¹ ¶ James, {Gr. Jacob}, a slave of God and of the Lord Jesus, the Christ, to the twelve tribes which are scattered abroad, greeting. ² ¶ My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into diverse trials, ³ knowing that the proving of your faith works patience, ⁴ and the patience finishes the work, that ye may be perfect and entire, not lacking in anything. ⁵ And if any of you lacks wisdom, let them ask of God (who gives abundantly to all, and without reproach), and it shall be given them. ⁶ But ask in faith, not doubting anything. For he that doubts is like the wave of the sea which is driven of the wind and is tossed from one side to another. ⁷ For let not such a man think that he shall receive anything of the Lord. ⁸ The double minded man is unstable in all his ways. ⁹ Let the brother of low degree rejoice in his high status; ¹⁰ and he who is rich, in his low status, because as the flower of the grass he shall pass away. ¹¹ For the sun is no sooner risen with a burning heat, but it withers the grass, and its flower falls, and the beautiful appearance of it perishes: so also shall the rich man fade away in his ways. ¹² Blessed is the man that patiently endures temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord has promised to those that love him. ¹³ ¶ Let no one say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God; for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither does he tempt anyone: ¹⁴ But each one is tempted, when they are drawn away of their own lust and enticed. ¹⁵ Then when lust has conceived, it brings forth sin; and sin, when it is finished, brings forth death. ¹⁶ Do not err, my beloved brethren. ¹⁷ Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness neither shadow of turning. ¹⁸ He, of his own will, has begotten us with the word of truth, that we should be the firstfruits of his creatures. ¹⁹ ¶ Therefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be quick to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath; ²⁰ for the wrath of man does not work the righteousness of God. ²¹ So then, leave all uncleanness and remains of malice and receive with meekness the word ingested within you, which is able to cause your souls to be saved. ²² But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves. ²³ For if anyone hears the word and does not put it into practice, this same is like unto the man beholding his natural face in a mirror: ²⁴ For he considered himself and went his way and in one hour forgot what he was like. ²⁵ But whosoever has looked attentively into the perfect law of liberty and has persevered in it, not being a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, the same shall be blessed in their deed. ²⁶ If anyone among you thinks to be religious and does not bridle his tongue, but deceives his own heart, his religion is vain. ²⁷ The pure and undefiled religion before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their tribulation and to keep thyself unspotted from this world.

⁴ And Moses wrote all the words of the LORD and rose up early in the morning and built an altar at the foot of the mount and twelve pillars, according to the twelve tribes of Israel.

¹ ¶ And Saul was consenting unto his death. And at that time there was a great persecution against the congregation {Gr. ekklesia – called out ones} which was at Jerusalem, and they were all scattered abroad throughout the regions of Judaea and Samaria, except the apostles.

¹⁷ But he, beckoning unto them with the hand to be silent, declared unto them how the Lord had brought him out of the prison. And he said, Go make these things known unto James and to the brethren. And he departed and went to another place.

¹⁰ Blessed are those who suffer persecution for righteousness’ sake, for theirs is the kingdom of the heavens. ¹¹ Blessed are ye when men shall revile you and persecute you and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely for my sake. ¹² Rejoice and be exceeding glad, for great is your reward in the heavens; for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you.

²² Blessed are ye when men shall hate you and when they shall separate you from their company and shall reproach you and cast out your name as evil for the sake of the Son of man. ²³ Rejoice ye in that day and leap for joy; for, behold, your reward is great in heaven, for their fathers treated the prophets in the same manner.

⁴¹ And they departed from the presence of the council, rejoicing that they were counted worthy to suffer shame for his name.

¹⁷ ¶ and if sons, also heirs certainly of God and joint-heirs with Christ, if so be that we suffer with him that we may be also glorified together with him. ¹⁸ For I know with certainty that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the coming glory which shall be manifested in us.

³⁵ Who shall separate us from the charity of Christ? shall tribulation or distress or persecution or famine or nakedness or peril or sword? ³⁶ (As it is written, For thy sake we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter.) ³⁷ Nevertheless, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us.

⁹ And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee; for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly, therefore, I will rather glory in my weaknesses that the power of Christ may dwell in me. ¹⁰ Therefore I am content in weaknesses, in reproaches, in necessities, in persecutions, in distresses for Christ’s sake, for when I am weak, then am I strong.

²⁹ For unto you it is granted regarding Christ, not only to believe on him, but also to suffer for his sake,

¹⁷ And even if I am poured out as an offering upon the sacrifice and service of your faith, I joy and rejoice with you all.

²⁴ who now rejoice in my sufferings for you and fulfill in my flesh that which is lacking of the tribulations of the Christ for his body’s sake, which is the congregation {Gr. ekklesia – called out ones},

³⁴ For ye had compassion of me in my bonds and took joyfully the spoiling of your goods, knowing that in yourselves ye have a better substance in the heavens, and that abides.

³⁶ and others experienced cruel mockings and scourgings, and added to this, bonds and imprisonment; ³⁷ they were stoned; they were sawn asunder, were tempted, were slain with the sword; they wandered about in sheepskins and goatskins; poor, afflicted, mistreated, ³⁸ (of whom the world was not worthy); they wandered in deserts and in mountains and in dens and caves of the earth.

⁶ ¶ In which ye greatly rejoice, though now for a season, if need be, ye are afflicted in diverse temptations, ⁷ that the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold (which perishes, nevertheless it is tried with fire), might be found unto praise and glory and honour when Jesus, the Christ, is made manifest; ⁸ whom having not seen, ye love; in whom, though at present ye see him not, yet believing, ye rejoice with joy unspeakable and full of glory;

¹³ but rejoice, inasmuch as ye are partakers of the afflictions of the Christ, so that also in the revelation of his glory, ye may rejoice in triumph. ¹⁴ If ye are reproached for the name of Christ, blessed are ye; for the glory and the Spirit of God rests upon you; certainly on their part he is blasphemed, but on your part he is glorified. ¹⁵ So let none of you suffer as a murderer, or as a thief, or as an evildoer, or as desirous of the things of others. ¹⁶ But if anyone suffers as a Christian, let him not be ashamed, but let him glorify God on this behalf.

⁹ the Lord knows how to deliver the godly out of temptations and to reserve the unjust unto the day of judgment to be punished; ¹⁰ Fear none of those things which thou shalt suffer; behold, the devil shall cast some of you into prison, that ye may be tried; and ye shall have tribulation ten days; be thou faithful unto death, and I will give thee the crown of life.

⁷ to those who persevered in well doing, glory and honour and incorruption, to those who seek eternal life;

³ And not only this, but we even glory in the tribulations, knowing that the tribulation works patience; ⁴ and patience, experience; and experience, hope;

²⁵ But if we wait for that which we do not see, with patience we wait for it.

²⁸ And we now know that unto those who love God, all things help them unto good, to those who according to the purpose are called to be saints.

⁴ For the things that were written beforehand were written for our instruction that we, through patient endurance and through the comfort of the scriptures, might have hope.

¹⁷ For our tribulation, which is momentary and light, prepares an exceeding and eternal weight of glory unto us;

¹¹ strengthened with all might, according to the power of his glory unto all patience and longsuffering with joyfulness,

⁴ so that we ourselves glory in you in the congregations {Gr. ekklesia – called out ones} of God for your patience and faith in all your persecutions and tribulations that ye endure and

⁵ And the Lord make your hearts upright in the charity of God and in the hope of the Christ.

³⁶ for patience is necessary, so that after ye have done the will of God, ye might receive the promise.

¹ ¶ Therefore, seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, leaving behind all the weight of the sin which surrounds us, let us run with patience the race that is set before us,

⁷ that the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold (which perishes, nevertheless it is tried with fire), might be found unto praise and glory and honour when Jesus, the Christ, is made manifest;

⁶ and in knowledge, temperance; and in temperance, patience; and in patience, fear of God;

⁹ The righteous shall hold on to his way, and he that has clean hands shall be stronger and stronger.

⁷ ¶ Daleth Be silent before the LORD and wait patiently for him; do not be angry with him who prospers in his way, with the man who brings wicked devices to pass.

A Psalm of David. ¶ I waited patiently for the LORD, and he inclined unto me and heard my cry.

⁸ Grow in wisdom, and she shall promote thee; she shall bring thee to honour when thou hast embraced her.

³ For the vision is yet for an appointed time, but at the end it shall speak and not lie; though it tarry, wait for it because it will surely come; wait for it.

⁴⁸ Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father who is in the heavens is perfect.

²² And ye shall be hated of all men for my name, but he that endures to the end shall be saved.

²⁰ The young man said unto him, All these things I have kept from my youth up; what do I lack?

²¹ Then Jesus beholding him loved him and said unto him, One thing thou lackest: go, sell all that thou hast and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven; and come, take up the cross {Gr. stauros – stake}, and follow me taking up thy stake (if thy desire is to be perfect).

¹⁵ But that on the good ground are those who in an honest and good heart, having heard the word, keep it and bring forth fruit with patience.

²² Now when Jesus heard this, he said unto him, Yet lackest thou one thing: sell all that thou hast and distribute unto the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven; and come, follow me.

¹⁹ In your patience ye shall possess your souls.

²³ I in them, and thou in me, that they may be perfect in one and that the world may know that thou hast sent me and hast loved them as thou hast loved me.

⁶ ¶ For we speak perfect wisdom of God, and not the wisdom of this age nor of the princes of this age, that come to nought,

⁹ And let us not be weary in well doing, for in due season we shall reap if we faint not.

¹² Not as though I had already attained it, either were already perfect, but I follow after, if I may lay hold of that for which I have also been laid hold of by the Christ, Jesus. ¹³ Brethren, I do not reckon to have laid hold of it yet, but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and extending myself unto those things which are ahead, ¹⁴ I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus. ¹⁵ ¶ Let us, therefore, as many as are perfect, be thus minded; and if in anything ye are otherwise minded, God shall reveal even this unto you.

¹² Epaphras, who is one of you, a slave of Christ, salutes you, always labouring fervently for you in prayers, that ye may stand firm, perfect and fulfilled in all the will of God.

¹⁷ that the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works.

²¹ make you perfect in every good work to do his will, working in you that which is wellpleasing in his sight, through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory for the ages of the ages. Amen.

⁵ And if any of you lacks wisdom, let them ask of God (who gives abundantly to all, and without reproach), and it shall be given them.

² For we all offend in many things. If any man offends not in word, the same is a perfect man, and able also to govern the whole body with restraint.

⁷ Be patient, therefore, brethren, unto the coming of the Lord. Behold, the husbandman waits for the precious fruit of the earth, waiting patiently until it receives the early and latter rain. ⁸ Be ye also patient and confirm your hearts, for the coming of the Lord draws near. ⁹ Complain not one against another, brethren, that ye not be condemned: behold, the judge stands before the door. ¹⁰ Take, my brethren, the prophets, who have spoken in the name of the Lord, for an example of suffering affliction, and of patience. ¹¹ Behold, we count blessed those who endure. Ye have heard of the patience of Job and have seen the end of the Lord, that the Lord is very merciful, and full of compassion.

¹⁰ ¶ But the God of all grace, who has called us unto his eternal glory by Jesus, the Christ, after ye have suffered a little while, he himself perfects, confirms, strengthens, and establishes you.

⁹ But he that lacks these things is blind and walks feeling the way with his hand, having forgotten that he was purged from his old sins.

¹⁷ ¶ In this the charity with us is made perfect, that we may have confidence in the day of judgment, that as he is, so are we in this world. ¹⁸ In charity there is no fear; but charity that is perfect casts out fear; because fear has torment; from which he that fears is not complete in charity.

³ and I have filled him with the Spirit of God, in wisdom and in intelligence and in science and in all manner of workmanship,

⁶ And I, behold, I have given with him Aholiab, the son of Ahisamach, of the tribe of Dan; and in the desire of all that are wise hearted I have put wisdom that they may make all that I have commanded thee:

¹ ¶ Then wrought Bezaleel and Aholiab and every wise hearted man unto whom the LORD gave wisdom and intelligence to know how to do all the work of the service of the sanctuary, all the things that the LORD had commanded. ² And Moses called Bezaleel and Aholiab and every wise hearted man in whose heart the LORD had put wisdom and every one whose heart stirred him up to come unto the work to do it; ³ and they took from the presence of Moses all the offering which the sons of Israel had brought for the work of the service of the sanctuary, to make it with. And they brought yet unto him free will offerings every morning. ⁴ So much that all the wise men that wrought all the work of the sanctuary came every man from his work which they made,

⁷ And now, O LORD my God, thou hast made thy slave king instead of David my father; and I am but a tender young man; I do not know how to go out or come in. ⁸ And thy slave is in the midst of thy people whom thou hast chosen, a great people, that cannot be numbered nor counted for multitude. ⁹ Give, therefore, thy slave a hearing heart to judge thy people that I may discern between good and evil, for who is able to govern this thy so great a people? ¹⁰ And the speech pleased the Lord that Solomon had asked this thing. ¹¹ And God said unto him, Because thou hast asked this thing and hast not asked for thyself long life neither hast asked riches for thyself nor hast asked the life of thine enemies, but hast asked for thyself understanding to hear judgment, ¹² behold, I have done according to thy words: behold, I have given thee a wise and understanding heart so that there was none like thee before thee, neither after thee shall any arise like unto thee.

¹² Only the LORD give thee wisdom and understanding and give thee commandments for Israel, and that thou keep the law of the LORD thy God.

¹⁰ Give me now wisdom and knowledge that I may go out and come in before this people, for who can judge this thy people, that is so great?

¹² But where shall wisdom be found? And where is the place of understanding? ¹³ Man never knew its price; neither is it found in the land of the living. ¹⁴ ¶ The deep saith, It is not in me; and the sea saith, It is not with me. ¹⁵ It cannot be gotten for gold, neither shall silver be weighed for its price. ¹⁶ It cannot be valued with the gold of Ophir, with the precious onyx or the sapphire. ¹⁷ Gold cannot equal it, nor can diamond; neither shall it be exchanged for vessels of fine gold. ¹⁸ No mention shall be made of coral, or of pearls; for wisdom is better than precious stones. ¹⁹ The emerald of Ethiopia shall not equal it, neither shall it be valued with pure gold. ²⁰ ¶ Where then does wisdom come from? And where is the place of understanding? ²¹ Seeing it is hid from the eyes of all living and kept concealed from every fowl of the heaven. ²² Hell and death say, We have heard its fame with our ears. ²³ God understands its way, and he alone knows its place. ²⁴ For he looks unto the ends of the earth and sees under the whole heaven, ²⁵ To make a weight for the wind and to supply water by measure, ²⁶ when he made a law for the rain, and a way for the lightning of the thunders. ²⁷ Then he saw it and counted it; he prepared it and also searched it out. ²⁸ And unto man he said, Behold, that the fear of the Lord, is wisdom; and to depart from evil is understanding.

³ yea, if thou criest for understanding and givest thy voice unto intelligence, ⁴ if thou seekest her as silver and searchest for her as for hid treasures, ⁵ then shalt thou understand the fear of the LORD and find the knowledge of God. ⁶ For the LORD gives wisdom; out of his mouth comes knowledge and intelligence.

⁵ Trust in the LORD with all thine heart and lean not unto thine own understanding. ⁶ In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths. ⁷ ¶ Be not wise in thine own eyes; fear the LORD and depart from evil.

⁴ whosoever is simple, let him turn in here; as for those that lack understanding, {Heb. lacking of heart}, she saith unto him, ⁵ Come, eat of my bread, and drink of the wine which I have mingled. ⁶ Forsake that which is foolish and live and go in the way of understanding.

⁶ ¶ Seek the LORD while he may be found; call upon him while he is near: ⁷ Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts: and let him return unto the LORD, and he will have mercy upon him; and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon.

⁶ Then I said, Ah, Lord GOD! behold, I do not know how to speak: for I am a child. ⁷ But the LORD said unto me, Do not say, I am a child; for thou shalt go to all that I shall send thee, and whatsoever I command thee thou shalt speak.

¹² Then ye shall call upon me, and ye shall walk in my ways and pray unto me, and I will hearken unto you. ¹³ And ye shall seek me, and find me, for ye shall seek me with all your heart.

¹⁸ to petition mercies of the God of heaven concerning this mystery and that Daniel and his fellows should not perish with the rest of the wise men of Babylon. ¹⁹ Then the mystery was revealed unto Daniel in a night vision for which Daniel blessed the God of heaven. ²⁰ And Daniel spoke and said, Blessed be the name of God from age to age for wisdom and might are his; ²¹ and it is he that changes the times and the opportunities; he removes kings and sets up kings; he gives wisdom unto the wise and knowledge unto those that know understanding: ²² He reveals that which is deep and hidden; he knows what is in darkness, and the light dwells with him.

⁷ ¶ Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you; ⁸ for every one that asks receives, and he that seeks finds, and to him that knocks it shall be opened. ⁹ Or what man is there of you, whom, if his son asks for bread, will he give him a stone? ¹⁰ Or if he asks for fish, will he give him a serpent? ¹¹ If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Father who is in the heavens give good things to those that ask him?

²⁰ Then he began to upbraid the cities wherein most of his mighty works were done because they repented not:

¹⁴ ¶ Finally he appeared unto the eleven as they sat at the table and upbraided them for their unbelief and hardness of heart because they did not believe those who had seen him after he was risen.

⁹ And I say unto you, Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you. ¹⁰ For every one that asks receives; and he that seeks finds; and to him that knocks it shall be opened. ¹¹ If a son shall ask bread of any of you that is a father, will he give him a stone? or if he ask a fish, will he for a fish give him a serpent? ¹² Or if he shall ask an egg, will he offer him a scorpion? ¹³ If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those that ask him?

²⁰ And he arose and came to his father. But when he was yet a great way off, his father saw him and was moved with compassion and ran and fell on his neck and kissed him. ²¹ And the son said unto him, Father, I have sinned against heaven and in thy sight and am no longer worthy to be called thy son. ²² But the father said to his slaves, Bring forth the best robe and put it on him and put a ring on his hand and shoes on his feet

¹⁰ Jesus answered and said unto her, If thou knewest the gift of God and who it is that saith to thee, Give me to drink, thou wouldest have asked of him, and he would have given thee living water.

¹³ And whatsoever ye shall ask the Father in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.

⁷ If ye abide in me and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you.

²³ ¶ And in that day ye shall ask me nothing. Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whatever ye shall ask the Father in my name, he will give you. ²⁴ Until now ye have asked nothing in my name; ask, and ye shall receive, that your joy may be fulfilled.

¹⁶ to the one we are the savour of death unto death and to the other the savour of life unto life. And who is sufficient for these things?

¹⁷ Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness neither shadow of turning.

¹⁷ But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, modest, benevolent, full of mercy and of good fruits, not judgmental, unfeigned.

¹⁶ Confess your faults one to another and pray one for another that ye may be whole. The effectual prayer of the righteous is very powerful.

²² and whatsoever we ask, we receive of him because we keep his commandments and do those things that are pleasing in his sight.

¹⁴ ¶ And this is the confidence that we have in God, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he hears us: ¹⁵ And if we know that he hears us in whatever we ask, we also know that we have the petitions that we asked of him.

⁴ Unstable as water, thou shalt not be principal because thou didst go up to thy father’s bed; then thou became defiled, going up to my couch.

²¹ Jesus answered and said unto them, Verily I say unto you, If ye have faith and doubt not, ye shall not only do this to the fig tree, but also if ye shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea, it shall be done. ²² And all things, whatever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye shall receive.

²² And Jesus, answering, said unto them, Have faith in God. ²³ For verily I say unto you that whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Remove thyself and cast thyself into the sea, and shall not doubt in his heart but shall believe that what he says shall be done whatsoever he says shall be done unto him. ²⁴ Therefore I say unto you that everything that ye ask for, praying, believe that ye receive it, and it shall come upon you.

¹⁴ That we no longer be children, tossed to and fro and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men and cunning craftiness, by which they lie in wait to deceive,

⁸ I desire, therefore, that the men in every place, pray, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and strife.

²³ let us hold fast the profession of our hope without wavering (for he is faithful that promised).

⁶ But without faith it is impossible to please God; for he that comes to God must believe that he is and that he is a rewarder of those that diligently seek him.

⁹ Be not taken out of the way with diverse and strange doctrines. For it is a good thing that the heart be established with grace, not with foods which have not profited those that have been occupied with them.

¹⁷ These are wells without water, clouds that are brought by a whirlwind, to whom gross darkness is reserved for ever.

¹² These are spots in your banquets of charity, feeding themselves without any fear whatsoever: clouds without water, carried to and fro of the winds; trees withered as in fall, without fruit, twice dead, plucked up by the roots; ¹³ raging waves of the sea, foaming out their own abominations; erratic stars, to whom is reserved gross darkness eternally.

⁸ ¶ The sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination to the LORD, but the prayer of the upright is his delight.

²⁷ ¶ The sacrifice of the wicked is abomination; how much more, when he brings it with lewdness?

¹⁵ And when ye spread forth your hands, I will hide my eyes from you; likewise, when ye make many prayers, I will not hear; your hands are full of blood.

³ ¶ Why have we fasted, they say, and thou dost not see? why have we afflicted our soul, and thou dost take no knowledge? Behold, in the day of your fast ye find your own pleasure and exact your own estates. ⁴ Behold, ye fast for strife and debate, and to smite with the fist of wickedness: ye shall not fast as ye do this day to make your voice to be heard on high.

³ Ye ask and receive not because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your pleasures.

²¹ ¶ And Elijah came near unto all the people and said, How long shall ye halt between two opinions? If the LORD is God, follow him; but if Baal, then follow him. And the people did not answer him a word.

³³ They feared the LORD and served their own gods after the manner of the gentiles whom they carried away from there.

⁴¹ So these Gentiles feared the LORD and served their graven images, and likewise their sons and their grandsons; as did their fathers, so do they unto this day.

¹³ Therefore the Lord said, Forasmuch as this people sacrifice unto me and honour me with their lips, but have removed their heart far from me, and their worship with which they honour me was taught by the commandment of men:

⁸ ¶ Ephraim, he has mixed himself among the peoples; Ephraim is a cake not turned. ⁹ Strangers have devoured his strength, and he does not know it; yea, gray hairs are here and there upon him, yet he does not understand. ¹⁰ And the pride of Israel shall testify to his face, and they have not returned to the LORD their God, nor have they sought him with all this. ¹¹ Ephraim also was like a deceived dove, without understanding; they shall call to Egypt, they shall go to Assyria.

² Their heart has wandered; now they shall be found guilty: he shall break down their altars, he shall destroy their statues.

²² The lamp of the body is the eye: if therefore thine eye is sincere, thy whole body shall be full of light.

²⁴ No one can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other or else he will hold to the one and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and riches.

⁸ Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded.

¹⁴ having their eyes full of adultery, and not knowing how to cease from sin, baiting unstable souls, having their heart exercised in covetous practices; cursed sons,

¹⁶ in almost all his epistles, speaking in them of these things, among which are some things that are hard to understand, which those that are ignorant and unstable twist, as they do also the other scriptures, unto their own destruction.

⁷ If there should be among you a poor man of one of thy brethren within any of thy towns in thy land which the LORD thy God gives thee, thou shalt not harden thine heart nor shut thine hand from thy poor brother,

⁹ Keep thyself that there not be a thought of Belial in thy heart, saying, The seventh year, the year of release, is at hand; and thine eye be evil against thy poor brother to give him nothing; for he shall cry unto the LORD against thee, and it shall be a sin unto thee.

¹¹ For the poor shall never cease out of the land; therefore, I command thee, saying, Thou shalt open thine hand wide unto thy brother, to thy poor and to thy needy, in thy land.

⁸ He raises up the poor out of the dust and lifts up the beggar from the dunghill to set them among princes and to make them inherit the throne of glory. For the pillars of the earth are the LORD’s, and he has set the world upon them.

⁹ Surely the sons of Adam are vanity, and the sons of nobles are a lie; to be laid in the balance, they are altogether lighter than vanity.

⁷ He raises up the poor out of the dust and lifts the destitute out of the dunghill; ⁸ that he may set him with princes, even with the princes of his people.

⁵ ¶ Whosoever mocks the poor reproaches his Maker, and he that is glad regarding the calamity of someone else shall not go unpunished.

¹ ¶ Better is the poor that walks in his integrity than he that is perverse in his lips and is a fool.

²³ ¶ Thus hath the LORD said, Let not the wise man glory in his wisdom, neither let the mighty man glory in his might, let not the rich man glory in his riches; ²⁴ but let him that glories glory in this, that he understands me and knows me, that I am the LORD who does mercy, judgment, and righteousness in the earth: for in these things I delight, said the LORD.

⁵² He has put down the mighty from their thrones and exalted the humble.

⁴⁸ and said unto them, Whosoever shall receive this child in my name receives me, and whosoever shall receive me receives him that sent me; for he that is least among you all, the same shall be great.

²⁰ Notwithstanding, rejoice not in this, that the spirits are subject unto you, but rather rejoice because your names are written in the heavens.

² by whom we also have access by faith into this grace in which we stand and glory in hope of the glory of the sons of God. ³ And not only this, but we even glory in the tribulations, knowing that the tribulation works patience;

¹⁷ ¶ and if sons, also heirs certainly of God and joint-heirs with Christ, if so be that we suffer with him that we may be also glorified together with him.

¹⁰ as sorrowful, yet always rejoicing; as poor, yet making many rich; as having nothing, and yet possessing all things.

³ For we are the circumcision, who serve God in spirit and glory in Christ Jesus, having no confidence in the flesh.

¹⁴ I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.

⁵ Hearken, my beloved brethren, Has not God chosen the poor of this world that they might be rich in faith and heirs of the kingdom which he has promised to those that love him? ⁶ But ye have despised the poor. Do not the rich oppress you with tyranny and draw you with violence to the courts?

⁹ But ye are the chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, an acquired people, that ye should show forth the virtues of him who has called you out of darkness into his marvellous light.

¹ ¶ Behold, what charity the Father has given us, that we should be called the sons of God; therefore the world does not know us, because it does not know him. ² Beloved, now we are the sons of God, and it is not yet made manifest what we shall be; but we know that if he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is. ³ And every one that has this hope in him purifies himself, even as he is pure.

⁹ I know thy works and tribulation and poverty, (but thou art rich), and I know the blasphemy of those who say they are Jews and are not, but are the synagogue of Satan.

⁹ And they sang a new song, saying, Thou art worthy to take the book and to open its seals, for thou wast slain and hast redeemed us unto God by thy blood, out of every kindred and tongue and people and nation ¹⁰ and hast made us unto our God kings and priests, and we shall reign on the earth.

⁹ After this I saw, and, behold, a great multitude, which no man could number, of all nations and kindreds and peoples and tongues stood before the throne and before the Lamb clothed with long white robes and palms in their hands ¹⁰ and cried with a loud voice, saying, Salvation unto him who is seated upon the throne of our God and unto the Lamb.

² He comes forth like an open flower and is cut down; he flees as a shadow and does not remain.

² For they shall soon be cut down like the grass and wither as the green herb.

³⁵ Resh I have seen the wicked in great power and spreading himself like a green bay tree. ³⁶ Yet he passed away, and, behold, he was not: I sought him, but he could not be found.

⁵ Thou dost cause them to pass by as the waters of a river; they are as a dream, which is strong in the morning like grass. ⁶ In the morning it blossoms and grows up; in the evening it is cut down and withers.

¹¹ My days are like a shadow that declines, and I am withered like grass.

¹⁵ As for man, his days are as grass; as an open flower of the field, so he blossoms.

⁶ The voice that said, Cry. And I said, What shall I cry? All flesh is grass, and all the mercy thereof is as the open flower of the field:

¹⁵ For thus has said the high and lofty One that inhabits eternity, whose name is The Holy One; I dwell in the high place and in holiness and with him also that is of a contrite and humble spirit to cause the spirit of the humble to live and to cause the heart of the contrite ones to live.

² For all these things my hand has made, by my hand has these things been, said the LORD; but to this man will I look, even to him that is poor and of a contrite spirit and trembles at my word.

³ ¶ Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of the heavens.

³⁰ Therefore, if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is and tomorrow is cast into the oven, shall he not much more clothe you, O ye of little faith?

³¹ and those that use this world, as not using it as their own, for the fashion of this world passes away.

⁸ And doubtless I even count all things as loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord, for whom I have suffered the loss of all things and do count them but dung, that I may win Christ

¹⁷ Charge those that are rich in this world, that they not be highminded, not placing their hope in uncertain riches, but in the living God, who gives us richly all things to enjoy;

¹⁴ and ye do not know what shall be tomorrow. For what is your life? Certainly it is a vapour that appears for a little time and then vanishes away.

²⁴ ¶ For all flesh is as grass, and all the glory of man as the flower of grass. The grass withers, and its flower falls away,

¹⁷ And the world passes away and the lust thereof, but he that does the will of God abides for ever.

²⁴ His breasts are full of milk, and his bones are moistened with marrow. ²⁵ And another dies in the bitterness of his soul, never having eaten with pleasure. ²⁶ They shall lie down alike in the dust, and the worms shall cover them. ²⁷ ¶ Behold, I know your thoughts and the imaginations which ye devise against me. ²⁸ For ye say, What is of the house of the prince, and what of the tent of the habitation of the wicked? ²⁹ Have ye not asked those that go by the way, and do ye not know their tokens? ³⁰ That the wicked is reserved for the day of destruction, they shall be brought forth to the day of wrath.

⁶ ¶ Those that trust in their wealth and boast themselves in the multitude of their riches; ⁷ none of them can by any means ransom his brother, nor give God an atonement for him; ⁸ (for the redemption of their soul is of great price, and they shall never pay it) ⁹ that he should still live for ever and not see corruption. ¹⁰ For he sees that all the wise men die, likewise the fool and the ignorant perish and leave their wealth to others. ¹¹ Their inward thought is that their houses are eternal and their dwelling places to all generations; they call their lands after their own names. ¹² Nevertheless man will not abide forever in honour; he is like the beasts that are cut off. ¹³ This their way is their folly; yet their posterity approve their sayings. Selah. ¹⁴ Like sheep they are laid in Sheol; death shall feed on them, and the upright shall have dominion over them in the morning, and their beauty shall be consumed in the grave from their dwelling.

¹⁸ Surely thou didst set them in slippery places; in desolation thou shalt cause them to fall. ¹⁹ How they are brought into desolation, as in a moment! They have come to an end; they are utterly consumed with terrors. ²⁰ As the dream of one who awakes; so, O Lord, when thou shalt rise up, thou shalt despise their appearances.

⁴ My heart is smitten and withered like grass so that I forget to eat my bread.

¹⁵ As he came forth of his mother’s womb, naked shall he return to go as he came and shall take nothing of his labour, which he may carry away in his hand.

¹ ¶ Woe to the crown of pride, to the drunkards of Ephraim and to the open flower of the beauty of their glory which is upon the head of the fertile valley of those that are overcome with wine!

⁴ And the fading flower of the beauty of their glory, which is upon the head of the fertile valley, shall be as the early fig, which comes first before the other fruits of the summer; which when he that looks upon it sees it; as soon as he has it in his hand, he eats it up.

⁷ The grass withers, the flower fades because the spirit of the LORD blows upon it; surely the people is grass. ⁸ The grass withers, the open flower fades; but the word of our God shall stand for ever.

¹⁰ They shall never hunger nor thirst; neither shall the heat nor sun smite them: for he that has mercy on them shall lead them, even by the springs of water he shall feed them.

⁷ But God also prepared a worm when the morning rose the next day, and it smote the gourd so that it withered. ⁸ And it came to pass, when the sun arose, that God prepared a vehement east wind; and the sun beat upon the head of Jonah that he fainted and wished in his soul to die and said, It is better for me to die than to live.

⁶ and when the sun was up, they were scorched; and because they had no root, they withered away.

¹⁹ ¶ There was a certain rich man who was clothed in purple and fine linen and fared sumptuously every day; ²⁰ and there was a certain beggar named Lazarus, who was laid at his gate, full of sores ²¹ and desiring to be fed with the crumbs which fell from the rich man’s table: moreover the dogs came and licked his sores. ²² And it came to pass that the beggar died and was carried by the angels into Abraham’s bosom; the rich man also died and was buried; ²³ and in Hades he lifted up his eyes, being in torments, and saw Abraham afar off and Lazarus in his bosom. ²⁴ And he cried and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me and send Lazarus that he may dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame. ²⁵ But Abraham said, Son, remember that thou in thy lifetime didst receive thy good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things; but now he is comforted here, and thou art tormented.

¹ ¶ Come now, Oh ye rich, weep and howl for your miseries that shall come upon you. ² Your riches are rotten, and your garments are motheaten. ³ Your gold and silver is corrupted with rust; and the rust of them shall be a witness against you and shall completely eat your flesh, as fire. Ye have heaped treasure together for the last days. ⁴ Behold, the hire of the labourers who have reaped your fields (which you have kept back by fraud) cries out; and the cries of those who have reaped have entered into the ears of the Lord of the hosts. ⁵ Ye have lived in pleasure on the earth and been wanton; ye have refreshed your hearts, as in the day of slaughter of sacrifices. ⁶ Ye have condemned and murdered the just, and he does not resist you. ⁷ Be patient, therefore, brethren, unto the coming of the Lord. Behold, the husbandman waits for the precious fruit of the earth, waiting patiently until it receives the early and latter rain.

⁴ unto the incorruptible inheritance that cannot be defiled and that does not fade away, conserved in the heavens for you,

⁴ And when the great Prince of the pastors shall appear, ye shall receive the incorruptible crown of glory.

⁶ and showing mercy unto thousands of generations of those that love me and keep my commandments.

⁹ Know, therefore, that the LORD thy God, he is God, the faithful God, who keeps covenant and mercy with those that love him and keep his commandments to a thousand generations

² And thou shalt remember all the way by which the LORD thy God led thee these forty years in the wilderness to afflict thee and to prove thee to know what was in thine heart, whether thou would keep his commandments, or not.

³ thou shalt not hearken unto the words of that prophet or that dreamer of dreams; for the LORD your God proves you, to know whether ye love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul.

⁵ ¶ and said, I beseech thee, O LORD God of the heavens, strong, great and terrible, who keeps covenant and mercy for those that love thee and observe thy commandments;

¹⁷ ¶ Behold, blessed is the man whom God chastens; therefore, do not despise not the correction of the Almighty.

¹¹ And all those that put their trust in thee shall rejoice: they shall ever be in jubilee, for thou shalt cover them; and all that love thy name shall be joyful in thee.

¹² ¶ Blessed is the man whom thou dost chasten, O JAH, and teach him out of thy law,

⁶⁷ ¶ Before I was humbled, I went into error, but now I keep thy spoken word.

⁷¹ ¶ It was good for me that I have been humbled, that I might learn thy statutes.

⁷⁵ ¶ I know, O LORD, that thy judgments are right and that thou in faithfulness hast afflicted me.

¹¹ My son, do not despise the chastening of the LORD; neither be weary of his correction: ¹² For the LORD chastens whom he loves and delights in, even as a father to his son.

³ ¶ The fining pot is for silver, and the furnace for gold, but the LORD tries the hearts.

⁴ Nor have men heard, nor perceived by the ear, neither has the eye seen a God beside thee, that thou might do it again for the one who waits in him.

⁹ And I will put the third part into the fire and will refine them as silver is refined and will try them as gold is tried; He shall call on my name, and I will hear him; I will say, My people, and he shall say, The LORD is my God.

² But who may abide the time of his coming? and who shall stand when he appears? for he shall be like a refiner’s fire and like fullers’ soap: ³ And he shall sit to refine and to purify the silver: for he shall purify the sons of Levi and purge them as gold and silver that they may offer unto the LORD an offering in righteousness.

²⁸ And Jesus said unto them, Verily I say unto you, That ye who have followed me, in the regeneration when the Son of man shall sit in the throne of his glory, ye also shall sit upon twelve thrones, to judge the twelve tribes of Israel. ²⁹ And every one that has forsaken houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or wife or children or lands for my name’s sake shall receive a hundredfold and shall inherit eternal life.

³⁴ Then shall the King say unto those on his right hand, Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world;

²⁸ But ye are those who have continued with me in my temptations. ²⁹ And I appoint unto you a kingdom as my Father has appointed unto me; ³⁰ that ye may eat and drink at my table in my kingdom and sit on thrones judging the twelve tribes of Israel.

⁷ to those who persevered in well doing, glory and honour and incorruption, to those who seek eternal life; ⁸ but unto those that are contentious and do not obey the truth, but are persuaded by unrighteousness, indignation and wrath. ⁹ Tribulation and anguish shall be upon every human soul that does evil, the Jew first and also the Greek; ¹⁰ but glory, honour, and peace to everyone that works good, to the Jew first and also to the Greek.

⁹ But as it is written, That which eye has not seen nor ear heard neither has entered into the heart of man is that which God has prepared for those that love him.

³ But if anyone loves God, the same is known of him.

²⁵ And every man that strives for the mastery is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a corruptible crown, but we, an incorruptible one.

⁸ from now on there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day, and not to me only, but unto all those also that have loved his appearing.

¹⁵ And so, after he had patiently endured, he obtained the promise.

³² But bring to memory the former days, in which, after ye received the light, ye endured a great fight of afflictions;

¹⁷ By faith Abraham, when he was tried, offered up Isaac, and he that had received the promises offered up his only begotten son,

⁵ And ye have quite forgotten the consolation which speaks unto you as unto sons, My son, despise not thou the chastening of the Lord, nor faint when thou art reproved of him:

² ¶ My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into diverse trials, ³ knowing that the proving of your faith works patience, ⁴ and the patience finishes the work, that ye may be perfect and entire, not lacking in anything.

⁵ Hearken, my beloved brethren, Has not God chosen the poor of this world that they might be rich in faith and heirs of the kingdom which he has promised to those that love him?

¹¹ Behold, we count blessed those who endure. Ye have heard of the patience of Job and have seen the end of the Lord, that the Lord is very merciful, and full of compassion.

¹⁴ But also if ye suffer anything for righteousness’ sake, blessed are ye; therefore, be not afraid of their terror neither be troubled,

¹³ but rejoice, inasmuch as ye are partakers of the afflictions of the Christ, so that also in the revelation of his glory, ye may rejoice in triumph.

¹⁹ We love him, because he first loved us.

¹⁹ As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten; be zealous therefore, and repent.

²¹ To him that overcomes will I grant to sit with me in my throne, even as I also overcame and have sat down with my Father in his throne.

¹² And the man said, The woman whom thou gavest to be with me, she gave me of the tree, and I ate.

¹⁷ O LORD, why hast thou made us to err from thy ways? Hast thou hardened our heart to thy fear? Return for thy slaves, for the tribes of thine inheritance.

¹² Woe to him that builds the city with blood and founds the village with iniquity! ¹³ Is this not of the LORD of the hosts? Therefore the peoples shall labour for the fire, and the Gentiles shall weary themselves in vain.

¹⁹ Thou wilt say then unto me, Why does he become angry? For who shall resist his will? ²⁰ Rather, O man, who art thou to reply against God? Shall the thing formed say to him that formed it, Why hast thou made me thus?

² ¶ My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into diverse trials,

⁵ And GOD saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.

²¹ And the LORD smelled a savour of rest, and the LORD said in his heart, I will not again curse the ground any more for man’s sake, for the intent of man’s heart is evil from his childhood; neither will I again smite any more every living thing as I have done.

²¹ When I saw among the spoils a goodly Babylonish garment and two hundred shekels of silver and a wedge of gold of fifty shekels weight, then I coveted them and took them; and, behold, they are hid in the earth in the midst of my tent, and the silver under it. ²² So Joshua sent messengers, and they ran unto the tent; and, behold, it was hid in his tent and the silver under it. ²³ And they took them out of the midst of the tent and brought them unto Joshua and unto all the sons of Israel and laid them out before the LORD. ²⁴ Then Joshua and all Israel with him took Achan, the son of Zerah, and the silver and the garment and the wedge of gold and his sons and his daughters and his oxen and his asses and his sheep and his tent and all that he had, and they brought them unto the valley of Achor.

² And it came to pass one evening, that David arose from off his bed and walked upon the roof of the king’s house, and from the roof he saw a woman washing herself, and the woman was very beautiful to look upon. ³ And David sent and enquired after the woman. And one said, Is not this Bathsheba, the daughter of Eliam, the wife of Uriah, the Hittite?

² And Ahab spoke unto Naboth, saying, Give me thy vineyard that I may have it for a garden of herbs because it is next to my house, and I will give thee for it a better vineyard than it; or if it seems good unto thee, I will give thee the worth of it in money. ³ And Naboth replied unto Ahab, The LORD keep me from giving thee the inheritance of my fathers. ⁴ And Ahab came into his house, sad and angry, because of the word which Naboth of Jezreel had spoken to him, for he had said, I will not give thee the inheritance of my fathers. And he lay down upon his bed and turned away his face and would eat no bread.

⁹ ¶ If my heart has been deceived regarding a woman, or if I have laid in wait at my neighbour’s door,

²⁷ and my heart has been secretly enticed, and my mouth kissed my hand;

²³ Above all else, guard thy heart; for out of it flows the issues of life.

²⁰ The ashes feed him; his deceived heart inclines him, that he not deliver his soul and say, Is not the lie at my right hand?

⁹ ¶ O Israel, thou hast caused thyself to become lost, but in me is thine help.

²⁸ but I say unto you, That whosoever looks on a woman to lust after her has committed adultery with her already in his heart.

¹⁸ But those things which proceed out of the mouth come forth from the heart, and they defile the man.

²⁰ these are the things which defile the man, but to eat with unwashed hands does not defile the man.

²¹ For from within, out of the heart of men, come forth the evil thoughts, the adulteries, the fornications, the murders, ²² the thefts, the covetousness, the wickedness, the deceit, the lasciviousness, the evil eye, the slander, the pride, the unwiseness:

¹¹ For sin, having had occasion, deceived me by the commandment and by it killed me.

¹³ Was then that which is good made death unto me? No, in no wise. But sin, to show itself sin by that which is good, worked death in me, making sin exceedingly sinful by the commandment.

²² that ye put off everything concerning the old way of life, that is, the old man who corrupts himself according to deceitful desires,

¹³ But exhort one another daily, while it is called Today, lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin.

¹ ¶ Where do the wars and disputes come from among you? From here that is to say, of your lusts which fight in your members? ² Ye covet and have not; ye murder, and have envy and cannot obtain; ye fight and war and have not that which ye desire because ye ask not.

¹⁷ but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it; for in the day that thou dost eat of it thou shalt surely die.

⁶ ¶ And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was desirable to the eyes, and a tree of covetousness to understand, she took of its fruit and ate and gave also unto her husband with her; and he ate.

¹⁷ ¶ And unto Adam he said, Because thou hast hearkened unto the voice of thy wife and hast eaten of the tree of which I commanded thee, saying, Thou shalt not eat of it, cursed shall be the ground for thy sake; in sorrow shalt thou eat of it all the days of thy life; ¹⁸ thorns also and thistles shall it bring forth to thee; and thou shalt eat the grass of the field; ¹⁹ in the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread until thou return unto the ground; for out of it wast thou taken, for dust thou art, and unto dust shalt thou return.

⁵ but he did not look upon Cain and his present. And Cain was very wroth, and his countenance fell. ⁶ ¶ Then the LORD said unto Cain, Why art thou wroth? and why is thy countenance fallen? ⁷ If thou doest good, it shall certainly be accepted; and if thou doest not good, sin lies at the door. And his desire shall be unto thee, but thou must rule over him. ⁸ ¶ And Cain talked with Abel his brother, and it came to pass when they were in the field, that Cain rose up against Abel his brother and slew him.

³⁵ They conceive pain and bring forth iniquity, and their belly meditates deceit.

¹⁴ Behold, he travails with iniquity and has conceived of his own work and brought forth falsehood.

¹⁷ The wicked shall be put into Sheol, all the Gentiles that forget God.

⁴ No one calls for righteousness, nor do any judge by the truth; they trust in vanity, and speak vanities; they conceive trouble and bring forth iniquity.

¹ ¶ Woe unto those that devise iniquity and fabricate evil upon their beds! when the morning is light, they put it into effect because they have power in their hands. ² And they coveted fields and stole them, and houses and took them away; so they oppressed the man and his house, even the man and his heritage. ³ Therefore thus hath the LORD said; Behold, I devise an evil against this family, from which ye shall not remove your necks; neither shall ye walk haughtily; for the time shall be evil.

¹⁴ ¶ Then one of the twelve, called Judas Iscariot, went unto the princes of the priests

⁴⁸ Now he that betrayed him had given them a sign, saying, Whomsoever I shall kiss, that same is he; hold him fast. ⁴⁹ And forthwith he came to Jesus and said, Receive joy, master; and kissed him. ⁵⁰ And Jesus said unto him, Friend, why art thou come? Then they came and laid hands on Jesus and took him. ⁵¹ And, behold, one of those who was with Jesus stretched out his hand and drew his sword and struck a slave of the high priest and smote off his ear. ⁵² Then Jesus said unto him, Put up again thy sword into its place, for all those that take the sword shall perish by the sword. ⁵³ Thinkest thou that I cannot now pray to my Father, and he shall presently give me more than twelve legions of angels? ⁵⁴ But how then shall the scriptures be fulfilled that thus it must be? ⁵⁵ In that same hour Jesus said to the multitude, Are ye come out as against a thief with swords and staves to take me? I sat daily with you teaching in the temple, and ye laid no hold on me. ⁵⁶ But all this was done that the scriptures of the prophets might be fulfilled. Then all the disciples forsook him and fled. ⁵⁷ ¶ And those that had laid hold on Jesus led him away to Caiaphas the high priest, where the scribes and the elders were assembled. ⁵⁸ But Peter followed him afar off unto the patio of the high priest and went in and sat with the servants to see the end. ⁵⁹ Now the princes of the priests and the elders and all the council sought false witness against Jesus, to put him to death;

¹ ¶ But a certain man named Ananias, with Sapphira his wife, sold a possession ² and defrauded of the price, his wife also being aware of it, and brought a certain part and laid it at the apostles’ feet. ³ But Peter said, Ananias, why has Satan filled thy heart to lie to the Holy Spirit and to defraud of the price of the land?

¹² Therefore, in the manner which sin entered into the world by one man, and because of sin, death; and so death passed upon all men in the one in whom all sinned. ¹³ For until the law, sin was in the world; but the sin was not imputed, there being no law. ¹⁴ Nevertheless death reigned from Adam to Moses, even in those that did not sin after the manner of the rebellion of Adam, who is a figure of him that was to come. ¹⁵ But not as the offense, so also is the gift. For if through the offense of that one many died, much more the grace of God and the gift by the grace of one man, Jesus the Christ, has abounded unto many. ¹⁶ Nor was it in the same manner as by one sin, likewise also the gift; for the judgment truly came of one sin unto condemnation, but grace came of many offenses unto justification. ¹⁷ For if by one offense, death reigned because of one man; much more those who receive the abundance of grace and of gifts and of righteousness shall reign in life by one, Jesus the Christ. ¹⁸ Therefore, in the same manner that by the iniquity of one guilt came upon all men unto condemnation, even so by the righteousness of one, grace came upon all men unto justification of life. ¹⁹ For as by one man’s disobedience, many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous. ²⁰ Moreover the law entered that the offence might abound. But where sin abounded, grace did much more abound, ²¹ so that in the same manner as sin has reigned unto death, even so might grace reign through righteousness unto eternal life by Jesus, the Christ, our Lord.

²¹ What fruit had ye then in those things of which ye are now ashamed? for the end of those things is death. ²² But now freed from sin and made slaves to God, ye have as your fruit sanctification and as the end, everlasting life. ²³ For the wages of sin is death, but the grace of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

¹⁴ And Hades and death were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. ¹⁵ And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.

²⁹ Then Jesus answered and said unto them, Ye do err, not knowing the scriptures nor the power of God.

²⁴ Then Jesus, answering, said unto them, Do ye not therefore err because ye know not the scriptures, neither the power of God?

²⁷ He is not God of the dead, but God of the living; ye therefore do greatly err.

⁹ ¶ Know ye not that the unjust shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not err: neither fornicators nor idolaters nor adulterers nor effeminate nor homosexuals

⁷ Do not deceive yourselves; God is not mocked: for whatever a man sows that shall he also reap.

¹² ¶ Therefore, my beloved, as ye have always hearkened, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own saving health with fear and trembling.

¹ ¶ Therefore, my brethren dearly beloved and longed for, my joy and crown, so stand fast in the Lord, my dearly beloved.

⁴ ¶ And this I say lest anyone should beguile you with enticing words.

⁸ Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the traditions of men, according to the elements of the world, and not after Christ.

¹⁸ who have erred from the truth, saying that the resurrection is already past and have overthrown the faith of some.

¹ ¶ Let brotherly love continue.

¹⁹ ¶ Therefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be quick to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath;

² And the earth was without order, and empty; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters. ³ ¶ And God said, Let there be light, and there was light. ⁴ And God saw that the light was good, and God divided the light from the darkness. ⁵ And God called the light Day and the darkness he called Night. And the evening and the morning were the first day.

¹⁴ ¶ And God said, Let there be lights in the firmament of the heavens to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs and for appointed times and for days and years; ¹⁵ and let them be for lights in the firmament of the heavens to give light upon the earth; and it was so.

¹⁶ And Joseph answered Pharaoh, saying, It is not in me; God shall give Pharaoh an answer of peace.

³⁸ And Pharaoh said unto his slaves, Can we find such a one as this is, a man in whom the Spirit of God is? ³⁹ And Pharaoh said unto Joseph, Forasmuch as God has showed thee all this, there is none so discreet and wise as thou art.

¹¹ And the LORD said unto him, Who has made man’s mouth? Or who makes the dumb or the deaf or the seeing or the blind? Am not I the LORD? ¹² Now therefore go and I will be with thy mouth and teach thee what thou shalt say.

³ and I have filled him with the Spirit of God, in wisdom and in intelligence and in science and in all manner of workmanship, ⁴ to devise cunning works, to work in gold and in silver and in brass, ⁵ and in cutting of stones, to set them, and in carving of timber, to work in all manner of workmanship. ⁶ And I, behold, I have given with him Aholiab, the son of Ahisamach, of the tribe of Dan; and in the desire of all that are wise hearted I have put wisdom that they may make all that I have commanded thee:

¹ ¶ Then wrought Bezaleel and Aholiab and every wise hearted man unto whom the LORD gave wisdom and intelligence to know how to do all the work of the service of the sanctuary, all the things that the LORD had commanded. ² And Moses called Bezaleel and Aholiab and every wise hearted man in whose heart the LORD had put wisdom and every one whose heart stirred him up to come unto the work to do it;

¹⁷ And I will come down and talk with thee there, and I will take of the spirit which is in thee and will put it upon them, and they shall bear the burden of the people with thee, that thou bear it not thyself alone.

²⁵ Then the LORD came down in the cloud and spoke unto him and took of the spirit that was in him and gave it unto the seventy elders, and it came to pass that when the spirit rested upon them, they prophesied and did not cease.

¹⁹ God is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent; he said and shall he not do it? He spoke and shall he not execute it?

¹⁹ And lest thou lift up thine eyes unto heaven, and when thou seest the sun and the moon and the stars, even all the host of heaven, and should be driven to worship them and serve them because the LORD thy God has conceded them unto all the peoples under all the heavens.

²⁹ And also the Overcomer of Israel will not lie nor repent concerning this, for he is not a man, that he should repent.

¹⁹ Likewise, give unto Solomon, my son, a perfect heart, to keep thy commandments, thy testimonies, and thy statutes, and to do all these things, and to build the palace, for which I have made provision.

¹¹ And God said to Solomon, Because this was in thy heart, and thou hast not asked riches, wealth or glory, nor the life of thy enemies, neither yet hast asked long life, but hast asked wisdom and knowledge for thyself, that thou may judge my people, over whom I have placed thee as king, ¹² wisdom and knowledge is granted unto thee; and I will also give thee riches and wealth and glory such as none of the kings have had that have been before thee, neither shall any after thee have the like.

¹ To the Overcomer,
A Psalm of David. ¶ The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament shows the work of his hands. ² One day provides a word for the next day, and one night declares wisdom unto the next night. ³ There is no speech nor language, where their voice is not heard. ⁴ Their line is gone out through all the earth, and their words to the end of the world. In them he has set a tabernacle for the sun, ⁵ which is as a bridegroom coming out of his chamber and rejoices as a strong man to run a race. ⁶ His going forth is from the end of the heavens, and his circuit unto the ends of it: and there is nothing hid from the heat thereof. ⁷ ¶ The law of the LORD is perfect, converting the soul; the testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple. ⁸ The statutes of the LORD are right, rejoicing the heart; the commandment of the LORD is pure, enlightening the eyes.

¹¹ For the LORD God is a sun and shield unto us; the LORD will give grace and glory; he will not withhold good from those that walk uprightly.

⁶ ¶ Pray for the peace of Jerusalem; those that love thee shall be brought into rest.

⁶ For the LORD gives wisdom; out of his mouth comes knowledge and intelligence.

²⁶ For his God teaches him to know how to judge and instructs him.

⁷ I form the light and create darkness; I make peace and create evil: I am the LORD that does all this.

¹⁰ declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times the things that are not yet done, saying, My counsel shall stand, and I will do all my pleasure:

¹⁹ The sun shall no longer be thy light by day; nor shall the moon give light unto thee for brightness; but the LORD shall be unto thee an everlasting light and thy God thy glory.

²⁷ Daniel answered in the presence of the king and said, The mystery which the king demands cannot be shown unto the king by wise men, astrologers, magicians, nor fortune-tellers. ²⁸ But there is a God in the heavens who reveals the mysteries, and he has made known to the king Nebuchadnezzar what shall happen at the end of days. Thy dream, and the visions of thy head upon thy bed, is this: ²⁹ Thou, O king, in thy bed, thy thoughts rose up to know what should come to pass in the future; and he that reveals the mysteries showed thee what shall come to pass. ³⁰ And unto me this mystery has been revealed, not for any wisdom that is in me more than in all those living but that I notify the interpretation to the king and that thou might understand the thoughts of thy heart.

⁶ For I am the LORD, I have not changed; therefore, ye sons of Jacob have not been consumed.

¹¹ If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Father who is in the heavens give good things to those that ask him?

²⁵ ¶ At that time Jesus answered and said, I praise thee, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because thou hast hid these things from the wise and understanding and hast revealed them unto children. ²⁶ Even so, Father, for thus it was pleasing in thy sight.

¹¹ He answered and said unto them, Because it is given unto you to know the mysteries of the kingdom of the heavens, but to them it is not given. ¹² For whosoever has, to him shall be given, and he shall have in abundance; but whosoever has not, from him shall be taken away even that which he has.

¹³ If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those that ask him?

⁹ That Word was the true Light, which lightens every man that comes into this world.

²⁷ John answered and said, A man can receive nothing except it is given him from the heaven.

¹² ¶ Then Jesus spoke again unto them, saying, I AM the light of the world; he that follows me shall not walk in darkness but shall have the light of life.

³¹ God has exalted him with his right hand as Prince and Saviour, to give repentance to Israel and forgiveness of sins.

¹⁸ When they heard these things, they were silent and glorified God, saying, Then God has also granted repentance unto life to the Gentiles.

²³ For the wages of sin is death, but the grace of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

²⁹ For the gifts and calling of God are without repentance. ³⁰ For as ye in time past have not obeyed God, yet have now obtained mercy through the occasion of their disobedience,

⁶ So that having different gifts according to the grace that is given to us, whether prophecy, according to the measure of faith; ⁷ or ministry, in serving; or he that teaches, in doctrine; ⁸ he that exhorts, in exhortation; he that gives, let him do it in simplicity; he that presides, in earnest care; he that shows mercy, in cheerfulness.

⁷ ¶ For who makes thee to judge? and what hast thou that thou didst not receive? now if thou didst receive it, what dost thou glory of, as if thou hadst not received it?

⁴ Now there is dispersal of gifts, but the same Spirit. ⁵ And there is dispersal of ministries, but the same Lord. ⁶ And there is dispersal of operations, but it is the same God who works all in each one. ⁷ But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to each one to profit with. ⁸ For to one is given by the Spirit a word of wisdom; to another, a word of knowledge according to the same Spirit; ⁹ to another, faith by the same Spirit; to another, gifts of healing by the same Spirit; ¹⁰ to another, the operation of miracles; to another, prophecy; to another, discerning of spirits; to another, different kinds of tongues; to another, the interpretation of tongues: ¹¹ one and the same Spirit operates all these things, dispersing to each one his own gift as he wills. ¹² ¶ For as the body is one and has many members, and all the members of that one body, being many, are one body, so also the Christ.

⁶ For the God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, has shined in our hearts to bring forth the light of the knowledge of the clarity of God in the face of Jesus Christ.

¹⁸ illuminating the eyes of your understanding, that ye may know what is the hope of his calling and what are the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints

³ among whom also we all had our conversation in times past in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind and were by nature the children of wrath, even as all the others. ⁴ ¶ But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great charity with which he loved us, ⁵ even as we were dead in sins, he has made us alive together with the Christ (by whose grace ye are saved)

⁸ For by grace are ye saved through faith and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God,

⁸ Therefore he saith, When he ascended up on high, he led captivity captive and gave gifts unto men. ⁹ (Now that he ascended, what is it but that he also descended first into the lower parts of the earth? ¹⁰ He that descended is the same also that ascended up far above all the heavens, that he might fulfill all things.) ¹¹ And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers,

³ For we ourselves also were foolish in another time, rebellious, deceived, serving diverse lusts and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful, and hating one another. ⁴ But after that the kindness and love of God our Saviour toward man appeared, ⁵ not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Spirit,

¹¹ they shall perish; but thou dost remain; and they all shall wax old as doth a garment; ¹² and as a vesture shalt thou fold them up, and they shall be changed; but thou art the same, and thy years shall never fail.

⁸ Jesus Christ the same yesterday and today and for the ages.

¹⁵ This wisdom is not that which descends from above, but is earthly, natural, diabolical.

⁵ ¶ This then is the promise which we have heard of him and declare unto you, That God is light, and in him is no darkness at all.

¹⁰ In this does the charity consist, not because we had loved God, but because he loved us and has sent his Son to be the reconciliation for our sins.

¹¹ And this is the witness, that God has given eternal life to us, and this life is in his Son. ¹² He that has the Son has life; and he that does not have the Son of God does not have life.

²³ And the city had no need of the sun neither of the moon to shine in her, for the clarity of God has illuminated it, and the Lamb is its lamp.

⁵ And there shall be no night there; and they need no lamp neither light of the sun; for the Lord God shall give them light; and they shall reign for ever and ever.

¹⁰ Speak unto the sons of Israel and say unto them, When ye have entered into the land which I give unto you and shall reap the harvest thereof, then ye shall bring a sheaf of the firstfruits of your harvest unto the priest;

³ Israel was holiness unto the LORD and the firstfruits of his increase; all that devour him shall be found guilty; evil shall come upon them, saith the LORD.

¹ ¶ Woe unto those that are at ease in Zion and to those that trust in the mountain of Samaria, who are named principals among the same nations which shall come upon them, O house of Israel!

¹³ who are not born of blood, nor of the will of flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.

³ Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a person be born again from above, he cannot see the kingdom of God. ⁴ Nicodemus said unto him, How can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter the second time into his mother’s womb and be born? ⁵ Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Unless a man is born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.

¹⁷ ¶ as it is written, As a father of many Gentiles have I placed thee before God, whom he believed, who gives life to the dead and calls those things which are not as those that are.

²⁹ ¶ For unto those whom he knew beforehand, he also marked out beforehand the way that they might be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren. ³⁰ And unto those whom he did mark out beforehand the way, to these he also called; and to whom he called, these he also justified; and to whom he justified, these he also glorified. ³¹ ¶ What shall we then say to these things? If God is for us, who shall be against us?

¹⁵ For he saith to Moses, I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion. ¹⁶ So then it is not of him that wills, nor of him that runs, but of God that has mercy. ¹⁷ For the scripture saith of Pharaoh, Even for this same purpose have I raised thee up, that I might show my power in thee and that my name might be declared throughout all the earth. ¹⁸ Therefore he has mercy on whom he will have mercy, and he hardens whom he will.

¹⁵ For though ye may have ten thousand instructors in Christ, yet ye shall not have many fathers, for in Christ Jesus I have begotten you through the gospel.

¹² so that we should be to the praise of his glory, those of us who first trusted in the Christ.

²⁰ and by him to reconcile all things unto himself, having made peace through the blood of his cross {Gr. stauros – stake}, whether they are the things in the earth or the things in the heavens. ²¹ And you, that were in another time alienated and enemies in your mind by wicked works, yet now he has reconciled you

¹³ ¶ But we should always give thanks to God for you, brethren, beloved of the Lord, because God has from the beginning chosen you to saving health through the sanctification of the Spirit and faith in the truth, ¹⁴ unto which he called you by our gospel, to the obtaining of the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.

²³ to the congregation of the called out ones of the firstborn, who are registered in the heavens and to God the Judge of all and to the spirits of just men made perfect

²¹ So then, leave all uncleanness and remains of malice and receive with meekness the word ingested within you, which is able to cause your souls to be saved.

³ ¶ Praised be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus, the Christ, who according to his great mercy has begotten us again unto a living hope by the resurrection of Jesus, the Christ, from the dead,

²³ being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which lives and abides for ever.

⁹ Whosoever is born of God does not commit sin; for his seed remains in him; and he cannot sin, because he is born of God.

⁴ These are those who are not defiled with women, for they are virgins. These are those who follow the Lamb wherever he goes. These are redeemed from among men, being the firstfruits unto God and to the Lamb.

² And Ezra, the priest, brought the law before the congregation, both of men and women and all that could hear with understanding, upon the first day of the seventh month. ³ And he read in the book before the plaza that was before the water gate from the morning until midday, before the men and the women, and those that could understand; and the ears of all the people were attentive unto the book of the law.

¹² And all the people went to eat and to drink and to send portions and to rejoice with great joy because they had understood the words that were taught unto them. ¹³ ¶ And on the next day the princes of the families of all the people, the priests, and the Levites were gathered together unto Ezra, the scribe, to understand the words of the law. ¹⁴ And they found written in the law, which the LORD had commanded by Moses, that the sons of Israel should dwell in booths in the feast of the seventh month

¹⁸ And Ezra read in the book of the law of God each day, from the first day unto the last day. And they kept the feast seven days, and on the eighth day was a solemn assembly, according to the ordinance.

³ And they stood up in their place and read in the book of the law of the LORD their God one fourth part of the day; and another fourth part they confessed and worshipped the LORD their God.

¹⁷ and refused to hear; neither did they remember thy wonders that thou hadst done among them, but hardened their necks and in their rebellion thought to appoint a leader to return to their bondage; but thou art a God of pardons, gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and of great mercy, for thou didst not leave them.

³² ¶ Now therefore hearken unto me, O ye sons; for blessed are those that keep my ways. ³³ Hearken unto chastening, and be wise; refuse it not. ³⁴ Blessed is the man that hears me, keeping vigil at my gates, waiting at the threshold of my doors. ³⁵ For whosoever finds me shall find life and shall obtain the will of the LORD.

¹⁹ ¶ In the multitude of words there is no lack of rebellion, but he that refrains his lips is wise.

³ ¶ He that keeps his mouth keeps his life: but he that opens his lips often shall have calamity.

¹⁷ ¶ He that is soon angry shall deal foolishly, and the man of wicked devices shall be hated.

²⁹ ¶ He that is slow to wrath is of great intelligence, but he that is short of spirit exalts folly.

² ¶ The tongue of the wise shall adorn wisdom, but the mouth of fools shall speak foolishness.

¹⁸ ¶ A wrathful man stirs up strife, but he that is slow to anger appeases strife.

³² ¶ He that is slow to anger is better than the mighty, and he that rules his spirit than he that takes a city.

¹⁴ ¶ To release the waters (to speak rashly) is the beginning of contention; therefore, leave off strife before it gets started.

²⁷ ¶ He who has knowledge spares his words, and a man of understanding is of an excellent spirit.

¹³ ¶ For him that answers a word before he hears, it is folly and reproach unto him.

²¹ ¶ Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those that love it shall eat its fruit.

¹¹ ¶ The discretion of a man defers his anger, and it is his glory to pass over a transgression.

¹⁹ ¶ A man of great wrath shall suffer the consequences, for even if thou deliver him, yet thou must do it again.

²³ ¶ Whosoever keeps his mouth and his tongue keeps his soul from troubles.

²⁸ ¶ The man whose spirit has no restraint is like a city that is broken down and without walls.

¹ ¶ Watch thy feet when thou goest to the house of God and draw near with more willingness to hear than to give the sacrifice of fools, for they do not know how to do what God wants. ² Do not be rash with thy mouth and do not let thy heart be hasty to utter any thing before God, for God is in heaven and thou upon earth; therefore let thy words be few. ³ For out of much preoccupation comes the dream, and the voice of the fool out of a multitude of words.

⁸ Better is the end of a thing than its beginning, and he who has suffered in spirit is better than the proud in spirit. ⁹ Do not be hasty in thy spirit to be angry, for anger rests in the bosom of fools.

²² but I say unto you, That whosoever is angry with his brother out of control shall be in danger of the judgment, and whosoever shall insult his brother shall be in danger of the council, but whosoever shall say, Thou art impious, shall be in danger of hell.

² And soon many were gathered together, insomuch that there was no room to receive them, no, not so much as about the door; and he preached the word unto them.

³⁷ David therefore himself calls him Lord, and where then is he his son? And the many people heard him gladly.

¹ ¶ Then all the publicans and sinners drew near unto him to hear him.

⁴⁸ and could not find what they might do, for all the people were very attentive to hear him.

⁴² ¶ And they continued steadfastly in the apostles’ doctrine and fellowship and in breaking of bread and in prayers.

³³ Immediately therefore I sent to thee, and thou hast done well to come. Now therefore we are all here present before God to hear all things that are commanded thee of God.

⁴² ¶ And when they were gone out of the synagogue of the Jews, the Gentiles besought that these words might be spoken to them the next sabbath. ⁴³ Now when the synagogue was dismissed, many of the Jews and religious proselytes followed Paul and Barnabas, who, speaking to them, persuaded them to remain in the grace of God. ⁴⁴ And the next sabbath day almost the whole city came together to hear the word of God.

⁴⁸ And when the Gentiles heard this, they were glad and glorified the word of the Lord, and as many as were ordained to eternal life believed.

¹¹ These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all diligence and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so.

²⁰ idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, ²¹ envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like; which I denounce, as I have also told you in time past that those who do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.

²⁶ Be ye angry and sin not; let not the sun go down upon your wrath,

³¹ Let all bitterness and wrath and anger and clamour and evil speaking be taken away from you, with all malice,

⁸ ¶ But now put ye also off all these things: anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy communication out of your mouth.

¹⁵ And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, into which likewise ye are called into one body, and be ye thankful.

¹³ ¶ For this cause also we thank God without ceasing, that having received from us the word to hear from God, ye received it not as the word of men, (but as it is in truth) the word of God, which effectually works in you that believe.

²⁶ If anyone among you thinks to be religious and does not bridle his tongue, but deceives his own heart, his religion is vain.

¹ ¶ My brethren, make not unto yourselves many teachers, knowing that we shall receive the greater condemnation. ² For we all offend in many things. If any man offends not in word, the same is a perfect man, and able also to govern the whole body with restraint.

²¹ I have not written unto you as if ye ignore the truth, but as unto those that know it, and that no lie is of the truth.

¹¹ Then Moses lifted up his hand, and with his rod he smote the rock twice; and the water came out abundantly, and the congregation drank, and their beasts also. ¹² And the LORD spoke unto Moses and Aaron, Because ye believed me not, to sanctify me in the eyes of the sons of Israel, therefore, ye shall not bring this congregation into the land which I have given them.

²⁴ That the slave of the Lord should not be contentious, but be meek unto everyone, apt to teach, patient, ²⁵ that with meekness they might teach those that resist, if God peradventure will grant unto them that they might repent and know the truth,

¹⁷ But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, modest, benevolent, full of mercy and of good fruits, not judgmental, unfeigned. ¹⁸ And the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace unto those that make peace.

⁹ Teth He will cause the humble to pass through the judgment, and the meek he will teach his way.

²⁰ In that day man shall cast his idols of silver and his idols of gold (which they made each one for himself to worship) into the caves of the moles and of the bats,

¹⁹ Then the humble shall grow in joy in the LORD, and the poor among men shall rejoice in the Holy One of Israel.

²² Ye shall defile also the covering of thy graven images of silver and the protection of thy molten images of gold: thou shalt cast them away as a menstruous cloth; thou shalt say unto it, Go away from here.

¹ ¶ The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me because the LORD has anointed me; he has sent me to preach good tidings unto those who are cast down; to bind up the wounds of the broken-hearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to those that are bound;

³¹ Cast away from you all your iniquities by which ye have rebelled, and make yourselves a new heart and a new spirit; for why will ye die, O house of Israel?

²⁵ ¶ And I will sprinkle clean water upon you, and ye shall be cleansed from all your filthiness, and from all your idols I will cleanse you.

³ Seek ye the LORD, all ye humble of the earth, who have wrought his judgment; seek righteousness, seek humility: it may be ye shall be kept in the day of the LORD’s anger.

⁵ Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth.

⁶³ The Spirit is he that gives life; the flesh profits nothing; the words that I have spoken unto you, they are Spirit and they are life.

⁶⁸ Then Simon Peter answered him, Lord, to whom shall we go? thou hast the words of eternal life.

²⁶ Men and brethren, sons of the lineage of Abraham, and whosoever among you fears God, unto you is this word of saving health sent.

¹⁶ ¶ For I am not ashamed of the gospel of the Christ; for it is the power of God to give saving health to every one that believes: to the Jew first and also to the Greek.

¹⁷ Thank God that, although ye were the slaves of sin, ye have obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine unto which ye are delivered;

¹⁷ And if some of the branches were broken off, and thou, being a wild olive tree, wert grafted in among them and hath been made participant of the root and of the fatness of the olive tree,

¹² The night is past, and the day is come; let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us clothe ourselves with the weapons of light. ¹³ Let us walk honestly, as in the day, not in rioting and drunkenness, not in chambering and wantonness, not in strife and envying.

² by which also ye are being saved if ye retain the word that I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain.

¹ ¶ Having therefore these promises, dearly beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.

¹³ In whom ye also trusted, hearing the word of truth, the gospel of your saving health; in whom also after ye believed, ye were sealed with that Holy Spirit of the promise,

⁴ neither dishonest words nor foolishness nor low jesting, which are not convenient, but rather giving of thanks.

⁵ ¶ Mortify therefore your members which are upon the earth: fornication, uncleanness, inordinate affection, evil lust, and covetousness, which is idolatry; ⁶ for which things’ sake the wrath of God comes on the sons of disobedience, ⁷ in which ye also walked some time, when ye lived in them. ⁸ ¶ But now put ye also off all these things: anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy communication out of your mouth.

⁵ For our gospel did not come unto you in word only, but also in power and in the Holy Spirit and in full assurance as ye know what manner of men we were among you for your sake.

¹⁵ and that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto saving health by the faith which is in Christ Jesus. ¹⁶ All scripture is given by inspiration of God and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, ¹⁷ that the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works.

¹¹ ¶ For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men,

³ how shall we escape, if we belittle such great saving health? Which, having begun to be published by the Lord, has been confirmed unto us by those that heard him,

² For unto us was the gospel preached, as well as unto them, but it did not profit those that heard the word without mixing it with faith.

⁹ receiving the end of your faith, even the saving health of your souls.

¹ ¶ Having therefore left all malice and all guile and hypocrisies and envies and all murmurings,

¹¹ Dearly beloved, I beseech you as strangers and pilgrims, abstain from the carnal desires which war against the soul

³ The pride of thine heart hath deceived thee, thou that dwellest in the clefts of the rock, whose habitation is high; that saith in his heart, Who shall bring me down to the ground?

²¹ ¶ Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of the heavens, but he that doeth the will of my Father who is in the heavens. ²² Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? ²³ And then I will profess unto them, I never knew you; depart from me, ye that work iniquity. ²⁴ Therefore, whosoever hears these words of mine and does them, I will liken him unto a prudent man, who built his house upon the rock; ²⁵ and the rain descended, and the rivers came, and the winds blew and beat upon that house, and it did not fall, for it was founded upon a rock. ²⁶ And every one that hears these words of mine and does not do them shall be likened unto a foolish man, who built his house upon the sand; ²⁷ and the rain descended, and the rivers came, and the winds blew and beat upon that house, and it fell; and great was the fall of it.

⁵⁰ For whosoever shall do the will of my Father who is in the heavens, the same is my brother and sister and mother.

²⁰ teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you; and, behold, I am with you always even unto the end of the age. Amen.

⁴⁶ And why call ye me, Lord, Lord, and do not the things which I say? ⁴⁷ Whosoever comes to me and hears my words and does them, I will show you to whom he is like: ⁴⁸ he is like a man who built a house and dug deep and laid the foundation upon rock; and when the flood arose, the river beat vehemently upon that house and could not shake it, for it was founded upon rock.

²⁸ But he said, Rather, blessed are those that hear the word of God and keep it.

⁴⁷ And that slave who knew his lord’s will and prepared not himself, neither did according to his will, shall be beaten with many stripes. ⁴⁸ But he that knew not and did commit things worthy of stripes shall be beaten with few stripes. For unto whomsoever much is given, of him shall much be required; and to whom much was committed, more will be asked of him.

¹⁷ If ye know these things, ye shall be blessed if ye do them.

¹³ (for not the hearers of the law are just before God, but the doers of the law shall be justified;

¹⁸ ¶ Let no one deceive himself. If any one among you seems to be wise in this age, let them become a fool that they may be wise.

³³ Be not deceived: evil companions corrupt good character.

³ For if anyone thinks himself to be something, when he is nothing, he deceives himself.

⁸ Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are honest, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is any praise, exercise yourselves in these things.

¹⁷ And whatever ye do whether in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to the God and Father by him.

¹³ But evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving and being deceived.

³ For we ourselves also were foolish in another time, rebellious, deceived, serving diverse lusts and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful, and hating one another.

¹⁴ ¶ My brethren, What shall it profit though someone says that they have faith and do not have works? Shall this type of faith be able to save them? ¹⁵ If a brother or sister is naked and destitute of daily food, ¹⁶ and one of you says unto them, Depart in peace; be ye warmed and filled; but ye do not give them those things which are needful for the body; what shall it profit them? ¹⁷ Even so faith, if it does not have works, is dead in and of itself. ¹⁸ But someone may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works; show me thy faith without thy works, and I will show thee my faith by my works. ¹⁹ Thou believest that God is one; thou doest well; the demons also believe and tremble. ²⁰ But, O vain man, dost thou desire to know that faith without works is dead?

¹⁷ Therefore sin is still in the one that knows to do good and does not do it.

¹³ receiving the reward of their unrighteousness, as those that count it pleasure to live luxuriously every day. These are spots and blemishes, who eat together with you, while at the same time they revel in their deceit,

⁸ ¶ If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and there is no truth in us.

³ ¶ And in this we do know that we have known him if we keep his commandments.

⁷ Little children, let no one deceive you; he that does righteousness is righteous, even as he also is righteous.

¹¹ Beloved, follow not that which is evil, but that which is good. He that does good is of God, but he that does evil has not seen God.

⁹ And the great dragon was cast out, the serpent of old, who is called Devil and the Satan, who deceives the whole world; he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him.

⁷ Behold, I come quickly; blessed is he that keeps the words of the prophecy of this book.

¹⁶ As for the word that thou hast spoken unto us in the name of the LORD, we will not hearken unto thee.

³¹ And they shall come unto thee as the people come, and they shall be before thee, my people, and they shall hear thy words, but they shall not do them; for with their mouth they flatter, but their heart goes after their covetousness. ³² And, behold, thou art unto them as a singer of love songs, one that has a good voice and can sing well: and they shall hear thy words, but they will not do them.

⁷ And the scribes and Pharisees watched him, whether he would heal on the sabbath day, that they might find an accusation against him.

⁴⁷ Whosoever comes to me and hears my words and does them, I will show you to whom he is like:

¹⁸ ¶ Then he said unto Zebah and Zalmunna, What manner of men were those whom ye slew at Tabor? And they answered, As thou art, so were they; each one resembled the sons of a king.

²⁷ But the men marvelled, saying, What manner of man is this that even the winds and the sea obey him!

⁶⁶ And all those that heard them laid them up in their hearts, saying, Who shall this child be! And the hand of the Lord was with him.

³⁹ Now when the Pharisee who had invited him saw it, he spoke within himself, saying, This man, if he were a prophet, would have known who and what manner of woman this is that touches him, for she is a sinner.

¹¹ ¶ Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness,

¹⁴ If ye will fear the LORD and serve him and hear his voice and not rebel against the commandment of the LORD, then shall both ye and also the king that reigns over you continue following the LORD your God.

⁷ ¶ The law of the LORD is perfect, converting the soul; the testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple. ⁸ The statutes of the LORD are right, rejoicing the heart; the commandment of the LORD is pure, enlightening the eyes. ⁹ The fear of the LORD is clean, enduring for ever; the rights of the LORD are true, they are all just. ¹⁰ More to be desired are they than gold, than much fine gold; sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb. ¹¹ Moreover by them is thy slave warned, and in keeping them there is great reward.

³ Happy are those that keep judgment and he that does righteousness at all times.

² Blessed are those that keep his testimonies and that seek him with their whole heart. ³ For those who do no iniquity walk in his ways.

³² I will run the way of thy commandments when thou shalt enlarge my heart.

⁴⁵ ¶ And I will walk at liberty, for I sought thy commandments.

⁹⁶ ¶ I have seen an end of all perfection, but thy commandment is exceeding broad. ⁹⁷ ¶ MEM. O how I love thy law! it is my meditation all the day. ⁹⁸ ¶ Thou through thy commandments hast made me wiser than mine enemies, for they are eternal unto me. ⁹⁹ I have more understanding than all my teachers, for thy testimonies have been my meditation. ¹⁰⁰ I understand more than the elders because I keep thy precepts. ¹⁰¹ ¶ I have refrained my feet from every evil way, that I might keep thy word. ¹⁰² ¶ I have not departed from thy judgments, for thou hast taught me. ¹⁰³ ¶ How sweet have been thy spoken words unto my taste! yea, sweeter than honey to my mouth! ¹⁰⁴ Through thy precepts I have obtained understanding; therefore I have hated every false way. ¹⁰⁵ ¶ NUN. Thy word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my way.

¹⁵ ¶ The simple believes every word, but the prudent man understands his steps.

²⁰ To the law and to the testimony! If they do not speak according to this word, it is because there is no light in them.

⁴⁷ Whosoever comes to me and hears my words and does them, I will show you to whom he is like: ⁴⁸ he is like a man who built a house and dug deep and laid the foundation upon rock; and when the flood arose, the river beat vehemently upon that house and could not shake it, for it was founded upon rock. ⁴⁹ But he that hears and does not do is like a man that built a house upon the earth without a foundation against which the river beat vehemently, and immediately it fell; and the ruin of that house was great.

³⁶ If the Son therefore shall set you free, ye shall be free indeed.

⁹ ¶ As the Father has loved me, so I have loved you; abide in my love. ¹⁰ If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love, even as I have kept my Father’s commandments and abide in his love.

⁴³ Now when the synagogue was dismissed, many of the Jews and religious proselytes followed Paul and Barnabas, who, speaking to them, persuaded them to remain in the grace of God.

²² Having, therefore, obtained help of God, I continue unto this day, witnessing both to small and great, saying no other things than those which the prophets and Moses said should come:

⁷ to those who persevered in well doing, glory and honour and incorruption, to those who seek eternal life; ⁸ but unto those that are contentious and do not obey the truth, but are persuaded by unrighteousness, indignation and wrath.

¹² So the law is truly holy, and the commandment holy and just and good.

²² For I delight with the law of God with the inward man, ²³ but I see another law in my members which rebels against the law of my mind, bringing captive unto the law of sin which is in my members.

¹⁵ For ye have not received the spirit of slavery to be in fear again, but ye have received the Spirit of adoption of sons, whereby we cry, Abba, Father.

²² Behold, therefore, the goodness and severity of God: on those who fell, severity, but toward thee, goodness if thou continue in his goodness; otherwise thou also shalt be cut off.

⁵⁸ ¶ Therefore, my beloved brothers, be ye steadfast, unmovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord.

¹⁷ For the Lord is the Spirit, and where that Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty. ¹⁸ Therefore we all, beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord with uncovered face, are transformed from glory to glory into the same likeness, even as by the Spirit of the Lord.

⁵ Examine yourselves whether ye are in the faith; prove your own selves. Do ye not know your own selves if Jesus Christ is in you? Unless ye are reprobates.

⁴ And that in spite of the false brethren, who entered secretly to spy out our liberty which we have in Christ Jesus that they might bring us into bondage;

¹ ¶ Stand fast therefore in the liberty with which Christ has made us free and do not be entangled again with the yoke of slavery.

²³ if ye continue in the faith grounded and settled and are not moved away from the hope of the gospel, which ye have heard and which is preached to every creature which is under heaven, of which I Paul am made a minister,

¹⁵ notwithstanding she shall be saved in childbearing, if she continues in faith and charity and sanctification and modesty.

¹⁶ Take heed unto thyself and unto the doctrine; be diligent in this, for in doing so thou shalt both save thyself and those that hear thee.

¹⁵ looking diligently that no one deviate from the grace of God, lest any root of bitterness springing up impede you, and thereby many be defiled,

²³ For if anyone hears the word and does not put it into practice, this same is like unto the man beholding his natural face in a mirror: ²⁴ For he considered himself and went his way and in one hour forgot what he was like.

¹² So speak ye and so do as those that shall be judged by the law of liberty.

¹⁶ as being free, yet not using your liberty to cover maliciousness, but as slaves of God.

²⁴ Let that therefore abide in you, which ye have heard from the beginning. For if that which ye have heard from the beginning shall abide in you, ye also shall continue to abide in the Son and in the Father.

¹³ ¶ And I heard a voice from heaven saying unto me, Write, Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord from now on; Yea, saith the Spirit, that they may rest from their labours, and their works do follow them.

¹⁴ Blessed are those who do his commandments that their power and authority might be in the tree of life and they may enter in through the gates into the city.

¹⁶ Keep yourselves, therefore, that your heart not be deceived and ye turn aside and serve other gods and worship them;

⁹ Be ye not as the horse or as the mule, which have no understanding: whose mouth must be held in subjection with bit and bridle, or they will not come near unto thee.

¹³ Mem Keep thy tongue from evil, and thy lips from speaking guile.

¹ To the Overcomer, even to Jeduthun,
A Psalm of David. ¶ I said, I will take heed to my ways that I sin not with my tongue: I will keep my mouth with a bit while the wicked is against me. ² I was dumb with silence; I held my peace, even from good; and my sorrow was stirred.

³ Set a watch, O LORD, upon my mouth; keep the door of my lips.

³¹ ¶ The mouth of the just shall bring forth wisdom, but the perverse tongue shall be cut out.

² ¶ Of the fruit of his mouth man shall eat well: but the soul of the transgressors shall starve. ³ ¶ He that keeps his mouth keeps his life: but he that opens his lips often shall have calamity.

¹⁴ Ye have said, It is vain to serve God, and what profit is it that we have kept his law and that we walk mournfully before the LORD of the hosts?

⁹ But in vain do they worship me, teaching doctrines and commandments of men.

⁷ Howbeit in vain do they honor me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men.

¹⁸ Take heed therefore how ye hear, for whosoever has, to him shall be given; and whosoever has not, from him shall be taken even that which he seems to have.

¹⁵ And we are even found false witnesses of God because we have testified of God that he raised up the Christ, whom he did not raise up, if it so be that the dead do not rise.

⁶ But of these who seemed to be of repute, (whatever they were, it makes no matter to me: God does not accept the appearance of men), for those who seemed to be of repute in conference added nothing to me;

⁴ Have ye suffered so many things in vain? if it be yet in vain.

²⁹ Let no corrupt word proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good for edification, that it may minister grace unto the hearers.

⁶ Let your word be always with grace, seasoned with salt, that ye may know how ye ought to answer each one.

²² But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.

²⁰ But, O vain man, dost thou desire to know that faith without works is dead?

² For we all offend in many things. If any man offends not in word, the same is a perfect man, and able also to govern the whole body with restraint. ³ Behold, we put bits (or restraint) in the horses’ mouths to persuade them, and we govern their whole body. ⁴ Behold also the ships, which though they are so great are driven of fierce winds, yet they are governed with a very small rudder, wherever the governor desires. ⁵ In the same manner, the tongue is a very small member and boasts of great things. Behold, how great a forest a little fire kindles! ⁶ And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity: so is the tongue among our members, that it defiles the whole body and sets on fire the course of our nature; and it is set on fire of hell.

¹⁰ For he that desires to love life and see the good days, let him refrain his tongue from evil and his lips that they speak no guile;

¹² because I delivered the poor that cried and the fatherless who had no one to help him. ¹³ The blessing of the one that was ready to perish came upon me; and I caused the widow’s heart to sing for joy.

¹⁵ Did not he that made me in the belly also make him? And did not the same one fashion us in the womb? ¹⁶ ¶ If I have disturbed the desire of the poor or have caused the eyes of the widow to fail; ¹⁷ or have eaten my morsel alone and the fatherless has not eaten thereof; ¹⁸ (for from my youth the fatherless was brought up with me, as with a father, and I have guided the widow from my mother’s womb) ¹⁹ if I have seen any perish for want of clothing or any needy without a covering; ²⁰ if his loins have not blessed me and if he were not warmed with the fleece of my sheep;

⁵ A father of the fatherless and a defender of the widows is God in his holy habitation.

¹ ¶ ALEPH. Blessed are those who walk in the perfect way, who walk in the law of the LORD.

¹⁶ ¶ Wash yourselves, make yourselves clean; put away the evil of your doings from before my eyes; cease to do evil; ¹⁷ learn to do good; seek judgment; restore unto the oppressed; hear the fatherless in right judgment; protect the widow.

²³ Thy princes are rebellious and companions of thieves; every one loves bribes and follows after rewards; they do not hear the fatherless in judgment, neither does the cause of the widow come unto them.

⁶ Is not rather the fast that I have chosen, to loose the bands of wickedness, to undo the ties of oppression, to release into freedom those who are broken, and that ye break every yoke? ⁷ Is it not to share thy bread with the hungry and that thou bring the poor that are cast out into thy house? when thou seest the naked, that thou cover him; and that thou not hide thyself from thy brother?

⁸ Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.

³⁴ Then shall the King say unto those on his right hand, Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world; ³⁵ for I was hungry, and ye gave me food; I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink; I was a stranger, and ye took me in; ³⁶ naked, and ye clothed me; I was sick, and ye visited me; I was in prison, and ye came unto me. ³⁷ Then shall the righteous answer him, saying, Lord, when did we see thee hungry and feed thee? or thirsty and give thee drink? ³⁸ When did we see thee a stranger and take thee in? or naked and clothe thee? ³⁹ Or when did we see thee sick or in prison and come unto thee? ⁴⁰ And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brothers, ye have done it unto me. ⁴¹ Then he shall also say unto those who shall be on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into eternal fire, prepared for the devil and his angels; ⁴² for I was hungry, and ye gave me no food; I was thirsty, and ye gave me no drink; ⁴³ I was a stranger, and ye took me not in; naked, and ye clothed me not; sick and in prison, and ye visited me not. ⁴⁴ Then they shall also answer him, saying, Lord, when did we see thee hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison and did not minister unto thee? ⁴⁵ Then he shall answer them, saying, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye did it not to one of the least of my brothers, ye did it not to me. ⁴⁶ And they shall go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life.

⁶ And they were both righteous before God, walking in all the commandments and ordinances of the Lord, blameless.

¹⁴ I have given them thy word, and the world has hated them because they are not of the world, even as I am not of the world. ¹⁵ I do not pray that thou should take them out of the world, but that thou should keep them from the evil.

² And be not conformed to this age, but be ye transformed by the renewing of your soul that ye may experience what is that good and well pleasing and perfect will of God.

⁴ who gave himself for our sins that he might deliver us from this present evil age, according to the will of our God and Father,

⁶ For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision avails anything nor uncircumcision, but faith which works by charity.

⁹ And let us not be weary in well doing, for in due season we shall reap if we faint not. ¹⁰ Therefore as long as we have the opportunity, let us do good unto everyone, especially unto those who are of the household of faith.

¹⁴ But in no wise should I glory, except in the cross {Gr. stauros – stake} of our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom the world is crucified unto me, and I unto the world.

¹ ¶ If ye then are risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where the Christ sits at the right hand of God. ² Set your sight on things above, not on things on the earth. ³ For ye are dead and your life is hid with the Christ in God.

⁵ ¶ Now the end of the commandment is charity out of a pure heart and of a good conscience and of faith unfeigned:

⁴ But if any widow has children or grandchildren, let those learn first to govern their house in piety and to recompense their parents, for this is honest and pleasing before God.

⁴ Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? Whosoever therefore that desires to be a friend of the world, makes himself the enemy of God.

¹⁵ Love not the world neither the things that are in the world. If anyone loves the world, the charity of the Father is not in him. ¹⁶ For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh and the lust of the eyes and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world. ¹⁷ And the world passes away and the lust thereof, but he that does the will of God abides for ever.

¹⁷ But whosoever has this world’s goods and sees his brother have need and shuts up his bowels of compassion from him, how does the charity of God abide in him? ¹⁸ My little children, let us not love in word neither in tongue, but in deed and in truth. ¹⁹ And in this we know that we are of the truth and have our hearts certified before him.

⁴ For whatsoever is born of God overcomes the world; and this is the victory that overcomes the world, even our faith. ⁵ Who is he that overcomes the world, but he that believes that Jesus is the Son of God?

¹⁸ ¶ We know that whoever is born of God does not sin; but he that is begotten of God keeps himself, and the wicked one does not touch him.
