And Saul said, God has sold him into my hands, for he is shut up, having entered into a city that has gates and bars. ⁸ And Saul charged all the people to go down to war to Keilah, to besiege David and his men. ⁹ And David knew that Saul spoke openly of mischief against him. So David said to Abiathar the priest, Bring the ephod of the Lord. ¹⁰ And David said, O Lord God of Israel, Your servant has indeed heard, that Saul seeks to come against Keilah to destroy the city on my account. ¹¹ Will the place be shut up? And now will Saul come down, as Your servant has heard? Lord God of Israel, tell Your servant. And Saul sought him continually, but the Lord delivered him not into his hands. ¹⁵ And David perceived that Saul went forth to seek him. And David was in the dry mountain in the New Ziph. ¹⁶ And Jonathan son of Saul arose, and went to David to Caene, and strengthened his hands in the Lord. ¹⁷ And he said to him, Fear not, for the hand of Saul my father shall not find you; and you shall be king over Israel, and I shall be second to you; and Saul my father knows it. ¹⁸ So they both made a covenant before the Lord; and David dwelt in Caene, and Jonathan went to his home. ¹⁹ And the Ziphites came up out of the dry country to Saul to the hill, saying, Behold, is not David hidden with us in Messara, in the narrows in Caene in the hill of Echela, which is on the right of Jeshimon? ²⁰ And now according to all the king's desire to come down, let him come down to us; they have shut him up into the hands of the king. ²¹ And Saul said to them, Blessed are you of the Lord, for you have been grieved on my account. ²² Go, I pray, and make preparations yet, and notice his place where his foot shall be, quickly, in that place which you spoke of, lest by any means he should deal craftily. ²³ Take notice, then, and learn, and I will go with you. And it shall come to pass that if he is in the land, I will search him out among all the thousands of Judah. ²⁴ And the Ziphites arose, and went before Saul. And David and his men were in the Wilderness of Maon, westward, to the right of Jeshimon. ²⁵ And Saul and his men went to seek him. And they brought word to David, and he went down to the rock that was in the Wilderness of Maon. And Saul heard, and followed after David to the wilderness of Maon. ²⁶ And Saul and his men went on one side of the mountain, and David and his men on the other side of the mountain. And David was hiding himself to escape from Saul; and Saul and his men encamped against David and his men, in order to take them. ²⁷ And a messenger came to Saul, saying, Make haste and come here, for the Philistines have invaded the land! ²⁸ So Saul returned from following after David, and went to meet the Philistines. Therefore that place was called The Divided Rock. ^{29 (24:1)} Then David rose up from there, and dwelt in the narrow passes of En Gedi.

¹⁶ then will I do thus to you: I will even bring upon you perplexity and the itch, and the fever that causes your eyes to waste away, and disease that consumes your life; and you shall sow your seeds in vain, and your enemies shall eat them.

³³ A nation which you know not shall eat the produce of your land, and all your labors; and you shall be perpetually injured and crushed.

⁵¹ And it shall eat up the young of your livestock, and the fruits of your land, so as not to leave to you grain, wine, oil, the herds of your oxen, and the flocks of your sheep, until it has destroyed you;

⁴⁴ Keilah, Akiezi, Achzib, Mereshah, and Elom: ten cities, and their villages;

⁴ And they encamped against them, and destroyed their fruits until they came to Gaza; and they left not the support of life in the land of Israel, not even ox or donkey among the herds.

¹¹ And an angel of the Lord came, and sat down under the fir tree, which was in Ephratha in the land of Joash father of Esdri. And Gideon his son was threshing wheat in a wine press in order to escape from the face of Midian.

¹⁷ After him repaired the Levites, even Rehum the son of Bani. Next to him repaired Hashabiah, ruler of half the district round about Keilah, in his district. ¹⁸ And after him repaired his brothers, Bavai son of Henadad, ruler of half the district round about Keilah.

¹⁵ You shall sow, but you shall not reap; you shall press the olive, but you shall not anoint yourself with oil; and shall make wine, but you shall drink no wine: and the ordinances of My people shall be utterly abolished.

²¹ And he shall stand before Eleazar the priest, and they shall ask of him before the Lord the judgment of the Urim. They shall go forth at his word, and at his word they shall come in, he and the children of Israel with one accord, and all the congregation.

¹⁴ And the chiefs took of their provisions, and asked not the counsel of the Lord.

¹ And it came to pass after the death of Joshua, that the children of Israel inquired of the Lord, saying, Who shall go up for us first against the Canaanites, to fight against them?

⁴ And David inquired yet again of the Lord; and the Lord answered him, and said to him, Arise and go down to Keilah, for I will deliver the Philistines into your hands.

⁶ And it came to pass when Abiathar the son of Abimelech fled to David, that he went down with David to Keilah, having and ephod in his hand.

⁹ And David knew that Saul spoke openly of mischief against him. So David said to Abiathar the priest, Bring the ephod of the Lord. ¹⁰ And David said, O Lord God of Israel, Your servant has indeed heard, that Saul seeks to come against Keilah to destroy the city on my account. ¹¹ Will the place be shut up? And now will Saul come down, as Your servant has heard? Lord God of Israel, tell Your servant. And the Lord said, It will be shut up. ¹² (TEXT OMITTED)

⁸ And David inquired of the Lord, saying, Shall I pursue after this troop? Shall I overtake them? And He said to him, Pursue, for you shall surely overtake them, and you shall surely rescue the captives.

¹⁹ And David inquired of the Lord, saying, Shall I go up against the Philistines? And will You deliver them into my hands? And the Lord said to David, Go up, for I will surely deliver the Philistines into your hands.

²³ And David inquired of the Lord. And the Lord said, You shall not go up to meet them: turn from them, and you shall meet them near the Place of Weeping.

¹⁰ And David inquired of God, saying, Shall I go up against the Philistines? And will You deliver them into my hand? And the Lord said to him, Go up, and I will deliver them into your hands.

⁸ I will instruct you and guide you in the way you should go; I will fix My eyes upon you.

⁵ Trust in God with all your heart; and be not exalted in your own wisdom. ⁶ In all your ways acquaint yourself with her, that she may rightly direct your paths.

²³ I know, O Lord, that man's way is not his own; neither shall a man go, and direct his going.

¹⁵ And David perceived that Saul went forth to seek him. And David was in the dry mountain in the New Ziph.

²³ Take notice, then, and learn, and I will go with you. And it shall come to pass that if he is in the land, I will search him out among all the thousands of Judah.

²⁶ And Saul and his men went on one side of the mountain, and David and his men on the other side of the mountain. And David was hiding himself to escape from Saul; and Saul and his men encamped against David and his men, in order to take them.

¹ For the end, A Psalm of David. In the Lord I have put my trust: how will you say to my soul, Flee to the mountains as a sparrow?

⁵ Your feet run, and they cause you to faint; how will you prepare to ride upon horses? And you have been confident in the land of your peace? How will you do in the roaring of the Jordan?

⁷ And you shall rise up out of the ambush, and go into the city.

³⁹ And Gideon said to God, Let not Your anger be kindled with me, and I will speak yet once; I will even yet make one trial more with the fleece: let now the drought be upon the fleece only, and let there be dew on all the ground.

⁷ And the Lord said to Gideon, I will save you by the three hundred men that lapped, and I will give Midian into your hand; and all the rest of the people shall go everyone to his place.

⁶ So Saul inquired of the Lord, and the Lord answered him not by dreams, nor by manifestations, nor by prophets.

¹⁸ And this is a light thing in the eyes of the Lord: I will also deliver Moab into your hand.

³⁰ And you shall put the Manifestation and the Truth on the breastplate of judgment; and it shall be on the breast of Aaron, when he goes into the holy place before the Lord; and Aaron shall bear the judgments of the children of Israel on his breast before the Lord continually. ³¹ And you shall make the full-length tunic all of blue.

³ And Ahijah son of Ahitub, Ichabod's brother, the son of Phinehas, the son of Eli, God's priest in Shiloh, was wearing an ephod. And the people knew not that Jonathan was gone.

¹⁸ And Saul said to Ahijah, Bring the ephod; for he wore the ephod in that day before Israel.

³⁶ And Saul said, Let us go down after the Philistines this night, and let us plunder among them till daybreak, and let us not leave a man among them. And they said, Do all that is good in your sight. And the priest said, let us draw near to God here. ³⁷ And Saul inquired of God, If I go down after the Philistines, will You deliver them into the hands of Israel? And He answered him not in that day.

²⁰ And one son of Abimelech son of Ahitub escaped, and his name was Abiathar, and he fled after David.

³ And Pharaoh will say to his people, As for these children of Israel, they are wandering in the land, for the wilderness has shut them in.

⁹ The enemy said, I will pursue, I will overtake, I will divide the spoils; I will satisfy my soul, I will destroy with my sword, my hand shall have dominion.

² And it was reported to the Gazites, saying, Sampson has come here. And they surrounded him and laid wait for him all night in the gate of the city, and they were quiet all the night, saying, Let us wait till the dawn appear, and we will kill him. ³ And Sampson slept till midnight, and rose up at midnight, and took hold of the doors of the gate of the city with the two posts, and lifted them up with the bar, and laid them on his shoulders, and he went up to the top of the mountain that is before Hebron, and laid them there.

¹⁴ And he dwelt in Maserim in the wilderness, in the narrow passes; and dwelt in the wilderness in Mount Ziph, in the dry country. And Saul sought him continually, but the Lord delivered him not into his hands.

^{4 (24:5)} And the men of David said to him, Behold, this is the day of which the Lord spoke to you, that He would deliver your enemy into your hands; and you shall do to him as it is good in your sight. So David arose and cut off the skirt of Saul's garment secretly. ^{5 (24:6)} And it came to pass after this that David's heart troubled him because he had cut off the skirt of his garment. ^{6 (24:7)} And David said to his men, The Lord forbid that I should do this thing to my master, the Lord's anointed, to lift my hand against him; for he is the anointed of the Lord.

⁸ And Abishai said to David, The Lord has delivered your enemy into your hands this day, and now I will strike him to the earth with this spear, once for all, and I will not have to strike him again. ⁹ And David said to Abishai, Do not lay him low, for who shall lift up his hand against the Lord's anointed and be guiltless?

⁵ But the mirth of the ungodly is a signal downfall, and the joy of transgressors is destruction:

¹⁰ For my enemies have spoken against me; and they that lay wait for my soul have taken counsel together, ¹¹ saying, God has forsaken him: persecute him, and take him; for there is none to deliver him.

⁴³ For days will come upon you when your enemies will build an embankment around you, surround you and hem you in from every side, ⁴⁴ and they will level you to the ground, and your children with you; and they will not leave in you one stone upon another, because you did not know the season of your visitation."

⁷ And David said to Abiathar the priest the son of Ahimelech, Bring the ephod here to me.

¹⁸ O Lord, teach me, and I shall know: then I saw their practices. ¹⁹ But I, as an innocent lamb led to the slaughter, did not know. Against me they devised an evil device, saying, Come and let us put wood into his bread, and let us utterly destroy him from off the land of the living, and let his name not be remembered any more.

³ Cry out to Me, and I will answer you, and I will declare to you great and mighty things, which you know not.

²⁴ But their plot became known to Saul. And they closely watched the city gates both day and night, in order that they might kill him.

⁶ they became aware of it and fled to the cities of Lycaonia, Lystra and Derbe, and to the surrounding region.

¹⁶ But when Paul's sister's son heard about the ambush, he came and entered into the barracks, and told this to Paul. ¹⁷ And Paul, summoning one of the centurions and said, "Lead this young man away to the commander, for he has something to tell him." ¹⁸ Therefore taking him along, he brought him to the commander and said, "The prisoner Paul, having summoned me, asked me to bring this young man to you, for he has something to say to you."

²⁴ Should there be fifty righteous in the city, will You destroy them? Will You not spare the whole place for the sake of the fifty righteous, if they be in it?

¹⁹ And he struck Nob, the city of the priest, with the edge of the sword, both man and woman, infant and suckling, calf and ox, and also sheep.

⁸ And Saul charged all the people to go down to war to Keilah, to besiege David and his men.

⁶ and took counsel to utterly destroy all the Jews who were under the rule of Artaxerxes.

¹⁵ A hungry lion and a thirsty wolf is he, who, being poor, rules over a poor nation.

¹⁵ Their feet are swift to shed blood; ¹⁶ Ruin and misery are in their ways;

¹⁵ And call upon Me in the day of affliction; and I shall deliver you, and you shall glorify Me. Pause.

⁷ "Ask, and it shall be given to you; seek, and you shall find; knock, and it shall be opened to you. ⁸ For everyone that asks receives, and he that seeks finds, and to him that knocks, it shall be opened.

⁷ And it was told Saul that David had come to Keilah. And Saul said, God has sold him into my hands, for he is shut up, having entered into a city that has gates and bars.

²⁰ And now according to all the king's desire to come down, let him come down to us; they have shut him up into the hands of the king.

⁸ And You have not shut me up into the hands of the enemy; You have set my feet in a wide place.

¹ For the end, A Psalm of David to Jeduthun. Shall not my soul be subjected to God? For from Him is my salvation.

⁸ It is better to trust in the Lord than to trust in man.

¹⁴ Suppose there were a little city, and few men in it; and there should come against it a great king, and surround it, and build great mounds against it; ¹⁵ and should find in it a poor wise man, and he should save the city through his wisdom: yet no man would remember that poor man.

¹⁵ Woe to them that deepen their counsel, and not by the Lord. Woe to them that take secret counsel, and whose works are in darkness, and they say, Who has seen us? And who shall know us, or what we do?

¹³ And there is no creature hidden before Him, but all things are naked and open to His eyes, to whom we must give an account.

² And everyone that was in distress, and everyone that was in debt, and everyone that was troubled in mind gathered to him there, and he was a leader over them, and there were with him about four hundred men.

¹³ And David said to his men, Gird on every man his sword. And they went up after David, about four hundred men. And two hundred stayed with the supplies.

⁹ So David went, he and the six hundred men with him, and they came as far as the brook Besor, and the superfluous ones stopped . ¹⁰ And he pursued them with four hundred men; and two hundred men remained behind, who tarried on the other side of the brook Besor.

²⁰ Whereas you came yesterday, shall I today cause you to travel with us, and shall you thus change your place? You came forth yesterday, and today shall I set you in motion to go along with us? I indeed will go wherever I may go: return then, and cause your brethren to return with you, and may the Lord deal mercifully and truly with you.

²⁴ and Balmaenan, and their villages,

⁵⁵ Maon, Carmel, Ziph, Juttah,

¹ And David said in his heart, Now shall I be one day delivered for death into the hands of Saul; and there is nothing better for me unless I should escape into the land of the Philistines, and Saul should cease from seeking me through every coast of Israel. So I shall escape out of his hand.

¹ For the end, A Psalm of David. In the Lord I have put my trust: how will you say to my soul, Flee to the mountains as a sparrow? ² For behold the sinners have bent their bow, they have prepared their arrows for the quiver, to shoot secretly at the upright in heart. ³ For they have pulled down what You framed, but what has the righteous done?

⁷ You are my refuge from the affliction that encompasses me; my joy, to deliver me from them that have compassed me. Pause.

³² The sinner watches the righteous, and seeks to slay him. ³³ But the Lord will not leave him in his hands, nor by any means condemn him when he is judged.

³ For strangers have risen up against me, and mighty men have sought my life; they have not set God before them. Pause. ⁴ Behold, God assists me; and the Lord is the helper of my soul.

¹⁶ For they cannot sleep, unless they have done evil: their sleep is taken away, and they rest not.

³⁰ There is no wisdom, there is no courage, there is no counsel against the ungodly.

²⁶ And the king commanded Jerahmeel the king's son, and Shelemiah the son of Abdeel, to take Baruch and Jeremiah, but they were hidden.

³¹ What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?

¹¹ persecutions, afflictions, which happened to me at Antioch, in Iconium, at Lystra--what persecutions I endured. And out of them all the Lord delivered me.

¹⁷ But the Lord stood by me and strengthened me, so that through me the proclamation might be fulfilled, and all the Gentiles might hear, and I was delivered out of the mouth of the lion. ¹⁸ And the Lord shall deliver me from every evil work and preserve me for His heavenly kingdom. To Him be glory forever and ever. Amen!

²⁸ And command Joshua, and strengthen him, and encourage him; for he shall go before the face of this people, and he shall give them the inheritance of all the land which you have seen.

⁶ And David was greatly distressed, because the people spoke of stoning him, because the souls of all the people were grieved, each for his sons and his daughters. But David strengthened himself in the Lord his God.

¹⁸ And I told them of the hand of God which was good upon me, also about the words of the king which he spoke to me. And I said, Let us arise and build. And their hands were strengthened for the good work.

³ For seeing you have instructed many, and have strengthened the hands of the weak one, ⁴ and have supported the failing with words, and have imparted courage to feeble knees.

^{5 (16:6)} And would there were strength in my mouth, and I would not spare the movement of my lips.

⁹ The heart delights in ointments and wines and perfumes, but the soul is broken by calamities.

¹⁷ Iron sharpens iron, and a man sharpens his friend's countenance.

⁹ Two are better than one, seeing they have a good reward for their labor. ¹⁰ For if they fall, the one will lift up his companion. But woe to him that is alone when he falls, and there is not a second to lift him up. ¹¹ Also if two should lie together, they also get heat. But how shall one be warmed alone? ¹² And if one should prevail against him, the two shall withstand him; and a threefold cord shall not be quickly broken.

³ Be strong, you relaxed hands and feeble knees. ⁴ Comfort one another, you fainthearted; be strong, fear not; behold, our God renders judgment, and He will render it; He will come and save us.

²² Because you have perverted the heart of the righteous, whereas I perverted him not, and that in order to strengthen the hands of the wicked, that he should not at all turn from his evil way and live:

³² But I have prayed for you, that your faith should not fail; and when you have turned back, strengthen your brothers."

⁴³ Then an angel appeared to Him from heaven, strengthening Him.

¹⁰ Finally, my brothers, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might.

¹ You therefore, my child, be empowered by the grace which is in Christ Jesus.

¹² Therefore strengthen the hands which are weakened, and the feeble knees, ¹³ and make straight paths for your feet, so that the lame may not be turned aside, but rather be healed.

³¹ For as long as the son of Jesse lives upon the earth, your kingdom shall not be established: now then send and take the young man, for he shall surely die!

^{20 (24:21)} And now, behold, I know that you shall surely reign, and the kingdom of Israel shall be established in your hand.

¹¹ who exalts the lowly, and raises up them that are lost: ¹² frustrating the counsels of the crafty, and their hands shall not perform the truth: ¹³ who takes the wise in their wisdom, and subverts the counsel of the crafty. ¹⁴ In the day darkness shall come upon them, and let them grope in the noonday even as in the night. ¹⁵ And let them perish in war, and let the weak escape from the hand of the mighty.

¹ A Psalm of David, before he was anointed. The Lord is my light and my Savior; whom shall I fear? The Lord is the defender of my life; of whom shall I be afraid? ² When evildoers drew near against me to eat up my flesh, my persecutors and my enemies, they fainted and fell. ³ Though an army should set itself in array against me, my heart shall not be afraid; Though war should rise up against me, in this am I confident.

¹ For the end, for the sons of Korah; A Psalm concerning secret things. God is our refuge and strength, a help in the afflictions that have come heavily upon us. ² Therefore will we not fear when the earth is troubled, and the mountains are removed into the depths of the seas.

¹ Praise of a Song, by David. He that dwells in the help of the Highest, shall sojourn under the shelter of the God of heaven. ² He shall say to the Lord, You are my helper and my refuge; my God; I will trust in Him.

²⁶ In the fear of the Lord is strong confidence, and he leaves his children a support.

²¹ There are many thoughts in a man's heart, but the counsel of the Lord abides forever.

¹⁰ Fear not; for I am with you; wander not; for I am your God, who has strengthened you; and I have helped you, and have established you with My righteous right hand.

¹⁴ Fear not, Jacob, and you Israel few in number; I have helped you, says your God, He that redeems you, O Israel.

¹⁷ I will not allow any weapon formed against you to prosper; and every voice that shall rise up against you for judgment, you shall vanquish them all; and your adversaries shall be condemned thereby. There is an inheritance to them that serve the Lord, and you shall be righteous before Me, says the Lord.

³² Do not fear, little flock, because your Father is well pleased to give to you the kingdom.

³⁹ but if it is of God, you cannot overthrow it--lest you even be found to fight against God."

¹⁶ Now when we came to Rome, the centurion handed over the prisoners to the captain of the guard; but Paul was allowed to stay by himself with the soldier guarding him.

²⁴ whenever I travel to Spain, I shall come to you. For I hope while traveling through to see you, and to be sent forward there by you, if I may be filled in part from you first.

⁶ so that being confident, we may say: "The LORD is my helper; I will not fear. What can man do to me?"

¹² And Jonathan said to David, the Lord God of Israel knows that I will search out my father as I have an opportunity, three times, and behold, if good should be determined concerning David, and I do not send to you in the field, ¹³ may God do so to Jonathan and more, also! As I shall also report the evil to you, and make it known to you, and I will let you go; and you shall depart in peace, and the Lord shall be with you, as he was with my father. ¹⁴ And if indeed I continue to live, then shall you deal mercifully with me; and if I indeed die, ¹⁵ you shall not withdraw your mercy from my house forever, And if you do not, when the Lord cuts off the enemies of David, each from the face of the earth, ^{16 (20:15A)} should it happen that the name of Jonathan be discovered by the house of David, then let the Lord seek out the enemies of David. ¹⁷ And Jonathan swore yet again to David, because he loved the soul of him that loved him.

⁴² And Jonathan said to David, Go in peace, and as we have both sworn in the name of the Lord, saying, The Lord shall be witness between me and you, and between my seed and your seed forever — even so let it be. And David arose and departed, and Jonathan went into the city.

¹ And David said, Is there yet anyone left from the house of Saul, that I may deal kindly with him for Jonathan's sake?

⁷ But the king spared Memphibosheth son of Jonathan the son of Saul, because of the oath of the Lord that was between them, even between David and Jonathan the son of Saul.

⁷ And Saul said to his servants that stood by him, Hear now, you sons of Benjamin, will the son of Jesse indeed give all of you fields and vineyards, and will he make you all captains of hundreds and captains of thousands? ⁸ That you are conspiring against me, and there is no one that informs me, whereas my son has made a covenant with the son of Jesse, and there is none of you that is sorry for me, or informs me, that my son has stirred up my servant against me for an enemy, as it is this day?

¹ And the Ziphites came out of the dry country to Saul to the hill, saying, Behold, David hides himself with us in the hill Hachilah, opposite Jeshimon.

³ And Saul encamped in the hill of Hachilah in front of Jeshimon, by the way, and David dwelt in the wilderness. And David saw that Saul came after him into the wilderness.

¹ For the end, among Hymns of instruction by David, when the Ziphites came and said to Saul, Lo, is not David hiding with us? Save me, O God, by Your name, and judge me by Your might. ² O God, hear my prayer; hearken to the words of my mouth. ³ For strangers have risen up against me, and mighty men have sought my life; they have not set God before them. Pause. ⁴ Behold, God assists me; and the Lord is the helper of my soul. ⁵ He shall return evil to my enemies; utterly destroy them in Your truth. ⁶ I will willingly sacrifice to You; I will give thanks to Your name, O Lord; for it is good. ⁷ For You have delivered me out of all my afflictions, and my eye has seen its desire upon my enemies.

¹² When a king hearkens to unjust language, all his subjects are transgressors.

⁶ And if a Levite comes from one of the cities of all the children of Israel, where he himself dwells, accordingly as his mind desires, to the place which he shall have chosen,

²¹ Then Abner said to David, I will arise now and go, and gather to my lord the king all of Israel; and I will make a covenant with him, and you shall reign over all whom your soul desires. And David sent Abner away, and he departed in peace.

¹¹ And the men of his city, the elders, and the nobles who dwelt in his city, did as Jezabel sent to them, and as it had been written in the letters which she sent to them. ¹² And they proclaimed a fast, and set Naboth in a chief place among the people. ¹³ And two men, sons of transgressors, came in, and sat opposite him, and bore witness against him, saying, You have 6blasphemed God and the king. And they led him forth out of the city, and stoned him with stones, and he died. ¹⁴ And they sent to Jezebel, saying, Naboth has been stoned, and is dead.

⁵ So those that were over the house, and those that were over the city, and the elders and the guardians sent to Jehu, saying, We also are your servants, and whatsoever you shall say to us we will do; we will not make any man king; we will do that which is right in your eyes. ⁶ And Jehu wrote them a second letter, saying, If you are for me, and hearken to my voice, take the heads of the men your master's sons, and bring them to me at this time tomorrow in Jezreel. Now the sons of the king were seventy men; these great men of the city brought them up. ⁷ And it came to pass, when the letter came to them, that they took the king's sons and killed them, all seventy men, and put their heads in baskets, and sent them to him at Jezreel.

³ For strangers have risen up against me, and mighty men have sought my life; they have not set God before them. Pause.

¹⁰ The sinner shall see and be angry, he shall gnash his teeth, and consume away; the desire of the sinner shall perish.

²³ All the desire of the righteous is good, but the hope of the ungodly shall perish.

²⁶ Many wait on the favor of rulers, but justice comes to a man from the Lord.

² And he said to his mother, The eleven hundred pieces of silver which you took of yourself, and about which you cursed me, and spoke in my ears, saying, behold, the silver is with me; I took it. And his mother said, Blessed be my son of the Lord.

⁸ That you are conspiring against me, and there is no one that informs me, whereas my son has made a covenant with the son of Jesse, and there is none of you that is sorry for me, or informs me, that my son has stirred up my servant against me for an enemy, as it is this day?

³ Because the sinner praises himself for the desires of his heart; and the unjust one blesses himself.

⁵ Hear the words of the Lord, you that tremble at His word; speak, our brethren, to them that hate you and abominate you, that the name of the Lord may be glorified, and may appear their joy; but they shall be ashamed.

¹¹ Their heads have judged for gifts, and their priests have answered for hire, and her prophets have divined for silver: and yet they have rested on the Lord, saying, Is not the Lord among us? No evil shall come upon us.

¹³ who takes the wise in their wisdom, and subverts the counsel of the crafty.

³⁶ And in the resting he said, Turn again, O Lord, the thousands and tens of thousands in Israel.

¹¹ For thus I have surely given counsel, that all Israel be generally gathered to you from Dan even to Beersheba, as the sand that is upon the seashore for multitude; and that your presence go in the midst of them. ¹² And we will come upon him in one of the places where we shall find him, and we will encamp against him, as the dew falls upon the earth; and we will not leave of him and of his men so much as one. ¹³ And if he shall have taken refuge with his army in a city, then shall all Israel take ropes to that city, and we will draw it even into the river, that there may not be left there even a stone.

¹⁰ As the Lord your God lives, there is not a nation or kingdom where my lord has not sent to seek you; and if they said, He is not here, then has he set fire to the kingdom and its territories, because he has not found you.

² And you, Bethlehem, house of Ephratha, are few in number to be reckoned among the thousands of Judah; yet out of you shall one come forth to Me, to be a ruler of Israel; and His goings forth were from the beginning, even from eternity.

¹ Now after two days it was the Passover and the Feast of Unleavened Bread. And the chief priests and the scribes were seeking how they might get hold of Him by guile, and how they might kill Him.

¹⁰ Then Judas Iscariot, one of the twelve, went off to the chief priests to betray Him to them. ¹¹ And having heard, they rejoiced and promised to give him money. So he was seeking how at some good time he might deliver Him up.

² Now Judas, the one betraying Him, also knew the place, because Jesus often gathered there also with His disciples. ³ Then Judas, having taken the detachment of soldiers, and attendants from the chief priests and Pharisees, came there with lanterns, torches, and weapons.

⁸ And he struck them, leg on thigh, with a great overthrow; and went down and dwelt in a cave of the rock of Etam.

²⁸ So Saul returned from following after David, and went to meet the Philistines. Therefore that place was called The Divided Rock.

¹² So Michal let David down by the window, and he departed, and fled, and escaped.

³⁸ And Jonathan cried out after his boy, saying, Make haste, and do not delay. And Jonathan's boy gathered up the arrows, and brought the arrows to his master.

¹⁴ And David said to all his servants who were with him in Jerusalem, Rise, and let us flee, for we have no refuge from Absalom. Make haste and go, lest he overtake us speedily, and bring evil upon us, and smite the city with the edge of the sword.

²¹ And it came to pass after they were gone, that they came up out of the pit, and went on their way; and reported to King David, and said to David, Arise, and go quickly over the water, for thus has Ahithophel counseled concerning you. ²² And David rose up and all the people with him, and they passed over the Jordan till the morning light; there was not one missing who did not pass over the Jordan.

¹² O Lord our God, will You not judge them? For we have no strength to resist this great multitude that has come against us; and we know not what we shall do to them, but our eyes are toward You.

⁹ from the face of the ungodly that have afflicted me; my enemies have compassed about my soul.

¹¹ They have now cast me out and compassed me round about. They have set their eyes so as to bow them down to the ground.

¹² Many bulls have compassed Me; fat bulls have beset Me round about.

¹⁶ For many dogs have compassed Me; the assembly of the evildoers has enclosed Me; they pierced My hands and My feet.

²² But I said in my extreme fear, I am cast out from the sight of Your eyes; therefore You listened, O Lord, to the voice of my supplication when I cried to You.

¹¹ They completely compassed me about; but in the name of the Lord I repulsed them. ¹² They compassed me about as bees do a honeycomb, and they burst into flame as fire among thorns; but in the name of the Lord I repulsed them. ¹³ I was thrust, and sorely shaken, that I might fall; but the Lord helped me.

¹ For the end, A Psalm of David. Rescue me, O Lord, from the evil man; deliver me from the unjust man. ² Who have devised injustice in their hearts; all the day they prepared war. ³ They have sharpened their tongue as the tongue of a serpent; the poison of asps is under their lips. Pause. ⁴ Keep me, O Lord, from the hand of the sinner; rescue me from unjust men; who have purposed to overthrow my goings. ⁵ The proud have hid a snare for me, and have stretched out ropes for snares for my feet; they set a stumbling block for me near the path. Pause. ⁶ I said to the Lord, You are my God; hearken, O Lord, to the voice of my supplication. ⁷ O Lord God, the strength of my salvation; You have covered my head in the day of battle. ⁸ Deliver me not, O Lord, to the sinner, according to my desire; they have devised mischief against me; forsake me not, lest they should be exalted. Pause. ⁹ As for the head of them that surround me, the mischief of their lips shall cover them.

⁸ For we do not desire you to be ignorant, brothers, concerning our affliction which happened to us in Asia: that we were burdened beyond measure, beyond our strength, so that we despaired even of life.

⁹ They went up on the breadth of the earth and surrounded the camp of the saints and the beloved city. And fire came down from God out of heaven and devoured them.

¹⁴ And Abraham called the name of that place, The Lord Has Seen; that they might say today, In the mount the Lord was seen.

³⁶ For the Lord shall judge His people, and shall be comforted over His servants; for He saw that they were utterly weakened, and failed in the hostile invasion, and have become feeble.

⁹ And he heard concerning Tirhakah king of the Ethiopians, saying, Behold, he has come forth to fight with you. And he returned, and sent messengers to Hezekiah, saying,

¹³ And the Philistines once more assembled themselves in the giants' valley.

³ The pangs of death compassed me; the dangers of hell found me; I found affliction and sorrow.

¹⁶ But the earth helped the woman, and the earth opened its mouth and drank up the river which the dragon had cast out of his mouth.

⁷ And having turned back, they came to the Well of Judgment; this is Kadesh, and they cut to pieces all the princes of Amalek, and the Amorites dwelling in Hazezon Tamar.

^{1 (24:2)} And it came to pass when Saul returned from pursuing after the Philistines, that it was reported to him, saying, David is in the Wilderness of En Gedi.

² And they came and told Jehoshaphat, saying, A great multitude is coming against you from Syria, from beyond the sea; and behold, they are in Hazazon Tamar, which is En Gedi.

¹⁴ My kinsman is to me a cluster of camphor in the vineyards of En Gedi.

¹⁰ And fishermen shall stand there from En Gedi to En Eglaim; it shall be a place to spread out nets upon; it shall be distinct; and its fish shall be as the fish of the great sea, a very great multitude.
