Now Saul dwelt in the hill below the field that is in Ramah, and his spear was in his hand, and all his servants stood near him. ⁷ And Saul said to his servants that stood by him, Hear now, you sons of Benjamin, will the son of Jesse indeed give all of you fields and vineyards, and will he make you all captains of hundreds and captains of thousands? ⁸ That you are conspiring against me, and there is no one that informs me, whereas my son has made a covenant with the son of Jesse, and there is none of you that is sorry for me, or informs me, that my son has stirred up my servant against me for an enemy, as it is this day? ⁹ And Doeg the Syrian who was over the mules of Saul answered and said, I saw the son of Jesse as he came to Nob, to Abimelech son of Ahitub the priest. ¹⁰ And the priest inquired of God for him, and gave him provision, and gave him the sword of Goliath the Philistine. ¹¹ And the king sent to call Abimelech son of Ahitub and all his father's sons, the priests that were in Nob; and they all came to the king. ¹² And Saul said, Hear now, you son of Ahitub. And he said, Behold, I am here, speak, my lord. ¹³ And Saul said to him, Why have you and the son of Jesse conspired against me, that you should give him bread and a sword, and should inquire of God for him, to raise him up against me as an enemy, as he is this day? ¹⁴ And he answered the king, and said, And who is there among all your servants as faithful as David, and he is a son-in-law of the king, and he is executor of all your commands, and is honorable in your house? ¹⁵ Have I begun today to inquire of God for him? By no means: let not the king bring a charge against his servant, and against any of my father's house, for your servant knew not in all these matters anything great or small. ¹⁶ And King Saul said, You shall surely die, Abimelech; you and all your father's house. ¹⁷ And the king said to the footmen that attended on him, Come here and kill the priests of the Lord, because their hand is with David, and because they knew that he fled, and they did not inform me. But the servants of the king would not lift their hands to fall upon the priest of the Lord. ¹⁸ And the king said to Doeg, Turn, and fall upon the priests: and Doeg the Syrian turned, and killed the priests of the Lord in that day, three hundred and five men, all wearing an ephod. ¹⁹ And he struck Nob, the city of the priest, with the edge of the sword, both man and woman, infant and suckling, calf and ox, and also sheep. ²⁰ And one son of Abimelech son of Ahitub escaped, and his name was Abiathar, and he fled after David. ²¹ And Abiathar told David that Saul had slain all the priests of the Lord. ²² And David said to Abiathar, I knew it in that day, that Doeg the Syrian would surely tell Saul: I am guilty of the death of the house of your father. ²³ Dwell with me; fear not, for wherever I shall seek a place of safety for my life, I will also seek a place for your life, for you are safely guarded while you are with me.

¹⁰ And he gave it to him. And David arose, and fled in that day from the presence of Saul. And David came to Achish king of Gath. ¹¹ And the servants of Achish said to him, Is not this David the king of the land? Did not the dancing women begin the song to him, saying, Saul has killed his thousands, and David his ten thousands? ¹² And David laid up the words in his heart, and was greatly afraid of Achish king of Gath. ¹³ And he changed his appearance before him, and feigned himself a false character in that day; and drummed upon the doors of the city, and used extravagant gestures with his hands, and fell against the doors of the gate, and his spittle ran down upon his beard. ¹⁴ And Achish said to his servants, Lo! You see the man is mad; why have you brought him in to me? ¹⁵ Am I in need of madmen, that you have brought him in to me to play the madman? He shall not come into the house

¹³ And three out of the thirty went down, and came to Cason to David, to the cave of Adullam; and there was an army of the Philistines, and they encamped in the valley of Rephaim. ¹⁴ And David was then in the stronghold, and the garrison of the Philistines was then in Bethlehem.

¹⁵ And three of the thirty chiefs went down to the rock to David, to the cave of Adullam, and the camp of the Philistines was in the giants' valley.

¹ A Psalm of David, when he changed his countenance before Abimelech; and he let him go, and he departed. I will bless the Lord at all times; His praise shall be continually in my mouth.

¹ For the end. Destroy not; by David, for a memorial, when he fled from the presence of Saul, to the cave. Have mercy on me, O God, have mercy on me; for my soul has trusted in You; and in the shadow of Your wings will I hope, until the iniquity has passed away. ² I will cry to God Most High; the God who has benefited me. Pause. ³ He sent from heaven and saved me; He reproached them that trampled on me; God has sent forth His mercy and His truth; ⁴ and He has delivered my soul from the midst of the lion's whelps; I lay down to sleep, though troubled. As for the sons of men, their teeth are spears and arrows, and their tongue a sharp sword. ⁵ Be exalted, O God, above the heavens; and Your glory above all the earth. ⁶ They have prepared snares for my feet, and have bowed down my soul; they have dug a pit before my face, and fallen into it themselves. Pause. ⁷ My heart, O God, is ready, my heart is ready; I will sing; yes, I will sing psalms. ⁸ Awake, my glory; awake, psaltery and harp; I will awake early. ⁹ O Lord, I will give thanks to You among the nations; I will sing to You among the Gentiles. ¹⁰ For Your mercy has been magnified, even to the heavens, and Your truth to the clouds. ¹¹ Be exalted, O God, above the heavens; and Your glory above all the earth.

¹ A Psalm of instruction for David, when he was in the cave — A Prayer. I cried to the Lord with my voice; with my voice I made supplication to the Lord. ² I will pour out my supplication before Him. I will declare before Him my affliction. ³ When my spirit was fainting within me, then You knew my paths; in the very way in which I was walking, they hid a snare for me. ⁴ I looked on my right hand, and behold, for there was none that noticed me; refuge failed me; and there was none that cared for my soul. ⁵ I cried unto You, O Lord, and said, You are my hope, my portion in the land of the living. ⁶ Attend to my supplication, for I am brought very low; deliver me from them that persecute me; for they are stronger than I. ⁷ Bring my soul out of prison, that I may give thanks to Your name, O Lord; the righteous shall wait for me, until You recompense me.

³ For behold, the Lord comes forth out of His place, and will come down, and will go upon the high places of the earth.

¹⁵ until they bring the heirs, O inhabitant of Lachish: the inheritance shall reach to Adullam, even the glory of the daughter of Israel.

³⁸ of whom the world was not worthy, wandering in deserts and mountains and caves, and the holes of the earth.

³ And Jephthah fled from the face of his brothers, and dwelt in the land of Tob; and vain men gathered to Jephthah, and went out with him.

²⁵ And the children of Dan said to him, Let not your voice be heard with us, lest angry men run upon you, and take away your life, and the lives of your house.

¹⁰ And she was very much grieved in her spirit, and prayed to the Lord, and wept abundantly.

¹⁶ At this time tomorrow I will send to you a man out of the land of Benjamin, and you shall anoint him to be ruler over My people Israel, and he shall save My people out of the hand of the Philistines, for I have looked upon the humiliation of My people, for their cry has come unto Me.

¹³ And David arose, and the men with him, in number about four hundred, and they went forth from Keilah, and went wherever they could go. And it was told Saul that David had escaped from Keilah, so he halted the expedition.

¹³ And David said to his men, Gird on every man his sword. And they went up after David, about four hundred men. And two hundred stayed with the supplies.

¹⁵ And the men were very good to us; they did not hinder us, neither did they demand from us anything all the days that we were with them. ¹⁶ And when we were in the field, they were as a wall round about us, both by night and by day, all the days that we were with them feeding the flock.

⁶ And David was greatly distressed, because the people spoke of stoning him, because the souls of all the people were grieved, each for his sons and his daughters. But David strengthened himself in the Lord his God.

²² Then every ill-disposed and bad man of the soldiers who had gone with David, answered and said, Because they did not pursue together with us, we will not give them of the spoils which we have recovered, only let each one lead away with him his wife and his children, and let them return. ²³ And David said, You shall not do so, after the Lord has delivered the enemy to us, and guarded us, and the Lord has delivered into our hands the troop that came against you. ²⁴ And who will hearken to these your words? For they are not inferior to us; for according to the portion of him that went down to the battle, so shall be the portion of him that abides with the baggage; they shall share alike.

² And before, when Saul was king over us, you were the one who led Israel out and brought them in; and the Lord said to you, You shall feed My people Israel, and you shall be for a leader to My people Israel.

⁸ And Hushai said, You know your father and his men, that they are very mighty, and bitter in their spirit, as a bereaved bear in the field, and as a wild boar in the plain; and your father is a man of war, and will not give the people rest.

⁵ Turn back, and you shall say to Hezekiah the ruler of My people, Thus says the Lord God of your father David: I have heard your prayer, I have seen your tears; behold, I will heal you; on the third day you shall go up to the house of the Lord.

¹⁵ And three of the thirty chiefs went down to the rock to David, to the cave of Adullam, and the camp of the Philistines was in the giants' valley. ¹⁶ And David was then in the stronghold, and the garrison of the Philistines was then in Bethlehem. ¹⁷ And David longed, and said, Who will give me water to drink from the well of Bethlehem, that is in the gate? ¹⁸ And the three broke through the camp of the Philistines, and they drew water out of the well that was in Bethlehem, which was in the gate, and they took it, and came to David. But David would not drink it, and poured it out to the Lord, and said, ¹⁹ God forbid that I should do this thing — shall I drink the blood of these men with their lives? For with the peril of their lives they brought it. So he would not drink it. These things were done by the three mighty men.

¹² For He has delivered the poor from the oppressor; and the needy who had no helper. ¹³ He shall spare the poor and needy, and shall deliver the souls of the needy. ¹⁴ He shall redeem their souls from oppression and injustice, and their name shall be precious before Him.

⁶ Give strong drink to those that are in sorrow, and the wine to drink to those in pain,

¹² When Jesus heard that, He said to them, "Those who are healthy have no need of a physician, but those who are ill. ¹³ But go and learn what this means: 'I desire mercy and not sacrifice.' For I did not come to call the righteous, but sinners, to repentance."

¹² And from the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven suffers violence, and violent men seize it.

²⁸ Come to Me, all you who labor and are burdened, and I will give you rest.

²⁵ But since he had nothing with which to repay, his master commanded that he be sold, with his wife and children and everything that he had, and to be repaid. ²⁶ Therefore falling down before him, the servant said, 'Master, have patience with me, and I will repay everything to you.' ²⁷ "And having compassion, the master of that servant released him, and forgave him the loan. ²⁸ But when that servant went out, he found one of his fellow servants who owed him a hundred denarii. And taking hold of him, he was choking him, saying, 'Pay me what you owe!' ²⁹ "So his fellow servant fell down at his feet and kept begging him, saying, 'Have patience with me, and I will pay you back.' ³⁰ "But he was not willing, but going off, he cast him into prison till he should pay back what was owed. ³¹ So when his fellow servants saw what had been done, they were very grieved, and they came and narrated to their master all that had taken place. ³² Then summoning him, his master said to him, 'You wicked servant! I forgave you all that debt because you begged me. ³³ Should you not also have had compassion on your fellow servant, as I also had compassion on you?' ³⁴ "And being angered, his master handed him over to the tormentors until he should pay all that was owed to him.

¹⁰ For it was fitting for Him, on account of whom are all things and through whom are all things, in bringing many sons to glory, to perfect the Author of their salvation through sufferings.

¹¹ And Joseph settled his father and his brothers, and gave them a possession in the land of Egypt, in the best land, in the land of Rameses, as Pharaoh commanded.

¹² Honor your father and your mother, that it may be well with you, and that you may live long on the good land, which the Lord your God gives to you.

²⁹ And the Spirit of the Lord came upon Jephthah, and he passed over Gilead, and Manasseh, and passed by the watchtower of Gilead to the other side of the children of Ammon.

¹ And it came to pass in the days when the judges ruled, that there was a famine in the land. And a man went from Bethlehem, Judah to sojourn in the land of Moab — he, his wife, and his two sons. ² And the man's name was Elimelech, and his wife's name was Naomi, and the names of his two sons were Mahlon and Chilion — Ephrathites of Bethlehem, Judah. And they came to the land of Moab, and remained there. ³ And Elimelech, Naomi's husband died; and she was left, and her two sons. ⁴ And they took to themselves wives, women of Moab; the name of the one was Orpah, and the name of the second was Ruth; and they dwelt there about ten years.

¹⁰ Moreover I have bought for myself for a wife Ruth the Moabitess, the wife of Mahlon, to raise up the name of the dead upon his inheritance; so the name of the dead shall not be destroyed from among his brothers, and from the tribe of his people: you are witnesses this day.

¹⁷ And the neighbors gave him a name, saying, A son has been born to Naomi; and they called his name Obed; this is the father of Jesse, the father of David.

¹⁸ And Samuel reported all the words, and did not hide them from him. And Eli said, He is the Lord, He shall do that which is good in His sight.

⁴⁷ So Saul received the kingdom. By lot he inherited the office of ruling over Israel. And he fought against all his enemies round about, against Moab, against the children of Ammon, against the children of Edom, against Beth Hor, against the king of Zobah, and against the Philistines. Wherever he turned, he was victorious.

²⁵ And the king said to Zadok, Carry back the ark of God into the city: if I should find favor in the eyes of the Lord, then will He bring me back, and He will show me both it and its beauty. ²⁶ But if He should say thus, I have no pleasure in you; behold, here I am, let Him do to me according to that which is good in His sight.

⁴ For God commanded, saying, 'Honor your father and your mother'; and, 'He who curses father or mother, with death let him die.' ⁵ But you say, 'Whoever says to his father or mother, "It is a gift to God, whatever profit you might have received from me"-- ⁶ then by no means should he honor his father or mother.' Thus you have nullified the commandment of God on account of your tradition.

²³ Therefore I hope to send him at once, as soon as I may see how my circumstances go. ²⁴ But I have been persuaded in the Lord that I myself will also come shortly.

⁴ But if a certain widow has children or grandchildren, let them first learn to show piety to their own household and to make repayment to their parents; for this is acceptable before God.

¹ And it was told David, saying, behold, the Philistines war in Keilah, and they rob, and they trample on the threshing floors. ² And David inquired of the Lord, saying, Shall I go and strike these Philistines? And the Lord said, Go, and you shall strike these Philistines, and shall save Keilah. ³ And the men of David said to him, Behold, we are afraid here in Judea; and how shall it be if we go to Keilah? Shall we go after the spoils of the Philistines? ⁴ And David inquired yet again of the Lord; and the Lord answered him, and said to him, Arise and go down to Keilah, for I will deliver the Philistines into your hands. ⁵ So David and his men with him went to Keilah, and fought with the Philistines; and they fled from before him, and he carried off their cattle, and struck them with a great slaughter, and David rescued the inhabitants of Keilah. ⁶ And it came to pass when Abiathar the son of Abimelech fled to David, that he went down with David to Keilah, having and ephod in his hand.

¹¹ And David rose early in the morning, and the word of the Lord came to the prophet Gad, the seer, saying, Go, and speak to David, saying,

¹⁶ And there came some of the sons of Benjamin and Judah to the assistance of David.

⁹ And the Lord spoke to Gad the seer, saying,

²⁹ And the rest of the acts of David, the former and the latter, are written in the history of Samuel the seer, and in the history of Nathan the prophet, and in the history of Gad the seer,

²⁵ And he stationed the Levites in the house of the Lord with cymbals, and lutes, and harps, according to the commandment of King David, and of Gad the king's seer, and Nathan the prophet; for by the commandment of the Lord the order was in the hand of the prophets.

¹¹ And I said, Who is the man that shall enter into the house, that he may live?

¹ For the end, A Psalm of David. In the Lord I have put my trust: how will you say to my soul, Flee to the mountains as a sparrow?

¹² Let them not say, It is hard, for whatsoever this people says, is hard; but do not fear their fear, neither be dismayed. ¹³ Sanctify the Lord Himself; and He shall be your fear. ¹⁴ And if you shall trust in Him, He shall be to you for a sanctuary; and you shall not come against Him as against a stumbling stone, neither as against the falling of a rock; but the houses of Jacob are in a snare, and those who dwell in Jerusalem are in a pit.

²³ But whenever they persecute you in this city, flee to another. For assuredly I say to you, by no means will you have gone through the cities of Israel before the Son of Man comes.

³³ And Abraham planted a field at the Well of the Oath, and called there on the name of the Lord, the Everlasting God.

⁵ And she sat under the palm tree of Deborah between Ramah and Bethel in Mount Ephraim; and the children of Israel went up to her for judgment.

⁹ And an evil spirit from God was upon Saul, and he was resting in his house, and a spear was in his hand, and David was playing on the harp with his hands.

³³ And Saul lifted up his spear against Jonathan to kill him, so Jonathan knew that this evil was determined on by his father to kill David.

¹¹ And he said, This shall be the manner of the king that shall rule over you: he shall take your sons, and put them in his chariots, and among his horsemen, and running before his chariots, ¹² and his manner shall be to make them to himself captains of hundreds and captains of thousands; and to reap his harvest, and gather his vintage, and prepare his instruments of war, and the implements of his chariots.

¹⁴ And he will take your fields, your vineyards, and your good olive groves, and give them to his servants. ¹⁵ And he will take the tithe of your seeds and your vineyards, and give it to his eunuchs, and to his servants.

¹⁴ And David was prudent in all his ways, and the Lord was with him.

²⁷ And it came to pass on the next day, on the second day of the month, that David's place was empty; and Saul said to Jonathan his son, Why has not the son of Jesse attended both yesterday and today at the table?

³⁰ And Saul was exceedingly angry with Jonathan, and said to him, You son of a traitorous woman! For do I not know that you are an accomplice with the son of Jesse to yourself, and to the shame of your mother's nakedness?

⁹ And Doeg the Syrian who was over the mules of Saul answered and said, I saw the son of Jesse as he came to Nob, to Abimelech son of Ahitub the priest.

¹³ And Saul said to him, Why have you and the son of Jesse conspired against me, that you should give him bread and a sword, and should inquire of God for him, to raise him up against me as an enemy, as he is this day?

¹⁰ And Nabal sprang up, and answered the servants of David, and said, Who is David? And who is the son of Jesse? Nowadays there are an abundance of servants who depart, everyone from his master.

¹ And there was a transgressor there, and his name was Sheba, a Benjamite, the son of Bichri: and he blew the trumpet, and said, We have no portion in David, neither have we any inheritance in the son of Jesse: to your tents, O Israel!

¹⁶ And all Israel saw that the king did not hearken to them. And the people answered the king, saying, What portion have we in David? Neither have we any inheritance in the son of Jesse. Depart, O Israel, to your tents; now feed your own house, David.

¹ And there shall come forth a Rod out of the root of Jesse, and a blossom shall come up from his root;

¹⁰ And in that day there shall be a Root of Jesse, and He that shall arise to rule over the Gentiles; in Him shall the Gentiles trust, and His rest shall be glorious.

² And Jonathan said to him, Far be it from you! You shall not die! Behold, my father will not do anything great or small without first telling it to me. And why should my father hide this matter from me? This thing is not so.

⁸ And you shall deal mercifully with your servant; for you have brought your servant into a covenant of the Lord with yourself. And if there is iniquity in your servant, then kill me yourself, for why should you bring me to your father?

¹³ may God do so to Jonathan and more, also! As I shall also report the evil to you, and make it known to you, and I will let you go; and you shall depart in peace, and the Lord shall be with you, as he was with my father. ¹⁴ And if indeed I continue to live, then shall you deal mercifully with me; and if I indeed die, ¹⁵ you shall not withdraw your mercy from my house forever, And if you do not, when the Lord cuts off the enemies of David, each from the face of the earth, ^{16 (20:15A)} should it happen that the name of Jonathan be discovered by the house of David, then let the Lord seek out the enemies of David. ¹⁷ And Jonathan swore yet again to David, because he loved the soul of him that loved him.

³⁰ And Saul was exceedingly angry with Jonathan, and said to him, You son of a traitorous woman! For do I not know that you are an accomplice with the son of Jesse to yourself, and to the shame of your mother's nakedness? ³¹ For as long as the son of Jesse lives upon the earth, your kingdom shall not be established: now then send and take the young man, for he shall surely die! ³² And Jonathan answered Saul, Why is he to die? What has he done? ³³ And Saul lifted up his spear against Jonathan to kill him, so Jonathan knew that this evil was determined on by his father to kill David. ³⁴ And Jonathan sprang up from the table in great anger, and did not eat bread on the second day of the month, for he grieved bitterly for David, because his father determined to do evil against him.

⁴² And Jonathan said to David, Go in peace, and as we have both sworn in the name of the Lord, saying, The Lord shall be witness between me and you, and between my seed and your seed forever — even so let it be. And David arose and departed, and Jonathan went into the city.

¹⁶ And Jonathan son of Saul arose, and went to David to Caene, and strengthened his hands in the Lord. ¹⁷ And he said to him, Fear not, for the hand of Saul my father shall not find you; and you shall be king over Israel, and I shall be second to you; and Saul my father knows it. ¹⁸ So they both made a covenant before the Lord; and David dwelt in Caene, and Jonathan went to his home.

²¹ And Saul said to them, Blessed are you of the Lord, for you have been grieved on my account.

¹⁶ then He opens the understanding of men: He scares them with such fearful visions;

³ And Ahijah son of Ahitub, Ichabod's brother, the son of Phinehas, the son of Eli, God's priest in Shiloh, was wearing an ephod. And the people knew not that Jonathan was gone.

¹ And David came to Nob, to Abimelech the priest. And Abimelech was amazed at meeting him, and said to him, Why are you alone, and no one is with you? ² And David said to the priest, The king gave me a command today, and said to me, Let no one know the matter on which I send you, and concerning which I have charged you: and I have charged my servants to be in the place that is called, The Faithfulness of God, Phellani Maemoni. ³ And now if there are under your hand five loaves, give into my hand what is ready. ⁴ And the priest answered David, and said, There are no common loaves under my hand, for I have none but holy loaves: if the young men have been kept at least from women, then they shall eat them. ⁵ And David answered the priest, and said to him, Yes, we have been kept from women for three days: when I came forth for the journey all the young men were purified; but this expedition is unclean, wherefore it shall be sanctified this day because of my weapons. ⁶ So Abimelech the priest gave him the showbread; for there were no loaves there, but only the presence loaves which had been removed from the presence of the Lord, in order that hot bread should be set on, on the day on which he took them. ⁷ And one of Saul's servants was there on that day, detained before the Lord, and his name was Doeg the Syrian, tending the mules of Saul. ⁸ And David said to Abimelech, See if there is here under your hand spear or sword, for I have not brought in my hand my sword or my weapons, for the word of the king was urgent. ⁹ And the priest said, Behold the sword of Goliath the Philistine, whom you killed in the valley of Elah; and it is wrapped in a cloth. If you will take it, take it for yourself, for there is no other weapon except that here. And David said, Behold, there is none like it; give it to me.

¹ For the end, A Psalm of instruction by David, when Doeg the Edomite came and told Saul, and said to him, David has gone to the house of Abimelech. Why do you, O mighty man, boast of iniquity in your mischief? All the day ² your tongue has devised unrighteousness; like a sharpened razor you have worked deceit. ³ You have loved wickedness more than goodness; unrighteousness better than to speak righteousness. Pause. ⁴ You have loved all words of destruction, and a deceitful tongue. ⁵ Therefore may God destroy you forever, may He pluck you up and utterly remove you from your dwelling, and your root from the land of the living. Pause. ⁶ And the righteous shall see and fear, and shall laugh at him, and say, ⁷ Behold, the man who made not God his help; but trusted in the abundance of his wealth, and strengthened himself in his vanity. ⁸ But I am as a fruitful olive in the house of God; I have trusted in the mercy of God forever, even forevermore. ⁹ I will give thanks to You forever, for You have done it; and I will wait on Your name; for it is good before the saints.

⁵ A false witness shall not be unpunished, and he that accuses unjustly shall not escape.

¹² When a king hearkens to unjust language, all his subjects are transgressors.

⁹ There are robbers in you, to shed blood in you; and in you they have eaten upon the mountains; they have wrought ungodliness in the midst of you.

⁵⁹ Now the chief priests, the elders, and all the Sanhedrin were seeking false witnesses against Jesus, so that they might put Him to death, ⁶⁰ and they did not find any. And though many false witnesses came forward, they did not find any. But at last two false witnesses came forward ⁶¹ and said, "This Man said, 'I am able to destroy the temple of God, and after three days to rebuild it.' "

²¹ And he shall stand before Eleazar the priest, and they shall ask of him before the Lord the judgment of the Urim. They shall go forth at his word, and at his word they shall come in, he and the children of Israel with one accord, and all the congregation.

²² And Samuel asked yet again of the Lord, Will the man come here? And the Lord said, Behold, he is hid among the stuff.

⁶ So Abimelech the priest gave him the showbread; for there were no loaves there, but only the presence loaves which had been removed from the presence of the Lord, in order that hot bread should be set on, on the day on which he took them. ⁷ And one of Saul's servants was there on that day, detained before the Lord, and his name was Doeg the Syrian, tending the mules of Saul. ⁸ And David said to Abimelech, See if there is here under your hand spear or sword, for I have not brought in my hand my sword or my weapons, for the word of the king was urgent. ⁹ And the priest said, Behold the sword of Goliath the Philistine, whom you killed in the valley of Elah; and it is wrapped in a cloth. If you will take it, take it for yourself, for there is no other weapon except that here. And David said, Behold, there is none like it; give it to me.

¹⁵ Have I begun today to inquire of God for him? By no means: let not the king bring a charge against his servant, and against any of my father's house, for your servant knew not in all these matters anything great or small.

² And David inquired of the Lord, saying, Shall I go and strike these Philistines? And the Lord said, Go, and you shall strike these Philistines, and shall save Keilah.

⁴ And David inquired yet again of the Lord; and the Lord answered him, and said to him, Arise and go down to Keilah, for I will deliver the Philistines into your hands.

⁷ And Saul said to his servants that stood by him, Hear now, you sons of Benjamin, will the son of Jesse indeed give all of you fields and vineyards, and will he make you all captains of hundreds and captains of thousands?

⁶ And Mephibosheth the son of Jonathan the son of Saul came to the King David, and he fell upon his face and bowed down before him. And David said to him, Mephibosheth; and he said, Behold your servant.

¹ I became manifest to them that asked not for Me; I was found by them that sought Me not; I said, Behold, I am here, to a nation who called not on My name.

⁸ That you are conspiring against me, and there is no one that informs me, whereas my son has made a covenant with the son of Jesse, and there is none of you that is sorry for me, or informs me, that my son has stirred up my servant against me for an enemy, as it is this day?

⁶⁹ The injustice of the proud has been multiplied against me; but I will search out Your commandments with all my heart.

¹⁰ Then Amaziah the priest of Bethel sent to Jeroboam king of Israel, saying, Amos is forming conspiracies against you in the midst of the house of Israel: the land will be utterly unable to bear all his words.

² And they began to accuse Him, saying, "We found this Man perverting the nation, and forbidding to pay taxes to Caesar, saying that He Himself is Christ, a King." ³ Then Pilate questioned Him, saying, "Are You the King of the Jews?" He answered him and said, "You are saying what is so." ⁴ But Pilate said to the chief priests and the crowds, "I find no guilt in this Man." ⁵ But they insisted, saying, "He stirs up the people, teaching throughout all Judea, beginning from Galilee to here."

¹³ And he removed David from before him, and made him a captain of a thousand for himself; and he went out and came in before the people.

²⁷ And David arose, and went, he and his men, and killed among the Philistines one hundred men. And he brought their foreskins, and he became the king's son-in-law, and Saul gave him Michal his daughter as a wife.

⁴ And Jonathan spoke favorably concerning David to Saul his father, and said to him, Let not the king sin against your servant David, for he has not sinned against you, and his deeds are very good. ⁵ And he put his life in his hand, and killed the Philistine, and the Lord brought about a great deliverance. And all Israel saw, and rejoiced. Why then do you sin against innocent blood, to kill David without a cause?

³² And Jonathan answered Saul, Why is he to die? What has he done?

² And David said to the priest, The king gave me a command today, and said to me, Let no one know the matter on which I send you, and concerning which I have charged you: and I have charged my servants to be in the place that is called, The Faithfulness of God, Phellani Maemoni.

²³ For all His judgments and His ordinances were before me: I departed not from them. ²⁴ And I shall be blameless before Him, and will keep myself from my iniquity. ²⁵ And the Lord will recompense me according to my righteousness, and according to the purity of my hands in His sight.

¹¹ Deliver them that are led away to death, and redeem them that are appointed to be slain; spare not your help. ¹² But if you should say, I know not this man; know that the Lord knows the hearts of all; and He that formed breath for all, He knows all things, who renders to every man according to his works.

⁸ Open your mouth with the word of God, and judge all fairly. ⁹ Open your mouth and judge justly, and plead the cause of the poor and weak.

⁵ Did he not say to me, She is my sister, and she, even she herself said, He is my brother? With a pure heart and in the righteousness of my hands have I done this. ⁶ And God said to him in his sleep, Yes, I knew that you did this with a pure heart, and I spared you, so that you should not sin against Me, therefore I did not let you touch her.

As the Lord lives, there shall not fall to the ground one of the hairs of his head; for the people of God have done good this day. And the people prayed for Jonathan in that day, and he died not.

¹⁷ And now consider what you will do; for mischief is determined against our lord and against his house; and he is a vile character, and one cannot speak to him.

¹⁹ But Peter and John answered them and said, "Whether it is right before God to hear you rather than God, you judge.

⁴⁰ And for the sons of Aaron you shall make tunics and sashes, and you shall make headpieces for them for honor and glory.

¹⁸ And Samuel ministered before the Lord, a child wearing a linen ephod.

²⁸ And I chose the house of your father out of all the tribes of Israel to minister to Me in the priest's office, to go up to My altar, and to burn incense, and to wear an ephod. And I gave to the house of your father all the offerings by fire of the children of Israel for food.

³⁰ Therefore thus says the Lord God of Israel: I said, Your house and the house of your father shall pass before Me forever: but now the Lord says, Far be it from Me; for I will only honor them that honor Me, and he that despises Me shall be despised. ³¹ Behold, the days come when I will destroy your seed, and the seed of your father's house. ³² And you shall not have an old man in My house forever. ³³ And if I do not destroy a man of yours from My altar, it shall be that his eyes may fail and his soul may perish; and everyone that remains in your house shall fall by the sword of men.

³⁶ And it shall come to pass that he that survives in your house will come and bow down before him for a little piece of silver, saying, Put me into one of your priest's offices to eat bread.

¹² In that day I will raise up against Eli all things that I have said against his house; I will begin, and I will make an end. ¹³ And I have told him that I will be avenged on his house perpetually for the iniquities of his sons, because his sons spoke evil against God, and he did not admonish them. ¹⁴ And it shall not go on so; I have sworn to the house of Eli, the iniquity of the house of Eli shall not be atoned for with incense or sacrifices forever.

²¹ And they conspired against him, and stoned him by command of King Joash in the court of the Lord's house.

¹¹ Ephraim altogether prevailed against his adversary, he trod judgment under foot, for he began to go after vanities.

³ They gladdened kings with their wickedness, and princes with their lies.

¹⁶ For you have kept the statues of Omri, and done all the works of the house of Ahab; and you have walked in their ways, that I might deliver you to utter destruction, and those that inhabit the city to hissing: and you shall bear the reproach of nations.

³ Her princes within her were as roaring lions, her judges as the wolves of Arabia; they remained not till the morning.

¹⁰ which also I did in Jerusalem, and many of the saints I shut up in prisons, having received authority from the chief priests; and when they were being put to death, I cast my vote against them. ¹¹ And I punished them often in all the synagogues, and compelled them to blaspheme; and being exceedingly enraged against them, I persecuted them even as far as to foreign cities.

¹⁷ And the city shall be devoted, it and all things that are in it, to the Lord of hosts: only save Rahab the harlot, and everything in her house.

²¹ And Joshua devoted it to destruction, and all things that were in the city, man and woman, young man and old, and calf and donkey, with the edge of the sword.

³ And now go, and you shall strike Amalek and Hierim and all that belongs to him, and you shall not save anything of his alive, but you shall utterly destroy him. And you shall devote him and all his to destruction, and you shall spare nothing belonging to him; and you shall slay both man and woman, infant and suckling, calf and sheep, camel and donkey.

⁹ And Saul and all the people saved Agag alive, and the best of the flocks, and of the herds, and of the fruits, of the vineyards, and of all the good things; and they would not destroy them. But every worthless and despised thing they destroyed.

¹ And David came to Nob, to Abimelech the priest. And Abimelech was amazed at meeting him, and said to him, Why are you alone, and no one is with you?

¹¹ And the king sent to call Abimelech son of Ahitub and all his father's sons, the priests that were in Nob; and they all came to the king.

³² Exhort them today to remain in the way; exhort, beckoning the mountain with your hand, the daughter of Zion, even you hills that are in Jerusalem.

¹⁴ Therefore shall destruction rise up among your people, and all your strong places shall be ruined. As a prince Solomon departed out of the house of Jeroboam, in the days of battle they dashed the mother to the ground upon the children,

¹³ For judgment is without mercy to the one who does not show mercy. Mercy triumphs over judgment.

³³ And if I do not destroy a man of yours from My altar, it shall be that his eyes may fail and his soul may perish; and everyone that remains in your house shall fall by the sword of men.

¹² And there ran a man of Benjamin out of the battle, and he came to Shiloh on that day. And his clothes were torn, and dust was upon his head.

⁶ And it came to pass when Abiathar the son of Abimelech fled to David, that he went down with David to Keilah, having and ephod in his hand.

⁹ And David knew that Saul spoke openly of mischief against him. So David said to Abiathar the priest, Bring the ephod of the Lord.

⁷ And David said to Abiathar the priest the son of Ahimelech, Bring the ephod here to me.

²⁶ And the king said to Abiathar the priest, Depart quickly to Anathoth, to your farm, for you are worthy of death this day; but I will not slay you, because you have borne the ark of the covenant of the Lord before my father, and because you were afflicted in all things in which my father was afflicted. ²⁷ And Solomon removed Abiathar from being a priest of the Lord, that the word of the Lord might be fulfilled, which he spoke concerning the house of Eli in Shiloh.

²² For Your sake we are killed all the day long; we are counted as sheep for slaughter.

²⁶ And the king said to Abiathar the priest, Depart quickly to Anathoth, to your farm, for you are worthy of death this day; but I will not slay you, because you have borne the ark of the covenant of the Lord before my father, and because you were afflicted in all things in which my father was afflicted.

⁹ Then they will hand you over to tribulation and they will kill you, and you will be hated by all nations, on account of My name.

²⁸ And I give to them eternal life, and they shall never perish; and no one will snatch them out of My hand. ²⁹ My Father, who has given them to Me, is greater than all; and no one is able to snatch them out of My Father's hand. ³⁰ I and the Father are one."

²⁰ Remember the word which I said to you, 'A servant is not greater than his master.' If they persecuted Me, they will also persecute you. If they kept My word, they will keep yours also.

² They will excommunicate you; but a time is coming when everyone who kills you will think that he is offering God a service. ³ And these things they will do to you because they did not know the Father nor Me.

¹² When I was with them in the world, I kept them in Your name. Those whom You have given Me I guarded; and not one of them is lost except the son of perdition, so that the Scripture might be fulfilled.

⁹ so that the word might be fulfilled which He said, "Those whom You have given Me I have lost none."

¹ So therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every impediment, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, ² looking unto Jesus, the Author and Perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. ³ For consider Him who endured such hostility from sinners against Himself, lest you be weary and discouraged in your souls.
