¹ ¶ Then Joseph fell upon his father’s face and wept upon him and kissed him. ² And Joseph commanded his slaves, the physicians, to embalm his father; and the physicians embalmed Israel. ³ And forty days were fulfilled for him; for so are fulfilled the days of those who are embalmed; and the Egyptians mourned for him seventy days. ⁴ And when the days of his mourning were past, Joseph spoke unto those of the house of Pharaoh, saying, If now I have found grace in your eyes, speak, I pray you, in the ears of Pharaoh, saying, ⁵ My father made me swear, saying, Behold, I die; in my grave which I have dug for me in the land of Canaan, there shalt thou bury me. Now therefore let me go up, I pray thee and bury my father, and I will come again. ⁶ And Pharaoh said, Go up and bury thy father, according as he made thee swear. ⁷ ¶ Then Joseph went up to bury his father, and with him went up all the slaves of Pharaoh, the elders of his house, and all the elders of the land of Egypt, ⁸ and all the house of Joseph and his brethren and his father’s house; only their little ones and their sheep and their cows, they left in the land of Goshen. ⁹ And both chariots and horsemen went up with him, and it was a very great company. ¹⁰ And they came to the threshingfloor of Atad, which is beyond Jordan, and there they mourned with a great and very sore lamentation; and Joseph made a mourning for his father seven days. ¹¹ And when the inhabitants of the land, the Canaanites, saw the mourning in the floor of Atad, they said, This is a great mourning of the Egyptians; therefore the name of it was called Abelmizraim, which is beyond the Jordan. ¹² And his sons did unto him according as he commanded them; ¹³ for his sons carried him into the land of Canaan and buried him in the cave of the field of Machpelah, which Abraham bought with the field for a possession of a buryingplace from Ephron the Hittite, before Mamre. ¹⁴ And Joseph returned into Egypt, he, and his brethren, and all that went up with him to bury his father, after he had buried his father. ¹⁵ ¶ And when Joseph’s brethren saw that their father was dead, they said, Joseph will peradventure hate us and will certainly requite us all the evil which we did unto him. ¹⁶ And they sent a messenger unto Joseph, saying, Thy father did command before he died, saying, ¹⁷ So shall ye say unto Joseph, Forgive, I pray thee now, the trespass of thy brethren and their sin, for they did unto thee evil; and now, we pray thee, forgive the trespass of the slaves of the God of thy father. And Joseph wept when they spoke unto him. ¹⁸ And his brethren also went and fell down before his face, and they said, Behold, we are thy slaves. ¹⁹ And Joseph said unto them, Fear not; for am I in the place of God? ²⁰ But as for you, ye thought evil against me; but God thought it out unto good, to bring to pass that which we see this day, to give life to many people. ²¹ Now therefore fear ye not; I will nourish you and your little ones. Thus he comforted them and spoke to their heart. ²² ¶ And Joseph dwelt in Egypt, he, and his father’s house: and Joseph lived one hundred and ten years. ²³ And Joseph saw Ephraim’s sons unto the third generation; the sons also of Machir, the son of Manasseh, were brought up upon Joseph’s knees. ²⁴ And Joseph said unto his brethren, I die; but God will surely visit you and bring you out of this land unto the land which he swore to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob. ²⁵ And Joseph took an oath of the sons of Israel, saying, God will surely visit you, and ye shall carry up my bones from here. ²⁶ So Joseph died, being one hundred and ten years old; and they embalmed him, and he was put in an ark in Egypt.

² And Sarah died in Kirjatharba; the same is Hebron in the land of Canaan; and Abraham came to mourn for Sarah and to weep for her.

⁴ I will go down with thee into Egypt; and I will also surely bring thee up again; and Joseph shall put his hand upon thine eyes.

⁷ and thou shalt repeat them diligently unto thy sons and shalt talk of them being in thy house and walking by the way, lying down in bed, and rising up; ⁸ and thou shalt bind them for a sign upon thy hand, and they shall be as frontlets between thy eyes;

¹⁴ Now Elisha was fallen sick of his sickness of which he died. And Joash the king of Israel came down unto him, and wept over his face, and said, O my father, my father, the chariots of Israel, and the horsemen thereof!

³⁸ And they came to the house of the prince of the synagogue and saw the tumult and those that wept and wailed greatly. ³⁹ And when he was come in, he said unto them, Why make ye this ado and weep? The damsel is not dead, but sleeps.

³⁵ Jesus wept. ³⁶ Then the Jews said, Behold how he loved him! ³⁷ And some of them said, Could not this man, who opened the eyes of the blind, have also caused that this man should not have died? ³⁸ Jesus therefore, becoming enraged again in himself, came to the grave. It was a cave, and a stone lay upon it.

² And devout men carried Stephen to his burial and made great lamentation over him.

⁴ And, ye fathers, provoke not your children to wrath, but bring them up in the discipline and admonition of the Lord.

¹³ ¶ But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning those who are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as the others who have no hope.

²⁶ So Joseph died, being one hundred and ten years old; and they embalmed him, and he was put in an ark in Egypt.

¹⁴ And they buried him in his own sepulchres, which he had made for himself in the city of David, and laid him in the bed which was filled with sweet odours and aromas prepared by the apothecaries’ art; and they made a very great burning for him.

¹² For in that she has poured this ointment on my body, she did it to prepare for my burial.

⁸ She has done what she could, for she has anticipated anointing my body for the burial.

¹ ¶ And when the sabbath of the great feast of the passover was past, Mary Magdalene and Mary the mother of James, and Salome had bought sweet spices that they might come and anoint him.

¹ ¶ Now upon the first of the sabbaths, very early in the morning they came unto the sepulchre, bringing the spices which they had prepared, and certain others with them.

⁷ Therefore Jesus said, Let her alone; against the day of my burying she has kept this;

³⁹ Then Nicodemus came also, who at the first came to Jesus by night, and brought a mixture of myrrh and aloes, about one hundred pounds. ⁴⁰ And they took the body of Jesus and wound it in linen clothes with the spices, as is the manner of the Jews to bury.

¹⁰ And they came to the threshingfloor of Atad, which is beyond Jordan, and there they mourned with a great and very sore lamentation; and Joseph made a mourning for his father seven days.

²⁹ And when all the congregation saw that Aaron was dead, they mourned for Aaron thirty days, even all the families of Israel.

¹³ and she shall put off the clothing of her captivity and shall remain in thine house and bewail her father and her mother a full month, and after that thou shalt go in unto her and be her husband, and she shall be thy wife.

⁸ And the sons of Israel wept for Moses in the plains of Moab thirty days; so the days of weeping and mourning for Moses were fulfilled.

³ and said, My Lord, if now I have found grace in thy sight, pass not away, I pray thee, from thy slave.

² and came before the king’s gate; for no one was allowed to enter into the king’s gate clothed with sackcloth.

¹⁹ in the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread until thou return unto the ground; for out of it wast thou taken, for dust thou art, and unto dust shalt thou return.

²⁹ And the time drew nigh that Israel must die; and he called his son Joseph and said unto him, If now I have found grace in thy sight, put, I pray thee, thy hand under my thigh and deal with me in mercy and truth; do not bury me, I pray thee, in Egypt; ³⁰ but I will lie with my fathers, and thou shalt carry me out of Egypt and bury me in their buryingplace. And he said, I will do as thou hast said. ³¹ And he said, Swear unto me. And he swore unto him. Then Israel bowed himself upon the bed’s head.

²¹ And Israel said unto Joseph, Behold, I die; but God shall be with you and bring you again unto the land of your fathers.

²⁹ And he charged them and said unto them, I am to be gathered unto my people; bury me with my fathers in the cave that is in the field of Ephron, the Hittite, ³⁰ in the cave that is in the field of Machpelah, which is before Mamre, in the land of Canaan, which Abraham bought with the field of Ephron, the Hittite for a possession of a buryingplace.

²⁴ And Joseph said unto his brethren, I die; but God will surely visit you and bring you out of this land unto the land which he swore to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob.

²² Therefore, I must die in this land and will not pass the Jordan, but ye shall pass and inherit that good land.

⁴³ Then Saul said to Jonathan, Tell me what thou hast done. And Jonathan told him, and said, I did but taste a little honey with the end of the rod that was in my hand; must I die for this.

²³ For I know that thou dost conduct me unto death and to the house appointed for all living.

³ They have shed their blood like water round about Jerusalem, and there was no one to bury them.

³ If a man begets a hundred sons and lives many years so that the days of his years are many, if his soul is not filled with good and also that he have no burial; I say that an aborted birth is better than he.

⁵ when they shall also be afraid of that which is high, and fears shall be in the way, and the almond tree shall flourish, and the grasshopper shall be a burden, and appetite shall fail: because man goes to the home of his age, and the mourners shall go about the streets;

⁷ and the dust returns to the earth as it was before and the spirit returns unto God who gave it.

¹⁶ What hast thou here? or whom hast thou here that thou hast hewed thee out a sepulchre here as he that hews himself out a sepulchre on a high place or that graves a habitation for himself in a rock?

²¹ And another of his disciples said unto him, Lord, suffer me first to go and bury my father. ²² But Jesus said unto him, Follow me, and let the dead bury their dead.

⁶⁰ and laid it in his own new tomb, which he had hewn out in the rock, and he rolled a great stone to the door of the sepulchre and departed.

⁵⁹ And he said unto another, Follow me. But he said, Lord, allow me first to go and bury my father. ⁶⁰ Jesus said unto him, Let the dead bury their dead, but go thou and declare the kingdom of God.

¹⁶ And he recovered all the goods and also brought again his brother Lot and his goods and the women also and the people.

⁸ And Moses and Aaron were brought again unto Pharaoh; and he said unto them, Go, serve the LORD your God. Who are those that shall go? ⁹ And Moses replied, We must go with our young and with our old, with our sons and with our daughters, with our sheep and with our cows we must go; for we have a solemn feast unto the LORD.

²⁶ Our cattle shall also go with us; not a hoof shall be left behind; for we must take thereof to serve the LORD our God; and we do not know with what we must serve the LORD until we arrive there.

²⁴ Build cities for your little ones and folds for your sheep and do that which has proceeded out of your mouth. ²⁵ And the sons of Gad and the sons of Reuben spoke unto Moses, saying, Thy slaves will do as my lord commands. ²⁶ Our little ones, our wives, our livestock, and all our beasts, shall be there in the cities of Gilead; ²⁷ but thy slaves, each one armed for war, will pass before the LORD to battle, as our lord saith.

⁴³ and he made him to ride in his second chariot; and they cried before him, Abrech Tender Father-honour this one as a precious father; and he made him ruler over all the land of Egypt.

²⁹ And Joseph made ready his chariot and went up to meet Israel his father, to Goshen, and manifested himself unto him; and he fell on his neck and wept on his neck a good while.

⁷ and he took six hundred chosen chariots and all the chariots of Egypt and the captains over them.

¹⁷ And behold, I will harden the hearts of the Egyptians that they shall follow them: and I will be glorified in Pharaoh and in all his host, in his chariots, and in his horsemen.

²⁸ And the waters returned, and covered the chariots and the horsemen and all the host of Pharaoh that came into the sea after them; there remained not so much as one of them.

²⁴ How then wilt thou turn away the face of one captain of the least of my master’s slaves, even though thou dost trust in Egypt for chariots and for horsemen?

⁹ I have compared thee, O my love, to a mare of the chariots of Pharaoh.

⁴ And when the days of his mourning were past, Joseph spoke unto those of the house of Pharaoh, saying, If now I have found grace in your eyes, speak, I pray you, in the ears of Pharaoh, saying,

¹¹ And when the inhabitants of the land, the Canaanites, saw the mourning in the floor of Atad, they said, This is a great mourning of the Egyptians; therefore the name of it was called Abelmizraim, which is beyond the Jordan.

¹¹ ¶ He that touches the dead body of any human person shall be unclean seven days.

¹ ¶ These are the words which Moses spoke unto all Israel on this side of the Jordan in the wilderness, in the plain over against the Red sea, between Paran, Tophel, Laban, Hazeroth, and Dizahab.

¹³ And they took their bones and buried them under a tree at Jabesh and fasted seven days.

¹⁷ ¶ And David lamented with this lamentation over Saul and over Jonathan his son.

¹³ So they sat down with him upon the ground seven days and seven nights, and no one spoke a word unto him; for they saw that his grief was very great.

⁷ And there was a strife between the pastors of Abram’s cattle and the pastors of Lot’s cattle; and the Canaanite and the Perizzite dwelt then in the land.

⁶ And Abraham said unto him, Beware that thou not bring my son there again.

³⁰ And Jacob said to Simeon and Levi, Ye have troubled me to make me to stink among the inhabitants of the land, among the Canaanites and the Perizzites; and I being few in number, they shall gather themselves together against me and slay me; and I shall be destroyed, I and my house.

²⁵ I pray thee, let me go over and see that good land that is beyond the Jordan, that goodly mountain and Lebanon.

²⁷ Climb up into the top of Pisgah and lift up thine eyes westward and towards the Aquilon and towards the Negev and eastward and behold it with thine eyes, for thou shalt not go over this Jordan.

³⁰ which are on the other side of the Jordan, by the way of the west, in the land of the Canaanite, who dwells in the plain over against Gilgal, beside the plains of Moreh.

¹⁸ and the golden rats, according to the number of all the cities of the Philistines belonging to the five cardinals; a ransom for those of the fenced cities and for the country dwellers even unto the great stone of Abel, upon which they placed the ark of the LORD in the field of Joshua, the Bethshemite, and this is remembered unto this day.

²⁹ And he charged them and said unto them, I am to be gathered unto my people; bury me with my fathers in the cave that is in the field of Ephron, the Hittite, ³⁰ in the cave that is in the field of Machpelah, which is before Mamre, in the land of Canaan, which Abraham bought with the field of Ephron, the Hittite for a possession of a buryingplace. ³¹ There they buried Abraham and Sarah, his wife; there they buried Isaac and Rebekah, his wife; and there I buried Leah. ³² The purchase of the field and of the cave that is therein was from the sons of Heth.

¹² ¶ Honour thy father and thy mother that thy days may be lengthened upon the land which the LORD thy God gives thee.

¹⁶ who were carried over into Shechem and laid in the sepulchre that Abraham bought for a sum of money from the sons of Hamor of Shechem.

¹ ¶ Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right.

¹⁶ ¶ Then Abraham hearkened unto Ephron, and Abraham weighed to Ephron the silver, which he had named in the audience of the sons of Heth, four hundred shekels of silver, current money with the merchant. ¹⁷ And the field of Ephron, which was in Machpelah, which was before Mamre, the field and the cave which was therein, and all the trees that were in the field that were in all the borders round about were made sure ¹⁸ unto Abraham for a possession in the presence of the sons of Heth, before all that went in at the gate of his city.

²⁰ And the field and the cave that is therein were made sure unto Abraham for a possession of a buryingplace by the sons of Heth.

⁹ And his sons Isaac and Ishmael buried him in the cave of Machpelah, in the field of Ephron the son of Zohar the Hittite, which is in front of Mamre;

²⁷ And Jacob came unto Isaac, his father, unto Mamre, unto the city of Arbah, which is Hebron, where Abraham and Isaac sojourned.

²⁹ And Isaac expired and died and was gathered unto his people, being old and full of days, and his sons Esau and Jacob buried him.

²⁹ And he charged them and said unto them, I am to be gathered unto my people; bury me with my fathers in the cave that is in the field of Ephron, the Hittite, ³⁰ in the cave that is in the field of Machpelah, which is before Mamre, in the land of Canaan, which Abraham bought with the field of Ephron, the Hittite for a possession of a buryingplace. ³¹ There they buried Abraham and Sarah, his wife; there they buried Isaac and Rebekah, his wife; and there I buried Leah.

¹⁸ And Manasseh slept with his fathers and was buried in the garden of his own house, in the garden of Uzza; and Amon his son reigned in his stead.

⁴¹ ¶ And Esau hated Jacob because of the blessing with which his father blessed him, and Esau said in his heart, The days of mourning for my father are at hand; then I will slay my brother Jacob. ⁴² And these words of Esau, her elder son, were told to Rebekah; and she sent and called Jacob her younger son and said unto him, Behold, thy brother Esau, as concerning thee, does comfort himself, purposing to kill thee.

²⁸ And when the Midianite merchantmen passed by, they took and lifted up Joseph out of the cistern and sold Joseph to the Ishmeelites for twenty pieces of silver. And they brought Joseph into Egypt.

¹⁷ And he put them all together into prison for three days.

²¹ ¶ And they said one to another, We are truly guilty concerning our brother in that we saw the anguish of his soul when he besought us, and we would not hear; therefore is this distress come upon us. ²² Then Reuben answered them, saying, Did I not speak unto you, saying, Do not sin against the young man, and ye would not hear? Therefore, behold, his blood is also required.

³⁶ And upon those that are left alive of you I will send such cowardice into their hearts in the lands of their enemies, that the sound of a shaken leaf shall chase them; and they shall flee as fleeing from a sword; and they shall fall when none pursue.

²¹ Fearful sounds are in his ears; in peace the destroyer shall come upon him. ²² He will not believe that he shall return out of darkness, and he is always watching the sword.

⁵ There they were in great fear: for God is with the nation of the righteous.

⁵ They were there in great fear where no fear was; for God has scattered the bones of him that encamps against thee: thou hast put them to shame because God has despised them.

¹ ¶ The wicked flee when no man pursues, but the righteous are bold as a young lion.

¹⁵ which show the work of the law written in their hearts, their conscience also bearing witness, accusing and also excusing their reasonings one with another)

²⁵ ¶ The fear of man brings a snare, but whosoever puts his trust in the LORD shall be lifted up.

⁴² If the God of my father, the God of Abraham, and the fear of Isaac, were not with me, surely thou would send me away now empty. God has seen my affliction and the work of my hands and rebuked thee last night.

⁴ Then Joseph said unto his brethren, Now come near to me, I pray you. And they came near. And he said, I am Joseph your brother, whom ye sold into Egypt. ⁵ Now therefore be not grieved, nor angry with yourselves that ye sold me here, for God sent me before you for life.

⁸ So now it was not you that sent me here, but God; and he has made me as a father to Pharaoh and lord of all his house and a ruler throughout all the land of Egypt.

²⁵ by the God of thy father, who shall help thee, and by the Almighty, who shall bless thee with blessings of the heavens above, with blessings of the deep that lies under, with blessings of the breasts and of the womb.

²⁰ But as for you, ye thought evil against me; but God thought it out unto good, to bring to pass that which we see this day, to give life to many people.

²⁷ He looks upon men, and if any say, I have sinned and perverted that which was right, and it did not profit me; ²⁸ God will ransom his soul from going into the pit, and his life shall see the light.

¹¹ For they intended evil against thee; they imagined a wicked device, but they did not prevail.

¹³ ¶ He that covers his sins shall not prosper, but whosoever confesses and forsakes them shall attain mercy.

¹² And set us free from our debts, as we set free our debtors.

¹⁴ For if ye set men free from their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also set you free; ¹⁵ but if ye do not set men free from their trespasses, neither will your Father set you free from your trespasses.

⁴² And whosoever shall give to drink unto one of these little ones a cup of cold water only in the name of a disciple, verily I say unto you, he shall in no wise lose his reward.

³⁵ So likewise shall my heavenly Father do also unto you unless from your hearts ye forgive every one his brother their trespasses.

⁴⁰ And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brothers, ye have done it unto me.

⁴¹ And when the ten heard it, they began to be angry against James and John.

³ Take heed to yourselves: If thy brother should trespass against thee, rebuke him; and if he repents, forgive him. ⁴ And if he trespasses against thee seven times in a day and seven times in a day turns again to thee, saying, I repent, thou shalt forgive him.

¹⁰ Therefore as long as we have the opportunity, let us do good unto everyone, especially unto those who are of the household of faith.

¹⁶ And as many as walk according to this rule, peace be on them and mercy, and upon the Israel of God.

³² and be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another even as God has forgiven you in Christ.

¹² ¶ Clothed, therefore, (as the elect of God, holy and beloved) with bowels of mercies, with kindness, with humility, with meekness, with tolerance, ¹³ forbearing one another and forgiving one another if anyone has a quarrel against another: even as Christ forgave you, so also do ye.

⁸ ¶ Therefore, though I might be very bold in Christ to command thee that which is expedient, ⁹ yet for the sake of charity I rather beseech thee, being such a one as Paul the aged and now also a prisoner of Jesus Christ. ¹⁰ I beseech thee for my son Onesimus, whom I have begotten in my bonds, ¹¹ who in time past was to thee unprofitable, but now is profitable to thee and to me, ¹² whom I send again unto thee; therefore, receive him, as you would receive me. ¹³ I desired to retain him with me, that in thy stead he might have ministered unto me in the bonds of the gospel, ¹⁴ but I did not want to do anything without thy counsel, that thy benefit should not be as it were of necessity, but willingly. ¹⁵ Perhaps for this, he departed from you for a season, that thou should have him again forever, ¹⁶ not now as a slave, but above a slave, a brother beloved, especially to me, but how much more unto thee, both in the flesh, and in the Lord. ¹⁷ If thou count me therefore a partner, receive him as myself. ¹⁸ If he has wronged thee or owes thee anything, put that on my account; ¹⁹ I Paul have written it with my own hand, I will repay it; albeit I do not say to thee how thou owest unto me even thine own self besides. ²⁰ Therefore, brother, let me have joy of thee in the Lord, that thou might refresh my heart in the Lord.

¹⁶ Confess your faults one to another and pray one for another that ye may be whole. The effectual prayer of the righteous is very powerful.

²⁹ Let the peoples serve thee and nations bow down to thee; be lord over thy brethren, and let thy mother’s sons bow down to thee; cursed be every one that curses thee, and blessed be he that blesses thee.

⁷ For, behold, we were binding sheaves in the field, and, behold, my sheaf arose and also stood upright; and, behold, your sheaves stood round about and made obeisance to my sheaf. ⁸ And his brethren said to him, Shalt thou indeed reign over us? Or shalt thou indeed have dominion over us? And they hated him yet the more for his dreams and for his words. ⁹ And he dreamed yet another dream and told it to his brethren, saying, Behold, I have dreamed another dream; and, behold, the sun and the moon and eleven stars made obeisance to me. ¹⁰ And he told it to his father and to his brethren; and his father reprehended him and said unto him, What is this dream that thou hast dreamed? Shall I and thy mother and thy brethren indeed come to bow down ourselves to thee to the earth? ¹¹ And his brethren envied him; but his father kept the word.

⁶ And Joseph was the lord over the land, and he it was that sold the wheat to all the people of the land; and Joseph’s brethren came and bowed down themselves before him with their faces to the earth.

¹⁴ And Judah and his brethren came to Joseph’s house, for he was yet there; and they fell before him on the ground.

³ And Joseph said unto his brethren, I am Joseph; does my father yet live? And his brethren could not answer him, for they were terrified at his presence.

² And Jacob’s anger was kindled against Rachel; and he said, Am I in God’s stead, who has withheld from thee the fruit of the womb?

⁵ Now therefore be not grieved, nor angry with yourselves that ye sold me here, for God sent me before you for life.

³⁵ Vengeance and recompense are mine, in the time when their foot shall slide; for the day of their calamity is at hand and that which is determined upon them makes haste.

⁷ And when the king of Israel read the letter, he rent his clothes and said, Am I God, to kill and to give life, that this man sends unto me to remove the leprosy of this man? Therefore now consider and see how he seeks a quarrel against me.

¹⁹ How much less to him who is not a respecter of the persons of princes, nor respects the rich more than the poor; for they all are the work of his hands. ²⁰ In a moment they shall die, and the peoples shall be troubled at midnight and shall pass away; and the mighty shall be taken away without hand. ²¹ For his eyes are upon the ways of man, and he sees all his steps. ²² There is no darkness nor shadow of death, where the workers of iniquity may hide themselves. ²³ For he will not lay upon man more than that which is just; that he should enter into judgment with God. ²⁴ He shall break in pieces mighty men without number and set others in their stead. ²⁵ Therefore, he shall cause their works to be notorious, when he shall overturn them in the night, so that they are destroyed. ²⁶ He shall strike them as wicked men in the open sight of others ²⁷ because thus they turned back from him and would not consider any of his ways ²⁸ so that they cause the cry of the poor to come unto him, and he hears the cry of the afflicted. ²⁹ When he gives rest, who then can make trouble? If he hides his face, who then can behold him? This applies to a nation and the same to a man,

²⁷ But straightway Jesus spoke unto them, saying, Trust that I AM; be not afraid.

³⁷ But they were terrified and frightened, and supposed that they were seeing a spirit. ³⁸ And he said unto them, Why are ye troubled? and why do thoughts arise in your hearts?

¹⁹ Not defending yourselves, dearly beloved; but rather give place unto the wrath of God, for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord.

³⁰ For we know who he is that has said, Vengeance belongs to me, I will recompense, saith the Lord. And again, The Lord shall judge his people.

⁴ And when his brethren saw that their father loved him more than all his brethren, they hated him and could not speak peaceably unto him.

¹⁸ And when they saw him afar off, even before he came near unto them, they conspired against him to slay him. ¹⁹ And they said one to another, Behold, this dreamer comes; ²⁰ now therefore, come and let us slay him and cast him into a cistern, and we will say, Some evil beast has devoured him; and we shall see what will become of his dreams.

⁵ Now therefore be not grieved, nor angry with yourselves that ye sold me here, for God sent me before you for life. ⁶ For these two years the famine has been in the land, and yet there are five years in which there shall neither be plowing nor harvest. ⁷ And God sent me before you that you might remain in the earth and that you might be given life by great liberty. ⁸ So now it was not you that sent me here, but God; and he has made me as a father to Pharaoh and lord of all his house and a ruler throughout all the land of Egypt.

⁵ Every day my life is filled with sorrow; all their thoughts are against me for evil.

¹⁰ Surely the wrath of man shall cause praise to come unto thee; the remainder of wrath shalt thou restrain.

¹⁶ Moreover he called for a famine upon the land; he broke the whole staff of bread. ¹⁷ He sent a man before them, even Joseph, who was sold for a slave,

⁷¹ ¶ It was good for me that I have been humbled, that I might learn thy statutes.

⁷ Howbeit he shall not think like this; not even in his heart shall he imagine this way of doing things, but his thought shall be to destroy and cut off nations not a few.

²³ him, being delivered by the determinate counsel and foreknowledge of God, ye have taken and by wicked hands have crucified and slain,

¹³ The God of Abraham and of Isaac and of Jacob, the God of our fathers, has glorified his Son Jesus, whom ye delivered up and denied him in the presence of Pilate, when he had judged to let him go. ¹⁴ But ye denied the Holy One and the Just and desired a murderer to be granted unto you ¹⁵ and killed the Author of life, whom God has raised from the dead, of which we are witnesses.

²⁶ Unto you first, God, having raised up his Son Jesus, sent him to bless you, that each one of you might turn from his iniquities.

²⁸ And we now know that unto those who love God, all things help them unto good, to those who according to the purpose are called to be saints.

³ And his soul was joined unto Dinah, the daughter of Jacob, and he fell in love with the damsel and spoke unto her heart.

¹⁰ And thou shalt dwell in the land of Goshen, and thou shalt be near unto me, thou and thy sons and thy sons’ sons and thy herds and thy cows and all that thou hast. ¹¹ And there I will nourish thee, for yet there are five years of famine, lest thou and thy household and all that thou hast perish of poverty.

¹² And Joseph nourished his father and his brethren, and all his father’s household with bread, according to their families.

² Speak ye according to the heart of Jerusalem and cry unto her that her time is now fulfilled that her iniquity is pardoned; for she has received of the LORD’s hand double for all her sins.

⁴⁴ But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless those that curse you, do good to those that hate you, and pray for those who speak evil about you, and persecute you;

¹⁴ For if ye set men free from their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also set you free;

²⁰ Therefore, if thine enemy hungers, feed him; if he thirsts, give him drink; for in so doing thou shalt heap coals of fire on his head. ²¹ Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.

¹⁵ See that no one renders evil for evil unto anyone, but always follow that which is good, both among yourselves and to all men.

⁹ not rendering evil for evil or curse for curse, but to the contrary, blessing, knowing that ye are called, that ye should possess a blessing by inheritance.

³ And she said, Behold my maid Bilhah, go in unto her; and she shall bear upon my knees, that I may also have children by her.

¹⁹ And his father refused and said, I know it, my son, I know it; he also shall become a people, and he also shall be great; but truly his younger brother shall be greater than he, and his seed shall become a multitude of Gentiles.

¹² His eyes red with wine, and his teeth white with milk.

³³ Thus Moses gave unto the sons of Gad and to the sons of Reuben and unto half the tribe of Manasseh, the son of Joseph, the kingdom of Sihon king of the Amorites and the kingdom of Og king of Bashan, the land, with its cities and borders, even the cities of the country round about.

³⁹ And the sons of Machir, the son of Manasseh, went to Gilead and took it and dispossessed the Amorite who was in it.

¹ ¶ There was also a lot for the tribe of Manasseh; for he was the firstborn of Joseph. Machir, the firstborn of Manasseh and father of Gilead, who was a man of war, had Gilead and Bashan.

¹⁶ After this Job lived one hundred and forty years, and saw his sons, and his sons’ sons, even four generations.

⁶ Yea, thou shalt see thy children’s children and peace upon Israel.

⁷ And the LORD appeared unto Abram and said, Unto thy seed will I give this land, and there he built an altar unto the LORD, who appeared unto him.

¹⁵ for all the land which thou seest, to thee will I give it and to thy seed for ever.

¹⁷ Arise, walk through the land in the length of it and in the breadth of it, for I must give it unto thee.

⁷ ¶ And he said unto him, I am the LORD that brought thee out of Ur of the Chaldees to give thee this land to inherit it.

¹⁴ and also that nation, whom they shall serve, I will judge; and afterward shall they come out with great riches. ¹⁵ And thou shalt go to thy fathers in peace; thou shalt be buried in a good old age. ¹⁶ But in the fourth generation they shall come here again; for the iniquity of the Amorites is not yet full.

¹⁸ In the same day the LORD made a covenant with Abram, saying, Unto thy seed shall I give this land, from the river of Egypt unto the great river, the river Euphrates:

⁸ And I will give unto thee and to thy seed after thee, the land in which thou art a stranger, all the land of Canaan, for an everlasting inheritance; and I will be their God.

¹ ¶ And the LORD visited Sarah as he had said, and the LORD did with Sarah as he had spoken.

³ abide in this land, and I will be with thee, and will bless thee; for unto thee, and unto thy seed, I will give all these lands, and I will confirm the oath which I swore unto Abraham thy father;

¹³ And, behold, the LORD stood above it and said, I AM the God of Abraham, thy father, and the God of Isaac; the land upon which thou dost lie, to thee will I give it and to thy seed;

¹² and the land which I have given to Abraham and to Isaac, to thee will I give it and to thy seed after thee will I give the land.

⁵ My father made me swear, saying, Behold, I die; in my grave which I have dug for me in the land of Canaan, there shalt thou bury me. Now therefore let me go up, I pray thee and bury my father, and I will come again.

¹⁶ ¶ Go and gather the elders of Israel together and say unto them, The LORD God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, of Isaac, and of Jacob, appeared unto me, saying, I have surely visited you and seen that which is done to you in Egypt, ¹⁷ and I have said, I will bring you up out of the affliction of Egypt unto the land of the Canaanite and the Hittite and the Amorite and the Perizzite and the Hivite and the Jebusite unto a land flowing with milk and honey.

³¹ And the people believed; and hearing that the LORD had visited the sons of Israel and that he had seen their affliction, they bowed and worshipped.

¹ ¶ And the LORD said unto Moses, Depart and go up from here, thou and the people which thou hast brought up out of the land of Egypt unto the land which I swore unto Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, saying, Unto thy seed will I give it.

¹¹ Surely none of the men that came up out of Egypt, from twenty years old and upward, shall see the land which I swore unto Abraham, unto Isaac, and unto Jacob; because they were not perfect in following me,

⁸ Behold, I have given the land in your presence; go in and possess the land which the LORD swore unto your fathers, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, that he would give unto them and to their seed after them.

¹⁰ And it shall be, when the LORD thy God shall have brought thee into the land which he swore unto thy fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give it unto thee: great and goodly cities, which thou didst not build,

¹² Therefore, in the manner which sin entered into the world by one man, and because of sin, death; and so death passed upon all men in the one in whom all sinned.

²⁷ And as it is appointed unto men to die once, and after this the judgment;

²² By faith Joseph, as he died, made mention of the departing of the sons of Israel, and gave a commandment concerning his bones.

¹⁹ And Moses also took the bones of Joseph with him, who had made the sons of Israel swear, saying, God will surely visit you; and ye shall carry up my bones away from here with you.

³² And the bones of Joseph, which the sons of Israel had brought up out of Egypt, they buried in Shechem in the part of the field which Jacob bought from the sons of Hamor, the father of Shechem, for one hundred ewes, and it became the inheritance of the sons of Joseph.

⁹ And Jacob said unto Pharaoh, The days of the years of my pilgrimage are one hundred and thirty years; few and evil have the days of the years of my life been and have not attained unto the days of the years of the life of my fathers in the days of their pilgrimage.

²⁸ And Jacob lived in the land of Egypt seventeen years; so the whole age of Jacob was one hundred forty-seven years.

² And Joseph commanded his slaves, the physicians, to embalm his father; and the physicians embalmed Israel. ³ And forty days were fulfilled for him; for so are fulfilled the days of those who are embalmed; and the Egyptians mourned for him seventy days.

²² ¶ And Joseph dwelt in Egypt, he, and his father’s house: and Joseph lived one hundred and ten years.

²⁹ ¶ And after these things, Joshua, the son of Nun, the slave of the LORD, died, being one hundred and ten years old.
