⁷ For those who sleep, sleep at night, and those getting drunk, are drunk at night.

³⁶ And Abigail came to Nabal. And behold, he had a banquet in his house, as the banquet of a king, and the heart of Nabal was merry within him, and he was very drunk. And she told him nothing great or small till the morning light. ³⁷ And it came to pass in the morning, when Nabal recovered from his wine, that his wife told him these words. And his heart died within him, and he became as a stone.

¹³ But as when terror falls upon men, with dread and a sound in the night,

¹⁵ sending a dream, or in the meditation of the night (as when a dreadful alarm happens to fall upon men, while sleeping on the bed),

²⁹ Who has woe? Who has trouble? Who has quarrels? And who complains and disputes? Who has bruises without a cause? Whose eyes are livid? ³⁰ Are not those of them that stay long at wine? Are not those of them that haunt the places where banquets are? Be not drunk with wine; but converse with just men, and converse with them openly. ³¹ For if you should set your eyes on bowls and cups, you shall afterwards go more naked than a pestle. ³² But at last such a one stretches himself out as one smitten by a serpent, and venom is diffused through him as by a horned serpent. ³³ Whenever your eyes shall behold a strange woman, then your mouth shall speak perverse things. ³⁴ And you shall lie as in the midst of the sea, and as a pilot in a great storm. ³⁵ And you shall say, They struck me, and I was not pained; and they mocked me, and I knew it not: when will it be morning, that I may go and seek those with whom I may go in company?

⁴ My heart wanders, and transgression overwhelms me; my soul is occupied with fear. ⁵ Prepare the table; eat, drink. Arise, you princes, and prepare your shields.

⁴ They drank wine, and praised the gods of gold, and of silver, and of brass, and of iron, and of wood, and of stone. ⁵ In the same hour came forth fingers of a man's hand, and wrote in front of the lamp on the plaster of the wall of the king's house: and the king saw the knuckles of the hand that wrote.

³⁴ "But take heed to yourselves, lest your hearts be weighed down with carousing, drunkenness, and worries of life, and that Day come upon you unexpectedly. ³⁵ For it will come as a snare on all those who live on the face of the whole earth.

¹⁵ "For these are not drunk, as you suppose, for it is just the third hour of the day.

¹³ Let us walk properly, as in the day, not in revelries and drinking bouts, not in orgies and debaucheries, not in strife and jealousy.

³⁴ Awake to righteousness, and do not sin, for some have no knowledge of God. I speak this to your shame.

¹⁴ Therefore He says: "Awake, you who are sleeping, and arise from the dead, and Christ will shine on you."

¹³ receiving the wages of unrighteousness, counting as a pleasure to revel in the daytime, they are spots and blemishes, reveling in their deceptions while they feast with you,
