¹¹ For it has been declared unto me of you, my brethren, by those of the house of Chloe, that there are contentions among you.

³ For ye are yet carnal: for whereas there is among you envying and strife and divisions, are ye not carnal and walk as men? ⁴ For while one says, I am of Paul, and another, I am of Apollos, are ye not carnal?

⁶ And these things, brethren, I have in a figure transferred to myself and to Apollos for your sakes, that in us ye might not learn above that which is written, lest because of one, some of you become puffed up against others. ⁷ ¶ For who makes thee to judge? and what hast thou that thou didst not receive? now if thou didst receive it, what dost thou glory of, as if thou hadst not received it? ⁸ Now ye are full, now ye are rich, ye reign as kings without us, and I wish ye did reign, that we also might reign with you.

¹⁸ Now some are puffed up as though I will never come to you. ¹⁹ But I will come to you shortly, if the Lord wills, and will know not the words of those who are puffed up, but the virtue. ²⁰ For the kingdom of God is not in words, but in virtue. ²¹ What will ye? Shall I come unto you with a rod or in charity and in the spirit of meekness?

³ For I verily, as absent in body, but present in spirit, have judged already, as though I were present, him that has so done this deed. ⁴ In the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, when ye are gathered together, and my spirit, with the power of our Lord Jesus Christ, ⁵ let such a one be delivered unto Satan for the destruction of the flesh, that the spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord Jesus.

⁷ Now therefore there is certainly a fault among you, because ye go to law one with another. Why do ye not rather suffer the wrong? why do ye not rather be defrauded? ⁸ But ye do wrong and defraud and do this to your brothers.

¹⁶ With all this, if anyone seems to be contentious, we have no such custom, neither the congregation {Gr. ekklesia – called out ones} of God. ¹⁷ ¶ Now in this that I declare unto you I praise you not: that ye come together not for the better, but for the worse. ¹⁸ For first of all, when ye come together in the congregation {Gr. ekklesia – called out ones}, I hear that there are divisions among you; and I partly believe it. ¹⁹ For it is expedient that there also be heresies among you, so that those who are proved may become manifest among you.

³³ For God is not the God of disorder, but of peace, as in all the congregations {Gr. ekklesia – called out ones} of the saints.

³⁶ ¶ What? Did the word of God come out from you? or did it come unto you only? ³⁷ If anyone thinks himself to be a prophet or spiritual, let him acknowledge that the things that I write unto you are the commandments of the Lord.

²³ Moreover I call God for a witness upon my soul that I have not yet come unto Corinth to spare you.

² but I beseech you that I need not be bold when I am present with that confidence, with which I am esteemed to use against some who regard us as if we walked according to the flesh.

⁶ and having a readiness to avenge all disobedience, when your obedience is fulfilled.

⁸ For though I should glory somewhat more of our authority, which the Lord has given us for edification, and not for your destruction, I shall not be ashamed, ⁹ That I may not seem as if I would terrify you by letters.

²¹ lest, when I come again, my God will humble me among you, and I would have to mourn over many who have sinned already and have not repented of the uncleanness and fornication and lasciviousness which they have committed.

² I told you before and foretell you, as if I were present, the second time; and being absent now, I write to those who until now have sinned and to all others that, if I come again, I will not spare,

⁹ By which we are glad that we are weak and ye are strong, and even so we pray for your perfection. ¹⁰ Therefore I write these things being absent lest being present I should treat you with more severity, according to the power which the Lord has given me for edification, and not for destruction.

¹⁵ But if ye bite and devour one another, take heed that ye are not consumed one of another.

¹⁹ Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these: Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, ²⁰ idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, ²¹ envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like; which I denounce, as I have also told you in time past that those who do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.

²⁶ Let us not be desirous of vain glory, provoking one another, envying one another.

³¹ Let all bitterness and wrath and anger and clamour and evil speaking be taken away from you, with all malice, ³² and be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another even as God has forgiven you in Christ.

¹⁴ But if ye have bitter envying and strife in your hearts, boast not and do not be liars against the truth. ¹⁵ This wisdom is not that which descends from above, but is earthly, natural, diabolical. ¹⁶ For where there is envy and contention, there is confusion and every perverse work.

¹ ¶ Where do the wars and disputes come from among you? From here that is to say, of your lusts which fight in your members? ² Ye covet and have not; ye murder, and have envy and cannot obtain; ye fight and war and have not that which ye desire because ye ask not. ³ Ye ask and receive not because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your pleasures. ⁴ Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? Whosoever therefore that desires to be a friend of the world, makes himself the enemy of God. ⁵ Do ye think that the scripture says in vain, The spirit that dwells in us lusts to envy?

¹ ¶ Having therefore left all malice and all guile and hypocrisies and envies and all murmurings,

¹⁸ For speaking arrogant words of vanity, they allure through the lusts of the flesh, through much wantonness, those that were clean escaped from those who converse in error,

¹⁶ These are murmurers, complainers, walking after their own desires; and their mouth speaks arrogant things, admiring persons to take advantage.
