¹⁴ And just as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of Man be lifted up,

⁷ And the people came to Moses and said, We have sinned, for we have spoken against the Lord, and against you: pray therefore to the Lord, and let Him take away the serpent from us. ⁸ And Moses prayed to the Lord for the people; and the Lord said to Moses, Make for yourself a serpent, and put it on a staff; and it shall come to pass that whenever a serpent shall bite a man, everyone so bitten that looks upon it shall live. ⁹ And Moses made a serpent of brass, and put it upon a staff. And it came to pass that whenever a serpent bit a man, and he looked on the bronze serpent, he lived.

⁴ He removed the high places, and broke in pieces the pillars, and utterly destroyed the groves, and the bronze serpent which Moses made, because until those days the children of Israel burned incense to it; and he called it Nehushtan.

¹⁶ For many dogs have compassed Me; the assembly of the evildoers has enclosed Me; they pierced My hands and My feet.

⁵⁴ How then would the Scriptures be fulfilled, that it must happen thus?"

³¹ Then taking the twelve aside, He said to them, "Behold, we are going up to Jerusalem, and all things that are written by the prophets concerning the Son of Man will be accomplished. ³² For He will be betrayed to the Gentiles, and will be mocked and insulted and spit upon, ³³ and having scourged Him, they will kill Him. And on the third day He will rise again."

²⁰ and how the chief priests and our rulers handed Him over to be condemned to death, and they crucified Him.

²⁶ Ought not the Christ to have suffered these things and to enter into His glory?" ²⁷ And beginning at Moses and all the Prophets, He expounded to them in all the Scriptures the things concerning Himself.

⁴⁴ Then He said to them, "These are the words which I spoke to you while I was still with you, that all things must be fulfilled which were written in the Law of Moses and the Prophets and the Psalms concerning Me." ⁴⁵ And He opened their understanding, that they might comprehend the Scriptures. ⁴⁶ Then He said to them, "Thus it is written, and thus it was necessary for the Christ to suffer and to rise from the dead the third day,

²⁸ Therefore Jesus said to them, "When you lift up the Son of Man, then you will know that I AM, and from Myself I do nothing; but just as My Father taught Me, these things I speak.

³² And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all peoples to Myself." ³³ This He said, signifying by what kind of death He was about to die. ³⁴ The crowd answered Him, "We heard from the law that the Christ abides forever; and so how do You say, 'The Son of Man must be lifted up'? Who is this Son of Man?"

²³ Him, being delivered by the determined purpose and foreknowledge of God, you took, and by lawless hands, nailing Him to a cross, you killed Him;

²⁷ "For truly they were assembled against Your holy Servant Jesus, whom You anointed, both Herod and Pontius Pilate, with the Gentiles and the people of Israel, ²⁸ to do all that Your hand and Your counsel foreordained to come to pass.
