¹ You must not rejoice, Israel, with exultation as the peoples, for you commit prostitution departing from your Elohim. You love a fee on all the threshing sites for grain;" ² the threshing site and the wine vat shall not know them, and the grape juice shall dissimulate in them." ³ They shall not dwell in the land of Yahweh, and Ephraim shall return to Egypt, and in Assyria they shall eat the unclean thing." ⁴ They shall not libate wine to Yahweh, and they shall not be congenial to Him. Their sacrifices are as the bread of sighings to them. All who are eating it are defiling themselves. For their bread is for their own soul; it shall not enter into the house of Yahweh." ⁵ What will you do for the day of appointment, and for the day of the celebration of Yahweh? ⁶ For behold! They shall go away from devastation. Egypt will convene them; Memphis shall entomb them. The coveted places for their silver--the sting nettle shall tenant them. The thistle shall be in their tents. ⁷ The days of visitation shall come; the days of repayment shall come, and Israel shall know it. The prophet is foolish; the man of the spirit is mad on account of the multitude of your depravity, and the vast grudging." ⁸ The watchman of Ephraim was with my Elohim. The prophet is a snare, a trap in all his ways, a grudging in the house of his Elohim." ⁹ Deeply they ruin as in the days of Gibeah. He will remember their depravity and will note their sins. ¹⁰ As grapes in a wilderness I found Israel; as a firstfruit, when the fig tree is in its beginning, I saw your forefathers. They came to Baal-peor and are sequestering themselves for shame. And they are becoming abominations, as that which they love." ¹¹ Ephraim is as a flyer; their glory shall fly itself away from birth, and from the belly and from pregnancy." ¹² For, if they are bringing up their sons, then will I bereave them of a human, for, moreover, woe to them when My control is away from them!" ¹³ Ephraim, just as I see as to Tyre, is transplanted into a homestead, yet Ephraim shall bring forth his sons to the killer." ¹⁴ Give to them, Yahweh! What wilt You give? Give to them a bereaving womb and shrivelling breasts." ¹⁵ All their evil is in Gilgal, for there I hated them. On account of the evil of their actions, from My house will I drive them out. I will continue to love them. All their chiefs are stubborn." ¹⁶ Smitten is Ephraim. Their root is dry; fruit shall they fail to yield. Moreover, in case they shall generate, then I will put to death the coveted ones of their belly." ¹⁷ My Elohim will reject them, for they did not hearken to Him. And they shall become wanderers among the nations."

⁵² And the name of the second he calls Ephraim, for "the Elohim makes me fruitful in the land of my humiliation.

Place your right on his head. ¹⁹ And refusing is his father and saying, "I know, my son! I know! Moreover, he shall become a people, and he shall become great. Howbeit, his smaller brother shall be greater than he. And his seed shall become a fullness of the nations. ²⁰ And blessing them is he in that day, saying, "By you shall Israel bless, saying, "The Elohim make you as Ephraim and as Manasseh!.And placing is he Ephraim before Manasseh.

²² A fruitful son is Joseph, a fruitful son, joy of my eye, my son, inferior, to me has returned,

⁴ You have seen what I did to the Egyptians when I bore you on vultures' wings and brought you to Myself. ⁵ Now, if you shall hearken, yea hearken to My voice and observe My covenant then you will become Mine, a special possession, above all the peoples, for Mine is all the earth. ⁶ As for you, you shall become Mine, a kingdom of priests and a holy nation. These are the words which you shall speak to the sons of Israel.

²³ and he arranged on it the array of bread before Yahweh, just as Yahweh had instructed Moses.

¹¹ for the soul of the flesh, it is in the blood, and I Myself have assigned it to you to make a propitiatory shelter over your souls on the altar; for the blood, in the soul it makes a propitiatory shelter.

²⁸ so that the land shall not vomit you out when you defile it, just as it vomited out the nations which were before you.

²² You shall observe all My statutes and all My judgments and keep them so that the land, where I am bringing you to dwell in it, shall not vomit you out.

⁶ Holy shall they become to their Elohim; they shall not profane the name of their Elohim. Because they are bringing near the fire offerings of Yahweh, the bread of their Elohim, they are to be holy.

⁸ You will regard him as holy, for he is bringing near the bread of your Elohim. He shall become holy to you, for I am holy, Yahweh Who is hallowing you.

¹⁷ Speak to Aaron, saying, A man of your seed throughout their generations, in whom there is a blemish, he shall not approach to bring near the bread of his Elohim.

²¹ Any man of the seed of Aaron the priest, in whom there is a blemish, shall not come close to bring near the fire offerings of Yahweh. Since a blemish is in him, he shall not come close to bring near the bread of his Elohim.

²³ The land-use, it shall not be sold in perpetuity, for the land is Mine, since you are sojourners and guests with Me.

³⁰ I will exterminate your fane heights, cut down your incense stands and bestow your corpses upon the corpses of your idol clods; thus My soul will loathe you.

⁷ And over the table of the presence they shall spread a blue cloth, and they will put on it the dishes and the spoons, the waste pans and the libation chalices. Also the continual bread shall be on it.

²³ When they came back to the watercourse of Eshcol they cut from there a pruned slip with one cluster of grapes and carried it on a slider bar by two, also some of the pomegranates and the figs. ²⁴ That place one called the watercourse of Eshcol on account of the cluster which the sons of Israel cut from there.

³⁹ You will come to have a tassel so that you will see it, remember all the instructions of Yahweh and observe them and not explore after your heart and after your eyes after which you are prostituting;"

¹¹ The one touching the dead body of any human soul will be unclean seven days.

¹ While Israel dwelt in Shittim, the people started to commit prostitution with the daughters of Moab, ² who called the people to the sacrifices of their elohim. The people ate their sacrifices and bowed themselves down to their elohim. ³ Thus Israel was paired with Baal-peor, and the anger of Yahweh grew hot against Israel. ⁴ Yahweh said to Moses:Take all heads of the people and gibbet them before Yahweh in front of the sun so that the heat of Yahweh's anger might turn back from Israel. ⁵ So Moses said to the judges of Israel:Kill each one his men who are pairing themselves with Baal-peor. ⁶ Behold, a man from the sons of Israel was coming in, and he brought near to his brothers a Midianite woman before the eyes of Moses and before the eyes of the whole congregation of the sons of Israel while they were lamenting at the opening of the tent of appointment. ⁷ When Phineas, son of Eleazar, son of Aaron the priest, saw it, he arose from the midst of the congregation and took a lance in his hand. ⁸ He came after the man of Israel to the alcove and stabbed the two of them, the man of Israel and the woman, into her pelvis. Then the stroke was restrained from the sons of Israel. ⁹ Those dying in the stroke were twenty-four thousand. ¹⁰ Yahweh spoke to Moses, saying. ¹¹ Phineas, son of Eleazar, son of Aaron the priest, reversed My fury from the sons of Israel in his zeal for My jealousy in their midst so I did not finish the sons of Israel in My jealousy. ¹² Therefore say:Behold Me giving to him My covenant of peace; ¹³ it will be his and his seed's after him, the covenant of an eonian priesthood, inasmuch as he was zealous for his Elohim and made a propitiatory shelter over the sons of Israel. ¹⁴ The name of the smitten man of Israel, who was smitten with the Midianite woman, was Zimri son of Salu, a prince of a father's house of the Simeonite. ¹⁵ And the name of the smitten Midianite woman was Cozbi daughter of Zur. He was a head of clans of a father's house in Midian. ¹⁶ Yahweh spoke to Moses, saying. ¹⁷ Distress the Midianites and smite them, ¹⁸ for they were distressing you in their plots which they plotted against you over the matter of Peor and over the matter of their sister Cozbi, daughter of a prince of Midian, who was smitten on the day of the stroke over the matter of Peor.

⁶⁵ for Yahweh had said to them that they would die, yea die in the wilderness. And not a man of them was left save Caleb son of Jephunneh and Joshua son of Nun.

² Instruct the sons of Israel and say to them:My approach present, My bread for My fire offerings, My fragrant odor shall you observe to bring near to Me at its appointed time.

³ Your eyes were the ones seeing all that Yahweh did with regard to Baal-peor, for every man who went after Baal-peor, Yahweh your Elohim exterminated from among you.

²⁶ I testify against you today by the heavens and the earth, that you shall perish, yea perish quickly off the land where you are crossing over the Jordan to tenant it. You shall not prolong your days on it, for you shall be exterminated, yea exterminated.

¹⁴ I have not eaten of it in my sorrow; I have not taken out any of it while unclean, and I have not given of it for the dead. I have hearkened to the voice of Yahweh my Elohim. I have done according to all that You have instructed me.

¹⁸ Cursed be the fruit of your belly, the fruit of your ground and the fruit of your beast, the calving of your domestic animals and the lambing of your flock.

³² Your sons and your daughters shall be given to another people, and your eyes shall be staring and wasting away for them all the day, yet there will be nothing at the disposal of your hand.

⁴¹ You shall generate sons and daughters, yet they shall not become yours, for they shall go into captivity. ⁴² The cicada shall make all your trees and the fruit of your ground destitute.

⁵⁷ even for her afterbirth coming forth from between her feet, even for her sons whom she is bearing, for she shall eat them for lack of everything, in concealment during the siege and during the constraint with which your enemy shall constrain you in your gates.

⁶³ So it will come to be, just as Yahweh was elated over you to bring you good and to let you increase, so Yahweh shall be elated over you to destroy you and to exterminate you, so that you will be swept away off the ground where you are entering to tenant it.

⁶⁸ Then Yahweh will bring you back complaining to Egypt by the way of which I said to you:You should not again see it further. There you will put yourselves up for sale to your enemies as servants and as maids, yet there will be no buyer.

¹⁷ My anger will grow hot against them on that day, and I will forsake them and conceal My face from them; then they will come to be devoured, and many evils and distresses will find them. Then they will say on that day:Is it not because our Elohim is not among us that these evils have found us?

¹⁰ He found him in a wilderness country, and in a chaos, a howling desolation. He surrounded him; He made him understand; He preserved him as the pupil of His eye.

¹⁷ They sacrificed to demons, not Eloah, to elohim--they had not known them before--to new ones that came from nearby; your fathers were not horrified by them.

²⁵ From the outside, the sword shall bereave, and from the chambers, the dread of war, even for the man in his prime, even for the virgin, the suckling along with the grey-haired man. ²⁶ I would say:I might blow them away, I might eradicate their remembrance from mortals,

² At that time said Yahweh unto Joshua, `Make for you knives of flint, and turn back, circumcise the sons of Israel a second time;. <sup>3</sup> and Joshua makes for him knives of flint, and circumcises the sons of Israel at the height of the foreskins. <sup>4</sup> And this [is] the thing [for] which Joshua circumcises [them]:all the people who are coming out of Egypt, who are males, all the men of war have died in the wilderness, in the way, in their coming out of Egypt, <sup>5</sup> for all the people who are coming out were circumcised, and all the people who [are] born in the wilderness, in the way, in their coming out from Egypt, they have not circumcised;" <sup>6</sup> for forty years have the sons of Israel gone in the wilderness, till all the nation of the men of war who are coming out of Egypt, who hearkened not to the voice of Yahweh, to whom Yahweh has sworn not to show them the land which Yahweh sware to their fathers to give to us, a land flowing with milk and honey, are consumed;" <sup>7</sup> and their sons He raised up in their stead, them has Joshua circumcised, for they have been uncircumcised, for they have not circumcised them in the way. <sup>8</sup> And it comes to pass when all the nation have completed to be circumcised, that they abide in their places in the camp till their recovering;" <sup>9</sup> and Yahweh said unto Joshua, `To-day I have rolled the reproach of Egypt from off you;' and [one] calls the name of that place Gilgal unto this day.

¹⁵ `And it has been, as there has come upon you all the good thing which Yahweh your Elohim has spoken unto you, so does Yahweh bring upon you the whole of the evil thing, till His destroying you from off this good ground which Yahweh your Elohim has given to you;"

¹⁶ And lo, a man, an aged one, has come from his work from the field in the evening, and the man [is] of the hill-country of Ephraim, and he [is] a sojourner in Gibeah, and the men of the place [are] Benjamites. ¹⁷ And he lifts up his eyes, and sees the man, the traveller, in a broad place of the city, and the aged man said, `Whither go you? and whence come you?. <sup>18</sup> And he said unto him, `We are passing over from Beth-Lehem-Judah unto the sides of the hill-country of Ephraim--thence I [am], and I go unto Beth-Lehem-Judah; and to the house of Yahweh I am going, and there is no man gathering me into the house, ¹⁹ and both straw and provender are for our asses, and also bread and wine there are for me, and for your handmaid, and for the young man with your servants; there is no lack of anything.. ²⁰ And the old man said, `Peace to you; only, all your lack [is] on me, only in the broad place lodge not.. ²¹ And he brings him in to his house, and mixes [food] for the asses, and they wash their feet, and eat and drink.

¹⁶ among all this people [are] seven hundred chosen men, bound of their right hand, each of these slinging with a stone at the hair, and he does not err. ¹⁷ And the men of Israel numbered themselves, apart from Benjamin, four hundred thousand men, drawing sword, each of these a man of war. ¹⁸ And they rise and go up to Beth-El, and ask of Elohim, and the sons of Israel say, `Who does go up for us at the commencement to battle with the sons of Benjamin?' and Yahweh said, `Judah--at the commencement.. ¹⁹ And the sons of Israel rise in the morning, and encamp against Gibeah, ²⁰ and the men of Israel go out to battle with Benjamin, and the men of Israel set themselves in array with them, [for] battle against Gibeah, ²¹ and the sons of Benjamin come out from Gibeah, and destroy in Israel on that day two and twenty thousand men--to the earth.

³⁶ And it comes to pass, at the going up of the [evening -]present, that Elijah the prophet comes nigh and said, `Yahweh, Elohim of Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, to-day let it be known that You [are] Elohim in Israel, and I Your servant, that by Your word I have done the whole of these things;" <sup>37</sup> answer me, O Yahweh, answer me, and this people does know that You [are] Yahweh Elohim; and You have turned their heart backward.. <sup>38</sup> And there falls a fire of Yahweh, and consumes the burnt-offering, and the wood, and the stones, and the dust, and the water that [is] in the trench it has licked up. <sup>39</sup> And all the people see, and fall on their faces, and say, `Yahweh, He [is] the Elohim, Yahweh, He [is] the Elohim..

⁶ and the king of Israel gathers the prophets, about four hundred men, and said unto them, `Do I go against Ramoth-Gilead to battle, or do I forbear?' and they say, `Go up, and the Lord does give [it] into the hand of the king..

¹⁴ and he takes the robe of Elijah that fell from off him, and smites the waters, and said, `Where [is] Yahweh, Elohim of Elijah--even He?' and he smites the waters, and they are halved, hither and thither, and Elisha passes over.

¹⁵ and now, bring to me a minstrel; and it has been, at the playing of the minstrel, that the hand of Yahweh is on him, ¹⁶ and he said, `Thus said Yahweh, Make this valley ditches--ditches;" <sup>17</sup> for thus said Yahweh, You do not see wind, nor do you see rain, and that valley is full of water, and you have drunk--you, and your cattle, and your beasts. <sup>18</sup> `And this has been light in the eyes of Yahweh, and he has given Moab into your hand, ¹⁹ and you have smitten every fenced city, and every choice city, and every good tree you cause to fall, and all fountains of waters you stop, and every good portion you mar with stones.. ²⁰ And it comes to pass in the morning, at the ascending of the [morning] -present, that lo, waters are coming in from the way of Edom, and the land is filled with the waters,

¹ And a certain woman of the wives of the sons of the prophets has cried unto Elisha, saying, `Your servant, my husband, is dead, and you have known that your servant was fearing Yahweh, and the lender has come to take my two children to him for servants.. <sup>2</sup> And Elisha said unto her, `What do I do for you? declare to me, what have you in the house?' and she said, `Your maid-servant has nothing in the house except a pot of oil.. <sup>3</sup> And he said, `Go, ask for you vessels from without, from all your neighbors--empty vessels--let [them] not be few;" ⁴ and you have entered, and shut the door upon you, and upon your sons, and have poured out into all these vessels, and the full ones you do remove.. ⁵ And she goes from him, and shuts the door upon her, and upon her sons; they are bringing nigh unto her, and she is pouring out, ⁶ and it comes to pass, at the filling of the vessels, that she said unto her son, `Bring nigh unto me a vessel more,' and he said unto her, `There is not a vessel more;' and the oil stays. ⁷ And she comes and declares to the man of Elohim, and he said, `Go, sell the oil, and repay your loan; and you [and] your sons do live of the rest..

³³ and he goes in and shuts the door upon them both, and prays unto Yahweh. ³⁴ And he goes up, and lies down on the lad, and puts his mouth on his mouth, and his eyes on his eyes, and his hands on his hands, and stretches himself upon him, and the flesh of the lad becomes warm;" ³⁵ and he turns back and walks in the house, once hither and once thither, and goes up and stretches himself upon him, and the youth sneezes till seven times, and the youth opens his eyes. ³⁶ And he calls unto Gehazi, and said, `Call unto this Shunammite;' and he calls her, and she comes in unto him, and he said, `Lift up your son.. ³⁷ And she goes in, and falls at his feet, and bows herself to the earth, and lifts up her son, and goes out.

⁴¹ And he said, `Then bring you meal;' and he casts into the pot, and said, `Pour out for the people, and they eat;' and there was no evil thing in the pot.

⁴³ And his minister said, `What--do I give this before a hundred men?' and he said, `Give to the people, and they eat, for thus said Yahweh, Eat and leave;.

¹⁴ And he goes down and dips in Jordan seven times, according to the word of the man of Elohim, and his flesh does turn back as the flesh of a little youth, and is clean.

²⁷ yea, the leprosy of Naaman does cleave to you, and to your seed, --to the eon;' and he goes out from before him--leprous as snow.

¹⁷ And Elisha prays, and said, `Yahweh, open, I pray You, his eyes, and he does see;' and Yahweh opens the eyes of the young man, and he sees, and lo, the hill is full of horses and chariots of fire, round about Elisha. <sup>18</sup> And they come down unto it, and Elisha prays unto Yahweh, and said, `Smite, I pray You, this nation with blindness;' and He smites them with blindness, according to the word of Elisha.

² And the captain whom the king has, by whose hand he has been supported, answers the man of Elohim and said, `Lo, Yahweh is making windows in the heavens--shall this thing be?' and he said, `Lo, you are seeing it with your eyes, and thereof you do not eat..

"I am surfeited with ascent approaches of rams, and the fat of fatlings, and in the blood of young bulls and he-lambs and he-goats I do not delight." ¹² In case you are coming to appear before Me--Who seeks this from your hand, to tramp My courts? ¹³ Do not continue to bring a futile approach present. Incense--it is an abhorrence to Me! The new moon and the sabbath, the calling of a meeting--! I cannot bear a fast and a day of restraint!" ¹⁴ Your new moons and your appointments are hated by My soul. They become an encumbrance to Me. I am tired of bearing them. ¹⁵ And when you spread your palms to Me, I will obscure My eyes from you. Moreover, in case you are increasing your prayers, there is no hearing by Me. Your hands are full of blood. Amidst your fingers extrudes lawlessness."

²³ Your chiefs are stubborn, and partners of thieves. Everyone loves a bribe, and pursues payments. The orphan they are not judging. And the contention of the widow is not coming to them."

³ Yet what will you do in the day of visitation, and in the tumult which shall come from afar? To whom will you flee for help, and whither will you leave your glory?

¹¹ And it comes, in that day, Yahweh will proceed to lift up His hand, to be zealous for the remnant of His people which will remain, from Assyria, and from Egypt, and from Babylon, and from Pathros, and from Ethiopia, and from Elam, and from Shinar, and from Hamath, and from Arabia, and from the coastlands of the sea."

¹⁵ Then Yahweh will drain the tongue of the sea of Egypt, and wave His hand over the stream with the vehemence of His wind, and smite it into seven watercourses, and one will tread it in sandals" ¹⁶ And there comes to be a highway for the remnant of His people, who will remain from Assyria, and in Egypt, as it came to be for Israel in the day they came up from the land of Egypt."

Cease does the elation of the harp. ⁹ Ashamed, they are drinking no wine. And the intoxicant is bitter to its drinkers." ¹⁰ Broken is every town--a chaos. Locked is every house against entry. ¹¹ Yelling over the wine is in the streets; the eventide is it for all rejoicing. Deported is all the elation of the land. ¹² And there remains in the city, desolation, and houses, forsaken, perish, and a tumult is pounding the gate."

¹¹ Yahweh, Your exalted hand they will fail to perceive. Yet they shall perceive and be shamed by the zeal of the disciplined people. Indeed, the fire of Your foes will devour them."

²⁴ Indeed, they wilt when planted; indeed, they wilt when sown; indeed, a root will wilt in the earth as their set-slip. And, moreover, a breeze blows on them, and they are drying. And a tempest, as straw, is bearing them away."

²⁵ Annulling the signs of the inventors of deception, and making the diviners bluster, causing the wise to return backward, and making their knowledge silly,

¹⁸ O that you attended to My instructions! Then your welfare will become as a stream, and your righteousness as billows of the sea."

Moreover, they choose their own ways, and in their abominations their soul delights."

² `Go, and you have called in the ears of Jerusalem, saying, Thus said Yahweh:I have remembered for you The kindness of your youth, the love of your espousals, Your going after Me in a wilderness, in a land not sown." ³ Holy [is] Israel to Yahweh, The first-fruit of His increase, All consuming him are guilty, Evil comes in unto them, an affirmation of Yahweh."

⁷ Yea, I bring you in to a land of fruitful fields, To eat its fruit and its goodness, And you come in and defile My land, And Mine inheritance have made an abomination."

⁸ And I see when (for all the causes whereby backsliding Israel committed adultery) I have sent her away, and I give the bill of her divorce unto her, that treacherous Judah her sister has not feared, and goes and commits fornication--she also."

⁵ I get me to the great, and I speak with them, For they have known the way of Yahweh, The judgment of their Elohim.' Surely they together have broken the yoke, They have drawn away the bands."

³¹ The prophets have prophesied falsely, And the priests bear rule by their means, And My people have loved [it] so, And what do they at its latter end?

¹⁴ And they heal the breach of the daughter of my people slightly, Saying, `Peace, peace!' and there is no peace."

¹⁷ And I have raised up for you watchmen, Attend you to the voice of the trumpet. And they say, `We do not attend.'"

²⁰ Why [is] this to Me? frankincense from Sheba comes, And the sweet cane from a land afar off, Your burnt-offerings [are] not for acceptance, And your sacrifices have not been sweet to Me."

²³ And they have no remnant, For I bring evil unto the men of Anathoth, The year of their inspection!'"

³ For thus said Yahweh, Of the sons and of the daughters who are born in this place, And of their mothers--those bearing them, And of their fathers--those begetting them in this land:" ⁴ Of painful deaths they die, They are not lamented, nor are they buried, For dung on the face of the ground they are, And by sword and by famine are consumed, And their carcase has been for food To the fowl of the heavens, And to the beast of the earth."

³ `From the thirteenth year of Josiah son of Amon king of Judah, and unto this day--this three and twentieth year--has the word of Yahweh been unto me, and I speak unto you, rising early and speaking, and you have not hearkened;" ⁴ And Yahweh has sent unto you all His servants, the prophets, rising early and sending, and you have not hearkened, nor inclined your ear to hear, saying:"

⁴ `And you have said unto them:Thus said Yahweh, If you do not hearken unto Me, to walk in My law, that I set before you, ⁵ To hearken to the words of My servants the prophets, whom I am sending unto you, yea, rising early and sending, and you have not hearkened, ⁶ Then I have given up this house as Shiloh, and this city I give up for a reviling to all nations of the earth.'"

¹⁵ And I send unto you all My servants the prophets, rising early and sending, saying:Turn back, I pray you, each from his evil way, and amend your doings, yea, you do not walk after other elohims, to serve them, and dwell you on the ground that I have given to you and to your fathers; and you have not inclined your ear, nor hearkened unto Me." ¹⁶ `Because the sons of Jonadab son of Rechab have performed the command of their father, that he commanded them, and this people have not hearkened unto Me, ¹⁷ therefore thus said Yahweh, Elohim of Hosts, Elohim of Israel:Lo, I am bringing in unto Judah, and unto all inhabitants of Jerusalem, all the evil that I have spoken against them, because I have spoken unto them, and they have not hearkened, yea, I call to them, and they have not answered.'"

¹⁷ for we certainly do everything that has gone out of our mouth, to make perfume to the queen of the heavens, and to pour out to her libations, as we have done, we, and our fathers, our kings, and our heads, in cities of Judah, and in streets of Jerusalem, and--we are satisfied with bread, and we are well, and evil we have not seen."

²¹ Even her hired ones in her midst [are] as calves of the stall, For even they have turned, They have fled together, they have not stood, For the day of their calamity has come on them, The time of their inspection."

¹⁴ Your prophets envision for you futility and trumpery, And they do not expose your depravity to reverse your captivity, But they are envisioning for you loads of futility and false inducements."

²⁰ See, O Yahweh, and look at those whom You have dealt severely thus; Should women be eating their own fruit, their infants cradled in arms? Should priest and prophet be killed in the sanctuary of Yahweh?

¹³ Because of the sins of her prophets, the depravities of her priests, Who were pouring out within her the blood of the righteous,

²¹ Be elated and rejoice, daughter of Edom, you who are dwelling in the country of Uz; To you also shall pass the cup of Yahweh; you shall become drunk and denude yourself."

¹⁷ that there is a word of Yahweh unto me, saying, `Son of man, a watchman I have given you to the house of Israel, and you have heard from My mouth a word, and have warned them from Me."

¹³ And Yahweh said, `Thus do the sons of Israel eat their defiled bread among the nations whither I drive them.'"

² An end, come has the end on the four corners of the land." ³ Now [is] the end unto you, And I have sent Mine anger upon you, And judged you according to your ways, And set against you all your abominations." ⁴ And no pity on you has Mine eye, nor do I spare, For your ways against you I do set, And your abominations are in your midst, And you have known that I [am] Yahweh." ⁵ Thus said the Lord Yahweh:Evil, a single evil, lo, it has come." ⁶ An end has come, come has the end, It has waked for you, lo, it has come." ⁷ Come has the morning unto you, O inhabitant of the land! Come has the time, near [is] a day of trouble, And not the shouting of mountains."

²² `Son of man, what [is] this simile to you, concerning the land of Israel, saying, Prolonged are the days, and perished has every vision? <sup>23</sup> therefore say unto them:Thus said the Lord Yahweh:I have caused this simile to cease, And they use it not as a simile again in Israel, But speak to them:Drawn near have the days, And spoken has every vision." <sup>24</sup> For there is no more any vain vision, and flattering divination, In the midst of the house of Israel." <sup>25</sup> For I [am] Yahweh, I speak, The word that I speak--it is done, It is not prolonged any more, For, in your days, O rebellious house, I speak a word, and I have done it, An affirmation of the Lord Yahweh.'" <sup>26</sup> And there is a word of Yahweh unto me, saying:" <sup>27</sup> `Son of man, lo, the house of Israel are saying, The vision that he is seeing [is] for many days, and of times far off he is prophesying, ²⁸ therefore say unto them:Thus said the Lord Yahweh:None of my words are prolonged any more, When I speak a word--it is done, An affirmation of the Lord Yahweh!'"

³ Thus said the Lord Yahweh:Woe unto the prophets who are foolish, Who are going after their own spirit, And they have seen nothing."

¹⁰ Because, even because, they did cause My people to err, Saying, Peace! and there is no peace, And that one is building a wall, And lo, they are daubing it with chalk."

⁹ `And the prophet, when he is enticed, and has spoken a word--I, Yahweh, I have enticed that prophet, and have stretched out My hand against him, and have destroyed him from the midst of My people Israel." ¹⁰ And they have borne their iniquity:as the iniquity of the inquirer, so is the iniquity of the prophet;"

⁴⁷ And--in their ways you have not walked, And according to their abominations done, As a little thing it has been loathed, And you do more corruptly than they in all your ways." ⁴⁸ I live--an affirmation of the Lord Yahweh, Sodom your sister has not done--she and her daughters--As you have done--you and your daughters."

⁸ And--they rebel against Me, And have not been willing to hearken to Me, Each, the detestable things of their eyes, They have not cast away, And the idols of Egypt have not forsaken, And I say--to pour out My fury on them, To complete Mine anger against them, In the midst of the land of Egypt."

³² And that which is going up on your mind, It is not at all--in that you are saying:We will be as the nations, as the families of the lands, To serve wood and stone."

¹⁰ So as to slaughter a slaughter it is sharpened. So as to have brightness it is polished, Desire has rejoiced the sceptre of my son, It is despising every tree."

²⁷ Its princes in its midst [are] as wolves, Tearing prey, to shed blood, to destroy souls, For the sake of gaining dishonest gain."

¹⁸ And she reveals her whoredoms, And she reveals her nakedness, And alienated is My soul from off her, As alienated was My soul from off her sister."

¹⁷ Cease to groan, [for] the dead you do make no mourning, your bonnet bind on you, and your shoes you do put on your feet, and you do not cover over the upper lip, and bread of men you do not eat.'"

²¹ Say to the house of Israel:Thus said the Lord Yahweh:Lo, I am polluting My sanctuary, The excellency of your strength, The desire of your eyes, and the pitied of your soul, And your sons and your daughters whom you have left, by sword they do fall." ²² And you have done as I have done, On the upper lip you are not covered, And bread of men you do not eat."

¹⁷ And done upon them great vengeance with furious reproofs, And they have known that I [am] Yahweh, In My giving out My vengeance on them!"

¹ And it comes to pass, in the eleventh year, in the first of the month, there has been a word of Yahweh unto me, saying:`Son of man, ² Because that Tyre has said of Jerusalem:Aha, she has been broken, the doors of the peoples, She has turned round unto me, I am filled--she has been laid waste, ³ Therefore, thus said the Lord Yahweh:Lo, I [am] against you, O Tyre, And have caused to come up against you many nations, As the sea causes its billows to come up." ⁴ And they have destroyed the walls of Tyre, And they have broken down her towers, And I have scraped her dust from her, And made her for a clear place of a rock." ⁵ A spreading place of nets she is in the midst of the sea, For I--I have spoken--an affirmation of the Lord Yahweh, And she has been for a spoil to nations." ⁶ And her daughters who [are] in the field, by sword they are slain, And they have known that I [am] Yahweh, ⁷ For, thus said the Lord Yahweh:Lo, I am bringing in unto Tyre Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon, From the north--a king of kings, With horse, and with chariot, and with horsemen, Even an assembly, and a numerous people." ⁸ Your daughters in the field by sword he slays, And he has made against you a fort, And has poured out against you a mount, And has raised against you a buckler." ⁹ And a battering-ram before him he places against your walls, And your towers he breaks by his weapons." ¹⁰ From the abundance of his horses cover you does their dust, From the noise of horseman, and wheel, and rider, Shake do your walls, in his coming in to your gates, As the coming into a city broken-up." ¹¹ With hoofs of his horses he treads all your out-places, Your people by sword he does slay, And the pillars of your strength to the earth come down." ¹² And they have spoiled your wealth, And they have plundered your merchandise, And they have thrown down your walls, And your desirable houses they break down, And your stones, and your wood, and your dust, In the midst of the waters they place." ¹³ And I have caused the noise of your songs to cease, And the voice of your harps is heard no more." ¹⁴ And I have given you up for a clear place of a rock, A spreading-place of nets you are, You are not built up any more, For I, Yahweh, I have spoken, An affirmation of the Lord Yahweh." ¹⁵ Thus said the Lord Yahweh to Tyre:Do not--from the noise of your fall, In the groaning of the wounded, In the slaying of the slaughter in your midst, The isles shake? ¹⁶ And come down from off their thrones have all princes of the sea, And they have turned aside their robes, And their embroidered garments strip off, Trembling they put on, on the earth they sit, And they have trembled every moment, And they have been astonished at you, ¹⁷ And have lifted up for you a lamentation, And said to you:How have you perished, That are inhabited from the seas, The praised city, that was strong in the sea, She and her inhabitants, Who put their terror on all her inhabitants!" ¹⁸ Now they tremble, is it not the day of your fall? Troubled have been the isles that [are] in the sea, at your outgoing." ¹⁹ For thus said the Lord Yahweh:In my making you a city wasted, Like cities that have not been inhabited, In bringing up against you the deep, Then covered you have the great waters." ²⁰ And I have caused you to go down, With those going down to the pit, Unto the people of old, And I have caused you to dwell in the land, The lower parts--in wastes of old, With those going down to the pit, So that you are not inhabited, And I have given beauty in the land of the living." ²¹ Wastes I do make you, and you are not, And you are sought, and are not found any more--to the eon, An affirmation of the Lord Yahweh!'"

³ O dweller on the entrances of the sea, Merchant of the peoples unto many isles, Thus said the Lord Yahweh:O Tyre, you--you have said:I [am] the perfection of beauty."

⁷ And you, son of man, A watchman I gave you to the house of Israel, And you have heard from My mouth a word, And you have warned them from Me."
