³² `And now, O our Elohim--El, the great, the mighty, and the fearful, keeping the covenant and the kindness--let not all the travail that has found us be little before You, for our kings, for our heads, and for our priests, and for our prophets, and for our fathers, and for all Your people, from the days of the kings of Asshur unto this day;"

¹⁸ And if, after these things, you should not hearken to Me, then I will continue to discipline you sevenfold for your sins.

²¹ If you go contrary to Me and are not willing to hearken to Me, then I will add smitings to you sevenfold according to your sins.

²⁴ then I will, indeed, go contrary to you, and I Myself will even smite you sevenfold for your sins.

²⁸ then I will go contrary to you in fury. And I Myself, indeed, will discipline you sevenfold for your sins.

⁹ Then know that Yahweh your Elohim, He is the One Elohim, the El, Who is faithful, keeping the covenant and the kindness to those loving Him and to those observing His instructions for a thousand generations,

²¹ You shall not be terrified because of their presence, since Yahweh your Elohim is among you, an El great and fear-inspiring.

²³ and said, `Yahweh, Elohim of Israel, there is not an Elohim like You, in the heavens above, and on the earth beneath, keeping the covenant and the kindness for Your servants, those walking before You with all their heart,

¹⁹ Pul king of Asshur has come against the land, and Menahem gives to Pul a thousand talents of silver, for his hand being with him to strengthen the kingdom in his hand.

²⁹ In the days of Pekah king of Israel has Tiglath-Pileser king of Asshur come, and takes Ijon, and Abel-Beth-Maachah, and Janoah, and Kedesh, and Hazor, and Gilead, and Galilee, all the land of Naphtali, and removes them to Asshur.

³ against him came up Shalmaneser king of Asshur, and Hoshea is to him a servant, and does render to him a present.

²⁹ In his days has Pharaoh-Nechoh king of Egypt come up against the king of Asshur, by the river Phrat, and king Josiah goes out to meet him, and he puts him to death in Megiddo, when he sees him.

³³ and Pharaoh-Nechoh binds him in Riblah, in the land of Hamath, from reigning in Jerusalem, and he puts a fine on the land--a hundred talents of silver, and a talent of gold. ³⁴ And Pharaoh-Nechoh causes Eliakim son of Josiah to reign instead of Josiah his father, and turns his name to Jehoiakim, and Jehoahaz he has taken away, and he comes in to Egypt, and dies there.

⁷ And the sons of Zedekiah they have slaughtered before his eyes, and the eyes of Zedekiah he has blinded, and binds him with brazen fetters, and they bring him to Babylon.

¹⁸ And the chief of the executioners takes Seraiah the head priest, and Zephaniah the second priest, and the three keepers of the threshold, ¹⁹ and out of the city he has taken a certain eunuch who is appointed over the men of war, and five men of those seeing the king's face who have been found in the city, and the head scribe of the host, who musters the people of the land, and sixty men of the people of the land who are found in the city, ²⁰ and Nebuzaradan chief of the executioners takes them, and causes them to go unto the king of Babylon, to Libnah, ²¹ and the king of Babylon smites them, and puts them to death in Riblah, in the land of Hamath, and he removes Judah from off its land.

²⁵ And it comes to pass, in the seventh month, come has Ishmael son of Nathaniah, son of Elishama of the seed of the kingdom, and ten men with him, and they smite Gedaliah, and he dies, and the Jews and the Chaldeans who have been with him in Mizpah. ²⁶ And all the people rise, from small even unto great, and the heads of the forces, and come in to Egypt, for they have been afraid of the presence of the Chaldeans.

¹ And the people of the land take Jehoahaz son of Josiah, and cause him to reign instead of his father in Jerusalem. ² A son of three and twenty years [is] Jehoahaz in his reigning, and three months he has reigned in Jerusalem, ³ and turn him aside does the king of Egypt in Jerusalem, and fines the land a hundred talents of silver, and a talent of gold;" ⁴ and the king of Egypt causes Eliakim his brother to reign over Judah and Jerusalem, and turns his name to Jehoiakim; and Jehoahaz his brother has Necho taken, and brings him in to Egypt. ⁵ A son of twenty and five years [is] Jehoiakim in his reigning, and eleven years he has reigned in Jerusalem, and he does the evil thing in the eyes of Yahweh his Elohim;" ⁶ against him has Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon come up, and binds him in brazen fetters to take him away to Babylon. ⁷ And of the vessels of the house of Yahweh has Nebuchadnezzar brought in to Babylon, and puts them in his temple in Babylon. ⁸ And the rest of the matters of Jehoiakim, and his abominations that he has done, and that which is found against him, lo, they are written on the book of the kings of Israel and Judah, and reign does Jehoiachin his son in his stead. ⁹ A son of eight years is Jehoiachin in his reigning, and three months and ten days he has reigned in Jerusalem, and he does the evil thing in the eyes of Yahweh;" ¹⁰ and at the turn of the year has king Nebuchadnezzar sent and brings him in to Babylon, with the desirable vessels of the house of Yahweh, and causes Zedekiah his brother to reign over Judah and Jerusalem. ¹¹ A son of twenty and one years [is] Zedekiah in his reigning, and eleven years he has reigned in Jerusalem;" ¹² and he does the evil thing in the eyes of Yahweh his Elohim, he has not been humbled before Jeremiah the prophet [speaking] from the mouth of Yahweh;" ¹³ and also, against king Nebuchadnezzar he has rebelled, who had caused him to swear by Elohim, and he hardens his neck, and strengthens his heart, against turning back unto Yahweh, Elohim of Israel. ¹⁴ Also, all the heads of the priests, and the people, having multiplied to commit a trespass according to all the abominations of the nations, and they defile the house of Yahweh that He has sanctified in Jerusalem. ¹⁵ And Yahweh, Elohim of their fathers, sends unto them by the hand of His messengers--rising early and sending--for He has had pity on His people, and on His habitation, ¹⁶ and they are mocking at the messengers of Elohim, and despising His words, and acting deceitfully with His prophets, till the going up of the fury of Yahweh against His people--till there is no healing. ¹⁷ And He causes to go up against them the king of the Chaldeans, and he slays their chosen ones by the sword in the house of their sanctuary, and has had no pity on young man and virgin, old man and very aged--the whole He has given into his hand. ¹⁸ And all the vessels of the house of Elohim, the great and the small, and the treasures of the house of Yahweh, and the treasures of the king and of his princes--the whole he has brought in to Babylon. ¹⁹ And they burn the house of Elohim, and break down the wall of Jerusalem, and all its palaces they have burnt with fire, and all its desirable vessels--to destruction. ²⁰ And he removes those left of the sword unto Babylon, and they are to him and to his sons for servants, till the reigning of the kingdom of Persia, ²¹ to fulfil the word of Yahweh in the mouth of Jeremiah, till the land has enjoyed its sabbaths; all the days of the desolation it kept sabbath--to the fulness of seventy years. ²² And in the first year of Cyrus king of Persia, at the completion of the word of Yahweh in the mouth of Jeremiah, has Yahweh waked up the spirit of Cyrus king of Persia, and he causes an intimation to pass over into all his kingdom, and also in writing, saying, ²³ `Thus said Cyrus king of Persia, All kingdoms of the earth has Yahweh, Elohim of the heavens, given to me, and He has laid a charge on me to build to Him a house in Jerusalem, that [is] in Judah; who is among you of all His people? Yahweh his Elohim [is] with him, and he does go up..

¹³ After all that has come over us because of our evil deeds and our great guilt--though You, O our Elohim, have kept back, punishing us less than our depravity deserves, and You have given us a deliverance, such as this-.

⁵ And I say, `I beseech you, O Yahweh, Elohim of the heavens, El, the great and the fearful, keeping the covenant and kindness for those loving Him, and for those keeping His commands,

² For Yahweh the Supreme is fear inspiring The great King over the entire earth.

³ Say to Elohim, How fear inspiring are Your doings! Because of the vastness of Your strength Your enemies shall cower before You."

⁵ Come and see the deeds of Elohim; Fear inspiring is His activity on behalf of the sons of humanity.

¹⁷ And Yahweh will bring on you, and on your people, and on the house of your father, days which have not come since the day Ephraim withdrew from Judah--the king of Assyria!" ¹⁸ And it comes in that day, Yahweh shall hiss for the gadfly which is at the end of the waterways of Egypt, and for the bee which is in the land of Assyria."

⁷ wherefore, also, behold! My Lord is bringing up over them the waters of the stream, the staunch and the vast--the king of Assyria and all his glory. And up it goes over all its channels, and goes over all its banks." ⁸ And it passes on into Judah, overflows and passes till it will touch the neck. And its outstretched wings come to fill the width of your land. Emmanu-El."

⁵ Woe, Assyria! Club of My anger! And a rod! He, in their hand, is My menace!" ⁶ Among a nation polluted will I send him. And against a people, object of My rage, will I instruct him. To loot loot and to plunder plunder, and to place them for tramping, as the clay of the streets." ⁷ Yet he, not so is he planning, and his heart, not so is devising, for to exterminate is in his heart, and to cut off nations not a few."

¹ Now it is coming, in the fourteenth year of King Hezekiah, that up comes Sennacherib, king of Assyria, against all the defended cities of Judah, and is taking them." ² And the king of Assyria is sending the grand cupbearer from Lachish to Jerusalem to King Hezekiah, with a very heavy army. And he is standing in the trench of the uppermost reservoir, in the highway of the field of the launderer." ³ And faring forth to him is Eliakim, son of Hilkiah, who is over the household, and Shebna, the scribe, and Joah, son of Asaph, the recorder." ⁴ And saying to them is the grand cupbearer, "Say, pray, to Hezekiah, `Thus says the great king, the king of Assyria, "What trust is this in which you trust? <sup>5</sup> You say, yea, a word of the lips, `Counsel and mastery for war.' Now, on whom do you trust, that you revolt against me? ⁶ Behold! You trust on a staff, this bruised reed, on Egypt, which, when a man is supported by it, then it enters into his palm and pierces it. So is Pharaoh, king of Egypt, to all those trusting in him." ⁷ `"And, in case you are saying to me, `In Yahweh, our Elohim, we trust,' is it not He Whose fane heights and altars Hezekiah took away when he is saying to Judah and to Jerusalem, `Before this altar shall you worship in Jerusalem'"? <sup>8</sup> `And now, pray, give hostages to my lord, the king of Assyria, and I will give to you two thousand horses, if you can put your riders on them." ⁹ Then how will you reverse the face of one viceroy of my lord's small servants? Yet you yourself are trusting on Egypt for chariots and for horsemen. ¹⁰ `And now, apart from Yahweh, did I come up against this land to ruin it? Yahweh said to me, "Go up to this land to ruin it."'" <sup>11</sup> And saying are Eliakim, and Shebna and Joah to the grand cupbearer, "Speak, pray, with your servants, with us in Syrian, for we have hearers, and you must not speak these words to us in Jewish. And why are you speaking in the ears of the people, these mortals who are sitting on the wall? <sup>12</sup> Yet saying is the grand cupbearer, "Is it to your lord and to you that my lord sends me to speak these words? Not to the mortals sitting on the wall, that shall eat their own excrement and drink their urine, with you? <sup>13</sup> And the grand cupbearer is standing and calling in a loud voice in Jewish, and saying, "Hear the words of the great king, the king of Assyria." <sup>14</sup> Thus saith the king of Assyria, `Hezekiah must not lure you by words, for he cannot rescue you." ¹⁵ Nor must Hezekiah make you trust in Yahweh, by saying, "Rescue, yea rescue us will Yahweh, and this city shall not be given into the hand of the king of Assyria." ¹⁶ You must not hearken to Hezekiah.' "For thus says the king of Assyria, `Make of me a blessing, and fare forth to me, and eat, each man of his vine and each man of his fig tree, and drink, each man the waters of his cistern, ¹⁷ till I come and take you to a land as your land, to a land of grain and grape juice, a land of bread and vineyards, a land of olives, fresh oil and honey, and you shall live and not die. And you must not be hearkening to Hezekiah, ¹⁸ lest Hezekiah shall incite you, saying, "Yahweh will rescue you.Did the elohim of the nations rescue any man's land from the hand of the king of Assyria? ¹⁹ Where are the elohim of Hamath and Arphad? Where are the elohim of Sepharvaim, Hena and Ivah? And where are the elohim of the land of Samaria? And when have they rescued Samaria from my hand? ²⁰ Which, among all the elohim of these lands, have rescued their land from my hand, assuring you that Yahweh will rescue Jerusalem from my hand?'" ²¹ Yet they are silent, and do not answer him a word, for it is the instruction of the king, saying, "You shall not answer him." ²² And coming are Eliakim, son of Hilkiah, who is over the household, and Shebna, the scribe, and Joah, son of Asaph, the recorder, to Hezekiah, with torn garments, and they are telling him the words of the grand cupbearer."

¹ At that time, an affirmation of Yahweh, They bring the bones of the kings of Judah, And the bones of its princes, And the bones of the priests, And the bones of the prophets, And the bones of inhabitants of Jerusalem, Out of their graves, ² And have spread them to sun, and to moon, And to all the host of the heavens, that they have loved, And that they have served, And that they have walked after, And that they have sought, And to which they have bowed themselves, They are not gathered, nor buried, They are for dung on the face of the ground." ³ And chosen is death rather than life By all the remnant who are left of this evil family, In all the remaining places, whither I have driven them, An affirmation of Yahweh of Hosts."

¹⁸ Therefore, thus said Yahweh concerning Jehoiakim son of Josiah king of Judah:They do not lament for him, Ah, my brother, and Ah, sister, They do not lament for him, Ah, lord, and Ah, his honor." ¹⁹ The burial of an ass--he is buried, Dragged and cast out thence to the gates of Jerusalem."

¹⁹ heads of Judah, and heads of Jerusalem, the officers, and the priests, and all the people of the land those passing through between the pieces of the calf--" ²⁰ yea, I have given them into the hand of their enemies, and into the hand of those seeking their soul, and their carcase has been for food to the fowl of the heavens, and to the beast of the earth." ²¹ `And Zedekiah king of Judah, and his heads, I give into the hand of their enemies, and into the hand of those seeking their soul, and into the hand of the forces of the king of Babylon, that are going up from off you." ²² Lo, I am commanding--an affirmation of Yahweh--and have brought them back unto this city, and they have fought against it, and captured it, and burned it with fire, and the cities of Judah I do make a desolation--without inhabitant.'"

¹ In the ninth year of Zedekiah king of Judah, in the tenth month, come has Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon and all his force unto Jerusalem, and they lay siege against it;" ² in the eleventh year of Zedekiah, in the fourth month, in the ninth of the month, has the city been broken up;" ³ and come in do all the heads of the king of Babylon, and they sit at the middle gate, Nergal-Sharezer, Samgar-Nebo, Sarsechim, chief of the eunuchs, Nergal-Sharezer, chief of the Mages, and all the rest of the heads of the king of Babylon." ⁴ And it comes to pass, when Zedekiah king of Judah, and all the men of war, have seen them, that they flee and go forth by night from the city, the way of the king's garden, through the gate between the two walls, and he goes forth the way of the plain." ⁵ And the forces of the Chaldeans pursue after them, and overtake Zedekiah in the plains of Jericho, and they take him, and bring him up unto Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, to Riblah, in the land of Hamath, and he speaks with him--judgments." ⁶ And the king of Babylon slaughters the sons of Zedekiah, in Riblah, before his eyes, yea, all the freemen of Judah has the king of Babylon slaughtered." ⁷ And the eyes of Zedekiah he has blinded, and he binds him with brazen fetters, to bring him in to Babylon." ⁸ And the house of the king, and the house of the people, have the Chaldeans burnt with fire, and the walls of Jerusalem they have broken down." ⁹ And the remnant of the people who are left in the city, and those falling who have fallen to him, and the remnant of the people who are left, has Nebuzar-Adan, chief of the executioners, removed [to] Babylon." ¹⁰ And of the poor people, who have nothing, has Nebuzar-Adan, chief of the executioners, left in the land of Judah, and he gives to them vineyards and fields on the same day." ¹¹ And Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon gives a charge concerning Jeremiah, by the hand of Nebuzar-Adan, chief of the executioners, saying, ¹² `Take him, and place your eyes upon him, and do no evil thing to him, but as he speaks unto you, so do with him.'" <sup>13</sup> And Nebuzar-Adan, chief of the executioners sends, and Nebushazban, chief of the eunuchs, and Nergal-Sharezer, chief of the Mages, and all the chiefs of the king of Babylon;" <sup>14</sup> yea, they send and take Jeremiah out of the court of the prison, and give him unto Gedaliah son of Ahikam, son of Shaphan, to carry him home, and he dwells in the midst of the people." <sup>15</sup> And unto Jeremiah has a word of Yahweh been--in his being detained in the court of the prison--saying: <sup>16</sup> `Go, and you have spoken to Ebed-Melech the Cushite, saying:Thus said Yahweh of Hosts, Elohim of Israel:Lo, I am bringing in My words unto this city for evil, and not for good, and they have been before you in that day." ¹⁷ And I have delivered you in that day--an affirmation of Yahweh--and you are not given into the hand of the men of whose face you are afraid, ¹⁸ for I do certainly deliver you, and by sword you fall not, and your life has been to you for a spoil, for you have trusted in Me--an affirmation of Yahweh.'"

¹ A son of twenty and one years [is] Zedekiah in his reigning, and eleven years he has reigned in Jerusalem, and the name of his mother [is] Hamutal daughter of Jeremiah of Libnah." ² and he does the evil thing in the eyes of Yahweh, according to all that Jehoiakim has done, ³ for, because of the anger of Yahweh, it has been in Jerusalem and Judah till He has cast them from before His face, and Zedekiah does rebel against the king of Babylon." ⁴ And it comes to pass, in the ninth year of his reign, in the tenth month, in the tenth of the month, come has Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon--he and all his force--against Jerusalem, and they encamp against it, and build against it a fortification round about;" ⁵ and the city comes into siege till the eleventh year of king Zedekiah. ⁶ In the fourth month, in the ninth of the month, when the famine is severe in the city, and there has been no bread for the people of the land, ⁷ then is the city broken up, and all the men of war flee, and go forth from the city by night, the way of the gate between the two walls, that [is] by the king's garden--and the Chaldeans [are] by the city round about--and they go the way of the plain." ⁸ And the forces of the Chaldeans pursue after the king, and overtake Zedekiah in the plains of Jericho, and all his forces have been scattered from him, ⁹ and they capture the king, and bring him up unto the king of Babylon to Riblah, in the land of Hamath, and he speaks with him--judgments." ¹⁰ And the king of Babylon slaughters the sons of Zedekiah before his eyes, and also all the princes of Judah has he slaughtered in Riblah;" ¹¹ and the eyes of Zedekiah he has blinded, and he binds him in brazen fetters, and the king of Babylon brings him to Babylon, and puts him in the house of inspection unto the day of his death." ¹² And in the fifth month, in the tenth of the month--it [is] the nineteenth year of king Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon--come has Nebuzar-Adan, chief of the executioners; he has stood before the king of Babylon in Jerusalem, ¹³ and he burns the house of Yahweh, and the house of the king, and all the houses of Jerusalem, even every great house he has burned with fire, ¹⁴ and all the walls of Jerusalem round about broken down have all the forces of the Chaldeans that [are] with the chief of the executioners. ¹⁵ And of the poor of the people, and the remnant of the people who are left in the city, and those who are falling away, who have fallen unto the king of Babylon, and the remnant of the multitude, has Nebuzar-Adan chief of the executioners, removed;" ¹⁶ and of the poor of the land has Nebuzar-Adan, chief of the executioners, left for vine-dressers and for husbandmen." ¹⁷ And the pillars of brass that [are] to the house of Yahweh, and the bases, and the brasen sea that [is] in the house of Yahweh, have the Chaldeans broken, and they bear away all the brass of them to Babylon;" ¹⁸ and the pots, and the shovels, and the snuffers, and the bowls, and the spoons, and all the vessels of brass with which they minister, they have taken away;" ¹⁹ and the basins, and the fire-pans, and the bowls, and the pots, and the candlesticks, and the spoons, and the cups, the gold of that which [is] gold, and the silver of that which [is] silver, has the chief of the executioners taken." ²⁰ The two pillars, the one sea, and the twelve brazen oxen that [are] beneath the bases, that king Solomon made for the house of Yahweh, there was no weighing of the brass of all these vessels." ²¹ As to the pillars, eighteen cubits [is] the height of the one pillar, and a cord of twelve cubits does compass it, and its thickness [is] four fingers hollow." ²² And the chapiter upon it [is] of brass, and the height of the one chapiter [is] five cubits, and net-work and pomegranates [are] on the chapiter round about, the whole [is] of brass; and like these have the second pillar, and pomegranates." ²³ And the pomegranates are ninety and six on a side, all the pomegranates [are] a hundred on the net-work round about." ²⁴ And the chief of the executioners takes Seraiah the head priest, and Zephaniah the second priest, and the three keepers of the threshold, ²⁵ and out of the city he has taken a certain eunuch, who has been inspector over the men of war, and seven men of those seeing the king's face, who have been found in the city, and the head scribe of the host, who musters the people of the land, and sixty men of the people of the land, who are found in the midst of the city;" ²⁶ and Nebuzar-Adan, chief of the executioners, takes them, and brings them unto the king of Babylon to Riblah, ²⁷ and the king of Babylon smites them, and puts them to death in Riblah, in the land of Hamath, and he removes Judah from off its own ground." ²⁸ This [is] the people whom Nebuchadrezzar has removed:in the seventh year, of Jews, three thousand and twenty and three;" ²⁹ in the eighteenth year of Nebuchadrezzar--from Jerusalem, souls, eight hundred thirty and two;" ³⁰ in the three and twentieth year of Nebuchadrezzar, has Nebuzar-Adan chief of the guard removed of Jewish souls, seven hundred forty and five; all the souls [are] four thousand and six hundred." ³¹ And it comes to pass, in the thirty and seventh year of the removal of Jehoiachin king of Judah, in the twelfth month, in the twenty and fifth of the month, has Evil-Merodach king of Babylon lifted up, in the year of his reign, the head of Jehoiachin king of Judah, and brings him out from the house of restraint, ³² and speaks with him good things, and sets his throne above the throne of the kings who [are] with him in Babylon, ³³ and he has changed his prison garments, and he has eaten bread before him continually, all the days of his life." ³⁴ And his allowance--a continual allowance--has been given to him by the king of Babylon, the matter of a day in its day, till the day of his death--all days of his life."

⁴ I am praying to Yahweh my Elohim and am confessing and saying, "Oh, my Lord the El, great and fearful, Keeper of the covenant and the kindness for those loving Him and keeping His instructions:"

⁶ We do not hearken to Thy servants the prophets, who speak in Thy name to our kings, our chiefs, our forefathers and to all the people of the land."

⁸ To Thee, Yahweh, is righteousness, yet to us is shamefacedness:To our kings, to our chiefs, to our forefathers, who sin against Thee."

¹⁸ Who is an El as You are, bearing with depravity, and passing over transgression, for the remnant of His allotment? He does not hold fast His anger for the future. For He delights in kindness." ¹⁹ He will return, having compassion on us. He will subdue our depravities. And You wilt fling into the shadowy depths of the sea all our sins." ²⁰ You wilt render the truth to Jacob, the kindness to Abraham, which You swear to our forefathers from days aforetime."
