⁵ when the Almighty was yet with me, when my children were about me;

²⁷ The habitation of God is eternal, and underneath the everlasting arms; he shall thrust out the enemy from before thee and shall say, Destroy them. ²⁸ Then Israel, the fountain of Jacob, shall dwell in safety alone in a land of grain and wine; also his heavens shall drop down dew. ²⁹ Blessed art thou, O Israel, who is like unto thee, O people saved by the LORD, the shield of thy help and the sword of thy excellency? Thine enemies shall be found liars unto thee, and thou shalt tread upon their high places.

⁹ See that I command thee to be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed; for I, the LORD thy God, am with thee wherever thou goest.

¹² And the angel of the LORD appeared unto him and said unto him, The LORD is with thee, thou mighty man of valour. ¹³ And Gideon said unto him, Oh my Lord, if the LORD is with us, why then has all this befallen us? And where are all his miracles which our fathers told us of, saying, Did not the LORD bring us up from Egypt? But now the LORD has forsaken us and delivered us into the hands of the Midianites.

² And there were born unto him seven sons and three daughters. ³ His substance was seven thousand sheep, three thousand camels, five hundred yoke of oxen, five hundred she asses, and a very great store of servants, so that this man was the greatest of all the men of the east. ⁴ ¶ And his sons went and had banquets in their houses, each one on his day, and sent and called for their three sisters to eat and to drink with them. ⁵ And it was so, when the days of their banquets were over, that Job sent and sanctified them and rose up early in the morning and offered burnt offerings according to the number of them all; for Job said, It may be that my sons have sinned and blasphemed God in their hearts. Thus did Job continually.

³ Oh, that I knew where I might find him! That I might come even to his seat!

⁸ ¶ Behold, I shall go to the east and not find him; and to the west, but I cannot perceive him; ⁹ if he is working to the north, I shall not see him; to the south, he hides himself, that I shall not see him. ¹⁰ But he has known the way that I take; he has tried me, and I have come forth as gold.

¹³ He also had seven sons and three daughters. ¹⁴ And he called the name of the first, Jemima, and the name of the second, Kezia, and the name of the third, Kerenhappuch. ¹⁵ And in all the land no women were found as beautiful as the daughters of Job; and their father gave them inheritance among their brethren. ¹⁶ After this Job lived one hundred and forty years, and saw his sons, and his sons’ sons, even four generations.

⁷ LORD, by thy favour thou hast made my mountain to stand strong; thou didst hide thy face, and I was troubled.

² For thou art the God of my strength; why dost thou cast me off? Why do I go mourning because of the oppression of the enemy?

⁸ In God we boast all the day long and praise thy name for ever. Selah. ⁹ ¶ But thou hast cast us off and put us to shame and doth not go forth with our armies.

³ Behold, sons are a heritage of the LORD, and the fruit of the womb is to be desired. ⁴ As arrows in the hand of a mighty man, so are the young men. ⁵ Happy is the man that has filled his quiver with them: he shall not be ashamed when he speaks with the enemies in the gate.

³ Thy wife shall be as a fruitful vine by the sides of thy house; thy children like olive plants round about thy table.

⁶ ¶ Children’s children are the crown of old men, and the honour of the children are their fathers.

⁴ He brought me to the wine chamber and placed his banner of love over me.

¹ ¶ By night on my bed I sought him whom my soul loves; I sought him, but I did not find him. ² I will rise now and go about the city in the streets, and in the broad ways I will seek him whom my soul loves; I sought him, but I did not find him.

⁸ O the hope of Israel, the Keeper thereof in time of trouble, why should thou be as a stranger in the land and as a wayfaring man that turns aside to tarry for a night?

¹⁵ And Jesus said unto them, Can the sons of the bridechamber mourn, as long as the bridegroom is with them? But the days will come when the bridegroom shall be taken from them, and then they shall fast.
