¹ ¶ Moreover, Job continued his parable and said, ² As God lives, who has taken away my rights; and the Almighty, who has made my soul bitter, ³ that all the while my breath is in me, and the spirit of God is in my nostrils, ⁴ my lips shall not speak iniquity, nor my tongue utter deceit. ⁵ In no wise should I justify you; until I die I will not remove my integrity from me. ⁶ I hold fast to my righteousness and will not let it go; my heart shall not reproach me so long as I live. ⁷ ¶ Let my enemy be as the wicked and my adversary as the unrighteous. ⁸ For what is the hope of the hypocrite, though he has stolen much, when God takes away his soul? ⁹ Will God hear his cry when the tribulation comes upon him? ¹⁰ Will he delight himself in the Almighty? Will he always call upon God? ¹¹ ¶ I will teach you what there is in the hand of God; I will not conceal that which is regarding the Almighty. ¹² Behold, all ye yourselves have seen it; why then are ye so completely vain? ¹³ This is the portion of a wicked man with God and the heritage of the violent, which they shall receive of the Almighty. ¹⁴ If their sons are multiplied, it is for the sword; and his offspring shall not be satisfied with bread. ¹⁵ Those that remain of him shall be buried in death; and their widows shall not weep. ¹⁶ Though he heaps up silver as the dust and prepares raiment as the clay, ¹⁷ he may prepare it, but the just shall put it on, and the innocent shall divide the silver. ¹⁸ He built his house as a moth and as a booth that the keeper makes. ¹⁹ The rich man shall lie down, but he shall not be gathered; he shall open his eyes and not see anyone. ²⁰ Terrors shall take hold on him as waters; a whirlwind shall carry him away in the night. ²¹ The east wind shall take him away, and he shall depart; the storm shall catch him up out of his place. ²² For God shall cast down on him and not spare; he would attempt to flee out of his hand. ²³ Men shall clap their hands at him, and from his place they shall hiss at him.

⁷ And he took up his parable and said, Balak, the king of Moab, has brought me from Aram, out of the mountains of the east, saying, Come, curse me Jacob and come, denounce Israel.

⁴ I will incline mine ear to a parable; I will declare my enigma upon the harp.

² I will open my mouth in a parable; I will utter enigmas of old,

⁷ Like unto the way that the one who is lame walks, so is a proverb in the mouth of the fool.

²¹ But as truly as I live, all the earth shall be filled with the glory of the LORD.

²⁰ And she said unto them, Call me not Naomi, call me Mara; for the Almighty has dealt very bitterly with me. ²¹ I went out full, and the LORD has brought me home again empty. Why then call ye me Naomi, seeing the LORD has testified against me, and the Almighty has afflicted me?

¹³ Tarry this night, and it shall be in the morning that if he will redeem thee, well, let him redeem thee, but if he does not wish to redeem, then I will redeem thee, as the LORD lives; lie down until the morning.

³⁹ For, as the LORD lives, who saves Israel, though it be in Jonathan, my son, he shall surely die. But there was not a man among all the people that answered him.

⁴⁵ Then the people said unto Saul, Shall Jonathan die, who has wrought this great saving health in Israel? No, in no wise: as the LORD lives, there shall not one hair of his head fall to the ground, for he has wrought with God this day. So the people rescued {Heb. ransomed} Jonathan that he did not die.

²¹ And, behold, I will send a lad, saying, Go, find the arrows. If I expressly say unto the lad, Behold, the arrows are on this side of thee; take them, then come thou, for there is peace unto thee and no hurt, as the LORD lives.

²⁶ Now, therefore, my lord, as the LORD lives and as thy soul lives, seeing the LORD has withheld thee from coming to shed blood and from avenging thyself with thy own hand, now let thy enemies and those that seek evil to my lord be as Nabal.

³⁴ For in very deed as the LORD God of Israel lives, who has kept me back from hurting thee, except thou hadst hastened and come to meet me, surely there had not been left unto Nabal by the morning light any that piss against the wall.

²⁷ And Joab replied, As God lives, if thou had not spoken, surely from this morning the people would have left off from following their brothers.

¹ ¶ Then Elijah, the Tishbite, who was of the inhabitants of Gilead, said unto Ahab, As the LORD God of Israel lives, before whom I stand, there shall not be dew nor rain these years, but according to my word.

¹⁵ And Elijah said unto him, As the LORD of the hosts lives, before whom I stand, I will surely show myself unto him today.

²⁷ And when she came to the man of God in the mountain, she caught him by the feet. And Gehazi came near to thrust her away; but the man of God said, Let her alone, for her soul is bitter within her; and the LORD has hid it from me and has not revealed it to me.

¹⁸ He will not suffer me to take my breath but has filled me with bitterness.

³ Is it good unto thee that thou should oppress, that thou should reject the work of thine hands and shine upon the counsel of the wicked?

⁵ For Job has said, I am righteous; and God has taken away my right.

²⁷ ¶ Why sayest thou, O Jacob, and speakest thou, O Israel, My way is hid from the LORD, and my judgment is passed over from my God?

² And thou shalt swear, The LORD lives, in truth, in judgment, and in righteous ness; and the Gentiles shall bless themselves in him, and in him shall they glory.

² And if they should say, The LORD lives; surely they swear falsely.

¹⁶ And it shall come to pass, if they will diligently learn the ways of my people, to swear in my name, saying, The LORD lives; as they taught my people to swear by Baal then they shall be prospered in the midst of my people.

¹¹ Say unto them, As I live, said the Lord GOD, I do not desire the death of the wicked but that the wicked turn from his way and that he live; turn ye, turn ye from your evil ways; for why will ye die, O house of Israel?

⁷ And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and man became a living soul.

⁸ Certainly there is a spirit in man, and the inspiration of the Almighty gives them understanding.

⁴ The Spirit of God made me, and the breath of the Almighty gave me life.

²² Cease from man, whose breath is in his nostrils; for of what is he to be accounted of?

²⁵ neither is worshipped with men’s hands, as though he needed any thing, seeing he gives to all life and breath and all things

²⁸ Now, therefore, if ye desire, look upon me and see if I shall lie in your presence.

⁷ Are ye to speak iniquity for God? Are ye to speak deceitfully for him?

⁶ In my judgment he was a liar, my arrow wound is grievous without my having committed a transgression.

⁵⁵ yet ye have not known him, but I know him; and if I should say, I do not know him, I shall be a liar like unto you; but I know him and keep his word.

¹⁰ It is the truth of Christ in me that this glory shall not be sealed up unto me in the regions of Achaia.

¹ ¶ If there is a controversy between persons and they come unto judgment and they are judged, then they shall justify the righteous and condemn the wicked.

⁹ Then his wife said unto him, Dost thou still retain thine integrity? Blaspheme God and die.

¹⁵ Though he slay me, yet I will trust in him; but I will defend my ways before him.

¹⁴ I put on righteousness, and it clothed me as a robe; and my diadem was judgment.

³ Also against his three friends was his wrath kindled because they had found no answer, and yet had condemned Job.

⁷ ¶ And it was so, that after the LORD had spoken these words unto Job, the LORD said to Eliphaz, the Temanite, My wrath has been kindled against thee, and against thy two friends; for ye have not spoken by me in uprightness, as my slave Job has.

¹⁵ ¶ He that justifies the wicked and he that condemns the just, even they both are abomination to the LORD.

¹² ¶ For our rejoicing is this, the testimony of our conscience, that in simplicity and godly sincerity, not with carnal wisdom, but by the grace of God, we have had our conversation in the world and more abundantly towards you.

¹¹ ¶ But when Peter was come to Antioch, I withstood him to the face because he was to be blamed.

³ And the LORD said unto Satan, Hast thou considered my slave Job, that there is none like him in the earth, a perfect and an upright man, one that fears God and has departed from evil and that he still retains his perfection, although thou didst incite me against him to destroy him without cause.

²⁰ ¶ The LORD will reward me according to my righteousness; according to the cleanness of my hands he shall recompense me. ²¹ Because I have kept the ways of the LORD and did not become wicked departing in apostasy from my God. ²² For all his judgments were before me, and I did not put away his statutes from me. ²³ I was perfect before him, and I kept myself from my iniquity.

¹³ Take fast hold of chastening; do not let go; keep this; for it is thy life.

¹⁶ And for this reason do I exercise myself to have always a conscience void of offense toward God and toward men.

¹¹ ¶ I have been a fool, glorying; ye have compelled me; for I ought to have been commended of you, for in nothing am I behind the grandiose apostles, though I am nothing.

²⁰ ¶ And if our heart condemns us, God is greater than our heart and knows all things. ²¹ Beloved, if our heart does not condemn us, then we have confidence in God;

³² And the king said unto Cushi, Is the young man Absalom at peace? And Cushi answered, Let the enemies of my lord the king and all that rise against thee for evil, be as that young man.

¹⁹ ¶ Then Daniel, whose name was Belteshazzar, was silent for almost one hour, and his thoughts troubled him. Then the king spoke and said, Belteshazzar, do not let the dream or its interpretation trouble thee. Belteshazzar answered and said, My lord, let the dream be to thine enemies, and its interpretation to those that wish thee evil.

¹³ So are the paths of all that forget God, and the hypocrite’s hope shall perish.

²⁰ But the eyes of the wicked shall consume themselves, and they shall have no refuge, and their hope shall be agony of the soul.

¹⁶ He also shall be my saving health; for the hypocrite shall not enter into his presence.

³⁴ For the congregation of the hypocrites shall be made desolate, and fire shall consume the tents of bribery.

⁵ that the triumphing of the wicked is short, and the joy of the hypocrite but for a moment?

³ Is there no destruction for the wicked? And banishment for the workers of iniquity?

¹⁴ The sinners in Zion are afraid; fearfulness has surprised the hypocrites. Who among us shall dwell with the devouring fire? Who among us shall dwell with eternal flames? ¹⁵ He that walks in righteousness, he that speaks uprightly; he that despises the gain of violence, he that shakes his hands from receiving bribes; he that stops his ears to not hear of blood; he who shuts his eyes to not see evil;

²⁶ For what is a man profited if he shall gain the whole world and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?

¹³ ¶ But woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye shut up the kingdom of the heavens in front of men, for ye neither go in yourselves, neither suffer ye those that are entering to go in.

³⁶ For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world and lose his own soul? ³⁷ Or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?

²⁵ For what is a man advantaged if he gains the whole world, having destroyed himself or having suffered the loss of himself?

²⁰ But God said unto him, Thou fool, this night thy soul shall be required of thee; then whose shall those things be which thou hast stored up? ²¹ So is he that lays up treasure for himself and is not rich in God.

⁹ For those that desire to be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and hurtful lusts which drown men in destruction and perdition. ¹⁰ For the love of money is the root of all evil, which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.

¹ ¶ Come now, Oh ye rich, weep and howl for your miseries that shall come upon you. ² Your riches are rotten, and your garments are motheaten. ³ Your gold and silver is corrupted with rust; and the rust of them shall be a witness against you and shall completely eat your flesh, as fire. Ye have heaped treasure together for the last days.

¹² There they shall cry, but he shall give no answer because of the pride of those that are evil. ¹³ Surely God will not hear vanity, neither will the Almighty look upon it.

⁴¹ They cried out, but there was no one to save them: even unto the LORD, but he did not answer them.

¹⁸ If I regard iniquity in my heart, the Lord will not hear me:

⁷ When he shall be judged, let him be condemned, and let his prayer become sin.

²⁸ Then they shall call upon me, but I will not answer; they shall seek me early, but they shall not find me:

⁹ ¶ He that turns away his ear from hearing the law, even his prayer shall be abomination.

¹⁵ And when ye spread forth your hands, I will hide my eyes from you; likewise, when ye make many prayers, I will not hear; your hands are full of blood.

¹¹ ¶ Therefore thus hath the LORD said, Behold, I will bring evil upon them, which they shall not be able to escape; and though they shall cry unto me, I will not hearken unto them.

¹² When they fast, I will not hear their cry; and when they offer burnt offering and an oblation, I will not accept them; but I will consume them by sword and by famine and by pestilence.

¹⁸ Therefore I will also deal in fury: my eye shall not forgive, neither will I have mercy: and they shall cry in my ears with a loud voice; yet I will not hear them.

¹⁴ And they have not cried unto me with their heart when they howled upon their beds; they congregated themselves for the wheat and the wine, and they rebelled against me.

⁴ Then they shall cry unto the LORD, but he will not respond to them: he will even hide his face from them at that time because of their evil doings.

¹³ Therefore it is come to pass that as he cried and they would not hear, so they cried, and I would not hear, saith the LORD of the hosts:

²⁵ When once the husband of the house is risen up and shall have shut the door, and ye begin to stand without and to knock at the door, saying, Lord, Lord, open unto us; and he shall answer and say unto you, I know you not from where ye are,

³¹ Now we know that God does not hear sinners, but if anyone should fear God and do his will, him he will hear.

³ Ye ask and receive not because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your pleasures.

²⁶ For then shalt thou have thy delight in the Almighty and shalt lift up thy face unto God. ²⁷ Thou shalt make thy prayer unto him, and he shall hear thee, and thou shalt pay thy vows.

⁴ In the same manner delight thyself in the LORD, and he shall give thee the desires of thy heart.

⁴ Then I will enter in to the altar of God, unto the God of my exceeding joy; yea, upon the harp will I praise thee, O God my God.

³⁴ When he slew them, then they sought him, and they returned and enquired early after God. ³⁵ And they remembered that God was their rock and the high God their redeemer. ³⁶ Nevertheless they flattered him with their mouth, and they lied unto him with their tongues.

¹⁸ yet I will rejoice in the LORD; I will joy in the God of my saving health.

²¹ yet he has no root in himself but is temporal, for when affliction or persecution arises because of the word, by and by he is offended.

¹ ¶ And he spoke a parable unto them to this end, that it behooves us always to pray and not faint,

² a devout man and one that feared God with all his house, who gave many alms to the people and prayed to God always.

¹⁸ praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit and watching in this with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints

¹⁷ Pray without ceasing.

⁵ Behold, I have taught you statutes and rights, even as the LORD my God commanded me, that ye should do thus in the midst of the land where ye are about to enter in to possess it.

³ Behold, thou hast instructed many, and thou hast strengthened the weak hands. ⁴ Thy words have upheld the one that was falling, and thou hast strengthened the feeble knees.

¹⁰ Then should my comfort grow; I would hold on to sorrow without mercy; for I have not contradicted the words of the Holy One.

⁸ Certainly there is a spirit in man, and the inspiration of the Almighty gives them understanding. ⁹ Great men are not always wise; neither do the aged understand judgment. ¹⁰ Therefore I said, Hearken to me; I also will declare my knowledge.

¹⁷ O God, thou hast taught me from my youth and until now; I shall manifest thy wondrous works.

¹¹ For the LORD spoke thus to me with a strong hand and instructed me that I should not walk in the way of this people, saying,

²⁰ and how I kept back nothing that was profitable unto you, but have showed you and have taught you publicly and from house to house,

²⁵ How forcible are the words of rectitude! But what does your argument reprove? ²⁶ Are ye not thinking up words of reproof and throw to the wind words that are lost? ²⁷ Ye also overwhelm the fatherless and dig a pit before your friend. ²⁸ Now, therefore, if ye desire, look upon me and see if I shall lie in your presence. ²⁹ Turn now, and there is no iniquity; return again to look for my righteousness in this.

⁴ That ye are certainly forgers of lies; ye are all physicians of no value. ⁵ O that ye would altogether be silent! And it would be unto you instead of wisdom. ⁶ Hear now my dispute, and hearken to the arguments of my lips. ⁷ Are ye to speak iniquity for God? Are ye to speak deceitfully for him? ⁸ Are ye to bring honour unto him? Are ye to contend for God? ⁹ Would it be good for him to search you out? As one man mocks another, do ye so mock him?

³ Shall vain words have an end? Or what is it that emboldens thee to answer?

² Now there are only mockers with me, upon whose bitterness my eye continues to gaze.

² How long will ye anguish my soul and break me in pieces with words? ³ These ten times ye have reproached me; are ye not ashamed to make yourselves strange to me?

³ Suffer me that I may speak; and after I have spoken, mock on.

²⁸ For ye say, What is of the house of the prince, and what of the tent of the habitation of the wicked? ²⁹ Have ye not asked those that go by the way, and do ye not know their tokens? ³⁰ That the wicked is reserved for the day of destruction, they shall be brought forth to the day of wrath.

² How hast thou helped the one who has no power? Hast thou saved with thy arm the one who has no strength? ³ How hast thou counselled the one that has no wisdom? and how hast thou plentifully declared the thing as it is? ⁴ To whom hast thou uttered words, and whose is the spirit that comes forth from thee?

¹⁴ ¶ There is another vanity which is done upon the earth: that there are just men, who are recompensed as if they had done according to the work of the wicked; again, there are wicked men, who are recompensed as if they had done according to the work of the righteous; I say that this also is vanity.

¹ ¶ Certainly I applied my heart unto all of this that I might declare all of this: that the righteous and the wise and their works are in the hand of God; no man knows either love or hatred by all that passes before them. ² All things come alike to all: there is one event to the righteous and to the wicked; to the good and to the clean and to the unclean; to him that sacrifices and to him that does not sacrifice: as unto the good so unto the sinner; and unto him that swears as unto him that fears the oath. ³ This is an evil among all things that are done under the sun, that there is one event unto all; and also that the heart of the sons of men is full of evil, and madness is in their heart while they live, and after that they go to the dead.

²⁰ The wicked man travails with pain all his days, and the number of years is hidden from the violent. ²¹ Fearful sounds are in his ears; in peace the destroyer shall come upon him. ²² He will not believe that he shall return out of darkness, and he is always watching the sword. ²³ He wanders abroad for bread, saying, Where is it? He knows that the day of darkness is prepared for him. ²⁴ Tribulation and anguish shall make him afraid; they shall prevail against him, as a king ready to the battle. ²⁵ Because he extended his hand against God and strengthens himself against the Almighty, ²⁶ he shall run him through in the neck, upon the thick shoulder pieces of his shields; ²⁷ for he covered his face with his fatness and made collops of fat on his flanks; ²⁸ and he dwelt in desolate cities and in houses which no one inhabited, which were in heaps. ²⁹ He shall not become rich, nor shall his strength be established, neither shall he extend his beauty upon the earth. ³⁰ He shall not escape from the darkness; the flame shall dry up his branches, and by the breath of his mouth he shall perish. ³¹ He shall not be established; in vanity he shall err; therefore, he shall be changed into vanity. ³² He shall be cut off before his time, and his branch shall not be green. ³³ He shall shake off his sour grapes as the vine and shall cast off his flower as the olive. ³⁴ For the congregation of the hypocrites shall be made desolate, and fire shall consume the tents of bribery. ³⁵ They conceive pain and bring forth iniquity, and their belly meditates deceit.

¹⁹ Because he oppressed and forsook the poor; because he has violently taken away houses which he did not build, ²⁰ therefore, he shall not feel quietness in his belly; he shall not escape with that which he desired. ²¹ Nothing is left that he did not eat; therefore, his goods shall not last. ²² In the fullness of his sufficiency, he shall come into anguish; the hands of all the wicked shall come upon him. ²³ ¶ When he is about to fill his belly, God shall cast the fury of his wrath upon him and shall rain it upon him and upon his food. ²⁴ He shall flee from the weapons of iron, and the bow of bronze shall strike him through. ²⁵ He shall draw forth an arrow from his quiver, and like lightning it shall strike through his gall; terrors shall come upon him. ²⁶ All darkness is kept for his secrets; a fire not blown shall consume him; his successor shall be broken in his tent. ²⁷ The heavens shall reveal his iniquity; and the earth shall rise up against him. ²⁸ The increase of his house shall be taken captive; they shall be scattered in the day of his wrath. ²⁹ This is the portion of a wicked man from God and the heritage that God appoints unto him by his word.

⁶ Upon the wicked he shall rain snares, fire and brimstone, with winds of whirlwinds: this shall be the portion of their cup.

⁵ For the oppression of the poor, for the sighing of the needy, now I will arise, saith the LORD; I will set in safety the one whom the wicked one has ensnared.

²² ¶ Rob not the poor, because he is poor: neither destroy the destitute in judgment: ²³ For the LORD will judge their cause and spoil the soul of those that spoiled them.

¹³ but it shall never be well with the wicked, neither shall his days be prolonged, which are as a shadow, because he did not fear before the presence of God.

¹¹ Woe unto the wicked! It shall be ill with him, for according to the work of his hands it shall be done unto him.

⁵ And I will come near unto you for judgment; and I will be a swift witness against the sorcerers and against the adulterers and against false swearers and against those that oppress the hireling in his wages, the widow, and the fatherless, and that turn aside the stranger from his right, and do not fear me, said the LORD of the hosts.

⁴ Behold, the hire of the labourers who have reaped your fields (which you have kept back by fraud) cries out; and the cries of those who have reaped have entered into the ears of the Lord of the hosts. ⁵ Ye have lived in pleasure on the earth and been wanton; ye have refreshed your hearts, as in the day of slaughter of sacrifices. ⁶ Ye have condemned and murdered the just, and he does not resist you.

⁹ the Lord knows how to deliver the godly out of temptations and to reserve the unjust unto the day of judgment to be punished;

³² Thy sons and thy daughters shall be given unto another people, and thine eyes shall look and fail with longing for them all the day long; and there shall be no strength in thine hand.

⁴¹ Thou shalt beget sons and daughters, but thou shalt not enjoy them; for they shall go into captivity.

⁵ Those that were full have hired themselves out for bread, and those that were hungry ceased so that the barren has given birth to seven, and she that has many children is waxed feeble.

⁷ And thou shalt smite the house of Ahab, thy master, that I may avenge the blood of my slaves, the prophets, and the blood of all the slaves of the LORD, at the hand of Jezebel. ⁸ For the whole house of Ahab shall perish, and I will cut off from Ahab him that pisses against the wall, he that is shut up as well as he that is left in Israel.

⁶ Then he wrote a letter the second time to them, saying, If ye are mine and if ye will hearken unto my voice, take the heads of the male sons of your master and come to me to Jezreel by tomorrow this time. Now the king’s sons, being seventy males, were with the great men of the city, who had brought them up. ⁷ And when the letter came to them, they took the king’s sons and slew seventy males and put their heads in baskets and sent him them to Jezreel. ⁸ And a messenger came and told him, saying, They have brought the heads of the king’s sons. And he said, Lay them in two heaps at the entrance of the gate until the morning. ⁹ And in the morning, he went out and stood and said to all the people, Ye are righteous; behold, I conspired against my master and slew him; but who slew all these? ¹⁰ Know now that of the word of the LORD which the LORD spoke concerning the house of Ahab, nothing shall fall to the ground, for the LORD has done that which he spoke by his slave Elijah.

¹¹ And Haman told them of the glory of his riches and the multitude of his sons and all the things in which the king had promoted him and how he had advanced him above the princes and slaves of the king.

⁵ Thus the Jews smote all their enemies with the stroke of the sword and slaughter and destruction and did what they would unto those that hated them. ⁶ And in Shushan, the palace, the Jews slew and destroyed five hundred men. ⁷ Then they also slew Parshandatha, Dalphon, Aspatha, ⁸ Poratha, Adalia, Aridatha, ⁹ Parmashta, Arisai, Aridai, and Vajezatha, ¹⁰ the ten sons of Haman, the son of Hammedatha; the enemy of the Jews, they slew, but on the spoil they did not lay their hand.

²² He will not believe that he shall return out of darkness, and he is always watching the sword.

¹⁰ ¶ His poor sons shall go forth begging, and their hands shall restore that which he stole.

¹¹ They send forth their little ones like a flock of sheep, and their children dance. ¹² They jump at the sound of the timbrel and harp and rejoice at the sound of the organ.

¹³ Let his posterity be cut off, and in the generation following let their name be blotted out.

¹³ Ephraim, as I saw Tyre, is planted in a pleasant place; but Ephraim shall bring forth his sons to the murderer. ¹⁴ Give them, O LORD, that which thou must give them; give them a miscarrying womb and dry breasts.

²⁹ For, behold, the days are coming, in which they shall say, Blessed are the barren and the wombs that never bare and the breasts which never gave suck.

¹⁰ therefore, behold, I will bring evil upon the house of Jeroboam and will cut off from Jeroboam everyone that pisses against the wall, the one that is shut up along with the one that is left in Israel, and will burn away the remnant of the house of Jeroboam, as a man burns away dung until it is all gone. ¹¹ The one that dies of those of Jeroboam in the city, the dogs shall eat, and the one that dies in the field, the fowls of the air shall eat; for the LORD has spoken it.

³ behold, I will burn up the posterity of Baasha and the posterity of his house and will make thy house like the house of Jeroboam, the son of Nebat. ⁴ He that dies of Baasha in the city, the dogs shall eat; and he that dies of his in the fields, the fowls of the air shall eat.

²¹ Behold, I will bring evil upon thee and will burn away thy posterity and will cut off from Ahab him that pisses against the wall and he that is kept and he that is left in Israel. ²² And I will make thy house like the house of Jeroboam, the son of Nebat and like the house of Baasha, the son of Ahijah, for the provocation with which thou hast provoked me to anger and made Israel to sin. ²³ And of Jezebel, the LORD has also spoken, saying, The dogs shall eat Jezebel by the rampart of Jezreel. ²⁴ Him that dies of Ahab in the city, the dogs shall eat, and him that dies in the field, shall the fowls of the air eat.

⁶⁴ Their priests fell by the sword; and their widows made no lamentation.

¹⁸ Therefore thus hath the LORD said concerning Jehoiakim the son of Josiah king of Judah; They shall not lament for him, saying, Ah my brother! and Ah sister! they shall not lament for him, saying, Ah lord! or, Ah his glory!

²⁷ And the king made silver to be in Jerusalem as stones, and he made cedars to be as the sycamore trees that are in the vale, for abundance.

²⁴ then thou shalt lay up gold as dust and the gold of Ophir as the stones of the brooks.

⁶ Shall not all these take up a parable against him and a taunting enigma against him and say, Woe to him that multiplied that which was not his! And for how long would he pile thick clay upon himself?

³ And Tyre built herself a stronghold and heaped up silver as the dust and fine gold as the mire of the streets.

¹⁹ ¶ Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon the earth, where moth and rust corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal;

² Your riches are rotten, and your garments are motheaten.

²² ¶ A good man shall leave an inheritance to his children’s children, and the wealth of the sinner is laid up for the just.

⁸ ¶ He that by usury and unjust gain increases his substance, he shall gather it for him that will pity the poor.

²⁶ For God gives to the man that is good in his sight wisdom and knowledge and joy, but to the sinner he gives travail, to gather and to heap up, that he may give to the one that is good before God. This also is vanity and vexation of spirit.

¹⁴ For his hope shall be cut off, and his trust is a spider’s web. ¹⁵ He shall lean upon his house, but it shall not stand; he shall hold it fast, but it shall not endure.

⁸ And the daughter of Zion is left as a cottage in a vineyard, as a lodge in a garden of cucumbers, as a besieged city.

¹² My dwelling place has been moved and is removed from me as a shepherd’s tent; he has cut off my life like a weaver: he has cut me off with sickness: between the day and the night thou shalt consume me.

⁸ For the moth shall eat them up like a garment, and the worm shall eat them like wool: but my righteousness shall be for ever, and my saving health from age to age.

⁶ Vau And he has violently taken away his tabernacle as if it were of a garden; he has destroyed his congregation; the LORD has caused the solemnities and sabbaths to be forgotten in Zion and has rejected in the indignation of his anger the king and the priest.

¹⁰ The sceptre shall not be taken from Judah, nor the lawgiver from between his feet until Shiloh comes; and unto him shall the gathering of the people be.

⁸ The eyes of those that see me now shall not see me again; thine eyes shall be upon me, and I will cease to be.

²² Those that hate thee shall be clothed with shame, and the dwelling place of the wicked shall come to nought.

¹⁰ But when man shall die and be cut off, and the man shall perish, where shall he be?

¹² So man lies down and does not rise; until there is no heaven, they shall not awake nor be raised out of their sleep. ¹³ O that thou would hide me in Sheol, that thou would keep me covered until thy wrath is past, that thou would appoint me a set time and remember me! ¹⁴ If a man dies, shall he live again? All the days of my appointed time I will wait until my transformation comes. ¹⁵ Then thou shalt call, and I will answer thee; thou wilt have a desire towards the work of thine hands.

⁷ yet he shall perish for ever like his own dung; those who have seen him shall say, What is become of him? ⁸ He shall fly away as a dream and shall not be found: yea, he shall flee away as a vision of the night. ⁹ The eye which saw him shall see him no more; neither shall his place behold him any more.

²³ This one shall die in the full strength of his beauty, being completely at ease and quiet. ²⁴ His breasts are full of milk, and his bones are moistened with marrow. ²⁵ And another dies in the bitterness of his soul, never having eaten with pleasure. ²⁶ They shall lie down alike in the dust, and the worms shall cover them.

³⁰ That the wicked is reserved for the day of destruction, they shall be brought forth to the day of wrath.

²⁴ They were exalted for a little while, but are gone and brought low; they are taken out of the way as all others and cut off as the tops of the heads of grain.

²³ For I know that thou dost conduct me unto death and to the house appointed for all living.

⁹ Before your pots can feel the fire of the thorns, he shall take them away as with a whirlwind, both living, and in his wrath.

¹⁹ How they are brought into desolation, as in a moment! They have come to an end; they are utterly consumed with terrors. ²⁰ As the dream of one who awakes; so, O Lord, when thou shalt rise up, thou shalt despise their appearances.

² and they shall spread them before the sun and the moon and all the host of heaven, whom they have loved and whom they have served and after whom they have walked and whom they have sought and whom they have worshipped: they shall not be gathered, nor be buried; they shall be for dung upon the face of the earth.

¹² whose fan is in his hand; and he will thoroughly purge his threshing floor and gather his wheat into the storehouse, but he will burn up the chaff with fire that shall never be quenched.

³⁷ O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, thou that didst kill the prophets and stone those who are sent unto thee, how often I desired to gather thy children together, even as a hen gathers her chickens under her wings, and ye would not!

²⁹ ¶ And it came to pass, that at midnight the LORD smote all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, from the firstborn of Pharaoh that sat on his throne unto the firstborn of the captive that was in the dungeon, and all the firstborn of the animals.

³⁵ ¶ And it came to pass that night that the angel of the LORD went out and smote in the camp of the Assyrians one hundred and eighty-five thousand men; and when they arose early in the morning, behold, the corpses of the dead.

²¹ Fearful sounds are in his ears; in peace the destroyer shall come upon him.

¹¹ ¶ Terrors shall make him afraid on every side, and his own feet shall drive him away.

⁸ He shall fly away as a dream and shall not be found: yea, he shall flee away as a vision of the night.

²³ ¶ When he is about to fill his belly, God shall cast the fury of his wrath upon him and shall rain it upon him and upon his food.

¹⁸ They shall be as stubble before the wind and as chaff taken up by the whirlwind.

¹⁶ Who were cut down out of time, whose foundation was overflown with a flood.

²⁰ In a moment they shall die, and the peoples shall be troubled at midnight and shall pass away; and the mighty shall be taken away without hand.

⁴ The pain of death compassed me, and the rivers of Belial made me afraid.

⁷ Deep calls unto deep at the voice of thy waterspouts; all thy waves and thy billows are gone over me.

¹⁴ Deliver me out of the mire, and let me not drown; let me be delivered from those that hate me and out of the deep waters. ¹⁵ Let not the violent force of the waters overcome me, neither let the deep swallow me up, and let not the pit shut her mouth upon me.

³⁰ ¶ That same night Belshazzar the king of the Chaldeans was slain.

³ For thou hadst cast me into the deep, in the midst of the seas; and the floods compassed me about; all thy billows and thy waves passed over me.

²³ And Moses stretched forth his rod toward heaven, and the LORD raised his voice and it hailed, and the fire ran along upon the ground; and the LORD rained hail upon the land of Egypt. ²⁴ So there was hail and fire mingled with the hail, very grievous, such as there was none like it in all the land of Egypt since it became inhabited. ²⁵ And that hail smote throughout all the land of Egypt all that was in the field, both men and beasts; and the hail smote all the grass of the field and broke all the trees of the field.

¹⁰ he shall return no more to his house; neither shall his place know him any more.

¹⁵ so persecute them with thy tempest and make them afraid with thy whirlwind.

¹⁷ I will scatter them as with an east wind before the enemy; I will show them the back, and not the face, in the day of their perdition.

¹⁵ Though he be fruitful among his brethren, the east wind shall come; the wind of the LORD shall come up from the wilderness, and his spring shall become dry, and his fountain shall be dried up; he shall spoil the treasure of all the vessels of desire.

³ The LORD is slow to anger and great in power and will not at all treat the guilty as though they were innocent; the LORD whose way is in the whirlwind and in the storm, and the clouds are the dust of his feet. ⁴ He reprehends the sea and makes it dry and dries up all the rivers; Bashan was destroyed, and Carmel; and the flower of Lebanon was destroyed. ⁵ The mountains quake at him, and the hills melt, and the earth is burned at his presence, and the world and all that dwell therein. ⁶ Who can stand before his indignation? and who can abide in the fierceness of his anger? his fury is poured out like fire, and the rocks are thrown down by him. ⁷ The LORD is good, a stronghold in the day of trouble; and he knows those that trust in him. ⁸ But with an overrunning flood he will make an utter end of his place, and darkness shall pursue his enemies.

²⁷ and the rain descended, and the rivers came, and the winds blew and beat upon that house, and it fell; and great was the fall of it.

¹⁴ For otherwise this time I will send all my plagues upon thine heart and upon thy slaves and upon thy people that thou may know that there is none like me in all the earth.

²⁵ and took off their chariot wheels and overturned them grievously, so that the Egyptians said, Let us flee from the face of Israel; for the LORD fights for them against the Egyptians. ²⁶ And the LORD said unto Moses, Stretch out thy hand over the sea that the waters may come again upon the Egyptians, upon their chariots, and upon their horsemen. ²⁷ And Moses stretched forth his hand over the sea, and the sea returned in its strength when the morning appeared; and the Egyptians fled against it; and the LORD overthrew the Egyptians in the midst of the sea. ²⁸ And the waters returned, and covered the chariots and the horsemen and all the host of Pharaoh that came into the sea after them; there remained not so much as one of them.

²⁰ The LORD will not forgive him, but then the anger of the LORD and his jealousy shall smoke against that man, and all the curses that are written in this book shall lie upon him, and the LORD shall blot out his name from under heaven.

²³ I will heap evils upon them; I will spend my arrows upon them.

¹¹ And when they were fleeing from before Israel in the descent to Bethhoron, the LORD cast down great stones from heaven upon them unto Azekah, and they died; there were more who died from the hailstones than those whom the sons of Israel slew with the sword.

¹⁷ ¶ And Sisera fled on foot to the tent of Jael, the wife of Heber the Kenite, for there was peace between Jabin, the king of Hazor, and the house of Heber the Kenite. ¹⁸ And Jael went out to meet Sisera and said unto him, Turn in, my lord, turn in to me; fear not. And when he had turned in unto her into the tent, she covered him with a thick coverlet. ¹⁹ And he said unto her, Give me, I pray thee, a little water to drink, for I am thirsty. And she opened a bottle of milk and gave him to drink and covered him again. ²⁰ Again he said unto her, Stand in the door of the tent, and if anyone should come and enquire of thee and say, Is there anyone here? Thou shalt say, No. ²¹ Then Jael, Heber’s wife, took the tent stake, and putting a hammer in her hand, went softly unto him and smote the stake into his temples and fastened it into the ground, for he was fast asleep and weary. So he died.

²⁴ He shall flee from the weapons of iron, and the bow of bronze shall strike him through.

³ And what will ye do in the day of visitation and in the desolation which shall come from far? To whom will ye flee for help and where will ye leave your glory?

¹⁴ And I will break them one against another, even the fathers with the sons together, saith the LORD; I will not pity nor spare nor have mercy to not destroy them.

¹¹ Therefore, as I live, said the Lord GOD, surely, because thou hast defiled my sanctuary with all thy contaminations and with all thine abominations, therefore I will also destroy thee; neither shall my eye forgive, neither will I have mercy.

⁵ ¶ And to the others he said in my hearing, Go after him through the city and smite; do not let your eye forgive, neither have mercy. ⁶ Slay the old, the young men, and the virgins, the children and the women, but do not come near anyone upon whom is the mark; and ye must begin from my sanctuary. Then they began with the men, the elders, which were in front of the temple.

¹⁴ I, the LORD, have spoken: I came and worked. I will not turn back, neither will I have mercy, neither will I repent; according to thy ways and according to thy doings, they shall judge thee, said the Lord GOD.

¹⁴ Therefore the flight shall perish from the swift, and the strong shall not strengthen his force, neither shall the mighty deliver his soul:

¹ ¶ I saw the Lord standing upon the altar, and he said, Smite the threshold and shake the doors and cut the head of them all into pieces; and I will slay the last of them with the sword; there shall be none of them left to flee away or to escape. ² Though they dig unto Sheol, from there shall my hand take them; though they climb up to heaven, from there I will bring them down; ³ and though they hide themselves in the top of Carmel, I will search and take them out of there; and though they hide from my sight in the bottom of the sea, from there will I command the serpent, and he shall bite them:

³² He that did not spare his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not also give us all things with him?

⁴ For if God did not forgive the angels that sinned, but cast them down into the deepest abyss {Gr. Tartarus} and delivered them into chains of darkness, to be reserved unto judgment; ⁵ and if he did not forgive the old world, but kept Noah, a preacher of righteousness, with seven other persons, bringing in the flood upon the world of the ungodly;

⁸ and at this house, which was high, any one that passes by it shall be astonished and shall hiss, and they shall say, Why has the LORD done thus unto this land and to this house?

²² as the days in which the Jews had rest from their enemies and the month which was turned unto them from sorrow to joy and from mourning into a good day, that they should make them days of banquet and joy and of sending portions one to another and gifts to the poor. ²³ And the Jews accepting this began to do as Mordecai had written unto them. ²⁴ Because Haman, the son of Hammedatha, the Agagite, the enemy of the Jews, had devised against the Jews to destroy them and had cast Pur, that is, the lot, to consume them and to destroy them, ²⁵ but when she came before the king, he commanded by letters that his wicked device, which he devised against the Jews, should return upon his own head and that he and his sons should be hanged on the gallows.

¹⁸ He shall be driven from the light into the darkness and chased out of the world.

¹⁰ ¶ When it goes well with the righteous, the city rejoices, and when the wicked perish, there are feasts.

⁸ And I will make this city desolate and a hissing; every one that passes thereby shall be astonished and hiss because of all its plagues.

¹⁵ Samech All that passed by clapped their hands over thee and whistled and wagged their heads over the daughter of Jerusalem, saying, Is this the city that men called The perfection of beauty, The joy of the whole earth?

¹⁶ For the statutes of Omri have been kept and all the works of the house of Ahab, and ye have walked in their counsels that I should make thee a desolation, and the inhabitants thereof a hissing: therefore ye shall bear the reproach of my people.

¹⁵ This is the rejoicing city that dwelt carelessly, that said in her heart, I am, and there is none beside me: how is she become a desolation, a place for beasts to lie down in! anyone that passes by her shall hiss and wag his hand.

²⁰ Rejoice over her, thou heaven, and ye saints, apostles, and prophets; for God has judged your cause upon her.
