⁵² Tzaddi My enemies hunted me like a bird, without cause.

¹⁰ Behold, this day thine eyes have seen how that the LORD had delivered thee today into my hand in the cave, and some bade me kill thee, but I forgave thee, and I said, I will not put forth my hand against my lord, for he is the LORD’s anointed. ¹¹ Moreover, my father, see; see the skirt of thy robe is even in my hand, for in that I cut off the skirt of thy robe and did not kill thee, know thou and see that there is neither evil nor transgression in my hand, and I have not sinned against thee; yet thou doest hunt my life to take it. ¹² The LORD judge between me and thee, and the LORD avenge me of thee, but my hand shall not be upon thee. ¹³ As saith the proverb of the ancients, Wickedness proceeds from the wicked, but my hand shall not be upon thee. ¹⁴ After whom is the king of Israel come out? After whom dost thou pursue? After a dead dog? After a flea? ¹⁵ The LORD, therefore, shall judge, and he shall judge between me and thee. Let him see and plead my cause, and defend me from thy hand.

²⁸ I pray thee, forgive the trespass of thy handmaid, for the LORD will certainly make my lord a sure house because my lord fights the battles of the LORD, and evil has not been found in thee all thy days. ²⁹ Yet a man is risen to pursue thee and to seek thy soul, but the soul of my lord shall be bound in the bundle of life with the LORD thy God, and he shall hurl forth the souls of thine enemies as out of the middle of a sling.

¹⁸ And he said, Why does my lord thus pursue after his slave? What have I done? What evil is in my hand? ¹⁹ Now, therefore, I pray thee, let my lord the king hear the words of his slave. If the LORD has stirred thee up against me, let him smell the fragrance of an offering, but if they were the sons of men, let them be cursed before the LORD, for they have driven me out this day from joining myself to the inheritance of the LORD, saying, Go, serve other gods. ²⁰ Now therefore, do not let my blood fall to the earth before the face of the LORD, for the king of Israel is come out to seek a flea as when one hunts a partridge in the mountains.

A Psalm of David. ¶ I put my trust in the LORD put I: how say ye to my soul, Flee as a bird to your mountain?

⁷ For without cause they have hid their net for me in a pit, which without cause they have dug for my soul.

¹⁹ Let not those that are my enemies wrongfully rejoice over me; neither let those that hate me wink with the eye without a cause.

⁴ Those that hate me without a cause are more than the hairs of my head; those that would destroy me, being my enemies wrongfully, are mighty; then I restored that which I did not take away.

³ They compassed me about with words of hatred and fought against me without a cause.

¹⁶¹ ¶ SCHIN. Princes have persecuted me without a cause, but my heart stands in awe of thy words.

¹⁵ Therefore the princes were wroth with Jeremiah and smote him and put him in prison in the house of Jonathan the scribe; for they had made that the prison. ¹⁶ When Jeremiah was entered into the dungeon and into the cabins, and Jeremiah had remained there many days;

¹⁸ Moreover Jeremiah said unto king Zedekiah, In what have I sinned against thee or against thy slaves or against this people that ye have put me in prison?

⁴ Therefore the princes said unto the king, We beseech thee, let this man be put to death: for thus he weakens the hands of the men of war that remain in this city and the hands of all the people, in speaking such words unto them; for this man does not seek the peace of this people, but the hurt. ⁵ Then Zedekiah the king said, Behold, he is in your hand, for the king can not do any thing against you. ⁶ Then they took Jeremiah and cast him into the dungeon of Malchiah the son of Hammelech, that was in the court of the guard: and they let down Jeremiah with cords. And in the dungeon there was no water, but mire; so Jeremiah sunk in the mire.

²⁵ But this comes to pass that the word might be fulfilled that is written in their law, They hated me without a cause.
