²⁸ Then they led Jesus from Caiaphas to the Praetorium, and it was early morning. But they did not enter the Praetorium themselves, so that they might not be defiled, but might eat the Passover.

²³ "Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you pay tithe of mint and dill and cummin, and have neglected the weightier matters of the Law, justice and mercy and faith. These you ought to have done, without neglecting the others. ²⁴ You blind guides, who strain out a gnat and swallow a camel! ²⁵ "Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you cleanse the outside of the cup and of the dish, but inside they are full of extortion and self-indulgence. ²⁶ Blind Pharisee! ¹ When morning came, all the chief priests and the elders of the people took counsel against Jesus to put him to death. ² And they bound him, and led him away and delivered him to Pilate the governor. ³ When Judas, his betrayer, saw that he was condemned, he repented and brought back the thirty pieces of silver to the chief priests and the elders, ⁴ saying, "I have sinned by betraying innocent blood." And they said, "What is that to us? You see to it!" ⁵ Then he threw down the pieces of silver in the temple and departed, and went and hanged himself. ⁶ But the chief priests took the silver pieces and said, "It is not lawful to put them into the treasury, since they are the money of blood." ⁷ So they took counsel, and bought with them the potter's field, to bury strangers in. ⁸ Therefore that field has been called the Field of Blood to this day. ⁹ Then was fulfilled what was spoken by Jeremiah the prophet, saying, "And they took the thirty pieces of silver, the price of him on whom a price had been set by some of the sons of Israel, ¹⁰ and they gave them for the potter's field, as the Lord directed me."

²⁷ Then the soldiers of the governor took Jesus into the Praetorium and gathered the whole garrison around him.

¹ Very early in the morning, the chief priests held a consultation with the elders and scribes and the whole council; and they bound Jesus, led him away, and delivered him to Pilate. ² Then Pilate asked him, "Are you the King of the Jews?" And he answered him, "It is as you say." ³ And the chief priests accused him of many things. ⁴ And Pilate again asked him, "Have you no answer to make? See how many things they bring against you." ⁵ But Jesus still made no answer, so that Pilate was amazed.

¹⁶ The soldiers led him away into the palace (that is, the Praetorium) and they called together the whole battalion.

⁶⁶ As soon as it was day, the council of the elders of the people came together, both chief priests and scribes; and they led him away to their council chamber, saying,

¹ Then the whole body of them arose and led him to Pilate. ² And they began to accuse him, saying, "We found this man perverting our nation and forbidding to pay taxes to Caesar, saying that he himself is Christ, a king." ³ So Pilate asked him, "Are you the King of the Jews?" He answered him, "It is as you say." ⁴ Then Pilate said to the chief priests and the crowd, "I find no crime in this man." ⁵ But they were urgent, saying, "He stirs up the people, teaching throughout all Judea, from Galilee to this place."

⁵⁵ Now the Passover of the Jews was at hand, and many went from the country up to Jerusalem before the Passover, to purify themselves.

³³ Then Pilate entered the Praetorium again, called Jesus, and said to him, "Are you the King of the Jews?"

³⁹ But you have a custom that I should release one man for you at the Passover. So do you want me to release to you the King of the Jews?"

⁹ and he went again into the Praetorium and said to Jesus, "Where are you from?" But Jesus gave him no answer.

¹⁴ Now it was the day of Preparation of the Passover, about the sixth hour. And he said to the Jews, "Behold your King!"

¹³ The God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, the God of our fathers, has glorified his servant Jesus, the one whom you delivered and disowned in the presence of Pilate, when he had decided to release him.

²⁸ And he said to them, "You yourselves know how unlawful it is for a Jew to associate with a foreigner or to visit him; but God has shown me that I should not call any man common or unclean.

³ saying, "You went to uncircumcised men and ate with them."
