¹ A psalm of David while he was in the desert of Edom. ^(63:2) O God, my God, to thee do I watch at break of day. For thee my soul hath thirsted; for thee my flesh, O how many ways!

² The Lord is my strength and my praise, and he is become salvation to me: he is my God, and I will glorify him: the God of my father, and I will exalt him.

³ So the people were thirsty there for want of water, and murmured against Moses, saying: Why didst thou make us go forth out of Egypt, to kill us and our children, and our beasts with thirst?

⁵ And Gad the prophet said to David: Abide not in the hold, depart, and go into the land of Juda. And David departed, and came into the forest of Haret.

¹⁴ But David abode in the desert in strong holds, and he remained in a mountain of the desert of Ziph, in a woody hill. And Saul sought him always: but the Lord delivered him not into his hands. ¹⁵ And David saw that Saul was come out to seek his life. And David was in the desert of Ziph, in a wood. ¹⁶ And Jonathan, the son of Saul, arose, and went to David, into the wood, and strengthened his hands in God: and he said to him:

²³ Consider, and see all his lurking holes, wherein he is hid, and return to me with the certainty of the thing, that I may go with you. And if he should even go down into the earth to hide himself, I will search him out in all the thousands of Juda. ²⁴ And they arose, and went to Ziph before Saul: and David and his men were in the desert of Maon, in the plain at the right hand of Jesimon. ²⁵ Then Saul and his men went to seek him: and it was told David, and forthwith he went down to the rock, and abode in the wilderness of Maon: and when Saul had heard of it, he pursued after David in the wilderness of Maon.

¹ And the men of Ziph came to Saul in Gabaa, saying: Behold David is hid in the hill of Hachila, which is over against the wilderness. ² And Saul arose, and went down to the wilderness of Ziph having with him three thousand chosen men of Israel, to seek David in the wilderness of Ziph. ³ And Saul encamped in Gabaa Hachila, which was over against the wilderness in the way: and David abode in the wilderness. And seeing that Saul was come after him into the wilderness,

²⁸ Behold I will lie hid in the plains of the wilderness, till there come word from you to certify me.

⁵ Yet if thou wilt arise early to God, and wilt beseech the Almighty:

¹ Unto the end, understanding for the sons of Core. ^(42:2) As the hart panteth after the fountains of water; so my soul panteth after thee, O God. ^{2 (42:3)} My soul hath thirsted after the strong living God; when shall I come and appear before the face of God?

^{11 (42:12)} Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why dost thou disquiet me? Hope thou in God, for I will still give praise to him: the salvation of my countenance, and my God.

³⁴ When he slew them, then they sought him: and they returned, and came to him early in the morning.

^{2 (84:3)} my soul longeth and fainteth for the courts of the Lord. My heart and my flesh have rejoiced in the living God.

² He shall say to the Lord: Thou art my protector, and my refuge: my God, in him will I trust.

^{3 (102:4)} For my days are vanished like smoke, and my bones are grown dry like fuel for the fire. ^{4 (102:5)} I am smitten as grass, and my heart is withered: because I forgot to eat my bread. ^{5 (102:6)} Through the voice of my groaning, my bone hath cleaved to my flesh.

²⁸ Thou art my God, and I will praise thee: thou art my God, and I will exalt thee. I will praise thee, because thou hast heard me, and art become my salvation.

⁸¹ My soul hath fainted after thy salvation: and in thy word I have very much hoped.

⁶ I stretched forth my hands to thee: my soul is as earth without water unto thee.

¹⁰ Teach me to do thy will, for thou art my God. Thy good spirit shall lead me into the right land:

²⁷ When sudden calamity shall fall on you, and destruction, as a tempest, shall be at hand: when tribulation and distress shall come upon you: ²⁸ Then shall they call upon me, and I will not hear: they shall rise in the morning, and shall not find me:

¹⁷ I love them that love me: and they that in the morning early watch for me, shall find me.

¹ In my bed by night I sought him whom my soul loveth: I sought him, and found him not. ² I will rise, and will go about the city: in the streets and the broad ways I will seek him whom my soul loveth: I sought him, and I found him not. ³ The watchmen who keep the city, found me: Have you seen him, whom my soul loveth?

⁸ I adjure you, O daughters of Jerusalem, if you find my beloved, that you tell him that I languish with love.

² And a man shall be as when one is hid from the wind, and hideth himself from a storm, as rivers of waters in drought, and the shadow of a rock that standeth out in a desert land.

⁷ And that which was dry land, shall become a pool, and the thirsty land springs of water. In the dens where dragons dwelt before, shall rise up the verdure of the reed and the bulrush.

¹⁸ I will open rivers in the high hills, and fountains in the midst of the plains: I will turn the desert into pools of waters, and the impassable land into streams of waters.

¹ At that time, saith the Lord, I will be the God of all the families of Israel, and they shall be my people.

³³ But this shall be the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel, after those days, saith the Lord: I will give my law in their bowels, and I will write it in their heart: and I will be their God, and they shall be my people.

¹⁵ I will go and return to my place: until you are consumed, and seek my face.

⁹ And I will bring the third part through the fire, and will refine them as silver is refined: and I will try them as gold is tried. They shall call on my name, and I will hear them. I will say: Thou art my people: and they shall say: The Lord is my God.

³³ Seek ye therefore first the kingdom of God, and his justice, and all these things shall be added unto you.

⁴³ And when an unclean spirit is gone out of a man he walketh through dry places seeking rest, and findeth none.

³⁷ And on the last, and great day of the festivity, Jesus stood and cried, saying: If any man thirst, let him come to me and drink.

¹⁷ Jesus saith to her: Do not touch me: for I am not yet ascended to my Father. But go to my brethren and say to them: I ascend to my Father and to your Father, to my God and to your God.

¹⁶ They shall no more hunger nor thirst: neither shall the sun fall on them, nor any heat. ¹⁷ For the Lamb, which is in the midst of the throne, shall rule them and shall lead them to the fountains of the waters of life: and God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes.
