² And the king said to Joab commander of the army, who was with him, Go now through all the tribes of Israel and Judah, from Dan even to Beersheba, and number the people, and I will know the number of the people.

¹³ and your oxen and your sheep are multiplied to you, and your silver and your gold are multiplied to you, and all your possessions are multiplied to you, ¹⁴ that you should be exalted in your heart, and forget the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage;

¹ And all the children of Israel went out, and all the congregation was gathered as one man, from Dan even to Beersheba, and in the land of Gilead, to the Lord at Mizpah.

¹³ And Joab the son of Zeruiah, and the servants of David, went forth from Hebron, and met them at the Fountain of Gibeon, at the same place: and these sat down by the fountain on this side, and those by the fountain on that side.

⁵ Cursed is the man who trusts in man, and will lean his arm of flesh upon him, while his heart departs from the Lord.

⁷ And lest I exalt myself above measure by the excellence of the revelations, a thorn in the flesh was given to me, an angel of Satan, that it might beat me, lest I exalt myself above measure.
