomon, and I will give peace and quietness to Israel in his days.

¹ Now the sons of Israel according to their number, heads of families, captains of thousands and captains of hundreds, and scribes ministering to the king, and for every affair of the king according to their divisions, for every ordinance of coming in and going out monthly, for all the months of the year, one division of them was twenty-four thousand. ² And over the first division of the first month was Jashobeam the son of Zabdiel; in his division were twenty-four thousand. ³ Of the sons of Perez one was chief of all the captains of the army for the first month. ⁴ And over the division of the second month was Dodai an Ahohite, and over his division was Mikloth also chief; and in his division were twenty-four thousand, chief men of the army. ⁵ The third for the third month was Benaiah the son of Jehoiada the chief priest; and in his division were twenty-four thousand. ⁶ This Benaiah was more mighty than the thirty, and over the thirty; and Ammizabad his son was over his division. ⁷ The fourth for the fourth month was Asahel the brother of Joab, and Zebadiah his son, and his brethren; and in his division were twenty-four thousand. ⁸ The fifth chief for the fifth month was Shamhuth the Izrahite; and in his division were twenty-four thousand. ⁹ The sixth for the sixth month was Ira the son of Ikkesh the Tekoite; and in his division were twenty-four thousand. ¹⁰ The seventh for the seventh month was Helez of Pelonite of the children of Ephraim; and in his division were twenty-four thousand. ¹¹ The eighth for the eighth month was Sibbechai the Hushathite, belonging to Zarai: and in his division were twenty-four thousand. ¹² The ninth for the ninth month was Abiezer of Anathoth, of the land of Benjamin; and in his division were twenty-four thousand. ¹³ The tenth for the tenth month was Maharai the Netophathite, belonging to Zarai; and in his division were twenty-four thousand. ¹⁴ The eleventh for the eleventh month was Benaiah of Pirath, of the sons of Ephraim; and in his division were twenty-four thousand. ¹⁵ The twelfth for the twelfth month was Heldai the Netophathite, belonging to Othniel; and in his division were twenty-four thousand.

¹⁷ for Levi, Hashabiah the son of Kemuel; for Aaron, Zadok;

³³ Ahithophel was the king's counselor, and Hushai the chief friend of the king.

¹⁰ Now give me wisdom and understanding, I pray, that I may go out and come in before this people: for who shall judge this, Your great people? ¹¹ And God said to Solomon, Because this was in your heart, and you have not asked for great wealth, nor glory, nor the life of your enemies, and you have not asked for long life; but have asked for yourself wisdom and understanding, that you might judge My people, over whom I have made you king; ¹² I give you this wisdom and understanding; and I will give you wealth, and riches, and glory, so that there shall not have been any like you among the kings before you, neither shall there be such after you.

¹⁴ And Solomon collected chariots and horsemen; and he had fourteen hundred chariots, and twelve thousand horsemen; and he set them in the cities of chariots, and the people were with the king in Jerusalem.

²⁰ And there were powerful kings in Jerusalem, and they ruled over all the country beyond the river, and abundant revenues and tribute were given to them.

¹⁷ And the Jews, to the number of a hundred and fifty men, besides those coming to us from the nations round about, were at my table. ¹⁸ And there came to me for one day one calf, and I had six choice sheep and a goat; and every ten days wine in abundance of all sorts. Yet with these I required not the bread of extortion, because the bondage was heavy upon this people.

¹⁰ And they were written by order of the king, and sealed with his ring, and they sent the letters by couriers.

¹⁴ So the horsemen went forth with haste to perform the king's commands; and the ordinance was also published in Susa.

³ And his substance consisted of seven thousand sheep, three thousand camels, five hundred yoke of oxen, five hundred female donkeys in the pastures, and a very great household, and he had a great husbandry on the earth; and that man was most noble of the men of the east.

¹⁸ While he was yet speaking, another messenger came and said to Job, While your sons and your daughters were eating and drinking with their older brother,

Pause. ³⁸ But You have cast off and set at nought, You have rejected Your anointed. ³⁹ You have overthrown the covenant of Your servant; You have profaned his sanctuary, casting it to the ground. ⁴⁰ You have broken down all his hedges; You have made his strongholds a terror. ⁴¹ All that go by the way have spoiled him; he has become a reproach to his neighbors. ⁴² You have exalted the right hand of his enemies; You have made all his enemies to rejoice. ⁴³ You have turned back the help of his sword, and have not helped him in the battle. ⁴⁴ You have deprived him of glory; You have broken down his throne to the ground. ⁴⁵ You have shortened the days of his throne; You have poured shame upon him. Pause. ⁴⁶ How long, O Lord? Will You turn away, forever? Shall Your anger flame out as fire? ⁴⁷ Remember what my being is; for have You created all the sons of men in vain? ⁴⁸ What man is there who shall live, and not see death? Shall anyone deliver his soul from the hand of Hades? Pause. ⁴⁹ Where are Your ancient mercies, O Lord, which You swore to David in Your truth? ⁵⁰ Remember, O Lord, the reproach of Your servants, which I have borne in my bosom, even the reproach of many nations; ⁵¹ with which Your enemies have reviled, O Lord; with which they have reviled the recompense of Your anointed. ⁵² Blessed be the Lord forever. ¹ The Proverbs of Solomon son of David, who reigned in Israel: ² to know wisdom and instruction, and to perceive words of understanding; ³ to receive also hard sayings, and to understand true justice, and how to direct judgment; ⁴ that he might give prudence to the simple, and to the young man discernment and understanding. ⁵ For by the hearing of these a wise man will be wiser, and a man of understanding will gain direction; ⁶ and will understand a parable, and an enigma; the saying of the wise also, and riddles. ⁷ The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom; and there is good understanding to all that practice it: and godliness toward God is the beginning of discernment; but the ungodly will nullify wisdom and instruction. ⁸ Hear, my son, the instruction of your father, and reject not the rules of your mother. ⁹ For you shall receive a crown of grace for your head, and a chain of gold around your neck. ¹⁰ My son, let not ungodly men lead you astray, neither shall you consent to them. ¹¹ If they should exhort you, saying, Come with us, partake in blood, and let us unjustly hide the just man in the earth: ¹² and let us swallow him alive, as Hades would, and remove the memorial of him from the earth: ¹³ let us seize on his valuable property, and let us fill our houses with spoils: ¹⁴ but cast in your lot with us, and let us all provide a common purse, and let us have one pouch: ¹⁵ go not in the way with them, let your foot turn aside from their paths: ¹⁶ (TEXT OMITTED) ¹⁷ for nets are not spread for the birds without cause. ¹⁸ For they that are concerned in murder store up evils for themselves; and the overthrow of transgressors is evil. ¹⁹ These are the ways of all that perform lawless deeds; for by ungodliness they destroy their own life. ²⁰ Wisdom sings aloud in passages, and in the broad places speaks boldly. ²¹ And she makes proclamation on the top of the walls, and sits by the gates of princes; and at the gates of the city boldly says, ²² So long as the simple cleave to justice, they shall not be ashamed: but the foolish being lovers of haughtiness, having become ungodly have hated knowledge, and have become subject to reproofs. ²³ Behold, I will bring forth to you the utterance of my breath, and I will instruct you in my speech. ²⁴ Since I called, and you did not hear, and I spoke at length, and you gave no heed; ²⁵ but you disdained my counsels, and disregarded my reproofs; ²⁶ therefore I also will laugh at your destruction; and I will rejoice against you when ruin comes upon you: ²⁷ yea when dismay suddenly comes upon you, and your overthrow shall arrive like a tempest; and when tribulation and distress shall come upon you, or when ruin shall come upon you. ²⁸ For it shall be that when you call upon me, I will not listen to you: wicked men shall seek me, but shall not find me. ²⁹ For they hated wisdom, and did not choose the word of the Lord: ³⁰ neither would they attend to my counsels, but derided my reproofs. ³¹ Therefore shall they eat the fruits of their own way, and shall be filled with their own ungodliness.

⁶ For the Lord gives wisdom, and from His presence come knowledge and understanding,

²⁸ In a populous nation is the glory of a king, but in the failure of people is the ruin of a prince.

¹¹ The Lord loves holy hearts, and all blameless persons are acceptable to Him; a king rules with his lips.

¹² I, the Preacher, was king over Israel in Jerusalem.

¹⁶ I spoke in my heart, saying, Behold, I have attained, and acquired wisdom beyond all who were before me in Jerusalem. Also I applied my heart to know wisdom and knowledge.

²⁴ A man has nothing good to eat, and to drink, and to show his soul as good in his trouble. This also I saw, that it is from the hand of God.

²⁶ For God has given wisdom, knowledge, and joy to the man who is good in His sight, but He has given to the sinner trouble, to add and to heap up, that He may give to him that is good before God; for this is also vanity and grasping for the wind.

⁹ And because the Preacher was wise above others, so it was that he taught men excellent knowledge, and the ear will trace out the parables.

¹ The Song of songs, which is Solomon's. ² Let him kiss me with the kisses of his mouth: for your breasts are better than wine. ³ And the smell of your ointments is better than all spices: your name is ointment poured forth; therefore do the young maidens love you. ⁴ They have drawn you: we will run after you, for the smell of your ointments: the king has brought me into his closet: let us rejoice and be glad in you; we will love your breasts more than wine: righteousness loves you. ⁵ I am dark, but beautiful, you daughters of Jerusalem, as the tents of Kedar, as the curtains of Solomon. ⁶ Look not upon me, because I am dark, because the sun has looked unfavorably upon me: my mother's sons strove with me; they made me keeper in the vineyards; I have not kept my own vineyard. ⁷ Tell me, you whom my soul loves, where you tend your flock, where you cause them to rest at noon, lest I become as one that is veiled by the flocks of your companions. ⁸ If you know not yourself, you fair one among women, go forth by the footsteps of the flocks, and feed your little goats by the shepherd's tents. ⁹ I have likened you, my companion, to my horses in the chariots of Pharaoh. ¹⁰ How beautiful are your cheeks, as those of a dove, your neck as chains! ¹¹ We will make you figures of gold with studs of silver. ¹² So long as the king was at table, my spikenard gave forth its smell. ¹³ My kinsman is to me a bundle of myrrh; he shall lie between my breasts. ¹⁴ My kinsman is to me a cluster of camphor in the vineyards of En Gedi. ¹⁵ Behold, you are fair, my companion; behold, you are fair; your eyes are doves. ¹⁶ Behold, you are fair, my kinsman, yea, beautiful, overshadowing our bed. ¹⁷ The beams of our house are cedars, our ceilings are of cypress.

² For in the last days the mountain of the Lord shall be glorious, and the house of God shall be on the top of the mountains, and it shall be exalted above the hills; and all nations shall come to it.

⁷ His government shall be great, and of His peace there is no end; it shall be upon the throne of David, and upon His kingdom, to establish it, and to support it with judgment and with righteousness, from this time forward and forevermore. The zeal of the Lord of hosts shall perform this.

¹¹ And the princes of Tanis shall be fools; as for the king's wise counselors, their counsel shall be turned into folly; how will you say to the king, we are sons of wise men, sons of ancient kings? ¹² Where are your wise men now? And let them declare to you, and say, What has the Lord of hosts purposed upon Egypt?

¹³ but they engaged in joy and gladness, slaying calves, and killing sheep, so as to eat flesh, and drink wine; saying, Let us eat and drink; for tomorrow we die.

⁵ Then shall you see, and fear, and be amazed in your heart; for the wealth of the sea shall come round to you, and of nations and peoples; and herds of camels shall come to you,

¹⁸ And injustice shall no more be heard in your land, nor destruction nor misery in your coasts; but your walls shall be called Salvation, and your gates Sculptured Work.

⁶ And on your walls, O Jerusalem, have I set watchmen all day and all night, who shall never cease making mention of the Lord.

⁵ Behold, the days are coming, says the Lord, when I will raise up to David a righteous branch, and a king shall reign and understand, and shall execute judgment and righteousness on the earth. ⁶ In his days both Judah shall be saved, and Israel shall dwell securely. And this is his name, which the Lord shall call Him, Josedek among the prophets.

¹¹ And you shall say, I will go up to the rejected land; I will come upon them that are at ease in tranquility, and dwelling in peace, all inhabiting a land in which there is no wall, nor bars, nor have they doors;

²⁰ And in every matter of wisdom and knowledge wherein the king questioned them, he found them ten times wiser than all the enchanters and sorcerers that were in all his kingdom.

⁷ So the enchanters, magicians, soothsayers, and Chaldeans came in, and I told the dream before them; but they did not make known to me its interpretation;

¹¹ There is a man in your kingdom, in whom is the Spirit of God; and in the days of your father watchfulness and understanding were found in him; and King Nebuchadnezzar your father made him chief of the enchanters, magicians, Chaldeans, and soothsayers. ¹² For there is an excellent spirit in him, and sense and understanding is in him, interpreting dreams as he does, and answering hard questions, and solving riddles. It is Daniel, and the king gave him the name of Belteshazzar. Now then let him be called, and he shall tell you the interpretation of the writing.

¹³ even a sound of chariots and horsemen: the inhabitants of Lachish, she is the leader of sin to the daughter of Zion: for in you were found the transgressions of Israel.

⁴ And everyone shall rest under his vine, and everyone under his fig tree; and no one shall alarm them: for the mouth of the Lord Almighty has spoken these words.

⁹ Destruction shall come upon ungodly men, resisting with their adverse front, and he shall gather the captivity as the sand.

^{10 (3:11)} In that day, says the Lord Almighty, you shall call together every man his neighbor under the vine and under the fig tree.

²³ Thus says the Lord Almighty; In those days My word shall be fulfilled if ten men of all the languages of the nations should take hold — even take hold of the hem of a Jew, saying, We will go with you; for we have heard that God is with you.

¹⁵ The Lord Almighty shall protect them, and they shall destroy them, and overwhelm them with slingstones; and they shall swallow them down as wine, and fill the bowls as the altar.

¹³ the family of the house of Levi by itself, and their wives by themselves; the family of Simeon by itself, and their wives by themselves;

¹ Now after Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea, in the days of Herod the king, behold, wise men from the East arrived in Jerusalem,

¹⁶ Then Herod, seeing that he had been deceived by the wise men, was greatly enraged; and he sent and executed all the boys in Bethlehem and in all its districts, from two years old and under, according to the time which he had ascertained from the wise men.

²⁴ And the report of Him went throughout all Syria; and they brought to Him all those were ill, suffering with various diseases and torments, and those who were demon-possessed, epileptics, and paralytics; and He healed them.

⁴² The queen of the South shall rise up in the judgment with this generation and she shall condemn it, because she came from the ends of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon; and behold, a greater than Solomon is here.

³⁵ so that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, saying: "I will open My mouth in parables; I will utter things having been hidden from the foundation of the world."

¹⁴ "Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, goodwill toward men!"

³¹ The queen of the South shall rise up in the judgment with the men of this generation and shall condemn them, because she came from the ends of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon; and indeed one greater than Solomon is here.

²³ Now there was reclining on Jesus' bosom one of His disciples, the one whom Jesus loved.

¹⁴ You are My friends if you do what I command you. ¹⁵ No longer do I call you servants, because a servant does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, because all things which I heard from My Father I have made known to you.

⁴⁶ So continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, they were sharing food with joy and simplicity of heart,

²² And Moses was educated in all the wisdom of the Egyptians, and he was mighty in words and deeds.

²⁸ And those whom God has appointed in the church are: first apostles, second prophets, third teachers, then miracles, then gifts of healings, helps, administrations, kinds of tongues.

³ in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.

¹ For this Melchizedek, king of Salem, priest of the Most High God, who met Abraham returning from the slaughter of the kings and blessed him, ² to whom also Abraham divided a tenth from all, first being interpreted "king of righteousness," and then also king of Salem, which is "king of peace,"

¹⁹ For when every commandment had been spoken by Moses according to law to all the people, he took the blood of calves and goats, with water, scarlet wool, and hyssop, and sprinkled both the book itself and all the people,

⁵ If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all generously and without reproach, and it shall be given to him.

¹⁷ Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow of turning.

²³ And the Scripture was fulfilled which says, "Abraham believed God, and it was accounted to him for righteousness." And he was called a friend of God.

¹⁷ But the wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, willing to yield, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality and without hypocrisy.
