¹ ¶ Surely there is a mine for the silver, and a place for gold where they refine it. ² Iron is taken out of the dust, and bronze is melted out of the stone. ³ He set a border unto the darkness, and unto every perfect work that he made, he placed a stone of darkness and shadow of death. ⁴ The river breaks forth next to the inhabitant; even the waters forgotten of the foot, that were higher than man, are gone away. ⁵ Land out of which bread comes forth, and underneath it shall be as if it were converted in fire. ⁶ A place where its stones shall be sapphires; and it shall have dust of gold. ⁷ A path which no fowl knows and which the vulture’s eye has never seen; ⁸ the young of the proud have not trodden it, nor has the fierce lion passed by it. ⁹ He put his hand upon the flint and overturned the mountains from the root. ¹⁰ He cut rivers out of the rocks; and his eye saw every precious thing. ¹¹ He detained the rivers in their source and caused that which was hid to be brought to light. ¹² But where shall wisdom be found? And where is the place of understanding? ¹³ Man never knew its price; neither is it found in the land of the living. ¹⁴ ¶ The deep saith, It is not in me; and the sea saith, It is not with me. ¹⁵ It cannot be gotten for gold, neither shall silver be weighed for its price. ¹⁶ It cannot be valued with the gold of Ophir, with the precious onyx or the sapphire. ¹⁷ Gold cannot equal it, nor can diamond; neither shall it be exchanged for vessels of fine gold. ¹⁸ No mention shall be made of coral, or of pearls; for wisdom is better than precious stones. ¹⁹ The emerald of Ethiopia shall not equal it, neither shall it be valued with pure gold. ²⁰ ¶ Where then does wisdom come from? And where is the place of understanding? ²¹ Seeing it is hid from the eyes of all living and kept concealed from every fowl of the heaven. ²² Hell and death say, We have heard its fame with our ears. ²³ God understands its way, and he alone knows its place. ²⁴ For he looks unto the ends of the earth and sees under the whole heaven, ²⁵ To make a weight for the wind and to supply water by measure, ²⁶ when he made a law for the rain, and a way for the lightning of the thunders. ²⁷ Then he saw it and counted it; he prepared it and also searched it out. ²⁸ And unto man he said, Behold, that the fear of the Lord, is wisdom; and to depart from evil is understanding.

¹¹ The name of the first is Pison; that is it which compasses the whole land of Havilah, where there is gold; ¹² and the gold of that land is good; there is bdellium and the onyx stone.

¹⁵ My lord, hearken unto me: the land is worth four hundred shekels of silver; what is that between me and thee? bury therefore thy dead.

²² And it came to pass as the camels had finished drinking that the man took a golden pendant of half a shekel weight and two bracelets for her hands of ten shekels weight of gold

⁴⁸ ¶ And Solomon made all the vessels that pertained unto the house of the LORD: an altar of gold, and a table upon which the showbread was, also of gold, ⁴⁹ and the lampstands of pure gold, five on the right hand, and five on the left, in front of the oracle, with the flowers and the lamps and the tongs of gold, ⁵⁰ likewise the bowls and the snuffers and the basins and the spoons and the censers of pure gold, also the hinges of gold, both for the doors of the inner house, the holy of holies, and for the doors of the house of the temple.

²¹ And all King Solomon’s drinking vessels were of gold, and likewise all the vessels of the house of the forest of Lebanon were of pure gold; there was no silver, for in the days of Solomon it was not esteemed.

² Now I have prepared with all my might for the house of my God, gold for the things of gold, and silver for the things of silver, and brass for the things of brass, and iron for the things of iron, and wood for the things of wood; onyx stones, and stones to be set, black stones and of different colours, and all manner of precious stones, and marble stones in abundance. ³ Moreover, because I have my delight in the house of my God, I have in my own treasury, gold and silver, which I have given to the house of my God, over and above all that I have prepared for the house of the sanctuary: ⁴ three thousand talents of gold, of the gold of Ophir, and seven thousand talents of refined silver, to overlay the walls of the houses; ⁵ the gold for things of gold, and the silver for things of silver, and for all manner of work to be made by the hands of the workmen. And who then is willing to consecrate the offering of his hands today unto the LORD?

⁶ The words of the LORD are pure words: as silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times.

³ ¶ The fining pot is for silver, and the furnace for gold, but the LORD tries the hearts.

²¹ ¶ As the fining pot tries the silver and the furnace the gold; so the man is tried by the mouth of whoever praises him.

¹⁰ Behold, I have refined thee, and not as silver; I have chosen thee in the furnace of affliction.

⁹ And I will put the third part into the fire and will refine them as silver is refined and will try them as gold is tried; He shall call on my name, and I will hear him; I will say, My people, and he shall say, The LORD is my God.

² But who may abide the time of his coming? and who shall stand when he appears? for he shall be like a refiner’s fire and like fullers’ soap: ³ And he shall sit to refine and to purify the silver: for he shall purify the sons of Levi and purge them as gold and silver that they may offer unto the LORD an offering in righteousness.

⁷ that the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold (which perishes, nevertheless it is tried with fire), might be found unto praise and glory and honour when Jesus, the Christ, is made manifest;

²² And Zillah also bore Tubalcain, an instructor of every artificer in brass and iron; and the sister of Tubalcain was Naamah.

²² certainly the gold and the silver, the brass, the iron, the tin, and the lead,

⁹ a land in which thou shalt eat bread without scarceness; thou shalt not lack any thing in it, a land whose stones are iron, and out of whose mountains thou may dig brass.

¹⁴ Now, behold, in my trouble I have prepared for the house of the LORD one hundred thousand talents of gold and a thousand thousand talents of silver, and the brass and iron are without weight, for it is in abundance. Likewise, I have prepared timber and stone, unto which thou shalt add.

²¹ before I go, to not return, to the land of darkness and of the shadow of death; ²² land of darkness, as darkness itself, and of the shadow of death, without any order, and where the light is as darkness.

²² He uncovers the depths of the darkness and brings out to light the shadow of death.

¹⁶ Hast thou entered into the springs of the sea? Or hast thou walked searching out the deep? ¹⁷ Have the gates of death been opened unto thee? Or hast thou seen the doors of the shadow of death?

⁴ if thou seekest her as silver and searchest for her as for hid treasures,

¹³ And I gave my heart to seek and search out by wisdom concerning all things that are done under heaven (this sore travail God has given to the sons of man that they be occupied in it).

¹³ Is this not of the LORD of the hosts? Therefore the peoples shall labour for the fire, and the Gentiles shall weary themselves in vain.

³³ But seek ye first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things shall be added unto you.

⁸ And the lord commended the unjust steward because he had done discreetly; for the sons of this age are in their generation more prudent than the sons of light.

¹¹ And God said, Let the earth bring forth green grass, herb yielding seed, and the fruit tree yielding fruit after its nature, whose seed is in itself upon the earth; and it was so. ¹² And the earth brought forth green grass and herb yielding seed after its kind and the tree yielding fruit whose seed was in itself, according to its nature; and God saw that it was good.

²⁹ ¶ And God said, Behold, I have given you every grass bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for food.

¹⁴ He causes the hay to grow for the cattle and grass for the service of man, that he may bring forth bread out of the earth ¹⁵ and wine that makes glad the heart of man, making his face to shine with oil and bread which sustains man’s heart.

²⁵ When he has levelled the face thereof, does he not cast abroad the fitches and scatter the cummin and cast in the principal wheat and the appointed barley and the rye in their place? ²⁶ For his God teaches him to know how to judge and instructs him. ²⁷ For the fitches are not threshed with a threshing instrument, neither is a cart wheel turned about upon the cummin; but the fitches are beaten out with a staff and the cummin with a rod. ²⁸ Grain is thrashed to make bread; but he will not ever be threshing it, nor shall he grind it with the wheel of his cart, nor crush it with the teeth of his thrashing instrument. ²⁹ This also comes forth from the LORD of the hosts to make his counsel wonderful, and to increase wisdom.

¹³ Thou hast been in Eden the garden of God; every precious stone was thy covering: the sardius, topaz, diamond, turquoise, onyx, and beryl, the sapphire, ruby, and emerald, and gold; the works of thy tambourines and of thy pipes were prepared in thee in the day that thou wast created. ¹⁴ Thou, great cherubim, wast covered, and I placed thee; thou wast in the holy mountain of God; thou hast walked among stones of fire.

¹⁰ and they saw the God of Israel; and there was under his feet as it were a paved work of a sapphire stone like unto the heaven when it is clear.

¹⁶ It cannot be valued with the gold of Ophir, with the precious onyx or the sapphire.

¹⁴ His hands are as gold rings set with beryls; his belly is as bright ivory overlaid with sapphires.

¹¹ ¶ O thou afflicted, tossed with tempest, and not comforted, behold, I will cement thy stones upon carbuncle and lay thy foundations upon sapphires.

¹⁹ And the foundations of the wall of the city were garnished with all manner of precious stones. The first foundation was jasper; the second, sapphire; the third, a chalcedony; the fourth, emerald;

⁶ and that he would show thee the secrets of wisdom! For thou dost deserve double according to sound wisdom; and thou dost know that God has forgotten thee because of thine iniquity.

¹⁹ Where is the way to the habitation of the light, and where is the place of the darkness?

²⁴ By what way is the light divided; from where is the east wind scattered upon the earth?

³³ ¶ O the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and of the knowledge of God! How incomprehensible are his judgments and his ways past finding out!

⁴ He reprehends the sea and makes it dry and dries up all the rivers; Bashan was destroyed, and Carmel; and the flower of Lebanon was destroyed. ⁵ The mountains quake at him, and the hills melt, and the earth is burned at his presence, and the world and all that dwell therein. ⁶ Who can stand before his indignation? and who can abide in the fierceness of his anger? his fury is poured out like fire, and the rocks are thrown down by him.

²³ ¶ In all labour there is fruit, but to talk and not do, brings poverty.

⁴ And by knowledge shall the chambers be filled with all precious and beautiful riches.

⁹ Thy bow was entirely uncovered, and the oaths unto the tribes, eternal word, when thou didst divide the earth with rivers.

⁸ He binds up the waters in his thick clouds; and the cloud is not rent under them.

²⁵ I have dug and drunk water; and with the sole of my feet shall I dry up all the rivers of sustenance.

²⁷ that says to the deep, Be dry, and I will dry up thy rivers

² I will go before thee and make the crooked places straight; I will break in pieces the gates of bronze and cut in sunder the bars of iron: ³ And I will give thee the hidden treasures and the well-guarded secrets that thou may know that I am the LORD, the God of Israel, who gives thee thy name.

⁵ Therefore, judge nothing before the time, until the Lord comes, who both will bring to light the hidden things of darkness and will make manifest the counsels of the hearts; and then shall each one have praise of God.

⁹ Give, therefore, thy slave a hearing heart to judge thy people that I may discern between good and evil, for who is able to govern this thy so great a people?

²⁰ ¶ Where then does wisdom come from? And where is the place of understanding?

²⁸ And unto man he said, Behold, that the fear of the Lord, is wisdom; and to depart from evil is understanding.

⁶ Behold, thou dost desire truth in the inward parts, and in the secret things thou hast made me to know wisdom.

⁴ if thou seekest her as silver and searchest for her as for hid treasures, ⁵ then shalt thou understand the fear of the LORD and find the knowledge of God. ⁶ For the LORD gives wisdom; out of his mouth comes knowledge and intelligence.

¹⁹ The LORD by wisdom has founded the earth; by intelligence has he established the heavens.

²³ ¶ All this I have proved by wisdom: I said, I will be wise, but it was far from me. ²⁴ That which has been is far off and that which is exceeding deep, who can find it out? ²⁵ I applied my heart to know and to search and to seek out wisdom and the reason of things, and to know the wickedness of folly and the madness of error;

¹⁹ For it is written, I will destroy the wisdom of the wise and will bring to nothing the understanding of the prudent. ²⁰ Where is the wise? where is the scribe? where is the philosopher of this world? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of this world?

³ in whom are hid all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.

⁵ And if any of you lacks wisdom, let them ask of God (who gives abundantly to all, and without reproach), and it shall be given them.

¹⁷ Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness neither shadow of turning.

¹⁰ More to be desired are they than gold, than much fine gold; sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb.

⁵ God shall likewise cast thee down for ever; he shall cut thee off and pluck thee out of thy dwelling place and root thee out of the land of the living. Selah.

⁷² ¶ The law of thy mouth is better unto me than thousands of gold and silver.

¹⁴ for the merchandise of it is better than the merchandise of silver and the fruits thereof more than fine gold. ¹⁵ She is more precious than precious stones, and all the things thou canst desire are not to be compared unto her.

¹¹ For wisdom is better than precious stones; and all the things that may be desired are not to be compared to it.

¹⁸ Riches and honour are with me, yea, durable riches and righteousness. ¹⁹ My fruit is better than gold, yea, than precious stones, and my revenue than choice silver.

¹⁶ ¶ How much better is it to acquire wisdom than gold! and to acquire understanding is worth more than silver!

²³ Buy the truth and sell it not, also wisdom and instruction and understanding.

¹⁶ Therefore I applied mine heart to know wisdom and to see the business that is done upon the earth (for also there is he that neither day nor night sees sleep with his eyes). ¹⁷ And I have seen regarding all the works of God that man cannot attain to understand the work that is being done under the sun, because though a man labours to seek it out, yet he shall not find it; even though the wise man says that he knows it, yet he shall not be able to attain it.

¹¹ I said, I shall not see JAH, even JAH, in the land of the living; I shall behold man no more with the inhabitants of the world.

⁸ He was taken from prison and from judgment; and who shall count his generation? for he was cut off out of the land of the living; for the rebellion of my people he was smitten.

⁴⁴ ¶ Again, the kingdom of the heavens is like unto treasure hid in the field, which when found, a man hides it and, for the joy thereof, goes and sells all that he has and buys that field. ⁴⁵ Again, the kingdom of the heavens is like unto a merchant man, seeking goodly pearls, ⁴⁶ who, when he had found one pearl of great price, went and sold all that he had and bought it.

³³ ¶ O the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and of the knowledge of God! How incomprehensible are his judgments and his ways past finding out! ³⁴ For who has understood the intent of the Lord? or who has been his counsellor?

¹⁸ No mention shall be made of coral, or of pearls; for wisdom is better than precious stones.

¹³ ¶ Blessed is the man that has found wisdom and who brings to light intelligence,

¹⁰ Receive my chastening and not silver, and knowledge rather than choice gold. ¹¹ For wisdom is better than precious stones; and all the things that may be desired are not to be compared to it.

¹⁷ I love those that love me, and those that seek me early shall find me.

¹⁹ My fruit is better than gold, yea, than precious stones, and my revenue than choice silver.

²⁰ And the fourth row a tarshish (or beryl) and an onyx and a jasper; they shall be set in gold in their inclosings.

⁴ three thousand talents of gold, of the gold of Ophir, and seven thousand talents of refined silver, to overlay the walls of the houses;

⁹ Kings’ daughters were among thy honourable women; the queen stands at thy right hand with a crown of gold from Ophir.

¹² I will make the noble man more precious than fine gold and man more than the gold of Ophir.

⁶ And before the throne there was a sea of glass like unto crystal, and in the midst of the throne and round about the throne were four animals full of eyes in front and behind.

¹¹ having the clarity of God; and her light was like unto a most precious stone, even like a jasper stone, shining like crystal.

¹⁶ Syria was thy merchant by reason of the multitude of the wares of thy making: they traded in thy fairs with rubies and purple and broidered work and fine linen and coral and pearls.

⁶ Give not that which is holy unto the dogs, neither cast ye your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under their feet and turn again and rend you.

⁹ ¶ In like manner also that the women adorn themselves in an honest manner, with shyness and modesty, not with ostentatious hair or gold or pearls or costly clothing

⁴ And the woman was arrayed in purple and scarlet colour and decked with gold and precious stones and pearls, having a golden cup in her hand full of abominations and of the filthiness of her fornication;

Even so no one has known the things of God, but the Spirit of God. ¹² Now we have not received the spirit of the world, but the Spirit which is of God, that we might know the things that God has given us. ¹³ Which things also we speak, not in the words which man’s wisdom teaches, but with doctrine of the Holy Spirit, jointly fitting spiritual things by spiritual means. ¹⁴ But the natural man does not perceive the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness unto him; neither can he understand them because they are spiritually discerned. ¹⁵ But he that is spiritual discerns all things, yet he is discerned by no one.

³ My mouth shall speak wisdom; and the meditation of my heart intelligence. ⁴ I will incline mine ear to a parable; I will declare my enigma upon the harp.

²⁵ ¶ At that time Jesus answered and said, I praise thee, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because thou hast hid these things from the wise and understanding and hast revealed them unto children.

¹⁷ For verily I say unto you, That many prophets and righteous men have desired to see those things which ye see and have not seen them and to hear those things which ye hear and have not heard them.

³⁵ that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, saying, I will open my mouth in parables; I will utter things which have been kept secret from the foundation of the world.

⁷ but we speak the wisdom of God in a mystery, even the hidden wisdom, which God predestined before the ages unto our glory, ⁸ which none of the princes of this age knew (for had they known it, they would never have crucified the Lord of glory). ⁹ But as it is written, That which eye has not seen nor ear heard neither has entered into the heart of man is that which God has prepared for those that love him. ¹⁰ But God has revealed this unto us by his Spirit, for the Spirit searches all things, even the deep things of God.

⁶ Sheol is naked before him, and hell has no covering.

¹⁰ who perished at Endor; they became as dung for the earth. ¹¹ Make them and their captains like Oreb and like Zeeb; all their princes as Zebah and as Zalmunna: ¹² Who have said, Let us inherit for ourselves the habitations of God.

⁷ ¶ The law of the LORD is perfect, converting the soul; the testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple.

⁵ Great is our Lord and of great power; his intelligence is infinite.

¹⁴ With me is counsel, and existence; I am understanding; strength belongs to me.

²² ¶ The LORD possessed me in the beginning of his way, before his works of old. ²³ I was set up with eternal dominion, from the beginning, before the earth was. ²⁴ I was begotten before the depths, before the existence of the fountains of many waters. ²⁵ Before the mountains were founded, before the hills was I begotten. ²⁶ While as yet he had not made the earth nor the fields nor the beginning of the dust of the world, ²⁷ when he composed the heavens, I was there. When he set a compass upon the face of the depth, ²⁸ when he established the clouds above, when he strengthened the fountains of the deep, ²⁹ when he gave to the sea his decree that the waters should not pass his commandment, when he appointed the foundations of the earth, ³⁰ I was with him ordering everything; I was his delight every day, being content before him at all times; ³¹ I am content in the circumference of his earth, and my contentment is with the sons of men.

²⁷ All things are delivered unto me of my Father, and no one has known the Son but the Father, neither has anyone known the Father except the Son and he unto whom the Son will reveal him.

²¹ In that same hour Jesus rejoiced in spirit and said, I thank thee, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that thou hast hid these things from the wise and prudent and hast revealed them unto babes; even so, Father; for so it seemed good in thy sight. ²² All things are delivered to me of my Father, and no one knows who the Son is, but the Father, and who the Father is, but the Son and he to whom the Son will reveal him.

¹⁸ Known unto God are all his works from the beginning of the world.

³⁰ But of him ye are reborn in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom and righteousness and sanctification and redemption,

²⁵ to the only wise God our Saviour, be glory and majesty, dominion and power, now and in all the ages. Amen.

⁹ For the eyes of the LORD run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to show himself strong in the behalf of those whose heart is perfect toward him. Herein thou hast done foolishly, for from now on thou shalt have wars.

¹³ The LORD looked from heaven; he saw all the sons of Adam. ¹⁴ From the place of his habitation he looked upon all the inhabitants of the earth.

³ ¶ The eyes of the LORD are in every place, beholding those who are evil and those who are good.

¹⁰ For who has despised the day of small beginnings? for they shall rejoice, and shall see the plummet in the hand of Zerubbabel. Those seven are the eyes of the LORD, which run to and fro through the whole earth.

⁶ ¶ And I saw, and, behold, in the midst of the throne and of the four animals and in the midst of the elders, stood a Lamb as it had been slain, having seven horns and seven eyes, which are the seven Spirits of God sent forth into all the earth.

¹⁵ Behold, he shall withhold the waters, and they shall dry up; also he shall send them forth, and they shall destroy the earth.

⁷ He who causes the clouds to ascend from the ends of the earth, made the lightnings in the rain; he who brings the winds out of his treasuries.

¹² ¶ Who has measured the waters in the hollow of his hand and prepared the heavens with his palm and with three fingers measured the dust of the earth and weighed the mountains in a balance and the hills with weights?

²⁶ Behold, God is great, and we know him not, neither can the number of his years be searched out.

³² With the clouds he covers the light and commands them to come against the light.

³ He shall place it straight under the whole of the heavens, and his light shall extend unto the ends of the earth.

¹¹ In addition to this, with clarity he wearies the thick clouds; and he scatters them with his light.

²⁵ ¶ Who has divided a watercourse for the overflowing of waters or a way for the lightning of thunder,

²⁷ to satisfy the desolate and waste ground and to cause the bud of the tender herb to spring forth?

³ The voice of the LORD is upon the waters: the God of glory thunders: the LORD is upon many waters. ⁴ The voice of the LORD is powerful; the voice of the LORD is full of majesty. ⁵ The voice of the LORD breaks the cedars; yea, the LORD broke the cedars of Lebanon. ⁶ And He made them skip like a calves; Lebanon and Sirion like the sons of the unicorns. ⁷ The voice of the LORD divides the flames of fire. ⁸ The voice of the LORD that shall shake the wilderness; the LORD shall shake the wilderness of Kadesh. ⁹ The voice of the LORD shall make the hinds to calve and shall uncover the forests: and in his temple every one speaks to his glory. ¹⁰ The LORD sits upon the flood; yea, the LORD sat down as King for ever.

⁸ fire and hail; snow and vapour; stormy wind fulfilling his word,

²² Are there any among the vanities of the Gentiles that can cause it to rain? or can the heavens give rain? art not thou he, O LORD our God? therefore we will wait upon thee, for thou hast made all these things.

⁷ And also I have withheld the rain from you when there were yet three months to the harvest, and I caused it to rain upon one city and caused it not to rain upon another city: one piece was rained upon, and the piece upon which it did not rain withered.

¹ ¶ Ask ye of the LORD rain in the time of the latter rain, so the LORD shall make lightnings and shall give you abundant rain and grass in the field to each one.

A Psalm of David. ¶ The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament shows the work of his hands.

²² ¶ The LORD possessed me in the beginning of his way, before his works of old. ²³ I was set up with eternal dominion, from the beginning, before the earth was. ²⁴ I was begotten before the depths, before the existence of the fountains of many waters. ²⁵ Before the mountains were founded, before the hills was I begotten. ²⁶ While as yet he had not made the earth nor the fields nor the beginning of the dust of the world, ²⁷ when he composed the heavens, I was there. When he set a compass upon the face of the depth, ²⁸ when he established the clouds above, when he strengthened the fountains of the deep, ²⁹ when he gave to the sea his decree that the waters should not pass his commandment, when he appointed the foundations of the earth,

⁶ Keep them, therefore, and do them, for this is your wisdom and your understanding in the sight of the peoples, who shall hear all these statutes and say, Surely this great nation is a wise and understanding people.

²⁹ The hidden things of the LORD our God are uncovered unto us and to our children for ever, that we may do all the words of this law.

¹⁴ Nun Depart from evil, and do good; seek peace, and pursue it.

⁷ ¶ The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and chastening.

⁷ ¶ Be not wise in thine own eyes; fear the LORD and depart from evil.

⁴ Unto you, O men, I call; and my voice is to the sons of men. ⁵ O ye simple, understand prudence; and, ye fools, be ye of an understanding heart.

²⁶ While as yet he had not made the earth nor the fields nor the beginning of the dust of the world, ²⁷ when he composed the heavens, I was there. When he set a compass upon the face of the depth, ²⁸ when he established the clouds above, when he strengthened the fountains of the deep, ²⁹ when he gave to the sea his decree that the waters should not pass his commandment, when he appointed the foundations of the earth, ³⁰ I was with him ordering everything; I was his delight every day, being content before him at all times; ³¹ I am content in the circumference of his earth, and my contentment is with the sons of men. ³² ¶ Now therefore hearken unto me, O ye sons; for blessed are those that keep my ways.

¹⁰ The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom, and the knowledge of the holy is understanding.

¹⁴ ¶ The law of the wise is a fountain of life, to depart from the snares of death.

¹⁷ ¶ The highway of the upright is to separate himself from evil; he that keeps his way preserves his soul.

¹³ ¶ The conclusion of the entire sermon is heard: Fear God and keep his commandments, for this is the whole happiness of man.

¹⁶ ¶ Wash yourselves, make yourselves clean; put away the evil of your doings from before my eyes; cease to do evil;

¹⁹ ¶ Nevertheless, the foundation of God stands sure, having this seal, The Lord knows those that are his. And, Let every one that names the name of Christ depart from iniquity.

¹³ ¶ Who is wise and ready among you? let him show out of a good conversation his works in meekness of wisdom. ¹⁴ But if ye have bitter envying and strife in your hearts, boast not and do not be liars against the truth. ¹⁵ This wisdom is not that which descends from above, but is earthly, natural, diabolical. ¹⁶ For where there is envy and contention, there is confusion and every perverse work. ¹⁷ But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, modest, benevolent, full of mercy and of good fruits, not judgmental, unfeigned.

¹¹ let him separate himself from evil and do good; let him seek peace and follow it.
