¹⁶ Answer not a false witness against your friend.

¹⁸ and the judges inquire well: and behold, if the witness is a false witness and witnesses falsely against his brother; ¹⁹ then work to him as he intrigued to work to his brother: thus you burn the evil from among you.

⁹ Then the sovereign calls to Siba the lad of Shaul and says to him, All being to Shaul and to all his house I give to the son of your adoni: ¹⁰ and you and your sons and your servants serve the soil for him and bring in; so that the son of your adoni has bread to eat: but Mephi Bosheth the son of your adoni eats bread at my table continually. - and Siba has fifteen sons and twenty servants.

²⁴ And Mephi Bosheth the son of Shaul descends to meet the sovereign; and has neither worked his feet nor worked his upper lip nor laundered his clothes from the day the sovereign went until the day he came in shalom. ²⁵ And so be it, he comes to Yeru Shalem to meet the sovereign, and the sovereign says to him, Why went you not with me, Mephi Bosheth? ²⁶ And he says, My adoni, O sovereign, my servant deceived me: for your servant said, I harness me a he burro to ride and go to the sovereign - because your servant is lame; ²⁷ and he treaded against your servant to my adoni the sovereign; and my adoni the sovereign is as an angel of Elohim: so work whatever is good in your eyes: ²⁸ for all of the house of my father are naught but men of death to my adoni the sovereign: yet you set your servant among them who eat at your own table. What justness have I yet to cry any more to the sovereign? ²⁹ And the sovereign says to him, Why word you any more of your words? I said, You and Siba allot the field. ³⁰ And Mephi Bosheth says to the sovereign, Yes, have him take all - since my adoni the sovereign comes again in shalom to his own house.

³ He neither steps with his tongue nor works evil to his friend nor lifts a reproach against his neighbour.

¹⁸ You far removed lover and friend from me and they whom I know into darkness.

⁵ whoever covertly tongue-lashes his friend, I exterminate: a lofty eye and an enlarged heart, I am not able.

¹⁹ thus are the ways of all the greedy of greed; who take away the soul of their masters.

²⁸ A witness of lies destructs; and the man who hears, words in perpetuity.

⁵ Neither trust in a friend nor confide in a chiliarch: guard the opening of your mouth from her who lies in your bosom:

⁹ And whoever wills to be rich falls into testing and a snare; and into many mindless and injurious pantings, which sink humanity in ruin and destruction. ¹⁰ For befriending silver is the root of all evil: which, while some reach for, strayed from the trust and pierced themselves through with many griefs.
