¹ The beginning of the gospel of Jesus Christ, the Son of God. ² As it is written in Isaiah the prophet: "Behold, I send my messenger before your face, who will prepare your way"; ³ "The voice of one crying in the wilderness: 'Prepare the way of the Lord; make his paths straight.'" ⁴ John came baptizing in the wilderness, and preaching a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins. ⁵ And all the land of Judea, and the people from Jerusalem, went out to him and they were all baptized by him in the Jordan River, confessing their sins. ⁶ Now John was clothed with camel's hair, and with a leather belt around his waist, and he ate locusts and wild honey. ⁷ And he preached, saying, "After me comes One who is mightier than I, the thong of whose sandals I am not worthy to stoop down and untie. ⁸ I have baptized you with water, but he will baptize you with the Holy Spirit." ⁹ In those days Jesus came from Nazareth of Galilee and was baptized by John in the Jordan. ¹⁰ And immediately coming up out of the water, he saw the heavens opened and the Spirit descending upon him like a dove. ¹¹ And a voice came from heaven, "You are my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased." ¹² The Spirit immediately drove him out into the wilderness. ¹³ And he was in the wilderness forty days, tempted by Satan; and he was with the wild beasts, and the angels ministered to him. ¹⁴ Now after John was put in prison, Jesus came to Galilee, preaching the gospel of God, ¹⁵ and saying, "The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand; repent, and believe in the gospel." ¹⁶ And as he walked by the Sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and Andrew his brother casting a net into the Sea; for they were fishermen. ¹⁷ And Jesus said to them, "Come follow me, and I will make you become fishers of men." ¹⁸ And immediately they left their nets and followed him. ¹⁹ When he had gone a little farther from there, he saw James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother, who also were in the boat mending their nets. ²⁰ And immediately he called them; and they left their father Zebedee in the boat with the hired servants, and followed him. ²¹ And they went into Capernaum, and immediately on the Sabbath he entered the synagogue and taught. ²² And they were astonished at his teaching, for he taught them as one who had authority, and not as the scribes. ²³ Now there was a man in their synagogue with an unclean spirit. And he cried out, ²⁴ saying, "Let us alone! What have we to do with you, Jesus of Nazareth? Did you come to destroy us? I know who you arethe Holy One of God!" ²⁵ But Jesus rebuked him, saying, "Be quiet, and come out of him!" ²⁶ And the unclean spirit, convulsing him and crying with a loud voice, came out of him. ²⁷ And they were all amazed, so that they questioned among themselves, saying, "What is this? A new teaching! With authority he commands even the unclean spirits, and they obey him." ²⁸ And at once his fame spread everywhere throughout all the surrounding region of Galilee. ²⁹ As soon as they left the synagogue, they went with James and John, and entered the house of Simon and Andrew. ³⁰ Now Simon's mother-in-law lay sick with a fever, and immediately they told him about her. ³¹ So he came and took her by the hand and lifted her up, and immediately the fever left her. And she served them. ³² Now at evening, when the sun had set, they brought to him all who were sick and those who were demon-possessed. ³³ And the whole city was gathered together at the door. ³⁴ And he healed many who were sick with various diseases, and cast out many demons; and he would not permit the demons to speak, because they knew him. ³⁵ Now in the morning, a long while before daylight, he rose and went out to a solitary place, and there he prayed. ³⁶ And Simon and those who were with him searched for him, ³⁷ and when they found him, they said to him, "Everyone is looking for you." ³⁸ And he said to them, "Let us go on to the next towns, so I may preach there also; for that is why I have come." ³⁹ And he went throughout all Galilee, preaching in their synagogues and casting out demons. ⁴⁰ Then a leper came to him, imploring him, kneeling down to him and saying to him, "If you are willing, you can make me clean." ⁴¹ And Jesus, moved with compassion, put out his hand and touched him, and said to him, "I am willing; be clean." ⁴² And immediately the leprosy left him, and he was made clean. ⁴³ And he strictly warned him and sent him away at once, ⁴⁴ and he said to him, "See that you say nothing to anyone; but go, show yourself to the priest, and offer for your cleansing what Moses commanded, as a testimony to them." ⁴⁵ But he went out and began to talk freely about it, and to spread the news, so that Jesus could no longer openly enter a town, but was outside in the deserted places; and people came to him from every quarter.

¹⁷ And behold, a voice from heaven, saying, "This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased."

³ And the tempter came and said to him, "If you are the Son of God, command these stones to become loaves of bread."

³³ Then those who were in the boat worshipped him, saying, "Truly you are the Son of God."

⁵ While he was still speaking, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them; and a voice from the cloud said, "This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased. Listen to him!"

² just as they were delivered to us by those who from the beginning were eyewitnesses and ministers of the word, ³ it seemed good to me also, having carefully investigated all things from the very first, to write to you an orderly account, most excellent Theophilus,

³⁵ And the angel answered her, "The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you; therefore the Holy One to be born will be called the Son of God.

¹⁰ Then the angel said to them, "Do not be afraid, for behold, I bring you good news of great joy which will be to all the people. ¹¹ For to you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.

¹⁴ And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, the glory as of the only begotten from the Father, full of grace and truth.

³⁴ And I have seen and testified that this is the Son of God."

⁴⁹ Nathanael answered him, "Rabbi, you are the Son of God! You are the King of Israel!"

¹⁶ For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.

⁶⁹ And we believe, and have come to know, that you are the Holy One of God."

³¹ but these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that believing you may have life in his name.

¹ In the first book, O Theophilus, I wrote about all that Jesus began to do and to teach, ² until the day when he was taken up to heaven, after he had given orders through the Holy Spirit to the apostles whom he had chosen.

¹ Paul, a servant of Jesus Christ, called to be an apostle, set apart for the gospel of God ² which he promised beforehand through his prophets in the Holy Scriptures, ³ concerning his Son, who was born of the seed of David according to the flesh, ⁴ and declared to be the Son of God with power according to the Spirit of holiness by his resurrection from the dead, Jesus Christ our Lord.

³ For what the law could not do, in that it was weakened through the flesh, God did by sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin: he condemned sin in the flesh,

³² He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all, how will he not also give us all things with him?

¹ In the past God spoke to our fathers by the prophets at many times and in various ways, ² but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed heir of all things, and through whom also he made the world.

¹ That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked upon, and our hands have touched, concerning the Word of life, ² the life was manifested, and we have seen it, and testify to it, and proclaim to you the eternal life which was with the Father and was manifested to us ³ that which we have seen and heard we proclaim also to you, so that you may have fellowship with us; and our fellowship is with the Father and with his Son Jesus Christ.

¹¹ And this is the testimony: that God has given us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. ¹² He who has the Son has life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life.

⁵ So they said to him, "In Bethlehem of Judea, for thus it is written by the prophet:

¹ In those days John the Baptist came, preaching in the wilderness of Judea, ² and saying, "Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand." ³ For this is he who was spoken of by the prophet Isaiah when he said, "The voice of one crying in the wilderness: Prepare the way of the Lord, make his paths straight." ⁴ Now John wore a garment of camel's hair, and a leather belt around his waist; and his food was locusts and wild honey. ⁵ Then Jerusalem and all Judea and all the region about the Jordan went out to him, ⁶ and confessing their sins, they were baptized by him in the Jordan River. ⁷ But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees coming for baptism, he said to them, "You brood of vipers! Who warned you to flee from the wrath to come? ⁸ Bear fruit worthy of repentance, ⁹ and do not think to say to yourselves, 'We have Abraham as our father.' For I tell you that God is able to raise up children to Abraham from these stones. ¹⁰ Even now the ax is laid at the root of the trees, and every tree therefore that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. ¹¹ I baptize you with water for repentance, but he who is coming after me is mightier than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire.

¹⁰ For this is he of whom it is written: 'Behold, I send my messenger before your face, who will prepare your way before you.'

²⁴ The Son of Man goes just as it is written of him, but woe to that man by whom the Son of Man is betrayed! It would have been better for that man if he had not been born."

³¹ Then Jesus said to them, "You will all fall away because of me this night; for it is written, 'I will strike the shepherd, and the sheep of the flock will be scattered.'

¹⁵ For he will be great in the sight of the Lord, and shall drink neither wine nor strong drink. He will also be filled with the Holy Spirit, even from his mother's womb. ¹⁶ And he will turn many of the sons of Israel to the Lord their God. ¹⁷ And he will go before him in the spirit and power of Elijah, 'to turn the hearts of the fathers to the children,' and the disobedient to the wisdom of the just, to make ready a people prepared for the Lord."

⁷⁰ as he spoke by the mouth of his holy prophets from of old,

⁷⁶ And you, child, will be called the prophet of the Most High; for you will go on before the Lord to prepare his ways,

² during the high priesthood of Annas and Caiaphas, the word of God came to John son of Zechariah in the wilderness. ³ And he went into all the region around the Jordan, preaching a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins. ⁴ As it is written in the book of the words of Isaiah the prophet, "The voice of one crying in the wilderness: 'Prepare the way of the Lord, make his paths straight. ⁵ Every valley shall be filled and every mountain and hill brought low; the crooked places shall be made straight and the rough ways smooth; ⁶ and all flesh shall see the salvation of God.'" ⁷ Then he said to the multitudes that came out to be baptized by him, "You brood of vipers! Who warned you to flee from the wrath to come? ⁸ Therefore bear fruits worthy of repentance, and do not begin to say to yourselves, 'We have Abraham as our father.' For I tell you that God is able to raise up children to Abraham from these stones. ⁹ And even now the ax is laid at the root of the trees; every tree therefore that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire." ¹⁰ And the multitudes asked him, "What then shall we do?" ¹¹ And he answered them, "He who has two tunics, let him share with him who has none; and he who has food, let him do likewise." ¹² Tax collectors also came to be baptized, and said to him, "Teacher, what shall we do?" ¹³ And he said to them, "Collect no more than is appointed you." ¹⁴ Likewise the soldiers asked him, "And what shall we do?" So he said to them, "Rob no one by violence or accuse falsely, and be content with your wages." ¹⁵ As the people were in expectation, and all men questioned in their hearts concerning John, whether perhaps he were the Christ, ¹⁶ John answered them all, "I baptize you with water; but one mightier than I is coming, the thong of whose sandals I am not worthy to untie. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and with fire.

²⁷ This is he of whom it is written: 'Behold, I send my messenger before your face, who will prepare your way before you.' ²⁸ I tell you, among those born of women there is no one greater than John; yet the one who is least in the kingdom of God is greater than he."

³¹ Then he took the twelve aside and said to them, "Behold, we are going up to Jerusalem, and everything that is written of the Son of Man by the prophets will be accomplished.

³ For this is he who was spoken of by the prophet Isaiah when he said, "The voice of one crying in the wilderness: Prepare the way of the Lord, make his paths straight." ⁴ As it is written in the book of the words of Isaiah the prophet, "The voice of one crying in the wilderness: 'Prepare the way of the Lord, make his paths straight. ⁵ Every valley shall be filled and every mountain and hill brought low; the crooked places shall be made straight and the rough ways smooth; ⁶ and all flesh shall see the salvation of God.'"

¹⁵ John bore witness of him and cried out, saying, "This was he of whom I said, 'He who comes after me ranks before me, for he was before me.'"

¹⁹ Now this is the testimony of John, when the Jews sent priests and Levites from Jerusalem to ask him, "Who are you?" ²⁰ He confessed, he did not deny, but confessed, "I am not the Christ." ²¹ And they asked him, "What then? Are you Elijah?" He said, "I am not." "Are you the prophet?" And he answered, "No." ²² Then they said to him, "Who are you? Give us an answer for those who sent us. What do you say about yourself?" ²³ He said, "I am the voice of one crying in the wilderness, 'Make straight the way of the Lord,' as the prophet Isaiah said." ²⁴ Now they had been sent from the Pharisees. ²⁵ They asked him, "Then why do you baptize, if you are not the Christ, nor Elijah, nor the prophet?" ²⁶ John answered them, "I baptize with water, but there stands One among you whom you do not know. ²⁷ It is he who comes after me, the thong of whose sandal I am not worthy to untie." ²⁸ This took place in Bethany beyond the Jordan, where John was baptizing. ²⁹ The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him, and said, "Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world! ³⁰ This is he of whom I said, 'After me comes a man who ranks before me, for he was before me.' ³¹ I myself did not know him; but for this I came baptizing with water, that he might be revealed to Israel." ³² And John bore witness, "I saw the Spirit descend as a dove from heaven, and it remained on him. ³³ I did not know him, but he who sent me to baptize with water said to me, 'He on whom you see the Spirit descend and remain, this is he who baptizes with the Holy Spirit.' ³⁴ And I have seen and testified that this is the Son of God."

²⁸ You yourselves bear me witness, that I said, 'I am not the Christ,' but I have been sent before him. ²⁹ He who has the bride is the bridegroom; but the friend of the bridegroom, who stands and hears him, rejoices greatly because of the bridegroom's voice. Therefore this joy of mine is now full. ³⁰ He must increase, but I must decrease. ³¹ "He who comes from above is above all; he who is of the earth belongs to the earth, and of the earth he speaks. He who comes from heaven is above all. ³² He testifies to what he has seen and heard; yet no one receives his testimony. ³³ He who has received his testimony has certified that God is true. ³⁴ For he whom God has sent speaks the words of God, for God gives the Spirit without measure. ³⁵ The Father loves the Son, and has given all things into his hand. ³⁶ He who believes in the Son has eternal life; he who does not obey the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God remains on him."

¹ In those days John the Baptist came, preaching in the wilderness of Judea, ² and saying, "Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand."

⁶ and confessing their sins, they were baptized by him in the Jordan River.

¹¹ I baptize you with water for repentance, but he who is coming after me is mightier than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire.

⁷⁷ to give knowledge of salvation to his people in the forgiveness of their sins,

² during the high priesthood of Annas and Caiaphas, the word of God came to John son of Zechariah in the wilderness. ³ And he went into all the region around the Jordan, preaching a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins.

²³ Now John also was baptizing at Aenon near Salim, because there was much water there; and people came and were baptized.

³⁷ You know what has happened throughout all Judea, beginning from Galilee after the baptism which John preached:

²⁴ Before his coming John had preached a baptism of repentance to all the people of Israel. ²⁵ And as John was completing his course, he said, 'What do you suppose that I am? I am not he. No, but after me one is coming, the sandals of whose feet I am not worthy to untie.'

³ And he said, "Into what then were you baptized?" They said, "Into John's baptism." ⁴ Paul said, "John baptized with the baptism of repentance, telling the people to believe in the one who was coming after him, that is, in Jesus."

¹⁶ Now why do you delay? Get up and be baptized, and wash away your sins, calling on his name.'

⁵ Then Jerusalem and all Judea and all the region about the Jordan went out to him, ⁶ and confessing their sins, they were baptized by him in the Jordan River.

²⁵ Great crowds followed himfrom Galilee, and from the Decapolis, Jerusalem, Judea, and beyond the Jordan.

²⁸ This took place in Bethany beyond the Jordan, where John was baptizing.

³⁸ And Peter said to them, "Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins; and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

¹⁸ Many also of those who believed now came, confessing and disclosing their practices.

⁸ If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. ⁹ If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just, and will forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness. ¹⁰ If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.

⁴ Now John wore a garment of camel's hair, and a leather belt around his waist; and his food was locusts and wild honey.

¹⁴ But John tried to prevent him, saying, "I need to be baptized by you, and do you come to me?"

¹⁶ John answered them all, "I baptize you with water; but one mightier than I is coming, the thong of whose sandals I am not worthy to untie. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and with fire.

⁶ And Jesus went with them. When he was not far from the house, the centurion sent friends to him, saying to him, "Lord, do not trouble yourself, for I am not worthy to have you come under my roof. ⁷ Therefore I did not even consider myself worthy to come to you. But say the word, and my servant will be healed.

²⁷ It is he who comes after me, the thong of whose sandal I am not worthy to untie."

²⁸ You yourselves bear me witness, that I said, 'I am not the Christ,' but I have been sent before him. ²⁹ He who has the bride is the bridegroom; but the friend of the bridegroom, who stands and hears him, rejoices greatly because of the bridegroom's voice. ⁵ for John baptized with water, but before many days you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit."

⁴ And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.

¹⁷ 'And in the last days it shall be, God says, that I will pour out my Spirit upon all flesh, and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams;

⁴⁵ All the circumcised believers who came with Peter were amazed, because the gift of the Holy Spirit had been poured out even on the Gentiles.

¹⁵ As I began to speak, the Holy Spirit fell on them just as on us at the beginning. ¹⁶ And I remembered the word of the Lord, how he said, 'John baptized with water, but you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.'

⁴ Paul said, "John baptized with the baptism of repentance, telling the people to believe in the one who was coming after him, that is, in Jesus." ⁵ On hearing this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. ⁶ And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Spirit came on them, and they spoke with tongues and prophesied.

¹³ For by one Spirit we were all baptized into one bodywhether Jews or Greeks, slaves or freeand we were all made to drink of one Spirit.

⁵ he saved us, not on the basis of deeds which we have done in righteousness, but because of his own mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewal in the Holy Spirit, ⁶ whom he poured out upon us richly through Jesus Christ our Savior,

²³ and he went and dwelt in a city called Nazareth, that what was spoken by the Prophets might be fulfilled, "He shall be called a Nazarene."

¹³ Then Jesus came from Galilee to John at the Jordan to be baptized by him. ¹⁴ But John tried to prevent him, saying, "I need to be baptized by you, and do you come to me?" ¹⁵ But Jesus answered him, "Let it be so now; for thus it is fitting for us to fulfill all righteousness." Then he consented. ¹⁶ And when Jesus was baptized, he went up immediately from the water, and behold, the heavens were opened and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and alighting on him. ¹⁷ And behold, a voice from heaven, saying, "This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased."

²¹ When all the people were being baptized, Jesus was also baptized. And as he was praying, the heaven was opened ²² and the Holy Spirit descended in bodily form like a dove upon him, and a voice came from heaven, "You are my beloved Son; with you I am well pleased."

¹⁶ And when Jesus was baptized, he went up immediately from the water, and behold, the heavens were opened and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and alighting on him.

²² and the Holy Spirit descended in bodily form like a dove upon him, and a voice came from heaven, "You are my beloved Son; with you I am well pleased."

⁷ And a cloud came and overshadowed them; and a voice came out of the cloud, "This is my beloved Son. Listen to him!"

³⁵ And a voice came out of the cloud, saying, "This is my Son, my Chosen; listen to him!"

²⁰ For the Father loves the Son, and shows him all things that he himself does; and he will show him greater works than these, that you may marvel. ²¹ For as the Father raises the dead and gives life to them, even so the Son gives life to whom he will. ²² For the Father judges no one, but has given all judgment to the Son, ²³ that all may honor the Son just as they honor the Father. He who does not honor the Son does not honor the Father who sent him.

³⁷ And the Father who sent me has himself testified of me. You have never heard his voice, nor seen his form.

²⁸ Father, glorify your name." Then a voice came from heaven, "I have glorified it, and I will glorify it again." ²⁹ The crowd standing by heard it and said that it had thundered. Others said, "An angel has spoken to him." ³⁰ Jesus answered, "This voice has come for your sake, not for mine.

⁴ and declared to be the Son of God with power according to the Spirit of holiness by his resurrection from the dead, Jesus Christ our Lord.

¹³ For he has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and transferred us into the kingdom of his beloved Son,

¹⁷ For he received honor and glory from God the Father when the voice came to him by the Majestic Glory, saying, "This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased." ¹⁸ We ourselves heard this voice coming from heaven when we were with him on the holy mountain.

¹ Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil. ² And he fasted forty days and forty nights, and afterward he was hungry. ³ And the tempter came and said to him, "If you are the Son of God, command these stones to become loaves of bread." ⁴ But he answered, "It is written, 'Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.'" ⁵ Then the devil took him to the holy city, and set him on the pinnacle of the temple, ⁶ and said to him, "If you are the Son of God, throw yourself down. For it is written, 'He will give his angels charge of you,' and 'In their hands they will bear you up, lest you strike your foot against a stone.'" ⁷ Jesus said to him, "Again it is written, 'You shall not tempt the Lord your God.'" ⁸ Again, the devil took him to a very high mountain, and showed him all the kingdoms of the world, and their glory. ⁹ And he said to him, "All these I will give you, if you will fall down and worship me." ¹⁰ Then Jesus said to him, "Away, Satan! for it is written, 'You shall worship the Lord your God and him only shall you serve.'" ¹¹ Then the devil left him, and behold, angels came and ministered to him.

¹ Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness, ² being tempted for forty days by the devil. In those days he ate nothing, and when they had ended, he was hungry. ³ And the devil said to him, "If you are the Son of God, command this stone to become bread." ⁴ But Jesus answered him, "It is written, 'Man shall not live by bread alone.'" ⁵ Then the devil took him up to a high place, and showed him all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time. ⁶ And he said to him, "To you I will give all this authority and their glory; for it has been delivered to me, and I give it to whom I will. ⁷ If you, then, will worship me, it shall all be yours." ⁸ And Jesus answered him, "It is written, 'You shall worship the Lord your God, and him only shall you serve.'" ⁹ He took him to Jerusalem, set him on the pinnacle of the temple, and said to him, "If you are the Son of God, throw yourself down from here; ¹⁰ for it is written: 'He will give his angels charge of you, to guard you,' ¹¹ and, 'In their hands they will bear you up, lest you strike your foot against a stone.'" ¹² And Jesus answered him, "It is said, 'You shall not tempt the Lord your God.'" ¹³ When the devil had ended every temptation, he departed from him until an opportune time.

⁵³ Do you think that I cannot appeal to my Father, and he will at once send me more than twelve legions of angels?

¹⁶ By common confession, great is the mystery of godliness: he was revealed in the flesh, was vindicated in the Spirit, seen by angels, preached among the nations, believed on in the world, taken up in glory.

¹⁷ Therefore he had to be made like his brethren in every respect, so that he might become a merciful and faithful high priest in the service of God, to make atonement for the sins of the people. ¹⁸ For because he himself has suffered, being tempted, he is able to help those who are tempted.

¹⁵ For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin.

¹² Now when Jesus heard that John had been put in prison, he withdrew to Galilee.

²³ And Jesus went about all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every disease and every sickness among the people.

³⁵ And Jesus went about all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every disease and every sickness.

² Now when John heard in prison about the works of Christ, he sent word by his disciples

² and he said to his servants, "This is John the Baptist, he has risen from the dead; that is why these powers are at work in him."

²⁰ added this to them all, that he shut up John in prison.

¹⁷ And the book of the prophet Isaiah was handed to him. And he opened the book, and found the place where it was written: ¹⁸ "The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to preach the good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim release to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed, ¹⁹ to proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord."

⁴³ but he said to them, "I must preach the good news of the kingdom of God to the other cities also, because I was sent for this purpose." ⁴⁴ And he was preaching in the synagogues of Judea.

¹ Soon afterward, he went on through every city and village, preaching and bringing the good news of the kingdom of God. And the twelve were with him,

²² After this Jesus and his disciples went into the land of Judea, and there he remained with them and baptized. ²³ Now John also was baptizing at Aenon near Salim, because there was much water there; and people came and were baptized. ²⁴ For John had not yet been put in prison.

²⁵ And now, behold, I know that all of you among whom I have gone about preaching the kingdom will see my face no more.

²³ When they had appointed a day for Paul, they came to him at his lodging in great numbers. And he explained the matter to them from morning till evening, testifying to the kingdom of God and trying to convince them about Jesus both from the law of Moses and from the prophets.

¹⁷ And he came and preached peace to you who were far away, and peace to those who were near;

² and saying, "Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand."

¹⁷ From that time Jesus began to preach and say, "Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand."

⁷ And preach as you go, saying, 'The kingdom of heaven is at hand.'

³¹ Which of the two did the will of his father?" They said, "The first." Jesus said to them, "Truly, I say to you, the tax collectors and the harlots go into the kingdom of God before you. ³² For John came to you in the way of righteousness, and you did not believe him, but the tax collectors and the harlots believed him; and even when you saw it, you did not afterward repent and believe him.

⁹ Heal the sick there and say to them, 'The kingdom of God has come near to you.'

¹¹ 'Even the dust of your town that clings to our feet, we wipe off against you. Nevertheless know this, that the kingdom of God has come near.'

⁴⁷ and that repentance and forgiveness of sins should be preached in his name to all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.

³⁶ Therefore let all the house of Israel know for certain that God has made him both Lord and Christ, this Jesus whom you crucified." ³⁷ Now when they heard this they were cut to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, "Brethren, what shall we do?" ³⁸ And Peter said to them, "Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins; and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

²¹ testifying both to Jews and to Greeks of repentance toward God and faith in our Lord Jesus Christ.

²⁶ but is now revealed and made known to all nations through the prophetic writings, according to the command of the eternal God, to bring about the obedience of faith

⁴ But when the time had fully come, God sent forth his Son, born of a woman, born under the law,

¹⁰ as a plan for the fullness of the times, to unite all things in Christ, things in heaven and things on earth. In him

²⁵ with gentleness correcting those who are in opposition, if perhaps God will grant them repentance leading to the knowledge of the truth, ²⁶ and they may come to their senses and escape from the snare of the devil, having been held captive by him to do his will.

¹⁸ As Jesus was walking by the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers, Simon who is called Peter and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea; for they were fishermen. ¹⁹ And he said to them, "Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men." ²⁰ Immediately they left their nets and followed him. ²¹ Going on from there, he saw two other brothers, James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother, in the boat with Zebedee their father, mending their nets. And he called them, ²² and immediately they left the boat and their father, and followed him.

² The names of the twelve apostles are these: first, Simon, who is called Peter, and Andrew his brother; James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother;

¹⁶ And as he walked by the Sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and Andrew his brother casting a net into the Sea; for they were fishermen. ¹⁷ And Jesus said to them, "Come follow me, and I will make you become fishers of men." ¹⁸ And immediately they left their nets and followed him. ¹⁹ When he had gone a little farther from there, he saw James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother, who also were in the boat mending their nets. ²⁰ And immediately he called them; and they left their father Zebedee in the boat with the hired servants, and followed him.

¹⁶ Simon, to whom he gave the name Peter;

¹⁸ Andrew, Philip, Bartholomew, Matthew, Thomas, James the son of Alphaeus, Thaddaeus, Simon the Zealot;

¹ Now as the people pressed around him to hear the word of God, he was standing by the Lake of Gennesaret. ² And he saw two boats by the lake; but the fishermen had gone out of them and were washing their nets. ³ Then he got into one of the boats, which was Simon's, and asked him to put out a little from the land. And he sat down and taught the people from the boat. ⁴ When he had finished speaking, he said to Simon, "Put out into the deep, and let down your nets for a catch." ⁵ And Simon answered, "Master, we toiled all night and caught nothing! But at your word I will let down the nets." ⁶ And when they had done this, they caught a great number of fish, and their nets were breaking. ⁷ So they signaled to their partners in the other boat to come and help them. And they came and filled both the boats, so that they began to sink. ⁸ When Simon Peter saw it, he fell down at Jesus' knees, saying, "Depart from me, for I am a sinful man, O Lord!" ⁹ For he and all who were with him were astonished at the catch of fish which they had taken; ¹⁰ and so also were James and John, the sons of Zebedee, who were partners with Simon. And Jesus said to Simon, "Do not be afraid. From now on you will catch men." ¹¹ So when they had brought their boats to land, they left everything and followed him.

¹⁴ Simon, whom he named Peter, and Andrew his brother, James and John, Philip, and Bartholomew,

⁴⁰ One of the two who heard John speak, and followed him, was Andrew, Simon Peter's brother. ⁴¹ He first found his own brother Simon, and said to him, "We have found the Messiah" (which means the Christ). ⁴² He brought him to Jesus. Jesus looked at him and said, "You are Simon son of John. You shall be called Cephas" (which means Peter).

⁸ One of his disciples, Andrew, Simon Peter's brother, said to him,

²² Philip went and told Andrew; and in turn Andrew and Philip told Jesus.

¹³ And when they had entered, they went up to the upper room, where they were staying; Peter and John and James and Andrew, Philip and Thomas, Bartholomew and Matthew, James the son of Alphaeus and Simon the Zealot and Judas the son of James.

¹⁹ And he said to them, "Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men." ²⁰ Immediately they left their nets and followed him.

¹⁰ and so also were James and John, the sons of Zebedee, who were partners with Simon. And Jesus said to Simon, "Do not be afraid. From now on you will catch men."

³⁸ And Peter said to them, "Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins; and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. ³⁹ For the promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off, for all whom the Lord our God will call to himself." ⁴⁰ And he testified with many other words and exhorted them, saying, "Save yourselves from this perverse generation." ⁴¹ So those who received his word were baptized, and there were added that day about three thousand souls.

²⁷ Then Peter answered him, "Behold, we have left everything and followed you. What then shall we have?" ²⁸ Jesus said to them, "Truly I say to you, at the renewal of all things, when the Son of Man sits on his glorious throne, you who have followed me will also sit on twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel. ²⁹ And every one who has left houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or children or lands, for my name's sake, will receive a hundredfold, and inherit eternal life. ³⁰ But many who are first will be last, and the last first.

²⁸ Peter began to say to him, "See, we have left everything and followed you." ²⁹ Jesus said, "Truly, I say to you, there is no one who has left house or brothers or sisters or mother or father or children or lands, for my sake and for the gospel, ³⁰ who will not receive a hundredfold now in this timehouse and brothers and sisters and mothers and children and lands, with persecutions, and in the age to come, eternal life. ³¹ But many who are first will be last, and the last first."

¹¹ So when they had brought their boats to land, they left everything and followed him.

³³ So likewise, whoever of you does not give up all that he has cannot be my disciple.

²⁸ Then Peter said, "Behold, we have left all and followed you." ²⁹ So he said to them, "Truly, I say to you, there is no one who has left house or parents or brothers or wife or children, for the sake of the kingdom of God, ³⁰ who will not receive many times more in this time, and in the age to come eternal life."

⁸ More than that, I count everything to be loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have suffered the loss of all things, and count them as rubbish, in order that I may gain Christ

²¹ Going on from there, he saw two other brothers, James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother, in the boat with Zebedee their father, mending their nets. And he called them,

¹⁷ James the son of Zebedee and John the brother of James, to whom he gave the name Boanerges, that is, "Sons of Thunder";

³⁷ And he allowed no one to follow him except Peter, James, and John the brother of James.

² After six days Jesus took with him Peter and James and John, and led them up a high mountain apart by themselves. And he was transfigured before them,

³⁵ Then James and John, the sons of Zebedee, came to him and said, "Teacher, we want you to do for us whatever we ask."

³³ And he took Peter, James and John with him, and he began to be deeply distressed and troubled.

² He had James the brother of John put to death with the sword.

²¹ Another of the disciples said to him, "Lord, let me first go and bury my father." ²² But Jesus said to him, "Follow me, and let the dead bury their own dead."

³⁷ He who loves father or mother more than me is not worthy of me; and he who loves son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me;

²⁹ Jesus said, "Truly, I say to you, there is no one who has left house or brothers or sisters or mother or father or children or lands, for my sake and for the gospel,

²⁶ "If any one comes to me and does not hate his own father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters, yes, and even his own life, he cannot be my disciple.

¹⁶ From now on, therefore, we regard no one from a fleshly point of view; even though we once regarded Christ from a fleshly point of view, we regard him thus no longer.

¹³ And leaving Nazareth, he went and dwelt in Capernaum, which is by the sea, in the regions of Zebulun and Naphtali,

³⁹ And he went throughout all Galilee, preaching in their synagogues and casting out demons.

¹ And when he entered Capernaum after some days, it was heard that he was home.

² And when the Sabbath had come, he began to teach in the synagogue. And many who heard him were astonished, saying, "Where did this man get these things? And what wisdom is this which is given to him, that such mighty works are performed by his hands!

¹ Then he left there and went to the region of Judea and beyond the Jordan. And crowds gathered to him again; and again, as his custom was, he taught them.

¹⁶ And he came to Nazareth, where he had been brought up. And as his custom was, he went into the synagogue on the Sabbath day, and stood up to read.

³¹ Then he went down to Capernaum, a city of Galilee, and he was teaching them on the Sabbath. ³² And they were astonished at his teaching, for his word was with authority. ³³ And in the synagogue there was a man who had the spirit of an unclean demon. And he cried out with a loud voice, ³⁴ "Ha! What have you to do with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you arethe Holy One of God!" ³⁵ But Jesus rebuked him, saying, "Be quiet, and come out of him!" And when the demon had thrown him down in the midst, he came out of him without doing him any harm. ³⁶ And they were all amazed and said to one another, "What is this word? For with authority and power he commands the unclean spirits, and they come out!" ³⁷ And the report about him went out into every place in the surrounding region.

¹⁵ And you, Capernaum, will you be exalted to heaven? You shall be brought down to Hades!

¹⁰ Now he was teaching in one of the synagogues on the Sabbath.

¹⁴ But they passed on from Perga and came to Pisidian Antioch. And on the Sabbath day they went into the synagogue and sat down. ¹⁵ After the reading of the law and the prophets, the rulers of the synagogue sent to them, saying, "Brethren, if you have any word of exhortation for the people, say it." ¹⁶ Paul stood up, and motioning with his hand said, "Men of Israel, and you who fear God, listen: ¹⁷ the God of this people Israel chose our fathers and made the people great during their stay in the land of Egypt, and with uplifted arm he led them out of it. ¹⁸ For about forty years he put up with them in the wilderness. ¹⁹ When he had destroyed seven nations in the land of Canaan, he gave them their land as an inheritance, for about four hundred and fifty years. ²⁰ After these things he gave them judges until Samuel the prophet. ²¹ Then they asked for a king, and God gave them Saul the son of Kish, a man of the tribe of Benjamin, for forty years. ²² And after he had removed him, he raised up David to be their king; concerning whom he testified and said, 'I have found in David the son of Jesse a man after my heart, who will do all my will.' ²³ From this man's descendants God has brought to Israel a Savior, Jesus, as he promised. ²⁴ Before his coming John had preached a baptism of repentance to all the people of Israel. ²⁵ And as John was completing his course, he said, 'What do you suppose that I am? I am not he. No, but after me one is coming, the sandals of whose feet I am not worthy to untie.' ²⁶ "Brethren, sons of the family of Abraham, and those among you that fear God, to us has been sent the message of this salvation. ²⁷ For those who live in Jerusalem and their rulers, because they did not recognize him nor the utterances of the prophets which are read every Sabbath, fulfilled these by condemning him. ²⁸ Though they found no ground for a death sentence, they asked Pilate to have him executed. ²⁹ When they had carried out all that was written about him, they took him down from the tree and laid him in a tomb. ³⁰ But God raised him from the dead; ³¹ and for many days he appeared to those who came up with him from Galilee to Jerusalem, who are now his witnesses to the people. ³² And we preach to you the good news that what God promised to the fathers, ³³ he has fulfilled for us, their children, by raising up Jesus. As it is also written in the second Psalm: 'You are my Son; today I have begotten you.' ³⁴ As for the fact that he raised him from the dead, no more to return to decay, he spoke in this way: 'I will give you the holy and sure blessings of David.' ³⁵ Therefore he also says in another Psalm, 'You will not let your Holy One see decay.' ³⁶ For David, after he had served the purpose of God in his own generation, fell asleep, and was laid with his fathers and saw decay; ³⁷ but he whom God raised did not see decay. ³⁸ Therefore let it be known to you, brethren, that through him forgiveness of sins is proclaimed to you, ³⁹ and through him everyone who believes is freed from everything from which you could not be freed by the law of Moses. ⁴⁰ Therefore take care, so that what is said in the prophets may not come upon you: ⁴¹ 'Behold, you scoffers, and wonder, and perish; for I am going to do a deed in your days, a deed you will never believe, if someone declares it to you.'" ⁴² As Paul and Barnabas were going out, the people begged that these things might be spoken to them the next Sabbath. ⁴³ When the meeting of the synagogue broke up, many Jews and devout converts to Judaism followed Paul and Barnabas, who spoke to them and urged them to continue in the grace of God. ⁴⁴ The next Sabbath almost the whole city gathered to hear the word of the Lord. ⁴⁵ But when the Jews saw the crowds, they were filled with jealousy, and contradicted what was spoken by Paul, and blasphemed. ⁴⁶ Paul and Barnabas spoke out boldly and said, "It was necessary that the word of God be spoken to you first. Since you reject it and judge yourselves unworthy of eternal life, behold, we turn to the Gentiles. ⁴⁷ For so the Lord has commanded us: 'I have made you a light for the Gentiles, that you may bring salvation to the ends of the earth.'" ⁴⁸ When the Gentiles heard this, they were glad and glorified the word of the Lord; and as many as were appointed to eternal life believed. ⁴⁹ And the word of the Lord spread through the whole region. ⁵⁰ But the Jews incited the devout women of high standing and the leading men of the city, and stirred up persecution against Paul and Barnabas, and drove them out of their district. ⁵¹ So they shook off the dust from their feet in protest against them and went to Iconium. ⁵² And the disciples were filled with joy and with the Holy Spirit.

² And Paul went in, as was his custom, and for three weeks he reasoned with them from the scriptures,

⁴ And every Sabbath he was reasoning in the synagogue, and trying to persuade Jews and Greeks.

²⁸ And when Jesus had finished these sayings, the crowds were astonished at his teaching, ²⁹ for he taught them as one who had authority, and not as their scribes.

⁵⁴ And coming to his own country he taught them in their synagogue, so that they were astonished, and said, "Where did this man get this wisdom and these mighty works?

¹⁶ "Woe to you, blind guides, who say, 'If any one swears by the temple, it is nothing; but if any one swears by the gold of the temple, he is bound by his oath.' ¹⁷ You blind fools! For which is greater, the gold or the temple that has made the gold sacred? ¹⁸ And you say, 'If anyone swears by the altar, it means nothing; but if anyone swears by the gift that is on it, he is bound by his oath.' ¹⁹ You blind men! For which is greater, the gift or the altar that makes the gift sacred? ²⁰ Therefore, he who swears by the altar swears by it and by everything on it. ²¹ And he who swears by the temple, swears by it and by him who dwells in it. ²² And he who swears by heaven, swears by the throne of God and by him who sits on it. ²³ "Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you pay tithe of mint and dill and cummin, and have neglected the weightier matters of the Law, justice and mercy and faith. These you ought to have done, without neglecting the others. ²⁴ You blind guides, who strain out a gnat and swallow a camel!

³ (For the Pharisees and all the Jews do not eat unless they wash their hands in a special way, holding the tradition of the elders. ⁴ When they come from the marketplace, they do not eat unless they wash themselves. And there are many other traditions which they observe, the washing of cups and pitchers and copper vessels.) ⁵ The Pharisees and the scribes asked him, "Why do your disciples not live according to the tradition of the elders, but eat with impure hands?" ⁶ And he said to them, "Well did Isaiah prophesy of you hypocrites; as it is written: 'This people honors me with their lips, but their heart is far from me. ⁷ In vain they worship me, teaching as doctrines the precepts of men.' ⁸ You let go of the commandment of God, and hold on to the tradition of men." ⁹ And he said to them, "You have a fine way of rejecting the commandment of God, in order to keep your tradition! ¹⁰ For Moses said, 'Honor your father and your mother'; and, 'He who curses father or mother, let him be put to death.' ¹¹ But you say that if a man says to his father or mother, 'Whatever help you might otherwise have received from me is Corban' (that is, a gift devoted to God), ¹² then you no longer let him do anything for his father or mother, ¹³ thus making void the word of God through your tradition which you have handed down. And many such things you do."

³² And they were astonished at his teaching, for his word was with authority.

¹⁵ for I will give you a mouth and wisdom which none of your adversaries will be able to resist or contradict.

⁴⁶ The officers answered, "No man ever spoke like this man!"

¹⁰ But they could not stand against the wisdom and the Spirit with which he spoke.

²¹ All those who heard him were amazed, and said, "Is this not he who made havoc in Jerusalem of those who called on this name, and who had come here for the purpose of bringing them bound before the chief priests?" ²² But Saul increased all the more in strength, and confounded the Jews who lived at Damascus by proving that this Jesus is the Christ.

² But we have renounced secret and shameful ways; we do not use deception, nor do we distort the word of God. On the contrary, by setting forth the truth plainly we commend ourselves to every man's conscience in the sight of God.

¹² For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, of joints and marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart. ¹³ And there is no creature hidden from his sight, but all things are open and laid bare to the eyes of him with whom we have to do.

⁴³ "When an unclean spirit goes out of a man, he goes through dry places, seeking rest, and finds none.

³⁴ And he healed many who were sick with various diseases, and cast out many demons; and he would not permit the demons to speak, because they knew him.

² And when he had come out of the boat, there met him out of the tombs a man with an unclean spirit,

²⁵ But a woman whose little daughter was possessed by an unclean spirit heard about him, and she came and fell at his feet.

²⁵ And when Jesus saw that a crowd came running together, he rebuked the unclean spirit, saying to it, "You dumb and deaf spirit, I command you, come out of him, and never enter him again."

²⁹ And behold, they cried out, "What have you to do with us, O Son of God? Have you come here to torment us before the time?"

⁷ And crying out with a loud voice, he said, "What have you to do with me, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? I implore you by God, do not torment me."

³⁴ "Ha! What have you to do with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you arethe Holy One of God!"

²⁸ When he saw Jesus, he cried out and fell down before him, and said with a loud voice, "What have you to do with me, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? I beg you, do not torment me!"

³⁷ Then all the people of the surrounding region of the Gerasenes asked him to depart from them, for they were seized with great fear. So he got into the boat and returned.

¹⁹ And he said to them, "What things?" And they said to him, "The things concerning Jesus of Nazareth, who was a prophet mighty in deed and word before God and all the people,

²⁷ because you will not abandon my soul to hades, nor let your Holy One see decay.

¹⁴ But you disowned the Holy and Righteous One and asked for a murderer to be granted to you,

²⁷ For truly in this city there were gathered together against your holy servant Jesus, whom you anointed, both Herod and Pontius Pilate, along with the Gentiles and the peoples of Israel,

⁵ For we have found this man a pestilent fellow who stirs up dissension among all the Jews throughout the world, and a ringleader of the sect of the Nazarenes.

¹⁹ You believe that God is one; you do well. Even the demons believeand shudder.

⁷ "And to the angel of the church in Philadelphia write: 'These are the words of him who is holy, who is true, who has the key of David, who opens and no one shuts, and shuts and no one opens:

¹¹ And whenever the unclean spirits saw him, they fell down before him and cried out, "You are the Son of God." ¹² But he strictly ordered them not to make him known.

³⁵ But Jesus rebuked him, saying, "Be quiet, and come out of him!" And when the demon had thrown him down in the midst, he came out of him without doing him any harm.

⁴¹ And demons also came out of many, crying, "You are the Son of God!" But he rebuked them, and would not allow them to speak, because they knew that he was the Christ.

¹⁷ She followed Paul and the rest of us, crying, "These men are servants of the Most High God, who are telling you the way of salvation."

²⁰ And they brought the boy to him. And when the spirit saw him, immediately it convulsed the boy, and he fell on the ground and rolled about, foaming at the mouth.

²⁶ And the spirit cried out, convulsed him terribly, and came out. And the boy was like a corpse; so that many of them said, "He is dead."

³⁹ And behold, a spirit seizes him, and he suddenly cries out; it convulses him so that he foams at the mouth, and will hardly leave him, bruising him.

⁴² While he was coming, the demon threw him and convulsed him. But Jesus rebuked the unclean spirit, and healed the boy, and gave him back to his father.

²² But when one stronger than he attacks him and overpowers him, he takes away his armor in which he trusted, and divides his spoils.

³³ And when the demon had been cast out, the mute man spoke; and the crowds marveled, saying, "Never was anything like this seen in Israel."

²² Then they brought to him a demon-possessed man who was blind and mute, and he healed him, so that the mute man both spoke and saw. ²³ And all the people were amazed and said, "Could this be the Son of David?"

³¹ So the multitude marveled when they saw the mute speaking, the maimed made whole, the lame walking, and the blind seeing; and they glorified the God of Israel.

³⁷ And they were astonished beyond measure, saying, "He has done all things well. He even makes the deaf to hear and the mute to speak."

²⁴ And the disciples were amazed at his words. But Jesus said to them again, "Children, how hard it is to enter the kingdom of God!

³² They were on the road, going up to Jerusalem, and Jesus was walking ahead of them; and they were amazed, and those who followed were afraid. And he took the twelve aside again and began to tell them what was to happen to him.

³⁶ And they were all amazed and said to one another, "What is this word? For with authority and power he commands the unclean spirits, and they come out!"

¹ Then he called the twelve together and gave them power and authority over all demons, and to cure diseases.

¹⁷ The seventy returned with joy, saying, "Lord, even the demons are subject to us in your name." ¹⁸ And he said to them, "I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven. ¹⁹ Behold, I have given you authority to trample on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy; and nothing shall hurt you. ²⁰ Nevertheless do not rejoice in this, that the spirits are subject to you, but rejoice that your names are written in heaven."

²⁴ Then his fame spread throughout all Syria, and they brought to him all sick people who were afflicted with various diseases and pains, and those who were demon-possessed, epileptics, and paralytics, and he healed them.

³¹ But they went out and spread the news about him all over that region.

⁴⁵ But he went out and began to talk freely about it, and to spread the news, so that Jesus could no longer openly enter a town, but was outside in the deserted places; and people came to him from every quarter.

¹⁷ And the book of the prophet Isaiah was handed to him. And he opened the book, and found the place where it was written:

³⁷ And the report about him went out into every place in the surrounding region.

¹⁴ When Jesus come into Peter's house, he saw his mother-in-law lying sick with a fever. ¹⁵ He touched her hand, and the fever left her, and she rose and served him.

²¹ And they went into Capernaum, and immediately on the Sabbath he entered the synagogue and taught.

²³ Now there was a man in their synagogue with an unclean spirit. And he cried out,

³⁸ And he arose and left the synagogue, and entered Simon's house. Now Simon's mother-in-law was ill with a high fever, and they made request of him on her behalf. ³⁹ So he stood over her and rebuked the fever, and it left her. And immediately she rose and served them.

⁵⁸ And Jesus said to him, "Foxes have holes and birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay his head."

²³ and pleaded earnestly with him, saying, "My little daughter is at the point of death. Come and lay your hands on her, so that she may be healed, and live."

³ So the sisters sent to him, saying, "Lord, he whom you love is sick."

⁵ Do we not have a right to take along a believing wife, even as the other apostles and the brothers of the Lord and Cephas?

¹⁴ Is any among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord; ¹⁵ and the prayer offered in faith will save the sick man, and the Lord will raise him up; and if he has committed sins, he will be forgiven.

⁵⁵ And many women were also there, looking on from afar, who had followed Jesus from Galilee, ministering to him;

⁴¹ He took her by the hand and said to her, "Talitha cumi!" which means, "Little girl, I say to you, arise."

⁴¹ who also followed him and ministered to him when he was in Galilee; and many other women who came up with him to Jerusalem.

² and also some women who had been healed of evil spirits and infirmities: Mary, called Magdalene, from whom seven demons had come out, ³ and Joanna the wife of Chuza, Herod's steward, and Susanna, and many others who provided for them out of their means.

⁴¹ And he gave her his hand and raised her up. Then calling the saints and widows he presented her alive.

¹⁶ When evening had come, they brought to him many who were demon-possessed. And he cast out the spirits with a word, and healed all who were sick.

² And they watched him closely, to see whether he would heal him on the Sabbath, so that they might accuse him.

⁴⁰ When the sun was setting, all those who had any that were sick with various diseases brought them to him; and he laid his hands on every one of them and healed them.

⁵ And all the land of Judea, and the people from Jerusalem, went out to him and they were all baptized by him in the Jordan River, confessing their sins.

⁴⁴ The next Sabbath almost the whole city gathered to hear the word of the Lord.

²⁵ But Jesus rebuked him, saying, "Be quiet, and come out of him!"

¹² But he strictly ordered them not to make him known.

¹⁶ It happened that as we were going to the place of prayer, we were met by a slave-girl who had a spirit of divination. She brought her owners much profit by fortune-telling. ¹⁷ She followed Paul and the rest of us, crying, "These men are servants of the Most High God, who are telling you the way of salvation." ¹⁸ She continued doing this for many days. But Paul was greatly annoyed, and turned and said to the spirit, "I command you in the name of Jesus Christ to come out of her!" And it came out at that very moment.

²³ And after he had dismissed the crowds, he went up on the mountain by himself to pray. When evening came, he was there alone,

⁴⁶ And after he had left them, he went up on the mountain to pray. ⁴⁷ When evening came, the boat was in the middle of the sea, and he was alone on land. ⁴⁸ And he saw the disciples straining at the oars, for the wind was against them. About the fourth watch of the night he came to them, walking on the sea. He was about to pass by them,

⁴² Now when it was day, he departed and went into a deserted place. And the people sought him and came to him, and tried to keep him from leaving them; ⁴³ but he said to them, "I must preach the good news of the kingdom of God to the other cities also, because I was sent for this purpose."

¹⁶ But he often withdrew to the wilderness and prayed.

¹² In those days he went out to the mountain to pray, and all night he continued in prayer to God.

³⁹ He came out, and went to the Mount of Olives, as was his custom, and his disciples followed him. ⁴⁰ When he came to the place, he said to them, "Pray that you may not enter into temptation." ⁴¹ And he withdrew from them about a stone's throw, and knelt down and prayed, ⁴² "Father, if you are willing, take this cup from me; nevertheless not my will, but yours, be done." ⁴³ An angel appeared to him from heaven, and strengthened him. ⁴⁴ And being in agony, he prayed more earnestly, and his sweat became like drops of blood falling to the ground. ⁴⁵ When he rose from prayer, and came to his disciples, he found them sleeping from sorrow. ⁴⁶ He said to them, "Why do you sleep? Rise and pray that you may not enter into temptation."

³⁴ Jesus said to them, "My food is to do the will of him who sent me, and to finish his work.

¹⁵ Perceiving then that they were about to come and take him by force to make him king, Jesus withdrew again to the mountain by himself.

¹⁸ Pray at all times in the Spirit, with all prayer and petition. And with this in view, keep alert with all perseverance and petition for all the saints,

⁵ Have this attitude in yourselves which was also in Christ Jesus,

⁷ In the days of his flesh, Jesus offered up prayers and supplications, with loud cries and tears, to the one who was able to save him from death, and he was heard because of his godly fear.

²⁶ And they came to John and said to him, "Rabbi, he who was with you beyond the Jordan, to whom you have testified behold, he is baptizing, and all are going to him."

⁴⁸ If we let him go on like this, everyone will believe in him, and the Romans will come and take away both our place and our nation."

¹⁹ The Pharisees then said to one another, "You see that you are accomplishing nothing. Look, The world has gone after him!"

⁴⁹ And he said to them, "Why did you seek me? Did you not know that I must be in my Father's house?"

¹⁸ "The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to preach the good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim release to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed, ¹⁹ to proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord." ²⁰ Then he closed the book, and gave it back to the attendant, and sat down; and the eyes of all in the synagogue were fixed on him. ²¹ And he began to say to them, "Today this Scripture is fulfilled in your hearing."

⁴³ but he said to them, "I must preach the good news of the kingdom of God to the other cities also, because I was sent for this purpose."

⁴ we must work the works of him who sent me, while it is day. Night is coming, when no one can work.

²⁸ I came from the Father and have come into the world; again, I am leaving the world and going to the Father."

⁴ I have glorified you on the earth, having finished the work which you have given me to do.

⁸ For I have given them the words which you have given me, and they have received them and know in truth that I came from you; and they have believed that you sent me.

³⁰ She went home, and found her child lying on the bed, and the demon gone.

² And behold, a leper came and knelt before him, saying, "Lord, if you are willing, you can make me clean." ³ Then Jesus put out his hand and touched him, saying, "I am willing; be clean." Immediately his leprosy was cleansed. ⁴ And Jesus said to him, "See that you tell no one; but go your way, show yourself to the priest, and offer the gift that Moses commanded, as a testimony to them."

⁵ the blind receive their sight and the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed and the deaf hear, and the dead are raised up, and the poor have good news preached to them.

¹⁴ And when they came to the crowd, a man came up to him and kneeling before him said,

²² And it has often thrown him both into the fire and into the water to destroy him. But if you can do anything, have pity on us and help us." ²³ Jesus said to him, "If you can, all things are possible to him who believes."

¹⁷ And as he was setting out on his journey, a man ran up and knelt before him, and asked him, "Good Teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?"

¹² While he was in one of the cities, a man who was full of leprosy saw Jesus; and he fell on his face and begged him, "Lord, if you are willing, you can make me clean." ¹³ And he stretched out his hand, and touched him, saying, "I am willing; be clean." And immediately the leprosy left him. ¹⁴ And he charged him to tell no one, "But go and show yourself to the priest, and make an offering for your cleansing as a testimony to them, just as Moses commanded."

¹² As he entered a village, ten men who were lepers met him, who stood at a distance. ¹³ And they lifted up their voices and said, "Jesus, Master, have mercy on us!" ¹⁴ When he saw them, he said to them, "Go, show yourselves to the priests." And as they went, they were cleansed. ¹⁵ Then one of them, when he saw that he was healed, turned back, praising God with a loud voice; ¹⁶ and he fell on his face at Jesus' feet, giving him thanks. And he was a Samaritan. ¹⁷ Then said Jesus, "Were not ten cleansed? Where are the nine? ¹⁸ Was no one found to return and give praise to God except this foreigner?" ¹⁹ And he said to him, "Rise and go your way; your faith has made you well."

⁴¹ And he withdrew from them about a stone's throw, and knelt down and prayed,

⁶⁰ Then he fell on his knees and cried out with a loud voice, "Lord, do not hold this sin against them." And when he had said this, he fell asleep.

¹⁴ For this reason I bow my knees before the Father,

³⁶ When he saw the crowds, he had compassion for them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd.

³⁹ Then he rose and rebuked the wind, and said to the sea, "Peace! Be still!" And the wind ceased and there was a great calm.

³⁴ When Jesus went ashore he saw a great crowd, and he had compassion on them, because they were like sheep without a shepherd. So he began to teach them many things.

¹² As he came near the gate of the city, behold, a dead man was being carried out, the only son of his mother; and she was a widow. And a large crowd from the city was with her. ¹³ When the Lord saw her, he had compassion on her and said to her, "Do not weep."

³ He is the radiance of his glory and the exact representation of his being, and upholds all things by the word of his power. When he had made purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high,

¹⁷ Therefore he had to be made like his brethren in every respect, so that he might become a merciful and faithful high priest in the service of God, to make atonement for the sins of the people.

²⁸ Then Jesus answered her, "O woman, great is your faith! Be it done for you as you desire." And her daughter was healed from that very hour.

³¹ So he came and took her by the hand and lifted her up, and immediately the fever left her. And she served them.

²⁹ And immediately the bleeding stopped; and she felt in her body that she was healed of her disease.

⁵⁰ Jesus said to him, "Go; your son will live." The man believed the word that Jesus spoke to him and went his way. ⁵¹ As he was going down, his servants met him and told him that his son was living. ⁵² So he inquired of them the hour when his son got better, and they said to him, "Yesterday at the seventh hour the fever left him." ⁵³ So the father knew that it was at the same hour in which Jesus had said to him, "Your son will live." And he himself believed, and all his household.

³ You are already clean because of the word which I have spoken to you.

³⁰ And their eyes were opened. And Jesus sternly warned them, "See that no one knows it."

⁴³ He strictly charged them that no one should know this, and told them to give her something to eat.

³⁶ And he commanded them to tell no one; but the more he charged them, the more widely they proclaimed it.

⁵⁶ And her parents were astonished, but he charged them to tell no one what had happened.

⁴ And Jesus said to him, "See that you tell no one; but go your way, show yourself to the priest, and offer the gift that Moses commanded, as a testimony to them."

² "The scribes and the Pharisees sit in Moses' seat. ³ So you must observe and do whatever they tell you. But do not do what they do; for they preach, but do not practice.

¹⁴ And he charged him to tell no one, "But go and show yourself to the priest, and make an offering for your cleansing as a testimony to them, just as Moses commanded."

¹⁴ When he saw them, he said to them, "Go, show yourselves to the priests." And as they went, they were cleansed.

⁴ For whatever was written in former days was written for our instruction, that through perseverance and the encouragement of the scriptures we might have hope.

¹¹ Now these things happened to them as an example, and they were written down for our instruction, upon whom the ends of the ages have come.

¹⁵ So they took the money and did as they were instructed; and this story has been spread among the Jews to this day.

¹ And when he entered Capernaum after some days, it was heard that he was home. ² And many gathered together, so that there was no longer room to receive them, not even near the door. And he preached the word to them.

¹³ Then he went out again beside the sea; and all the crowd came to him, and he taught them.

⁷ Jesus withdrew with his disciples to the sea, and a great multitude from Galilee followed; also from Judea

¹⁵ But the report went around concerning him all the more; and great multitudes came together to hear and to be healed by him of their infirmities. ¹⁶ But he often withdrew to the wilderness and prayed. ¹⁷ One day as he was teaching, there were Pharisees and teachers of the law sitting by, who had come from every village of Galilee and Judea and from Jerusalem. And the power of the Lord was present for him to heal.

² And a great multitude followed him, because they saw his signs which he performed on those who were diseased.

¹⁰ For there are many rebellious men, empty talkers and deceivers, especially those of the circumcision.
