⁸ And saying is he, "My Lord Yahweh, whereby am I to know that I am to enjoy its tenancy?

² And saying is Abraham to his servant, the oldest of his household, the ruler over all that is his, "Pray place your hand under my thigh, ³ and adjure you will I by Yahweh, the Elohim of the heavens and the Elohim of the earth, that you will not take a wife for my son Isaac from the daughters of the Canaanite near whom I am dwelling, ⁴ for to my land whence I came, and to my kindred should you go, and take a wife for my son, for Isaac, thence.

¹³ Behold! I am stationed at this spring of water, and the daughters of the mortals of the city will fare forth to bail water. ¹⁴ And comes it that the maiden to whom I will say, `Pray stretch out your jar and give me a drink,' says to me, `Drink. And moreover, your camels also will I give to drink till they should finish drinking', that her You do find correct for Your servant, for Isaac, and by it will I know that You do a kindness to my lord Abraham.

¹⁷ And he said unto Him, `If, I pray You, I have found grace in Your eyes, then You have done for me a sign that You are speaking with me. <sup>18</sup> Move not, I pray You, from this, till my coming in unto You, and I have brought out my present, and put it before You;' and he said, `I--I do abide till your return.. ¹⁹ And Gideon has gone in, and prepares a kid of the goats, and of an ephah of flour unleavened things; the flesh he has put in a basket, and the broth he has put in a pot, and he brings out unto Him, unto the place of the oak, and brings [it] nigh. ²⁰ And the messenger of Elohim said unto him, `Take the flesh and the unleavened things, and place on this rock--and the broth pour out;' and he does so. <sup>21</sup> And the messenger of Yahweh puts forth the end of the staff which [is] in His hand, and comes against the flesh, and against the unleavened things, and the fire goes up out of the rock and consumes the flesh and the unleavened things--and the messenger of Yahweh has gone from his eyes. <sup>22</sup> And Gideon sees that He [is] a messenger of Yahweh, and Gideon said, `Alas, Lord Yahweh! because that I have seen a messenger of Yahweh face to face!. ²³ And Yahweh said to him, `Peace to you; fear not; you do not die.. ²⁴ And Gideon builds there an altar to Yahweh, and calls it Yahweh-Shalom, unto this day it [is] yet in Ophrah of the Abi-Ezrites.

³⁶ And Gideon said unto Elohim, `If You are Saviour of Israel by my hand, as You have spoken, <sup>37</sup> lo, I am placing the fleece of wool in the threshing-floor:if dew is on the fleece alone, and on all the earth drought--then I have known that You do save Israel by my hand, as You have spoken;. <sup>38</sup> and it is so, and he rises early on the morrow, and presses the fleece, and wrings dew out of the fleece--the fulness of the bowl, of water. <sup>39</sup> And Gideon said unto Elohim, `Let not Your anger burn against me, and I speak only this time; let me try, I pray You, only this time with the fleece--let there be, I pray You, drought on the fleece alone, and on all the earth let there be dew.. ⁴⁰ And Elohim does so on that night, and there is drought on the fleece alone, and on all the earth there has been dew.

⁹ if thus they say unto us, `Stand still till we have come unto you,' then we have stood in our place, and do not go up unto them;" <sup>10</sup> and if thus they say, `Come up against us,' then we have gone up, for Yahweh has given them into our hand, and this to us [is] the sign.

⁸ And Hezekiah said unto Isaiah, `What [is] the sign that Yahweh does give healing to me, that I have gone up on the third day to the house of Yahweh?.

¹⁷ Make a sign of good to be with me, That those hating me may see and be ashamed, Because You, O Yahweh, have helped me and comforted me."

¹¹ Ask for yourself a sign from Yahweh, your Elohim; deepen the asking, or elevate it toward that above."

¹⁸ And Zechariah said to the messenger, "By what shall I know this? For I am aged, and my wife is advanced in her days."

³⁴ Yet Miriam said to the messenger, "How shall this be, since I know not a man?
