¹ The words of the Assembler, son of David, king in Jerusalem:" ² Vanity of vanities, says the Assembler; Vanity of vanities, the whole is vanity." ³ What advantage has a human in all his toil Which he toils under the sun? ⁴ One generation goes, and another generation comes, Yet the earth is standing for the eon." ⁵ The sun rises, and the sun sets And gasps back to its place, That it may radiate there once more." ⁶ Going to the south and turning around to the north, Around and around the wind is going, Yet on its courses the wind returns." ⁷ All the watercourses are flowing to the sea, Yet there is no filling of the sea; To the place from which the watercourses are flowing, There they return to go forth again." ⁸ All the words are weary; A man cannot utter it. The eye is not satisfied with seeing, Nor is the ear filled with hearing." ⁹ What occurred once, it shall occur again, And what was done, it shall be done again. There is nothing at all new under the sun." ¹⁰ Is there anything of which one may say:See this, it is new? It has already occurred In eons that were before us? ¹¹ There is no remembrance of former generations, And also for those who shall come after us, A remembrance of them shall not continue With those who shall come afterward." ¹² I myself, the Assembler, came to be king over Israel in Jerusalem." ¹³ I applied my heart to inquiring and exploring by wisdom concerning all that is done under the heavens:it is an experience of evil Elohim has given to the sons of humanity to humble them by it. ¹⁴ I saw all the deeds that are done under the sun, And behold, the whole is vanity and a grazing on wind." ¹⁵ What is distorted cannot be set in order, And what is lacking cannot be counted." ¹⁶ I spoke with my heart, saying, Behold, I have grown great and have added in wisdom Over all who were before me in Jerusalem; My heart has seen much of wisdom and knowledge." ¹⁷ Then I applied my heart to know wisdom, As well as to know about raving and frivolity; I realize that even this, it is a grazing on wind." ¹⁸ For in much wisdom is much vexation, And he who adds knowledge adds pain."

¹⁹ In the sweat of your face shall you eat your bread, till your return to the ground, for from it are you taken, for soil you are, and to soil are you returning.

The name of Abram's wife is Sarai, and the name of Nahor's wife is Milcah, the daughter of Haran, the father of Milcah and the father of Iscah. ³⁰ Yet coming is Sarai to be barren. No child is hers. ³¹ And taking is Terah Abram, his son, and Lot, the son of Haran, his son's son, and Sarai, his daughter-in-law, wife of Abram, his son, and faring forth is he with them from Ur of the Chaldeans, to go to the land of Canaan. And coming are they as far as Charan, and dwelling there are they. ³² And coming are all the days of Terah to be two hundred and five years. And dying is Terah in Charan.

These are the sons of Adah, wife of Esau. ¹³ And these are the sons of Reuel: Nahas and Zerah, Shammah and Mizzah. These come to be the sons of Bashemath, wife of Esau. ¹⁴ And these come to be the sons of Aholibamah, daughter of Anah, son of Zibeon, wife of Esau: And bearing is she for Esau Jeush and Jaalam, and Korah. ¹⁵ These are the sheiks of the sons of Esau: The sons of Eliphaz, the firstborn of Esau, sheik Teman, sheik Omar, sheik Zepho, sheik Kenaz, ¹⁶ sheik Korah, sheik Gatam, sheik Amalek. ⁹ And saying is Jacob to Pharaoh, "The days of the years of my life's sojourning are a hundred and thirty years. Few and evil come to be the days of the years of my life, and they do not overtake the days of the years of the life of my forefathers in the days of their sojournings.

⁶ Then Joseph died and all his brothers, and all that generation. ⁷ And the sons of Israel were fruitful and were swarming and numerous and very, very staunch. So the land was filling up with them.

And the years of the life of Levi were a hundred thirty-seven years. ¹⁷ The sons of Gershon are Libni and Shimei, according to their families. ¹⁸ The sons of Kohath are Amram, Izhar, Hebron and Uzziel. And the years of the life of Kohath were a hundred thirty-three years. ¹⁹ The sons of Merari are Mahli and Mushi. These are the Levite families according to their genealogical annals. ²⁰ Amram took Jochebed, his aunt, as his wife; and she bore for him Aaron, Moses and Miriam, their sister. And the years of the life of Amram were a hundred thirty-seven years. ²¹ The sons of Izhar are Korah, Nepheg and Zichri. ²² The sons of Uzziel are Mishael, Elzaphan and Sithri. ²³ Aaron took Elisheba, daughter of Amminadab and sister of Nahshon, as his wife; and she bore for him Nadab, Abihu, Eleazar and Ithamar. ²⁴ The sons of Korah are Assir, Elkanah and Abiasaph. These are the Korahite families. ²⁵ Eleazar, son of Aaron, took to himself one from the daughters of Putiel as his wife; and she bore for him Phinehas. These are the heads of the fathers of the Levites according to their families. ²⁶ This Aaron and this Moses are those to whom Yahweh said: Bring forth the sons of Israel from the land of Egypt, according to their hosts. ²⁷ They were the speakers to Pharaoh, king of Egypt, to bring forth the sons of Israel from the land of Egypt, this Moses and this Aaron.

¹³ and the sun stands still, and the moon has stood--till the nation takes vengeance [on] its enemies; is it not written on the Book of the Upright, `and the sun stands in the midst of the heavens, and has not hasted to go in--as a perfect day?. ¹⁴ And there has not been like that day before it or after it, for Yahweh's hearkening to the voice of a man; for Yahweh is fighting for Israel.

¹² lo, I have done according to your words; lo, I have given to you a heart, wise and understanding, that like you there has not been before you, and after you there does not arise like you;" ¹³ and also, that which you have not asked I have given to you, both riches and honor, that there has not been like you a man among the kings all your days;"

¹ And king Solomon is king over all Israel, ² and these [are] the heads whom he has:Azariah son of Zadok [is] the priest; ³ Elihoreph and Ahiah sons of Shisha [are] scribes; Jehoshaphat son of Ahilud [is] remembrancer; ⁴ and Benaiah son of Jehoiada [is] over the host; and Zadok and Abiathar [are] priests; ⁵ and Azariah son of Nathan [is] over the officers; and Zabud son of Nathan [is] minister, friend of the king;" ⁶ And Ahishar [is] over the household, and Adoniram son of Abda [is] over the tribute. ⁷ And Solomon has twelve officers over all Israel, and they have sustained the king and his household--a month in the year is on each one for sustenance;" ⁸ and these [are] their names:Ben-Hur in the hill-country of Ephraim; ⁹ Ben-Dekar in Makaz, and Shaalbim, and Beth-Shemesh, and Elon-Beth-Hanan. ¹⁰ Ben-Hesed [is] in Aruboth, has Sochoh and all the land of Hepher;" ¹¹ Ben-Abinadab [has] all the elevation of Dor, Taphath daughter of Solomon became his wife. ¹² Baana Ben-Ahilud [has] Taanach and Megiddo, and all Beth-Shean, which [is] by Zartanah beneath Jezreel, from Beth-Shean unto Abel-Meholah, unto beyond Jokneam. ¹³ Ben-Geber, in Ramoth-Gilead, has the small towns of Jair son of Manasseh, which [are] in Gilead; he has a portion of Argob that [is] in Bashan, sixty great cities [with] wall and brazen bar. ¹⁴ Ahinadab son of Iddo [has] Mahanaim. ¹⁵ Ahimaaz [is] in Naphtali; he also has taken Basemath daughter of Solomon for a wife. ¹⁶ Baanah Ben-Hushai [is] in Asher, and in Aloth. ¹⁷ Jehoshaphat Ben-Paruah [is] in Issachar. ¹⁸ Shimei Ben-Elah [is] in Benjamin. ¹⁹ Geber Ben-Uri [is] in the land of Gilead, the land of Sihon king of the Amorite, and of Og king of Bashan:and one officer who [is] in the land.

³⁰ and the wisdom of Solomon is greater than the wisdom of any of the sons of the east, and than all the wisdom of Egypt;"

⁷ and I gave no credence to the words till that I have come, and my eyes see, and lo, it was not declared to me--the half; you have added wisdom and goodness unto the report that I heard.

²³ And king Solomon is greater than any of the kings of the earth for riches and for wisdom, ²⁴ and all the earth is seeking the presence of Solomon, to hear his wisdom that Elohim has put into his heart,

⁴² And the days that Solomon has reigned in Jerusalem over all Israel [are] forty years, ⁴³ and Solomon lies with his fathers, and is buried in the city of David his father, and reign does Rehoboam his son in his stead.

²⁰ And Gehazi, servant of Elisha the man of Elohim, said, `Lo, my lord has spared Naaman this Aramean, not to receive from his hand that which he brought; Yahweh lives; surely if I have run after him, then I have taken from him something..

¹⁰ now, wisdom and knowledge give to me, and I go out before this people, and I come in, for who does judge this Your great people?. ¹¹ And Elohim said to Solomon, `Because that this has been with your heart, and you have not asked riches, wealth, and honor, and the life of those hating you, and also many days have not asked, and do ask for yourself wisdom and knowledge, so that you do judge My people over which I have caused you to reign-. ¹² the wisdom and the knowledge is given to you, and riches and wealth and honor I give to you, that there has not been so to the kings who [are] before you, and after you it is not so..

¹² And Huram said, `Blessed [is] Yahweh, Elohim of Israel, who made the heavens and the earth, who has given to David the king a wise son, knowing wisdom and understanding, who does build a house for Yahweh, and a house for his kingdom.

²² And king Solomon becomes greater than any of the kings of the earth for riches and wisdom; ²³ and all the kings of the earth are seeking the presence of Solomon to hear his wisdom that Elohim has put in his heart,

³⁰ And Solomon reigns in Jerusalem over all Israel forty years,

¹⁷ As to the sons of Israel who are dwelling in the cities of Judah--Rehoboam reigns over them. ¹⁸ And king Rehoboam sends Hadoram, who [is] over the tribute, and the sons of Israel cast at him stones, and he dies; and king Rehoboam has strengthened himself to go up into a chariot to flee to Jerusalem;" ¹⁹ and Israel transgress against the house of David unto this day.

⁷ And also, prophets you have appointed to call for you in Jerusalem, saying, A king [is] in Judah, and now it is heard by the king according to these words; and now come, and we take counsel together..

⁶ Then He would tell you obscured secrets of wisdom, For reality has double sides; Hence know this:that Eloah is granting you oblivion of some of your depravity.

²⁸ And He said to mankind, Behold, the fear of Yahweh, it is wisdom, And to withdraw from evil is understanding.

²⁹ When He is quiet, who can condemn? When He conceals His face, who can regard Him? Yet He is over a nation and over humanity alike.

⁹ From its chamber comes the whirlwind, And cold from the sifting winds.

¹⁷ You whose garments are warm When the earth is quiet because of the south wind?

¹⁰ When I set My statute upon it And broke bar and doors, ¹¹ When I said, Unto here shall you come but shall not proceed farther, And here a limit is set to the pride of your billows?

⁴ Be astounded, Yet do not sin; Commune in your heart on your bed, And be still. {Interlude{ "

⁶ As for the enemy, they will come to end like permanent deserts, And You will eliminate their cities; their remembrance will perish with them.

⁴ Yet into the entire earth their voice goes forth, And into the ends of the habitance their declarations. For the sun, He has placed a tent in them, ⁵ So it is like a bridegroom going forth from his canopy; It is elated like a master, to run its path." ⁶ From the end of the heavens is its going forth, And its circling around goes on to their ends, So that nothing is being concealed from its warm penetration."

⁵ Behold, You have made my days as handbreadths, And my transient lifetime is as nothing in front of You. Yea, all of humanity, standing up, is altogether a transitory breath. {Interlude{ " ⁶ Yea, man walks about, merely an image; Yea, they clamor about in vain He piles up goods but does not know who will be gathering them in."

⁹ I bear tidings of righteousness in the vast assembly; Behold, I shall not close off my lips; O Yahweh, You know."

⁹ Common sons of Adam are only a transitory breath, Noted sons of man a lie; If brought up on the scales, They are less than a transitory breath altogether." ¹⁰ Do not trust in extortion, And in pillage, do not place vain hope; Though your estate be producing, do not set your heart on it."

⁵ As with fatness and richness my soul shall be satisfied, And with jubilant lips my mouth shall praise."

⁶ Let me remember my soliloquy in the night; Let me meditate with my heart. So my spirit searched, saying,

³⁶ His seed shall continue for the eon, And his throne as the sun in front of Me, ³⁷ Like the moon, it shall be established for the eon, Faithful like that witness in the sky. {Interlude{ "

⁴⁷ Remember how transient is my life, For what futility have You created all the sons of humanity? ⁴⁸ What master could live and not see death? Could his soul escape from the hand of the unseen? {Interlude{

⁹ Indeed all our days turn around before Your rage; We finish our years like a mumble. ¹⁰ The days of our years, in them are seventy years, And if by mastery there are eighty years, Yet even in their heyday is toil and sorrow, For it is sheared off hurriedly, and we fly away."

²⁴ I am saying, O my El, do not take me away at the half of my days! Your years continue through generation after generations." ²⁵ Beforetime You founded the earth, And the heavens are the work of Your hands." ²⁶ They shall perish, yet You shall stand. All of them shall decay like a cloak; You shall change them like clothing, and they shall pass by." ²⁷ Yet You remain the same, And Your years shall not come to end." ²⁸ The sons of Your servants, they shall tabernacle in serenity, And their seed shall be established before You."

⁵ He has founded the earth on its bases. It shall never slip for the eon and further. ⁶ You covered it with the abyss as clothing; The waters stood above the mountains, ⁷ Yet from Your rebuke they fled; From the sound of Your thunder they hurried away. ⁸ They ascended over the mountains; They descended to the valleys, To the place that You had founded for them." ⁹ You placed a boundary that they would never pass; They shall never return to cover the earth.

¹⁹ He made the moon for appointed times, The sun that knows its setting." ²⁰ You impose darkness, and it becomes night; All the life of the wildwood move about in it, ²¹ The sheltered lions roaring for prey And seeking their food from El. ²² When the sun is radiant again, they gather away, And they recline in their habitations." ²³ Then humanity goes forth to its deeds And to its service until evening.

²⁵ He spoke and recruited a tempestuous wind, And it raised its billows high."

²⁹ He recast the tempest into stillness, And the billows against them were hushed;"

² Great are the works of Yahweh, Sought after by all who delight in them."

⁹⁰ For generation after generation is Your faithfulness; You have established the earth, and it shall stand." ⁹¹ They stand today by Your ordinances, For they all are Your servants."

⁴ A human is like a transitory breath, His days like a passing shadow."

² Attending with your ear to wisdom, And you stretch out your heart to comprehension, ³ Indeed if you call out for understanding, And you lift up your voice for comprehension, ⁴ If you seek it as for silver And search for it as for buried treasures,

⁷ The principal thing is wisdom; acquire wisdom, And with all your acquisition, acquire understanding;"

¹ He shall seek for a pretext who wishes to be parted from friends; Against all sagacity shall he rail.

¹⁵ The heart of one who understands acquires knowledge, And the ear of the wise seeks knowledge."

⁴ Do not weary yourself in order to become rich; In your understanding forbear. ⁵ While your eyes are on it, does it fly away and is not? Indeed riches make wings for themselves And fly away to the heavens like a vulture."

²⁶ My son, do give your heart to me, And let your eyes hold my ways dear."

²⁰ The unseen and Abaddon are never satisfied, And the eyes of man are also never satisfied."

¹⁵ The leech has two daughters, crying:Grant to us, grant to us! They are three that are never satisfied, Four that never say, Enough wealth!:" ¹⁶ The unseen and the restrained womb, The earth when it is not satisfied with water, And fire that never says:Enough wealth!"

⁹ As I grew greater and added more than anyone who was before me in Jerusalem, Indeed my wisdom, it stayed by me." ¹⁰ All that my eyes asked for I did not deny to them; I did not withhold my heart from any rejoicing, For my heart had rejoicing from all my toil, And this itself was my portion from all my toil." ¹¹ Yet when I faced all my deeds that my hands had done, And the toil that I had toiled in doing them, Behold, the whole was vanity and a grazing on wind, And there was nothing of advantage under the sun."

¹⁹ Who knows if he shall be a wise or a frivolous man? Yet he shall have authority over all the fruit of my toil that I toiled, And in which I was wise under the sun; This too is vanity."

²¹ For there is a man whose toil is in wisdom and in knowledge and in success, Yet to another man who has not toiled for it, he must give it as his portion; This too is vanity and a great evil." ²² For what is coming to a man for all his toil, And for the grazing of his heart which he is toiling under the sun? ²³ For all his days his experience is filled with pains and vexation; Even in the night his heart will not lie down; This too, it is vanity."

²⁶ For to the man who is good before Him, He gives wisdom and knowledge and rejoicing; Yet to the sinner He gives the experience of gathering and of collecting wealth, To give it to one who is good before the One, Elohim; This too is vanity and a grazing on wind."

⁹ What advantage does the worker have in what he is toiling? ¹⁰ I see the experience that Elohim gives To the sons of humanity to humble them by it.

¹⁴ I know that all the One, Elohim, is doing, It shall be for the eon; Onto it there can be nothing to add, And from it there can be nothing to subtract; The One, Elohim, He does it that they may fear before Him." ¹⁵ That which is, it already was, And what is to come already has been; And the One, Elohim, He shall seek out what has been pursued away."

¹⁹ For the destiny of the sons of humanity And the destiny of the beast, It is one destiny for them; As death is for this one, so is death for that one, And one spirit is for all; There is no advantage for the human over the beast, For the whole is vanity."

And I am taking away the boundaries of the peoples, and their equipment I rob. And I am bringing down, as a sturdy one, their dwellers, ¹⁴ and my hand is finding, as a nest, the estate of the peoples, and, as one gathers forsaken eggs, the entire earth do I gather. And no one comes to be ruffling a wing, or opening wide the mouth and chirping."

And he shall trample on prefects as clay of a potter, and, as a potter is tramping the mud, so shall you be tramped." ²⁶ Who tells from the beginning, so We will know? And from beforetime, so We will say `Right'? Indeed, there is no telling; indeed, no announcing. Indeed, no one is hearing your sayings,

¹ The spirit of My Lord Yahweh is on Me, because Yahweh anoints Me to bear tidings to the humble. He sends Me to bind up the broken hearted, to herald to captives, liberty, and, to the blind, the unclosing of the eyes, and, to the bound, to take the jubilee,

¹⁴ Who is saying, `I build for myself a large house, And airy upper chambers,' And he has cut out for himself its windows, Ceiled with cedar, and painted with vermilion."

²² Till when do you withdraw yourself, O backsliding daughter? For Yahweh has prepared a new thing in the land, Woman does compass man."

²⁰ `Thus said Yahweh:If you do break My covenant of the day, And My covenant of the night, So that they are not daily and nightly in their season,

³⁷ Who is this who speaks and it comes about if Yahweh does not determine it?

³⁰ Responding is the king to all this by saying, "Is not this Babylon great that I have built to be the house of the kingdom within the might of my safeguarding walls, for the esteem of my honor!"

³⁵ All abiding on the earth are reckoned as naught:According to His will is He doing in the army of the heavens and with those abiding on the earth. And no one will actually clap with his hands and say to Him, "What doest Thou?

⁴ Then Yahweh casts forth a great wind to the sea, and a great tempest is coming on the sea, and the ship reckons to be broken."

² Rise! Go unto Nineveh, the great city, and call out to it the call which I am speaking to you."

¹³ Behold, is it not from Yahweh of hosts that the peoples have labored sufficient for the fire, and the folkstems have fainted sufficient for naught?

¹⁸ What does a carving benefit, that its former has carved it? A molten image and a false apparition, that the former of its form trusts in it, to make mute forbidden idols?

¹¹ The sun and moon stand in their residence; at the light Your arrows are going-- at the brightness of the flashing of Your spear.

⁵ Your forefathers, where are they? And the prophets, are they living for the eon?

⁶ "Happy are those who are hungering and thirsting for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied.

³⁶ For what is it benefiting a man to gain the whole world and forfeit his soul? ³⁷ For what may a man give in exchange for his soul?

²⁶ And according as it occurred in the days of Noah, thus will it be in the days of the Son of Mankind also." ²⁷ They ate, they drank, they married, they took out in marriage, until the day on which Noah entered into the ark, and the deluge came and destroys them all." ²⁸ Likewise, according as it occurred in the days of Lot, they ate, they drank, they bought, they sold, they planted, they built." ²⁹ Yet on the day in which Lot came out from Sodom, fire and sulphur rains from heaven and destroys them all." ³⁰ In accord with these will it be on the day in which the Son of Mankind is unveiled.

⁸ The blast is blowing where it wills, and the sound of it you are hearing, but you are not aware whence it is coming and where it is going. Thus is everyone who is begotten by the water and the spirit."

²⁰ For to vanity was the creation subjected, not voluntarily, but because of Him Who subjects it, in expectation"

²² For we are aware that the entire creation is groaning and travailing together until now. ²³ Yet not only so, but we ourselves also, who have the firstfruit of the spirit, we ourselves also, are groaning in ourselves, awaiting the sonship, the deliverance of our body."

¹⁸ Let no one be deluding himself. If anyone among you is presuming to be wise in this eon, let him become stupid, that he may be becoming wise, ¹⁹ for the wisdom of this world is stupidity with God. For it is written, "He is clutching the wise in their craftiness." ²⁰ And again, The Lord knows the reasonings of the wise, that they are vain."

¹⁴ For you became imitators, brethren, of the ecclesias of God which are in Judea in Christ Jesus. For you suffered the same, even you by your own fellowtribesmen, according as they also by the Jews, ¹⁵ who kill the Lord Jesus as well as the prophets, and banish us, and are not pleasing to God, and are contrary to all men, ¹⁶ forbidding us to speak to the nations that they may be saved, to fill up their sins always. Yet the indignation outstrips to them to a consummation."

²¹ Yet be testing all, retaining the ideal."

¹⁵ On these things meditate. In these be, that your progress may be apparent to all."

⁸ Now, by the method by which Jannes and Jambres withstand Moses, thus these also are withstanding the truth, men of a depraved mind, disqualified as to the faith."

Let him show his works by an ideal behavior in meekness of wisdom. ¹⁴ Now if you are having bitter jealousy and faction in your heart, are you not vaunting against and falsifying the truth? ¹⁵ This is not the wisdom coming down from above, but terrestrial, soulish, demoniacal. " ¹⁶ For wherever jealousy and faction are, there is turbulence also, and every bad practice." ¹⁷ Now the wisdom from above is first, indeed, pure, thereupon peaceable, lenient, compliant, bulging with mercy and good fruits, undiscriminating, unfeigned."

¹ Yet there came to be false prophets also among the people, as among you also there will be false teachers who will be smuggling in destructive sects, even disowning the Owner Who buys them, bringing on themselves swift destruction."

⁵ and spares not the ancient world, but guards Noah, an eighth, a herald of righteousness, bringing a deluge on the world of the irreverent;"

¹⁰ Now the day of the Lord will be arriving as a thief, in which the heavens shall be passing by with a booming noise, yet the elements shall be dissolved by combustion, and the earth and the works in it shall be found." ¹¹ At these all, then, dissolving, to what manner of men must you belong in holy behavior and devoutness, ¹² hoping for and hurrying the presence of God's day, because of which the heavens, being on fire, will be dissolved, and the elements decompose by combustion!" ¹³ Yet we, according to His promises, are hoping for new heavens and a new earth, in which righteousness is dwelling."

¹⁶ They shall not be hungering longer, nor yet shall they be thirsting any longer; no, neither should the sun be falling on them, nor any heat, ¹⁷ seeing that the throne-centered Lambkin shall be shepherding them, and shall be guiding them to living springs of water, and every tear shall God be brushing away from their eyes."

¹ And I perceived a new heaven and a new earth, for the former heaven and the former earth pass away, and the sea is no more."

⁵ And He Who is sitting on the throne said, "Lo! New am I making all!And He is saying, "Write, for these sayings are faithful and true."
