¹ And saying is the Elohim to Jacob, "Rise, go up to the place at Beth-El and dwell there, and make there an altar to El Who appeared to you when you ran away from the face of Esau, your brother. ² And saying is Jacob to his household and to all who are with him, "Take away the foreign elohim which are in your midst, and clean yourselves, and change your garments. ³ And rise will we and go up to Beth-El, and make will I there an altar to the El Who answered me in the day of my distress, and came to stand by me and saved me in the way which I went. ⁴ And giving are they to Jacob all the foreign elohim which are in their hand, and the pendants which are in their ears. And burying them is Jacob under the terebinth which is at Shechem. ⁵ And journeying is Israel out of Shechem. And coming is the dismay of the Elohim on the cities which surround them, and they do not pursue after the sons of Israel. ⁶ And coming is Jacob toward Luz, which is in the land of Canaan (it is Beth-El), he and all the people who are with him. ⁷ And building is he there an altar, and calling is he the name of the place Beth-El, for there the Elohim was revealed to him when he ran away from the face of Esau, his brother. ⁸ And dying is Deborah, Rebecca's wet-nurse, and entombed is she below Beth-El, under the oak. And calling is Jacob the name of it Alun-Bakuth. ⁹ And appearing is the Elohim to Jacob again in Luz, when he comes from Padan, Syria, and the Elohim is blessing him. ¹⁰ And saying to him is the Elohim, "Your name is Jacob. No longer is your name to be called Jacob, but rather Israel is coming to be your name.And calling is He his name Israel. ¹¹ And saying to him is the Elohim, "I am the El-Who-Suffices. Be fruitful and increase. A nation and an assembly of nations shall come from you, and kings from your loins shall fare forth. ¹² And the land which I gave to Abraham and to Isaac, to you am I giving it. Yours it is; and to your seed after you am I giving the land. ¹³ And ascending is the Elohim from him in the place in which He spoke with him. ¹⁴ And setting up is Jacob a monument in the place in which He spoke with him, a monument of stone. And libating is he on it a libation and pouring on it oil. ¹⁵ And calling is Jacob the name of the place where the Elohim spoke with him, Beth-El. ¹⁶ And journeying is Jacob from Beth-El, and it comes to be still some distance over land to come to Ephrath. And bearing is Rachel, and hard is she having it in her bearing. ¹⁷ And coming is it, as she has it hard in her bearing, then saying to her is the midwife, "You must not fear, for this, moreover, is a son for you!" ¹⁸ And coming is it, when forth fares her soul (for she died), that she is calling his name Ben-oni. Yet his father calls his name Benjamin. ¹⁹ And dying is Rachel, and is being entombed on the way to Ephrath. (It is now Bethlehem.. ²⁰ And setting up is Jacob a monument over her tomb. It is the monument, the tomb of Rachel, till today. ²¹ And journeying is Israel, and stretching out his tent is he beyond the tower Edar. ²² And coming is it, when Israel tabernacles in that land, that going is Reuben and lying with Bilhah, his father's concubine. And hearing of it is Israel, and evil appears it in his eyes. ²³ And coming are the sons of Jacob to be twelve: The sons of Leah, the firstborn of Jacob, Reuben, and Simeon and Levi and Judah and Issachar and Zebulon;" ²⁴ and the sons of Rachel, Joseph and Benjamin;" ²⁵ and the sons of Bilhah, Rachel's maid, Dan, and Naphtali;" ²⁶ and the sons of Zilpah, Leah's maid, Gad, and Ashur. These are the sons of Jacob, who are born to him in Padan, Syria. ²⁷ And coming is Jacob to Isaac, his father, to Mamre, the town of Arba (It is now Hebron), in the land of Canaan, where Abraham and Isaac sojourned. ²⁸ And coming are the days of Isaac to be a hundred and eighty years. ²⁹ And expiring is Isaac, and he died, and is gathered to his people, old and satisfied with days. And entombing him are Esau and Jacob, his sons.

⁸ And shifting is he thence toward the mountain on the east of Beth-El, and there is stretching out his tent, with Beth-El on the seaward side, and Ai on the east, and building is he there an altar to Yahweh. And calling is he on the name of Yahweh.

³ And going is he, in his journeyings from the south-rim, as far as Beth-El, as far as the place where his tent came to be at the start, between Beth-El and Ai, ⁴ to the place of the altar, which he made there at the first. And there calling is Abram on the name of Yahweh.

⁸ And saying to her is the messenger of Yahweh, "Hagar, maid of Sarai, whence come you and whither are you going?And saying is she, "From the face of Sarai, my mistress, am I running away.

¹⁴ And calling is Abraham the name of that place Yahweh-jireh, which is being said today, "In the mount of Yahweh it is being seen.

⁴¹ And a grudge is Esau holding against Jacob on account of the blessing with which his father blesses him. And saying is Esau in his heart, "Approaching are the days of mourning for my father, when I will kill Jacob, my brother. ⁴² And told to Rebecca are the words of Esau, her elder son. And sending is she, and calling for Jacob, her smaller son, and saying is she to him, "Behold! Esau, your brother, is consoling himself as to you, intending to kill you. ⁴³ And now, my son, hearken to my voice, and rise, run away by yourself to Syria, to Laban, my brother, to Charan. ⁴⁴ And dwell with him several days, till back is turning your brother's fury, ⁴⁵ till back turns your brother's anger from you, and forgotten has he what you did to him, and I send and take you thence. Why shall I be bereaved, moreover, of you two in one day?

¹⁰ And forth is Jacob faring from Beer-sheba, and going toward Charan. ¹¹ And coming is he upon a place and is lodging there, for the sun has set. And taking is he one of the stones of the place, and is placing it for his pillow, and lying down is he in that place. ¹² And dreaming is he, and behold! A stairway set up earthward, with its head touching the heavens. And behold! Messengers of the Elohim are ascending and descending on it. ¹³ And behold! Yahweh is stationed on it. And saying is He, "I am Yahweh, the Elohim of Abraham, your forefather, and the Elohim of Isaac. Do not fear. The land on which you are lying, to you will I give it, and to your seed. ¹⁴ And become shall your seed as the soil of the land. And breach forth will you seaward and eastward and northward and toward the south-rim. And blessed, in you, are all the families of the ground, and in your seed. ¹⁵ And behold! I am with you, and keep you in every way which you shall go, and will restore you to this ground, for not forsake you will I, till I should do all which I have spoken to you. ¹⁶ And waking is Jacob from his sleep and saying, "Surely, forsooth, Yahweh is in this place, and I knew it not. ¹⁷ And fearing is he saying, "What a fearful place is this! But is not this rather the house of the Elohim, and this the gateway of the heavens? ¹⁸ And early is Jacob rising in the morning, and taking is he the stone which he had placed there for his pillow, and is placing it for a monument, and pouring oil on its top. ¹⁹ And calling is Jacob the name of that place Beth-El. Howbeit, Luz was the name of the city at first. ²⁰ And vowing is Jacob a vow, saying, "Should it be coming that Yahweh Elohim stands by me, and keeps me in this way which I am going, and gives to me bread to eat and a garment to put on, ²¹ and I return in peace to my father's household, then Yahweh becomes my Elohim, ²² and this stone, which I place for a monument, shall become the house of Elohim for me. And of all that You are giving to me, tithe, yea, tithe it will I for You.

³ And saying is Yahweh to Jacob, "Return to the land of your forefathers and to your kindred, and come will I to be with you.

¹³ I am the El of Beth-El, where you anointed the monument and where you vowed a vow to Me. And now, rise, fare forth from this land, and return to the land of your kindred, and I will come to be with you..

⁷ And building is he there an altar, and calling is he the name of the place Beth-El, for there the Elohim was revealed to him when he ran away from the face of Esau, his brother.

¹⁵ When Pharaoh heard of this matter, he sought to kill Moses. So Moses ran away from the face of Pharaoh and dwelt in the land of Midian, where he sat by the well.

³⁶ For Yahweh shall adjudicate His people and show Himself merciful over His servants when He sees that the power of their hand has departed and has become nil for both the restrained and the ones set free.

¹⁵ He shall call on Me, and I shall answer him; I am with him in distress; I shall liberate him and glorify him."

⁴ When you vow a vow to Elohim, do not delay to pay it, For there is no delight in those who are stupid; That which you vow, pay." ⁵ It is better that you should not vow Than that you should vow and not pay. ⁶ Do not allow your mouth to cause your flesh to sin, And do not protest before the temple messenger that it was an error. Why should the One, Elohim, be wrathful at your voice And bring harm to the work of your hands?

⁴ And he is controlling the Messenger, and is prevailing; he laments and is supplicating to Him. In Bethel He is finding him, and there He is speaking with him."

¹⁵ Behold on the mountains, the feet of a tidings-bearer announcing peace! Celebrate, Judah, your celebrations! Pay your vows! For the decadent one shall not continue further to pass among you; he shall be altogether cut off."

¹⁹ For I know him, that, responding, he will instruct his sons and his household after him, and keep will they the way of Yahweh to do justice and judgment, that Yahweh may bring on Abraham all that He speaks concerning him.

¹⁹ And Laban goes to shear his flock. And stealing is Rachel the household elohim which are her father's.

³⁴ Yet Rachel took the household elohim and placed them in the saddle basket of the camel, and she is sitting on them. And feeling is Laban all the tent, yet did not find them.

² And seeing her is Shechem, son of Hamor, the Hivite, the prince of the land. And taking her is he and lying with her and humiliating her.

²⁴ And hearkening to Hamor and to Shechem, his son, are all faring forth from the gateway of their city. And circumcised is the flesh of their foreskin of every male, all who are faring forth from the gateway of his city. ²⁵ And coming is it on the third day, when they come to be in pain, taking are two sons of Jacob, Simeon, and Levi, Dinah's brothers, each man his sword, and coming are they to the trusting city, and killing are they every male.

²² And coming is it, when Israel tabernacles in that land, that going is Reuben and lying with Bilhah, his father's concubine. And hearing of it is Israel, and evil appears it in his eyes.

¹⁰ Then Yahweh said to Moses: Go to the people, and you will hallow them today and tomorrow; let them rinse their garment.

¹⁴ So Moses descended from the mountain to the people; he hallowed the people, and they rinsed their garments.

³ You shall not come to have other elohim in preference to Me. ⁴ You shall not make for yourself a carving nor any representation of that in the heavens above or that on the earth beneath, or that in the waters beneath the earth.

¹³ You shall beware in all that I say to you. And the name of other elohim you shall not mention; nor let it be heard coming out of your mouth.

⁵ Anyone who touches his bedding shall rinse his garments and bathe in water and be unclean until the evening.

¹⁶ Yet if he should not rinse his garments and not bathe his flesh then he will bear his depravity.

²⁴ You will rinse your garments on the seventh day, and you will be clean. And thereafter you may come into the camp.

⁷ You shall not come to have other elohim in preference to Me.

¹⁴ You shall not go after other elohim of the elohim of the peoples who are around you

²⁵ You shall burn the carvings of their elohim with fire. You shall not covet the silver and gold on them or take it for yourselves, lest you be trapped by it, for it is an abhorrence to Yahweh your Elohim.

²⁸ and the malediction if you should not hearken to the instructions of Yahweh your Elohim, and you withdraw from the way that I am enjoining on you today, by going after other elohim whom you have not known.

¹⁶ They made Him jealous with alien gods, with abhorrences they provoked Him to vexation.

⁷ so as not to go in among these nations, these who are left with you; and of the name of their elohims you do not make mention, nor do you swear, nor do you serve them, nor do you bow yourselves to them;"

² And Joshua said unto all the people, `Thus said Yahweh, Elohim of Israel, Beyond the River have your fathers dwelt of old--Terah father of Abraham and father of Nachor--and they serve other elohims;"

¹⁵ and if wrong in your eyes to serve Yahweh--choose for you to-day whom you do serve; --whether the elohims whom your fathers served, which [are] beyond the River, or the elohims of the Amorite in whose land you are dwelling; and I and my house--we serve Yahweh..

²⁰ When you forsake Yahweh, and have served elohims of a stranger, then He has turned back and done evil to you, and consumed you, after that He has done good to you..

²³ and, now, turn aside the elohims of the stranger which [are] in your midst, and incline your heart unto Yahweh, Elohim of Israel..

¹⁶ And they turn aside the elohims of the stranger out of their midst, and serve Yahweh, and His soul is grieved with the misery of Israel.

¹⁵ So Naomi said to Ruth, Behold, your sister-in-law has turned back to her people and to her elohim. Turn back after your sister-in-law.

³ And Samuel speaks unto all the house of Israel, saying, `If with all your heart you are turning back unto Yahweh--turn aside the elohims of the stranger from your midst, and Ashtaroth; and prepare your heart unto Yahweh, and serve Him only, and He does deliver you out of the hand of the Philistines..

²³ `And who [is] as Your people, as Israel--one nation in the earth, whom Elohim has gone to redeem to Him for a people, and to make for Him a name--and to do for you the greatness--even fearful things for Your land, at the presence of Your people, whom You have redeemed to You out of Egypt--[among the] nations and their elohims?

¹⁰ and Elisha sends unto him a messenger, saying, `Go, and you have washed seven times in Jordan, and your flesh does turn back to you--and be you clean.

¹² Are not Abana and Pharpar, rivers of Damascus, better than all the waters of Israel? do I not wash in them and I have been clean?' and he turns and goes on in fury. ¹³ And his servants come nigh, and speak unto him, and say, `My father, a great thing had the prophet spoken unto you--do you not do [it]? and surely, when he has said unto you, Wash, and be clean..

²⁹ and they are making each nation its elohims, and place [them] in the houses of the high places that the Samaritans have made, each nation in their cities where they are dwelling.

²⁶ For all elohims of the peoples [are] nought, And Yahweh the heavens has made.

⁵ And it came to be when the feast days were concluded, that Job would send and have them hallowed. He would rise early in the morning and offer up ascent offerings in number as them all. For Job said, Perhaps my sons have sinned and have scorned Elohim in their heart. Thus Job was doing for all these days.

² Rinse me abundantly from my depravity, And from my sin cleanse me."

⁷ Expiate me with the hyssop, and I shall be clean; Rinse me, and I shall be whiter than snow."

² I will contemplate the flawless way. --When shall You come to me?-- I shall walk in the integrity of my heart within my house. ³ I shall not set a worthless matter in front of my eyes; I hate the doing of those who swerve; It shall not cling to me. ⁴ A perverse heart, it shall withdraw from me; Evil I shall not know." ⁵ The one slandering his associate in secret, I shall efface him. The haughty of eyes and inflated of heart, I shall not endure him." ⁶ My eyes are with the faithful of the land, to dwell with me; He who is going in a flawless way, he shall minister for me." ⁷ One doing deceit shall not dwell within my house; One speaking falsehoods shall not be established in front of my eyes.

¹ Guard your feet when you go to the house of Elohim; To go near to hear is better than that the stupid should offer sacrifice, For they know nothing but to do evil."

¹⁶ Wash yourselves! Purge yourselves! Take away the evil of your actions from in front of My eyes!

¹¹ Withdraw! Withdraw! Forth from there! The unclean you must not touch! Forth from her midst! Be pure, you bearers of the vessels of Yahweh!"

⁷ For this I am not propitious to you, Your sons have forsaken Me, And are satisfied by that which is not elohim, I satisfy them, and they commit adultery, And at the house of a harlot They gather themselves together."

²⁷ Your adulteries, and your neighings, The wickedness of your whoredom, on heights in a field, I have seen your abominations. Woe to you, O Jerusalem, You are not cleansed, after when [is it] again?

²⁰ Does man make for himself elohims, And they--no elohims?

³¹ Cast from off you all your transgressions, By which you have transgressed, And make to you a new heart, and a new spirit, And why do you die, O house of Israel?

⁷ And I say unto them, Let each cast away the detestable things of his eyes, And with the idols of Egypt be not defiled, I [am] Yahweh your Elohim."

²⁵ And I have sprinkled over you clean water, And you have been clean; From all your uncleannesses, and from all your idols, I do cleanse you."

⁴ They drink the turbid wine and laud the elohim of gold, silver, copper, iron, wood, and stone."

¹⁰ Jesus is saying to him, "He who is bathed has no need, except to wash his feet, but is wholly clean. And you are clean, but not all." ¹¹ For He was aware who is giving Him up. Therefore He said that "Not all of you are clean."

²⁶ and you are beholding and hearing that, not only of Ephesus, but of almost the entire province of Asia, this Paul by his persuading causes a considerable throng to stand aloof, saying that they are not gods which are coming into being by means of hands."

⁷ according as they also lust. Nor yet be becoming idolaters, according as some of them, even as it is written, "Seated are the people to eat and drink, and they rise to sport."

¹⁵ Now what agreement has Christ with Belial? Or what part a believer with an unbeliever? ¹⁶ Now what concurrence has a temple of God with idols? For you are the temple of the living God, according as God said, that I will be making My home and will be walking in them, and I will be their God, and they shall be My people." ¹⁷ Wherefore, Come out of their midst and be severed, the Lord is saying. And touch not the unclean, and I will admit you,

¹ Having, then, these promises, beloved, we should be cleansing ourselves from every pollution of flesh and spirit, completing holiness in the fear of God."

⁸ But then, indeed, having no perception of God, you were slaves of those who, by nature, are not gods."

²² we may be approaching with a true heart, in the assurance of faith, with hearts sprinkled from a wicked conscience, and a body bathed in clean water."

⁸ Draw near to God, and He will be drawing near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, double-souled!"

¹ Putting off, then, all malice and all guile and hypocrisies and envies and all vilifications, ² as recently born babes, long for the unadulterated milk of the word that by it you may be growing into salvation,

²³ yet others be saving, snatching them out of the fire, yet to others be merciful with fear, hating even the tunic spotted by the flesh."

¹² And dreaming is he, and behold! A stairway set up earthward, with its head touching the heavens. And behold! Messengers of the Elohim are ascending and descending on it. ¹³ And behold! Yahweh is stationed on it. And saying is He, "I am Yahweh, the Elohim of Abraham, your forefather, and the Elohim of Isaac. Do not fear. The land on which you are lying, to you will I give it, and to your seed.

¹⁵ And behold! I am with you, and keep you in every way which you shall go, and will restore you to this ground, for not forsake you will I, till I should do all which I have spoken to you.

⁴² Unless the Elohim of my father, the Elohim of Abraham, and the Awe of Isaac had come to be with me, then now you would have sent me away empty-handed. The humiliation and the weariness of my palms the Elohim sees, and correcting you was He yesternight.

⁷ And fearing is Jacob exceedingly, and it is distressing to him. And dividing is he the people who are with him, and the flock and the herd and the camels, into two camps.

²⁴ And left is Jacob alone. And wrestling is a Man with him till the ascending of the dawn.

¹⁵ And call upon Me in the day of distress; I shall liberate you, and you shall glorify Me."

¹³ I shall come to Your House with ascent offerings. I shall pay my vows to You, ¹⁴ Concerning which my lips opened wide, And my mouth spoke in my distress."

¹ {Davidic{ Bless Yahweh, O my soul, And all within me, bless His holy Name!" ² Bless Yahweh, O my soul, And do not forget any of His well-dealings, ³ Who is pardoning all your depravity, Who is healing all your ailments, ⁴ Who is redeeming your life from ruin, Who is crowning you with benignity and compassion, ⁵ Who is satisfying your future with good, So your youth is renewed like the vulture's."

⁶ And they cried out to Yahweh in their distress. From their constraints, He rescued them,

⁸ Let them acclaim Yahweh for His benignity And His marvelous works to the sons of humanity.

¹ I love Him because Yahweh has heard My voice, my supplications;" ² For He has stretched out His ear to me, And I shall call on Him throughout all my days."

¹⁶ Oh Yahweh, seeing that I am Your servant, I am Your servant, son of Your maidservant, You have opened up my bonds;" ¹⁷ I shall sacrifice to You a sacrifice of acclamation And call on the Name of Yahweh. ¹⁸ I shall pay my vows to Yahweh Straight in front of all His people,

¹⁹ Open the gates of righteousness to me; I shall enter through them and acclaim Yah. ²⁰ This is the gate belonging to Yahweh; The righteous, they shall enter through it." ²¹ I am acclaiming You, for You have answered me, And You became mine for salvation." ²² The stone which the builders rejected, It came to be for the head of the corner."

⁶ In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He Himself shall straighten your paths."

¹⁹ For holy people in Zion shall dwell, and in Jerusalem you shall not lament, yea not lament. Gracious, yea gracious will Yahweh be to you at the sound of your outcry, as He hears He will answer you."

² In case you are passing through the waters, I am with you. And through the streams, they shall not overflow you. In case you are going through fire, you shall not be scorched, and the blaze shall not consume among you."

² Then Aaron said to them: Tear off the pendants of gold which are in the ears of your wives, your sons and your daughters, and bring them to me. ³ So all the people tore off the pendants of gold which were in their ears and brought them to Aaron. ⁴ He took it from their hands and formed it with a stylus and made of it a molten calf. And they said: These are your elohim, Israel, who brought you up from the land of Egypt.

²⁰ Then he took the calf which they had made, burned it with fire and ground it until it was pulverized; he winnowed it upon the surface of the water and made the sons of Israel drink it.

⁵ But rather, thus shall you do to them:you shall tear down their altars, break their monuments, hack down their Asherah poles, and you shall burn their carvings with fire.

²⁵ And Joshua makes a covenant with the people on that day, and lays on it a statute and an ordinance, in Shechem. ²⁶ And Joshua writes these words in the Book of the Law of Elohim, and takes a great stone, and raises it up there under the oak which [is] in the sanctuary of Yahweh.

²⁴ And Gideon said unto them, `Let me ask of you a petition, and give you to me each the ring of his prey, for they have rings of gold, for they [are] Ishmaelites.. <sup>25</sup> And they say, `We certainly give;' and they spread out the garment, and cast thither each the ring of his prey;" ²⁶ and the weight of the rings of gold which he asked is a thousand and seven hundred [shekels] of gold, apart from the round ornaments, and the drops, and the purple garments, which [are] on the kings of Midian, and apart from the chains which [are] on the necks of their camels, ²⁷ and Gideon makes it into an ephod, and sets it up in his city, in Ophrah, and all Israel go a-whoring after it there, and it is to Gideon and to his house for a snare.

⁶ And all the masters of Shechem are gathered together, and all the house of Millo, and come and cause Abimelech to reign for king at the oak of the camp which [is] in Shechem;"

²⁰ In that day humanity shall fling its forbidden idols of silver, and its forbidden idols of gold, which they make for it to worship, to the mole rats, and to the bats,

²² And unclean shall you make the overlaying of your silver carvings, and the vestment of your golden molten image. You shall toss them away as what comes from a languishing woman, and as filth shall you reject it."

¹³ And I visit on her the days of the Baals, in which she was fuming incense to them and ornamenting herself with her pendant and her eardrop, and she is going after her lovers, and she forgot Me, (averring is Yahweh)."

³⁰ And saying is Jacob to Simeon and to Levi, "You trouble me to make me stink among all the dwellers of the land, among the Canaanite and among the Perizzite. And I am death-doomed, outnumbered when gathered are they against me and smite me, and exterminated shall I be, I and my household.

¹⁵ Then the sheiks of Edom are flustered; the arbiters of Moab, quivering took hold of them. All the dwellers of Canaan are dissolved. ¹⁶ Dread and awe are falling on them; by the greatness of Your arm they are still as a stone, until Your people are passing by, Yahweh, until this people whom You have acquired are passing by.

²⁷ I shall send the dread of Me before you, I will discomfit all the people against whom you shall come, and I will make all your enemies turn the nape of their necks to you.

²⁴ For I shall evict nations from your presence and widen your boundary. No man shall covet your land when you go up to appear before Yahweh your Elohim three times in the year.

²⁵ No man shall station himself in your presence. The awe of you and the fear of you shall Yahweh your Elohim put over the face of the entire land on which you shall tread, just as He has spoken to you.

⁹ and she said unto the men, `I have known that Yahweh has given to you the land, and that your terror has fallen upon us, and that all the inhabitants of the land have melted at your presence. <sup>10</sup> `For we have heard how Yahweh dried up the waters of the Red Sea at your presence, in your going out of Egypt, and that which you have done to the two kings of the Amorite who [are] beyond the Jordan; to Sihon and to Og whom you devoted. ¹¹ And we hear, and melt does our heart, and there has not stood any more spirit in [any] man, from your presence, for Yahweh your Elohim, He [is] Elohim in the heavens above, and on the earth beneath.

¹ And it comes to pass when all the kings of the Amorite which [are] beyond the Jordan, towards the sea, and all the kings of the Canaanite which [are] by the sea, hear how that Yahweh has dried up the waters of the Jordan at the presence of the sons of Israel till their passing over, that their heart is melted, and there has not been in them any more spirit because of the presence of the sons of Israel.

⁷ and he takes a couple of oxen, and cuts them in pieces, and sends through all the border of Israel, by the hand of the messengers, saying, `He who is not coming out after Saul and after Samuel--thus it is done to his oxen;' and the fear of Yahweh falls on the people, and they come out as one man.

¹⁵ and there is a trembling in the camp, in the field, and among all the people, the station and the destroyers have trembled--even they, and the earth shakes, and it becomes a trembling of Elohim.

¹⁴ and smite all the cities round about Gerar, for a fear of Yahweh has been upon them, and they spoil all the cities, for abundant spoil has been in them;"

¹⁰ And here is a fear of Yahweh on all kingdoms of the lands that [are] round about Judah, and they have not fought with Jehoshaphat;"

⁵ There they were afraid with awe. For Elohim is with the generation of the righteous one.

¹⁹ And calling is Jacob the name of that place Beth-El. Howbeit, Luz was the name of the city at first.

²² and this stone, which I place for a monument, shall become the house of Elohim for me. And of all that You are giving to me, tithe, yea, tithe it will I for You.

³ And saying is Jacob to Joseph, "The El-Who-Suffices appeared to me in Luz, in the land of Canaan, and blessing me is He,

²² And the house of Joseph go up--even they--to Beth-El, and Yahweh [is] with them;" ²³ and the house of Joseph cause [men] to spy about Beth-El (and the name of the city formerly is Luz), ²⁴ and the watchers see a man coming out from the city, and say to him, `Show us, we pray you, the entrance of the city, and we have done with you kindness.. ²⁵ And he shows them the entrance of the city, and they smite the city by the mouth of the sword, and the man and all his family they have sent away;" ²⁶ and the man goes to the land of the Hittites, and builds a city, and calls its name Luz--it [is] its name unto this day.

¹³ And behold! Yahweh is stationed on it. And saying is He, "I am Yahweh, the Elohim of Abraham, your forefather, and the Elohim of Isaac. Do not fear. The land on which you are lying, to you will I give it, and to your seed.

¹ And saying is the Elohim to Jacob, "Rise, go up to the place at Beth-El and dwell there, and make there an altar to El Who appeared to you when you ran away from the face of Esau, your brother.

³ And rise will we and go up to Beth-El, and make will I there an altar to the El Who answered me in the day of my distress, and came to stand by me and saved me in the way which I went.

¹⁵ So Moses built an altar and called its name Yahweh-nissi

²⁴ And Gideon builds there an altar to Yahweh, and calls it Yahweh-Shalom, unto this day it [is] yet in Ophrah of the Abi-Ezrites.

⁴ When you vow a vow to Elohim, do not delay to pay it, For there is no delight in those who are stupid; That which you vow, pay." ⁵ It is better that you should not vow Than that you should vow and not pay.

³⁵ Round about [is] eighteen thousand, and the renown of the city [is] from the day Yahweh [is] there.'"

⁵⁹ And sending are they Rebecca, their sister, and her wet-nurse, and Abraham's servant and his mortals.

¹ And a messenger of Yahweh goes up from Gilgal unto Bochim,

⁵ and they call the name of that place Bochim, and sacrifice there to Yahweh.

¹³ and they take their bones, and bury [them] under the tamarisk in Jabesh, and fast seven days.

⁷ And appearing is Yahweh to Abram and is saying to him, "To your seed am I giving this land.And building is Abram there an altar to Yahweh, Who appeared to him.

¹ And coming is Abram to be ninety nine years of age. And appearing is Yahweh to Abram and is saying to him, "I am the El-Who-Suffices. Walk before Me and become flawless.

¹ And appearing to him is Yahweh Elohim among the oaks of Mamre. And sitting is he at the opening of the tent at noon, as the day is warm.

² And appearing to him is Yahweh and saying, "You must not go down to Egypt. Tabernacle in the land of which I apprize you.

¹¹ And saying to me is a messenger of the Elohim in a dream. `Jacob!' And saying am I,`Behold me!. ¹² And saying is He, `Lift your eyes, pray, and see that all the he-goats and the rams going up on the small cattle are striped, speckled, and dappled, for I see all that Laban is doing to you. ¹³ I am the El of Beth-El, where you anointed the monument and where you vowed a vow to Me. And now, rise, fare forth from this land, and return to the land of your kindred, and I will come to be with you..

¹ And Jacob goes his way. And seeing in a vision, he sees the camp of the Elohim encamped. And coming upon him are messengers of the Elohim.

²⁴ And left is Jacob alone. And wrestling is a Man with him till the ascending of the dawn. ²⁵ And seeing is he that he does not prevail against Him. Yet touching is He the palm of his thighbone. And strained is the palm of Jacob's thighbone in his wrestling with Him. ²⁶ And saying is He to him, "Send Me away, for the dawn ascends.And saying is he, "Not letting You go am I save You bless me. ²⁷ And saying is He to him, "What is your name?And saying is he, "Jacob. ²⁸ And saying is He to him, "Not Jacob shall your name be called longer, but rather Israel is your name. For upright are you with the Elohim and with mortals, and are prevailing. ²⁹ And asking is Jacob and saying, "Tell me, pray, your name.And saying is He, "Why is this that you are asking for My name?And blessing him is He there. ³⁰ And calling is Jacob the name of the place Peniel, "for I see the Elohim face to face, and rescued is my soul.

² And speaking is the Elohim to Israel in appearances of the night, and saying, "Jacob! Jacob!"And saying is he, "Behold me!" ³ And saying is He, "I am the El, the Elohim of your forefather. You must not fear to go down to Egypt, for a great nation will I constitute you there.

³ And saying is Jacob to Joseph, "The El-Who-Suffices appeared to me in Luz, in the land of Canaan, and blessing me is He, ⁴ and saying to me, `Behold Me making you fruitful. And I increase you, and give you to be an assembly of peoples. And I give this land to you and to your seed after you for a freehold eonian..

³ From afar Yahweh has appeared to me, With love eonian I have loved you, Therefore I have drawn you [with] kindness."

² Now he averred, "Men, brethren, and fathers, hear! The God of glory was seen by our father Abraham, being in Mesopotamia, ere he dwelt in Charan,

⁵ And no further shall your name be called Abram. Yet your name becomes Abraham, for the forefather of a throng of nations have I made you.

¹⁵ And saying is the Elohim to Abraham, "Sarai, your wife--you shall not call her name Sarai, for Sarah is her name.

²⁷ And saying is He to him, "What is your name?And saying is he, "Jacob. ²⁸ And saying is He to him, "Not Jacob shall your name be called longer, but rather Israel is your name. For upright are you with the Elohim and with mortals, and are prevailing.

³¹ and Elijah takes twelve stones, according to the number of the tribes of the sons of Jacob, unto whom the word of Yahweh was, saying, `Israel is your name;.

³⁴ Unto this day they are doing according to the former customs--they are not fearing Yahweh, and are not doing according to their statutes, and according to their ordinances, and according to the law, and according to the command, that Yahweh commanded the sons of Jacob whose name He made Israel,

¹ And blessing is the Elohim Noah and his sons. And saying is He to them, "Be fruitful and increase and fill the earth and subdue it.

² And make you will I into a great nation, and bless you will I and make your name great, and become must you a blessing.

¹⁶ And I make your seed as the soil of the land. Could a man count the soil of the land, moreover, then your seed shall be counted.

⁵ And forth is he bringing him outside and saying, "Look, pray, toward the heavens and number the stars, if you can number them.And saying is He to him, "Thus shall your seed become.

⁵ And no further shall your name be called Abram. Yet your name becomes Abraham, for the forefather of a throng of nations have I made you. ⁶ And fruitful I cause you to be exceedingly exceedingly. And I make of you nations, and kings from you shall fare forth. ⁷ And I set up My covenant between Me and you, and your seed after you, for their generations, for a covenant eonian, to become your Elohim and your seed's after you.

¹⁶ And I bless her, and, moreover, I give you a son of her. And bless him will I and he comes to be for nations, and kings of peoples shall come from him.

¹⁴ Is it a matter too marvelous for Yahweh Elohim? At the appointed time will I return to you according to the season of life, and Sarah has a son.

¹⁸ when Abraham shall become, yea become a nation, great and staunch, and blessed in him are all the nations of the earth?

¹⁷ that, blessing, yea, blessing you am I, and increasing, yea, increasing your seed am I as the stars of the heavens and as the sand which is on the sea shore. And your seed shall tenant the gateway of its enemies,

³ And El-Who-Suffices will bless you and make you fruitful and increase you, and you shall become an assembly of peoples. ⁴ And give to you will he the blessing of Abraham, my father, to you and to your seed with you, for you to tenant the land of your sojournings, given by the Elohim to Abraham.

¹⁴ And become shall your seed as the soil of the land. And breach forth will you seaward and eastward and northward and toward the south-rim. And blessed, in you, are all the families of the ground, and in your seed.

¹² And you said, `Good, yea, good will I do to you, and I make your seed as the sand of the sea, which is not being numbered for multitude..

¹⁴ And the El-Who-Suffices give you compassion before the man, so that he lets your other brother and Benjamin go! And I, as I am bereaved, am I bereaved!"

³ And saying is He, "I am the El, the Elohim of your forefather. You must not fear to go down to Egypt, for a great nation will I constitute you there.

⁷ And the sons of Israel were fruitful and were swarming and numerous and very, very staunch. So the land was filling up with them.

³ and I appeared to Abraham, to Isaac and to Jacob as the El-Who-Suffices; as to My name Yahweh, I was not fully realized by them.

¹ Yahweh spoke to Moses in the wilderness of Sinai, in the tent of appointment, on day one of the second month, in the second year of their going forth from the land of Egypt, saying. ² Obtain the sum of the whole congregation of the sons of Israel:by their families, by their fathers' house with the number of names, every male by their skulls, ³ from twenty years old and upward, everyone going forth with the militia host in Israel. You shall muster them by their militia hosts, you and Aaron. ⁴ And with you shall come to be a man for each stock; each the head of his fathers' house shall he be. ⁵ These are the names of the men who shall stand with you:for Reuben, Elizur son of Shedeur;" ⁶ for Simeon, Shelumiel son of Zurishaddai;" ⁷ for Judah, Nahshon son of Amminadab;" ⁸ for Issachar, Nathanael son of Zuar;" ⁹ for Zebulun, Eliab son of Helon;" ¹⁰ for the sons of Joseph:for Ephraim, Elishama son of Ammihud; for Manasseh, Gamaliel son of Pedahzur;" ¹¹ for Benjamin, Abidan son of Gideoni;" ¹² for Dan, Ahiezer son of Ammishaddai;" ¹³ for Asher, Pagiel son of Ocran;" ¹⁴ for Gad, Eliasaph son of Reuel;" ¹⁵ for Naphtali, Ahida son of Enan. ¹⁶ These are the called of the congregation, princes of the stocks of their fathers; they are heads of thousands of Israel. ¹⁷ So Moses and Aaron took these men who were specified by their names. ¹⁸ And on day one of the second month they assembled the whole congregation, who registered themselves be genealogies:by their families, by their fathers' house with the number of names from twenty years old and upward, by their skulls. ¹⁹ Just as Yahweh had instructed Moses, so he mustered them in the wilderness of Sinai. ²⁰ And they came to be:For the sons of Reuben, firstborn of Israel, according to their genealogical records by their families, by their fathers' house with the number of names, by their skulls, every male from twenty years old and upward, everyone going forth with the militia host, ²¹ their mustered ones for the stock of Reuben were forty-six thousand five hundred. ²² For the sons of Simeon, according to their genealogical records by their families, by their fathers' house, their mustered ones with the number of names, by their skulls, every male from twenty years old and upward, everyone going forth with the militia host, ²³ their mustered ones for the stock of Simeon were fifty-nine thousand three hundred. ²⁴ For the sons of Gad, according to their genealogical records by their families, by their fathers' house with the number of names, from twenty years old and upward, everyone going forth with the militia host, ²⁵ their mustered ones for the stock of Gad were forty-five thousand six hundred fifty. ²⁶ For the sons of Judah, according to their genealogical records by their families, by their fathers' house with the number of names from twenty years old and upward, everyone going forth with the militia host,

¹ And there is a certain man of Ramathaim-Zophim, of the hill-country of Ephraim, and his name [is] Elkanah, son of Jeroham, son of Elihu, son of Tohu, son of Zuph, and Ephrathite, ² and he has two wives, the name of the one [is] Hannah, and the name of the second Peninnah, and Peninnah has children, and Hannah has no children. ³ And that man has gone up out of his city from time to time, to bow himself, and to sacrifice, before Yahweh of Hosts, in Shiloh, and there [are] two sons of Eli, Hophni and Phinehas, priests to Yahweh. ⁴ And the day comes, and Elkanah sacrifices, and he has given to Peninnah his wife, and to all her sons and her daughters, portions, ⁵ and to Hannah he gives a certain portion--double, for he has loved Hannah, and Yahweh has shut her womb;" ⁶ and her adversity has also provoked her greatly, so as to make her tremble, for Yahweh has shut up her womb. ⁷ And so he does year by year, from the time of her going up into the house of Yahweh, so it provokes her, and she weeps, and does not eat. ⁸ And Elkanah her husband said to her, `Hannah, why weep you? and why do you not eat? and why is your heart afflicted? am I not better to you than ten sons?. <sup>9</sup> And Hannah rises after eating in Shiloh, and after drinking, and Eli the priest is sitting on the throne by the side-post of the temple of Yahweh. <sup>10</sup> And she is bitter in soul, and prays unto Yahweh, and weeps greatly, <sup>11</sup> and vows a vow, and said, `Yahweh of Hosts, if You do certainly look on the affliction of Your handmaid, and have remembered me, and do not forget Your handmaid, and have given to Your handmaid seed of men--then I have given him to Yahweh all days of his life, and a razor does not go up upon his head.. ¹² And it has been, when she multiplied praying before Yahweh, that Eli is watching her mouth, ¹³ and Hannah, she is speaking to her heart, only her lips are moving, and her voice is not heard, and Eli reckons her to be drunken. ¹⁴ And Eli said unto her, `Until when are you drunken? turn aside your wine from you.. <sup>15</sup> And Hannah answers and said, `No, my lord, A woman sharply pained in spirit I [am], and wine and strong drink I have not drunk, and I pour out my soul before Yahweh;" ¹⁶ put not your handmaid before a daughter of worthlessness, for from the abundance of my meditation, and of my provocation, I have spoken hitherto.. ¹⁷ And Eli answers and said, `Go in peace, and the Elohim of Israel does give your petition which you have asked of Him.. <sup>18</sup> And she said, `Let your handmaid find grace in your eyes;' and the woman goes on her way, and eats, and her countenance has not been [sad] for it any more. ¹⁹ And they rise early in the morning, and bow themselves before Yahweh, and turn back, and come in unto their house in Ramah, and Elkanah knows Hannah his wife, and Yahweh remembers her;" ²⁰ and it comes to pass, at the revolution of the days, that Hannah conceives, and bears a son, and calls his name Samuel, `for, from Yahweh I have asked him.. <sup>21</sup> And the man Elkanah goes up, and all his house, to sacrifice to Yahweh the sacrifice of the days, and his vow. <sup>22</sup> And Hannah has not gone up, for she said to her husband, `Till the youth is weaned--then I have brought him in, and he has appeared before the face of Yahweh, and dwelt there--unto the eon.. ²³ And Elkanah her husband said to her, `Do that which is good in your eyes; abide till your weaning him; only, Yahweh establish His word;' and the woman abides and suckles her son till she has weaned him, <sup>24</sup> and she causes him to go up with her when she has weaned him, with three bullocks, and one ephah of flour, and a bottle of wine, and she brings him into the house of Yahweh at Shiloh, and the youth [is but] a youth. <sup>25</sup> And they slaughter the bullock, and bring in the youth unto Eli, <sup>26</sup> and she said, `O, my lord, your soul lives! my lord, I [am] the woman who stood with you in this [place], to pray unto Yahweh;" ²⁷ for this youth I prayed, and Yahweh does give to me my petition which I asked of Him;" ²⁸ and also I have caused him to be asked for Yahweh, all the days that he has lived--he is asked for Yahweh;' and he bows himself there before Yahweh.

¹⁸ and I will be a Father to you, and you shall be sons and daughters to Me, says the Lord Almighty."

¹⁴ And Yahweh Elohim says to Abram after Lot was parted from him, "Lift your eyes, pray, and see. From the place where you now are, northward and toward the south-rim and eastward and seaward, ¹⁵ for all the land which you are seeing, to you am I giving it, and to your seed, till the eon. ¹⁶ And I make your seed as the soil of the land. Could a man count the soil of the land, moreover, then your seed shall be counted. ¹⁷ Rise, walk in the land, its length and its width, for to you am I giving it, and to your seed, for the eon.

¹⁸ In that day Yahweh contracted a covenant with Abram, saying, "To your seed I give this land, from the stream of Egypt as far as the great stream, the stream Euphrates,

³ Sojourn in this land, and I come to be with you and will bless you. For to you and to your seed will I give all these lands, and carry out will I the oath which I swore to Abraham, your father. ⁴ And increase will I your seed as the stars of the heavens, and give will I to your seed all these lands. And blessed, in your seed, are all the nations of the earth,

⁴ and saying to me, `Behold Me making you fruitful. And I increase you, and give you to be an assembly of peoples. And I give this land to you and to your seed after you for a freehold eonian..

⁸ Hence I have descended to rescue them from the hand of Egypt and to bring them up from that land to a land good and wide, to a land gushing with milk and honey, to the place of the Canaanite, the Hittite, the Amorite, the Perizzite, the Girgashite, the Hivite and the Jebusite.

¹ (And Jericho shuts itself up, and is shut up, because of the presence of the sons of Israel--none going out, and none coming in;. ² And Yahweh said unto Joshua, `See, I have given into your hand Jericho and its king--mighty ones of valor, <sup>3</sup> and you have compassed the city--all the men of battle--going round the city once; thus you do six days; <sup>4</sup> and seven priests do bear seven trumpets of the jubilee before the ark, and on the seventh day you compass the city seven times, and the priests blow with the trumpets, <sup>5</sup> and it has been, in the prolongation of the horn of the jubilee, in your hearing the voice of the trumpet, all the people shout--a great shout, and the wall of the city has fallen under it, and the people have gone up, each over-against him.. <sup>6</sup> And Joshua son of Nun calls unto the priests, and said unto them, `Bear you the ark of the covenant, and seven priests do bear seven trumpets of the jubilee before the ark of Yahweh;. ⁷ and He said unto the people, `Pass over, and compass the city, and he who is armed does pass over before the ark of Yahweh.. <sup>8</sup> And it comes to pass, when Joshua speaks unto the people, that the seven priests bearing seven trumpets of the jubilee before Yahweh have passed over and blown with the trumpets, and the ark of the covenant of Yahweh is going after them;" <sup>9</sup> and he who is armed is going before the priests blowing the trumpets, and he who is gathering up is going after the ark, going on and blowing with the trumpets;" <sup>10</sup> and the people has Joshua commanded, saying, `You do not shout, nor cause your voice to be heard, nor does there go out from your mouth a word, till the day of my saying unto you, Shout you--then you have shouted.. ¹¹ And the ark of Yahweh does compass the city, going round once, and they come into the camp, and lodge in the camp. ¹² And Joshua rises early in the morning, and the priests bear the ark of Yahweh, ¹³ and seven priests bearing seven trumpets of the jubilee before the ark of Yahweh are walking, going on, and they have blown with the trumpets--and he who is armed is going before them, and he who is gathering up is going behind the ark of Yahweh--going on and blowing with the trumpets. ¹⁴ And they compass the city on the second day once, and turn back to the camp; thus they have done six days. ¹⁵ And it comes to pass, on the seventh day, that they rise early, at the ascending of the dawn, and compass the city, according to this manner, seven times; (only, on that day they have compassed the city seven times);" ¹⁶ and it comes to pass, at the seventh time, the priests have blown with the trumpets, and Joshua said unto the people, `Shout you, for Yahweh has given to you the city;" ¹⁷ and the city has been devoted, it and all that [is] in it, to Yahweh; only Rahab the harlot does live, she and all who [are] with her in the house, for she hid the messengers whom we sent;" ¹⁸ and surely you have kept from the devoted thing, lest you devote [yourselves], and have taken from the devoted thing, and have made the camp of Israel become a devoted thing, and have troubled it;" ¹⁹ and all the silver and gold, and vessels of brass and iron, holy they [are] to Yahweh; into the treasury of Yahweh they come.. ²⁰ And the people shout, and blow with the trumpets, and it comes to pass when the people hear the voice of the trumpet, that the people shout--a great shout, and the wall falls under it, and the people goes up into the city, each over-against him, and they capture the city;" ²¹ and they devote all that [is] in the city, from man even unto woman, from young even unto aged, even unto ox, and sheep, and ass, by the mouth of the sword.

¹ On that day there was read in the book of Moses, in the ears of the people, and it has been found written in it that an Ammonite and Moabite does not come into the assembly of Elohim--unto the eon, ² because they have not come before the sons of Israel with bread and with water, and hire against them Balaam to revile them, and our Elohim turns the reviling into a blessing. ³ And it comes to pass, at their hearing the law, that they separate all the mixed people from Israel. ⁴ And before this Eliashib the priest, appointed over chambers of the house of our Elohim, [is] a relation of Tobiah, ⁵ and he makes for him a great chamber, and there they were formerly putting the present, the frankincense, and the vessels, and the tithe of the corn, the new wine, and the oil--the commanded thing of the Levites, and the singers, and the gatekeepers--and the heave-offering of the priests. ⁶ And during all this I was not in Jerusalem, for in the thirty and second year of Artaxerxes king of Babylon did I come unto the king, and at the end of days I have asked of the king, ⁷ and I come in to Jerusalem, and understand concerning the evil that Eliashib has done for Tobiah, to make to him a chamber in the courts of the house of Elohim, ⁸ and it is very displeasing to me, and I cast all the vessels of the house of Tobiah without, out of the chamber, ⁹ and I speak, and they cleanse the chambers, and I bring back thither the vessels of the house of Elohim with the present and the frankincense. ¹⁰ And I know that the portions of the Levites have not been given, and they flee each to his field--the Levites and the singers, doing the work. ¹¹ And I strive with the prefects, and say, `Wherefore has the house of Elohim been forsaken?' and I gather them, and set them on their station;" <sup>12</sup> and all Judah have brought in the tithe of the corn, and of the new wine, and of the oil, to the treasuries. <sup>13</sup> And I appoint treasurers over the treasuries, Shelemiah the priest, and Zadok the scribe, and Pedaiah of the Levites; and by their hand [is] Hanan son of Zaccur, son of Mattaniah, for stedfast they have been reckoned, and on them [it is] to give a portion to their brethren. <sup>14</sup> Be mindful of me, O my Elohim, for this, and do not blot out my kind acts that I have done, for the house of my Elohim, and for its charges. <sup>15</sup> In those days I have seen in Judah those treading wine-vats on sabbath, and bringing in the sheaves, and lading on the asses, and also, wine, grapes, and figs, and every burden, yea, they are bringing in to Jerusalem on the sabbath-day, and I testify in the day of their selling provision. <sup>16</sup> And the Tyrians have dwelt in it, bringing in fish, and every ware, and selling on sabbath to the sons of Judah and in Jerusalem. <sup>17</sup> And I strive with the freemen of Judah, and say to them, `What [is] this evil thing that you are doing, and polluting the sabbath-day? ¹⁸ Thus did not your fathers do? and our Elohim brings in on us all this evil, and on this city, and you are adding fierceness on Israel, to pollute the sabbath.. ¹⁹ And it comes to pass, when the gates of Jerusalem have been dark before the sabbath, that I speak, and the doors are shut, and I say, that they do not open them till after the sabbath; and of my servants I have stationed at the gates; there does not come in a burden on the sabbath-day. ²⁰ And they lodge--the merchants and sellers of all ware--at the outside of Jerusalem, once or twice, ²¹ and I testify against them, and say unto them, `Wherefore are you lodging over-against the wall? if you repeat [it], a hand I put forth upon you;' from that time they have not come in on the sabbath. <sup>22</sup> And I say to the Levites, that they be cleansed, and, coming in, keeping the gates, to sanctify the sabbath-day. Also, this, remember for me, O my Elohim, and have pity on me, according to the abundance of Your kindness. <sup>23</sup> Also, in those days, I have seen the Jews [who] have settled women of Ashdod, of Ammon, of Moab. <sup>24</sup> And of their sons, half are speaking Ashdoditish--and are not knowing to speak Jewish--and according to the language of people and people. <sup>25</sup> And I strive with them, and declare them vile, and smite certain of them, and pluck off their hair, and cause them to swear by Elohim, `You do not give your daughters to their sons, nor do you take of their daughters to your sons, and to yourselves. ²⁶ `By these did not Solomon king of Israel sin? and among the many nations there was no king like him, and beloved by his Elohim he was, and Elohim makes him king over all Israel--even him did the strange women cause to sin. ²⁷ And to you do we hearken to do all this great evil, to trespass against our Elohim, to settle strange women?. ²⁸ And [one] of the sons of Joiada son of Eliashib the high priest, [is] son-in-law to Sanballat the Horonite, and I cause him to flee from off me. ²⁹ Be mindful of them, O my Elohim, for the redeemed of the priesthood, and the covenant of the priesthood, and of the Levites. ³⁰ And I have cleansed them from every stranger, and appoint charges to priests and to Levites, each in his work, ³¹ and for the wood-offering at appointed times, and for first-fruits. Be mindful of me, O my Elohim, for good.

⁵ And descending is Yahweh to see the city and the tower which the sons of humanity build.

²² And finishing is He speaking with him, and ascending is the Elohim from Abraham.

³³ And going is Yahweh, as He finishes speaking to Abraham. And Abraham returns to his place.

²¹ And the messenger of Yahweh puts forth the end of the staff which [is] in His hand, and comes against the flesh, and against the unleavened things, and the fire goes up out of the rock and consumes the flesh and the unleavened things--and the messenger of Yahweh has gone from his eyes.

²⁰ and it comes to pass, in the going up of the flame from off the altar toward the heavens, that the messenger of Yahweh goes up in the flame of the altar, and Manoah and his wife are looking on, and they fall on their faces to the earth,

³¹ Now their eyes were opened up, and they recognize Him. And He became unapparent to them."

¹⁸ And early is Jacob rising in the morning, and taking is he the stone which he had placed there for his pillow, and is placing it for a monument, and pouring oil on its top. ¹⁹ And calling is Jacob the name of that place Beth-El. Howbeit, Luz was the name of the city at first.

⁴⁵ And taking is Jacob a stone and is raising it for a monument.

²⁰ And setting up is Jacob a monument over her tomb. It is the monument, the tomb of Rachel, till today.

¹² And Samuel takes a stone, and sets [it] between Mizpeh and Shen, and calls its name Eben-Ezer, saying, `Hitherto has Yahweh helped us..

¹⁶ And to the woman He says, "Multiplying, yea, multiplying am I your grief and the groaning of your pregnancy. In grief shall you bear sons. "Yet by your husband is your restoration, and he shall rule over you.

¹⁹ And dying is Rachel, and is being entombed on the way to Ephrath. (It is now Bethlehem..

⁷ And I, at my coming from Padan, Syria, Rachel, your mother, died by me in the land of Canaan in the way, while still some distance overland to come to Ephrath. And I entombed her there on the way to Ephrath.(It is now Bethlehem..

² The name of the man was Elimelech, the name of his wife was Naomi, and the names of his two sons were Mahlon and Chilion. They were Ephrathites from Bethlehem in Judah. They came to the fields of Moab and stayed there.

¹⁹ And he said to him, `Go in peace.' And he goes from him a kibrath of land,

¹⁹ And Azubah dies, and Caleb takes to him Ephrath, and she bears to him Hur.

⁶ Behold, we heard of it in Ephrathah; We found it in the fields of Jaar."

² And you, Bethlehem Ephratah, inferior to be among the mentors of Judah, from you shall One fare forth for Me to become the Ruler in Israel; yet His farings forth are from aforetime, from days eonian."

¹ Now, at Jesus' being born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of Herod the king, lo! magi from the East came along into Jerusalem,

¹⁵ Yet she shall be saved through the child bearing, if ever they should be remaining in faith and love and holiness with sanity."

²⁴ And calling is she his name Joseph saying, "Adding is Yahweh to me another son.

¹⁹ And his daughter-in-law, wife of Phinehas, [is] pregnant, about to bear, and she hears the report of the taking of the ark of Elohim, that her father-in-law and her husband have died, and she bows, and bears, for her pains have turned upon her. ²⁰ And at the time of her death, when the women who are standing by her say, `Fear not, for a son you have borne,' she has not answered, nor set her heart [to it];" <sup>21</sup> and she calls the youth I-Chabod, saying, `Honor has removed from Israel,' because of the taking of the ark of Elohim, and because of her father-in-law and her husband.

¹ And seeing is Rachel that she does not bear for Jacob. And jealous is Rachel of her sister. And saying is she to Jacob, "Grant me sons! And, should there be none, I will die.

⁴ Yet Benjamin, Joseph's brother, Jacob does not send with his brothers, for, says he, "Lest meet will he with a mishap.

³⁸ And saying is he, "Not go down with you shall my son, for his brother is dead, and he alone remains. And meets him a mishap in the way in which you will go, then down will you bring my gray hairs with affliction to the unseen.

²⁷ And saying is your servant, our father, to us, `You know that two were borne for me by my wife. ²⁸ And forth is one faring from me. And saying am I, "Yea, as prey is he torn to pieces!"And not seen him have I hitherto. ²⁹ And take this one, moreover, from before my face, and a mishap befalls him on the way, down will you bring my gray hairs by evil to the unseen.. ³⁰ And now, as I come to your servant, our father, and the youth is not with us, when his soul is tied to his soul, ³¹ and it comes as he sees that no youth is with us, he will die, and down will your servants bring the gray hairs of your servant, our father, by affliction to the unseen.

⁷ They will take some of the blood and put it on the two jambs and on the lintel, on the houses in which they are eating it.

⁹ And Jabez is honored above his brethren, and his mother called his name Jabez, saying, `Because I have brought forth with grief..

¹⁰ For You shall not forsake my soul in the unseen; You shall not allow Your benign one to see corruption.

¹⁷ May Your hand rest on the man of Your right hand, On the son of humanity whom You have made resolute for Yourself."

¹² They are saying to their mothers, Where is grain and wine? While they droop like the wounded in the city squares, While their soul is poured out on their mothers' bosom."

²⁰ Yet God said to him, 'Imprudent one! In this night your soul are they demanding from you. Now, what you make ready, whose will it be?'"

⁴⁶ And shouting with a loud voice, Jesus said, "Father, into Thy hands am I committing My spirit.Now, saying this, He expires."

⁵⁹ And they pelted Stephen with stones, while he is invoking and saying, "Lord Jesus, receive my spirit!"

¹⁵ and Kattath, and Nahallal, and Shimron, and Idalah, and Beth-Lehem; twelve cities and their villages.

¹¹ All the people in the gate and the elders replied, We are witnesses! And the elders said, May Yahweh grant to the woman who is coming to your house to be like Rachel and like Leah, both of whom built up the house of Israel! Perform ably in Ephrathah, and proclaim a name in Bethlehem!"

² Hear, you mountains, the contention of Yahweh, and you perennial foundations of the earth. For a contention has Yahweh with His people, and with Israel will He plead."

⁶ 'And you, Bethlehem, land of Judah,
Are you in any respect least among the mentors of Judah?
For out of you shall come forth the Ruler
Who shall shepherd My people Israel.'"

⁹ And appearing is the Elohim to Jacob again in Luz, when he comes from Padan, Syria, and the Elohim is blessing him.

¹⁴ And setting up is Jacob a monument in the place in which He spoke with him, a monument of stone. And libating is he on it a libation and pouring on it oil.

² In your going to-day from me--then you have found two men by the grave of Rachel, in the border of Benjamin, at Zelzah, and they have said unto you, The asses have been found which you have gone to seek; and lo, your father has left the matter of the asses, and has sorrowed for you, saying, What do I do for my son?

¹⁷ and they take Absalom and cast him in the forest unto the great pit, and set up over him a very great heap of stones, and all Israel have fled--each to his tent. ¹⁸ And Absalom has taken, and sets up for himself in his life, the standing-pillar that [is] in the king's valley, for he said, `I have no son to cause my name to be remembered;' and he calls the standing-pillar by his own name, and it is called `The monument of Absalom' unto this day.

⁸ And you, tower of the drove, hump of the daughter of Zion, unto you shall it arrive, even the former rule shall come, the kingdom to the daughter of Jerusalem."

⁸ And shepherds were in the same district in the field fold, and maintaining watches at night over their flock."

³¹ And seeing is Yahweh that Leah is hated, and opening is He her womb. Yet Rachel is barren. ³² And pregnant is Leah and is bearing a son for Jacob. And calling is she his name Reuben for she says, "For see does Yahweh my humiliation and gives me a son, for now my husband will love me. ³³ And pregnant is Leah again, and is bearing a second son for Jacob. And saying is she, "For hearing is Yahweh that hated am I, and giving to me is He this one, moreover.And calling is she his name Simeon. ³⁴ And pregnant is she again and is bearing a son. And saying is she, "Now once more will my husband be obligated to me, for I bear for him three sons.Therefore calling is she his name Levi. ³⁵ And pregnant is she again, and is bearing a son. And saying is she, "Now once more will I acclaim Yahweh.Therefore calling is she his name Judah. And staying is she from bearing.

⁵ And pregnant is Rachel's maid, Bilhah, and is bearing for Jacob a son. ⁶ And saying is Rachel, "Adjudicated has the Elohim for me, and, moreover, He hears my voice, and is giving to me a son.Therefore she calls his name Dan. ⁷ And pregnant is she again, and bearing is Bilhah, Rachel's maid, a second son for Jacob. ⁸ And saying is Rachel, "With twistings of the Elohim am I twisted with my sister, and moreover, I prevail.And calling is she his name Naphtali. ⁹ And seeing is Leah that she stays from bearing. And taking is she Zilpah, her maid, and is giving her to Jacob for a wife. And coming is Jacob to her, ¹⁰ and Zilpah, Leah's maid, is pregnant and bearing for Jacob a son. ¹¹ And saying is Leah, "Coming is a raid!"And calling is she his name Gad. ¹² And pregnant is Zilpah, Leah's maid, and is bearing a second son for Jacob. ¹³ And saying is Leah "Happiness is mine, for the daughters call me happy.And calling is she his name Ashur. ¹⁴ And going is Reuben in the days of wheat harvest and finding mandrakes in the field, and is bringing them to his mother, Leah. And saying is Rachel to Leah, her sister, "Give to me, pray, of your son's mandrakes. ¹⁵ And saying is Leah to her, "No! Is it little of you to take my husband, then to take, moreover, my son's mandrakes?And saying is Rachel, "Not so! He shall lie with you this night, for your son's mandrakes. ¹⁶ And coming is Jacob from the field in the evening, and forth is faring Leah to meet him. And saying is she, "To me are you coming tonight, for I hired, yea, hired you with my son's mandrakes.And lying is he with her in that night. ¹⁷ And hearkening is the Elohim to Leah, and pregnant is she and is bearing for Jacob a fifth son. ¹⁸ And saying is Leah, "Giving is the Elohim my hire, for I give my maid to my husband.And calling is she his name Issachar. ¹⁹ And pregnant again is Leah, and is bearing a sixth son for Jacob. ²⁰ And saying is Leah, "Dowering me is the Elohim with a good dowry this time. My husband will prefer me, for I bear for him six sons.And calling is she his name Zebulon. ²¹ And afterwards she bears a daughter. And calling is she her name Dinah. ²² And remembering is the Elohim Rachel and hearkening to her is the Elohim and opening her womb. ²³ And pregnant is she and bearing for Jacob a son. And saying is Rachel, "The Elohim gathers up my reproach. ²⁴ And calling is she his name Joseph saying, "Adding is Yahweh to me another son.

¹⁸ And coming is it, when forth fares her soul (for she died), that she is calling his name Ben-oni. Yet his father calls his name Benjamin.

⁸ And these are the names of the sons of Israel coming to Egypt: Jacob and his sons: The firstborn of Jacob, Reuben. ⁹ And the sons of Reuben: Enoch and Phallu and Hezron and Carmi. ¹⁰ And the sons of Simeon: Jemuel and Jamin and Ohad and Jachin and Zohar and Shaul, son of a Canaanitess. ¹¹ And the sons of Levi: Gershon, Kohas and Merari. ¹² And the sons of Judah: Er and Onan and Shelah and Pharez and Zarah. Yet Er and Onan died in the land of Canaan. And there come to be sons of Pharez: Hezron and Hamul. ¹³ And the sons of Issachar: Tola and Phuvah and Jashub and Shimron. ¹⁴ And the sons of Zebulon: Sered and Elon and Jahleel. ¹⁵ These are the sons of Leah, which she bears for Jacob in Padan, Syria, and Dinah, his daughter. All the souls of his sons and his daughters are thirty-three. ¹⁶ And the sons of Gad: Ziphion and Haggi and Shuni and Ezbon, Eri and Arodi and Areli. ¹⁷ And the sons of Asher: Imnah and Ishuah and Ishui and Beriah; and Serah, their sister. And the sons of Beriah: Heber and Malchiel. ¹⁸ These are the sons of Zilpah, whom Laban gives to his daughter Leah, and she bears these for Jacob--sixteen souls. ¹⁹ The sons of Rachel, Jacob's wife: Joseph and Benjamin. ²⁰ And sons are born to Joseph in the land of Egypt, whom Asenath, daughter of Potiphera, priest of On, bears for him, Manasseh and Ephraim. And the sons are born to Manasseh, whom a Syrian concubine bears for him, Machir. And Machir begets Galaad. And the sons of Ephraim, Manasseh's brother: Soutalaam and Taam. And the son of Soutalaam: Edem. ²¹ And the sons of Benjamin: Belah and Becher and Ashbel. And sons were born to Belah: Gera and Naaman, Ehi and Rosh, Muppim and Huppim and to Gera is born Ard. ²² These are the sons of Rachel, who were born to Jacob. All the souls are eighteen. ²³ And the sons of Dan: Hushim. ²⁴ And the sons of Naphtali: Jahzeel and Guni and Jezer and Shillem. ²⁵ These are the sons of Bilhah, whom Laban gives to Rachel, his daughter. And she bears these for Jacob. All the souls are seven. ²⁶ All the souls coming with Jacob to Egypt, which fare forth from his thighs, aside from the wives of Jacob's sons--all the souls are sixty six. ²⁷ And the sons of Joseph who are born to him in Egypt are two souls. All the souls pertaining to the house of Jacob coming to Egypt are seventy-five.

¹ And calling is Jacob to his sons and saying, "Gather, and I will tell you what will meet you in the days hereafter. ² Convene and hear, sons of Jacob, and hearken to Israel, your father. ³ Reuben, my firstborn, you are my vigor, and the beginning of my virility, with a surplus for bearing and a surplus of strength. ⁴ Ebullient as water, you must not have a surplus! For up you went to the bed of your father. Then you violated my berth to which you went up. ⁵ Simeon and Levi are brothers. They concluded violence out of their covenants. ⁶ Into their deliberation you must not come, my soul! And in their assembly you must not contend, my glory. For in their anger they killed men, and in their acceptance they felled a chief. ⁷ Cursed is their anger, for it was strong. And their rage, for it was obstinate. Apportion them will I in Jacob, and scatter them in Israel. ⁸ Judah, you and your brothers will acclaim. Your hands shall be on the scruff of your enemies. Prostrate to you shall the sons of your father. ⁹ The whelp of a lion is Judah. From the prey, my son, bow will he, recline as a lion. And as a parent lion, who will make him rise? ¹⁰ Not withdraw shall the sceptre from Judah, nor a statue-maker's staff from between his feet, till it be that ease shall come to him. And to it shall the expectation of the people be. ¹¹ Bind to a vine will he his colt, and to a yellow muscat grape the foal of his she-ass, he rinses in wine his apparel, and in the blood of grapes his coverlet. ¹² Flushed will be his eyes from wine, and white, his teeth, from milk. ¹³ Zebulon at a port of the seas shall tabernacle, and at a port for ships with its flank unto Sidon. ¹⁴ Issachar covets pleasantness, recline will he between the hearthstones, an. ¹⁵ see a resting place that is good, and a land that is pleasant, yet stretch out will he his shoulder for a burden, and become will he a servant under a labor levy. ¹⁶ Dan shall adjudicate his people, as one of the tribes of Israel. ¹⁷ Become shall Dan a serpent on a way, a horned snake on a path, that bites the heels of a horse, and fall shall its rider backward. ¹⁸ For Your salvation I expect, Yahweh!" ¹⁹ Gad--a raiding party shall `raid' him, yet he shall raid their heels, ²⁰ Asher--stout shall be his bread, and he will provide royal luxuries. ²¹ Naphtali is a oak stretched out, the giver of products that are seemly. ²² A fruitful son is Joseph, a fruitful son, joy of my eye, my son, inferior, to me has returned, ²³ and bitter were they with him, and contended and begrudging him were the archers, ²⁴ yet broken in virility is their bow, and slack are the arms of their hands. From the hands of the Sturdy One of Jacob, thence is the Shepherd, the Stone of Israel, ²⁵ from the El of your father, and your Helper, and He Who-Suffices, and your Blesser, blessings of the heavens from above, blessings of the submerged chaos reclining beneath, blessings of the breasts and the womb, ²⁶ blessings of your father and your mother. Master are they over the blessings of my mountains, unto the yearning of the eonian hills, coming are they on the head of Joseph, and on the crown of the governor of his brothers. ²⁷ Benjamin is a wolf, tearing to pieces. In the morning he'll devour further, and in the evening he'll apportion the loot. ²⁸ All these are the twelve tribes of Israel. And this is what their father speaks to them, when he is blessing them. Each man according to his blessing he blesses them.

¹ These are the names of the sons of Israel coming to Egypt with Jacob; they came, each man with his household. ² Reuben, Simeon, Levi and Judah, ³ Issachar, Zebulun and Benjamin, ⁴ Dan and Naphtali, Gad and Asher. ⁵ All the souls having come forth from the thigh of Jacob had become seventy souls. As for Joseph, he was in Egypt.

¹⁴ These are the heads of their fathers' house: The sons of Reuben, the firstborn of Israel, are Hanoch and Pallu, Hezron and Carmi; these are the families of Reuben. ¹⁵ The sons of Simeon are Jemuel, Jamin, Ohad, Jachin, Zohar and Shaul, the son of the Canaanitess; these are the families of Simeon. ¹⁶ These are the names of the sons of Levi according to their genealogical annals: Gershon, Kohath and Merari. And the years of the life of Levi were a hundred thirty-seven years.

⁸ The nakedness of your father's wife you shall not expose. It is the nakedness of your father.

⁵ These are the names of the men who shall stand with you:for Reuben, Elizur son of Shedeur;" ⁶ for Simeon, Shelumiel son of Zurishaddai;" ⁷ for Judah, Nahshon son of Amminadab;" ⁸ for Issachar, Nathanael son of Zuar;" ⁹ for Zebulun, Eliab son of Helon;" ¹⁰ for the sons of Joseph:for Ephraim, Elishama son of Ammihud; for Manasseh, Gamaliel son of Pedahzur;" ¹¹ for Benjamin, Abidan son of Gideoni;" ¹² for Dan, Ahiezer son of Ammishaddai;" ¹³ for Asher, Pagiel son of Ocran;" ¹⁴ for Gad, Eliasaph son of Reuel;" ¹⁵ for Naphtali, Ahida son of Enan.

²⁰ And they came to be:For the sons of Reuben, firstborn of Israel, according to their genealogical records by their families, by their fathers' house with the number of names, by their skulls, every male from twenty years old and upward, everyone going forth with the militia host, ²¹ their mustered ones for the stock of Reuben were forty-six thousand five hundred. ²² For the sons of Simeon, according to their genealogical records by their families, by their fathers' house, their mustered ones with the number of names, by their skulls, every male from twenty years old and upward, everyone going forth with the militia host, ²³ their mustered ones for the stock of Simeon were fifty-nine thousand three hundred. ²⁴ For the sons of Gad, according to their genealogical records by their families, by their fathers' house with the number of names, from twenty years old and upward, everyone going forth with the militia host, ²⁵ their mustered ones for the stock of Gad were forty-five thousand six hundred fifty. ²⁶ For the sons of Judah, according to their genealogical records by their families, by their fathers' house with the number of names from twenty years old and upward, everyone going forth with the militia host, ²⁷ their mustered ones for the stock of Judah were seventy-four thousand six hundred. ²⁸ For the sons of Issachar, according to their genealogical records by their families, by their fathers' house with the number of names, from twenty years old and upward, everyone going forth with the militia host, ²⁹ their mustered ones for the stock of Issachar were fifty-four thousand four hundred. ³⁰ For the sons of Zebulun, according to their genealogical records by their families, by their fathers' house with the number of names, from twenty years old and upward, everyone going forth with the militia host, ³¹ their mustered ones for the stock of Zebulun were fifty-seven thousand four hundred. ³² For the sons of Joseph:for the sons of Ephraim, according to their genealogical records by their families, by their fathers' house with the number of names, from twenty years old and upward, everyone going forth with the militia host, ³³ their mustered ones for the stock of Ephraim were forty thousand five hundred. ³⁴ For the sons of Manasseh, according to their genealogical records by their families, by their fathers' house with the number of names, from twenty years old and upward, everyone going forth with the militia host, ³⁵ their mustered ones for the stock of Manasseh were thirty-two thousand two hundred. ³⁶ For the sons of Benjamin, according to their genealogical records by their families, by their fathers' house with the number of names from twenty years old and upward, everyone going forth with the militia host, ³⁷ their mustered ones for the stock of Benjamin were thirty-five thousand four hundred. ³⁸ For the sons of Dan, according to their genealogical records by their families, by their fathers' house with the number of names, from twenty years old and upward, everyone going forth with the militia host, ³⁹ their mustered ones for the stock of Dan were sixty-two thousand seven hundred. ⁴⁰ For the sons of Asher, according to their genealogical records by their families, by their fathers' house with the number of names, from twenty years old and upward, everyone going forth with the militia host, ⁴¹ their mustered ones for the stock of Asher were forty-one thousand five hundred. ⁴² For the sons of Naphtali, according to their genealogical records by their families, by their fathers' house with the number of names, from twenty years old and upward, everyone going forth with the militia host, ⁴³ their mustered ones for the stock of Naphtali were fifty-three thousand four hundred. ⁴⁴ These were the ones being mustered whom Moses, Aaron and the princes of Israel mustered, the twelve men, one each for his fathers' house. ⁴⁵ All the ones being mustered of the sons of Israel came to be by their fathers' house, from twenty years old and upward, everyone going forth with the militia host in Israel;" ⁴⁶ so all the ones being mustered came to be six hundred three thousand five hundred fifty.

³ Those encamping eastward, toward the sunrise, are under the standard of the camp of Judah, by their militia hosts. The prince for the sons of Judah is Nahshon son of Amminadab;" ⁴ his militia host and their mustered ones are seventy-four thousand six hundred. ⁵ Those encamping next to him are the stock of Issachar. The prince for the sons of Issachar is Nathanael son of Zuar; ⁶ his militia host and its mustered ones are fifty-four thousand four hundred. ⁷ The stock of Zebulun:The prince for the sons of Zebulun is Eliab son of Helon; ⁸ his militia host and its mustered ones are fifty-seven thousand four hundred. ⁹ All the ones being mustered of the camp of Judah are a hundred eighty-six thousand four hundred, by their militia hosts. As the first shall they journey. ¹⁰ The standard of the camp of Reuben is southward, by their militia hosts. The prince for the sons of Reuben is Elizur son of Shedeur;" ¹¹ his militia host and its mustered ones are forty-six thousand five hundred. ¹² Those encamping next to him are the stock of Simeon. The prince for the sons of Simeon is Shelumiel son of Zurishaddai; ¹³ his militia host and their mustered ones are fifty-nine thousand three hundred. ¹⁴ As for the stock of Gad:The prince for the sons of Gad is Eliasaph son of Reuel; ¹⁵ his militia host and their mustered ones are forty-five thousand six hundred fifty. ¹⁶ All the ones being mustered of the camp of Reuben are a hundred fifty-one thousand four hundred fifty, by their militia hosts. As second ones shall they journey. ¹⁷ Then the tent of appointment will journey with the camp of the Levites in the midst of the other camps. Just as they are encamping so shall they journey, each man on his own side under their standards. ¹⁸ The standard of the camp of Ephraim, by their militia hosts, is westward. The prince for the sons of Ephraim is Elishama son of Ammihud;" ¹⁹ his militia host and their mustered ones are forty thousand five hundred. ²⁰ Those encamping next to him are the stock of Manasseh. The prince for the sons of Manasseh is Gamaliel son of Pedahzur; ²¹ his militia host and their mustered ones are thirty-two thousand two hundred. ²² As for the stock of Benjamin:The prince for the sons of Benjamin is Abidan son of Gideoni; ²³ his militia host and their mustered ones are thirty-five thousand four hundred. ²⁴ All the ones being mustered of the camp of Ephraim are a hundred eight thousand one hundred, by their militia hosts. As third ones shall they journey. ²⁵ The standard of the camp of Dan is northward, by their militia hosts. The prince of the sons of Dan is Ahiezer son of Ammishaddai;" ²⁶ his militia host and their mustered ones are sixty-two thousand seven hundred. ²⁷ And those encamping next to him are the stock of Asher. The prince for the sons of Asher is Pagiel son of Ocran; ²⁸ his militia host and their mustered ones are forty-one thousand five hundred. ²⁹ As for the stock of Naphtali:The prince for the sons of Naphtali is Ahida son of Enan; ³⁰ his militia host and their mustered ones are fifty-three thousand four hundred. ³¹ All the ones being mustered of the camp of Dan are a hundred fifty seven thousand six hundred. As the last shall they journey under their standards. ³² These are the ones being mustered of the sons of Israel by their father's house. All the ones being mustered of the camps by their militia hosts are six hundred three thousand five hundred fifty. ³³ Yet the Levites did not present themselves to be mustered in the midst of the sons of Israel, just as Yahweh had instructed Moses.

This was the approach present of Ahira son of Enan. ⁸⁴ This was the dedication offering of the altar on the day it was anointed by the princes of Israel:twelve silver dishes, twelve silver sprinkling bowls, twelve gold spoons;" ⁸⁵ a single silver dish weighed a hundred thirty shekels, a single sprinkling bowl weighed seventy shekels. All the silver of the vessels was two thousand four hundred shekels by the shekel of the holy place. ⁸⁶ The twelve gold spoons, full of incense, weighed ten shekels each, ten a spoon, by the shekel of the holy place. All the gold of the spoons was a hundred twenty shekels. ⁸⁷ All the oxen for the ascent offering were twelve young bulls, twelve rams, twelve year-old he-lambs with their approach present, and twelve hairy ones of the goats for a sin offering. ⁸⁸ And all the oxen of the sacrifice of peace offerings were twenty-four young bulls, sixty rams, sixty he-goats, sixty year-old he-lambs. This was the dedication offering of the altar after it was anointed. ⁸⁹ Whenever Moses came into the tent of appointment to speak with Him then he would hear the voice of Yahweh speaking to him above the propitiatory shelter which was on the coffer of the testimony; it was from between the two cherubim that He spoke to him.

Their mustered ones were forty-three thousand seven hundred thirty. ⁸ The sons of Pallu were Eliab ⁹ and the sons of Eliab, Nemuel, Dathan and Abiram. The same Dathan and Abiram were the called of the congregation who strove against Moses and against Aaron in the congregation of Korah when they strove against Yahwe. ¹⁰ and the earth opened its mouth and swallowed them up with Korah in the death of that congregation when the fire devoured two hundred fifty men, and they became like a warning banner. ¹¹ Yet the sons of Korah did not die. ¹² The sons of Simeon by their families:through Nemuel the Nemuelite family; through Jamin the Jaminite family; through Jachin the Jachinite family; ¹³ through Zerah the Zerahite family; through Shaul the Shaulite family. ¹⁴ These were the Simeonite families, twenty-two thousand two hundred. ¹⁵ The sons of Gad by their families:through Zephon the Zephonite family; through Haggi the Haggite family; through Shuni the Shunite family; ¹⁶ through Ozni the Oznite family; through Eri the Erite family; ¹⁷ through Arod the Arodite family; through Areli the Arelite family. ¹⁸ These were the families of the sons of Gad by their mustered ones, forty thousand five hundred. ¹⁹ The sons of Judah were Er and Onan. ⁵⁷ These were the mustered ones of the Levites by their families:through Gershon the Gershonite family; through Kohath the Kohathite family; through Merari the Merarite family. ⁵⁸ These were the families of the sons of Levi:the Libnite family, the Hebronite family, the Mahlite family, the Mushite family and the Korathite family. Kohath begot Amram;" ⁵⁹ and the name of Amram's wife was Jochebed, a Levite daughter who was born to the Levite in Egypt. And she bore for Amram Aaron and Moses and Miriam, their sister. ⁶⁰ To Aaron was born Nadab and Abihu, Eleazar and Ithamar. ⁶¹ Yet Nadab and Abihu died when they offered alien fire before Yahweh. ⁶² Their mustered ones were twenty-three thousand, every male from a month old and upward, for they did not present themselves to be mustered for militia service in the midst of the sons of Israel, for no allotment was given to them in the midst of the sons of Israel.

¹⁴ For they have taken, the stock of the sons of the Reubenite by their fathers' house and the stock of the sons of the Gadite by their fathers' house and the half stock of Manasseh, they have taken their allotment. ¹⁵ The two stocks and the half stock have taken their allotment across the Jordan of Jericho, eastward toward sunrise. ¹⁶ Yahweh spoke to Moses, saying. ¹⁷ These are the names of the men who shall allot the land to you:Eleazar the priest and Joshua son of Nun, ¹⁸ and one prince, one prince from each stock, shall you take to allot the land. ¹⁹ And these are the names of the men:for the stock of Judah, Caleb son of Jephunneh;" ²⁰ for the stock of the sons of Simeon, Samuel son of Ammihud;" ²¹ for the stock of Benjamin, Elidad son of Chislon;" ²² for the stock of the sons of Dan, prince Bukki son of Jogli;" ²³ for the sons of Joseph:for the stock of the sons of Manasseh, prince Hanniel son of Ephod, ²⁴ for the stock of the sons of Ephraim, prince Kemuel son of Shiphtan;" ²⁵ for the stock of the sons of Zebulun, prince Elizaphan son of Parnach;" ²⁶ for the stock of the sons of Issachar, prince Paltiel son of Azzan;" ²⁷ for the stock of the sons of Asher, prince Ahihud son of Shelomi;" ²⁸ and for the stock of the sons of Naphtali, prince Pedahel son of Ammihud.

¹ This is the blessing with which Moses, the man of Elohim, blessed the sons of Israel before his death, ² when he said:Yahweh came from Sinai, and He arose from Seir for them. He shone from Mount Paran, and He arrived with some from myriads of the holy ones. At His right are warriors who are His. ³ Indeed, He is cherishing the kinsmen. All the holy ones are in Your hand. And they are huddled at Your feet. Each obtains something from Your word. ⁴ about the law Moses enjoined on us, the tenancy of the assembly of Jacob. ⁵ So He became king in Yeshurun when the heads of the people gathered themselves together with the tribes of Israel. ⁶ Let Reuben live, let him neither die nor let his adult males come to be outnumbered. ⁷ This is about Judah, and he said:Hear, Yahweh, the voice of Judah, and may You bring him to his people; with his hands he contended for himself, yet may You become a help against his foes. ⁸ About Levi he said:May your Thummim and your Urim be for your benign man whom you probed at Massah; you contended with him at the waters of Meribah, ⁹ the one saying of his father and of his mother:I do not see them, and he neither recognized his brothers, nor did he know his sons. For they observed Your sayings and preserved Your covenant. ¹⁰ They shall direct Your judgments for Jacob, and Your law for Israel. They shall bring incense to Your nostrils and a holocaust on Your altar. ¹¹ Bless, Yahweh, his estate, and the contriving of his hands may You approve. Transfix the waists of those rising up against him, and those hating him, that they may rise up no more. ¹² About Benjamin he said:Let the beloved of Yahweh tabernacle in trust by Him Who is providing a canopy over him all the day, as he tabernacles between His shoulders. ¹³ About Joseph he said:Blessed by Yahweh be his land with the finest of the heavens, the night mist, and with water from the abyss reclining beneath, ¹⁴ with the finest of the yield from the sun, and with the finest of the growth of the months, ¹⁵ with the top yield of the mountain ranges of aforetime, and with the finest of the hills eonian, ¹⁶ with the finest of the earth and its fullness, and the approval of the One tabernacling over Sinai. Let it come onto the head of Joseph and onto the crown of the one singled out from his brothers, ¹⁷ as the firstborn of his kine brings honor to him, and his horns are the horns of the wild bull. With them he shall gore the peoples altogether, to the limits of the earth. Those are the myriads of Ephraim, and those are the thousands of Manasseh. ¹⁸ About Zebulun he said:Rejoice, Zebulun, in your going forth, and, Issachar, in your tents. ¹⁹ They shall invite their kinsmen to the mountain, and there they shall sacrifice sacrifices of righteousness; for they suck out the accumulation of the seas and the secreted treasures buried in the sand. ²⁰ About Gad he said:Blessed be the One widening the space for Gad. As a parent lion he tabernacles and preys upon arm or scalp. ²¹ And he saw the first portion given to himself, for where the apportionment of the statute maker was, there gathered together the heads of the people; he will execute the justice of Yahweh, and His judgments, along with Israel. ²² About Dan he said:Dan is a lion's whelp, and he shall bound from Bashan. ²³ About Naphtali he said:Naphtali, be satisfied with your acceptable portion, full of Yahweh's blessing:He shall tenant toward the lake and south. ²⁴ About Asher he said:Most blessed of sons be Asher, and let him come to be approved by his brothers, and be dipping his foot in oil. ²⁵ Iron and copper be your door-bolts, and as your days so shall be your leisure. ²⁶ There is none like the El of Yeshurun:Riding the heavens as your Helper and in His augustness, the skies, ²⁷ the habitation of Elohim aforetime. And beneath are the arms eonian. He shall drive out the enemy from your presence and shall say:Exterminate him! ²⁸ So Israel shall tabernacle in trust; solitary is the spring of Jacob in a land of grain and grape juice. Indeed, his heavens shall trickle the night mist. ²⁹ Happy are you, Israel! Who is like you? A people saved by Yahweh, the Shield of your Helper, Who is also the Sword of your augustness! Your enemies shall dissimulate submission to you, yet you, you shall tread on their fane heights.

¹ And Joshua is old, entering into days, and Yahweh said unto him, `You have become aged, you have entered into days; as to the land, very much has been left to possess. <sup>2</sup> `This [is] the land that is left; all the circuits of the Philistines, and all Geshuri, ³ from Sihor which [is] on the front of Egypt, and unto the border of Ekron northward, to the Canaanite it is reckoned, five princes of the Philistines, the Gazathite, and the Ashdothite, the Eshkalonite, the Gittite, and the Ekronite, also the Avim. ⁴ `From the south, all the land of the Canaanite, and Mearah, which [is] to the Sidonians, unto Aphek, unto the border of the Amorite;" <sup>5</sup> and the land of the Giblite, and all Lebanon, at the sun-rising, from Baal-Gad under mount Hermon, unto the going in to Hamath. <sup>6</sup> all the inhabitants of the hill-country, from Lebanon unto Misrephoth-Maim, all the Sidonians:I--I dispossess them before the sons of Israel; only, cause it to fall to Israel for an inheritance, as I have commanded you. <sup>7</sup> `And now, apportion this land for an inheritance to the nine tribes, and the half of the tribe of Manasseh,' -. ⁸ with it the Reubenite, and the Gadite, have received their inheritance, which Moses has given to them beyond the Jordan eastward, as Moses servant of Yahweh has given to them;" ⁹ from Aroer, which [is] on the edge of the brook Arnon, and the city which [is] in the midst of the brook, and all the plain of Medeba unto Dihon, ¹⁰ and all the cities of Sihon king of the Amorite, who reigned in Heshbon, unto the border of the Bene-Ammon, ¹¹ and Gilead, and the border of the Geshurite, and of the Maachathite, and all mount Hermon, and all Bashan unto Salcah;" ¹² all the kingdom of Og in Bashan, who reigned in Ashtaroth and in Edrei; he was left of the remnant of the Rephaim, and Moses does smite them, and dispossess them;" ¹³ and the sons of Israel dispossessed not the Geshurite, and the Maachathite; and Geshur and Maachath dwell in the midst of Israel unto this day. ¹⁴ Only, to the tribe of Levi he has not given an inheritance; fire-offerings of Yahweh, Elohim of Israel, is its inheritance, as He has spoken to it. ¹⁵ And Moses gives to the tribe of the sons of Reuben, for their families;" ¹⁶ and the border is to them from Aroer, which [is] on the edge of the brook Arnon, and the city which [is] in the midst of the brook, and all the plain by Medeba, ¹⁷ Heshbon, and all its cities which [are] in the plain, Dibon, and Bamoth-Baal, and Beth-Baal-Meon, ¹⁸ and Jahazah, and Kedemoth, and Mephaath, ¹⁹ and Kirjathaim, and Sibmah, and Zareth-Shahar, in the mount of the valley, ²⁰ and Beth-Peor, and the springs of Pisgah, and Beth-Jeshimoth, ²¹ and all the cities of the plain, and all the kingdom of Sihon king of the Amorite, who reigned in Heshbon, whom Moses smote, with the princes of Midian, Evi, and Rekem, and Zur, and Hur, and Reba, princes of Sihon, inhabitants of the land.

²¹ And Ahithophel said unto Absalom, `Go in unto the concubines of your father, whom he left to keep the house, and all Israel has heard that you have been abhorred by your father, and the hands of all who [are] with you have been strong.. ²² And they spread out for Absalom the tent on the roof, and Absalom goes in unto the concubines of his father before the eyes of all Israel.

³ And David comes in unto his house at Jerusalem, and the king takes the ten women-concubines--whom he had left to keep the house, and puts them in a house of ward, and sustains them, and unto them he has not gone in, and they are shut up unto the day of their death, in widowhood living.

¹ These [are] sons of Israel:Reuben, Simeon, Levi, and Judah, Issachar, and Zebulun, ² Dan, Joseph, and Benjamin, Naphtali, Gad, and Asher.

¹ As to sons of Reuben, first-born of Israel--for he [is] the first-born, and on account of his profaning the couch of his father has his birthright been given to the sons of Joseph son of Israel, and [he is] not to be reckoned by genealogy for the birthright,

²³ And these [are] the numbers of the head, of the armed men of the host; they have come in unto David to Hebron to turn round the kingdom of Saul unto him, according to the mouth of Yahweh. ²⁴ The sons of Judah, bearing target and spear, [are] six thousand and eight hundred, armed ones of the host. ²⁵ Of the sons of Simeon, mighty ones of valor for the host, [are] seven thousand and a hundred. ²⁶ Of the sons of Levi [are] four thousand and six hundred; ²⁷ and Jehoiada [is] the leader of the Aaronite, and with him [are] three thousand and seven hundred, ²⁸ and Zadok, a young man, mighty of valor, and of the house of his father [are] twenty and two heads. ²⁹ And of the sons of Benjamin, brethren of Saul, [are] three thousand, and hitherto their greater part are keeping the charge of the house of Saul. ³⁰ And of the sons of Ephraim [are] twenty thousand and eight hundred, mighty of valor, men of name, according to the house of their fathers. ³¹ And of the half of the tribe of Manasseh [are] eighteen thousand, who have been defined by name, to come in to cause David to reign. ³² And of the sons of Issachar, having understanding for the times, to know what Israel should do; their heads [are] two hundred, and all their brethren [are] at their command. ³³ Of Zebulun, going forth to the host, arranging battle with all instruments of battle, [are] fifty thousand, and keeping rank without a double heart. ³⁴ And of Naphtali, a thousand heads, and with them, with target and spear, [are] thirty and seven thousand. ³⁵ And of the Danite, arranging battle, [are] twenty and eight thousand and six hundred. ³⁶ And of Asher, going forth to the host, to arrange battle, [are] forty thousand. ³⁷ And from beyond the Jordan, of the Reubenite, and of the Gadite, and of the half of the tribe of Manasseh, with all instruments of the host for battle, [are] a hundred and twenty thousand. ³⁸ All these [are] men of war, keeping rank--with a perfect heart they have come to Hebron, to cause David to reign over all Israel, and also all the rest of Israel [are] of one heart, to cause David to reign, ³⁹ and they are there, with David, three days, eating and drinking, for their brethren have prepared for them. ⁴⁰ And also those near unto them, unto Issachar, and Zebulun, and Naphtali, are bringing in bread on asses, and on camels, and on mules, and on oxen--food of fine flour, fig-cakes and grape-cakes, and wine, and oil, and oxen, and sheep, in abundance, for joy [is] in Israel.

¹⁶ And over the tribes of Israel:Of the Reubenite, a leader [is] Eliezer son of Zichri; of the Simeonite, Shephatiah son of Maachah;" ¹⁷ of the Levite, Hashabiah son of Kemuel; of the Aaronite, Zadok;" ¹⁸ of Judah, Elihu, of the brethren of David; of Issachar, Omri son of Michael;" ¹⁹ of Zebulun, Ishmaiah son of Obadiah; of Naphtali, Jerimoth son of Azriel;" ²⁰ of the sons of Ephraim, Hoshea son of Azaziah; of the half of the tribe of Manasseh, Joel son of Pedaiah;" ²¹ of the half of Manasseh in Gilead, Iddo son of Zechariah; of Benjamin, Jaasiel son of Abner; of Dan, Azareel son of Jeroham. ²² these [are] heads of the tribes of Israel.

¹ And these [are] the names of the tribes:From the north end unto the side of the way of Hethlon, at the coming in to Hamath, Hazar-Enan, the border of Damascus northward, unto the side of Hamath, and they have been his--side east and west, Dan one, ² and by the border of Dan, from the east side unto the west side, Asher one, ³ and by the border of Asher, from the east side even unto the west side, Naphtali one, ⁴ and by the border of Naphtali, from the east side unto the west side, Manasseh one, ⁵ and by the border of Manasseh, from the east side unto the west side, Ephraim one, ⁶ and by the border of Ephraim, from the east side even unto the west side, Reuben one, ⁷ and by the border of Reuben, from the east side unto the west side, Judah one, ⁸ and by the border of Judah, from the east side unto the west side is the heave-offering that you lift up, five and twenty thousand broad and long, as one of the parts, from the east side unto the west side:and the sanctuary has been in its midst." ⁹ The heave-offering that you lift up to Yahweh [is] five and twenty thousand long, and broad ten thousand." ¹⁰ And of these is the holy heave-offering for the priests, northward five and twenty thousand, and westward [in] breadth ten thousand, and eastward [in] breadth ten thousand, and southward [in] length five and twenty thousand:and the sanctuary of Yahweh has been in its midst." ¹¹ For the priests who are sanctified of the sons of Zadok, who have kept My charge, who erred not in the erring of the sons of Israel, as the Levites erred, ¹² even the heave-offering has been to them, out of the heave-offering of the land, most holy, by the border of the Levites." ¹³ `And [to] the Levites over-against the border of the priests [are] five and twenty thousand [in] length, and [in] breadth ten thousand, all the length [is] five and twenty thousand, and the breadth ten thousand." <sup>14</sup> And they do not sell of it, nor exchange, nor cause to pass away the first-fruit of the land:for [it is] holy to Yahweh." <sup>15</sup> And the five thousand that is left in the breadth, on the front of the five and twenty thousand, is common--for the city, for dwelling, and for suburb, and the city has been in its midst." <sup>16</sup> And these [are] its measures:the north side five hundred, and four thousand, and the south side five hundred, and four thousand, and on the east side five hundred, and four thousand, and the west side five hundred, and four thousand." <sup>17</sup> And the suburb to the city has been northward, fifty and two hundred, and southward, fifty and two hundred, and eastward, fifty and two hundred, and westward, fifty and two hundred." <sup>18</sup> `And the residue in length over-against the heave-offering of the holy [portion is] ten thousand eastward, and ten thousand westward, and it has been over-against the heave-offering of the holy [portion], and its increase has been for food to the servants of the city, ¹⁹ even [to] him who is serving the city, they serve it out of all the tribes of Israel." ²⁰ All the heave-offering [is] five and twenty thousand by five and twenty thousand, square do you lift up the heave-offering of the holy [portion] with the possession of the city." ²¹ `And the residue [is] for the prince, on this side and on that side of the heave-offering of the holy [portion], and of the possession of the city, on the front of the five and twenty thousand of the heave-offering unto the east border, and westward, on the front of the five and twenty thousand on the west border, over-against the portions of the prince; and the heave-offering of the holy [portion], and the sanctuary of the house, has been in its midst." <sup>22</sup> And from the possession of the Levites, from the possession of the city, in the midst of that which is to the prince, between the border of Judah and the border of Benjamin, there is to the prince." <sup>23</sup> `As to the rest of the tribes, from the east side unto the west side, Benjamin one, ²⁴ and by the border of Benjamin, from the east side unto the west side, Simeon one, ²⁵ and by the border of Simeon, from the east side unto the west side, Issachar one, ²⁶ and by the border of Issachar, from the east side unto the west side, Zebulun one, ²⁷ and by the border of Zebulun, from the east side unto the west side, Gad one, ²⁸ and by the border of Gad, at the south side southward, the border has been from Tamar [to] the waters of Meriboth-Kadesh, the stream by the great sea." ²⁹ This [is] the land that you separate by inheritance to the tribes of Israel, and these [are] their portions--an affirmation of the Lord Yahweh." ³⁰ `And these [are] the outgoings of the city on the north side, five hundred, and four thousand measures." ³¹ And the gates of the city [are] according to the names of the tribes of Israel; three gates northward:the gate of Reuben one, the gate of Judah one, the gate of Levi one." ³² And on the east side five hundred, and four thousand, and three gates:the gate of Joseph one, the gate of Benjamin one, the gate of Dan one." ³³ And the south side five hundred, and four thousand measures, and three gates:the gate of Simeon one, the gate of Issachar one, the gate of Zebulun one." ³⁴ The west side five hundred, and four thousand, their gates three:the gate of Gad one, the gate of Asher one, the gate of Naphtali one." ³⁵ Round about [is] eighteen thousand, and the renown of the city [is] from the day Yahweh [is] there.'"

⁸ And He gives him the covenant of circumcision. And thus he begets Isaac, and circumcised him on the eighth day, and Isaac Jacob, and Jacob the twelve patriarchs."

¹ Absolutely, it is heard that there is prostitution among you, and such prostitution (which is not even named among the nations), so that someone has his father's wife."

⁴ And I hear the number of those sealed: a hundred forty-four thousand. Sealed out of every tribe of the sons of Israel are: ⁵ out of the tribe of Judah twelve thousand are sealed; out of the tribe of Reuben twelve thousand; out of the tribe of Gad twelve thousand; ⁶ out of the tribe of Asher twelve thousand; out of the tribe of Naphtali twelve thousand; out of the tribe of Manasseh twelve thousand; ⁷ out of the tribe of Simeon twelve thousand; out of the tribe of Levi twelve thousand; out of the tribe of Issachar twelve thousand; ⁸ out of the tribe of Zebulon twelve thousand; out of the tribe of Joseph twelve thousand; out of the tribe of Benjamin twelve thousand are sealed.

¹⁴ And the wall of the city has twelve foundations, and on them the twelve names of the twelve apostles of the Lambkin."

¹⁸ And saying is Leah, "Giving is the Elohim my hire, for I give my maid to my husband.And calling is she his name Issachar. ¹⁹ And pregnant again is Leah, and is bearing a sixth son for Jacob. ²⁰ And saying is Leah, "Dowering me is the Elohim with a good dowry this time. My husband will prefer me, for I bear for him six sons.And calling is she his name Zebulon.

² And placing is he the maids and their children first, and Leah and her children after them, and Rachel and Joseph last.

⁸ And these are the names of the sons of Israel coming to Egypt: Jacob and his sons: The firstborn of Jacob, Reuben. ⁹ And the sons of Reuben: Enoch and Phallu and Hezron and Carmi. ¹⁰ And the sons of Simeon: Jemuel and Jamin and Ohad and Jachin and Zohar and Shaul, son of a Canaanitess. ¹¹ And the sons of Levi: Gershon, Kohas and Merari. ¹² And the sons of Judah: Er and Onan and Shelah and Pharez and Zarah. Yet Er and Onan died in the land of Canaan. And there come to be sons of Pharez: Hezron and Hamul. ¹³ And the sons of Issachar: Tola and Phuvah and Jashub and Shimron. ¹⁴ And the sons of Zebulon: Sered and Elon and Jahleel. ¹⁵ These are the sons of Leah, which she bears for Jacob in Padan, Syria, and Dinah, his daughter. All the souls of his sons and his daughters are thirty-three.

² Reuben, Simeon, Levi and Judah, ³ Issachar, Zebulun and Benjamin, ⁴ Dan and Naphtali, Gad and Asher.

¹⁶ And journeying is Jacob from Beth-El, and it comes to be still some distance over land to come to Ephrath. And bearing is Rachel, and hard is she having it in her bearing. ¹⁷ And coming is it, as she has it hard in her bearing, then saying to her is the midwife, "You must not fear, for this, moreover, is a son for you!" ¹⁸ And coming is it, when forth fares her soul (for she died), that she is calling his name Ben-oni. Yet his father calls his name Benjamin.

¹⁹ The sons of Rachel, Jacob's wife: Joseph and Benjamin. ²⁰ And sons are born to Joseph in the land of Egypt, whom Asenath, daughter of Potiphera, priest of On, bears for him, Manasseh and Ephraim. And the sons are born to Manasseh, whom a Syrian concubine bears for him, Machir. And Machir begets Galaad. And the sons of Ephraim, Manasseh's brother: Soutalaam and Taam. And the son of Soutalaam: Edem. ²¹ And the sons of Benjamin: Belah and Becher and Ashbel. And sons were born to Belah: Gera and Naaman, Ehi and Rosh, Muppim and Huppim and to Gera is born Ard. ²² These are the sons of Rachel, who were born to Jacob. All the souls are eighteen.

⁴ And giving him is she Bilhah, her maid, for a wife. And coming is Jacob to her. ⁵ And pregnant is Rachel's maid, Bilhah, and is bearing for Jacob a son. ⁶ And saying is Rachel, "Adjudicated has the Elohim for me, and, moreover, He hears my voice, and is giving to me a son.Therefore she calls his name Dan. ⁷ And pregnant is she again, and bearing is Bilhah, Rachel's maid, a second son for Jacob. ⁸ And saying is Rachel, "With twistings of the Elohim am I twisted with my sister, and moreover, I prevail.And calling is she his name Naphtali.

² These are the genealogical annals of Jacob. Joseph, seventeen years of age, comes to be grazing the flock with his brothers, and he, the lad, is with the sons of Bilhah and the sons of Zilpah, wives of his father. And bringing is Joseph their evil mutterings to Israel, their father.

²³ And the sons of Dan: Hushim. ²⁴ And the sons of Naphtali: Jahzeel and Guni and Jezer and Shillem. ²⁵ These are the sons of Bilhah, whom Laban gives to Rachel, his daughter. And she bears these for Jacob. All the souls are seven.

²⁰ And coming is Isaac to be forty years of age at his taking Rebecca, the daughter of Bethuel, the Syrian of Padan, Syria, the sister of Laban the Syrian, for his wife.

² Rise, go to Padan, Syria, the home of Bethuel, your mother's father and take for yourself thence a wife, from the daughters of Laban, the brother of your mother.

⁹ And seeing is Leah that she stays from bearing. And taking is she Zilpah, her maid, and is giving her to Jacob for a wife. And coming is Jacob to her, ¹⁰ and Zilpah, Leah's maid, is pregnant and bearing for Jacob a son. ¹¹ And saying is Leah, "Coming is a raid!"And calling is she his name Gad. ¹² And pregnant is Zilpah, Leah's maid, and is bearing a second son for Jacob. ¹³ And saying is Leah "Happiness is mine, for the daughters call me happy.And calling is she his name Ashur.

¹⁸ and leading away all his cattle, and all his goods which he got, the cattle he acquired, which he got in Padan, Syria, to come to Isaac, his father, to the land of Canaan.

¹⁶ And the sons of Gad: Ziphion and Haggi and Shuni and Ezbon, Eri and Arodi and Areli. ¹⁷ And the sons of Asher: Imnah and Ishuah and Ishui and Beriah; and Serah, their sister. And the sons of Beriah: Heber and Malchiel. ¹⁸ These are the sons of Zilpah, whom Laban gives to his daughter Leah, and she bears these for Jacob--sixteen souls.

¹⁸ And tenting is Abram, and coming and dwelling among the oaks of Mamre, which are in Hebron. And building is he there an altar to Yahweh.

¹³ And coming is one who was delivered, and he is telling Abram, the Hebrew. Now he is tabernacling among the oaks of Mamre, the Amorite, brother of Eshcol and brother of Aner. And they are possessors of a covenant with Abram.

² And dying is Sarah in the town of Arba, in the vale. (It is Hebron, in the land of Canaan.) And coming is Abraham to wail over Sarah and to lament for her.

¹⁹ And afterward Abraham entombs Sarah, his wife, at the double cave of the field adjoining Mamre. (It is Hebron, in the land of Canaan..

⁵ And Isaac is sending Jacob away. And going is he to Padan, Syria, to Laban, son of Bethuel the Syrian, brother of Rebecca, the mother of Jacob and Esau.

¹² `And now, give to me this hill-country, of which Yahweh spoke in that day, for you did hear in that day, for Anakim [are] there, and cities, great, fenced; if so be Yahweh [is] with me, then I have dispossessed them, as Yahweh has spoken.. ¹³ And Joshua blesses him, and gives Hebron to Caleb son of Jephunneh for an inheritance, ¹⁴ therefore has Hebron been to Caleb son of Jephunneh the Kenezzite for an inheritance unto this day, because that he was fully after Yahweh, Elohim of Israel;" ¹⁵ and the name of Hebron formerly [is] Kirjath-Arba (he [is] the great man among the Anakim); and the land has rest from war.

¹³ And to Caleb son of Jephunneh has he given a portion in the midst of the sons of Judah, according to the command of Yahweh to Joshua, [even] the city of Arba, father of Anak--it [is] Hebron.

¹¹ and they give to them the city of Arba father of Anak (it [is] Hebron), in the hill-country of Judah, and its suburbs round about it;"

¹ And it comes to pass afterwards, that David asks at Yahweh, saying, `Do I go up into one of the cities of Judah?' and Yahweh said unto him, `Go up.' And David said, `Whither do I go up?' and He said, `To Hebron..

³ and his men who [are] with him has David brought up--a man and his household--and they dwell in the cities of Hebron.

¹¹ And the number of the days that David has been king in Hebron, over the house of Judah, is seven years and six months.

¹ And all the tribes of Israel come unto David, to Hebron, and speak, saying, `Lo, we [are] your bone and your flesh;"

³ And all the elders of Israel come unto the king, to Hebron, and king David makes with them a covenant in Hebron before Yahweh, and they anoint David for king over Israel.

⁵ in Hebron he reigned over Judah seven years and six months, and in Jerusalem he reigned thirty and three years, over all Israel and Judah.

⁷ And these are the days of the years of the life of Abraham, which he lives--a hundred and seventy five years.

²⁸ And living is Jacob in the land of Egypt seventeen years. And coming are the days of the years of Jacob's life to be a hundred and forty-seven years.

²⁶ And dying is Joseph, a hundred and ten years old. And embalming him are they, and placed is he in a coffer in Egypt.

¹⁹ In the sweat of your face shall you eat your bread, till your return to the ground, for from it are you taken, for soil you are, and to soil are you returning.

¹⁵ Yet you shall come to your forefathers in peace, and be entombed at a good grey-haired age.

¹⁹ And afterward Abraham entombs Sarah, his wife, at the double cave of the field adjoining Mamre. (It is Hebron, in the land of Canaan.. ²⁰ And confirmed is the field and the cave which is in it to Abraham for a holding for a tomb from the sons of Heth.

⁷ And these are the days of the years of the life of Abraham, which he lives--a hundred and seventy five years. ⁸ And expiring is Abraham, and dying in a good grey-haired age, old and satisfied with days. And gathered is he to his people. ⁹ And entombing him are his sons, Isaac and Ishmael, in the double cave in the field of Ephron, the son of Zohar, the Hittite, which is adjoining Mamre,

¹⁷ And these are the years of the life of Ishmael: a hundred and thirty seven years. And expiring is he, and died, and is gathered to his people.

¹ And coming it is that old is Isaac, dim-sighted are his eyes. And calling is he Esau, his elder son, and is saying to him, "My son!"And saying is he to him, "Behold me!" ² And saying is he, "Behold, pray! Old am I, and not know do I the day of my death.

⁴¹ And a grudge is Esau holding against Jacob on account of the blessing with which his father blesses him. And saying is Esau in his heart, "Approaching are the days of mourning for my father, when I will kill Jacob, my brother.

³¹ And there they entombed Isaac and Rebecca, his wife. "And there I entombed Leah.

³³ And finishing is Jacob instructing his sons, and gathering is he his feet into the couch and is expiring, and is being gathered to his people.

²⁶ You shall come to the tomb in mature age, Like a shock of grain that ascends in its season.

⁵ Moreover, one fears lofty heights, And catastrophes are on the road, When the almond tree flowers, And the grasshopper is burdensome, And the caperberry's effects are annulled, When man goes to his eonian home, And those lamenting turn about in the street;" ⁶ Remember Him, while the silver cable is not yet pulled away, And the golden bowl is splintered, And the jar is broken at the fount, And the rolling wheel is splintered at the cistern, ⁷ And the soil returns to the earth just as it was, And the spirit, it returns to the One, Elohim, Who gave it."
