¹ ¶ Hear ye this, O house of Jacob, who call yourselves by the name of Israel, those that are come forth out of the waters of Judah, those who swear by the name of the LORD and make mention of the God of Israel, but not in truth, nor in righteousness. ² For they call themselves of the holy city and stay themselves upon the God of Israel. The LORD of the hosts is his name. ³ That which happened, I have already declared many days ago; and it went forth out of my mouth, and I published it; I did it suddenly, and it came to pass. ⁴ Because I know that thou art obstinate, and thy neck is an iron sinew, and thy brow bronze; ⁵ I have already declared it many days ago; before it came to pass I showed it to thee: lest thou should say, My idol has done it, my graven image, and my molten image, has commanded these things. ⁶ Thou hast heard it, thou hast seen it all; and will ye not declare it? I have showed thee new things from this time, even hidden things, and thou didst not know them. ⁷ They are created now, and not in days past; nor before this day hast thou heard them lest thou should say, Behold, I knew them. ⁸ Certainly thou hast never heard this; certainly thou hast never known this; certainly thine ear was never before opened: for I knew that being unfaithful thou would disobey; therefore, I called thee a rebel from the womb. ⁹ ¶ For my name’s sake I will defer my anger, and for my praise I will wait patiently for thee that I not cut thee off. ¹⁰ Behold, I have refined thee, and not as silver; I have chosen thee in the furnace of affliction. ¹¹ For mine own sake, even for mine own sake, I will do it, for how should my name be profaned? and I will not give my glory unto another. ¹² Hearken unto me, O Jacob and Israel, my called; I am he; I am the first, I also am the last. ¹³ Certainly my hand founded the earth, and my right hand measured the heavens with the palm; as I named them, they appeared together. ¹⁴ All ye, assemble yourselves and hear; who is there among them that declares these things? The LORD has loved him, the one who will execute his will on Babylon and his arm upon the Chaldeans. ¹⁵ I, even I, have spoken; I have called him: I have brought him, and therefore his way shall be prospered. ¹⁶ ¶ Come near unto me, hear ye this; I have not spoken in secret from the beginning; from the time that it was done, I was there: and now the LORD God has sent me and his Spirit. ¹⁷ Thus has the LORD, thy Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel said: I am the LORD thy God who teaches thee to profit, who causes thee to walk by the way in which thou dost walk. ¹⁸ O that thou would look unto my commandments! Then thy peace would be as a river and thy righteousness as the waves of the sea: ¹⁹ Thy seed would be as the sand, and the offspring of thy bowels like the gravel thereof; his name would never be cut off nor destroyed from before me. ²⁰ Come out of Babylon, flee from among the Chaldeans. Give news of this with a voice of joy; publish this; take this news to the end of the earth; say, The LORD has redeemed his slave Jacob. ²¹ And they did not thirst when he led them through the deserts; he caused water to flow out of the rock for them; he clave the rock, and the waters gushed out. ²² There is no peace for the wicked, said the LORD.

¹⁶ And I will make thy seed as the dust of the earth, so that if someone could number the dust of the earth, then shall thy seed also be numbered.

¹⁷ that in blessing I will bless thee and in multiplying I will multiply thy seed as the stars of the heaven and as the sand which is upon the sea shore; and thy seed shall possess the gates of his enemies;

²⁸ And he said, Thy name shall no longer be called Jacob, but Israel; for thou hast fought with God and with men, and hast prevailed.

¹⁰ And God said unto him, Thy name is Jacob; thy name shall not be called any more Jacob, but Israel shall be thy name, and he called his name Israel.

¹ ¶ Then Moses and the sons of Israel sang this song unto the LORD and spoke, saying, I will sing unto the LORD, for he has triumphed gloriously; the horse and his rider he has thrown into the sea. ² The LORD is my strength and song, and he is become my saving health; he is my God, and I will prepare him a habitation; my father’s God, and I will exalt him. ³ The LORD is a man of war; the LORD is his name. ⁴ Pharaoh’s chariots and his host he has cast into the sea; his chosen princes also are drowned in the Red sea. ⁵ The depths have covered them; they sank into the bottom as a stone. ⁶ Thy right hand, O LORD, is become glorious in power; thy right hand, O LORD, has dashed the enemy in pieces. ⁷ And in the greatness of thine excellency thou hast overthrown those that rose up against thee; thou didst send forth thy wrath, which consumed them as stubble. ⁸ And with the blast of thy nostrils the waters were gathered together, the floods stood upright as a heap, and the depths were congealed in the heart of the sea. ⁹ The enemy said, I will pursue, I will overtake, I will divide the spoil; my soul shall be satisfied upon them; I will draw my sword, my hand shall destroy them. ¹⁰ Thou didst blow with thy wind, the sea covered them. They sank as lead in the mighty waters. ¹¹ Who is like unto thee, O LORD, among the gods? Who is like thee, magnificent in holiness, fearful in praises, doing wonders? ¹² Thou didst stretch out thy right hand, the earth swallowed them. ¹³ Thou in thy mercy hast led forth the people which thou hast redeemed; thou hast guided them in thy strength unto the habitation of thy holiness. ¹⁴ The peoples shall hear and be afraid; sorrow shall take hold on the inhabitants of Philistia. ¹⁵ Then the dukes of Edom shall be amazed; the mighty men of Moab, trembling, shall take hold upon them; all the inhabitants of Canaan shall melt away. ¹⁶ Fear and dread shall fall upon them; by the greatness of thine arm they shall be as still as a stone, until thy people pass over, O LORD, until the people pass over, which thou hast purchased. ¹⁷ Thou shalt bring them in and plant them in the mountain of thine inheritance, in the place of thy dwelling which thou hast made ready, O LORD, in the Sanctuary of the Lord, which thy hands have established. ¹⁸ The LORD shall reign for ever and ever. ¹⁹ For Pharaoh went in on horseback with his chariots and with his horsemen into the sea, and the LORD brought again the waters of the sea upon them; but the sons of Israel went on dry land in the midst of the sea. ²⁰ And Miriam the prophetess, the sister of Aaron, took a timbrel in her hand; and all the women went out after her with timbrels and with dances. ²¹ And Miriam answered them, Sing ye to the LORD, for he has triumphed gloriously; the horse and his rider he has thrown into the sea.

⁶ Behold, I will stand before thee there upon the rock in Horeb, and thou shalt smite the rock, and water shall come out of it that the people may drink. And Moses did so in the sight of the elders of Israel.

⁴ Ye have seen what I did unto the Egyptians and how I bore you on eagles’ wings and brought you unto myself. ⁵ Now therefore, if ye will give ear to hearken unto my voice and keep my covenant, then ye shall be a special treasure unto me above all peoples; for all the earth is mine. ⁶ And ye shall be my kingdom of priests and a holy nation. These are the words which thou shalt speak unto the sons of Israel.

¹¹ for in six days the LORD made the heavens and earth, the sea, and all that is in them and rested the seventh day; therefore, the LORD blessed the sabbath day and sanctified it.

¹³ And in all things that I have said unto you, be circumspect and make no mention of the name of other gods, neither let it be heard out of thy mouth.

⁹ The LORD further said unto Moses, I have seen this people, and for certain it is a stiffnecked people.

³ Unto the land flowing with milk and honey; for I will not go up in the midst of thee; for thou art a stiffnecked people lest I consume thee in the way.

⁵ For the LORD had said unto Moses, Say unto the sons of Israel, Ye are a stiffnecked people; I will come up into the midst of thee in a moment and consume thee; therefore now put off thy ornaments from thee that I may know what to do unto thee.

¹² And ye shall not swear by my name falsely, neither shalt thou defile the name of thy God. I am the LORD.

¹⁵ and that thou hast caused all this people to die as one man; and the Gentiles who have heard of thy fame will speak, saying, ¹⁶ Because the LORD was not able to bring this people into the land which he swore unto them; therefore, he has slain them in the wilderness.

¹¹ Then Moses lifted up his hand, and with his rod he smote the rock twice; and the water came out abundantly, and the congregation drank, and their beasts also.

⁷ From his branches he shall distil waters, and his seed shall be in many waters, and his king shall be higher than Agag, and his kingdom shall be exalted.

²⁰ But the LORD has taken you and brought you forth out of the iron furnace, even out of Egypt, to be unto him the people of his inheritance, as ye are this day.

²⁸ And the LORD heard the voice of your words when ye spoke unto me, and the LORD said unto me, I have heard the voice of the words of this people, which they have spoken unto thee; they have well said all that they have spoken. ²⁹ O that there were such a heart in them that they would fear me and keep all my commandments always that it might be well with them and with their children for ever!

¹³ Thou shalt fear the LORD thy God and serve him and shalt swear by his name.

¹⁷ and thou say in thy heart, My power and the might of my hand has gotten me this wealth. ¹⁸ But thou shalt remember the LORD thy God, for it is he that gives thee the power to get wealth that he may confirm his covenant which he swore unto thy fathers, as it is this day.

⁷ ¶ Remember, and forget not, how thou hast provoked the LORD thy God to wrath in the wilderness; from the day that thou didst depart out of the land of Egypt until ye came unto this place, ye have been rebellious against the LORD. ⁸ Also in Horeb ye provoked the LORD to wrath, so that the LORD was angry with you to have destroyed you. ⁹ When I climbed up into the mount to receive the tables of stone, even the tables of the covenant which the LORD made with you, then I abode in the mount forty days and forty nights, without eating bread or drinking water; ¹⁰ and the LORD delivered unto me two tables of stone written with the finger of God, and on them was written according to all the words which the LORD spoke with you in the mount out of the midst of the fire in the day of the assembly. ¹¹ And it came to pass at the end of forty days and forty nights that the LORD gave me the two tables of stone, even the tables of the covenant. ¹² And the LORD said unto me, Arise, go down quickly from here, for thy people which thou hast brought forth out of Egypt have corrupted themselves; they are quickly turned aside out of the way which I commanded them; they have made themselves a molten image. ¹³ Furthermore, the LORD spoke unto me, saying, I have seen this people, and, behold, it is a stiffnecked people. ¹⁴ Let me alone that I may destroy them and blot out their name from under heaven; and I will make of thee a nation mightier and greater than they. ¹⁵ So I turned and came down from the mount with the two tables of the covenant in my two hands and the mount burned with fire, ¹⁶ and I looked, and, behold, ye had sinned against the LORD your God and had made yourselves a molten calf; ye had turned aside quickly out of the way which the LORD had commanded you. ¹⁷ Then I took the two tables and cast them out of my two hands and broke them before your eyes. ¹⁸ And I fell down before the LORD, as at the first, forty days and forty nights; I neither ate bread nor drank water because of all your sins in which ye sinned in doing wickedly in the sight of the LORD, to provoke him to anger. ¹⁹ For I was afraid of the anger and hot displeasure with which the LORD was wroth against you to destroy you. But the LORD hearkened unto me at that time also. ²⁰ And the LORD was very angry with Aaron to have destroyed him, and I prayed for Aaron also the same time. ²¹ And I took your sin, the calf which ye had made, and burnt it with fire and stamped it and ground it very small even until it was as small as dust, and I cast the dust thereof into the brook that descended out of the mount. ²² Also at Taberah and at Massah and at Kibrothhattaavah, ye provoked the LORD to wrath. ²³ Likewise when the LORD sent you from Kadeshbarnea, saying, Go up and inherit the land which I have given you; then ye rebelled against the commandment of the LORD your God, and ye did not believe him nor hearken to his voice. ²⁴ Ye have been rebels against the LORD from the day that I knew you.

¹⁶ Circumcise, therefore, the foreskin of your heart, and no longer be stiffnecked.

²⁰ Thou shalt fear the LORD thy God; him shalt thou serve, and to him shalt thou cleave and swear by his name.

²⁷ For I know thy rebellion and thy stiff neck; behold, while I am yet alive with you today, ye are rebels against the LORD, and how much more after my death?

²⁶ ¶ I said I would shatter them in pieces: I would make the remembrance of them to cease from among men, ²⁷ if I did not fear the wrath of the enemy, lest their adversaries should become vain and lest they should say, Our high hand has done this and not the LORD.

²⁹ O that they were wise, if they were prudent, they would understand their latter end!

³⁹ ¶ See now that I, I am he, and there are no gods with me; I kill, and I make alive; I wound, and I heal; and there is not one that can deliver out of my hand.

²⁸ Then Israel, the fountain of Jacob, shall dwell in safety alone in a land of grain and wine; also his heavens shall drop down dew.

⁸ This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth, but thou shalt meditate therein day and night that thou may keep and do according to all that is written therein; for then thou shalt make thy way to prosper, and then thou shalt understand everything.

⁹ For the Canaanites and all the inhabitants of the land shall hear of it and shall compass us around and cut off our name from upon the earth; then what wilt thou do unto thy great name?

⁴⁵ There failed not a word of all the good things which the LORD had spoken unto the house of Israel; all of it came to pass.

¹⁴ And, behold, this day I am going the way of all the earth and ye know in all your hearts and in all your souls that not one word has failed of all the good things which the LORD your God spoke concerning you; all are come to pass unto you, and not one thing has failed thereof. ¹⁵ Therefore it shall come to pass that as all the good things are come upon you, which the LORD your God promised you, so shall the LORD bring upon you all the evil things until he has destroyed you from off this good land which the LORD your God has given you

¹³ Then Micah said, Now know I that the LORD will do me good, seeing I have a Levite as my priest.

¹⁰ Moreover, I also take Ruth, the Moabitess, the wife of Mahlon, as my wife, to raise up the name of the dead upon his inheritance that the name of the dead not be cut off from among his brethren and from the gate of his place. Ye shall be witnesses of this today.

³ And when the people returned into the camp, the elders of Israel said, Why has the LORD smitten us today before the Philistines? Let us bring the ark of the covenant of the LORD out of Shiloh unto us that when it comes among us, it may save us out of the hand of our enemies. ⁴ So the people sent to Shiloh, and they brought from there the ark of the covenant of the LORD of the hosts, who dwells between the cherubim; and the two sons of Eli, Hophni and Phinehas, were there with the ark of the covenant of God. ⁵ And when the ark of the covenant of the LORD came into the camp, all Israel shouted with such a great shout that the earth trembled.

²² For the LORD will not forsake his people for his great name’s sake because it has pleased the LORD to make you his people.

²³ And who in the earth is like thy people, like Israel? A Gentile for the love of whom God went to ransom as a people to himself and to give him a name and to do with you great and terrible things in thy land because of thy people whom thou didst redeem unto thee from Egypt, from the Gentiles and their gods?

³⁶ then thou shalt hear in the heavens and forgive the sin of thy slaves and of thy people Israel, teaching them the good way in which they should walk and shalt give rain upon thy land, which thou hast given to thy people for an inheritance.

⁵¹ for they are thy people and thy inheritance, which thou didst bring forth out of Egypt, from the midst of the iron furnace.

⁷ I will cut off Israel out of the land which I have given them, and this house, which I have sanctified unto my name, I will cast out of my sight, and Israel shall be a proverb and a byword among all peoples;

¹⁴ Notwithstanding, they would not hear, but hardened their necks, like to the neck of their fathers, who had never believed in the LORD their God.

³⁴ Unto this day they do after the former manners; they do not fear the LORD, neither do they keep his statutes nor his ordinances nor the law and the commandments which the LORD commanded the sons of Jacob, whom he named Israel,

⁸ Therefore, do not be stiffnecked as your fathers were, but yield yourselves unto the LORD and enter into his sanctuary, which he has sanctified for ever and serve the LORD your God, that the fierceness of his wrath may turn away from you.

¹³ He rebelled, likewise, against King Nebuchadnezzar, unto whom he had sworn by God; but he stiffened his neck and hardened his heart from turning unto the LORD God of Israel.

¹⁵ And thou didst give them bread from heaven in their hunger and didst bring forth water for them out of the rock in their thirst and didst promise them that they should go in to possess the land which thou hadst sworn to give them. ¹⁶ But they and our fathers dealt proudly and hardened their necks and did not hearken unto thy commandments ¹⁷ and refused to hear; neither did they remember thy wonders that thou hadst done among them, but hardened their necks and in their rebellion thought to appoint a leader to return to their bondage; but thou art a God of pardons, gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and of great mercy, for thou didst not leave them.

²⁸ But after they had rest, they did evil again before thee; therefore, thou didst leave them in the hand of their enemies so that they had the dominion over them; yet when they returned and cried unto thee, thou didst hear them from the heavens; and many times didst thou deliver them according to thy mercies

³⁰ Yet many years didst thou forbear them and didst protest against them with thy spirit by the hand of thy prophets; yet they did not hear; therefore, thou didst give them into the hand of the peoples of the land. ³¹ Nevertheless, for thy great mercies’ sake thou didst not utterly consume them nor forsake them; for thou art a gracious and merciful God.

¹ ¶ And the rulers of the people dwelt at Jerusalem; but the rest of the people cast lots, to bring one of ten to dwell in Jerusalem the holy city and nine parts to dwell in the other cities.

¹⁸ All the Levites in the holy city were two hundred and eighty-four.

²⁰ The wicked man travails with pain all his days, and the number of years is hidden from the violent. ²¹ Fearful sounds are in his ears; in peace the destroyer shall come upon him. ²² He will not believe that he shall return out of darkness, and he is always watching the sword. ²³ He wanders abroad for bread, saying, Where is it? He knows that the day of darkness is prepared for him. ²⁴ Tribulation and anguish shall make him afraid; they shall prevail against him, as a king ready to the battle.

²¹ ¶ Make up thy friendship now with him, and thou shalt have peace; thereby good shall come unto thee. ²² Receive, I pray thee, the law from his mouth, and lay up his words in thine heart.

¹⁰ But he has known the way that I take; he has tried me, and I have come forth as gold.

²² Behold, God is exalted by his power; what teacher is like him?

¹⁸ Hast thou with him spread out the sky, which is strong and as a molten looking glass?

⁵ Thou hast reprehended the Gentiles, thou hast destroyed the wicked, thou hast put out their name for ever and ever.

⁸ ¶ Cheth Good and upright is the LORD: therefore he will teach sinners in the way. ⁹ Teth He will cause the humble to pass through the judgment, and the meek he will teach his way.

¹¹ Caph For thy name’s sake, O LORD, pardon my iniquity; for it is great. ¹² Lamed Who is the man that fears the LORD? Him shall he teach in the way that he shall choose.

⁸ I will instruct thee and teach thee in the way which thou shalt go; I will fix mine eyes upon thee.

⁸ They shall be abundantly satisfied with the fatness of thy house, and thou shalt make them drink of the river of thy pleasures.

⁶ ¶ Sacrifice and offering thou didst not desire; mine ears hast thou opened; burnt offering and sin offering thou hast not required.

⁹ I have preached righteousness in the great congregation; behold, I have not refrained my lips, O LORD, thou knowest. ¹⁰ I have not hid thy righteousness within my heart; I have declared thy truth and thy salvation; I have not concealed thy mercy and thy truth from the great congregation.

⁴ And in thy majesty be prospered; ride upon the word of truth and of humility and of righteousness; and thy right hand shall teach thee terrible things.

¹ A Song and Psalm
for the sons of Korah. ¶ Great is the LORD, and greatly to be praised in the city of our God, in the mountain of his holiness.

¹⁶ ¶ But unto the wicked God saith, What part hast thou to declare my statutes or that thou should take my covenant in thy mouth? ¹⁷ Seeing thou dost hate chastening and dost cast my words behind thee. ¹⁸ When thou didst see a thief, then thou didst consent with him and hast been partaker with adulterers. ¹⁹ Thou didst give thy mouth to evil, and thy tongue frames deceit. ²⁰ Thou didst sit and speak against thy brother; thou didst slander thine own mother’s son.

⁵ Behold, the pain of my iniquity has caused me to writhe; my mother conceived me so that sin might be removed from me.

³ The wicked are estranged from the womb; they go astray as soon as they are born, speaking lies.

¹¹ But the king shall rejoice in God; every one that swears by him shall be praised; for the mouth of those that speak lies shall be stopped.

³ Say unto God, How terrible art thou in thy works! Through the greatness of thy power shall thine enemies submit themselves unto thee.

¹⁰ For thou, O God, hast proved us; thou hast refined us as silver is refined.

²⁶ Bless ye God in the congregations, even the Lord, ye of the lineage of Israel.

¹⁵ My mouth shall show forth thy righteousness and thy salvation all the day, for I know not the numbers thereof. ¹⁶ I will go in the strength of the Lord GOD; I will make mention of thy righteousness, even of thine only. ¹⁷ O God, thou hast taught me from my youth and until now; I shall manifest thy wondrous works.

⁵ Do not lift up your horn on high; speak not with a stiff neck.

³ which we have heard and known, and our fathers have told us. ⁴ We will not hide them from their sons, showing to the generation to come the praises of the LORD and his strength and his wonderful works that he has done. ⁵ For he established a testimony in Jacob and appointed a law in Israel, which he commanded our fathers, that they should make them known to their sons: ⁶ That the generation to come might know them, even the sons which should be born; who should arise and declare them to their sons

⁸ and might not be as their fathers, a stubborn and rebellious generation, a generation that did not set their heart aright and whose spirit was not steadfast with God.

¹⁵ He clave the rocks in the wilderness and gave them drink as out of the great depths.

²⁰ Behold, he smote the rock that the waters gushed out, and the streams overflowed; can he give bread also? can he provide flesh for his people?

³⁸ But he, being full of compassion, forgave their iniquity and did not destroy them; many a time turned he his anger away and did not stir up all his wrath.

⁹ Help us, O God, our saving health, for the honor of thy name and deliver us and purge away our sins, for thy name’s sake.

¹³ Oh, if my people would hearken unto me and Israel would walk in my ways! ¹⁴ I would soon subdue their enemies and turn my hand against their adversaries. ¹⁵ The haters of the LORD would have submitted themselves unto him, and their time would endure for ever. ¹⁶ And God would have fed them also the finest of the wheat, and with honey out of the rock I would have satisfied thee.

³ Glorious things are spoken of thee, O city of God. Selah.

²⁵ Of old thou hast laid the foundation of the earth; and the heavens are the work of thy hands.

⁸ The LORD is merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and plenteous in mercy. ⁹ He will not always chide, neither will he keep his anger for ever. ¹⁰ He has not dealt with us after our sins, nor rewarded us according to our iniquities.

⁴¹ He opened the rock, and the waters gushed out; they ran in the dry places and became a river.

⁸ Nevertheless he saved them for his name’s sake, that he might make his mighty power to be known.

⁴³ Who is wise and will observe these things and shall understand the mercies of the LORD?

¹³ Let his posterity be cut off, and in the generation following let their name be blotted out.

¹³ ¶ With my lips I have declared all the judgments of thy mouth.

⁸⁹ ¶ LAMED. For ever, O LORD, thy word is settled in the heavens. ⁹⁰ Thy truth is from generation to generation; thou hast established the earth, and it perseveres. ⁹¹ They persevere unto this day by thy ordinance; for they are all thy slaves.

¹⁶⁵ ¶ Those who love thy law have great peace, and nothing shall cause them to stumble.

¹ A Song of degrees. ¶ When the LORD shall turn again the captivity of Zion, we shall be like those that dream.

¹ To the Overcomer, A Psalm of David. ¶ O LORD, thou hast searched me and known me. ² Thou knowest my sitting down and my rising up, thou dost understand my thoughts from afar. ³ Thou hast girded my walk and my rest, and hast prepared all my ways. ⁴ For the word is not even upon my tongue, and, behold, O LORD, thou dost know it altogether.

¹¹ By thy name, O LORD, thou shalt give me life; by thy righteousness thou shalt bring my soul out of trouble.

⁴ Daleth One generation shall praise thy works to another and shall declare thy mighty acts. ⁵ He I will speak of the beauty of the glory of thy majesty and of thy wondrous works.

³² ¶ Now therefore hearken unto me, O ye sons; for blessed are those that keep my ways.

³ ¶ The fining pot is for silver, and the furnace for gold, but the LORD tries the hearts.

¹² For thus saith the LORD, Behold, I will extend peace to her like a river and the glory of the Gentiles like a flowing stream; then shall ye suck, ye shall be borne upon her sides, and be dandled upon her knees.

²² For as the new heavens and the new earth, which I make, shall remain before me, saith the LORD, so shall your seed and your name remain.

³¹ O generation, see ye the word of the LORD. Have I been a wilderness unto Israel? a land of darkness? Why do my people say, We are lords; we will come no more unto thee?

³ Therefore the rain has been withheld, and there has been no latter rain; and thou dost have a whore’s forehead, thou dost refuse to be ashamed.

⁷ And I said after she had done all these things, Turn thou unto me. But she did not return. And her rebellious sister Judah saw it. ⁸ And I saw when for all the causes by which rebellious Israel committed adultery, I had put her away and given her a bill of divorce; yet her rebellious sister Judah did not fear, but went and played the harlot also. ⁹ And it came to pass through her judging her whoredom to be a light thing that the land became defiled and committed adultery with stones and with stocks. ¹⁰ And yet for all this her rebellious sister Judah has never turned unto me with her whole heart, but untruthfully, said the LORD. ¹¹ And the LORD said unto me, The rebellious Israel has justified her soul in comparison to the treacherous Judah.

²⁰ ¶ Surely as the woman breaks the faith of her husband, so have ye dealt treacherously with me, O house of Israel, said the LORD.

² And thou shalt swear, The LORD lives, in truth, in judgment, and in righteous ness; and the Gentiles shall bless themselves in him, and in him shall they glory.

² And if they should say, The LORD lives; surely they swear falsely. ³ O LORD, are not thine eyes upon the truth? Thou hast stricken them, but they did not feel it; thou hast consumed them, but they have refused to receive chastisement; they have made their faces harder than a rock; they have refused to return.

¹¹ For the house of Israel and the house of Judah have made a firm decision to rebel against me, saith the LORD.

²¹ Hear now this, O foolish people and without heart, who have eyes and do not see; who have ears, and do not hear:

¹⁰ To whom shall I speak, and give warning that they may hear? behold, their ears are uncircumcised, and they cannot hearken, behold, the word of the LORD is unto them a reproach; they have no delight in it.

¹⁶ Thus hath the LORD said, Stand ye in the ways and see and ask for the old paths, where the good way is and walk therein, and ye shall find rest for your souls. But they said, We will not walk therein.

⁴ Do not trust in lying words, saying, The temple of the LORD, The temple of the LORD, The temple of the LORD are these. ⁵ For if ye thoroughly amend your ways and your doings, if ye thoroughly do right between a man and his neighbour, ⁶ if ye do not oppress the stranger, the fatherless, and the widow, and shed no innocent blood in this place, neither walk after other gods to your hurt, ⁷ then I will cause you to dwell in this place, in the land that I gave to your fathers for ever and ever. ⁸ Behold, ye trust in lying words that cannot profit. ⁹ Will ye steal, murder, and commit adultery, and swear falsely, and burn incense unto Baal, and walk after other gods whom ye know not,

²⁶ yet they did not hearken unto me, nor incline their ear, but hardened their neck: they did worse than their fathers.

⁷ Therefore thus hath the LORD of the hosts said, Behold, I will melt them and try them; for how shall I do for the daughter of my people?

¹⁶ The portion of Jacob is not like them: for he is the Former of all things, and Israel is the rod of his inheritance: The LORD of the hosts is his name.

⁷ O LORD, though our iniquities testify against us, do it for thy name’s sake; for our rebellions have multiplied; we have sinned against thee.

¹⁵ Thus hath the LORD of the hosts, God of Israel said: Behold, I bring upon this city and upon all her towns all the evil that I have spoken against her because they have hardened their necks that they might not hear my words.

² Enquire, I pray thee, of the LORD for us; for Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon makes war against us; peradventure the LORD will deal with us according to all his wondrous works, and he will go up from upon us.

⁹ They shall come with weeping, but with mercies I will cause them to return; I will cause them to walk by the rivers of waters in a straight way, in which they shall not stumble; for I shall be a father to Israel, and Ephraim shall be my firstborn. ¹⁰ ¶ Hear the word of the LORD, O ye Gentiles, and cause it to be known in the isles afar off, and say, He that scattered Israel will gather him and keep him, as a shepherd does his flock.

¹² Therefore they shall come and do praises in the height of Zion and shall run unto the goodness of the LORD, unto the bread, and unto the wine, and unto the oil, and unto the gain of the flock and of the herd and their soul shall be as a watered garden; and they shall not sorrow any more at all. ¹³ Then shall the virgin rejoice in the dance, both young men and old together; for I will turn their mourning into joy and will comfort them and make them rejoice from their sorrow.

³³ But this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, said the LORD, I will give my law in their souls and write it in their hearts and will be their God, and they shall be my people. ³⁴ And they shall no longer teach every man his neighbour and every man his brother, saying, Know the LORD, for they shall all know me, from the least of them unto the greatest of them, said the LORD, for I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more.

²² As the host of heaven cannot be numbered, neither the sand of the sea measured, so will I multiply the seed of David my slave and the Levites that minister unto me.

¹⁵ ¶ Then all the men who knew that their wives had burned incense unto other gods, and all the women that stood by, a great multitude, even all the people that dwelt in the land of Egypt, in Pathros, answered Jeremiah, saying, ¹⁶ As for the word that thou hast spoken unto us in the name of the LORD, we will not hearken unto thee. ¹⁷ But we will certainly do whatsoever thing goes forth out of our own mouth to burn incense unto the queen of heaven and to pour out drink offerings unto her as we have done, we, and our fathers, our kings, and our princes, in the cities of Judah, and in the streets of Jerusalem; for then had we plenty of victuals, and were well, and saw no evil. ¹⁸ But since we left off to burn incense to the queen of heaven and to pour out drink offerings unto her, we have lacked all things and have been consumed by the sword and by the famine.

² Declare ye among the Gentiles, and publish, and set up a banner; publish, and do not conceal: say, Babylon is taken, Bel is confounded, Merodach is broken in pieces; her idols are confounded, her images are broken in pieces.

⁸ Flee out of the midst of Babylon, and go forth out of the land of the Chaldeans, and be as the meek in front of the flocks.

²¹ ¶ Go up against the land of Merathaim, even against it and against the inhabitants of Pekod; waste and utterly destroy after them, said the LORD, and do according to all that I have commanded thee. ²² A sound of battle is in the land and of great destruction. ²³ How is the hammer of the whole earth cut asunder and broken! How is Babylon become a desolation among the Gentiles! ²⁴ I have laid a snare for thee, and thou art also taken, O Babylon, and thou wast not aware; thou art found, and also caught because thou hast provoked the LORD. ²⁵ The LORD has opened his treasury and has brought forth the vessels of his indignation; for this is the work of the Lord GOD of the hosts in the land of the Chaldeans. ²⁶ Come against her from the ends of the earth, open her storehouses; cast her up as heaps and destroy her utterly: let nothing of her be left. ²⁷ Slay all her bullocks; let them go down to the slaughter. Woe unto them! for their day is come, the time of their visitation. ²⁸ The voice of those that flee and escape out of the land of Babylon, to declare in Zion the vengeance of the LORD our God, the vengeance of his temple. ²⁹ Call together the archers against Babylon; all ye that bend the bow, camp against it round about; let none thereof escape: recompense her according to her work; according to all that she has done, do unto her; for she has become proud against the LORD, against the Holy One of Israel.

⁶ Flee out of the midst of Babylon and deliver each one his soul that ye not perish because of her iniquity, for this is the time of the LORD’s vengeance; he will render unto her a recompense.

²⁰ Thou art my hammer, O weapons of war: for with thee I will break in pieces the Gentiles, and with thee I will destroy kingdoms; ²¹ and with thee I will break in pieces the horse and his rider; and with thee I will break in pieces the chariots and their riders; ²² with thee also I will break in pieces men and women; and with thee I will break in pieces old and young; and with thee I will break in pieces young men and virgins; ²³ I will also break in pieces with thee the shepherd and his flock; and with thee I will break in pieces the husbandman and his yoke of oxen; and with thee I will break in pieces dukes and princes. ²⁴ And I will render unto Babylon and to all the inhabitants of Chaldea all their evil that they have done in Zion in your sight, said the LORD.

⁴⁵ Come out of the midst of her, my people, and save each one his life from the fierce anger of the LORD.

⁴⁸ Then the heavens and the earth and all that is therein shall sing praises over Babylon; for the destroyers shall come unto her from the north, said the LORD.

² In the fifth day of the month, which was the fifth year of King Jehoiachin’s captivity,

⁴ Then he said unto me, Son of man, go and enter into the house of Israel, and speak with my words unto them. ⁵ For thou art not sent to a people of a profound speech nor of a hard language, but to the house of Israel; ⁶ not to many peoples of profound speech nor of hard language, whose words thou can not understand. Surely, had I sent thee to them, they would have hearkened unto thee. ⁷ But the house of Israel will not desire to hear; for they do not desire to hear me: for all the house of Israel are impudent and hardhearted. ⁸ Behold, I have made thy face strong against their faces, and thy forehead strong against their foreheads. ⁹ As diamond harder than flint I have made thy forehead: do not fear them, neither be dismayed at their looks, though they are a rebellious house.

³ and say, Thus hath the Lord GOD said concerning Jerusalem: Thy habitation and thy race was of the land of Canaan; thy father was an Amorite and thy mother a Hittite. ⁴ And as for thy nativity, in the day thou wast born thy navel was not cut, neither wast thou washed in water to supple thee; thou wast not salted at all, nor swaddled at all. ⁵ No eye pitied thee, to do any of these unto thee, to have mercy upon thee; but thou wast cast out in the open field with little value given to thy life, in the day that thou wast born.

⁹ With all this, I intervened for my name’s sake that it should not be polluted before the Gentiles, among whom they were, in whose sight I made myself known unto them, in bringing them forth out of the land of Egypt.

³⁸ and I will purge out from among you the rebels and those that rebelled against me; I will take them out of the country where they have gone, and they shall not enter into the land of Israel: and ye shall know that I am the LORD. ³⁹ As for you, O house of Israel, thus hath the Lord GOD said: Go, serve ye each one his idols, and hereafter also, if ye will not hearken unto me, but do not pollute my holy name any longer with your gifts and with your idols.

⁴⁴ And ye shall know that I am the LORD when I have intervened with you for my name’s sake, not according to your wicked ways, nor according to your corrupt doings, O ye house of Israel, said the Lord GOD.

¹⁸ Son of man, the house of Israel is to me become dross; they are all brass and tin and iron and lead in the midst of the furnace; they are become the dross of silver. ¹⁹ Therefore thus hath the Lord GOD said: Because ye are all become dross, behold, therefore I will gather you into the midst of Jerusalem. ²⁰ As they gather silver and brass and iron and lead and tin into the midst of the furnace to blow the fire upon it to melt it, so will I gather you in my anger and in my fury, and I will cause you to rest, and melt you. ²¹ I will gather you and blow upon you in the fire of my wrath, and ye shall be melted in the midst thereof. ²² As silver is melted in the midst of the furnace, so shall ye be melted in the midst thereof; and ye shall know that I the LORD have poured out my fury upon you.

²⁰ But when his heart made itself arrogant, and his spirit hardened itself in pride, he was deposed from the throne of his kingdom, and they took his glory from him:

¹⁷ Now therefore, O our God, hear the prayer of thy slave and his supplications and cause thy face to shine upon thy sanctuary that is made desolate, by the Lord. ¹⁸ O my God, incline thine ear and hear; open thine eyes, and behold our desolations, and the city which is called by thy name: for we do not present our supplications before thee confiding in our righteousnesses, but in thy many mercies. ¹⁹ O Lord, hear; O Lord, forgive; O Lord, hearken and do; defer not, for thine own sake, O my God: for thy city and thy people are called by thy name.

²⁴ Seventy weeks are determined {Heb. Cut} upon thy people and upon thy holy city to finish the prevarication and to conclude the sin and to make reconciliation for iniquity and to bring in everlasting righteousness and seal the vision and the prophecy, and to anoint the Holy of Holies.

⁸ And I heard, but I did not understand; then I said, O my Lord, what is the fulfillment of these things? ⁹ And he said, Go thy way, Daniel, for these words are closed up and sealed until the time of the fulfillment. ¹⁰ Many shall be purified and made white and purged, but the wicked shall get worse; and none of the wicked shall understand, but the wise shall understand. ¹¹ And from the time that the daily sacrifice is taken away until the abomination of desolation, there shall be a thousand two hundred and ninety days. ¹² Blessed is he that waits and comes unto one thousand three hundred and thirty-five days. ¹³ And thou shall go to the end and shalt rest, and thou shalt raise up in thy lot {or in thine inheritance} at the end of the days.

¹⁰ With all this, the number of the sons of Israel shall be as the sand of the sea, which cannot be measured nor numbered; and it shall come to pass that in the place where it was said unto them, Ye are not my people, there it shall be said unto them, Ye are the sons of the living God.

⁷ They have rebelled against the LORD; for they have begotten strange sons; now a month shall devour them with their portions.

⁷ But they have transposed the covenant as of men: there they have rebelled against me.

⁶ Shall the shofar be blown in the city and the people not be afraid? Shall there be any evil in the city which the LORD has not done?

²⁴ But let judgment run down as waters, and righteousness as a mighty stream.

¹¹ the heads thereof judge for bribes, and the priests thereof teach for hire, and the prophets thereof divine for money: yet they come near unto the LORD, and say, Is not the LORD among us? No evil can come upon us.

² And many Gentiles shall come and say, Come, and let us go up to the mountain of the LORD and to the house of the God of Jacob; and he will teach us of his ways, and we will walk in his paths: for the law shall go forth from Zion and the word of the LORD from Jerusalem.

⁹ ¶ The LORD’s voice cries out unto the city, and the man of wisdom shall see thy name: hear ye the rod, and he who has established it.

⁴ And I will extend my hand over Judah and over all the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and I will cut off the remnant of Baal from this place and the name of their religious persons with their priests ⁵ and those that worship the host of heaven upon the housetops and those that worship swearing by the LORD and by their king

⁶ ¶ Ho, ho, come forth, and flee from the land of the north, saith the LORD, for I have spread you abroad by the four winds of the heavens, saith the LORD. ⁷ O Zion, that dwellest with the daughter of Babylon, thou must escape. ⁸ For thus hath the LORD of the hosts said; After the glory he shall send me unto the Gentiles which spoiled you, for he that touches you touches the apple of his eye. ⁹ For, behold, I raise my hand regarding them, and they shall be a spoil to their servants; and ye shall know that the LORD of the hosts has sent me. ¹⁰ ¶ Sing and rejoice, O daughter of Zion, for, behold, I come, and I will dwell in the midst of thee, said the LORD. ¹¹ And many Gentiles shall join themselves unto the LORD in that day and shall be my people, and I will dwell in the midst of thee, and then thou shalt know that the LORD of the hosts has sent me unto thee.

¹¹ But they refused to hearken and pulled away the shoulder and stopped their ears that they should not hear. ¹² Yea, they made their hearts as an adamant stone lest they should hear the law and the words which the LORD of the hosts has sent by his Spirit by the hand of the former prophets; therefore came great wrath from the LORD of the hosts.

⁸ And it shall come to pass that in all the land, said the LORD, two parts therein shall be cut off in her and shall be lost; but the third shall be left therein. ⁹ And I will put the third part into the fire and will refine them as silver is refined and will try them as gold is tried; He shall call on my name, and I will hear him; I will say, My people, and he shall say, The LORD is my God.

¹¹ Judah has dealt treacherously, and an abomination has been committed in Israel and in Jerusalem; for Judah has profaned the holiness of the LORD by loving and marrying the daughter of a strange god.

² But who may abide the time of his coming? and who shall stand when he appears? for he shall be like a refiner’s fire and like fullers’ soap: ³ And he shall sit to refine and to purify the silver: for he shall purify the sons of Levi and purge them as gold and silver that they may offer unto the LORD an offering in righteousness.

⁵ And I will come near unto you for judgment; and I will be a swift witness against the sorcerers and against the adulterers and against false swearers and against those that oppress the hireling in his wages, the widow, and the fatherless, and that turn aside the stranger from his right, and do not fear me, said the LORD of the hosts.

⁵ Then the devil took him up into the holy city and set him on a pinnacle of the temple

²⁷ What I tell you in darkness, that speak ye in light, and what ye hear in the ear, that preach ye from the housetops.

¹³ Therefore, I speak to them in parables because seeing they see not, and hearing they hear not, neither do they understand. ¹⁴ And in them is fulfilled the prophecy of Isaiah, which says, By hearing ye shall hear and shall not understand, and seeing ye shall see and shall not perceive; ¹⁵ for this people’s heart is waxed gross, and their ears are dull of hearing, and their eyes they have closed lest at any time they should see with their eyes and hear with their ears and should understand with their heart and should be converted, and I should heal them.

⁸ This people draws nigh unto me with their mouth and honours me with their lips, but their heart is far from me. ⁹ But in vain do they worship me, teaching doctrines and commandments of men.

¹⁶ So the first shall be last, and the last first; for many are called, but few are chosen.

¹³ ¶ But woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye shut up the kingdom of the heavens in front of men, for ye neither go in yourselves, neither suffer ye those that are entering to go in.

³⁷ O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, thou that didst kill the prophets and stone those who are sent unto thee, how often I desired to gather thy children together, even as a hen gathers her chickens under her wings, and ye would not!

⁵³ and came out of the graves after his resurrection and went into the holy city and appeared unto many.

²¹ Then Jesus beholding him loved him and said unto him, One thing thou lackest: go, sell all that thou hast and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven; and come, take up the cross {Gr. stauros – stake}, and follow me taking up thy stake (if thy desire is to be perfect).

⁷⁰ as he spoke by the mouth of the saints who from the beginning were his prophets;

¹⁸ The Spirit of the Lord is upon me because he has anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he has sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those that are broken,

⁴¹ ¶ And when he was come near, he beheld the city and wept over it, ⁴² saying, If thou hadst known, even thou, at least in this thy day, the things which belong unto thy peace! but now they are hid from thine eyes.

⁴⁷ Jesus saw Nathanael coming to him and said of him, Behold a true Israelite, in whom is no guile!

³⁴ For he whom God has sent speaks the words of God; for God does not give the Spirit by measure unto him.

²⁴ God is a Spirit and those that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.

²³ that everyone should honour the Son, even as they honour the Father. He that does not honour the Son does not honour the Father who has sent him.

⁴⁵ It is written in the prophets, And they shall all be taught of God. Every man therefore that has heard from the Father and has learned comes unto me.

⁴⁰ But now ye seek to kill me, a man that has told you the truth, which I have heard of God; Abraham did not do this. ⁴¹ Ye do the deeds of your father. Then they said to him, We are not born of fornication; we have one Father, even God.

³⁹ Therefore they could not believe, because Isaiah said again, ⁴⁰ He has blinded their eyes and hardened their heart, that they should not see with their eyes nor understand with their heart and be converted, and I should heal them.

¹⁵ From now on I do not call you slaves, for the slave does not know what his lord does; but I have called you friends, for all things that I have heard of my Father I have made known unto you.

²⁰ Jesus answered him, I spoke openly to the world; I always taught in the synagogue and in the temple, where all the Jews gather; and I have said nothing in secret.

²¹ Then Jesus said to them again, Peace be unto you; as my Father has sent me, even so send I you. ²² And when he had said this, he breathed on them and said unto them, Receive ye the Holy Spirit;

⁸ But ye shall receive the virtue of the Holy Spirit which shall come upon you, and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem and in all Judaea and in Samaria and unto the uttermost part of the earth.

⁵¹ ¶ Ye stiffnecked and uncircumcised in heart and ears, ye do always resist the Holy Spirit; as your fathers did, so do ye.

¹⁸ Known unto God are all his works from the beginning of the world.

⁶ among whom ye are also the called of Jesus Christ;

⁵ But after thy hardness and impenitent heart treasures up unto thyself wrath against the day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgment of God,

¹⁷ ¶ Behold, thou doth call thyself a Jew and art supported by the law and doth glory in God

²⁴ For the name of God is blasphemed among the Gentiles through you, as it is written.

²⁸ For he is not a Jew who is one outwardly, neither is circumcision that which is done outwardly in the flesh; ²⁹ but he is a Jew who is one inwardly, and circumcision is that of the heart, in the spirit and not in the letter, whose praise is not of men, but of God.

¹⁷ and the way of peace they have not known;

²⁸ And we now know that unto those who love God, all things help them unto good, to those who according to the purpose are called to be saints.

⁶ ¶ Not as though the word of God has been deficient. For not all the descendants of Israel are Israelites;

⁸ That is, Those who are sons of the flesh, these are not the sons of God; but those who are sons of the promise are counted in the generation.

²⁷ Isaiah also cries out concerning Israel, Though the number of the sons of Israel be as the sand of the sea, only a remnant shall be saved;

¹⁷ for the kingdom of God is not food and drink, but righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit.

²⁵ ¶ Now to him that is able to confirm you according to my gospel and the preaching of Jesus Christ, according to the revelation of the mystery which was concealed from times eternal ²⁶ but now is made manifest, and by the writings of the prophets, by the commandment of God eternal, declared unto all the Gentiles, that they might hear and obey by faith,

²⁴ but unto those who are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ is the power of God, and the wisdom of God.

⁹ But as it is written, That which eye has not seen nor ear heard neither has entered into the heart of man is that which God has prepared for those that love him.

³ among whom also we all had our conversation in times past in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind and were by nature the children of wrath, even as all the others.

²¹ if so be that ye have heard him and have been taught by him, as the truth is in Jesus,

² that in hypocrisy shall speak lies; having their conscience seared as with a hot iron;

² For there shall be men who are lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, evil speakers, disobedient to their parents, unthankful, impure, ³ without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, without temperance, without meekness, without goodness, ⁴ traitors, rash, puffed up, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God, ⁵ having the appearance of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.

¹⁰ And Thou, Lord, in the beginning hast laid the foundation of the earth; and the heavens are the works of thine hands: ¹¹ they shall perish; but thou dost remain; and they all shall wax old as doth a garment; ¹² and as a vesture shalt thou fold them up, and they shall be changed; but thou art the same, and thy years shall never fail.

¹³ But exhort one another daily, while it is called Today, lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin.

¹⁰ For they verily for a few days chastened us as it seemed good unto them, but he for our profit, that we might be partakers of his holiness. ¹¹ It is true that no chastening at present seems to be cause for joy, but rather for grief; nevertheless, afterward it yields the peaceable fruit of righteousness unto those who are exercised by it.

⁷ that the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold (which perishes, nevertheless it is tried with fire), might be found unto praise and glory and honour when Jesus, the Christ, is made manifest;

¹⁰ ¶ Of which saving health the prophets, (who prophesied of the grace that was to come in you) have enquired and searched diligently; ¹¹ searching when and in what point of time the Spirit of Christ which was in them did signify, which announced beforehand the afflictions that were to come upon the Christ, and the glory that should follow them. ¹² Unto whom it was revealed that not unto themselves, but unto us they did administer the things, which are now announced unto you by those that have preached the gospel unto you by the Holy Spirit sent down from heaven, which things the angels desire to look into.

⁹ But ye are the chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, an acquired people, that ye should show forth the virtues of him who has called you out of darkness into his marvellous light.

¹² ¶ Beloved, think it not strange when you are tried by fire (which is done to prove you) as though some strange thing happened unto you,

⁸ I AM the Alpha and the Omega, beginning and end, saith the Lord, who is and who was and who is to come, the Almighty.

¹¹ that said, I AM the Alpha and the Omega, the first and the last, and What thou seest, write in a book and send it unto the seven congregations {Gr. ekklesia – called out ones} which are in Asia: unto Ephesus and unto Smyrna and unto Pergamos and unto Thyatira and unto Sardis and unto Philadelphia and unto Laodicea.

¹⁷ And when I saw him, I fell at his feet as dead. And he laid his right hand upon me, saying unto me, Fear not; I AM the first and the last, ¹⁸ and he that lives and was dead; and, behold, I am alive for evermore, Amen, and have the keys of Hades and of death. ¹⁹ Write the things which thou hast seen and the things which are and the things which must be after these.

⁸ ¶ And unto the angel of the congregation {Gr. ekklesia – called out ones} of Smyrna write: These things, saith the first and the last, who was dead, and is alive: ⁹ I know thy works and tribulation and poverty, (but thou art rich), and I know the blasphemy of those who say they are Jews and are not, but are the synagogue of Satan.

⁹ Behold, I give of the synagogue of Satan, who say they are Jews and are not, but do lie; behold, I will constrain them to come and worship before thy feet and to know that I have loved thee.

¹⁹ As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten; be zealous therefore, and repent.

¹ ¶ After these things I looked, and, behold, an open door in heaven, and the first voice which I heard, was like a trumpet that spoke with me, saying, Come up here, and I will show thee the things that need to be done after these.

¹ ¶ And I saw in the right hand of him that was seated on the throne a book written within and on the backside, sealed with seven seals. ² And I saw a strong angel preaching with a loud voice, Who is worthy to open the book and to loose its seals?

¹ ¶ And I saw when the Lamb had opened the first seal, and I heard the first of the four animals, saying as with a voice of thunder, Come and see. ² And I saw and, behold, a white horse; and he that was seated upon him had a bow, and a crown was given unto him, and he went forth victorious, that he might also overcome. ³ ¶ And when he had opened the second seal, I heard the second animal, which said, Come and see. ⁴ And another horse went forth that was red, and unto him that was seated thereon was given power to take away the peace of the earth and that they should kill one another; and there was given unto him a great sword. ⁵ And when he had opened the third seal, I heard the third animal, which said, Come and see. And I saw and, behold, a black horse, and he that was seated upon him had a yoke in his hand. ⁶ And I heard a voice in the midst of the four animals, which said, A choenix of wheat for a denarius and three choenix of barley for a denarius; and see thou hurt not the oil and the wine. ⁷ And when he had opened the fourth seal, I heard the voice of the fourth animal, which said, Come and see. ⁸ And I looked and, behold, a green horse, and he that was seated upon him was named Death, and Hades followed with him. And power was given unto him over the fourth part of the earth, to kill with sword and with hunger and with death and with the beasts of the earth. ⁹ ¶ And when he had opened the fifth seal, I saw under the altar the souls of those that had been slain because of the word of God and for the testimony which they held: ¹⁰ And they cried with a loud voice, saying, How long, O Lord, holy and true, dost thou not judge and avenge our blood on those that dwell in the earth? ¹¹ And white robes were given unto each one of them; and it was said unto them, that they should rest yet for a little while until their fellow servants and their brethren, that should be killed as they were, should be fulfilled. ¹² And I saw when he had opened the sixth seal, and, behold, there was a great earthquake; and the sun became black as sackcloth of hair, and the moon became as blood; ¹³ and the stars of heaven fell upon the earth, even as a fig tree casts her figs, when she is shaken of a mighty wind. ¹⁴ And the heaven departed as a scroll when it is rolled together; and every mountain and island were moved out of their places. ¹⁵ And the kings of the earth and the princes and the rich and the captains and the strong and every slave and every free man hid themselves in the caves and among the rocks of the mountains ¹⁶ and said to the mountains and to the rocks, Fall on us and hide us from the face of him that is seated upon the throne and from the wrath of the Lamb; ¹⁷ for the great day of his wrath is come, and who shall be able to stand before him?

² But leave out the court which is within the temple and measure it not, for it is given unto the Gentiles, and the holy city shall they tread under foot forty-two months.

¹⁴ ¶ These shall make war against the Lamb, and the Lamb shall overcome them; for he is Lord of lords and King of kings; and those that are with him are called and chosen and faithful.

⁴ And I heard another voice from the heaven, saying, Come out of her, my people, that ye not be partakers of her sins, and that ye receive not of her plagues.

²⁰ Rejoice over her, thou heaven, and ye saints, apostles, and prophets; for God has judged your cause upon her.

¹ ¶ And after these things I heard a great voice of a great company in the heaven, saying, Halelu-JAH; Salvation and glory and honour and power unto the Lord our God; ² for true and righteous are his judgments; for he has judged the great whore, who corrupted the earth with her fornication, and has avenged the blood of his slaves at her hand. ³ And again they said, Halelu-JAH. And her smoke rose up for ever and ever. ⁴ And the twenty-four elders and the four animals fell upon their faces and worshipped God that was seated upon the throne, saying, Amen! Halelu-JAH! ⁵ ¶ And a voice came out of the throne, saying, Praise our God, all ye his slaves and ye that fear him, both small and great. ⁶ And I heard as it were the voice of a great company and as the voice of many waters and as the voice of mighty thunderings, saying, Halelu-JAH; for the Lord God almighty reigns.

² And I, John, saw the holy city, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of the heaven, prepared of God as a bride adorned for her husband.

¹³ I AM the Alpha and the Omega, beginning and end, the first and the last.

¹⁹ and if anyone shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life and out of the holy city and from the things which are written in this book.
