¹ ¶ I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men, ² for kings, and for all that are in authority that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and integrity. ³ For this is good and pleasing in the sight of God our Saviour, ⁴ who desires that all men be saved and come unto the knowledge of the truth. ⁵ For there is only one God and likewise only one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, ⁶ who gave himself in ransom for all, the testimony of which was confirmed at the time, ⁷ of which I am ordained a preacher and an apostle (I speak the truth in Christ and do not lie), a teacher of the Gentiles in faith and verity. ⁸ I desire, therefore, that the men in every place, pray, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and strife. ⁹ ¶ In like manner also that the women adorn themselves in an honest manner, with shyness and modesty, not with ostentatious hair or gold or pearls or costly clothing ¹⁰ but with good works (as becomes women professing godliness). ¹¹ Let the woman learn, becoming silent in all subjection. ¹² For I do not allow a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over a mature man, but to be at rest. ¹³ For Adam was formed first, then Eve. ¹⁴ And Adam was not deceived, but the woman was deceived in the rebellion; ¹⁵ notwithstanding she shall be saved in childbearing, if she continues in faith and charity and sanctification and modesty.

²³ ¶ And Abraham drew near and said, Wilt thou also destroy the righteous with the wicked? ²⁴ Peradventure there are fifty righteous within the city; wilt thou also destroy and not spare the place for the fifty righteous that are in it? ²⁵ That be far from thee to do after this manner, to slay the righteous with the wicked and that the righteous should be treated as the wicked that are far from thee. Shall not the Judge of all the earth do right? ²⁶ And the LORD said, If I find in Sodom fifty righteous within the city, then I will spare all the place for their sakes. ²⁷ And Abraham answered and said, Behold now, I have taken upon me to speak unto the Lord, who am but dust and ashes; ²⁸ peradventure there shall lack five of the fifty righteous: wilt thou destroy all the city for lack of five? And he said, If I find there forty-five, I will not destroy it. ²⁹ And he spoke unto him yet again, and said, Peradventure there shall be forty found there. And he said, I will not do it for forty’s sake. ³⁰ And he said unto him, Oh let not the Lord now be angry if I shall speak; peradventure there shall thirty be found there. And he said, I will not do it if I find thirty there. ³¹ And he said, Behold now, I have taken upon me to speak unto the Lord; peradventure there shall be twenty found there. And he said, I will not destroy it for twenty’s sake. ³² And he said, Oh let not the Lord be angry, and I will speak yet but this once; peradventure ten shall be found there. And he said, I will not destroy it for ten’s sake.

⁴¹ Likewise concerning a stranger, that is not of thy people Israel, but comes out of a far country for thy name’s sake ⁴² (for they shall have heard of thy great name and of thy strong hand and of thy stretched out arm), when he shall come to pray in this house, ⁴³ thou shalt hear in the heavens, in the habitation of thy dwelling place, and do according to all that for which the stranger shall have called unto thee, that all peoples of the earth may know thy name and fear thee as do thy people Israel and that they may know that thy name is invoked upon this house, which I have built.

A Psalm or Song. ¶ God be merciful unto us and bless us and cause his face to shine upon us. Selah. ² That thy way may be known upon the earth, thy saving health among all the Gentiles. ³ Let the peoples praise thee, O God; let all the peoples praise thee. ⁴ O let the Gentiles be glad and sing for joy, for thou shalt judge the people righteously and shepherd the Gentiles upon the earth. Selah.

¹⁹ And blessed be his glorious name for ever, and let the whole earth be filled with his glory; Amen, and Amen.

⁹ ¶ Ye, therefore, are to pray like this: Our Father who art in the heavens, Hallowed be thy name. ¹⁰ Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.

³⁰ For the times of this ignorance God overlooked, but he now commands all men everywhere to repent

⁸ ¶ First, I thank my God through Jesus, the Christ, regarding you all, that your faith is preached in all the world.

¹⁷ Thank God that, although ye were the slaves of sin, ye have obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine unto which ye are delivered;

³ For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received: how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures

⁶ Insomuch that we exhorted Titus, that as he had begun, so he would also complete among you the same grace also.

¹³ Therefore I desire that ye faint not at my tribulations for you, which is your glory.

²⁰ giving thanks always for all things unto the God and Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ,

³ ¶ I thank my God upon every remembrance of you

¹² And the Lord make you to multiply and make charity to abound among you and toward all men, even as it is with us toward you,

³ We must thank God always for you, brethren, as is due because your faith grows exceedingly, and the charity of each and every one of you toward each other abounds,

⁴ who desires that all men be saved and come unto the knowledge of the truth.

⁵ Now she that is a widow indeed and desolate, trusts in God, and is diligent in supplications and prayers night and day,

²⁴ That the slave of the Lord should not be contentious, but be meek unto everyone, apt to teach, patient,

¹¹ ¶ For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men,

² That they speak evil of no one, that they not be contentious, but gentle, showing all meekness unto all men.

¹¹ But we desire that each one of you show the same diligence until the end for the fulfillment of your hope,

¹⁶ Confess your faults one to another and pray one for another that ye may be whole. The effectual prayer of the righteous is very powerful.

¹⁴ Issachar is a strong ass couching down between two burdens; ¹⁵ and he saw that rest was good and the land that it was pleasant and bowed his shoulder to bear and became a servant unto tribute.

¹⁹ I am one of those that are peaceable and faithful in Israel, and thou seekest to destroy a city that is a mother in Israel; why wilt thou swallow up the inheritance of the LORD?

¹⁰ that they may offer sacrifices of sweet savours unto the God of heaven and pray for the life of the king, and of his sons.

¹¹ O Lord, I beseech thee, let now thine ear be attentive to the prayer of thy slave and to the prayer of thy slaves who desire to fear thy name; and prosper, I pray thee, thy slave this day, and grant him grace before this man. For I was the king’s cupbearer.

A Psalm of David. ¶ Let the LORD hear thee in the day of trouble; let the name of the God of Jacob lift thee up ² and send thee help from the sanctuary and strengthen thee out of Zion ³ and remember all thy offerings and reduce thy burnt sacrifice to the ashes of burnt fat, Selah. ⁴ Grant thee according to thine heart and fulfil all thy counsel.

¹ A Psalm for Solomon. ¶ Give the king thy judgments, O God, and thy righteousness unto the king’s son.

²¹ ¶ My son, fear the LORD and the king, and do not meddle with those that are given to change,

¹² I have learned that there is nothing better for them, but to rejoice and to do good in his life. ¹³ And also that every man should eat and drink and enjoy the good of all his labour; it is the gift of God.

² I counsel thee to keep the king’s commandment and the word of the covenant that thou hast made with God. ³ Do not be hasty to rebel against him; do not persist in any evil thing, for he shall do whatsoever pleases him; ⁴ because the word of the king is his power and who may say unto him, What doest thou? ⁵ Whosoever keeps the commandment shall experience no evil thing, and a wise man’s heart discerns both time and judgment.

⁷ And seek the peace of the city where I have caused you to be carried away captives, and pray unto the LORD for it; for in the peace thereof shall ye have peace.

⁶ And they were both righteous before God, walking in all the commandments and ordinances of the Lord, blameless.

²⁵ ¶ And, behold, there was a man in Jerusalem whose name was Simeon, and the same man was just and devout, waiting for the consolation of Israel, and the Holy Spirit was upon him.

²² And they said, Cornelius the centurion, a just man and one that fears God and of good report among all the nation of the Jews, was warned from God by a holy angel to send for thee into his house and to hear words of thee.

¹⁶ And for this reason do I exercise myself to have always a conscience void of offense toward God and toward men.

¹⁸ If it can be done, as much as is possible on your part, live in peace with all men.

¹ ¶ Let every soul submit itself to the higher powers. For there is no power but of God, and the powers that be are ordained of God. ² Whosoever therefore resists the power, resists the ordinance of God, and those that resist shall receive condemnation to themselves. ³ For the magistrates are not a terror unto those who do good, but to the doer of evil. Is thy desire therefore to not fear the power? do that which is good, and thou shalt have praise of the same; ⁴ for he is a minister of God for thy good. But if thou do that which is evil, be afraid; for he does not bear the sword in vain, for he is a minister of God, a revenger to execute wrath upon him that does evil. ⁵ Therefore it is necessary that ye be subject, not only for punishment, but also for conscience sake. ⁶ For this cause ye also pay them tribute, for they are God’s ministers, attending continually to this very thing. ⁷ ¶ Render therefore to all their dues: tribute to whom tribute is due; custom to whom custom; fear to whom fear; honour to whom honour.

⁸ Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are honest, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is any praise, exercise yourselves in these things.

¹¹ and that ye procure to be quiet and to do your business and to work with your hands, as we commanded you,

¹⁰ not defrauding, but showing all good fidelity; that they may adorn the doctrine of God our Saviour in all things. ¹¹ ¶ For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men, ¹² teaching us that denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live temperately, righteously, and godly in this present world; ¹³ waiting for that blessed hope and the glorious appearing of our great God and Saviour Jesus Christ, ¹⁴ who gave himself for us that he might redeem us from all iniquity and purify unto himself a people of his own, zealous of good works.

¹⁴ Follow peace with everyone and holiness, without which no one shall see the Lord:

⁹ But ye are the chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, an acquired people, that ye should show forth the virtues of him who has called you out of darkness into his marvellous light. ¹⁰ Ye who in the time past were not a people, but are now the people of God, who in the time past had not obtained mercy, but now have obtained mercy. ¹¹ Dearly beloved, I beseech you as strangers and pilgrims, abstain from the carnal desires which war against the soul ¹² and have your honest conversation among the Gentiles, so that, in that which they murmur about you as of evildoers, having witnessed your good works, they may glorify God in the day of visitation. ¹³ ¶ Therefore, be subject to every human ordinance that is of the Lord, whether it be to a king or to a superior,

³ as all things that pertain to life and to godliness are given us of his divine power, through the knowledge of him that has called us by his glory and virtue, ⁴ whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises, that by these ye might be made participants of the divine nature, having fled the corruption that is in the world through lust. ⁵ ¶ Ye also, giving all diligence to the same, show forth virtue in your faith; and in virtue, knowledge; ⁶ and in knowledge, temperance; and in temperance, patience; and in patience, fear of God; ⁷ and in fear of God, brotherly love; and in brotherly love, charity.

²¹ Tell ye, and bring them near; yea, let them take counsel together; who caused this to be heard from the beginning and has declared it from that time, except me, the LORD? and there is no God beside me; a just God and a Saviour; there is no one besides me.

⁴⁷ and my spirit has rejoiced in God my Saving Health,

¹ ¶ Therefore, I beseech you brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies in living sacrifice, holy, well pleasing unto God, which is your rational worship. ² And be not conformed to this age, but be ye transformed by the renewing of your soul that ye may experience what is that good and well pleasing and perfect will of God.

¹⁸ For he that in these things serves the Christ is well pleasing unto God and approved of men.

⁹ (For the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness and righteousness and truth), ¹⁰ approving what is well pleasing unto the Lord.

¹¹ being filled with fruits of righteousness, which are by Jesus Christ, unto the glory and praise of God.

¹⁸ But I have all and abound; I am full, having received of Epaphroditus the things which were sent from you, an odour of a sweet smell, a sacrifice acceptable, wellpleasing to God.

¹⁰ that ye might walk worthy of the Lord, pleasing him in everything, being fruitful in every good work, and growing in the knowledge of God,

¹ ¶ It is in order then, brethren, that we beseech and exhort you in the Lord Jesus, that in the manner ye were taught of us how ye ought to walk and to please God, so ye would continue to grow.

¹ ¶ Paul, apostle of Jesus Christ by the commandment of God, our Saviour and the Lord Jesus Christ, our hope,

⁴ But if any widow has children or grandchildren, let those learn first to govern their house in piety and to recompense their parents, for this is honest and pleasing before God.

⁹ who has saved us and called us with a holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the times of the ages,

¹⁶ Do not forget to do good and to fellowship; for with such sacrifices God is well pleased.

⁵ ye also, as living stones, are built up a spiritual house, a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, well pleasing to God by Jesus, the Christ.

²⁰ For what glory is it if, when ye are buffeted for your faults, ye shall take it patiently? but if, when ye do well and suffer for it, ye take it patiently, this is due to grace from God.

²² Look unto me, and be ye saved, all the ends of the earth; for I am God, and there is no one else.

⁶ And he said, It is a light thing that thou should be my slave to wake up the tribes of Jacob and to restore the desolations of Israel; I have also given thee for a light to the Gentiles that thou may be my saving health unto the end of the earth.

¹¹ He shall see of the travail of his soul and shall be satisfied. And by his knowledge shall my righteous slave justify many, for he shall bear their iniquities.

¹ ¶ Ho, every one that thirsts, come ye to the waters, and he that has no money; come ye, buy, and eat; come, buy wine and milk without money and without price.

²³ Do I desire perchance the death of the wicked? said the Lord GOD, Shall he not live if he should leave his ways?

³² For I do not desire the death of him that dies, said the Lord GOD; therefore turn yourselves, and ye shall live.

¹¹ Say unto them, As I live, said the Lord GOD, I do not desire the death of the wicked but that the wicked turn from his way and that he live; turn ye, turn ye from your evil ways; for why will ye die, O house of Israel?

¹⁴ For the earth shall be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the LORD as the waters cover the sea.

¹⁹ Go ye therefore and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,

¹⁵ And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature.

⁷⁷ giving knowledge of saving health unto his people for the remission of their sins

²³ And the lord said unto the slave, Go out into the highways and hedges and compel them to come in that my house may be filled.

⁴⁷ and that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning from Jerusalem.

¹⁵ that whosoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. ¹⁶ For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. ¹⁷ For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through him might be saved.

³⁷ All that the Father gives me shall come to me, and he that comes to me I will in no wise cast out.

⁶ Jesus said unto him, I AM the way, the truth, and the life; no one comes unto the Father, but by me.

¹⁷ ¶ Sanctify them in thy truth; thy word is the truth.

²⁹ Is he the God of the Jews only? Is he not also of the Gentiles? Yes, of the Gentiles also, ³⁰ seeing it is one God who shall justify the circumcision by faith and the uncircumcision by faith.

¹² ¶ For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek, for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him. ¹³ For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. ¹⁴ How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher? ¹⁵ And how shall they preach if they have not been sent? as it is written, How beautiful are the feet of those that announce the gospel of peace, of those that announce the gospel of that which is good!

¹⁷ Therefore if anyone is in Christ, they are a new creation: old things are passed away; behold, all things are made new. ¹⁸ And all this by God, who reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and gave us the ministry of reconciliation; ¹⁹ for certainly God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them and having placed in us the word of reconciliation.

¹⁵ who killed both the Lord Jesus and their own prophets and have persecuted us, and they do not please God and are contrary to all men, ¹⁶ forbidding us to speak to the Gentiles that they might be saved, to fill up the measure of their sins always, for the wrath of God has come upon them to the uttermost.

¹⁰ For this we both labour and suffer reproach, because we trust in the living God, who is the Saviour of all men, specially of those that believe.

²⁵ that with meekness they might teach those that resist, if God peradventure will grant unto them that they might repent and know the truth,

⁷ ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.

¹ ¶ Paul, slave of God, and apostle of Jesus Christ, according to the faith of God’s elect and the knowledge of the truth which is according to godliness;

²⁶ For if we sin wilfully after we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remains no more sacrifice for sins,

⁹ ¶ The Lord is not late concerning his promise, as some count lateness, but is patient with us, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.

⁶ ¶ And I saw another angel fly in the midst of heaven, having the eternal gospel that he might evangelize those that dwell on the earth and every nation and kindred and tongue and people,

⁴ ¶ Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God is one LORD.

³³ Neither is there any arbiter between us, that might lay his hand upon us both.

⁶ Thus saith the LORD the King of Israel and his redeemer, the LORD of the hosts; I am the first, and I am the last; and beside me there is no God.

²³ Behold, a virgin shall conceive and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is God With Us.

²⁹ And Jesus responded unto him, The principal of all the commandments is, Hear, O Israel, The Lord our God, the Lord is one; ³⁰ and thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart and with all thy soul and with all thy thought and with all thy strength: this is the principal commandment. ³¹ And the second is like it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. There is no other commandment greater than these. ³² Then the scribe said unto him, Well, Master, thou hast said the truth, that God is one, and there is none other outside of him; ³³ and to love him with all the heart and with all the understanding and with all the soul and with all the strength and to love his neighbour as himself is more than all the burnt offerings and sacrifices.

¹⁰ But the angel said unto them, Fear not; for, behold, I bring you a gospel of great joy, which shall be to all the people. ¹¹ For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, who is Christ the Lord.

¹⁴ And the Word was made flesh and dwelt among us (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father), full of grace and truth.

³ And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent.

¹² ¶ For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek, for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him.

⁴ ¶ As concerning, therefore, the eating of those things that are offered in sacrifice unto idols, we know that an idol is nothing in the world, and that there is no other God but one.

⁶ but to us there is but one God, the Father, of whom are all things, and we in him; and one Lord, Jesus Christ, by whom are all things, and we by him.

⁴⁵ And so it is written, The first man Adam was made a living soul; the last Adam was made a life-giving Spirit. ⁴⁶ Howbeit the spiritual is not first, but the natural; and afterward, that which is spiritual. ⁴⁷ The first man is of the earth, earthy; the second man is the Lord of heaven.

²⁰ Now a mediator is not a mediator of one, but God is one.

⁶ one God and Father of all, who is above all and through all, and in you all.

⁶ who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God, ⁷ but emptied himself, taking the form of a slave, made in the likeness of men, ⁸ and being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross {Gr. stauros – stake}.

⁶ But one in a certain place testified, saying, What is man, that thou art mindful of him? or the son of man, that thou dost visit him? ⁷ Thou didst make him a little lower than the angels; thou didst crown him with glory and honour and didst set him over the works of thy hands. ⁸ Thou hast put all things in subjection under his feet. For in that he put all in subjection under him, he left nothing that is not put under him. But now we do not see yet that all things are put under him. ⁹ But we see this same Jesus, crowned with glory and honour, who was made a little lower than the angels for the suffering of death, that he by the grace of God should taste death for every man. ¹⁰ ¶ For it was expedient that he, for whom are all things and by whom are all things, preparing to bring forth many sons in his glory, should perfect the author of their saving health through sufferings. ¹¹ For both he that sanctifies and those who are sanctified are all of one, for which cause he is not ashamed to call them brethren, ¹² saying, I will declare thy name unto my brethren; in the midst of the congregation I will praise thee. ¹³ And again, I will put my trust in him. And again, Behold I and the children which God has given me.

²⁵ Therefore he is able also to save to the uttermost those that come unto God by him, seeing he ever lives to make intercession for them.

⁶ ¶ but now a more excellent ministry is his, in that he is the mediator of a better testament, which was established upon better promises.

¹⁵ ¶ And for this cause he is the mediator of the new testament, so that death intervening for the redemption of the rebellions that took place under the first testament, those who are called might receive the promise of the eternal inheritance.

²⁴ and to Jesus, the mediator of the new testament and to the blood of sprinkling, that speaks better than that of Abel.

¹³ and in the midst of the seven lampstands one like unto the Son of man, clothed with a garment down to the feet and girt about the breasts with a golden girdle.

²⁴ to tell him that God had mercy on him, that he delivered him from going down to the pit; that he found a ransom;

⁶ All we like sheep have become lost; we have turned each one to his own way; and the LORD transposed in him the iniquity of us all.

²⁸ even as the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister and to give his life a ransom for many.

⁴⁵ For even the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to serve and to give his life in ransom for many.

⁵¹ I AM the living bread which came down from heaven; if anyone eats of this bread, they shall live for ever; and the bread that I will give is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world.

¹⁵ As the Father knows me, even so I know the Father, and I lay down my soul for the sheep.

⁶ ¶ For the Christ, when we were yet weak, in his time died for the ungodly.

²⁶ but now is made manifest, and by the writings of the prophets, by the commandment of God eternal, declared unto all the Gentiles, that they might hear and obey by faith,

⁶ with which the testimony of the Christ was confirmed in you,

¹⁴ For the charity of the Christ constrains us because we judge thus: that if one died for all, then all are dead: ¹⁵ And that he died for all that those who live should not live from now on unto themselves, but unto him who died and rose again for them.

²¹ For he has made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin, that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.

⁴ but when the fullness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, born of a woman, born under the law,

⁷ in whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins according to the riches of his grace,

⁹ having made known unto us the mystery of his will, according to his good pleasure which he has purposed in himself, ¹⁰ that in the dispensation of the fulfillment of the times he might restore all things by the Christ, both those which are in heaven and those which are on earth,

¹⁷ that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him;

⁵ which in other generations was not made known unto the sons of men as it is now revealed unto his holy apostles and prophets in the Spirit,

² and walk in charity even as the Christ also has loved us and has given himself for us as an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet smelling savour.

¹⁰ when he shall come to be glorified in his saints and to be admired in all those that believe (because our testimony among you was believed) in that day.

¹⁵ who in his time shall show the blessed and only Potentate, the King of kings, and Lord of lords;

⁸ Therefore be not thou ashamed to give testimony of our Lord, nor of me his prisoner, but be thou partaker of the afflictions of the gospel by the power of God,

³ and has manifested in due times. It is his word through preaching, which is committed unto me according to the commandment of God our Saviour;

¹⁴ who gave himself for us that he might redeem us from all iniquity and purify unto himself a people of his own, zealous of good works.

¹² neither by the blood of goats and calves, but by his own blood he entered in once into the sanctuary designed for eternal redemption.

¹⁸ knowing that ye have been ransomed from your vain conversation (which you received from your fathers), not with corruptible things like silver and gold, ¹⁹ but with the precious blood of the Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without contamination,

²⁴ he himself bore our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness; by whose wound ye were healed.

¹⁸ ¶ For the Christ also has once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but made alive in spirit,

¹ ¶ My little children, I write these things unto you, that ye sin not; and if anyone has sinned, we have an Advocate before the Father, Jesus, the righteous Christ; ² and he is the reconciliation for our sins, and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world.

¹⁰ In this does the charity consist, not because we had loved God, but because he loved us and has sent his Son to be the reconciliation for our sins.

¹¹ And this is the witness, that God has given eternal life to us, and this life is in his Son. ¹² He that has the Son has life; and he that does not have the Son of God does not have life.

⁵ and from Jesus, the Christ, who is the faithful witness and the first begotten of the dead and the prince of the kings of the earth. Unto him that loved us and washed us from our sins with his own blood

⁹ And they sang a new song, saying, Thou art worthy to take the book and to open its seals, for thou wast slain and hast redeemed us unto God by thy blood, out of every kindred and tongue and people and nation

⁷ Mem The works of his hands are truth and judgment; Nun all his commandments are sure.

¹ ¶ The words of the Preacher, the son of David, king in Jerusalem. ² Vanity of vanities, saith the Preacher, vanity of vanities; all is vanity.

¹² ¶ I the Preacher was king over Israel in Jerusalem.

²⁷ Behold, this I have found, saith the preacher, weighing things one by one to find out the answer,

⁸ ¶ Vanity of vanities, saith the preacher; all is vanity. ⁹ And the wiser the preacher became that much more did he teach wisdom to the people, causing them to listen and to search things out, and he composed many proverbs. ¹⁰ The preacher sought to find willing words and upright writings, even words of truth.

³⁵ Then the Jews said among themselves, Where will he go that we shall not find him? Will he go unto the dispersed among the Greeks and teach the Greeks?

¹⁵ But the Lord said unto him, Go; for he is a chosen vessel unto me, to bear my name before the Gentiles and kings and the sons of Israel;

²⁷ And when they were come and had gathered the congregation {Gr. ekklesia – called out ones} together, they related what great things God had done with them and how he had opened the door of faith unto the Gentiles.

²¹ And he said unto me, Depart, for I will send thee far from here unto the Gentiles.

¹⁷ delivering thee from the people and from the Gentiles, unto whom now I send thee ¹⁸ to open their eyes and to turn them from darkness to light and from the power of Satan unto God, that they may receive remission of sins and inheritance among those who are sanctified by the faith that is in me.

²⁰ but I announced first unto those of Damascus and at Jerusalem and throughout all the coasts of Judaea and then to the Gentiles that they should repent and turn to God, doing works worthy of repentance.

⁹ For God is my witness, whom I serve in my spirit in the gospel of his Son, that without ceasing I always remember you in my prayers,

¹ ¶ I say the truth in Christ, I do not lie, my conscience also bearing me witness in the Holy Spirit,

¹⁴ How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher?

¹³ For (I call you Gentiles) inasmuch as I am truly the apostle of the Gentiles, my honorable ministry,

¹⁶ being the minister of Jesus Christ, to the Gentiles, ministering the gospel of God, that the offering of the Gentiles might be well pleasing, sanctified by the Holy Spirit.

³¹ The God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who is blessed for evermore, knows that I do not lie.

¹⁶ to reveal his Son in me that I might preach him among the Gentiles, immediately I did not confer with flesh and blood,

²⁰ Now the things which I write unto you, behold, before God, I do not lie.

⁹ and when James, Cephas, and John, who seemed to be pillars, perceived the grace that was given unto me, they gave to me and Barnabas the right hand of fellowship that we should go unto the Gentiles, and they unto the circumcision.

¹⁶ knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith of Christ, and not by the works of the law; for by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified.

⁹ So then those who are of faith are blessed with Abraham, the believer.

⁷ of which I was made a minister, according to the gift of the grace of God given unto me by the operation of his power. ⁸ Unto me, who am less than the least of all saints, is this grace given that I should preach among the Gentiles the unsearchable riches of the Christ

¹¹ according to the gospel of the glory of the blessed God, which was committed to my trust. ¹² ¶ And I thank Christ Jesus our Lord, who has enabled me, for he counted me faithful, putting me into the ministry,

¹¹ unto which I am appointed a preacher and an apostle and a teacher of the Gentiles.

⁵ and if he did not forgive the old world, but kept Noah, a preacher of righteousness, with seven other persons, bringing in the flood upon the world of the ungodly;

¹¹ And God said unto him, Because thou hast asked this thing and hast not asked for thyself long life neither hast asked riches for thyself nor hast asked the life of thine enemies, but hast asked for thyself understanding to hear judgment,

¹¹ ¶ Therefore, the LORD brought upon them the princes of the host of the king of Assyria who took Manasseh and bound him with fetters of brass and carried him to Babylon. ¹² And when he was in affliction, he besought the LORD his God and humbled himself greatly before the God of his fathers,

¹⁷ ¶ even though there is no injustice in my hands, and my prayer has been pure.

⁴ He that has clean hands and a pure heart, who has not taken my name in vain, nor sworn deceitfully.

⁶ ¶ I will wash my hands in innocency, so I will walk near unto thine altar, O LORD:

¹³ But as for me, when they were sick, my clothing was sackcloth; I humbled my soul with fasting, and my prayer rose up in my bosom.

⁴ Thus will I bless thee in my life; in thy name shall I lift up my hands.

¹⁸ If I regard iniquity in my heart, the Lord will not hear me:

¹ A Song of degrees. ¶ Out of the depths I cry unto thee, O LORD. ² Lord, hear my voice; let thine ears be attentive to the voice of my supplications.

² Lift up your hands in the sanctuary, and bless the LORD.

⁸ ¶ The sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination to the LORD, but the prayer of the upright is his delight.

²⁷ ¶ The sacrifice of the wicked is abomination; how much more, when he brings it with lewdness?

¹⁵ And when ye spread forth your hands, I will hide my eyes from you; likewise, when ye make many prayers, I will not hear; your hands are full of blood.

⁷ Is it not to share thy bread with the hungry and that thou bring the poor that are cast out into thy house? when thou seest the naked, that thou cover him; and that thou not hide thyself from thy brother? ⁸ ¶ Then shall thy light break forth as the morning, and thine health shall spring forth speedily: and thy righteousness shall go before thee; the glory of the LORD shall gather thee. ⁹ Then shalt thou call, and thou shalt hear the LORD; thou shalt cry, and he shall say, Here I am. If thou take away from the midst of thee the yoke, the putting forth of the finger, and speaking vanity; ¹⁰ and if thou pour out thy soul to the hungry, and satisfy the afflicted soul; then shall thy light rise in obscurity, and thy darkness be as the noonday: ¹¹ And the LORD shall guide thee continually, and satisfy thy soul in drought, and make fat thy bones: and thou shalt be like a watered garden, and like a spring of water, whose waters do not fail.

⁹ Will ye steal, murder, and commit adultery, and swear falsely, and burn incense unto Baal, and walk after other gods whom ye know not, ¹⁰ and come and stand before me in this house, which is called by my name, and say, We are free to do all these abominations?

⁵⁵ ¶ Koph I called upon thy name, O LORD, out of the low dungeon. ⁵⁶ Koph Thou hast heard my voice; do not hide thine ear at my cry that I might breath.

¹ ¶ Then Jonah prayed unto the LORD his God out of the fish’s belly, ² and said, I cried by reason of my tribulation unto the LORD, and he heard me; out of the belly of Sheol I cried, and thou didst hear my voice.

⁹ And now, therefore, beseech the face of God, and he will have compassion on us; this has come by your hand: will he regard your persons? said the LORD of the hosts. ¹⁰ Who is there even among you that would shut the doors or tend the fire on my altar for free? I have no pleasure in you, said the LORD of the hosts, neither will the offering from your hand be agreeable unto me. ¹¹ For from the rising of the sun even unto the going down of the same, my name is great among the Gentiles; and in every place incense is offered unto my name, and a clean offering; for my name is great among the Gentiles, said the LORD of the hosts.

²² but I say unto you, That whosoever is angry with his brother out of control shall be in danger of the judgment, and whosoever shall insult his brother shall be in danger of the council, but whosoever shall say, Thou art impious, shall be in danger of hell. ²³ Therefore if thou bring thy gift to the altar, and there remember that thy brother has something against thee; ²⁴ leave thy gift there before the altar, and go; first restore friendship with thy brother, and then come and offer thy gift.

⁴⁴ But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless those that curse you, do good to those that hate you, and pray for those who speak evil about you, and persecute you;

¹² And set us free from our debts, as we set free our debtors.

¹⁴ For if ye set men free from their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also set you free; ¹⁵ but if ye do not set men free from their trespasses, neither will your Father set you free from your trespasses.

²¹ Jesus answered and said unto them, Verily I say unto you, If ye have faith and doubt not, ye shall not only do this to the fig tree, but also if ye shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea, it shall be done.

²³ For verily I say unto you that whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Remove thyself and cast thyself into the sea, and shall not doubt in his heart but shall believe that what he says shall be done whatsoever he says shall be done unto him. ²⁴ Therefore I say unto you that everything that ye ask for, praying, believe that ye receive it, and it shall come upon you. ²⁵ And when ye are praying, forgive if ye have anything against anyone, so that your Father who is in the heavens will also forgive you your trespasses.

³⁴ Then Jesus said, Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do. And they parted his raiment and cast lots.

⁴² And he said unto Jesus, Lord, remember me when thou comest into thy kingdom. ⁴³ And Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, Today shalt thou be with me in paradise.

⁵⁰ ¶ And he led them out as far as to Bethany, and he lifted up his hands and blessed them.

²¹ Jesus said unto her, Woman, believe me, the hour comes when neither in this mountain nor in Jerusalem shall ye worship the Father.

²³ But the hour comes, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth, for the Father seeks such to worship him. ²⁴ God is a Spirit and those that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.

⁶⁰ And he kneeled down and cried with a loud voice, Lord, impute not this sin to their charge. And having said this, he fell asleep in the Lord.

² a devout man and one that feared God with all his house, who gave many alms to the people and prayed to God always.

⁴ And when he looked on him, he was afraid and said, What is it, Lord? And he said unto him, Thy prayers and thine alms {lit. thine acts of mercy} are come up for a memorial before God.

³¹ and said, Cornelius, thy prayer is heard and thine alms are had in remembrance in the sight of God.

⁵ And when we had accomplished those days, we departed; and they all brought us on our way, with wives and children, until we were out of the city; and we knelt down on the shore and prayed.

⁷ For I would that all men were even as I myself. But each one has his own gift from God, one after this manner and another after that.

¹⁴ I desire therefore that the younger women marry, bear children, govern the house, giving no occasion to the adversary to speak reproachfully.

⁸ The Word is faithful, and I desire that thou affirm this constantly, that those who have believed God might be careful to conduct themselves in good works. This is good and profitable unto men.

²² let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts purified from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water;

⁶ But ask in faith, not doubting anything. For he that doubts is like the wave of the sea which is driven of the wind and is tossed from one side to another. ⁷ For let not such a man think that he shall receive anything of the Lord. ⁸ The double minded man is unstable in all his ways.

⁸ Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded.

⁷ Likewise, ye husbands, dwell with them wisely, giving honour unto the woman, as unto a more fragile vessel and as being heirs together of the grace of life, that your prayers not be hindered.

²⁰ ¶ And if our heart condemns us, God is greater than our heart and knows all things. ²¹ Beloved, if our heart does not condemn us, then we have confidence in God; ²² and whatsoever we ask, we receive of him because we keep his commandments and do those things that are pleasing in his sight.

⁵³ And the slave brought forth vessels of silver and vessels of gold and raiment and gave them to Rebekah; he also gave precious things to her brother and to her mother.

²² And they came, both men and women, as many as were willing hearted, and brought chains and earrings, rings and bracelets, and all jewels of gold; and anyone that offered an offering of gold unto the LORD. ²³ Every man who had blue or purple or scarlet or fine linen or goats’ hair or red skins of rams or badgers’ skins brought them.

³⁰ ¶ And Jehu came to Jezreel, and when Jezebel heard of it, she painted her face and tired her head and looked out of a window.

¹ ¶ Now it came to pass on the third day, that Esther put on her royal apparel, and stood in the inner court of the king’s house, over against the king’s house; and the king sat upon his royal throne in the royal house, over against the gate of the house.

¹³ The king’s daughter is all glorious within: her clothing is of wrought gold. ¹⁴ She shall be brought unto the king in raiment of needlework; the virgins her companions that follow her shall be brought unto thee.

⁴ For the LORD takes pleasure in his people; he will beautify the humble with saving health.

¹⁰ and, behold, a woman met him with the attire of a harlot, and subtil of heart.

²² Mem She makes herself tapestries; her clothing is of fine linen and purple.

¹⁶ ¶ Moreover the LORD saith, Because the daughters of Zion are haughty and walk with stretched forth necks and wanton eyes, walking and swaggering as they go, and making a tinkling with their feet:

¹⁸ In that day the Lord will take away the adornment of their shoes and their hair nets and their crystals, ¹⁹ the chains and the jewels and the bracelets, ²⁰ the bonnets and the ornaments of the legs and the headbands and the powders and the earrings, ²¹ the rings, and nose jewels, ²² the changeable suits of apparel and the mantles and the veils and the crisping pins, ²³ the looking glasses and the fine linen and the hoods and the hairdos. ²⁴ And it shall come to pass that instead of sweet perfumes, there shall be stink; and instead of a girdle a rent and instead of well-set hair baldness and instead of a stomacher a girding of sackcloth and burning instead of beauty.

⁴ ¶ And they shall build the old wastes; they shall raise up the former desolations, and they shall restore the waste cities, the desolations of many generations.

³² Shall the virgin, perchance, forget her ornaments, or a bride her attire? yet my people have forgotten me days without number.

³⁰ And thou who art destroyed, what wilt thou do? Though thou clothe thyself with crimson, though thou deck thee with ornaments of gold, though thou paint thy eyes with antimony, in vain shalt thou make thyself fair; thy lovers will despise thee; they will seek thy life.

⁹ and I washed thee with water and washed away thy blood from upon thee, and I anointed thee with oil. ¹⁰ I clothed thee also with broidered work and shod thee with badgers’ skin, and I girded thee about with fine linen, and I clothed thee with silk. ¹¹ I decked thee also with ornaments, and I put bracelets upon thy arms and a chain on thy neck. ¹² And I put nose rings upon thy nostrils and earrings in thine ears and a diadem of beauty upon thine head. ¹³ Thus wast thou decked with gold and silver; and thy raiment was of fine linen and silk and broidered work; thou didst eat fine flour of wheat and honey and oil: and thou wast made exceeding beautiful, and thou hast prospered even until thou hast reigned. ¹⁴ And thy renown went forth among the Gentiles for thy beauty; for it was perfect because of my beauty which I placed upon thee, said the Lord GOD. ¹⁵ ¶ But thou didst trust in thine own beauty and didst play the harlot because of thy renown and didst pour out thy fornications on every one that passed by; thou wert his. ¹⁶ And of thy garments thou didst take and make altars of divers colours and play the harlot thereupon; the like shall not come again, neither shall it be so.

²⁸ And why take ye thought for raiment? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they toil not, neither do they spin; ²⁹ and yet I say unto you, That even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.

⁸ But what did you go out to see? A man clothed in soft raiment? Behold, those that wear soft clothing are in kings’ houses.

³ The aged women likewise, that they be in behaviour as becomes holiness, not false accusers, not given to much wine, teachers of honesty; ⁴ that they may teach the young women to be prudent, to love their husbands, to love their children, ⁵ to be temperate, chaste, good housekeepers, subject to their own husbands, that the word of God not be blasphemed.

³ Let their adorning not be outward with ostentatious hairdos and wearing of gold nor in composition of apparel, ⁴ but let the interior adorning of the heart be without corruption, and of an agreeable spirit and peaceful, which is precious in the sight of God. ⁵ For after this manner in the old time the holy women also, who waited upon God, adorned themselves, being in subjection unto their own husbands,

³¹ Tau Give her of the fruit of her hands, and let her own works praise her in the gates.

³⁶ ¶ Now there was at Joppa a certain disciple named Tabitha, which by interpretation is called Dorcas; this woman was full of good works and alms-deeds {lit. acts of mercy} which she did.

³⁹ Then Peter arose and went with them. When he was come, they brought him into the upper chamber: and all the widows stood by him weeping and showing the coats and garments which Dorcas had made them while she was with them.

¹⁰ For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God has prepared that we should walk in them.

⁶ but she that lives in pleasure is dead while she lives. ⁷ Therefore command these things, that they may be blameless. ⁸ But if any provide not for his own and specially for those of his own house, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever. ⁹ Let a widow be placed on the list being not less than sixty years old, having been the wife of one man, ¹⁰ having a good testimony of good works, if she has brought up well her children, if she has exercised hospitality, if she has washed the feet of the saints, if she has relieved the afflicted, if she has diligently followed every good work.

¹² and have your honest conversation among the Gentiles, so that, in that which they murmur about you as of evildoers, having witnessed your good works, they may glorify God in the day of visitation.

⁶ and in knowledge, temperance; and in temperance, patience; and in patience, fear of God; ⁷ and in fear of God, brotherly love; and in brotherly love, charity. ⁸ For if these things are in you and abound, they shall not let you be idle nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.

¹¹ ¶ Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness,

¹⁹ I have known thy works and charity and service and faith and thy patience and thy works and the last to be more than the first.

¹⁶ ¶ Unto the woman he said, I will greatly multiply thy sorrow and thy conception; in sorrow thou shalt bring forth sons; and thy desire shall be to thy husband, and he shall rule over thee.

²⁰ And this sentence which the king shall make shall be heard throughout all his empire, although it is great, and all the wives shall give their husbands honour, from the greatest to the least.

³ But I would have you know that the head of every man is the Christ, and the head of the woman is the man, and the head of Christ is God.

³⁴ ¶ Let your women keep silence in the congregations {Gr. ekklesia – called out ones}, for it is not permitted unto them to speak; but they are commanded to be in subjection, as also saith the law. ³⁵ And if they desire to learn anything, let them ask their husbands at home, for it is a dishonest thing for women to speak in the congregation {Gr. ekklesia – called out one}.

²² Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husband, as unto the Lord. ²³ For the husband is the head of the wife even as the Christ is head of the congregation {Gr. ekklesia – called out ones}, and it is he who gives saving health to the body. ²⁴ Therefore, as the congregation {Gr. ekklesia – called out ones} is subject unto the Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in everything.

¹⁸ ¶ Wives, be subject to your own husbands as it is fit in the Lord.

⁵ to be temperate, chaste, good housekeepers, subject to their own husbands, that the word of God not be blasphemed.

¹ ¶ Likewise, ye wives, be in subjection to your own husbands, so that also those who do not obey the Word, may be won without a word by the conversation of their wives,

⁵ For after this manner in the old time the holy women also, who waited upon God, adorned themselves, being in subjection unto their own husbands, ⁶ as Sara obeyed Abraham, calling him lord, of whom ye are made daughters, doing well and not being afraid of any terror.

³⁴ ¶ Let your women keep silence in the congregations {Gr. ekklesia – called out ones}, for it is not permitted unto them to speak; but they are commanded to be in subjection, as also saith the law.

²⁷ So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.

⁷ And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and man became a living soul.

¹⁸ ¶ And the LORD God said, It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him a help meet for him.

²² and the LORD God built that which he had taken from the side of the man into a woman and brought her unto the man.

⁸ For the man is not of the woman, but the woman of the man. ⁹ Neither was the man created for the woman, but the woman for the man.

⁶ ¶ And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was desirable to the eyes, and a tree of covetousness to understand, she took of its fruit and ate and gave also unto her husband with her; and he ate.

¹² And the man said, The woman whom thou gavest to be with me, she gave me of the tree, and I ate. ¹³ Then the LORD God said unto the woman, What is this that thou hast done? And the woman said, The serpent beguiled me, and I ate.

³ But I fear that as the serpent deceived Eve through his craftiness, so your senses should be corrupted in some way, and ye should fall from the simplicity that is in the Christ.

¹⁵ and I will put enmity between thee and the woman and between thy seed and her seed; that seed shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel. ¹⁶ ¶ Unto the woman he said, I will greatly multiply thy sorrow and thy conception; in sorrow thou shalt bring forth sons; and thy desire shall be to thy husband, and he shall rule over thee.

¹⁴ Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign: Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son and shall call his name Immanuel.

⁶ For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given, and the government is placed upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called The Wonderful One, The Counsellor, The God, The Mighty One, The Eternal Father, The Prince of Peace.

²² How long wilt thou wander, O thou backsliding daughter? for the LORD will bring forth a new thing upon the earth, A woman shall compass the man.

²¹ And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name Jesus, for he shall save his people from their sins. ²² Now all this was done that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the Lord through the prophet, saying, ²³ Behold, a virgin shall conceive and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is God With Us. ²⁴ Then Joseph, being aroused from sleep, did as the angel of the Lord had bidden him and took unto him his wife ²⁵ and knew her not until she had brought forth her firstborn son, and he called his name Jesus.

⁷ And she brought forth her firstborn son and wrapped him in swaddling clothes and laid him in a manger because there was no room for them in the inn.

⁴ but when the fullness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, born of a woman, born under the law, ⁵ to redeem those that were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of sons.

⁵ ¶ Now the end of the commandment is charity out of a pure heart and of a good conscience and of faith unfeigned:

¹⁴ And the grace of our Lord was exceedingly abundant with faith and love which is in Christ Jesus.

⁹ ¶ In like manner also that the women adorn themselves in an honest manner, with shyness and modesty, not with ostentatious hair or gold or pearls or costly clothing

¹² teaching us that denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live temperately, righteously, and godly in this present world;

⁷ ¶ But the end of all things is at hand; be ye, therefore, temperate and watch unto prayer.
