¹ ¶ Moreover, the LORD answered Job and said, ² Shall he that contends with the Almighty instruct him? Let him that disputes with God answer this. ³ Then Job answered the LORD and said, ⁴ Behold, I am vile; what shall I answer thee? I will lay my hand over my mouth. ⁵ Once I have spoken; but I will not answer; even twice, but I will proceed no further. ⁶ ¶ Then the LORD answered Job out of the whirlwind and said, ⁷ Gird up thy loins now like a man; I will ask thee, and explain thou unto me. ⁸ Wilt thou disannul my judgment? Wilt thou condemn me, that thou may be justified? ⁹ Hast thou an arm like God? And canst thou thunder with a voice like him? ¹⁰ Deck thyself now with majesty and excellency; and array thyself with glory and beauty. ¹¹ Cast abroad the rage of thy wrath; and behold every one that is proud and bring him down. ¹² Look on every one that is proud, and bring him low; and tread down the wicked in their place. ¹³ Hide them in the dust together; and blindfold their faces in darkness. ¹⁴ Then I will also confess unto thee that thine own right hand can save thee. ¹⁵ ¶ Behold now behemoth, which I made with thee; he eats grass as an ox. ¹⁶ Behold now, his strength is in his loins, and his force is in the navel of his belly. ¹⁷ He moves his tail like a cedar; the sinews of his stones are wrapped together. ¹⁸ His bones are as strong as brass; his members are like bars of iron. ¹⁹ He is the beginning of the ways of God; he that made him shall make his sword draw near unto him. ²⁰ Surely the mountains bring him forth food, where all the beasts of the field play. ²¹ He shall lie down under the shade, in the covert of the reeds and of the damp places. ²² The shady trees cover him with their shadow; the willows of the brook compass him about. ²³ Behold, he shall drink up a river and not change; he trusts that he can draw up the Jordan into his mouth. ²⁴ His maker shall take him by the weakness of his eyes in a snare, and pierce through his nose.

¹ ¶ Then the LORD answered Job out of the whirlwind and said,

¹¹ ¶ Why did I not die from the womb? Why did I not give up the spirit when I came out of the belly? ¹² Why did the knees receive me? Of what use the breasts that I should suck?

²⁰ ¶ Why is light given to him that is in misery, and life unto the bitter in soul;

²³ to the man who does not know which way he goes and whom God has hedged in?

¹² Am I a sea, or a dragon, that thou settest a watch over me?

¹⁹ For how long wilt thou not depart from me, nor let me alone until I swallow down my spittle? ²⁰ If I have sinned, what shall I do unto thee, O thou preserver of men? Why hast thou set me as a mark against thee, so that I am a burden to myself? ²¹ And why dost thou not take away my rebellion and pass over my iniquity? For now I shall sleep in the dust; and if thou shalt seek me in the morning, I shall not be found.

³ If he desires to contend with him, he will not be able to answer him one thing of a thousand.

¹⁷ For he has broken me with a tempest and has multiplied my wounds without cause. ¹⁸ He will not suffer me to take my breath but has filled me with bitterness.

³² For he is not a man, as I am, that I should answer him, and we should come together unto judgment. ³³ Neither is there any arbiter between us, that might lay his hand upon us both. ³⁴ Let him take his tormentor away from me, and his terror will not perturb me. ³⁵ Then I would speak and not fear him, because in this state I am not myself.

³ Is it good unto thee that thou should oppress, that thou should reject the work of thine hands and shine upon the counsel of the wicked? ⁴ Hast thou eyes of flesh? Dost thou see as man sees? ⁵ Are thy days as the days of man? Are thy years as man’s days, ⁶ that thou dost enquire after my iniquity and search after my sin? ⁷ Thou knowest that I am not wicked; and there is no one that can deliver out of thy hand.

¹⁴ ¶ If I sinned, wilt thou mark me and not cleanse me from my iniquity? ¹⁵ If I am wicked, woe unto me; and if I am righteous, I will not lift up my head, being full of dishonour and of seeing my affliction. ¹⁶ And thou dost increase. Thou dost hunt me as a fierce lion; turning and doing marvels in me. ¹⁷ Thou dost renew thy plagues against me and increase thine indignation upon me, bringing up armies against me.

²¹ withdraw thy hand from me; and let not thy dread make me afraid. ²² Then call, and I will answer; or let me speak, and answer thou me. ²³ ¶ How many are my iniquities and sins? Make me to know my transgression and my sin. ²⁴ Why dost thou hide thy face, and hold me for thine enemy? ²⁵ Wilt thou break a leaf driven to and fro? Wilt thou pursue the dry stubble? ²⁶ Why dost thou write bitter things against me and make me carry the iniquities of my youth. ²⁷ Thou dost put my feet also in the stocks and look narrowly unto all my paths; thou dost set a print upon the heels of my feet.

¹⁶ ¶ For now thou dost number my steps; thou dost not open up my sin. ¹⁷ My transgression is sealed up in a bag, and thou dost sew up my iniquity.

¹¹ God has delivered me unto the liar, and in the hands of the wicked he has caused me to tremble. ¹² I was prosperous, but he has broken me asunder; he has taken me by my neck and shaken me to pieces and set me up for his mark. ¹³ His archers compassed me round about; he cleaved my kidneys asunder and did not spare; he poured out my gall upon the ground. ¹⁴ He broke me with breach upon breach; he ran upon me like a giant. ¹⁵ I have sewn sackcloth upon my skin and put dust over my head. ¹⁶ My face is foul with weeping, and on my eyelids is the shadow of death, ¹⁷ ¶ even though there is no injustice in my hands, and my prayer has been pure. ¹⁸ O earth, do not cover my blood; and let there be no place where my cry is hidden. ¹⁹ Certainly my witness is even now in the heavens, and my record is on high. ²⁰ Those who dispute with me are my friends, but my eyes shall pour out tears unto God. ²¹ O that a man might dispute with God, as he can with his neighbour!

⁶ know now that God has overthrown me and has compassed me with his net. ⁷ Behold, I shall cry out that I have been wronged, and I shall not be heard; I shall cry aloud, and there shall be no judgment. ⁸ ¶ He has walled off my way and I shall not pass, and he has set darkness in my paths. ⁹ He has stripped me of my glory and taken the crown from my head. ¹⁰ He has pulled me up on every side, and I am dried up; he has caused my hope to pass like an uprooted tree. ¹¹ He has kindled his wrath against me, and he counted me unto him as one of his enemies.

² As God lives, who has taken away my rights; and the Almighty, who has made my soul bitter,

²¹ Thou art become cruel to me; with the strength of thy hand thou dost hate me.

¹³ Why dost thou strive against him? For he will not answer all of thy words.

¹⁰ He that is has been named already; and it is known that he is man and that he shall not be able to contend with him that is mightier than he.

¹⁴ With whom took he counsel, and who instructed him? Who taught him in the path of judgment and taught him knowledge and showed unto him the way of intelligence?

⁹ Woe unto him that strives with his Maker! Let the potsherd strive with the potsherds of the earth. Shall the clay say to him that fashions it, What doth thou make; thy work has no form? ¹⁰ Woe unto him that says unto his father, Why dost thou beget? or to the woman, Why hast thou brought forth? ¹¹ ¶ Thus saith the LORD, the Holy One of Israel, and his Maker, Ask me of things to come; inquire of me concerning my sons and concerning the work of my hands.

⁸ He is near that justifies me; who will contend with me? let us stand together; who is my adversary? let him come near to me.

² What mean ye, that ye use this saying concerning the land of Israel, saying, The fathers have eaten sour grapes and the children’s teeth are set on edge?

¹¹ And when they had received it, they murmured against the husband of the house,

¹⁹ Thou wilt say then unto me, Why does he become angry? For who shall resist his will? ²⁰ Rather, O man, who art thou to reply against God? Shall the thing formed say to him that formed it, Why hast thou made me thus? ²¹ Has not the potter power over the clay, of the same lump to make one vessel unto honour and another unto dishonour? ²² What if God, desiring to show his wrath and to make his power known, endured with much meekness the vessels of wrath, prepared for death, ²³ and making known the riches of his glory on the vessels of mercy, which he has prepared unto glory?

³⁴ For who has understood the intent of the Lord? or who has been his counsellor? ³⁵ Or who has first given unto him, that it be recompensed unto him again? ³⁶ For of him and by him and in him are all things. To him be the glory for the ages. Amen.

¹⁶ For who has known the understanding of the Lord? Who has instructed him? But we have the understanding of Christ.

²² Shall we provoke the Lord to jealousy? are we stronger than he?

²⁷ And Abraham answered and said, Behold now, I have taken upon me to speak unto the Lord, who am but dust and ashes;

¹⁰ I am not worthy of the least of all the mercies and of all the truth which thou hast showed unto thy slave; for with my staff I passed over this Jordan and now I am become two bands.

¹⁹ And they said unto him, Silence, lay thy hand upon thy mouth and go with us to be our father and priest; is it better for thee to be a priest unto the house of one man or that thou be a priest unto a tribe and a family of Israel?

¹⁰ ¶ And David’s heart smote him after he had numbered the people. And David said unto the LORD, I have sinned greatly in having done this; but now, I beseech thee, O LORD, take away the iniquity of thy slave, for I have done very foolishly.

⁴ But he himself went a day’s journey into the wilderness and came and sat down under a juniper tree; and desiring to die, he said, It is enough; now, O LORD, take away my life, for I am not better than my fathers.

⁶ and said, O my God, I am confused and ashamed to lift up my face to thee, my God, for our iniquities have multiplied over our head, and our guiltiness is grown up unto heaven.

¹⁵ O LORD God of Israel, thou art righteous; for we have an escape, as it is this day, behold us here, before thee in our guiltiness; for we cannot stand before thee because of this.

³³ Howbeit thou art just in all that has come upon us; for thou hast done right, but we have done wickedly;

³¹ yet thou shalt plunge me into the pit, and my own clothes shall abhor me.

²¹ O that a man might dispute with God, as he can with his neighbour!

⁵ Look upon me and be astonished and lay your hand upon your mouth.

⁴ I would order judgment before him and fill my mouth with arguments. ⁵ I would know the words which he would answer me and understand what he would say unto me. ⁶ Will he plead against me with his great power? No, but rather he would put it in me. ⁷ There the righteous might dispute with him; and should I escape for ever from the one who condemns me.

⁹ The princes would refrain from talking and lay their hand on their mouth;

³⁷ I would declare unto him the number of my steps; as a prince I would go near unto him.

⁶ Therefore, I abhor myself and repent in dust and ashes.

⁹ I was dumb, I opened not my mouth because thou didst it.

⁴ Against thee, against thee only, have I sinned and done this evil in thy sight that thou be declared just in thy word and pure in thy judgment. ⁵ Behold, the pain of my iniquity has caused me to writhe; my mother conceived me so that sin might be removed from me.

³² If thou hast fallen, it is because thou hast lifted thyself up; and if thou hast thought evil, lay thine hand upon thy mouth.

⁵ ¶ Then I said, Woe is me! for I am dead because I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips; for mine eyes have seen the King, the LORD of the hosts.

⁶ All we like sheep have become lost; we have turned each one to his own way; and the LORD transposed in him the iniquity of us all.

⁶ ¶ But we were all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses as filthy rags; and we all fell as the leaves of a tree; and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away.

⁵ we have sinned, we have committed iniquity, we have done wickedly, and we have been rebels, and we have departed from thy commandments and from thy judgments.

⁷ O Lord, the righteousness belongs unto thee, but unto us the confusion of face, as at this day; to the men of Judah and to the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and unto all Israel, that are near and that are far off through all the lands where thou hast driven them because of their rebellion with which they have rebelled against thee.

¹⁶ The Gentiles shall see and be ashamed at all thy mighty acts: they shall lay their hand upon their mouth, their ears shall become deaf.

²⁰ But the LORD is in his holy temple: let all the earth keep silence before him.

¹³ Be silent, O all flesh, before the LORD, for he is raised up out of his holy habitation.

⁸ When Simon Peter saw it, he fell down on his knees before Jesus, saying, Depart from me, Lord, for I am a sinful man.

¹⁸ I will arise and go to my father and will say unto him, Father, I have sinned against heaven and before thee ¹⁹ and am no longer worthy to be called thy son; make me as one of thy hired servants.

¹³ And the publican, standing afar off, would not lift up so much as his eyes unto heaven, but smote upon his breast, saying, God, reconcile me, a sinner.

¹⁵ This is a faithful saying and worthy of acceptation by all, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am first.

¹⁰ Then the king of Israel sent to the place, which the man of God told him and warned him of and kept himself from there, not once nor twice.

¹⁵ Who even though I am righteous, yet I would not answer, but I would make supplication to my judge.

¹⁴ ¶ Nevertheless, in one or two manners God speaks to the one who does not see.

³¹ ¶ For it is of God to say, I have forgiven, I will no longer destroy. ³² Teach me that which I do not see; if I have done iniquity, I will do it no more.

¹¹ God has spoken once; twice have I heard this that power belongs unto God.

¹⁸ ¶ I have surely heard Ephraim bemoaning himself thus, Thou hast afflicted me, and I was chastised as an indomitable bullock: turn thou me, and I shall be turned; for thou art the LORD my God. ¹⁹ Surely after I was turned, I repented; and after I was instructed, I smote upon my thigh; I was ashamed, and even confounded, because I bore the reproach of my youth.

¹⁹ ¶ Now we know that all that the law says, it says to those who are under the law, that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may submit themselves unto God.

³ Our God shall come and shall not keep silence; a fire shall devour before him, and it shall be very tempestuous round about him. ⁴ He shall convocate the heavens of above, and the earth, that he may judge his people.

¹⁸ ¶ For ye are not come unto the mount that might be touched and that burned with fire nor unto blackness and darkness and tempest ¹⁹ and the sound of a trumpet and the voice of words, which voice those that heard intreated that the word should not be spoken to them any more; ²⁰ (for they could not endure that which was commanded, and if so much as a beast should touch the mountain, it shall be stoned or thrust through with a dart:

¹⁰ But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night, in which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements, burning, shall be dissolved, and the earth and the works that are in it shall be burned up. ¹¹ ¶ Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness, ¹² waiting for and desiring earnestly for the coming of the day of God, in which the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat?

²² Then call, and I will answer; or let me speak, and answer thou me.

³ Oh, that I knew where I might find him! That I might come even to his seat! ⁴ I would order judgment before him and fill my mouth with arguments.

³ Now gird up thy loins like a man; for I will enquire of thee, and answer thou me.

⁴ Hear, now, and I will speak; I will ask of thee, and thou shalt cause me to know.

² Then the wrath of Elihu, the son of Barachel, the Buzite, of the kindred of Ram, was kindled; against Job was his wrath kindled, because he justified himself rather than God.

⁵ For Job has said, I am righteous; and God has taken away my right. ⁶ In my judgment he was a liar, my arrow wound is grievous without my having committed a transgression.

² Dost thou think this to be right, when thou didst say, I am more righteous than God? ³ For thou didst say, What advantage will it be unto thee? And, What profit shall I have, if I am cleansed from my sin?

⁴ Against thee, against thee only, have I sinned and done this evil in thy sight that thou be declared just in thy word and pure in thy judgment.

²⁷ For the LORD of the hosts has purposed, and who shall disannul it? His hand is stretched out, and who shall turn it back?

¹⁸ And your covenant with death shall be disannulled, and your agreement with Sheol shall not stand; when the overflowing scourge shall pass through, then ye shall be trodden down by it.

⁴ No, in no wise: for God is true, and every man a liar; as it is written, That thou might be justified in thy words and might overcome when thou dost judge.

¹⁵ Brethren, (I speak after the manner of men) Even when a covenant is of man, once it is confirmed, no one cancels it or adds to it.

¹⁷ And this I say that regarding the covenant, that was confirmed before of God in Christ, the law, which was four hundred and thirty years after, cannot cancel it, that it should make the promise of no effect.

¹⁸ For there is verily a disannulling of the commandment going before for the weakness and unprofitableness of it;

⁶ Thy right hand, O LORD, is become glorious in power; thy right hand, O LORD, has dashed the enemy in pieces.

⁴ He is wise in heart and mighty in strength; who has hardened himself against him and remained in peace?

⁶ Will he plead against me with his great power? No, but rather he would put it in me.

¹² Behold, in this thou art not just; I will answer thee, that God is greater than man. ¹³ Why dost thou strive against him? For he will not answer all of thy words.

⁴ After it shall the sound roar; his valiant voice shall thunder; and he will not stay them even when his voice is heard. ⁵ God shall thunder marvelously with his voice; he does great things, which we cannot comprehend.

³ The voice of the LORD is upon the waters: the God of glory thunders: the LORD is upon many waters.

³ My heart was hot within me, while I was musing the fire burned; then I spoke with my tongue, ⁴ LORD, make me to know my end and the measure of my days, what it is that I may know how long I am to be of this world. ⁵ Behold, thou hast made my days as a handbreadth, and my age is as nothing before thee; verily every man that lives is altogether vanity. Selah. ⁶ Surely man walks in darkness; surely they are disquieted in vain; they heap up riches not knowing who shall gather them. ⁷ ¶ And now, Lord, what shall I wait for? My hope is in thee. ⁸ Deliver me from all my rebellions; do not make me the reproach of the foolish. ⁹ I was dumb, I opened not my mouth because thou didst it.

¹⁰ Thou hast broken Egypt in pieces as one that is slain; thou hast scattered thine enemies with thy strong arm.

¹³ The mighty arm is thine; strong is thy hand, and high is thy right hand.

⁹ Woe unto him that strives with his Maker! Let the potsherd strive with the potsherds of the earth. Shall the clay say to him that fashions it, What doth thou make; thy work has no form?

² And thou shalt make holy garments for Aaron, thy brother, for honour and for beauty.

¹¹ Thine, O LORD, is the greatness and the power and the glory and the victory and the honour, for all things in the heavens and in the earth are thine; thine is the kingdom, O LORD, and thou art exalted as head above all.

¹⁹ ¶ Hast thou given the horse strength? Hast thou clothed his neck with thunder?

⁵ His glory is great in thy saving health; honour and beauty hast thou laid upon him.

³ Gird thy sword upon thy thigh, O most valiant, with thy glory and thy majesty. ⁴ And in thy majesty be prospered; ride upon the word of truth and of humility and of righteousness; and thy right hand shall teach thee terrible things.

² Out of Zion, the perfection of beauty, God has shined forth.

¹⁶ Let thy work appear in thy slaves and thy glory upon their sons. ¹⁷ And let the beauty of the LORD our God be upon us, and set thou aright the work of our hands upon us; yea, set thou aright the work of our hands.

¹ ¶ The LORD reigns; he has clothed himself with majesty; the LORD has clothed himself with strength; he has girded himself: he has established the world also, that it cannot be moved.

¹ ¶ Bless the LORD, O my soul. O LORD my God, thou art very great; thou art clothed with honour and majesty, ² who dost cover thyself with light as with a garment, who stretchest out the heavens like a curtain,

⁴ For the LORD takes pleasure in his people; he will beautify the humble with saving health.

² ¶ In that day the branch of the LORD shall be for beauty and glory and the fruit of the earth for greatness and honour to those that are freed of Israel.

¹⁷ For he put on righteousness as a coat of mail, and a helmet of saving health upon his head; and he put on the garments of vengeance for clothing and was clad with zeal as a cloak,

¹³ And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil, for thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.

⁵⁴ So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the word that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory.

¹⁶ ¶ For we have not made known unto you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, following cunningly devised fables, but as eyewitnesses of his majesty. ¹⁷ For he received from God the Father honour and glory, when there came such a voice to him from the excellent glory, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.

²⁴ Now unto him that is powerful to keep you without sin and to present you faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy, ²⁵ to the only wise God our Saviour, be glory and majesty, dominion and power, now and in all the ages. Amen.

¹⁶ For in truth I have placed thee to declare my power in thee, and that my name may be declared throughout all the earth. ¹⁷ Thou even so dost exalt thyself against my people that thou wilt not let them go.

¹¹ Now I know that the LORD is greater than all gods; for in the thing in which they dealt proudly he prevailed against them.

²² For fire shall be kindled in my anger and shall burn unto the lowest part of Sheol and shall consume the earth with her fruit and burn up the foundations of the mountains.

²³ ¶ When he is about to fill his belly, God shall cast the fury of his wrath upon him and shall rain it upon him and upon his food.

²² For God shall cast down on him and not spare; he would attempt to flee out of his hand.

⁴⁹ He cast upon them the fierceness of his anger, wrath, and indignation and trouble by sending evil angels among them. ⁵⁰ He made a way to his anger; he did not spare their soul from death but gave their life over to the pestilence

⁶ Cast forth lightning and scatter them; shoot out thine arrows and destroy them.

¹¹ The lofty looks of man shall be humbled, and the haughtiness of men shall be bowed down, and the LORD alone shall be exalted in that day. ¹² For the day of the LORD of the hosts shall be upon every one that is proud and lofty and upon every one that is lifted up; and he shall be brought low:

¹⁷ And the loftiness of man shall be bowed down, and the haughtiness of men shall be made low; and the LORD alone shall be exalted in that day.

¹² Therefore it shall come to pass, that when the Lord has performed his whole work upon Mount Zion and on Jerusalem, I will come upon the fruit of the pride of the heart of the king of Assyria, and upon the glory of his high looks. ¹³ For he said, By the strength of my hand I have done it, and by my wisdom; for I have been prudent: and I have removed the boundaries of the peoples, and have robbed their treasures, and I have cast down as valiant ones those who were seated: ¹⁴ And my hand has found as a nest the riches of the peoples: and as one gathers eggs that are left, I have taken control over all the earth; and there was no one that moved the wing, or opened the mouth, or peeped. ¹⁵ Shall the axe boast itself against him that hews with it? or shall the saw magnify itself against him that moves it? as if the rod should rise up against those that lift it up, or as if the staff should lift itself up. Is it not wood? ¹⁶ Therefore shall the Lord, the LORD of the hosts, send among his fat ones leanness; and under his glory he shall kindle a burning like the burning of a fire. ¹⁷ And the light of Israel shall be for a fire, and his Holy One for a flame: and it shall burn and devour his thorns and his briers in one day; ¹⁸ and shall consume the glory of his forest and of his fruitful field, from the soul unto the flesh; and they shall come to be as a standard-bearer in defeat. ¹⁹ And the trees that shall remain in his forest shall be in number such that a child may count them.

²⁵ Therefore he has poured upon him the fury of his anger and the strength of battle; he put fire round about him, yet he was careless; and it set him on fire, yet he did not lay it to heart.

² Son of man, say unto the prince of Tyre, Thus hath the Lord GOD said: Because thy heart has lifted thee up and thou hast said, I am God, I sit in the seat of God, in the midst of the seas (yet thou art man, and not God); and thou hast set thine heart as the heart of God:

³⁷ Now I, Nebuchadnezzar, praise and build up and glorify the King of heaven because all his works are truth, and his ways judgment: and he is able to humble those that walk with arrogance.

²⁰ But when his heart made itself arrogant, and his spirit hardened itself in pride, he was deposed from the throne of his kingdom, and they took his glory from him: ²¹ and he was driven from among the sons of men; and his heart was put with the beasts, and his dwelling was with the wild asses: they made him eat grass like an ox, and his body was bathed with the dew of heaven until he understood that the most high God takes rule of the kingdom of men and that he appoints over it whomever he will. ²² And thou his son, O Belshazzar, hast not humbled thine heart, though thou knewest all this; ²³ but hast lifted up thyself against the Lord of heaven; and they have brought the vessels of his house before thee, and thou and thy princes, thy wives and thy concubines, have drunk wine in them; furthermore, thou hast praised gods of silver and of gold, of brass, of iron, of wood, and of stone, which do not see, nor hear, nor know; and the God in whose hand is thy soul and whose are all thy ways, thou hast never honoured.

³ The pride of thine heart hath deceived thee, thou that dwellest in the clefts of the rock, whose habitation is high; that saith in his heart, Who shall bring me down to the ground? ⁴ Though thou exalt thyself as the eagle and though thou set thy nest among the stars, from there I will bring thee down, said the LORD.

⁶ Who can stand before his indignation? and who can abide in the fierceness of his anger? his fury is poured out like fire, and the rocks are thrown down by him.

¹ ¶ For, behold, the day comes that shall burn as an oven; and all the proud, and all that do wickedly shall be stubble; and the day that comes shall burn them up, said the LORD of the hosts, that it shall leave them neither root nor branch.

¹⁴ I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other; for anyone that exalts himself shall be humbled, and he that humbles himself shall be exalted.

²² And the people gave a shout, saying, It is the voice of god, and not of man. ²³ And immediately the angel of the Lord smote him because he did not give God the glory, and he expired eaten of worms.

⁸ but unto those that are contentious and do not obey the truth, but are persuaded by unrighteousness, indignation and wrath. ⁹ Tribulation and anguish shall be upon every human soul that does evil, the Jew first and also the Greek;

⁶ But he gives greater grace. Therefore he says, God resists the proud, but gives grace unto the humble.

⁵ ¶ Likewise, young people, be subject to the elders in such a manner that you are all subject to one another. Be clothed with humility of will, for God resists the proud and gives grace to the humble. ⁶ Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time,

⁷ The LORD makes poor and makes rich; he brings low and lifts up.

²⁰ Do not desire the night, when he cuts people off in their place.

¹² Through God we shall do valiantly, for he it is that shall tread down our enemies.

²⁵ ¶ The LORD will destroy the house of the proud, but he will establish the inheritance of the widow.

³ If the clouds are full of rain, they shall empty themselves upon the earth; and if the tree falls toward the south or toward the north, in the place where the tree falls, there it shall remain.

⁶ I will send him against a hypocritical nation, and upon the people of my wrath will I send him to take spoil and to take prey and to ready them that they might be tread down like the mire of the streets.

¹¹ And I will visit evil upon the world and iniquity upon the wicked, and I will cause the arrogancy of the proud to cease and will lay low the haughtiness of the strong.

³ I have trodden the winepress alone; and of the peoples there was no one with me; for I have trodden them with my anger and have trampled them with my fury; and their blood sprinkled my garments and stained all my raiment.

⁵ ¶ And they shall be as mighty men, who tread down their enemies in the mire of the streets in the battle; and they shall fight because the LORD shall be with them, and the riders on horses shall be confounded.

³ And ye shall tread down the wicked; for they shall be ashes under the soles of your feet in the day that I make, said the LORD of the hosts.

²⁵ that he may take the lot or inheritance of this ministry and apostleship, from which Judas rebelled that he might go to his own place.

²⁰ And let the God of peace bruise Satan under your feet quickly. The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you. Amen.

⁸ Then the king returned out of the palace garden into the place of the banquet of wine, and Haman had fallen upon the bed upon which Esther was. Then said the king, Will he force the queen also before me in the house? When this word went out of the king’s mouth, they covered Haman’s face.

¹³ O that thou would hide me in Sheol, that thou would keep me covered until thy wrath is past, that thou would appoint me a set time and remember me!

¹³ But the hypocrites in heart shall irritate him more; they shall not cry out when he binds them.

¹⁴ Like sheep they are laid in Sheol; death shall feed on them, and the upright shall have dominion over them in the morning, and their beauty shall be consumed in the grave from their dwelling.

¹⁰ ¶ Enter into the rock, and hide thee in the dust from the terrible presence of the LORD and from the glory of his majesty.

⁴⁴ Then he that had been dead came forth, bound hand and foot with graveclothes, and his face was bound about with a napkin. Jesus said unto them, Loose him, and let him go.

³ For they did not get the land in inheritance by their own sword, neither did their own arm save them, but thy right hand and thine arm, and the light of thy countenance because thy delight was in them.

⁶ For I will not trust in my bow, neither shall my sword save me.

²⁹ He gives power to the faint; and to those that have no might he increases strength.

⁶ ¶ For the Christ, when we were yet weak, in his time died for the ungodly.

⁴ ¶ But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great charity with which he loved us, ⁵ even as we were dead in sins, he has made us alive together with the Christ (by whose grace ye are saved) ⁶ and has raised us up together and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus, ⁷ That in the ages to come he might show the exceeding riches of his grace in his kindness toward us in Christ Jesus. ⁸ For by grace are ye saved through faith and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God, ⁹ Not of works, lest any man should boast.

²⁴ ¶ And God said, Let the earth bring forth the living soul after its nature, beasts and serpents and animals of the earth after its nature; and it was so. ²⁵ And God made the beast of the earth after its kind and cattle after their kind and every thing that moves upon the earth after its kind; and God saw that it was good. ²⁶ ¶ And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness; and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the fowl of the air and over the beasts and over all the earth and over every serpent that moves upon the earth.

⁸ The range of the mountains is his pasture, and he searches after every green thing.

²⁰ Surely the mountains bring him forth food, where all the beasts of the field play.

¹⁴ He causes the hay to grow for the cattle and grass for the service of man, that he may bring forth bread out of the earth

²³ The failings of his flesh are joined together; his flesh is firm in him and does not move.

⁴ Because I know that thou art obstinate, and thy neck is an iron sinew, and thy brow bronze;

¹³ By his spirit he has adorned the heavens; his hand has formed the fleeing serpent.

³³ Upon earth there is not his like, who behaves without fear.

¹² If he does not turn, he will whet his sword; he has bent his bow and made it ready.

²⁴ O LORD, how manifold are thy works! in wisdom thou hast made them all; the earth is full of thy riches.

¹ ¶ In that day the LORD with his sore and great and strong sword shall visit punishment upon leviathan the fleeing serpent, and upon leviathan that serpent of double vision; and he shall slay the dragon that is in the sea.

¹⁵ ¶ Behold now behemoth, which I made with thee; he eats grass as an ox.

²⁶ There go the ships; there is that leviathan, whom thou didst make to play therein.

⁸ Who covers the heavens with clouds, who prepares the rain for the earth, who makes grass to grow upon the mountains. ⁹ He who gives the beast his food and to the sons of the ravens which cry unto him.

⁶ And they shall turn the rivers far away, and the brooks of defence shall be emptied and dried up; the reeds and flags shall wither. ⁷ The vegetables by the river, by the mouth of the river, and every thing sown beside the river shall dry up, wither away, and be no more.

⁷ The parched ground shall become a pool and the thirsty land springs of water; in the habitation of dragons, where each lay, shall be grass with reeds and rushes.

⁴⁰ And on the first day ye shall take branches with fruit of a beautiful tree, palm branches and the boughs of thick trees and willows of the brook; and ye shall rejoice before the LORD your God seven days.

⁷ Therefore that which each one has laid up and their riches they shall carry away to the brook of the willows.

⁵ He also took of the seed of the land and planted it in a fruitful field; he placed it by great waters and set it as a willow tree.

¹⁰ ¶ And Lot lifted up his eyes and beheld all the plain of the Jordan that it was well watered everywhere, before the LORD destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah, even as a garden of the LORD like the land of Egypt as thou comest unto Zoar.

¹⁵ when those that bore the ark entered into the Jordan, as soon as the feet of the priests that bore the ark were dipped in the brim of the water (for Jordan overflows all its banks all the time of harvest),

⁸ I would hasten my escape from the windy storm and tempest.

¹⁶ Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD, Behold, I lay in Zion for a foundation a stone, a tried stone, a precious corner stone, a sure foundation: he that believes shall not make haste.

²⁵ I have dug and drunk water; and with the sole of my feet shall I dry up all the rivers of sustenance.

¹ ¶ Canst thou draw out leviathan with a hook or with the cord which thou lettest down on his tongue? ² Canst thou put a hook into his nose or bore his jaw through with a thorn?
