¹ David being old and full of days, made Solomon his son king over Israel.

⁸ And decaying he died in a good old age, and having lived a long time, and being full of days: and was gathered to his people.

²⁹ And being spent with age he died, and was gathered to his people, being old and full of days: and his sons Esau and Jacob buried him.

¹ Now king David was old, and advanced in years: and when he was covered with clothes he was not warm.

³³ He said to them: Take with you the servants of your lord, and set my son Solomon upon my mule: and bring him to Gihon: ³⁴ And let Sadoc, the priest, and Nathan, the prophet, anoint him there king over Israel: and you shall sound the trumpet, and shall say: God save king Solomon. ³⁵ And you shall come up after him, and he shall come, and shall sit upon my throne, and he shall reign in my stead: and I will appoint him to be ruler over Israel, and over Juda. ³⁶ And Banaias, the son of Joiada, answered the king, saying: Amen: so say the Lord, the God of my lord the king. ³⁷ As the Lord hath been with my lord the king, so be he with Solomon, and make his throne higher than the throne of my lord king David. ³⁸ So Sadoc, the priest, and Nathan, the prophet, went down, and Banaias, the son of Joiada, and the Cerethi, and Phelethi: and they set Solomon upon the mule of king David, and brought him to Gihon. ³⁹ And Sadoc, the priest, took a horn of oil out of the tabernacle, and anointed Solomon: and they sounded the trumpet, and all the people said: God save king Solomon.

⁵ And among my sons (for the Lord hath given me many sons) he hath chosen Solomon my son, to sit upon the throne of the kingdom of the Lord over Israel.

²² And they ate, and drank before the Lord that day with great joy. And they anointed the second time Solomon the son of David. And they anointed him to the Lord to be prince, and Sadoc to be high priest. ²³ And Solomon sat on the throne of the Lord as king instead of David his father, and he pleased all: and all Israel obeyed him. ²⁴ And all the princes, and men of power, and all the sons of king David gave their hand, and were subject to Solomon the king. ²⁵ And the Lord magnified Solomon over all Israel: and gave him the glory of a reign, such as no king of Israel had before him.

²⁸ And he died in a good age, full of days, and riches, and glory. And Solomon his son reigned in his stead.

²⁶ Thou shalt enter into the grave in abundance, as a heap of wheat is brought in in its season.
