⁷ ¶ Nevertheless I tell you the truth: It is expedient for you that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you.

¹⁸ Thou hast ascended on high, thou hast led captivity captive; thou hast received gifts for men, yea, for the rebellious also that the LORD God might dwell among them.

²⁵ But I tell you of a truth, many widows were in Israel in the days of Elijah, when the heaven was shut up three years and six months, when great famine was throughout all the land,

²⁷ But I tell you in truth, there are some standing here who shall not taste of death until they see the kingdom of God.

⁴⁹ And, behold, I shall send the promise of my Father upon you, but tarry ye in the city of Jerusalem until ye are endued with power from on high.

³⁹ (But this he spoke concerning the Spirit, which those that believe on him should receive, for the Holy Spirit was not yet given because Jesus was not yet glorified.)

⁴⁵ And because I tell you the truth, ye do not believe me. ⁴⁶ ¶ Which of you reproves me of sin? And if I say the truth, why do ye not believe me?

⁵⁰ nor consider that it is expedient for us that one man should die for the people, and not that the whole nation be lost. ⁵¹ And this he spoke not of himself; but being high priest that year, he prophesied that Jesus should die for the nation; ⁵² and not for that nation only, but that he should also gather together in one the sons of God that were scattered abroad.

³ And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and take you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.

¹⁶ and I will ask the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever, ¹⁷ even the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive because it does not see him, or know him; but ye know him, for he dwells with you and shall be in you.

²⁶ But the Comforter, which is the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all the things that I have said unto you.

²⁸ ¶ Ye have heard how I said unto you, I go away and come again unto you. If ye loved me, ye would rejoice because I said, I go unto the Father; for my Father is greater than I.

²⁶ ¶ But when the Comforter is come, whom I will send unto you from the Father, even the Spirit of truth, which proceeds from the Father, he shall testify of me;

⁴ and gathering them together, he commanded them that they should not depart from Jerusalem, but wait for the promise of the Father, Which, he said, ye have heard of me. ⁵ For John truly baptized in water, but ye shall be baptized in the Holy Spirit not many days from now.

³³ Therefore being raised up by the right hand of God and having received of the Father the promise of the Holy Spirit, he has poured out this which ye now see and hear.

³⁴ ¶ Then Peter opened his mouth and said, Of a truth I perceive that God is no respecter of persons;

²⁸ And we now know that unto those who love God, all things help them unto good, to those who according to the purpose are called to be saints.

¹⁷ For our tribulation, which is momentary and light, prepares an exceeding and eternal weight of glory unto us;

⁸ Therefore he saith, When he ascended up on high, he led captivity captive and gave gifts unto men. ⁹ (Now that he ascended, what is it but that he also descended first into the lower parts of the earth? ¹⁰ He that descended is the same also that ascended up far above all the heavens, that he might fulfill all things.) ¹¹ And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers, ¹² for the perfecting of the saints in the work of the ministry, unto the edifying of the body of the Christ ¹³ until we all come forth in the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the coming of age of the Christ:
