² ¶ And Abram said, Lord GOD, what wilt thou give me, seeing I go childless, and the steward of my house is this Eliezer of Damascus?

¹ ¶ But the LORD had said unto Abram, Depart out of thy country and from thy nature and from thy father’s house unto a land that I will show thee; ² and I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing. ³ And I will bless those that bless thee and curse those that curse thee, and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed.

² And Abraham said unto his eldest slave of his house, who ruled over all that he had, Put, I pray thee, thy hand under my thigh,

¹⁰ ¶ And the slave took ten camels of the camels of his master and departed with the best of what his master had in his hand; and he arose and went to Ara-naharaim, unto the city of Nahor.

²¹ And Isaac prayed unto the LORD for his wife because she was barren; and the LORD accepted him, and Rebekah his wife conceived.

¹ ¶ And when Rachel saw that she gave Jacob no children, Rachel envied her sister and said unto Jacob, Give me sons, or else I will die. ² And Jacob’s anger was kindled against Rachel; and he said, Am I in God’s stead, who has withheld from thee the fruit of the womb?

⁴ So Joseph found grace in his sight, and he served him; and he made him overseer over his house, and all that he had he put into his hand. ⁵ And it came to pass from the time that he had made him overseer in his house and over all that he had, that the LORD blessed the Egyptian’s house for Joseph’s sake; and the blessing of the LORD was upon all that he had in the house and in the field. ⁶ And he left all that he had in Joseph’s hand, and with him knew of nothing more than of the bread which he ate. And Joseph was handsome and well favoured.

⁹ there is none greater in this house than I; neither has he kept back anything from me but thee because thou art his wife; how then can I do this great wickedness and sin against God?

¹⁹ And they came near to the steward of Joseph’s house, and they spoke with him at the door of the house

¹ ¶ And he commanded the steward of his house, saying, Fill these men’s sacks with food, as much as they can carry, and put every man’s money in his sack’s mouth;

¹¹ and she vowed a vow and said, O LORD of the hosts, if thou wilt indeed look on the affliction of thy handmaid and remember me and not forget thy handmaid but wilt give unto thy handmaid a man child, then I will give him unto the LORD all the days of his life, and no razor shall come upon his head.

³ Behold, sons are a heritage of the LORD, and the fruit of the womb is to be desired.

¹² ¶ Hope deferred makes the heart sick: but when the desire is fulfilled, it is a tree of life.

² ¶ A prudent slave shall have rule over a son that causes shame and shall have part of the inheritance among the brethren.

⁵ even unto them will I give in my house and within my walls a place and a name better than of sons and of daughters: I will give them an everlasting name, that shall never be cut off.

⁵ And he gave him no inheritance in it, no, not so much as to set his foot on; yet he promised that he would give it to him for a possession and to his seed after him, when as yet he had no child.
