¹ Down! And sit on the soil, virgin daughter of Babylon! Sit on the earth, not on a throne, daughter of the Chaldeans! For no more shall they call you, `tender and delicate.'" <sup>2</sup> Take a millstone and grind meal. Expose your draped form! Bare your skirt! Expose the leg! Pass over the streams! <sup>3</sup> Exposed shall be your nakedness! Moreover, apparent shall be your reproach! I will take vengeance on you, <sup>4</sup> and I will not interpose a human!says our Redeemer. Yahweh of hosts is His name, the Holy One of Israel." <sup>5</sup> Sit still, and come into darkness, daughter of the Chaldeans, for no more shall they call you, `Mistress of the kingdoms.'" ⁶ I was wroth over My people, and I violated My allotment, and was giving them into your hand, yet you show them no compassion. On the old you make your yoke exceedingly heavy." ⁷ Yet you are saying, `For an eon will I be mistress still!' You do not lay these things to heart; you are not mindful of your hereafter." <sup>8</sup> And now, hear this, luxuriant one, dwelling trustingly, who is saying in her heart, `I, and only I, further! I shall not sit, a widow, nor see bereavement.'" ⁹ Yet now these two shall come to you in a moment; in one day, bereavement and widowhood, suddenly they shall come on you in your many enchantments, in the staunchness of your magic charms, exceedingly." ¹⁰ And you are trusting in your knowledge. You are saying, `No one is seeing me.' Your wisdom and your knowledge, it turns you back. And you are saying in your heart, `I, and only I, further!'" ¹¹ And evil comes on you. And you are not knowing of the pitfall. And woe shall fall on you. You cannot shelter yourself from it. And coming on you is devastation, and you cannot become clear. And coming on you suddenly is futility, when you shall not know it." ¹² Then stand, pray, by your magic charms, and by your many enchantments, with which you were acquainted from your youth until today. Perhaps you can benefit! Perhaps you will be staunch!" ¹³ You are tired with your many counsels. Standing, pray, are they, and saving you are the astrologers, the seers of visions in the stars, the informers for new moons, from the things which are coming on you? ¹⁴ Behold! They all become as straw. Fire shall burn them up. They shall not rescue their soul from the hand of the blaze. It is no ember to warm them, or light to sit in front of." ¹⁵ So they become to you, those with whom you labored, your merchants from your youth. Each man strays to his passage. No saviour is yours."

⁵⁶ The tender-hearted woman among you, and the fastidious one, who would not try to put the sole of her foot on the earth because of fastidiousness and tenderness, her eye shall be evil toward the husband of her bosom and toward her son and toward her daughter, ⁵⁷ even for her afterbirth coming forth from between her feet, even for her sons whom she is bearing, for she shall eat them for lack of everything, in concealment during the siege and during the constraint with which your enemy shall constrain you in your gates.

⁸ So he took for himself a potsherd to scrape himself with it as he was sitting in the midst of ashes.

¹³ They sat with him on the earth seven days and seven nights. And there was no one speaking a word to him, for they saw that his pain was very great.

²⁷ For You Yourself shall save the humbled people, But You shall abase those whose eyes are exalted."

⁴⁴ You have caused his luster to cease, And You have toppled his throne to the earth."

⁸ Daughter of Babylon, the devastator, Happy is he who shall repay you With your dealing which you dealt to us."

²⁶ And complain and mourn shall your portals, and empty on the earth shall you sit."

¹³ Yet you, you said in your heart, "To the heavens will I ascend! Above the stars of El will I raise high my throne, and I will sit in the mount of appointment, in the flanks of the north." ¹⁴ I will ascend on the fane heights of a thick cloud; I am likening myself to the Supreme!"

¹² And saying is He, "No longer shall you continue to be joyous, extorted virgin daughter of Sidon. To Kittim! Arise! Pass! Even there, there is no stopping for you."

⁵ For he prostrates the dwellers of the height. The impregnable town, He shall lay it low. He is laying it low, unto the earth; it is attaining unto the soil."

⁹ Tranquil women, rise and hear My voice! Trusting daughters, give ear to My sayings!" ¹⁰ In days over a year shall you be disturbed, trusting women, for vanish will the vintage, the gathering will fail to come in." ¹¹ Tremble, tranquil women! Be disturbed, trusting women! Strip and be naked, with a girdle skirt on the loins!"

²² This is the word which Yahweh Elohim speaks concerning him:"She despises you! She derides you! The virgin daughter of Zion. Behind you her head wags! The daughter of Jerusalem."

⁷ Yet you are saying, `For an eon will I be mistress still!' You do not lay these things to heart; you are not mindful of your hereafter." <sup>8</sup> And now, hear this, luxuriant one, dwelling trustingly, who is saying in her heart, `I, and only I, further! I shall not sit, a widow, nor see bereavement.'" ⁹ Yet now these two shall come to you in a moment; in one day, bereavement and widowhood, suddenly they shall come on you in your many enchantments, in the staunchness of your magic charms, exceedingly."

² Shake yourself from the soil! And rise, captive Jerusalem! Unloose for yourself the bonds of your neck, captive daughter of Zion!"

¹⁸ Say to the king and to the mistress:Make yourselves low--sit still, For come down have your principalities, The crown of your beauty."

¹¹ Go up to Gilead, and take balm, O virgin daughter of Egypt, In vain you have multiplied medicines, Healing there is none for you."

¹⁸ Come down from honor, sit in thirst, O inhabitant, daughter of Dibon, For a spoiler of Moab has come up to you, He has destroyed your fenced places."

⁴² Bow and halbert they seize, Cruel [are] they, and they have no mercy, Their voice as a sea sounds, and on horses they ride, Set in array as a man for battle, Against you, O daughter of Babylon."

³³ For thus said Yahweh of Hosts, Elohim of Israel, The daughter of Babylon [is] as a threshing-floor, The time of her threshing--yet a little, And come has the time of her harvest."

¹⁰ They sit on the earth; the elders of the daughter of Zion are silent; They cast up soil on their head; they gird themselves in sackcloth; The virgins of Jerusalem bow down their head to the earth.

²¹ They lie on the earth of the streets, youth and elder, My virgins and my choice young men, they have fallen by the sword; You have killed in the day of Your anger; You have slaughtered and have not spared;"

⁵ Those who ate dainties are desolated in the streets; Those who were fostered in crimson embrace hearth dung.

¹⁶ And come down from off their thrones have all princes of the sea, And they have turned aside their robes, And their embroidered garments strip off, Trembling they put on, on the earth they sit, And they have trembled every moment, And they have been astonished at you,

¹⁷ High has been your heart, because of your beauty, You have corrupted your wisdom because of your brightness, On the earth I have cast you, Before kings I have set you, to look on you,

³ The arrogance of your heart lures you, O tabernacler in the holes of the crag. A height is his dwelling; he is saying in his heart, Who will bring me down to earth? ⁴ If you are elevated as the vulture, and if your nest is placed between the stars, thence will I bring you down (averring is Yahweh)."

⁶ And the word is touching the king of Nineveh. And he is rising from his throne and is transferring his fur robe from him, and he is covering himself with sackcloth and is sitting on ashes."

²² And I will overturn the thrones of kingdoms, and I will exterminate the steadfastness of the kingdoms of the nations, and overturn the chariot and its riders, and the horses and their riders go down, each man by the sword of his brother."

⁷ Woe, Zion! Escape, you dwellers with the daughter of Babylon."

⁷ As much as she glorifies herself and indulges, so much torment and mourning be giving her, for she is saying in her heart, 'I am sitting a queen, and am no widow, and mourning I may by no means see.'"

⁶⁵ And saying is she to the servant, "What man is this going in the field to meet us?And saying is the servant, "He is my lord.And taking is she a veil and covering herself.

⁵ And every firstborn in the land of Egypt will die, from the firstborn of Pharaoh, sitting on his throne, unto the firstborn of the maid who is behind the millstones and every firstborn of beast.

²¹ And the Philistines seize him, and pick out his eyes, and bring him down to Gaza, and bind him with two brazen fetters; and he is grinding in the prison-house.

¹⁰ May my wife grind grain for another, And may others crouch down upon her.

¹⁷ So my Lord Yahweh will abase the scalp of the daughters of Zion, and Yahweh their enticement will make naked in that day."

⁴ so shall the king of Assyria lead the captives of Egypt, and the deportation of Ethiopia, youths and elders, naked and barefoot, with bared buttock, the nakedness of Egypt."

¹¹ Tremble, tranquil women! Be disturbed, trusting women! Strip and be naked, with a girdle skirt on the loins!"

²² And when you do say in your heart, `Wherefore have these met me?' For the abundance of your iniquity Have your skirts been uncovered, Have your heels suffered violence."

²⁶ I also have made bare your skirts before your face, And your shame has been seen."

⁷ And served him have all the nations, and his son, and his son's son, till the coming in of the time of his land, also it; and done service for him have many nations and great kings."

¹³ Choice young men must bear the grinding, and youths falter under loads of wood."

³⁷ Therefore, lo, I am assembling all your lovers, To whom you have been sweet, And all whom you have loved, Besides all whom you have hated; And I have assembled them by you round about, And have revealed your nakedness to them, And they have seen all your nakedness." ³⁸ And I have judged you--judgments of adulteresses, And of women shedding blood, And have given you blood, fury, and jealousy." ³⁹ And I have given you into their hand, And they have thrown down your arch, And they have broken down your high places, And they have stript you of your garments, And they have taken your beauteous vessels, And they have left you naked and bare."

³ lest I should strip her naked and put her forth as on the day of her birth and make her as a wilderness and set her as an arid land and put her to death with thirst.

¹¹ Pass away! To you, dweller of Saphir, is naked shame! The dweller of Zaanan will not fare forth. The wailing of Beth-ezel will take from you its standpoint."

⁵ Behold Me against you, (averring is Yahweh, Elohim of hosts). I will roll your skirts over your face, and I will show the nations your nakedness, and the kingdoms your dishonor." ⁶ I will fling on you abominable things, and I will disgrace you, and I place you as a spectacle."

⁴¹ two grinding at the millstone; one is taken along and one left.

³⁵ There will be two grinding at the same place; the one shall be taken along, yet the other shall be left."

³⁵ for the day of vengeance and repayment, for the season when their foot shall slip? For the day of their calamity is near, and impending doom hurries upon them.

⁴¹ when I whet My flashing sword and My hand lays hold on judgment, I shall return vengeance to My foes, and to My haters shall I make repayment. ⁴² I shall make My arrows drunk with blood, and My sword shall devour flesh, the blood of the one mortally wounded and the captive, from the head of the enemy commanders. ⁴³ Jubilate, O heavens, together with Him, and worship Him, all the messengers of Elohim! Jubilate, O nations, with His people! For the blood of His servants shall He avenge, vengeance to His foes shall He return, and a propitiatory shelter shall He make for the ground of His people.

¹ O El of avenging, Yahweh, El of avenging, shine forth!" ² Lift Yourself up, O Judge of the earth; Turn back a requital upon the proud."

⁸ Daughter of Babylon, the devastator, Happy is he who shall repay you With your dealing which you dealt to us." ⁹ Happy is he who shall hold and shatter your unweaned children Against the crag.

¹ Draw near, you nations, to hear! And you folkstems, attend! Hear shall the earth and its fulness! The habitance and all its offspring!" ² For the wrath of Yahweh shall be on all the nations, and fury on all their host. He will doom them, and He will give them to the slaughter." ³ And their wounded shall be flung away, and from their corpses shall ascend their stink. And the mountains will melt from their blood, and the vales shall be rent and putrefied." ⁴ All the host of the heavens shall decay, and rolled up as a scroll are the heavens, and all their host shall decay as decays the leaf from the vine, and as a decaying leaf from the fig tree." ⁵ For soaked in the heavens shall be My sword. Behold! On Edom shall it descend, and on the people I doom for judgment." ⁶ The sword of Yahweh will be full of blood. It lubricates itself from the fat of lambs, and from the blood of butting rams and he-goats, from the fat of kidneys of rams. For there shall be a sacrifice to Yahweh in Bozrah, and a great slaughter in the land of Edom." ⁷ And down come the uruses with them, and the young bulls with the bulls, and their land will be soaked with blood, and their soil shall be sleek from fat." ⁸ For a day of vengeance is it for Yahweh, a year of repayments for the contention of Zion."

¹⁷ And He will put on righteousness as a coat of mail, and the helmet of salvation on His head. And he will put on the garments of vengeance for clothing, and muffle as with a robe of jealousy." ¹⁸ As requitals, so will He repay fury to His foes, a requital to His enemies, to the coastlanders a requital will He repay."

⁴ For the day of vengeance came for them, and the year of My redeemed has come." ⁵ And I am looking, and there is no helper, and I am regarding, and there is no supporter, and My own arm is saving for Me, and My fury, it supports Me!" ⁶ And I am trampling peoples in My anger. And I am making them drunk in My fury, and down to the earth am I bringing their gore."

²⁷ Slay all her kine, they go down to slaughter, Woe [is] on them, for come has their day, The time of their inspection." ²⁸ A voice of fugitives and escaped ones [Is] from the land of Babylon, To declare in Zion the vengeance of Yahweh our Elohim, The vengeance of His temple."

⁴ And fallen have the wounded in the land of the Chaldeans, And the pierced-through in her streets."

¹¹ Cleanse you the arrows, fill the shields, Stirred up has Yahweh the spirit of the kings of Madia, For against Babylon His device [is] to destroy it, For the vengeance of Yahweh it [is], The vengeance of His temple."

²⁰ An axe [are] you to me--weapons of war, And I have broken in pieces by you nations, And I have destroyed by you kingdoms, ²¹ And I have broken in pieces by you horse and its rider, And I have broken in pieces by you chariot and its charioteer, ²² And I have broken in pieces by you man and woman, And I have broken in pieces by you old and young, And I have broken in pieces by you young man and virgin, ²³ And I have broken in pieces by you shepherd and his drove, And I have broken in pieces by you husbandman and his team, And I have broken in pieces by you governors and prefects." ²⁴ And I have recompensed to Babylon, And to all inhabitants of Chaldea, All the evil that they have done in Zion, Before your eyes--an affirmation of Yahweh."

³⁴ Devoured us, crushed us, has Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon, He has set us [as] an empty vessel, He has swallowed us as a dragon, He has filled his belly with my dainties, He has driven us away." ³⁵ My wrong, and [that of] my flesh [is] on Babylon, Say does the inhabitant of Zion, And my blood [is] on the inhabitants of Chaldea, Say does Jerusalem." ³⁶ Therefore, thus said Yahweh:Lo, I am pleading your cause, And I have avenged your vengeance, And dried up its sea, and made its fountains dry."

⁵⁶ For come in against it--against Babylon--has a spoiler, And captured have been its mighty ones, Broken have been their bows, For the El of recompences--Yahweh--does certainly repay."

³⁷ Therefore, lo, I am assembling all your lovers, To whom you have been sweet, And all whom you have loved, Besides all whom you have hated; And I have assembled them by you round about, And have revealed your nakedness to them, And they have seen all your nakedness."

¹⁹ you are not avenging yourselves, beloved, but be giving place to His indignation, for it is written, Mine is vengeance! I will repay! the Lord is saying. "

³⁰ For we are acquainted with Him Who is saying, Mine is vengeance! I will repay! the Lord is saying, and again, "The Lord will be judging His people" ³¹ Fearful is it to be falling into the hands of the living God!

⁹ And when It opens the fifth seal, I perceived underneath the altar the souls of those who have been slain because of the word of God and because of the testimony which they had." ¹⁰ And they cry with a loud voice, saying, "Till when, O Owner, holy and true, art Thou not judging and avenging our blood on those dwelling on the earth?

¹⁹ And the great city came to be divided into three parts; and the cities of the nations fall. And Babylon the great is brought to remembrance in the sight of God, to give her the cup of the wine of the fury of His indignation."

⁵ for her sins were piled up to heaven, and God remembers her injuries." ⁶ Pay her as she also pays, and double the doubles, in accord with her acts. In her cup in which she blends, blend double for her." ⁷ As much as she glorifies herself and indulges, so much torment and mourning be giving her, for she is saying in her heart, 'I am sitting a queen, and am no widow, and mourning I may by no means see.'" ⁸ Therefore in one day shall her calamities be arriving; death and mourning and famine. And she shall be burned up with fire, for strong is the Lord God Who judges her."

²⁰ Make merry over her, O heaven, and ye saints and apostles and prophets, seeing that God judges by passing your sentence upon her."

¹⁴ You must not fear, worm Jacob, and death-doomed of Israel, I, I help you,'averring is Yahweh, your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel."

³ For I, Yahweh, am your Elohim, The Holy One of Israel, your Redeemer. And I give Egypt for your shelter; Ethiopia and Seba in your stead."

¹⁴ Thus says Yahweh, your Redeemer, The Holy One of Israel:"On your account I send to Babylon and I bring down the fugitives, all of them, and the Chaldeans, in ships of their jubilation."

⁶ Thus says Yahweh, King of Israel, and his Redeemer, Yahweh of hosts is His name. "I am the First and I am the Last, and apart from Me there is no Elohim."

²⁶ And I feed those tyrannizing over you with their own flesh, and as with juice, with their own blood shall they be drunk. Then all flesh shall know that I, Yahweh, am your Saviour, and your Redeemer is the Sturdy One of Jacob."

⁵ For your Possessor is your Maker. Yahweh of hosts is His name. And your Redeemer is the Holy One of Israel. The Elohim of the entire earth shall He be called.

¹¹ For Yahweh has ransomed Jacob, And redeemed him from a hand stronger than he."

³³ Thus said Yahweh of Hosts:Oppressed are the sons of Israel, And the sons of Judah together, And all their captors have kept hold on them, They have refused to send them away." ³⁴ Their Redeemer [is] strong, Yahweh of Hosts [is] His name, He does thoroughly plead their cause, So as to cause the land to rest, And He has given trouble to the inhabitants of Babylon."

⁹ The feet of His saints He keeps, And the wicked in darkness are silent, For not by power does man become mighty.

¹⁷ O Yahweh, do not let me be ashamed, For I have called out to You. Let the wicked be ashamed; Let them be still in the unseen;"

¹⁰ Relax and know that I am Elohim; I shall be exalted among the nations; I shall be exalted in the earth.

¹⁰ For the stars of the heavens are not appearing, and their constellations are not irradiating their light. Dark is the sun in its faring forth, and the moon is not brightening with its light."

¹⁹ And it comes that Babylon, the stateliest of kingdoms, the beauty, the pomp of the Chaldeans, shall be as the overturning of Sodom and Gomorrah by the Elohim." ²⁰ It shall not be indwelt permanently, nor shall anyone tabernacle there further, for generation after generation, nor shall the Arabian tent there, nor shepherds recline their flocks there."

⁴ And you lift up this proverb against the king of Babylon, and say in that day, "How ceases the exactor! Ceases the audacious city!"

²³ And I make Babylon desolate, for a tenancy of the hedgehog, with watery marshes, and I mop it with the mop of extermination,averring is Yahweh of hosts."

¹⁴ Wherefore are we sitting still? Be gathered, and we go in to the fenced cities, And we are silent there, For Yahweh our Elohim has made us silent, Yea, He causes us to drink water of gall, For we have sinned against Yahweh."

¹⁰ And I have destroyed from them the voice of rejoicing, and the voice of joy, voice of bridegroom and voice of bride, noise of millstones, and the light of lamps."

¹ How solitary sits the city once of many people! She has become like a widow who was great among nations; The chief princess among the provinces, she has become a payer of tribute."

³⁷ You, O king, are king of kings, seeing that the Eloah of the heavens grants a safeguarded kingdom to you, and might and honor and esteem." ³⁸ In every place where the sons of mortals are abiding, the animal of the field, the flyer of the heavens, and the fish of the sea, He grants into your hand. He gives you authority over them all. You are the head that is gold."

²⁰ Yet Yahweh is in His holy temple! Hist! all the earth, because of His presence!"

¹³ Hist! all flesh, in view of Yahweh, for He is roused from His holy habitation."

¹² And he is saying to him, 'Comrade, how did you enter here having no wedding apparel?' Yet he was still." ¹³ Then the king said to the servants, 'Binding his feet and hands, cast him out into outer darkness.' There shall be lamentation and gnashing of teeth."

¹³ wild billows of the sea, frothing forth their own shame; straying stars, for whom the gloom of darkness has been kept for an eon."

³ And he carries me away, in spirit, into a wilderness. And I perceived a woman sitting on a scarlet wild beast replete with names of blasphemy, and having seven heads and ten horns." ⁴ And the woman was clothed with purple and scarlet, and gilded with gold and precious stones and pearls, having a golden cup in her hand, brimming with abominations and the uncleannesses of the prostitution of her and the earth." ⁵ And on her forehead is written a name: Secret Babylon the Great the mother of the prostitutes and the abominations of the earth.

¹⁸ And the woman whom you perceived is the great city which has a kingdom over the kings of the earth."

¹⁶ saying, 'Woe! woe! the great city clothed in cambric and purple and scarlet, and gilded with gold and precious stones, and pearl, ¹⁷ for in one hour was desolated so much riches!' "And every navigator, and every one who is sailing at the place, and mariners and whoever are working on the sea, stand afar off, ¹⁸ and, observing the smoke of her conflagration, they cried, saying, 'Is there any like this great city?'" ¹⁹ And they cast soil on their heads, and cried, lamenting and mourning, saying, 'Woe! Woe! the great city, by which all who have ships on the sea are rich as a result of its preciousness, for in one hour it was desolated!'"

²¹ And one strong messenger lifts a stone, as large as a millstone, and casts it into the sea, saying that "Thus Babylon, the great city, will be hurled down, and nevermore be found in it." ²² And the sound of lyre singers and entertainers, and of flutists and trumpeters should be heard in you nevermore; and every artificer of every trade may be found in you nevermore; and the sound of a millstone should be heard in you nevermore;" ²³ and the light of a lamp may be appearing in you nevermore; and the voice of the bridegroom and bride should be heard in you nevermore; for your merchants were the magnates of the earth, for by your enchantment all nations were deceived." ²⁴ And in it the blood of prophets and of saints was found, and of all of those slain upon the earth."

⁵⁰ a nation strong of face who neither lifts the face of the old one with partiality nor is gracious to the youth.

¹⁴ And David said unto Gad, `I have great distress, let us fall, I pray you, into the hand of Yahweh, for many [are] His mercies, and into the hand of man let me not fall..

⁹ And there has been there a prophet of Yahweh (Oded [is] his name), and he goes out before the host that has come in to Samaria, and said to them, `Lo, in the fury of Yahweh Elohim of your fathers against Judah, He has given them into your hand, and you slay among them in rage--unto the heavens it has come;"

²⁶ As for You, they persecute those whom You have smitten, And they are recounting the pain of those wounded by You."

⁶ Among a nation polluted will I send him. And against a people, object of My rage, will I instruct him. To loot loot and to plunder plunder, and to place them for tramping, as the clay of the streets."

¹⁶ And their children shall be dashed to pieces before their eyes. Their houses shall be rifled, and their wives ravished."

¹⁷ He made all the habitance as a wilderness, and its cities he demolished, for his prisoners he opened not a homeward way."

²⁴ Who gives Jacob to the robber, and Israel to plunderers? Is it not Yahweh Elohim, this One against Whom they sin? Yet they are not willing to go in His ways. And they are not hearkening to His law." ²⁵ And He will pour out the fury of His anger on him, and strengthen the battle. And it will set him aflame round about. Yet he will not know that it shall consume among them. Yet they will not lay it to heart."

²⁸ And I will violate the chiefs of My holy place. And I will give Jacob to doom, and Israel to taunts."

² Yahweh has swallowed up and has not spared all the oases of Jacob; He has demolished, in His rage, the fortresses of the daughter of Judah; He made them touch the earth; He has profaned the kingdom and its chiefs."

²¹ Say to the house of Israel:Thus said the Lord Yahweh:Lo, I am polluting My sanctuary, The excellency of your strength, The desire of your eyes, and the pitied of your soul, And your sons and your daughters whom you have left, by sword they do fall."

¹⁶ By the abundance of your merchandise They have filled your midst with violence, And you do sin, And I thrust you from the mount of Elohim, And I destroy you, O covering cherub, From the midst of the stones of fire."

¹⁰ Because of wrong done to your brother Jacob, shame shall cover you, and you shall be cut off for the eon."

¹⁶ For just as you drink on My holy mountain, so shall all the nations drink turbid wine, and they shall drink and swallow absinth, and they shall become as if not having become."

¹⁵ and with great wrath am I wroth over the nations that are tranquil. When I was a little wroth, then they helped toward the evil."

² for with what judgment you are judging, shall you be judged, and with what measure you are measuring, shall it be measured to you."

¹³ For the judging is merciless to him who does not exercise mercy. Vaunting is mercy against judging.

²⁹ O that they were wise; they would proceed intelligently in this; they would understand about their latter days!

²⁵ And He will pour out the fury of His anger on him, and strengthen the battle. And it will set him aflame round about. Yet he will not know that it shall consume among them. Yet they will not lay it to heart."

⁸ Remember this and be on fire. Recall it to heart, transgressors." ⁹ Remember the first things from the eon, for I am the El, and there is no further Elohim, and the limit is as Me."

⁵ Sit still, and come into darkness, daughter of the Chaldeans, for no more shall they call you, `Mistress of the kingdoms.'"

³¹ The prophets have prophesied falsely, And the priests bear rule by their means, And My people have loved [it] so, And what do they at its latter end?

³ Now [is] the end unto you, And I have sent Mine anger upon you, And judged you according to your ways, And set against you all your abominations." ⁴ And no pity on you has Mine eye, nor do I spare, For your ways against you I do set, And your abominations are in your midst, And you have known that I [am] Yahweh." ⁵ Thus said the Lord Yahweh:Evil, a single evil, lo, it has come." ⁶ An end has come, come has the end, It has waked for you, lo, it has come." ⁷ Come has the morning unto you, O inhabitant of the land! Come has the time, near [is] a day of trouble, And not the shouting of mountains." ⁸ Now, shortly I pour out My fury on you, And have completed Mine anger against you, And judged you according to your ways, And set against you all your abominations." ⁹ And not pity does Mine eye, nor do I spare, According to your ways unto you I give, And your abominations are in your midst, And you have known that I [am] Yahweh the smiter."

² `Son of man, say to the leader of Tyre:Thus said the Lord Yahweh:Because your heart has been high, And you do say:A el I [am], The habitation of Elohim I have inhabited, In the heart of the seas, And you [are] man, and not El, And you give out your heart as the heart of Elohim,

¹² `Son of man, lift up a lamentation for the king of Tyre, And you have said to him:Thus said the Lord Yahweh:You are sealing up a measurement, Full of wisdom, and perfect in beauty." ¹³ In Eden, the garden of Elohim, you have been, Every precious stone your covering, Ruby, topaz, and diamond, beryl, onyx, and jasper, Sapphire, emerald, and carbuncle, and gold, The workmanship of your tabrets, and of your pipes, In you in the day of your being produced, have been prepared." ¹⁴ You [are] an anointed cherub who is covering, And I have set you in the holy mount, Elohim you have been, In the midst of stones of fire you have walked up and down."

³ Speak, and you have said:Thus said the Lord Yahweh:Lo, I [am] against you, Pharaoh king of Egypt! The great dragon that is crouching in the midst of his floods, Who has said, My flood [is] my own, And I--I have made it [for] myself."

²⁹ when, at the end of twelve months, he is going about on the royal palace of Babylon."

¹⁸ You, O king! The Supreme Eloah granted the kingdom and majesty and esteem and honor to Nebuchadnezzar your grandfather." ¹⁹ And from the majesty that He granted to him, all peoples, leagues, and language-groups were stirred and terrified before him. Whom he will he is despatching, and whom he will he is preserving alive; whom he will he exalts, and whom he will he abases." ²⁰ Yet when his heart was exalted and his spirit was mightily arrogant, he was deposed from the throne of his kingdom and they caused his esteem to pass away from him:" ²¹ From the sons of mortals was he shoved, his heart was made equal to an animal's and with the wild donkeys was his abode. Herbage are they feeding to him, as oxen, and by the night mist of the heavens was his frame streaked, till he knew that the Supreme Eloah is in authority in the kingdom of mortals, and whom He is willing is He setting up over it." ²² Yet you, his grandson Belshazzar, you abase not your heart in Eloah's sight, forasmuch as all this you know." ²³ Over the Lord, the Eloah of the heavens, you exalt yourself; the vessels of His house they bring hither before you; you and your grandees, your consorts and your concubines are drinking turbid wine from them. Also elohim of silver, gold, copper, iron, wood, and stone who are not perceiving and not hearing and not knowing, these you laud, yet the Eloah in Whose hand is your breath, and for Whom are all your paths, Him you do not honor."

⁷ And the five men go, and come in to Laish, and see the people which [is] in its midst, dwelling confidently, according to the custom of Zidonians, quiet and confident; and there is none putting to shame in the land in [any] thing, possessing restraint, and they [are] far off from the Zidonians, and have no word with [any] man.

²⁷ And they have taken that which Micah had made, and the priest whom he had, and come in against Laish, against a people quiet and confident, and smite them by the mouth of the sword, and the city have burnt with fire,

⁵ His ways are profane in every season. Your judgments are withdrawn from in front of him; All his foes--he puffs at them. ⁶ He says in his heart, I shall not slip at all; For generation after generation, I shall not be in peril.

⁴ My heart has strayed; shuddering frightens me. The soul to which I am attached brings me into trembling. ⁵ Arrange the table! Watch, yea, watch! Eat! Drink! Rise, chiefs! Anoint the shield!"

¹² And my Lord, Yahweh of hosts, will call for lamentation in that day, and for wailing, and for baldness, and for girding on sackcloth;" ¹³ yet behold! Elation will they make and rejoicing, killing an ox and slaying from the flock, eating flesh and drinking wine, saying, "Eat and drink, for tomorrow we will die."

⁹ Tranquil women, rise and hear My voice! Trusting daughters, give ear to My sayings!"

⁶ That they may know, from the rising of the sun and from the west, that there is a limit apart from Me. I am Yahweh Elohim, and there is none else."

¹⁸ For thus says Yahweh, Creator of the heavens; He is the Elohim, and Former of the earth, and its Maker, and He, He established it. He did not create it a chaos. He formed it to be indwelt. "I am Yahweh, and there is none else."

¹⁰ And you are trusting in your knowledge. You are saying, `No one is seeing me.' Your wisdom and your knowledge, it turns you back. And you are saying in your heart, `I, and only I, further!'"

¹¹ Because you rejoice, because you exult, O spoilers of Mine inheritance, Because you increase as a heifer [at] the tender grass, And do cry aloud as bulls,

³¹ Lo, I [am] against you, O pride, An affirmation of the Lord Yahweh of Hosts, For your day has come, the time of your inspection." ³² And stumbled has pride, And he has fallen, and has no raiser up, And I have kindled a fire in his cities, And it has devoured all round about him."

⁵³ Because Babylon goes up to the heavens, And because it fences the high place of its strength, From Me come into it do spoilers, An affirmation of Yahweh."

²² you it is, O king, seeing that you are increased and mighty, and your grandeur is increased, and reaches to the heavens, and your authority to the extremity of the earth."

³⁰ Responding is the king to all this by saying, "Is not this Babylon great that I have built to be the house of the kingdom within the might of my safeguarding walls, for the esteem of my honor!"

¹ Belshazzar the king makes a grand dinner for a thousand of his grandees and is drinking turbid wine in view of the thousand. ² When tasting the turbid wine, Belshazzar says to bring hither the gold and silver vessels of the house of Eloah which his grandfather Nebuchadnezzar had taken from the temple in Jerusalem, that they may drink from them--the king and his grandees, his consorts and his concubines." ³ Then they bring hither the gold and silver vessels which they had taken from the temple, the house of the Eloah in Jerusalem. And they drink from them--the king and his grandees, his consorts and his concubines." ⁴ They drink the turbid wine and laud the elohim of gold, silver, copper, iron, wood, and stone."

²³ Over the Lord, the Eloah of the heavens, you exalt yourself; the vessels of His house they bring hither before you; you and your grandees, your consorts and your concubines are drinking turbid wine from them. Also elohim of silver, gold, copper, iron, wood, and stone who are not perceiving and not hearing and not knowing, these you laud, yet the Eloah in Whose hand is your breath, and for Whom are all your paths, Him you do not honor."

³⁰ In the same night Belshazzar is despatched, the king of the Chaldeans. Thus the interpretation comes on Belshazzar the king:The kingdom is taken away from the Chaldeans and given to the Medes and Persians."

³⁶ Yet doing is the king as is acceptable to himself:He will exalt and magnify himself over every el, against the El of elim will he speak marvelous things and prosper till the menace is concluded; for that which is decided shall be done."

¹⁰ Though they are still as entangled briars, and as those groggy with their grog, they shall be devoured as straw fully dry."

⁵ And, indeed, seeing that the wine is treacherous; the master is ostentatious, and he is not resting, who widens his soul as the unseen, and he is as death and is not satisfied. And he is gathering to him all the nations, and he is convening to him all the peoples." ⁶ Shall not these, all of them, take up a proverb against him, and mocking problems for him? And they will say:Woe to the one increasing what is not his! Till when? And to him making heavy his yoke with security!" ⁷ Will not those biting you rise in an instant, and those stirring you into a sweat awake, that you shall become robbed goods for them? ⁸ Seeing that you loot many nations, all the rest of the peoples will loot you because of human blood and the violence to the land, to the town and all dwelling in it."

¹⁵ This is the joyous city dwelling trustingly, saying in her heart, I, and still only I! How she has become a desolation, a reclining place for the animal! Every one passing over her shall hiss and shall wag his hand."

¹⁸ And he said, 'This will I be doing: I will pull down my barns, and greater ones will I build, and I will gather there all my grain and my good things." ¹⁹ And I will be declaring to my soul, "Soul, many good things have you laid up for many years. Rest, eat, drink, make merry."'" ²⁰ Yet God said to him, 'Imprudent one! In this night your soul are they demanding from you. Now, what you make ready, whose will it be?'"

²⁷ They ate, they drank, they married, they took out in marriage, until the day on which Noah entered into the ark, and the deluge came and destroys them all." ²⁸ Likewise, according as it occurred in the days of Lot, they ate, they drank, they bought, they sold, they planted, they built." ²⁹ Yet on the day in which Lot came out from Sodom, fire and sulphur rains from heaven and destroys them all."

⁴ who is opposing and lifting himself up over everyone termed a god or an object of veneration, so that he is seated in the temple of God, demonstrating that he himself is God?

³ for, as a result of the wine of the fury of her prostitution have all the nations fallen. And the kings of the earth commit prostitution with her,and the merchants of the earth are rich as a result of her power to indulge." ⁴ And I hear another voice out of heaven, saying, "Come out of her, My people, lest you should be joint participants in her sins, and lest you should be getting of her calamities,

⁵ Then Mahlon and Chilion, both of them, also died. Thus the woman remained without her two boys and without her husband.

²⁰ She replied to them, You must not call me Naomi. Call me Mara, for He Who-Suffices has brought intense bitterness on me.

¹⁹ How they will become a desolation, as in a moment! They will be swept up; they will be finished by decadence!"

¹⁸ And with bows they are dashing the youths to pieces, and on the fruit of the belly they are not having compassion. And over the sons their eye is not commiserating." ¹⁹ And it comes that Babylon, the stateliest of kingdoms, the beauty, the pomp of the Chaldeans, shall be as the overturning of Sodom and Gomorrah by the Elohim." ²⁰ It shall not be indwelt permanently, nor shall anyone tabernacle there further, for generation after generation, nor shall the Arabian tent there, nor shepherds recline their flocks there." ²¹ Yet the animals of arid spaces will recline there, and their houses will be full of their uproar. And the ostrich will tabernacle there. And hairy creatures will dance there." ²² And falcons will respond in their citadels, and jackals in the delicate palaces. And near to come is her era, and her days shall not be protracted further."

²² And I rise against them,averring is Yahweh of hosts. "And I cut off from Babylon the name and remnant, and propagator and progeny,averring is Yahweh." ²³ And I make Babylon desolate, for a tenancy of the hedgehog, with watery marshes, and I mop it with the mop of extermination,averring is Yahweh of hosts."

¹² Then stand, pray, by your magic charms, and by your many enchantments, with which you were acquainted from your youth until today. Perhaps you can benefit! Perhaps you will be staunch!" ¹³ You are tired with your many counsels. Standing, pray, are they, and saving you are the astrologers, the seers of visions in the stars, the informers for new moons, from the things which are coming on you?

¹⁸ None is conducting her, of all the sons she bears. And no one is holding fast by her hand, of all the sons she brings up." ¹⁹ Two things, they are meeting you. Who will condole with you? The devastation and the breaking and the famine and the sword--who will comfort you?

²⁹ And shake does the land, and it is pained, For stood against Babylon have the purposes of Yahweh, To make the land of Babylon a desolation without inhabitant."

⁶² and have said:Yahweh, You, You have spoken concerning this place, to cut it off, that there is none dwelling in it, from man even unto cattle, for it is a desolation eonian." ⁶³ And it has come to pass, when you do finish reading this book, you do bind to it a stone, and have cast it into the midst of Phrat, ⁶⁴ and said, Thus sink does Babylon, and it does not arise, because of the evil that I am bringing in against it, and they have been weary.' Hitherto [are] words of Jeremiah."

² Saying is the king to call the sacred scribes and the magi and the enchanters and the Chaldeans to tell the king his dreams. Then they are coming and standing before the king.

⁷ Then went in the sacred scribes, the magi, the Chaldeans and the hieromancers, and I am stating the dream before them, yet its interpretation they did not make known to me."

⁷ Calling is the king with potency to bring in the magi, the sacred scribes, the Chaldeans, and the hieromancers. Responding is the king and saying to the wise men of Babylon that, "Any mortal who will read this writing and disclose its interpretation to me shall be clothed in purple, with a circlet of gold about his neck, and as the third one in the kingdom shall he have authority."

⁴ Because of the many prostitutions of the prostitute, good of grace and possessor of enchantments, who is selling nations by her prostitutions, and families by her enchantments."

¹² Now as He nears the gate of the city, lo! there was fetched out, being dead, an only-begotten son of his mother. And she was a widow. And a considerable throng of the city was with her." ¹³ And perceiving her, the Lord has compassion on her and said to her, "Do not lament!"

³ Now whenever they may be saying "Peace and security,then extermination is standing by them unawares, even as a pang over the pregnant, and they may by no means escape."

⁹ whose presence is in accord with the operation of Satan, with all power and signs and false miracles" ¹⁰ and with every seduction of injustice among those who are perishing, because they do not receive the love of the truth for their salvation."

²⁰ And the rest of mankind, who were not killed in these calamities, repent not of the acts of their hands- that they will not be worshiping the demons and idols of gold and silver and copper and stone and wood, which are neither able to be observing nor to be hearing nor to be walking-." ²¹ and they repent not of their murders, nor of their enchantments, nor of their prostitution, nor of their thefts."

⁸ Therefore in one day shall her calamities be arriving; death and mourning and famine. And she shall be burned up with fire, for strong is the Lord God Who judges her." ⁹ And the kings of the earth, who commit prostitution and indulge with her, will be lamenting and grieving over her whenever they may be observing the smoke of her conflagration, ¹⁰ standing afar off because of the fear of her torment, saying, 'Woe! Woe! that great city! Babylon, the strong city! for in one hour your judging came.'"

²¹ And one strong messenger lifts a stone, as large as a millstone, and casts it into the sea, saying that "Thus Babylon, the great city, will be hurled down, and nevermore be found in it." ²² And the sound of lyre singers and entertainers, and of flutists and trumpeters should be heard in you nevermore; and every artificer of every trade may be found in you nevermore; and the sound of a millstone should be heard in you nevermore;" ²³ and the light of a lamp may be appearing in you nevermore; and the voice of the bridegroom and bride should be heard in you nevermore; for your merchants were the magnates of the earth, for by your enchantment all nations were deceived."

⁸ Yet the timid, and unbelievers, and the abominable, and murderers, and paramours, and enchanters, and idolaters, and all the false-their part is in the lake burning with fire and sulphur, which is the second death."

¹⁵ Outside are curs, and enchanters, and paramours, and murderers, and idolaters, and everyone fabricating and fondling falsehood."

¹³ Yet you say, What does El know? Can He judge through murkiness? ¹⁴ Thick clouds are a concealment for Him, so that He cannot see, And He walks about the circle of the heavens.

¹¹ He says in his heart, El has forgotten; He has concealed His face; He will not see at all, permanently.

⁷ Here is the master who is not making Elohim his stronghold, And is trusting in the vastness of his riches; He is strengthening himself by his works of woe."

⁹ Common sons of Adam are only a transitory breath, Noted sons of man a lie; If brought up on the scales, They are less than a transitory breath altogether." ¹⁰ Do not trust in extortion, And in pillage, do not place vain hope; Though your estate be producing, do not set your heart on it."

⁵ They are encouraging themselves in an evil matter; They are recounting plans to bury traps; They say, Who shall see us?

⁷ They say, Yah is not seeing, And the Elohim of Jacob is not understanding." ⁸ Understand, you irrational ones among the people! And you stupid ones, when shall you act intelligently? ⁹ The One Who planted the ear, shall He not hear? Or the One Who formed the eye, shall He not look?

⁸ No man has authority over the spirit to detain the spirit, And no one has authority over the day of death; There is no dismissal in war, And wickedness shall make no way of escape for its possessor."

²¹ Woe to those wise in their own eyes, and in front of their own face have understanding!"

¹⁵ For you say, "We have contracted a covenant with death, and with the unseen we made a public treaty. The scourge overflowing that shall pass will not come on us, for we constitute a lie our refuge, and in falsehood are we concealed."

¹⁵ Woe to those digging deep, to conceal counsel from Yahweh, and it comes that their doings are in darkness. And saying are they, `Who sees us?' And `Who knows us?'"

²⁰ Grazing on ashes, a trifling heart turns him aside. And he is not rescuing his soul, nor is he saying, "Is not a falsehood in my right hand?

⁴ No one is calling in righteousness, and no one is being judged in faithfulness. They trust in chaos, and speak futility. They are pregnant with toil, and generate lawlessness."

²⁴ Is any one hidden in secret places, And I see him not? an affirmation of Yahweh, Do not I fill the heavens and the earth? An affirmation of Yahweh."

¹² And He said unto me, `Have you seen, son of man, that which elders of the house of Israel are doing in darkness, each in the inner chambers of his imagery, for they are saying, Yahweh is not seeing us, Yahweh has forsaken the land?'"

⁹ And He said unto me, `The iniquity of the house of Israel and Judah [is] very very great, and the land is full of blood, and the city has been full of perverseness, for they have said:Yahweh has forsaken the land, and Yahweh is not seeing."

² `Son of man, say to the leader of Tyre:Thus said the Lord Yahweh:Because your heart has been high, And you do say:A el I [am], The habitation of Elohim I have inhabited, In the heart of the seas, And you [are] man, and not El, And you give out your heart as the heart of Elohim, ³ Lo, you [are] wiser than Daniel, No hidden thing have they concealed from you." ⁴ By your wisdom and by your understanding You have made for you wealth, And make gold and silver in your treasuries." ⁵ By the abundance of your wisdom, Through your merchandise, You have multiplied your wealth, And high is your heart through your wealth." ⁶ Therefore, thus said the Lord Yahweh:Because of your giving out your heart as the heart of Elohim,

²² Alleging themselves to be wise, they are made stupid,

¹⁹ For it is written, I shall be destroying the wisdom of the wise, and the understanding of the intelligent shall I be repudiating." ²⁰ Where is the wise? Where is the scribe? Where is the discusser of this eon? Does not God make stupid the wisdom of this world? ²¹ For since, in fact, in the wisdom of God, the world through wisdom knew not God, God delights, through the stupidity of the heralding, to save those who are believing,

¹⁹ for the wisdom of this world is stupidity with God. For it is written, "He is clutching the wise in their craftiness."

²⁹ It came to be at midnight that Yahweh, He smote every firstborn in the land of Egypt, from the firstborn of Pharaoh, sitting on his throne, unto the firstborn of the captive who was in the house of the cistern, and every firstborn of beast. ³⁰ When Pharaoh rose by night, he and all his servants and all the Egyptians, then there came to be a great cry in all the land of Egypt, for there was no house where there was no one dead.

¹¹ And our adversaries say, `They do not know, nor see, till that we come in to their midst, and have slain them, and caused the work to cease..

²² Now understand this, you who are forgetting Eloah, Lest I should tear you to pieces, and there be no rescuer."

³⁶ And faring forth is a messenger of Yahweh and smiting in the Assyrian camp a hundred and eighty five thousand. And the king is rising early in the morning--and behold! All of them are corpses--dead!

³⁹ In their heat I make their banquets, And I have caused them to drink, so that they exult, And have slept a sleep eonian, And awake not--an affirmation of Yahweh." ⁴⁰ I cause them to go down as lambs to slaughter, As rams with he-goats." ⁴¹ How has Sheshach been captured, Yea, caught is the praise of the whole earth, How has Babylon been for an astonishment among nations." ⁴² Come up against Babylon has the sea, With a multitude of its billows it has been covered."

²⁵ Now this is the writing that is signified:MNA MNA THUQL U PHURSIN" ²⁶ and this is the interpretation of the matter:MNA, an accounting has the Eloah made of your kingdom and He balances it;" ²⁷ THUQL, weighed are you on the scales and found lacking;" ²⁸ PHURS, bisected is your kingdom and it will be granted to the Medes and Persians." ²⁹ Then, at Belshazzar's order, they clothe Daniel in purple, with a circlet of gold about his neck, and they proclaim concerning him that he is the third authority in the kingdom." ³⁰ In the same night Belshazzar is despatched, the king of the Chaldeans. Thus the interpretation comes on Belshazzar the king:The kingdom is taken away from the Chaldeans and given to the Medes and Persians."

³⁴ And, being indignant, his lord gives him up to the tormentors till he may pay all he is owing him."

⁵⁹ I am saying to you, Under no circumstances may you be coming out thence till you may be paying even the last mite."

³ Remember, then, how you have obtained, and hear; keep it and repent. If ever, then, you should not be watching, I shall be arriving on you as a thief, and under no circumstances will you be knowing what hour I shall be arriving on you."

¹¹ Pharaoh, however, called for the wise men and for the enchanters. And even they, the sacred scribes of Egypt, did so with their occultisms.

⁷ Also the sacred scribes did so with their occultisms, and they brought up frogs over the land of Egypt.

¹⁸ Now the sacred scribes did so by their occultisms so as to bring forth the lice, yet they were unable. Since there had come to be lice on human and on beast. ¹⁹ The sacred scribes said to Pharaoh: This is the finger of Elohim! Yet the heart of Pharaoh was steadfast, and he did not hearken to them just as Yahweh had spoken.

¹¹ Now the sacred scribes were unable to stand before Moses in view of the boils, for the boil came to be on the sacred scribes and on all Egypt.

¹⁹ And in case they shall say to you, "Inquire of the mediums, and of the ventriloquists, and of the wizards, the chirpers and the cooers,Should not a people of its Elohim inquire? Who inquires about the living of the dead?

³ And void is the spirit of Egypt within it, and I will swallow up its counsel. And they inquire of the forbidden idols, and of the ventriloquists, and of the mediums and of the wizards."

²⁵ Annulling the signs of the inventors of deception, and making the diviners bluster, causing the wise to return backward, and making their knowledge silly,

⁹ Yet now these two shall come to you in a moment; in one day, bereavement and widowhood, suddenly they shall come on you in your many enchantments, in the staunchness of your magic charms, exceedingly." ¹⁰ And you are trusting in your knowledge. You are saying, `No one is seeing me.' Your wisdom and your knowledge, it turns you back. And you are saying in your heart, `I, and only I, further!'"

²⁸ And where [are] your elohims, that you have made to yourself? Let them arise, if they may save you, In the time of your vexation, For--the number of your cities have been your elohims, O Judah,

⁸ Now Elymas, the "Magician(for thus is his name construed), withstood them, seeking to pervert the proconsul from the faith." ⁹ Now Saul, who is also Paul, being filled with holy spirit, looking intently at him, ¹⁰ said, "O, full of all guile and all knavery, son of the Adversary, enemy of all righteousness, will you not cease perverting the straight ways of the Lord? ¹¹ And now, lo! the hand of the Lord is on you, and you shall be blind, not observing the sun until the appointed time.Now instantly there falls on him a fog and darkness, and, going about, he sought someone to lead him by the hand." ¹² Then the proconsul, perceiving what has occurred, believes, being astonished at the teaching of the Lord."

⁹ whose presence is in accord with the operation of Satan, with all power and signs and false miracles" ¹⁰ and with every seduction of injustice among those who are perishing, because they do not receive the love of the truth for their salvation." ¹¹ And therefore God will be sending them an operation of deception, for them to believe the falsehood, ¹² that all may be judged who do not believe the truth, but delight in injustice."

⁴ And the woman was clothed with purple and scarlet, and gilded with gold and precious stones and pearls, having a golden cup in her hand, brimming with abominations and the uncleannesses of the prostitution of her and the earth." ⁵ And on her forehead is written a name: Secret Babylon the Great the mother of the prostitutes and the abominations of the earth. ⁶ And I perceive the woman, drunk with the blood of the saints and with the blood of the witnesses of Jesus. And I marvel at perceiving her. The marvel is great!"

¹⁵ So they become to you, those with whom you labored, your merchants from your youth. Each man strays to his passage. No saviour is yours."

¹⁰ By the multitude of your ways are you wearied, yet you say not `I despair.' A revival of your hand you find, therefore you do not beseech Me."

⁵⁸ Thus said Yahweh of Hosts, the wall of Babylon--The broad one--is utterly made bare, And her high gates with fire are burnt, And peoples labor in vain, And nations in fire, and have been weary!"

¹² [With] sorrows she has wearied herself, And the abundance of her scum goes not out of her, In the fire [is] her scum."

² Saying is the king to call the sacred scribes and the magi and the enchanters and the Chaldeans to tell the king his dreams. Then they are coming and standing before the king. ³ Saying is the king to them, "A dream I dream, and agitated is my spirit to know the dream." ⁴ Speaking are the Chaldeans to the king in Syriac, "O king, live for the eon! State the dream to your servants, and we will disclose the interpretation." ⁵ Answering is the king and saying to the Chaldeans, "The matter is departing from me. Should you not be making known to me the dream and its interpretation, you shall be dismembered, and the confiscation of your houses shall be promulgated." ⁶ Should you disclose the dream and its interpretation to me, gifts and a reward and great esteem shall you receive before me. Only disclose the dream and its interpretation." ⁷ They answer a second time and are saying, "The king will state the dream to his servants, then the interpretation will we disclose." ⁸ Answering is the king and saying, "I know for certain that you would gain time, forasmuch as you perceive that the matter is departing from me." ⁹ For, should you not be making the dream known to me, there is but one edict for you, as you will concoct a lying and corrupt matter to say before me, till the times are altering. Only the dream state to me, and I shall know that its interpretation you will disclose to me." ¹⁰ Answering are the Chaldeans before the king and saying, "Actually no mortal on earth can disclose the king's matter, forasmuch as any other king, grandee, or authority does not ask a matter such as this of any sacred scribe, or magus or Chaldean."

⁷ Calling is the king with potency to bring in the magi, the sacred scribes, the Chaldeans, and the hieromancers. Responding is the king and saying to the wise men of Babylon that, "Any mortal who will read this writing and disclose its interpretation to me shall be clothed in purple, with a circlet of gold about his neck, and as the third one in the kingdom shall he have authority." ⁸ Then going in are all the king's wise men, yet they can not read the writing nor make known its interpretation to the king."

¹⁵ Now brought in before me were the wise men, the magi and the hieromancers, that they shall read this writing and make known to me its interpretation. Yet they can not disclose the interpretation of the matter." ¹⁶ Yet I hear concerning you that you can interpret interpretations and untie knots. Now, if you can read the writing and make known to me its interpretation, in purple shall you be clothed, with a circlet of gold about your neck, and as the third one in the kingdom shall you have authority."

¹³ Behold, is it not from Yahweh of hosts that the peoples have labored sufficient for the fire, and the folkstems have fainted sufficient for naught?

¹³ O my Elohim, set them aside like tumbleweed, Like straw before the wind." ¹⁴ Like fire that consumes the wildwood, And like a blaze that sets the mountains aflame, ¹⁵ So pursue them with Your tempest And fill them with panic with Your sweeping whirlwind.

²⁴ Wherefore, as a straw is devoured by a tongue of fire, and chaff in a blaze is collapsing, their root as if putrefied is becoming, and their bud as dust is ascending, for they reject the law of Yahweh of hosts, and the saying of the Holy One of Israel they spurn."

¹⁷ And the Light of Israel will come to be a fire, and his Holy One to be a blaze, and it consumes and devours his spines and his buckthorns in one day,

¹⁴ And it is broken as the breaking of a potter's crock. Pounding He will not spare. And, when it has been pounded, a shard will not be found to bank a fire from glowing coals, or to bare the water from a pool."

²⁴ Indeed, they wilt when planted; indeed, they wilt when sown; indeed, a root will wilt in the earth as their set-slip. And, moreover, a breeze blows on them, and they are drying. And a tempest, as straw, is bearing them away."

² Who roused one from the sunrise? A just one; and He is calling him to His foot, and He is setting the nations before him, and over kings is he swaying. And He is giving them, as soil, to his sword, and, as straw whisked away, to his bow,

²⁵ Lo, I [am] against you, O destroying mount, An affirmation of Yahweh, That is destroying all the earth, And I have stretched out My hand against you, And I have rolled you from the rocks, And given you for a burnt mountain." ²⁶ And they take not out of you a stone for a corner, And a stone for foundations, For desolations eonian are you, An affirmation of Yahweh."

³⁰ Ceased have the mighty of Babylon to fight, They have remained in strongholds, Failed has their might, they have become woman, They have burnt her tabernacles, Broken have been her bars."

³² And the passages have been captured, And the reeds they have burnt with fire, And the men of war have been troubled."

⁷ And I have set My face against them, From the fire they have gone forth, And the fire does consume them, And you have known that I [am] Yahweh, In My setting My face against them."

⁵ As the sound of chariots on the mountain tops are they dancing along, as the sound of a blaze of fire devouring straw, as a people numerous and staunch, arranged for battle."

¹⁸ And the house of Jacob shall become a fire, and the house of Joseph a blaze, and the house of Esau for straw, and they shall flare among them and devour them. And there shall not be a survivor for the house of Esau, for Yahweh speaks."

¹ For behold! The day of Yahweh is coming, consuming as a stove, and it devours them. And all the arrogant and all doing wickedness become straw. And the coming day sets them aflame, says Yahweh of hosts, which will not leave to them root or bough."

²⁸ And do not fear those who are killing the body, yet are not able to kill the soul. Yet be fearing Him, rather, Who is able to destroy the soul as well as the body in Gehenna."

²⁶ For the Son of Mankind is about to be coming in the glory of His Father, with His messengers, and then He will be paying each in accord with his practice."

²¹ And one strong messenger lifts a stone, as large as a millstone, and casts it into the sea, saying that "Thus Babylon, the great city, will be hurled down, and nevermore be found in it."

¹¹ and curs strongly soulish. No satisfaction do they know. And they are evil. They do not know to understand. All of them face to their own way, each man for his own gain, for his own end."

⁶ Flee you from the midst of Babylon, And deliver you each his soul, Be not cut off in its iniquity, For a time of vengeance it [is] to Yahweh, Recompence He is rendering to her." ⁷ A golden cup [is] Babylon in the hand of Yahweh, Making drunk all the earth, Of its wine drunk have nations, Therefore boast themselves do nations." ⁸ Suddenly has Babylon fallen, Yea, it is broken, howl you for it, Take balm for her pain, if so be it may be healed." ⁹ We healed Babylon, and she was not healed, Forsake her, and we go, each to his land, For come unto the heavens has its judgment, And it has been lifted up unto the clouds."

¹² Tarshish [is] your merchant, Because of the abundance of all wealth, For silver, iron, tin, and lead, They have given out your remnants." ¹³ Javan, Tubal, and Meshech--they [are] your merchants, For persons of men, and vessels of brass, They have given out your merchandise." ¹⁴ They of the house of Togarmah, [For] horses, and riding steeds, and mules, They have given out your remnants." ¹⁵ Sons of Dedan [are] your merchants, Many isles [are] the mart of your hand, Horns of ivory and ebony they sent back your reward." ¹⁶ Aram [is] your merchant, Because of the abundance of your works, For emerald, purple, and embroidery, And fine linen, and coral, and agate, They have given out your remnants." ¹⁷ Judah and the land of Israel--they [are] your merchants, For wheat of Minnith, and Pannag, And honey, and oil, and balm, They have given out your merchandise." ¹⁸ Damascus [is] your merchant, For the abundance of your works, Because of the abundance of all wealth, For wine of Helbon, and white wool." ¹⁹ Vedan and Javan go about with your remnants, They have given shining iron, cassia, and cane, In your merchandise it has been." ²⁰ Dedan [is] your merchant, For clothes of freedom for riding." ²¹ Arabia, and all princes of Kedar, They [are] the traders of your hand, For lambs, and rams, and he-goats, In these your merchants." ²² Merchants of Sheba and Raamah--they [are] your merchants, For the chief of all spices, And for every precious stone, and gold, They have given out your remnants." ²³ Haran, and Canneh, and Eden, merchants of Sheba, Asshur--Chilmad--[are] your merchants, ²⁴ They [are] your merchants for perfect things, For wrappings of blue, and embroidery, And for treasuries of rich apparel, With cords bound and girded, for your merchandise, ²⁵ Ships of Tarshish [are] your double walls of your merchandise, And you are filled and honored greatly, In the heart of the seas."

¹¹ And the merchants of the earth are lamenting and mourning over her, for no one is buying their cargo any longer:" ¹² a cargo of gold, and of silver, and of precious stones, and of pearls; and of cambric, and of purple, and of silk, and of scarlet; including also every kind of citron wood; and every ivory utensil, and every utensil of most valuable wood and of copper and of iron and of marble;" ¹³ including also cinnamon, and ginger, and incenses, and attar, and frankincense; and wine, and oil, and flour, and grain; and beasts, and sheep, and made up of horses, and of coaches, and of bodies, including also human souls." ¹⁴ And the fruition of your yearning soul passed away from you, and all that is sumptuous and splendid perished from you, and they will be finding them no longer under any circumstances.'" ¹⁵ The merchants of these things, who are rich through her, will be standing afar off because of the fear of her torment, lamenting and mourning,
