¹ And it comes to pass when Saul has turned back from after the Philistines, that they declare to him, saying, `Lo, David [is] in the wilderness of En-gedi.. <sup>2</sup> And Saul takes three thousand chosen men out of all Israel, and goes to seek David and his men, on the front of the rocks of the wild goats, <sup>3</sup> and he comes in unto folds of the flock, on the way, and there [is] a cave, and Saul goes in to cover his feet; and David and his men in the sides of the cave are abiding. <sup>4</sup> And the men of David say unto him, `Lo, the day of which Yahweh said unto you, Lo, I am giving your enemy into your hand, and you have done to him as it is good in your eyes;' and David rises and cuts off the skirt of the upper robe which [is] on Saul--gently. ⁵ And it comes to pass afterwards that the heart of David smites him, because that he has cut off the skirt which [is] on Saul, ⁶ and he said to his men, `Far be it from me, by Yahweh; I do not do this thing to my lord--to the anointed of Yahweh--to put forth my hand against him, for the anointed of Yahweh he [is].. <sup>7</sup> And David subdues his men by words, and has not permitted them to rise against Saul; and Saul has risen from the cave, and goes on the way;" <sup>8</sup> and David rises afterwards, and goes out from the cave, and calls after Saul, saying, `My lord, O king!' And Saul looks attentively behind him, and David bows--face to the earth--and does obeisance. ⁹ And David said to Saul, `Why do you hear the words of man, saying, Lo, David is seeking your evil? <sup>10</sup> Lo, this day have your eyes seen how that Yahweh has given you to-day into my hand in the cave; and [one] said to slay you, and [mine eye] has pity on you, and I say, I do not put forth my hand against my lord, for the anointed of Yahweh he [is]. <sup>11</sup> `And, my father, see, yea see the skirt of your upper robe in my hand; for by cutting off the skirt of your upper robe, and I have not slain you, know and see that there is not in my hand evil and transgression, and I have not sinned against you, and you are hunting my soul to take it!" ¹² `Yahweh does judge between me and you, and Yahweh has avenged me of you, and my hand is not on you;" <sup>13</sup> as said the simile of the ancients, From the wicked goes out wickedness, and my hand is not on you. <sup>14</sup> `After whom has the king of Israel come out? after whom are you pursuing? --after a dead dog! after one flea! ¹⁵ And Yahweh has been for judge, and has judged between me and you, yea, he sees and pleads my cause, and does deliver me out of your hand.. ¹⁶ And it comes to pass, when David completes to speak these words unto Saul, that Saul said, `Is this your voice, my son David?' and Saul lifts up his voice, and weeps. <sup>17</sup> And he said unto David, `More righteous you [are] than I; for you have done me good, and I have done you evil;" ¹⁸ and you have declared to-day how that you have done good with me, how that Yahweh shut me up into your hand, and you did not slay me, ¹⁹ and that a man does find his enemy, and has sent him away in a good manner; and Yahweh does repay you good for that which you did to me this day. ²⁰ `And, now, lo, I have known that you do certainly reign, and the kingdom of Israel has stood in your hand;" ²¹ and, now, swear to me by Yahweh--you do not cut off my seed after me, nor do you destroy my name from the house of my father.. ²² And David swears to Saul, and Saul goes unto his house, and David and his men have gone up unto the fortress.

¹⁹ And the Ziphites go up unto Saul to Gibeah, saying, `Is not David hiding himself with us in fortresses, in the forest, in the height of Hachilah, which [is] on the south of the desolate place?

²⁸ And Saul turns back from pursuing after David, and goes to meet the Philistines, therefore they have called that place `The Rock of Divisions.. ²⁹ And David goes up thence, and abides in fortresses [at] En-gedi.

⁵ Remove away the wicked one from before the king, And his throne shall be established in righteousness."

¹² If a ruler attends to the word of falsehood, All his ministers will be wicked."

⁹ Men of slander have been in you to shed blood, And on the mountains they have eaten in you, Wickedness they have done in your midst."

³ With their evil they are rejoicing the king, and with their dissimulation, the chiefs."

² and Saul chooses for himself three thousand [men] out of Israel; and two thousand are with Saul in Michmash, and in the hill-country of Beth-El; and a thousand have been with Jonathan in Gibeah of Benjamin; and the remnant of the people he has sent each to his tents.

² And Saul rises, and goes down unto the wilderness of Ziph, and with him three thousand men, chosen ones of Israel, to seek David in the wilderness of Ziph.

³² The wicked is watching for the righteous one And is seeking to put him to death.

¹² Those seeking my soul lay traps, And those seeking after evil to me, they speak woes; The entire day they mumble deceptions."

¹⁸ The lofty mountains are for the ibexes; The crags are a refuge for the coneys.

⁶ When they are released into the hands of Our Crag, their Grand Judge, Then they will hear my sayings and see that they are pleasant."

²⁴ and he has gone out, and his servants have come in, and look, and lo, the doors of the upper chamber are bolted, and they say, `He is only covering his feet in the inner chamber of the wall..

¹ {A Davidic Inscribed Psalm{ {When he ran away from the face of Saul into the cave.{ Be gracious to me, O Elohim, be gracious to me; For in You my soul takes refuge, And in the shadow of Your wings shall I take refuge Until the woes pass away." ² I am calling to Elohim Supreme, To El Who is perfecting for me." ³ He shall send from the heavens and save me; He will reproach the one gasping after me; {Interlude{ Elohim shall send His benignity and His faithfulness. ⁴ My soul is in the midst of parent-lions; Let me confidently lie among flaming foes, even sons of humanity; Their teeth are spears and arrows, And their tongue a sharp sword." ⁵ O be exalted over the heavens, O Elohim; Let Your glory be over the entire earth!" ⁶ They have prepared a net for my footsteps; My soul is bent down; They have dug a pit before me, Yet they have fallen into its midst. {Interlude{ " ⁷ My heart is established, O Elohim, my heart is established; I will sing and make melody." ⁸ Do rouse, O my glory; Do rouse, O zither and harp. ¹ {Contemplating, Davidic{ {When he was in the Cave; a Prayer{ With my voice am I crying out to Yahweh; With my voice am I supplicating to Yahweh." ² I am pouring out my concern before Him; My distress am I telling before Him. ³ When my spirit droops within me, Then it is You Yourself Who knows my tracks; In the path that I am walking, They have buried a snare for me." ⁴ I look to the right, and I see, Yet there is no one recognizing my need; Hope of fleeing has perished from me; There is no one caring for my soul." ⁵ I cry out to You, O Yahweh; I say, You are my Refuge, My Portion in the land of the living." ⁶ Do attend to my appeal, For I am exceedingly impoverished; Rescue me from my persecutors, For they are tougher than I." ⁷ Bring my soul forth from this enclosure To acclaim Your Name; The righteous shall compass about me, For You shall deal bountifully with me."

⁷ And it is declared to Saul that David has come in to Keilah, and Saul said, `Elohim has made him known for my hand, for he has been shut in, to enter into a city of doors and bar..

¹⁷ and said unto him, `Fear not, for the hand of Saul my father does not find you, and you do reign over Israel, and I am to you for second, and also so knows Saul my father..

¹⁰ Lo, this day have your eyes seen how that Yahweh has given you to-day into my hand in the cave; and [one] said to slay you, and [mine eye] has pity on you, and I say, I do not put forth my hand against my lord, for the anointed of Yahweh he [is].

¹⁸ and you have declared to-day how that you have done good with me, how that Yahweh shut me up into your hand, and you did not slay me,

²⁸ `Bear, I pray you, with the transgression of your handmaid, for Yahweh does certainly make to my lord a stedfast house; for the battles of Yahweh has my lord fought, and evil is not found in you [all] your days. <sup>29</sup> And man rises to pursue you and to seek your soul, and the soul of my lord has been bound in the bundle of life with Yahweh your Elohim; as to the soul of your enemies, He does sling them out in the midst of the hollow of the sling. <sup>30</sup> `And it has been, when Yahweh does to my lord according to all the good which He has spoken concerning you, and appointed you for leader over Israel,

⁸ And Abishai said unto David, `Elohim has shut up to-day your enemy into your hand; and, now, let me smite him, I pray you, with a spear, even into the earth at once--and I do repeat [it] to him.. <sup>9</sup> And David said unto Abishai, `Destroy him not; for who has put forth his hand against the anointed of Yahweh, and been acquitted?. ¹⁰ And David said, `Yahweh lives; except Yahweh does smite him, or his day come that he has died, or into battle he go down, and has been consumed-. ¹¹ far be it from me, by Yahweh, from putting forth my hand against the anointed of Yahweh; and, now, take, I pray you, the spear which [is] at his pillow, and the cruse of water, and we go away..

²³ and Yahweh does turn back to each his righteousness and his faithfulness, in that Yahweh has given you to-day into [my] hand, and I have not been willing to put forth my hand against the anointed of Yahweh,

⁸ and bring in the head of Ish-Bosheth unto David in Hebron, and say unto the king, `Lo, the head of Ish-Bosheth, son of Saul, your enemy, who sought your life; and Yahweh does give to my lord the king vengeance this day, of Saul and of his seed..

³¹ If the men of my tent have never said:Who can be found who has not been satisfied with his flesh?

⁹ `Wherefore have you despised the word of Yahweh, to do the evil thing in His eyes? Uriah the Hittite you have smitten by the sword, and his wife you have taken to you for a wife, and him you have slain by the sword of the Bene-Ammon.

¹⁰ And the heart of David smites him, after that he has numbered the people, and David said unto Yahweh, `I have sinned greatly in that which I have done, and now, O Yahweh, cause to pass away, I pray You, the iniquity of Your servant, for I have acted very foolishly..

¹⁹ because your heart [is] tender, and you are humbled because of Yahweh, in your hearing that which I have spoken against this place, and against its inhabitants, to be for a desolation, and for a reviling, and do rend your garments, and weep before Me--I also have heard--the affirmation of Yahweh-.

²⁰ seeing that, if our heart should be censuring us, God is greater than our heart, and He knows all." ²¹ Beloved, if our heart should not be censuring us, we have boldness toward God,

¹⁴ And David said unto him, `How wast you not afraid to put forth your hand to destroy the anointed of Yahweh?.

³ And Naboth said unto Ahab, `Far be it from me, by Yahweh, my giving the inheritance of my fathers to you;.

²⁹ If I have rejoiced in the misfortune of the one hating me, And I have roused myself in joy because evil had overtaken hi. ³⁰ (Yet I have not allowed my mouth to sin By asking with an imprecation against his soul),

⁴⁴ Yet I am saying to you, Love your enemies, and pray for those who are persecuting you,

¹⁴ Bless those who are persecuting you: bless, and do not curse,

¹⁵ See that no one may be rendering evil for evil to anyone, but always pursue that which is good for one another as well as for all."

³³ and blessed [is] your discretion, and blessed [are] you in that you have restrained me this day from coming in with blood, and to restrain my hand to myself.

⁴ If I have requited evil to one at peace with me-- I, who pulled off valueless spoils from my foe-.

¹⁷ To no one render evil for evil, making ideal provision in the sight of all men, ¹⁸ if possible that which comes out from yourselves. Being at peace with all mankind, ¹⁹ you are not avenging yourselves, beloved, but be giving place to His indignation, for it is written, Mine is vengeance! I will repay! the Lord is saying. " ²⁰ But "If your enemy should be hungering, give him the morsel; if he should be thirsting, give him to drink, for in doing this you will be heaping embers of fire on his head." ²¹ Be not conquered by evil; but conquer evil with good.

³ And falling is Abram on his face.

¹² Glorify your father and your mother, that your days may be prolonged on the ground which Yahweh your Elohim is giving to you.

⁴¹ The youth has gone, and David has risen from Ezel, at the south, and falls on his face to the earth, and bows himself three times, and they kiss one another, and they weep one with another, till David exerted himself;"

²³ And Abigail sees David, and hastes and comes down from off the ass, and falls before David on her face, and bows herself to the earth, ²⁴ and falls at his feet and said, `On me, my lord, the iniquity; and let, I pray you, your handmaid speak in your ear, and hear the words of your handmaid.

¹⁷ And Saul discerns the voice of David, and said, `Is this your voice, my son David?' and David said, `My voice, my lord, O king!.

⁷ Render to all their dues, to whom tax, tax, to whom tribute, tribute, to whom fear, fear, to whom honor, honor."

¹⁷ Honor all; love the brotherhood; fear God; honor the king.

¹⁶ You shall not go about as a defamer among your kinsmen; you shall not stand against the blood of your associate:I am Yahweh.

¹⁹ And, now, let, I pray you, my lord the king hear the words of his servant:if Yahweh has moved you against me, let Him accept a present; and if the sons of men--cursed [are] they before Yahweh, for they have cast me out to-day from being admitted into the inheritance of Yahweh, saying, Go, serve other elohims.

⁵ The one slandering his associate in secret, I shall efface him. The haughty of eyes and inflated of heart, I shall not endure him."

²⁸ A man of duplicity sends forth a quarrel, And a babbler parts one from his mentor."

⁴ The evildoer attends to lawless lips; The false man gives ear to the woe-scheming tongue.

⁸ The words of a babbler are like tidbits; They descend to the chambers of one's belly.

²³ A north wind travails forth a downpour, And a clandestine tongue makes a menacing face."

²⁰ When the wood reaches its limit, a fire is quenched, And when there is no babbler, a quarrel calms down." ²¹ Coal for embers and wood for fire, And a quarrelsome man to heat a contention." ²² The words of a babbler are like tidbits; They descend to the chambers of one's belly.

²⁸ A false tongue hates those crushed by it, And a slick mouth works degradation."

²¹ Moreover, to all the words that people speak do not give your heart's attention, That you may not hear your servant maledicting you;" ²² For even many times your heart knows That you yourself also have maledicted others.

⁶ And the tongue is a fire, a world of injustice. The tongue is constituted among our members that which is spotting the whole body, and setting the wheel of our lineage aflame, and is set aflame by Gehenna."

⁴ And the men of David say unto him, `Lo, the day of which Yahweh said unto you, Lo, I am giving your enemy into your hand, and you have done to him as it is good in your eyes;' and David rises and cuts off the skirt of the upper robe which [is] on Saul--gently.

⁸ And Abishai said unto David, `Elohim has shut up to-day your enemy into your hand; and, now, let me smite him, I pray you, with a spear, even into the earth at once--and I do repeat [it] to him.. <sup>9</sup> And David said unto Abishai, `Destroy him not; for who has put forth his hand against the anointed of Yahweh, and been acquitted?.

¹⁵ Saying, You must not touch My anointed ones, And to My prophets you must not do evil!"

²⁷ and David rises and goes, he and his men, and smites among the Philistines two hundred men, and David brings in their foreskins, and they set them before the king, to be son-in-law to the king; and Saul gives to him Michal his daughter for a wife.

¹⁴ And David abides in the wilderness, in fortresses, and abides in the hill-country, in the wilderness of Ziph; and Saul seeks him all the days, and Elohim has not given him into his hand.

²³ And see and know of all the hiding-places where he hides himself, and you have turned back unto me prepared, and I have gone with you, and it has been, if he is in the land, that I have searched him out through all the thousands of Judah..

¹⁸ and he said, `Why [is] this--my lord is pursuing after his servant? for what have I done, and what [is] in my hand evil?

²⁰ `And now, let not my blood fall to the earth over-against the face of Yahweh, for the king of Israel has come out to seek one flea, as [one] pursues the partridge in mountains..

¹³ And his servants come nigh, and speak unto him, and say, `My father, a great thing had the prophet spoken unto you--do you not do [it]? and surely, when he has said unto you, Wash, and be clean..

¹⁶ And should it grow more, You hunt me like a black lion; Then You return; You send marvelous works against me.

³ O Yahweh my Elohim, if I have done this, If there is iniquity in my palms, ⁴ If I have requited evil to one at peace with me-- I, who pulled off valueless spoils from my foe-.

⁷ For gratuitously have they buried their net for me; Gratuitously have they delved a grave for my soul.

¹¹ May a man of slander no more become established in the land; A man of violence, may evil hunt him with jolt after jolt."

¹ A tender response turns away fury, Yet grievous speech kindles anger."

¹⁸ They hunt our steps, keeping us from walking in our squares; Our end draws near; our days reach their fill; indeed our end has come."

¹⁸ And you have said:Thus said the Lord Yahweh:Woe to those sowing pillows for all joints of the arm, And to those making the kerchiefs For the head of every stature--to hunt souls, The souls do you hunt of My people? And the souls you have do you keep alive?

² The kindly one has perished from the earth, and there is none upright among humanity. All of them are ambushing for blood; each man is hunting his brother with a seine net."

²⁵ but it is that the word written in their law may be fulfilled, that they hate Me gratuitously."

⁵ And saying is Sarai to Abram, "My wrong comes on you. I, I gave my maid into your bosom. And seeing is she that she is pregnant, and lightly esteemed am I in her eyes. Judging is Yahweh Elohim between me and her.

⁵³ The Elohim of Abraham and the Elohim of Nahor, the Elohim of the forefathers, shall judge between us.And swearing is Jacob by the Awe of his father Isaac.

²⁷ And I--I have not sinned against you, and you are doing with me evil--to fight against me. Yahweh, the Judge, does judge to-day between the sons of Israel and the sons of Ammon..

⁸ Howbeit, as for me, I inquire of El, And before Elohim do I place my cause,

⁸ Yahweh, He shall adjudicate the peoples; Judge me, O Yahweh, according to my righteousness, And according to my integrity, O Supreme. ⁹ O let the evil of the wicked reach an end, And may You establish the righteous one, Testing the hearts and innermost being, O righteous Elohim.

¹ {Davidic{ Do contend, O Yahweh, with my contenders; Fight against those fighting me."

¹ Judge me, O Elohim, and do contend my cause against an unkind nation. From the man of deceit and iniquity, may You deliver me."

¹ O El of avenging, Yahweh, El of avenging, shine forth!"

¹⁹ you are not avenging yourselves, beloved, but be giving place to His indignation, for it is written, Mine is vengeance! I will repay! the Lord is saying. "

²³ Who, being reviled, reviled not again; suffering, threatened not, yet gave it over to Him Who is judging justly,

¹⁰ And they cry with a loud voice, saying, "Till when, O Owner, holy and true, art Thou not judging and avenging our blood on those dwelling on the earth?

¹⁶ From their fruits you shall be recognizing them. Not from thorns are they culling grapes, nor from star thistles figs." ¹⁷ Thus every good tree ideal fruit is producing, yet the rotten tree noxious fruit is producing." ¹⁸ A good tree can not bear noxious fruit, neither is a rotten tree producing ideal fruit."

²⁰ Consequently, from their fruits you shall surely be recognizing them."

³³ Either make the tree ideal and its fruit ideal, or make the tree rotten and its fruit rotten, for by its fruit the tree is known." ³⁴ Progeny of vipers! How can you be speaking what is good, being wicked? For out of the superabundance of the heart the mouth is speaking."

¹⁹ For out of the heart are coming wicked reasonings, murders, adulteries, prostitutions, thefts, false testimonies, calumnies."

¹ And the men of Ephraim say unto him, `What [is] this thing you have done to us--not to call for us when you did go to fight with Midian?' and they strive with him severely;" <sup>2</sup> and he said unto them, `What have I done now like you? are not the gleanings of Ephraim better than the harvest of Abi-Ezer? ³ Into your hand has Elohim given the heads of Midian, Oreb and Zeeb; and what have I been able to do like you?' Then their temper desisted from off him in his speaking this thing.

⁴³ And the Philistine said unto David, `Am I a dog that you are coming unto me with staves?' and the Philistine reviles David by his elohims,

⁸ And it is displeasing to Abner exceedingly, because of the words of Ish-Bosheth, and he said, `The head of a dog [am] I--that in reference to Judah to-day I do kindness with the house of Saul your father, unto his brethren, and unto his friends, and have not delivered you into the hand of David--that you charge against me iniquity concerning the woman to-day?

²⁰ And David turns back to bless his house, and Michal daughter of Saul goes out to meet David, and said, `How honorable to-day was the king of Israel, who was uncovered to-day before the eyes of the handmaids of his servants, as one of the vain ones is openly uncovered!.

⁸ And he bows himself, and said, `What [is] your servant, that you have turned unto the dead dog--such as I?.

⁹ And Abishai son of Zeruiah said unto the king, `Why does this dead dog revile my lord the king? let me pass over, I pray you, and I turn aside his head..

⁷ And Jezebel his wife said unto him, `You now do execute rule over Israel! rise, eat bread, and let your heart be glad, --I do give to you the vineyard of Naboth the Jezreelite..

¹² `Yahweh does judge between me and you, and Yahweh has avenged me of you, and my hand is not on you;"

⁴ and David sends spies, and knows that Saul has come unto Nachon,

²² and Joash the king has not remembered the kindness that Jehoiada his father did with him, and slays his son, and in his death he said, `Yahweh does see, and require..

¹⁵⁴ Do contend my cause and redeem me; Revive me with Your promise.

² Hear, you peoples, all of you! Attend, O earth and its fullness! My Lord Yahweh is coming among you as a Witness--My Lord, from His holy temple."

⁹ The turbulence of Yahweh I will bear, for I have sinned against Him, till He is contending my contention, and shall execute my judgment. He will bring me forth to the light; I shall see by His righteousness."

⁴ And running is Esau to meet him. And embracing him is he, and falling on his neck and kissing him, and they are weeping.

²⁵ How savory are words of uprightness, Yet how can correction from you be correcting?

¹¹ Apricots of gold in pictures of silver Is a word aptly spoken.

¹⁵ for I will be giving you a mouth and wisdom, which all those opposing you shall not be able to withstand or contradict."

¹⁰ And they were not strong enough to withstand the wisdom and the spirit with which he spoke.

²⁶ And identifying them is Judah, and is saying, "More just is Thamar than I, therefore, for I did not give her to Shelah, my son.Yet not continue does he to know her further.

²⁷ Then Pharaoh sent and called for Moses and for Aaron and said to them: I have sinned this time. Yahweh is the righteous One, and I and my people are the wicked.

²¹ And Saul said, `I have sinned; turn back, my son David, for I do evil to you no more, because that my soul has been precious in your eyes this day; lo, I have acted foolishly, and do err very greatly..

⁶ So He will make your righteousness shine forth like the light, And your right judgment like the noonday sun."

⁴ saying, "I sinned in giving up innocent blood.Yet they said, "What is it to us? You should be seeing to that!"

¹² And David said, `Do the possessors of Keilah shut me up, and my men, into the hand of Saul?' And Yahweh said, `They shut [you] up..

⁸ And Abishai said unto David, `Elohim has shut up to-day your enemy into your hand; and, now, let me smite him, I pray you, with a spear, even into the earth at once--and I do repeat [it] to him..

⁸ And You have not locked me up into the hand of the enemy; You have made my feet stand in a wide place.

² and he said to his mother, `The eleven hundred silverlings which have been taken of your, and [of which] you have sworn, and also spoken in mine ears; lo, the silver [is] with me, I have taken it;' and his mother said, `Blessed [is] my son of Yahweh..

²¹ And Saul said, `Blessed [are] you of Yahweh, for you have pity on me;"

²⁵ And Saul said unto David, `Blessed [are] you, my son David, also working you do work, and also prevailing you do prevail.' And David goes on his way, and Saul has turned back to his place.

²⁰ Yahweh requited me according to my righteousness; According to the purity of my hands He recompensed me.

²¹ If one hating you is hungry, give him bread to eat, And if he is thirsty, give him water to drink, ²² For you will be banking embers on his head, And Yahweh Himself shall repay you."

¹⁴ and, now, your kingdom does not stand, Yahweh has sought for Himself a man according to His own heart, and Yahweh charges him for leader over His people, for you have not kept that which Yahweh commanded you..

³⁰ And the anger of Saul burns against Jonathan, and he said to him, `Son of a perverse rebellious woman! have I not known that you are fixing on the son of Jesse to your shame, and to the shame of the nakedness of your mother? ³¹ for all the days that the son of Jesse lives on the ground you are not established, you and your kingdom; and now, send and bring him unto me, for he [is] a son of death..

¹⁷ And the word of Abner was with the elders of Israel, saying, `Heretofore you have been seeking David for king over you, ¹⁸ and now, do [it], for Yahweh has spoken of David saying, By the hand of David my servant--to save My people Israel out of the hand of the Philistines, and out of the hand of all their enemies..

²⁵ For he has stretched his hand out against El, And he makes himself masterful against Him Who Suffices.

³ Now, hearing of it, King Herod was disturbed, and all Jerusalem with him. ⁴ And, gathering all the chief priests and scribes of the people, he ascertained from them where the Christ is born. ⁵ Now they say to him, "In Bethlehem of Judea, for thus it is written through the prophet: ⁶ 'And you, Bethlehem, land of Judah,
Are you in any respect least among the mentors of Judah?
For out of you shall come forth the Ruler
Who shall shepherd My people Israel.'"

¹³ Now, at their retiring into their country, lo! a messenger of the Lord is appearing in a trance to Joseph, saying, "Being roused, take along the little Boy and His mother and flee into Egypt, and be there till I should speak to you, for Herod is about to be seeking the little Boy to destroy Him"

¹⁶ Then Herod, perceiving that he was scoffed at by the magi, was very furious, and, dispatching, he massacred all the boys in Bethlehem and in all its boundaries, from two years and below, according to the time which he ascertains exactly from the magi.

²³ And now, swear to me by the Elohim. Behold! Should you be false to me and to my propagator and to my progeny--! According to the kindness which I do to you shall you do with me, and with the land in which you sojourn.

⁴⁸ And saying is Laban to Jacob, "Behold! This mound and this monument which I raised, is witness between me and you today.

¹⁴ and not only while I am alive do you do with me the kindness of Yahweh, and I die not, ¹⁵ but you do not cut off your kindness from my house unto the eon, nor in Yahweh's cutting off the enemies of David, each one from off the face of the ground.. ¹⁶ And Jonathan covenants with the house of David, and Yahweh has sought [it] from the hand of the enemies of David;" ¹⁷ and Jonathan adds to cause David to swear, because he loves him, for with the love of his own soul he has loved him.

⁶ let there be given to us seven men of his sons, and we have hanged them before Yahweh, in the height of Saul, the chosen of Yahweh.' And the king said, `I do give;. ⁷ and the king has pity on Mephibosheth son of Jonathan, son of Saul, because of the oath of Yahweh that [is] between them, between David and Jonathan son of Saul;" ⁸ and the king takes the two sons of Rizpah daughter of Aiah, whom she bore to Saul, Armoni and Mephibosheth, and the five sons of Michal daughter of Saul whom she bare to Adriel son of Barzillai the Meholathite,

¹⁶ For men are swearing by a greater, and to them an oath for confirmation is an end of all contradiction,

²⁹ And David goes up thence, and abides in fortresses [at] En-gedi.

²⁴ With his lips, one who hates dissembles, Yet within him he firmly sets deceit;" ²⁵ When his voice sounds generous, do not believe him, For seven abhorrences are in his heart."

¹⁶ Lo! I am dispatching you as a sheep in the midst of wolves. Become, then, prudent as serpents and artless as doves." ¹⁷ Now take heed of men, for they will be giving you up to Sanhedrins, and in their synagogues will they be scourging you."

²⁴ Yet Jesus Himself did not entrust Himself to them, because of His knowing all men,
