² And Jonathan said to him, Far be it from you! You shall not die! Behold, my father will not do anything great or small without first telling it to me. And why should my father hide this matter from me? This thing is not so.

¹ And the Philistines fought with Israel. And the men of Israel fled from before the Philistines, and they fell down wounded in the mountain in Gilboa. ² And the Philistines press closely on Saul and his sons, and the Philistines killed Jonathan, Abinadab, and Malchishua, Saul's sons. ³ And the battle prevailed against Saul, and the archers found him, and wounded him below his ribs. ⁴ And Saul said to his armorbearer, Draw your sword and pierce me through with it; lest these uncircumcised come and pierce me through, and mock me. ¹⁸ Now the three sons of Zeruiah were there, Joab, Abishai, and Asahel: and Asahel was swift in his feet as a wild gazelle in the field.

⁸ And from Gad these separated themselves to David from the wilderness, strong mighty men of war, bearing shields and spears, and their faces were as the faces of lions, and they were as nimble as gazelles upon the mountains in speed:
