¹ ¶ Now these are the generations of the sons of Noah: Shem, Ham, and Japheth; and unto them were born sons after the flood. ² The sons of Japheth: Gomer and Magog and Madai and Javan and Tubal and Meshech and Tiras. ³ And the sons of Gomer: Ashkenaz and Riphath and Togarmah. ⁴ And the sons of Javan: Elishah and Tarshish, Kittim and Dodanim. ⁵ By these were the isles of the Gentiles divided in their lands, each one after his tongue, after their families, in their nations. ⁶ ¶ And the sons of Ham: Cush and Mizraim and Phut and Canaan. ⁷ And the sons of Cush: Seba and Havilah and Sabtah and Raamah and Sabtecha. And the sons of Raamah: Sheba and Dedan. ⁸ And Cush begat Nimrod. He began to be powerful in the earth. ⁹ He was a powerful hunter before the LORD; therefore it is said, Even as Nimrod, the powerful hunter before the LORD. ¹⁰ And the beginning of his kingdom was Babel and Erech and Accad and Calneh in the land of Shinar. ¹¹ Out of that land went forth Asshur, who built Nineveh and the city Rehoboth and Calah ¹² and Resen between Nineveh and Calah; the same is a great city. ¹³ And Mizraim begat Ludim and Anamim and Lehabim and Naphtuhim ¹⁴ and Pathrusim and Casluhim (out of whom came the Philistines) and Caphtorim. ¹⁵ ¶ And Canaan begat Sidon, his firstborn, and Heth ¹⁶ and Jebusite and Amorite and Girgasite ¹⁷ and Hivite and Arkite and Sinite ¹⁸ and Arvadite and Zemarite and Hamathite; and afterward were the families of the Canaanites spread abroad. ¹⁹ And the border of the Canaanites was from Sidon, as thou comest to Gerar unto Gaza, as thou goest, unto Sodom and Gomorrah and Admah and Zeboim, even unto Lasha. ²⁰ These are the sons of Ham, after their families, after their tongues, in their countries, and in their nations. ²¹ ¶ Unto Shem also, the father of all the sons of Eber, the elder brother of Japheth, even to him were sons born. ²² The sons of Shem: Elam, Asshur, Arphaxad, Lud, and Aram. ²³ And the sons of Aram: Uz, Hul, Gether, and Mash. ²⁴ And Arphaxad begat Salah, and Salah begat Eber. ²⁵ And unto Eber were born two sons; the name of one was Peleg, for in his days the earth was divided; and his brother’s name was Joktan. ²⁶ And Joktan begat Almodad, Sheleph, Hazarmaveth, Jerah, ²⁷ Hadoram, Uzal, Diklah, ²⁸ Obal, Abimael, Sheba, ²⁹ Ophir, Havilah, and Jobab; all these were the sons of Joktan. ³⁰ And their dwelling was from Mesha as thou goest unto Sephar, mount of the east. ³¹ These are the sons of Shem, after their families, after their tongues, in their lands, after their nations. ³² These are the families of the sons of Noah, after their descendants, in their nations; and by these were the Gentiles divided in the earth after the flood.

⁴ ¶ These are the origins of the heavens and of the earth when they were created, in the day that the LORD God made the earth and the heavens

¹ ¶ This is the book of the descendants of Adam. In the day that God created man, he made him in the likeness of God;

⁹ These are the generations of Noah. Noah was a just man and perfect in his generations, and Noah walked with God.

¹ ¶ And God blessed Noah and his sons and said unto them, Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth.

⁷ And you, be ye fruitful and multiply; bring forth abundantly in the earth and multiply therein.

¹⁹ These are the three sons of Noah; and of them was the whole earth overspread.

¹ ¶ The book of the generation of Jesus Christ, son of David, son of Abraham.

²¹ ¶ Unto Shem also, the father of all the sons of Eber, the elder brother of Japheth, even to him were sons born.

⁵ The sons of Japheth: Gomer, Magog, Madai, Javan, Tubal, Meshech, and Tiras. ⁶ And the sons of Gomer: Ashchenaz, Riphath, and Togarmah. ⁷ And the sons of Javan: Elishah, Tarshish, Kittim, and Dodanim.

¹⁹ And I will set a sign among them, and I will send those that escape of them unto the Gentiles, to Tarshish, Pul, and Lud, that draw the bow, to Tubal, and Javan, to the isles afar off, that have never heard my name, nor seen my glory; and they shall declare my glory among the Gentiles.

⁷ Of fine linen with broidered work from Egypt was thy curtain, that it might serve to be thy sail; {Heb. banner}; of blue and purple from the isles of Elishah was thy pavilion.

¹² Tarshish was thy market by reason of the multitude of all thy riches in silver, iron, tin, and lead; they traded in thy fairs. ¹³ Greece, Tubal, and Meshech, thy merchants, with the soul of men and with vessels of brass; they traded in thy fairs. ¹⁴ Those of the house of Togarmah traded in thy fairs with horses and horsemen and mules.

¹⁹ Dan also and Greece and Mozel traded in thy fairs bright iron, cassia, and calamus.

² Son of man, set thy face against Gog in the land of Magog, prince of the capital of Meshech and Tubal, and prophesy over him,

⁶ Gomer and all his companies; the house of Togarmah that dwells to the sides of the north and all his companies and many peoples with thee.

¹⁵ And thou shalt come from thy place out of the north parts, thou, and many peoples with thee, all of them riding upon horses, a great company, and a mighty army:

¹ ¶ Therefore, thou son of man, prophesy against Gog, and say, Thus hath the Lord GOD said: Behold, I am against thee, O Gog, prince of the capital of Meshech and Tubal;

⁸ and shall go out to deceive the Gentiles which are upon the four corners of the earth, Gog and Magog, to gather them together to battle; the number of whom is as the sand of the sea.

²⁷ Set ye up a banner in the land, blow the shofar among the Gentiles, prepare the nations against her, call together against her the kingdoms of Ararat, Minni, and Ashchenaz; appoint a captain against her; cause the horses to come up as raised up locusts.

¹⁴ Those of the house of Togarmah traded in thy fairs with horses and horsemen and mules.

²⁴ And ships shall come from the coast of Chittim and shall afflict Asshur and shall afflict Eber, but he also shall perish for ever.

¹ ¶ The burden of Tyre. Howl, ye ships of Tarshish, for it is laid waste, so that there is no house, no entering in; from the land of Chittim it is revealed to them.

¹² And he said, Thou shalt no more rejoice, O thou oppressed virgin, daughter of Zidon; arise, pass over to Chittim, and even there thou shalt have no rest.

¹² Tarshish was thy market by reason of the multitude of all thy riches in silver, iron, tin, and lead; they traded in thy fairs.

²⁵ The ships of Tarshish, thy squadrons, went forth on thy behalf: and thou wast full, and wast multiplied greatly in the midst of the seas.

³⁰ For the ships of Chittim shall come against him; therefore he shall be grieved and return and have indignation against the holy covenant: so shall he do; he shall even return and have an understanding with those that have forsaken the holy covenant.

²⁰ These are the sons of Ham, after their families, after their tongues, in their countries, and in their nations.

²⁵ And unto Eber were born two sons; the name of one was Peleg, for in his days the earth was divided; and his brother’s name was Joktan.

¹ ¶ And the whole earth was of one language and of one speech. ² And it came to pass as they journeyed from the east that they found a plain in the land of Shinar; and they dwelt there. ³ And they said one to another, Go to, let us make brick and burn them thoroughly. And they had brick instead of stone and slime instead of mortar. ⁴ And they said, Go to, let us build us a city and a tower whose top may reach unto heaven; and let us make us a name, lest we be scattered abroad upon the face of the whole earth. ⁵ ¶ And the LORD came down to see the city and the tower, which the sons of the man built. ⁶ And the LORD said, Behold, the people are one, and they all have one language; and they begin to do this, and now nothing will be restrained from them which they have imagined to do. ⁷ Now, let us go down and there confound their language that they may not understand one another’s speech. ⁸ So the LORD scattered them abroad from there upon the face of all the earth, and they left off to build the city. ⁹ Therefore the name of it was called Babel because there the LORD confounded the language of all the earth, and from there the LORD scattered them abroad upon the face of all the earth.

¹⁰ The kings of Tarshish and of the isles shall bring presents; the kings of Sheba and Seba shall offer gifts.

¹⁵ Therefore glorify ye the LORD in the valleys; let the LORD God of Israel be called upon by name in the isles of the sea.

¹⁵ Behold, the nations are as a drop of a bucket and are counted as the small dust of the balance: behold, he causes the isles to disappear as dust.

⁵ The isles saw it and feared; the ends of the earth were afraid; they congregated and came.

⁴ He shall not tire nor faint until he has set judgment in the earth; and the isles shall wait for his law.

¹⁰ Sing unto the LORD a new song and his praise from the end of the earth, ye that go down to the sea and all that is therein, the isles, and the inhabitants thereof.

¹ ¶ Listen, O isles, unto me, and hearken, ye peoples, from far, The LORD has called me from the womb; from the bowels of my mother he has remembered my name.

⁵ My righteousness is near; my saving health is gone forth, and my arms shall judge the people; the isles shall wait upon me; and on my arm shall they place their hope.

¹⁸ so as to give payment, so as to repay the vengeance of his enemies, and repay his adversaries; to the islands he will give recompense.

⁹ ¶ For the isles shall wait for me, and the ships of Tarshish from the first, to bring thy sons from far, their silver and their gold with them, unto the name of the LORD thy God, and to the Holy One of Israel, who has glorified thee.

¹⁰ For pass over the isles of Chittim and see; and send unto Kedar and consider diligently and see if there be such a thing.

²² and to all the kings of Tyre and to all the kings of Zidon and to all the kings of the isles which are of that side of the sea,

¹¹ The LORD shall be terrible against them for he will weaken all the gods of the earth; and each one from his place shall worship him, even all the isles of the Gentiles.

²² And Ham, the father of Canaan, saw the nakedness of his father and told his two brethren outside.

⁸ The sons of Ham: Cush, Mizraim, Put, and Canaan. ⁹ And the sons of Cush: Seba, Havilah, Sabta, Raamah, and Sabtecha. And the sons of Raamah: Sheba and Dedan. ¹⁰ And Cush begat Nimrod; he began to be mighty upon the earth. ¹¹ And Mizraim begat Ludim, Anamim, Lehabim, Naphtuhim, ¹² Pathrusim and Casluhim of whom came the Philistines and the Caphthorim. ¹³ And Canaan begat Zidon his firstborn and the Hitite, ¹⁴ the Jebusite, the Amorite, the Girgashite, ¹⁵ the Hivite, the Arkite, the Sinite, ¹⁶ the Arvadite, the Zemarite, and the Hamathite.

⁴⁰ And they found fat pasture and good, and the land was wide and spacious and quiet and peaceable, for the sons of Ham had dwelt there of old.

⁵¹ and smote all the firstborn in Egypt, the firstfruits of their strength in the tents of Ham:

²³ Afterwards Israel entered into Egypt, and Jacob was a stranger in the land of Ham.

²⁷ He put the words of his signs in them and his wonders in the land of Ham.

²² wondrous works in the land of Ham, and terrible things upon the Red sea.

¹¹ And it shall come to pass in that day that the Lord shall return to set his hand again to possess the remnant of his people which were left from Assyria and from Egypt and from Pathros and from Cush and from Elam and from Shinar and from Hamath and from the islands of the sea.

⁹ Come up, ye horses; and rage, ye chariots; and let the mighty men come forth; the Ethiopians and the Libyans, that handle the shield; and the Lydians, that handle and bend the bow.

¹⁰ Those of Persia and of Lud and of Africa were in thine army, thy men of war: they hung the shield and helmet in thee; they extolled thy beauty.

¹¹ The name of the first is Pison; that is it which compasses the whole land of Havilah, where there is gold;

¹ ¶ And when the queen of Sheba heard of the fame of Solomon concerning the name of the LORD, she came to prove him with enigmas.

¹³ ¶ The burden upon Arabia. In the forest ye shall pass the night in Arabia, O ye walkers of Dedanim.

¹⁵ The sons of Dedan were thy merchants; many isles took merchandise from thy hand: they brought thee for a present horns of ivory and peacocks.

²² The merchants of Sheba and Raamah; they were thy merchants: they traded in thy fairs with the chief of all spices and with all precious stones and gold.

⁶ And they shall waste the land of Assyria with the blade, and the land of Nimrod with their swords; and he shall deliver us from the Assyrian when he comes against our land and when he treads within our borders.

⁴ ¶ There were giants in the earth in those days, and also after that, when the sons of God came in unto the daughters of men, and they bore sons to them, the same became mighty men who were of old, men of renown.

¹¹ ¶ The earth corrupted itself before God, and the earth filled itself with violence.

¹³ But the men of Sodom were wicked and sinners before the LORD exceedingly.

²⁷ And the boys grew, and Esau was a cunning hunter, a man of the field; and Jacob was an upright man, remaining in the tents.

³⁰ ¶ And it came to pass as soon as Isaac had made an end of blessing Jacob, and Jacob was yet scarce gone out from the presence of Isaac his father that Esau his brother came in from his hunting.

²² Furthermore, king Ahaz in the time of his distress trespassed even more against the LORD,

⁷ Behold, this is the man that did not make God his strength, but trusted in the abundance of his riches and strengthened himself in his wickedness.

¹⁶ Behold, I send many fishers, saith the LORD, and they shall fish them; and after, will I send many hunters, and they shall hunt them from every mountain and from every hill, and out of the holes of the rocks.

¹⁸ And say, Thus hath the Lord GOD said; Woe to the women that sew pillows to all armholes and make kerchiefs upon the head of every stature to hunt souls! Must ye hunt the souls of my people to maintain thus your own life?

² The merciful man of the earth is missing: and there is no one upright among men: they all lie in wait for blood; they hunt each man his brother with a net.

² And it came to pass as they journeyed from the east that they found a plain in the land of Shinar; and they dwelt there.

⁹ Therefore the name of it was called Babel because there the LORD confounded the language of all the earth, and from there the LORD scattered them abroad upon the face of all the earth.

¹ ¶ And it came to pass in those days that Amraphel king of Shinar, Arioch king of Ellasar, Chedorlaomer king of Elam, and Tidal king of the Gentiles

⁹ Is not Calno as Carchemish? Is not Hamath as Arpad? Is not Samaria as Damascus?

¹ ¶ At that time Merodachbaladan, the son of Baladan, king of Babylon, sent letters and presents to Hezekiah, for he had heard that he had been sick and was recovered.

²¹ ¶ Go up against the land of Merathaim, even against it and against the inhabitants of Pekod; waste and utterly destroy after them, said the LORD, and do according to all that I have commanded thee.

² And the Lord gave Jehoiakim king of Judah into his hand with part of the vessels of the house of God which he carried into the land of Shinar to the house of his god, and he brought the vessels into the treasure house of his god.

² Pass unto Calneh and see, and from there go to Hamath the great; then go down to Gath of the Palestinians. Are they better than these kingdoms? or their border greater than your border?

¹⁰ Be in pain, and labour to bring forth, O daughter of Zion, like a woman in travail; for now thou shalt go forth out of the city, and thou shalt dwell in the field, and thou shalt go even to Babylon; there shalt thou be delivered; there the LORD shall redeem thee from the hand of thine enemies.

¹¹ And he said unto me, To build it a house in the land of Shinar: and it shall be established, and set there upon her own base.

²² because the Kenite shall be thrown out, when Asshur shall carry thee away captive.

³⁶ So Sennacherib, king of Assyria, departed and went and returned and dwelt at Nineveh.

² then they came to Zerubbabel and to the heads of the fathers and said unto them, Let us build with you, for we seek your God, as ye do; and we do sacrifice unto him since the days of Esarhaddon, king of Assur, who brought us up here.

⁸ Assur also is joined with them: they are an arm unto the sons of Lot. Selah.

³⁷ So Sennacherib king of Assyria departed and went and returned and dwelt at Nineveh.

²³ Haran and Canneh and Eden, the merchants of Sheba, Asshur, and Chilmad were in thy market.

²² Asshur is there and all his company; his graves are about him; all of them slain, fallen by the sword:

³ Asshur shall not save us; we will not ride upon horses, neither will we say any more to the work of our hands, Ye are our gods, for in thee the fatherless finds mercy.

² Arise, go to Nineveh, that great city, and cry against it; for their wickedness is come up before me.

¹ ¶ And the word of the LORD came unto Jonah the second time, saying, ² Arise, go unto Nineveh, that great city, and preach unto it the preaching that I bid thee. ³ So Jonah arose and went unto Nineveh, according to the word of the LORD. Now Nineveh was an exceeding great city of three days’ journey. ⁴ And Jonah began to enter into the city a day’s journey, and he cried and said, Yet forty days, and Nineveh shall be destroyed. ⁵ ¶ So the people of Nineveh believed God and proclaimed a fast and put on sackcloth, from the greatest of them even to the least of them. ⁶ For word came unto the king of Nineveh, and he arose from his throne, and he threw his robe from him and covered himself with sackcloth and sat in ashes. ⁷ And he caused it to be proclaimed and published through Nineveh by the decree of the king and his nobles, saying, Let neither man nor beast, herd nor flock, taste any thing; let them not feed, nor drink water: ⁸ but let man and beast be covered with sackcloth and cry mightily unto God; and let each one turn from his evil way and from the violence that is in his hands. ⁹ Who can tell if God will turn and repent and turn away from his fierce anger, that we not perish? ¹⁰ And God saw their works, because they turned from their evil way, and he repented of the evil that he had said that he would do unto them, and he did not do it.

¹ ¶ The burden of Nineveh. The book of the vision of Nahum the Elkoshite.

⁸ And Nineveh was of old like a pool of water; but now they flee away. Stand, stand, shall they cry; but no one looks back.

⁷ And it shall come to pass, that all those that look upon thee shall flee from thee and say, Nineveh is laid waste; who will bemoan her? from where shall I seek comforters for thee?

¹³ And he will stretch out his hand over the north wind and destroy Assyria and will make Nineveh a desolation and dry like a wilderness.

¹¹ And Mizraim begat Ludim, Anamim, Lehabim, Naphtuhim, ¹² Pathrusim and Casluhim of whom came the Philistines and the Caphthorim.

⁵ Ethiopia, and Libya, and Lydia, and all the mingled people, and Chub, and the men of the land that is in league, shall fall with them by the sword.

²³ And the Avims who dwelt in Hazerim, even unto Gaza, the Caphtorims, who came forth out of Caphtor, destroyed them and dwelt in their stead.)

¹² Pathrusim and Casluhim of whom came the Philistines and the Caphthorim.

¹ ¶ The word that came to Jeremiah concerning all the Jews which dwelt in the land of Egypt, which dwelt at Migdol and at Tahpanhes and at Noph and in the country of Pathros, saying,

⁴ because of the day that comes to destroy all the Palestinians, and to cut off from Tyre and Zidon every helper that remains: for the LORD will destroy the Palestinians, the remnant of the island of Caphtor.

⁷ O sons of Israel, Are ye not as sons of the Ethiopians unto me, said the LORD? Have not I brought up Israel out of the land of Egypt? and the Palestinians from Caphtor, and the Syrians from Kir?

¹⁸ In the same day the LORD made a covenant with Abram, saying, Unto thy seed shall I give this land, from the river of Egypt unto the great river, the river Euphrates: ¹⁹ the Kenite and the Kenizzite and the Kadmonite ²⁰ and the Hittite and the Perizzite and the Rephaim ²¹ and the Amorite and the Canaanite and the Girgashite and the Jebusite.

³ ¶ And Abraham stood up from before his dead and spoke unto the sons of Heth, saying,

³ And may God Almighty bless thee and make thee fruitful and multiply thee that thou may be a congregation of peoples ⁴ and give thee the blessing of Abraham, to thee and to thy seed with thee; that thou may inherit the land in which thou art a stranger, which God gave unto Abraham. ⁵ Thus Isaac sent Jacob away, and he went to Padanaram unto Laban, son of Bethuel the Aramean, the brother of Rebekah, Jacob’s and Esau’s mother. ⁶ ¶ And Esau saw how Isaac had blessed Jacob and sent him away to Padanaram, to take a wife from there for himself, and that as he blessed him, he gave him a charge, saying, Thou shalt not take a wife of the daughters of Canaan, ⁷ and that Jacob had hearkened unto his father and his mother and had gone to Padanaram; ⁸ and Esau, seeing that the daughters of Canaan did not please Isaac his father, ⁹ Esau went unto Ishmael and took unto the wives which he had, Mahalath, the daughter of Ishmael, Abraham’s son, the sister of Nebajoth, to be his wife. ¹⁰ ¶ And Jacob went out from Beersheba and went toward Haran. ¹¹ And he found a certain place and slept there all night because the sun was set; and he took of the stones of that place and put them for his pillows and lay down in that place to sleep. ¹² And he dreamed, and behold a ladder set up on the earth, and the top of it reached to heaven; and behold the angels of God ascending and descending on it. ¹³ And, behold, the LORD stood above it and said, I AM the God of Abraham, thy father, and the God of Isaac; the land upon which thou dost lie, to thee will I give it and to thy seed; ¹⁴ and thy seed shall be as the dust of the earth, and thou shalt multiply to the west and to the east and to the Aquilon and to the Negev; and in thee and in thy seed shall all the families of the earth be blessed. ¹⁵ And, behold, I am with thee and will keep thee in all places where thou goest and will bring thee again into this land; for I will not leave thee until I have done that which I have spoken to thee of. ¹⁶ ¶ And Jacob awakened out of his sleep, and he said, Surely the LORD is in this place, and I knew it not. ¹⁷ And he was afraid and said, How dreadful is this place! this is none other but the house of God, and this is the gate of heaven. ¹⁸ And Jacob rose up early in the morning and took the stone that he had put for his pillows and set it up for a pillar and poured oil upon the top of it. ¹⁹ And he called the name of that place Bethel, since the name of that city was called Luz at first. ²⁰ And Jacob vowed a vow, saying, If God will be with me and will keep me in this way that I go and will give me bread to eat and clothing to put on

¹³ ¶ Zebulun shall dwell at the port of the sea; and he shall be for a port of ships; and his border shall be unto Zidon.

⁸ and I am come down to deliver them out of the hand of the Egyptians and to bring them up out of that land unto a good and broad land, unto a land flowing with milk and honey, unto the places of the Canaanite and the Hittite and the Amorite and the Perizzite and the Hivite and the Jebusite.

¹¹ Keep that which I command thee this day; behold, I drive out before thee the Amorite, the Canaanite, the Hittite, the Perizzite, the Hivite, and the Jebusite.

² Command the sons of Israel and say unto them, When ye have entered into the land of Canaan (this is the land that shall fall unto you for an inheritance, even the land of Canaan according to its borders), ³ you shall have on the side of the Negev from the wilderness of Zin unto the borders of Edom, and your border towards the Negev shall be the outmost coast of the salt sea eastward. ⁴ And this border shall turn from the Negev to the ascent of Akrabbim and pass on to Zin, and the going forth thereof shall be from the Negev to Kadeshbarnea and shall go on to Hazaraddar and pass on to Azmon; ⁵ and the border shall fetch a compass from Azmon unto the river of Egypt, and the goings out of it shall be at the western sea. ⁶ And as for the western border, ye shall even have the great sea for a border; this shall be your west border. ⁷ And this shall be your north border: from the great sea ye shall point out for you Mount Hor. ⁸ From Mount Hor ye shall point out your border unto the entrance of Hamath, and the goings forth of the border shall be to Zedad, ⁹ and the border shall go on to Ziphron, and the goings out of it shall be at Hazarenan; this shall be your north border. ¹⁰ And ye shall point out your east border from Hazarenan to Shepham, ¹¹ and the border shall go down from Shepham to Riblah, on the east side of Ain, and the border shall descend and shall reach unto the side of the sea of Chinnereth eastward. ¹² And the border shall go down to the Jordan, and the goings out of it shall be at the salt sea; this shall be your land with the borders thereof round about. ¹³ And Moses commanded the sons of Israel, saying, This is the land which ye shall inherit by lot, which the LORD commanded to give unto the nine tribes and to the half tribe, ¹⁴ because the tribe of the sons of Reuben, according to the houses of their fathers, and the tribe of the sons of Gad, according to the houses of their fathers, and half the tribe of Manasseh have received their inheritance. ¹⁵ The two tribes and the half tribe have received their inheritance on this side of the Jordan of Jericho eastward, toward the sunrising.

⁸ And the LORD delivered them into the hand of Israel, who smote them and chased them unto great Zidon and unto the hot springs and unto the valley of Mizpeh eastward; and they smote them, until they left them no one remaining.

⁸ in the mountains and in the valleys and in the plains and in the springs and in the wilderness and towards the Negev: the Hittite, the Amorite, and the Canaanite, the Perizzite, the Hivite, and the Jebusite, ⁹ the king of Jericho, one; the king of Ai, which is beside Bethel, another; ¹⁰ the king of Jerusalem, another; the king of Hebron, another; ¹¹ the king of Jarmuth, another; the king of Lachish, another; ¹² the king of Eglon, another; the king of Gezer, another; ¹³ the king of Debir, another; the king of Geder, another; ¹⁴ the king of Hormah, another; the king of Arad, another; ¹⁵ the king of Libnah, another; the king of Adullam, another; ¹⁶ the king of Makkedah, another; the king of Bethel, another; ¹⁷ the king of Tappuah, another; the king of Hepher, another; ¹⁸ the king of Aphek, another; the king of Lasharon, another; ¹⁹ the king of Madon, another; the king of Hazor, another; ²⁰ the king of Shimronmeron (Samaria), another; the king of Achshaph, another; ²¹ the king of Taanach, another; the king of Megiddo, another; ²² the king of Kedesh, another; the king of Jokneam of Carmel, another; ²³ the king of Dor in the province of Dor, another; the king of the Gentiles in Gilgal, another; ²⁴ the king of Tirzah, another; thirty-one kings in all.

³ And David sent and enquired after the woman. And one said, Is not this Bathsheba, the daughter of Eliam, the wife of Uriah, the Hittite?

¹³ And Canaan begat Zidon his firstborn and the Hitite,

⁴ Be thou ashamed, O Zidon, for the sea has spoken, even the strength of the sea, saying, I have never travailed nor brought forth children, neither did I nourish up young men nor bring up virgins.

²¹ ¶ And the sons of Benjamin did not drive out the Jebusites that inhabited Jerusalem; thus the Jebusites dwell with the sons of Benjamin in Jerusalem unto this day.

¹⁸ ¶ And Gad came that day to David and said unto him, Go up, erect an altar unto the LORD in the threshingfloor of Araunah, the Jebusite.

⁷ And I will take away his blood out of his mouth, and his abominations from between his teeth, but some of them shall remain for our God, and they shall be as captains in Judah, and Ekron as the Jebusite.

⁹ ¶ When Toi, king of Hamath, heard that David had smitten all the host of Hadadezer,

²⁴ ¶ And the king of Assyria brought Gentiles from Babylon and from Cuthah and from Ava and from Hamath and from Sepharvaim, and placed them in the cities of Samaria instead of the sons of Israel; and they possessed Samaria and dwelt in the cities thereof.

³⁰ And the men of Babylon made Succothbenoth, and the men of Cuth made Nergal, and the men of Hamath made Ashima,

⁴ And Abijah stood up upon Mount Zemaraim, which is in the mountains of Ephraim, and said, Hear me, Jeroboam and all Israel;

⁸ The inhabitants of Zidon and Arvad were thy rowers; thy wise men, O Tyre, were in thee; they were thy pilots.

¹⁶ Hamath, Berothah, Sibraim, which is between the border of Damascus and the border of Hamath; Hazarhatticon, which is by the coast of Hauran. ¹⁷ And the border of the north shall be from the sea of Hazarenan to the border of Damascus to the north, and to the border of Hamath to the side of the north.

² And Hamath also shall come to an end in her; Tyre, and Zidon, though it be very wise.

¹⁰ ¶ And Lot lifted up his eyes and beheld all the plain of the Jordan that it was well watered everywhere, before the LORD destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah, even as a garden of the LORD like the land of Egypt as thou comest unto Zoar. ¹¹ Then Lot chose for himself all the plain of the Jordan, and Lot journeyed east; and they separated themselves the one from the other. ¹² Abram dwelt in the land of Canaan, and Lot dwelt in the cities of the plain and pitched his tents toward Sodom. ¹³ But the men of Sodom were wicked and sinners before the LORD exceedingly. ¹⁴ ¶ And the LORD said unto Abram, after Lot separated himself from him, Lift up now thine eyes and look from the place where thou art towards the Aquilon {the land of the north wind} and to the Negev {the south desert} and to the east and to the west; ¹⁵ for all the land which thou seest, to thee will I give it and to thy seed for ever. ¹⁶ And I will make thy seed as the dust of the earth, so that if someone could number the dust of the earth, then shall thy seed also be numbered. ¹⁷ Arise, walk through the land in the length of it and in the breadth of it, for I must give it unto thee.

²⁰ And the LORD said, Because the cry of Sodom and Gomorrah is great and because their sin is very grievous;

²⁴ ¶ Then the LORD rained upon Sodom and upon Gomorrah brimstone and fire from the LORD out of the heavens; ²⁵ and he overthrew those cities and all that plain, with all the inhabitants of those cities, and the fruit of the ground.

¹ ¶ And Abraham journeyed from there toward the land of the Negev and dwelt between Kadesh and Shur and sojourned in Gerar.

¹ ¶ And there was a famine in the land, in addition to the first famine that was in the days of Abraham. And Isaac went unto Abimelech, king of the Philistines, unto Gerar.

⁸ when the most High caused the Gentiles to be inherited, when he separated the sons of men, he set the bounds of the peoples according to the number of the sons of Israel.

⁷ ¶ And these are the kings of the land which Joshua and the sons of Israel smote on this side of the Jordan on the west from Baalgad in the plains of Lebanon even unto Mount Halak that goes up to Seir, which Joshua gave unto the tribes of Israel for a possession according to their divisions, ⁸ in the mountains and in the valleys and in the plains and in the springs and in the wilderness and towards the Negev: the Hittite, the Amorite, and the Canaanite, the Perizzite, the Hivite, and the Jebusite,

¹ ¶ This is the inheritance of the sons of Israel in the land of Canaan, which Eleazar the priest and Joshua, the son of Nun, and the heads of the fathers of the tribes of the sons of Israel, distributed unto them. ² Their inheritance was by lot, as the LORD had commanded by the hand of Moses, to be given to the nine tribes and to the half tribe. ³ For Moses had given the inheritance of two tribes and half a tribe on the other side of the Jordan, but unto the Levites he gave no inheritance among them. ⁴ For the sons of Joseph were two tribes, Manasseh and Ephraim, and they gave no part unto the Levites in the land except cities to dwell in with their suburbs for their livestock and for their substance. ⁵ As the LORD had commanded Moses, so the sons of Israel did regarding the dividing of the land. ⁶ ¶ Then the sons of Judah came unto Joshua in Gilgal, and Caleb, the son of Jephunneh the Kenezite, said unto him, Thou knowest the thing that the LORD said unto Moses, the man of God, concerning me and thee in Kadeshbarnea. ⁷ I was forty years old when Moses, the slave of the LORD, sent me from Kadeshbarnea to spy out the land, and I brought him word again as it was in my heart, ⁸ but my brethren that went up with me made the heart of the people melt; but I entirely followed the LORD my God. ⁹ And Moses swore on that day, saying, Surely the land on which thy feet have trodden shall be thy inheritance and thy sons’ for ever because thou hast entirely followed the LORD my God. ¹⁰ And now, behold, the LORD has caused me to live, as he said, these forty-five years from the time that the LORD spoke these words unto Moses, while Israel has walked in the wilderness; and now, behold, I am this day eighty-five years old. ¹¹ As yet I am as strong today as I was in the day that Moses sent me; as my strength was then, even so is my strength now, for war and to go out and to come in. ¹² Now, therefore, give me this mountain, of which the LORD spoke in that day; for thou didst hear in that day how the Anakims were there and that the cities were great and strong; peradventure, the LORD will be with me, and I shall drive them out, as the LORD said. ¹³ Then Joshua blessed him and gave unto Caleb, the son of Jephunneh, Hebron as inheritance. ¹⁴ Hebron, therefore, became the inheritance of Caleb, the son of Jephunneh the Kenezite, unto this day because he entirely followed the LORD God of Israel. ¹⁵ And the name of Hebron before was Kirjatharba; Arba had been a great man among the Anakims. And the land had rest from war.

¹ ¶ Then Samson went to Gaza and saw a harlot there and went in unto her.

²⁰ and to all the mingled people and to all the kings of the land of Uz and to all the kings of the land of the Philistines and to Ashkelon and to Gaza and to Ekron and to the remnant of Ashdod,

⁸ ¶ How must I leave thee, Ephraim? how shall I give thee up, Israel? how could I make thee as Admah? nor set thee as Zeboim? my heart churns within me; all my compassion is inflamed.

⁶ ¶ And the sons of Ham: Cush and Mizraim and Phut and Canaan.

¹⁰ ¶ These are the generations of Shem: Shem was one hundred years old and begat Arphaxad two years after the flood: ¹¹ And Shem lived after he begat Arphaxad five hundred years and begat sons and daughters. ¹² And Arphaxad lived thirty-five years and begat Salah; ¹³ and Arphaxad lived after he begat Salah four hundred and three years and begat sons and daughters. ¹⁴ And Salah lived thirty years and begat Eber; ¹⁵ and Salah lived after he begat Eber four hundred and three years and begat sons and daughters. ¹⁶ And Eber lived thirty-four years and begat Peleg; ¹⁷ and Eber lived after he begat Peleg four hundred and thirty years and begat sons and daughters. ¹⁸ And Peleg lived thirty years and begat Reu; ¹⁹ and Peleg lived after he begat Reu two hundred and nine years and begat sons and daughters. ²⁰ And Reu lived thirty-two years and begat Serug; ²¹ and Reu lived after he begat Serug two hundred and seven years and begat sons and daughters. ²² And Serug lived thirty years and begat Nahor; ²³ and Serug lived after he begat Nahor two hundred years and begat sons and daughters. ²⁴ And Nahor lived twenty-nine years and begat Terah; ²⁵ and Nahor lived after he begat Terah one hundred and nineteen years and begat sons and daughters. ²⁶ And Terah lived seventy years and begat Abram, Nahor, and Haran.

²⁶ And he said, Blessed be the LORD God of Shem; and Canaan shall be his slave.

¹ ¶ And it came to pass in those days that Amraphel king of Shinar, Arioch king of Ellasar, Chedorlaomer king of Elam, and Tidal king of the Gentiles ² made war against Bera king of Sodom and against Birsha king of Gomorrah and against Shinab king of Admah and against Shemeber king of Zeboiim and against the king of Bela, which is Zoar. ³ All these were joined together in the vale of Siddim, which is the salt sea. ⁴ Twelve years they had served Chedorlaomer, and in the thirteenth year they rebelled. ⁵ And in the fourteenth year Chedorlaomer and the kings that were with him came and smote the Rephaims in Ashteroth Karnaim and the Zuzims in Ham and the Emims in Shaveh Kiriathaim ⁶ and the Horites in their Mount Seir unto the plain of Paran, which is by the wilderness. ⁷ And they returned and came to Enmishpat, which is Kadesh, and smote all the works of the Amalekites and also the Amorites that dwelt in Hazezontamar. ⁸ And the king of Sodom and the king of Gomorrah and the king of Admah and the king of Zeboiim and the king of Bela (the same is Zoar) went out, and they joined battle with them in the vale of Siddim, ⁹ that is, against Chedorlaomer the king of Elam and Tidal king of the Gentiles and Amraphel king of Shinar and Arioch king of Ellasar: four kings against five.

⁷ And he took up his parable and said, Balak, the king of Moab, has brought me from Aram, out of the mountains of the east, saying, Come, curse me Jacob and come, denounce Israel.

¹⁹ And Pul, the king of Assyria, came against the land; and Menahem gave Pul a thousand talents of silver that his hand might be with him to confirm the kingdom in his hand.

¹⁷ The sons of Shem: Elam, Asshur, Arphaxad, Lud, Aram, Uz, Hul, Gether, and Meshech. ¹⁸ And Arphaxad begat Shelah, and Shelah begat Eber. ¹⁹ And unto Eber were born two sons; the name of the one was Peleg because in his days the earth was divided, and his brother’s name was Joktan. ²⁰ And Joktan begat Almodad, Sheleph, Hazarmaveth, Jerah, ²¹ Hadoram, Uzal, Diklah, ²² Ebal, Abimael, Sheba, ²³ Ophir, Havilah, and Jobab. All these were the sons of Joktan. ²⁴ Shem, Arphaxad, Shelah, ²⁵ Eber, Peleg, Reu, ²⁶ Serug, Nahor, Terah, ²⁷ and Abram, who is Abraham.

¹⁷ While he was yet speaking, another came and said, The Chaldeans made three bands and fell upon the camels and have carried them away and have slain the servants with the edge of the sword; and I alone have escaped to tell thee.

² A grievous vision is shown unto me. For one who is treacherous, another who deals treacherously, and for one destroyer, another destroyer. Rise up, Elam; besiege Media; all the sighing thereof I have made to cease.

⁶ Also Elam bore the quiver in a chariot of men and of horsemen, and Kir uncovered the shield.

²⁵ and to all the kings of Zimri and to all the kings of Elam and to all the kings of the Medes,

³⁴ ¶ The word of the LORD that came to Jeremiah the prophet regarding Elam in the beginning of the reign of Zedekiah king of Judah, saying, ³⁵ Thus hath the LORD of the hosts said: Behold, I break the bow of Elam, the foundation of their might. ³⁶ And upon Elam I will bring the four winds from the four quarters of heaven and will scatter them toward all those winds; and there shall be no nation where the outcasts of Elam shall not come. ³⁷ For I will cause Elam to fear before their enemies and before those that seek their soul; and I will bring evil upon them, even my fierce anger, said the LORD; and I will send the sword after them until I have consumed them. ³⁸ And I will set my throne in Elam and will destroy from there the king and the princes, said the LORD. ³⁹ But it shall come to pass in the last of the days that I will turn again the captivity of Elam, said the LORD.

⁹ Parthians and Medes and Elamites and the dwellers in Mesopotamia and in Judaea and Cappadocia, in Pontus and Asia,

¹ ¶ There was a man in the land of Uz, whose name was Job; and that man was perfect and upright, and one that feared God and departed from evil.

³⁵ who was the son of Saruch, who was the son of Ragau, who was the son of Peleg, who was the son of Heber, who was the son of Sala,

³² These are the families of the sons of Noah, after their descendants, in their nations; and by these were the Gentiles divided in the earth after the flood.

¹⁶ And Eber lived thirty-four years and begat Peleg; ¹⁷ and Eber lived after he begat Peleg four hundred and thirty years and begat sons and daughters. ¹⁸ And Peleg lived thirty years and begat Reu; ¹⁹ and Peleg lived after he begat Reu two hundred and nine years and begat sons and daughters.

¹⁹ And unto Eber were born two sons; the name of the one was Peleg because in his days the earth was divided, and his brother’s name was Joktan.

³⁵ who was the son of Saruch, who was the son of Ragau, who was the son of Peleg, who was the son of Heber, who was the son of Sala, ³⁶ who was the son of Cainan, who was the son of Arphaxad, who was the son of Shem, who was the son of Noah, who was the son of Lamech,

²⁶ and has made of one blood all the lineage of men to dwell on all the face of the earth and has determined the seasons (which he has limited) and the bounds of their habitation;

²⁰ And Joktan begat Almodad, Sheleph, Hazarmaveth, Jerah, ²¹ Hadoram, Uzal, Diklah, ²² Ebal, Abimael, Sheba, ²³ Ophir, Havilah, and Jobab. All these were the sons of Joktan. ²⁴ Shem, Arphaxad, Shelah, ²⁵ Eber, Peleg, Reu, ²⁶ Serug, Nahor, Terah, ²⁷ and Abram, who is Abraham. ²⁸ ¶ The sons of Abraham: Isaac and Ishmael.

³ And Jokshan begat Sheba and Dedan. And the sons of Dedan were Asshurim, Letushim, and Leummim.

¹⁸ And they dwelt from Havilah unto Shur, that is before Egypt, as thou goest toward Assyria; and he fell in the presence of all his brethren.

⁷ And Saul smote Amalek from Havilah until thou comest to Shur that is over against Egypt.

²⁸ And they went to Ophir and brought gold from there, four hundred and twenty talents and brought it to king Solomon.

⁴⁸ Jehoshaphat had made ships in Tharshish to go to Ophir for gold, but they did not go, for the ships were broken at Eziongeber.

¹⁸ Ishmerai, Jezliah, and Jobab, sons of Elpaal.

¹⁰ And of the priests: Jedaiah, Jehoiarib, and Jachin;

¹³ and their brethren, heads of the houses of their fathers, one thousand seven hundred and sixty, mighty men of valour for the work of the ministry of the house of God.

²⁴ then thou shalt lay up gold as dust and the gold of Ophir as the stones of the brooks.

¹⁶ It cannot be valued with the gold of Ophir, with the precious onyx or the sapphire.

⁹ Kings’ daughters were among thy honourable women; the queen stands at thy right hand with a crown of gold from Ophir.

¹² I will make the noble man more precious than fine gold and man more than the gold of Ophir.

⁵ By these were the isles of the Gentiles divided in their lands, each one after his tongue, after their families, in their nations.

²⁹ and he called his name Noah, saying, This same shall comfort us concerning our work and toil of our hands because of the ground which the LORD has cursed. ³⁰ And Lamech lived after he begat Noah five hundred ninety-five years and begat sons and daughters; ³¹ and all the days of Lamech were seven hundred seventy-seven years, and he died.

¹ ¶ Now these are the generations of the sons of Noah: Shem, Ham, and Japheth; and unto them were born sons after the flood.

³¹ These are the sons of Shem, after their families, after their tongues, in their lands, after their nations.
