^{1 (2:2)} And Jonas prayed to the Lord, his God, out of the belly of the fish.

¹¹ Therefore he brought upon them the captains of he army of the king of the Assyrians: and they took Manasses, and carried him bound with chains and fetters to Babylon. ¹² And after that he was in distress he prayed to the Lord his God: and did penance exceedingly before the God of his fathers. ¹³ And he entreated him, and besought him earnestly: and he heard his prayer, and brought him again to Jerusalem into his kingdom, and Manasses knew that the Lord was God.

¹⁵ Although he should kill me, I will trust in him: but yet I will reprove my ways in his sight.

¹⁵ And call upon me in the day of trouble: I will deliver thee, and thou shalt glorify me.

¹⁵ He shall cry to me, and I will hear him: I am with him in tribulation, I will deliver him, and I will glorify him.

¹ A gradual canticle. Out of the depths I have cried to thee, O Lord: ² Lord, hear my voice. Let thy ears be attentive to the voice of my supplication.

¹⁶ Lord, they have sought after thee in distress, in the tribulation of murmuring thy instruction was with them.

⁵³ Sade. My life is fallen into the pit, and they have laid a stone over me. ⁵⁴ Sade. Waters have flowed over my head: I said: I am cut off. ⁵⁵ Coph. I have called upon thy name, O Lord, from the lowest pit. ⁵⁶ Coph. Thou hast heard my voice: turn not away thy ear from my sighs, and cries.

¹⁵ I will go and return to my place: until you are consumed, and seek my face.

²⁴ Who having received such a charge, thrust them into the inner prison and made their feet fast in the stocks. ²⁵ And at midnight, Paul and Silas, praying, praised God. And they that were in prison heard them.

¹³ Is any of you sad? Let him pray: Is he cheerful in mind? Let him sing.
