²⁵ Israel took all these cities. Israel also dwelt in all the cities of the Amorite, in Heshbon and in all its outskirts,

³¹ When Israel dwelt in the land of the Amorite,

³³ So Moses gave to them, to the sons of Gad and to the sons of Reuben and to the half tribe of Manasseh son of Joseph, the kingdom of Sihon king of the Amorite and the kingdom of Og king of Bashan, the land belonging to its cities within its territories and the cities of the land around. ³⁴ The sons of Gad rebuilt Dibon, Ataroth, Aroer, ³⁵ Atroth-shophan, Jazer, Jogbehah, ³⁶ Beth-nimran and Beth-haran as fortress cities or stone dikes for flocks. ³⁷ As for the sons of Reuben, they rebuilt Heshbon, Elealeh, Kiriathaim, ³⁸ as well as Nebo and Baal-meon (turned around in name), and Sibmah; for they called the names of the cities which they rebuilt by their own names. ³⁹ The sons of Machir son of Manasseh went to Gilead; they seized it and evicted the Amorite who was in it. ⁴⁰ So Moses gave Gilead to Machir son of Manasseh, and he dwelt in it. ⁴¹ As for Jair son of Manasseh, he went and seized their settlements and called them Havvoth-jair. ⁴² As for Nobah, he went and seized Kenath and its outskirts. And he called it Nobah by his own name.

¹² And the Horites dwelt beforetime in Seir, yet the sons of Esau tenanted in their place and exterminated them before their face that they might dwell in their stead, just as Israel did to the land of its tenancy that Yahweh had given to them..

⁴ Your neck is like a tower of ivory. Your eyes are like reservoirs in Heshbon by the gate of Bath-rabbim; Your nose is like the tower of Lebanon, watching the face of Damascus."

⁴ And crying out is Heshbon and Elealeh, unto Jahaz their voice is heard. Therefore those liberated for war in Moab are shouting. Its soul is feeling evil to him."

⁸ over the plantations of Heshbon. Enfeebled is the vine of Sibmah. The swallowers of nations have hammered down its vines. They touched unto Jazer. They have strayed into the wilderness. Its runners are let go. They pass the sea. ⁹ Therefore, I will lament with the lamentation of Jazer, for the vine of Sibmah. I will soak you with my tears, Heshbon and Elealeh, for, on your summer and on your harvest, devastation falls."

² There is no more praise of Moab, In Heshbon they devised against it evil:Come, and we cut it off from [being] a nation, Also, O Madmen, you are cut off, After you goes a sword."

³⁴ Because of the cry of Heshbon unto Elealeh, Unto Jahaz they have given their voice, From Zoar unto Horonaim, A heifer of the third [year], For even waters of Nimrim become desolations."

⁴⁵ In the shadow of Heshbon stood powerless have fugitives, For fire has gone forth from Heshbon, And a flame from within Sihon, And it consumes the corner of Moab, And the crown of the sons of Shaon."

⁴⁶ And your elder sister [is] Samaria, she and her daughters, Who is dwelling at your left hand, And your younger sister, who is dwelling on your right hand, [is] Sodom and her daughters."

⁴⁹ Lo, this has been the iniquity of Sodom your sister, Arrogancy, fulness of bread, and quiet ease, Have been to her and to her daughters, And the hand of the afflicted and needy She has not strengthened."

⁵³ And I have turned back [to] their captivity, The captivity of Sodom and her daughters, And the captivity of Samaria and her daughters, And the captivity of your captives in their midst,

¹⁰ I brought you up from the land of Egypt, and I am conducting you in the wilderness forty years, to tenant the land of the Amorite."
