¹ ¶ And he began again to teach by the sea side, and there was gathered unto him a great multitude, so that he entered into a ship and sat in the sea, and the whole multitude was by the sea on the land. ² And he taught them many things by parables and said unto them in his doctrine, ³ Hearken; Behold, the sower went out to sow; ⁴ and it came to pass as he sowed some fell by the way side, and the fowls of the air came and devoured it up. ⁵ And some fell on stony ground where it had not much earth, and immediately it sprang up because it had no depth of earth; ⁶ but when the sun was up, it was scorched, and because it had no root, it withered away. ⁷ And some fell among thorns, and the thorns grew up and choked it, and it yielded no fruit. ⁸ And other fell on good ground and did yield fruit that sprang up and increased and brought forth: some thirty and some sixty and some a hundred. ⁹ And he said unto them, He that has ears to hear, let him hear. ¹⁰ And when he was alone, those that were close to him with the twelve asked of him the parable. ¹¹ And he said unto them, Unto you it is given to know the mystery of the kingdom of God; but unto those that are without, all these things are done in parables, ¹² that seeing they may see and not perceive, and hearing they may hear and not understand, lest at any time they should be converted, and their sins should be forgiven them. ¹³ And he said unto them, Know ye not this parable? How then will ye understand all the parables? ¹⁴ The sower is he who sows the word. ¹⁵ And these are those by the way side, in whom the word is sown, but when they have heard, Satan comes and takes away the word that was sown in their hearts. ¹⁶ And likewise these are those who are sown on stony ground, who when they have heard the word immediately receive it with gladness ¹⁷ but have no root in themselves and are temporal; afterward, when tribulation or persecution arises for the word’s sake, immediately they are offended. ¹⁸ And these are those who are sown among thorns, such as hear the word, ¹⁹ and the cares of this world and the deceitfulness of riches and the lusts of other things entering in choke the word, and it becomes unfruitful. ²⁰ And these are those who are sown in good ground, such as hear the word and receive it and bring forth fruit: some thirtyfold, some sixty, and some a hundred. ²¹ ¶ And he also said unto them, Is the lamp brought to be put under the bushel or under the bed? and not to be set in the lampstand? ²² For there is nothing hid which shall not be manifested; nor secret which shall not be exposed. ²³ If anyone has ears to hear, let him hear. ²⁴ And he also said unto them, Take heed what ye hear; with the measure ye measure by, ye shall be measured by others, and unto you that hear shall more be added. ²⁵ For he that has, to him shall be given; and he that has not, from him shall be taken even that which he has. ²⁶ He also said, So is the kingdom of God, as if a man should cast seed into the ground ²⁷ and should sleep and rise night and day, and the seed should spring forth and grow up, he knows not how. ²⁸ For the earth brings forth fruit of herself: first the blade, then the ear, after that the full grain in the ear. ²⁹ But when the fruit is brought forth, immediately he puts in the sickle because the harvest is come. ³⁰ He also said, Whereunto shall we liken the kingdom of God? Or with what parable shall we compare it? ³¹ It is like a grain of mustard seed, which, when it is sown in the earth, is less than all the seeds that are in the earth; ³² but when it is sown, it grows up and becomes greater than all herbs and shoots out great branches, so that the fowls of the air may lodge under the shadow of it. ³³ And with many such parables he spoke the word unto them as they were able to hear it. ³⁴ But without a parable he did not speak unto them; and when they were alone, he expounded all things to his disciples. ³⁵ ¶ And that same day, when evening was come, he said unto them, Let us pass over unto the other side. ³⁶ And when they had sent away the multitude, they took him even as he was in the ship. And there were also with him other little ships. ³⁷ And there arose a great storm of wind, and the waves beat into the ship, so that it was now full. ³⁸ And he was in the hinder part of the ship, asleep on a pillow; and they awoke him and said unto him, Master, dost thou not care that we perish? ³⁹ And as he arose, he rebuked the wind and said unto the sea, Peace, be still. And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm. ⁴⁰ And he said unto them, Why are ye so fearful? How is it that ye have no faith? ⁴¹ And they feared exceedingly and said one to another, Who is this, that even the wind and the sea obey him?

¹³ ¶ And he went again unto the sea; and all the multitude resorted unto him, and he taught them.

⁷ But Jesus withdrew himself with his disciples to the sea, and a great multitude from Galilee followed him, and from Judaea

¹ ¶ And it came to pass that, as the people pressed upon him to hear the word of God, he stood by the lake of Gennesaret ² and saw two ships that were by the shore of the lake, but the fishermen were gone out of them and were washing their nets. ³ And he entered into one of the ships, which was Simon’s, and prayed him that he would thrust out a little from the land. And he sat down and taught the people out of the ship.

⁴ ¶ And when many people were gathered together and were come to him out of every city, he spoke by a parable: ⁵ A sower went out to sow his seed, and as he sowed, some fell along the way, and it was trodden down, and the fowls of the air devoured it. ⁶ And some fell upon the rock, and as soon as it was sprung up, it withered away because it lacked moisture. ⁷ And some fell among thorns, and the thorns sprang up with it and choked it. ⁸ And some fell on good ground and sprang up and bore fruit a hundredfold. And when he had said these things, he cried, He that has ears to hear, let him hear. ⁹ And his disciples asked him, saying, What might this parable be? ¹⁰ And he said, Unto you it is given to know the mysteries of the kingdom of God, but to the others in parables that seeing they might not see and hearing they might not understand.

⁴ I will incline mine ear to a parable; I will declare my enigma upon the harp.

² I will open my mouth in a parable; I will utter enigmas of old,

²⁸ And it came to pass, when Jesus had ended these words, the multitude marvelled at his doctrine;

³ And he spoke many things unto them in parables, saying, Behold, the sower went forth to sow;

¹⁰ Then the disciples came and said unto him, Why dost thou speak unto them in parables?

³⁴ Jesus spoke all these things unto the multitude in parables and said nothing unto them without parables ³⁵ that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, saying, I will open my mouth in parables; I will utter things which have been kept secret from the foundation of the world.

²³ And he called them unto him and said unto them in parables, How can Satan cast out Satan?

¹¹ And he said unto them, Unto you it is given to know the mystery of the kingdom of God; but unto those that are without, all these things are done in parables,

³³ And with many such parables he spoke the word unto them as they were able to hear it. ³⁴ But without a parable he did not speak unto them; and when they were alone, he expounded all things to his disciples.

³⁸ And he said unto them in his doctrine, Beware of the scribes, who love to go in long clothing and love the salutations in the marketplaces

¹⁶ Jesus answered them and said, My doctrine is not mine, but his that sent me. ¹⁷ If anyone desires to do his will, he shall know of the doctrine, whether it is of God or whether I speak of myself.

¹⁹ The high priest then asked Jesus of his disciples and of his doctrine.

¹ ¶ Now, therefore, hear, O Israel, the statutes and the rights which I teach you, for in doing them ye shall live and go in and inherit the land which the LORD God of your fathers gives you.

¹¹ ¶ Caph Come, ye children, hearken unto me; I will teach you the fear of the LORD.

¹⁰ ¶ Hearken, O daughter, and consider and incline thine ear; forget also thine own people, and thy father’s house;

²⁴ ¶ Hearken unto me now therefore, O ye sons, and attend to the words of my mouth.

³² ¶ Now therefore hearken unto me, O ye sons; for blessed are those that keep my ways.

⁶ In the morning sow thy seed, and in the evening withhold not thine hand; for thou knowest not which shall prosper, either this or that or whether they both shall be equally good.

²³ ¶ Give ye ear and hear my voice; hearken and hear my speech. ²⁴ Does the plowman plow all day to sow? does he open and break the clods of his ground? ²⁵ When he has levelled the face thereof, does he not cast abroad the fitches and scatter the cummin and cast in the principal wheat and the appointed barley and the rye in their place? ²⁶ For his God teaches him to know how to judge and instructs him.

³ Hearken unto me, O house of Jacob, and all the remnant of the house of Israel, which are borne by me from the belly, which are carried from the womb:

¹² Hearken unto me, ye hard of heart, that are far from righteousness;

¹ ¶ Ho, every one that thirsts, come ye to the waters, and he that has no money; come ye, buy, and eat; come, buy wine and milk without money and without price. ² Why do ye spend money for that which is not bread? and your labour for that which does not satisfy? Hearken diligently unto me, and eat ye that which is good, and let your soul delight itself in fatness.

²⁴ ¶ He put forth another parable unto them, saying, The kingdom of the heavens is likened unto a man who sows good seed in his field

²⁶ But when the blade was sprung up and brought forth fruit, then the tares appeared also.

⁹ And he said unto them, He that has ears to hear, let him hear.

¹⁴ The sower is he who sows the word.

²³ If anyone has ears to hear, let him hear.

³⁵ Do ye not say, There are yet four months and then comes harvest? Behold, I say unto you, Lift up your eyes and look on the fields, for they are white already to harvest. ³⁶ And he that reaps receives wages and gathers fruit unto eternal life, that both he that sows and he that reaps may rejoice together. ³⁷ And herein is that saying true, One sows and another reaps. ³⁸ I have sent you to reap that upon which ye bestowed no labour; others laboured, and ye have entered into their labours.

¹⁴ ¶ Then Peter, standing up with the eleven, lifted up his voice and said unto them, Ye men of Judaea and all ye that dwell in Jerusalem, be this known unto you and hearken to my words;

⁶ I have planted, Apollos watered, but God gave the increase. ⁷ So then neither is he that plants anything, neither he that waters, but God that gives the increase. ⁸ Now he that plants and he that waters are one although each one shall receive his own reward according to his own labour. ⁹ For we are labourers together with God; ye are God’s husbandry, ye are God’s building.

¹ ¶ Therefore, it is necessary that we with more diligence keep the things which we have heard, so that we do not fall. ² For if the word spoken by the ministry of angels was steadfast and every rebellion and disobedience received a just recompense of reward, ³ how shall we escape, if we belittle such great saving health? Which, having begun to be published by the Lord, has been confirmed unto us by those that heard him,

⁵ Hearken, my beloved brethren, Has not God chosen the poor of this world that they might be rich in faith and heirs of the kingdom which he has promised to those that love him?

⁷ He that has an ear let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the congregations {Gr. ekklesia – called out ones}; To him that overcomes I will give to eat of the tree of life, which is in the midst of the paradise of God.

¹¹ He that has an ear let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the congregations {Gr. ekklesia – called out ones}; He that overcomes shall not be hurt by the second death.

²⁹ He that has an ear let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the congregations {Gr. ekklesia – called out ones}.

¹¹ And when the fowls came down upon the carcases, Abram drove them away.

⁴ and when he sowed, some of the seed fell beside the way, and the fowls came and devoured them up.

¹⁹ When anyone hears the word of the kingdom and does not understand it, then the wicked one comes and catches away that which was sown in his heart. This is he who was planted beside the way.

¹⁵ And these are those by the way side, in whom the word is sown, but when they have heard, Satan comes and takes away the word that was sown in their hearts.

²⁶ And I will give you a new heart, and a new spirit will I put within you; and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you a heart of flesh.

¹² Sow yourselves unto righteousness, reap yourselves unto mercy; break up your fallow ground: for it is the time to seek the LORD until he comes and teaches you righteousness.

¹² Shall horses run upon the rocks? will one plow there with oxen? why have ye turned judgment into hemlock, and the fruit of righteousness into wormwood?

⁵ Some fell upon stony places, where they had not much earth; and forthwith they sprang up because they had no deepness of earth; ⁶ and when the sun was up, they were scorched; and because they had no root, they withered away.

²⁰ But he that was planted in stony places, the same is he that hears the word and receives it immediately with joy;

¹⁶ And likewise these are those who are sown on stony ground, who when they have heard the word immediately receive it with gladness ¹⁷ but have no root in themselves and are temporal; afterward, when tribulation or persecution arises for the word’s sake, immediately they are offended.

⁶ And some fell upon the rock, and as soon as it was sprung up, it withered away because it lacked moisture.

¹³ Those on the rock are those that when they hear, receive the word with joy, but these have no root, who for a while believe and in time of temptation fall away.

³ And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that brings forth its fruit in its season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatever he does shall prosper. ⁴ ¶ The ungodly are not so but are like the chaff which the wind drives away.

¹³ Those that are planted in the house of the LORD shall flourish in the courts of our God. ¹⁴ They shall still bring forth fruit in old age; they shall be vigorous and flourishing ¹⁵ to show that the LORD is upright; he is my rock, and there is no unrighteousness in him.

⁶ Do not look upon me because I am dark because the sun has looked upon me; my mother’s sons were angry with me; they made me the keeper of the vineyards, but I have not kept my own vineyard.

⁴ For thou hast been strength to the poor, strength to the needy in his distress, refuge from the storm, shadow from the heat, for the force of the violent is as a storm against the wall.

⁵ ¶ Thus hath the LORD said; Cursed be the man that trusts in man and makes flesh his arm and whose heart departs from the LORD. ⁶ For he shall be like the heath in the desert and shall not see when good comes, but shall inhabit the parched places in the wilderness, in a salt land and not inhabited. ⁷ Blessed is the man that is steadfast in the LORD and whose trust is the LORD. ⁸ For he shall be as a tree planted by the waters, that spreads out her roots by the river and shall not see when heat comes, but her leaf shall be green and shall not be fatigued in the year of drought, neither shall cease from yielding fruit.

⁸ And it came to pass, when the sun arose, that God prepared a vehement east wind; and the sun beat upon the head of Jonah that he fainted and wished in his soul to die and said, It is better for me to die than to live.

¹⁷ that the Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith, that ye, being rooted and grounded in charity,

⁷ rooted and built up in him and confirmed in the faith, as ye have been taught, abounding therein with thanksgiving.

¹⁰ and with all deception of iniquity working in those that perish because they did not receive the charity of the truth, to be saved.

¹¹ For the sun is no sooner risen with a burning heat, but it withers the grass, and its flower falls, and the beautiful appearance of it perishes: so also shall the rich man fade away in his ways. ¹² These are spots in your banquets of charity, feeding themselves without any fear whatsoever: clouds without water, carried to and fro of the winds; trees withered as in fall, without fruit, twice dead, plucked up by the roots;

¹⁶ They shall hunger no more neither thirst anymore; neither shall the sun be thrust upon them nor any other heat.

¹⁷ ¶ And unto Adam he said, Because thou hast hearkened unto the voice of thy wife and hast eaten of the tree of which I commanded thee, saying, Thou shalt not eat of it, cursed shall be the ground for thy sake; in sorrow shalt thou eat of it all the days of thy life; ¹⁸ thorns also and thistles shall it bring forth to thee; and thou shalt eat the grass of the field;

³ ¶ For thus has the LORD said to every man of Judah and of Jerusalem, Break up your fallow ground, and do not sow among thorns.

¹⁵ And he said unto them, Take heed and beware of all covetousness; for a man’s life consists not in the abundance of the things which he possesses.

³⁴ And take heed to yourselves, lest at any time your hearts be overcharged with excess and drunkenness and cares of this life, and so that day come upon you unawares.

⁹ For those that desire to be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and hurtful lusts which drown men in destruction and perdition. ¹⁰ For the love of money is the root of all evil, which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.

¹⁵ Love not the world neither the things that are in the world. If anyone loves the world, the charity of the Father is not in him. ¹⁶ For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh and the lust of the eyes and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.

¹² ¶ Then Isaac sowed in that land and received in the same year one hundred-fold, and the LORD blessed him.

¹ ¶ Cry aloud, do not hold back; lift up thy voice like a shofar and preach to my people their rebellion and to the house of Jacob their sin.

²⁹ Is not my word like as a fire? saith the LORD; and like a hammer that breaks the rock in pieces?

⁸ But some fell into good ground and brought forth fruit: one a hundredfold and another sixtyfold and another thirtyfold.

²³ But he that was planted in good ground is he that hears the word and understands it and who also bears the fruit and brings forth: one a hundredfold and another sixty and another thirty.

¹⁹ And this is the condemnation, that the light is come into the world, and men loved darkness more than the light because their deeds were evil. ²⁰ For every one that does evil hates the light, and does not come to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved. ²¹ But he that does truth comes to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God.

¹⁷ If anyone desires to do his will, he shall know of the doctrine, whether it is of God or whether I speak of myself.

⁵ I AM the vine, ye are the branches: he that abides in me, and I in him, the same brings forth much fruit; for without me ye can do nothing.

¹¹ These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all diligence and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so.

¹¹ being filled with fruits of righteousness, which are by Jesus Christ, unto the glory and praise of God.

⁶ which is come unto you, as it is in all the world, and brings forth fruit, as it does also in you, since the day ye heard it and knew the grace of God in truth,

¹ ¶ Let us, therefore, fear, lest a promise being left us of entering into his rest, any of you should seem to come short of it. ² For unto us was the gospel preached, as well as unto them, but it did not profit those that heard the word without mixing it with faith.

¹⁹ ¶ Therefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be quick to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath; ²⁰ for the wrath of man does not work the righteousness of God. ²¹ So then, leave all uncleanness and remains of malice and receive with meekness the word ingested within you, which is able to cause your souls to be saved. ²² But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.

¹ ¶ Having therefore left all malice and all guile and hypocrisies and envies and all murmurings, ² as newborn babes, desire the rational milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby in health; ³ if so be ye have tasted that the Lord is benevolent;

³⁴ But without a parable he did not speak unto them; and when they were alone, he expounded all things to his disciples.

¹⁷ And when he was entered into the house from the people, his disciples asked him concerning the parable.

⁹ And his disciples asked him, saying, What might this parable be? ¹⁰ And he said, Unto you it is given to know the mysteries of the kingdom of God, but to the others in parables that seeing they might not see and hearing they might not understand. ¹¹ Now the parable is this: The seed is the word of God. ¹² Those along the way are those that hear; then comes the devil and takes away the word out of their hearts, lest they should believe and be saved. ¹³ Those on the rock are those that when they hear, receive the word with joy, but these have no root, who for a while believe and in time of temptation fall away. ¹⁴ And that which fell among thorns are those who when they have heard go forth and are choked with cares and riches and pleasures of this life and bring no fruit to perfection. ¹⁵ But that on the good ground are those who in an honest and good heart, having heard the word, keep it and bring forth fruit with patience.

²⁵ ¶ At that time Jesus answered and said, I praise thee, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because thou hast hid these things from the wise and understanding and hast revealed them unto children.

¹¹ He answered and said unto them, Because it is given unto you to know the mysteries of the kingdom of the heavens, but to them it is not given. ¹² For whosoever has, to him shall be given, and he shall have in abundance; but whosoever has not, from him shall be taken away even that which he has. ¹³ Therefore, I speak to them in parables because seeing they see not, and hearing they hear not, neither do they understand.

¹⁶ But blessed are your eyes, for they see, and your ears, for they hear.

¹⁷ And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon son of Jonah, for flesh and blood has not revealed it unto thee, but my Father who is in the heavens.

¹⁰ And he said, Unto you it is given to know the mysteries of the kingdom of God, but to the others in parables that seeing they might not see and hearing they might not understand.

²¹ In that same hour Jesus rejoiced in spirit and said, I thank thee, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that thou hast hid these things from the wise and prudent and hast revealed them unto babes; even so, Father; for so it seemed good in thy sight. ²² All things are delivered to me of my Father, and no one knows who the Son is, but the Father, and who the Father is, but the Son and he to whom the Son will reveal him. ²³ And he turned him unto his disciples and said privately, Blessed are the eyes which see the things that ye see, ²⁴ for I tell you that many prophets and kings desired to see those things which ye see and did not see them and to hear those things which ye hear and did not hear them.

⁷ ¶ For who makes thee to judge? and what hast thou that thou didst not receive? now if thou didst receive it, what dost thou glory of, as if thou hadst not received it?

¹² For why shall I judge those that are without? do ye not judge those that are within? ¹³ But those that are without, God shall judge. Therefore, put away from among yourselves that wicked person.

⁶ For the God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, has shined in our hearts to bring forth the light of the knowledge of the clarity of God in the face of Jesus Christ.

⁹ having made known unto us the mystery of his will, according to his good pleasure which he has purposed in himself,

⁴ ¶ But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great charity with which he loved us, ⁵ even as we were dead in sins, he has made us alive together with the Christ (by whose grace ye are saved) ⁶ and has raised us up together and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus, ⁷ That in the ages to come he might show the exceeding riches of his grace in his kindness toward us in Christ Jesus. ⁸ For by grace are ye saved through faith and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God, ⁹ Not of works, lest any man should boast. ¹⁰ For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God has prepared that we should walk in them.

⁵ ¶ Walk in wisdom towards outsiders, winning the occasion.

¹² that ye may walk honestly toward those that are without, and that ye may desire nothing from any one.

⁷ Moreover he must have a good report of those who are outside lest he fall into reproach and the snare of the devil.

³ For we ourselves also were foolish in another time, rebellious, deceived, serving diverse lusts and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful, and hating one another. ⁴ But after that the kindness and love of God our Saviour toward man appeared, ⁵ not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Spirit, ⁶ which he poured out abundantly in us through Jesus, the Christ, our Saviour; ⁷ that being justified by his grace, we should be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life.

¹⁶ Do not err, my beloved brethren. ¹⁷ Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness neither shadow of turning. ¹⁸ He, of his own will, has begotten us with the word of truth, that we should be the firstfruits of his creatures.

²⁰ But we know that the Son of God is come and has given us understanding, that we may know him that is true, and we are in him that is true, even in his Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God and eternal life.

⁴ Yet the LORD has not given you a heart to perceive and eyes to see and ears to hear until today.

⁹ ¶ Then he said, Go and tell this people, Hear indeed, but do not understand; and see indeed, but do not perceive. ¹⁰ Make the heart of this people fat and make their ears heavy and blind their eyes that they not see with their eyes, nor hear with their ears, nor understand with their heart, nor convert and there be healing for him.

¹⁸ They did not know nor understand; for he has anointed their eyes that they not see and their hearts that they not understand.

²¹ Hear now this, O foolish people and without heart, who have eyes and do not see; who have ears, and do not hear:

¹⁸ ¶ I have surely heard Ephraim bemoaning himself thus, Thou hast afflicted me, and I was chastised as an indomitable bullock: turn thou me, and I shall be turned; for thou art the LORD my God. ¹⁹ Surely after I was turned, I repented; and after I was instructed, I smote upon my thigh; I was ashamed, and even confounded, because I bore the reproach of my youth. ²⁰ Peradventure is Ephraim a precious son unto me? Peradventure is he unto me a delightful child? With all this since I spoke of him, I have remembered him constantly. Therefore my bowels are troubled for him; in tenderness I will surely have mercy upon him, saith the LORD.

² Son of man, thou dwellest in the midst of a rebellious house, which have eyes to see and do not see; they have ears to hear and do not hear; for they are a rebellious house.

²⁷ Again, when the wicked man leaves his wickedness that he has committed and lives according to judgment and righteousness, he shall cause his soul to live. ²⁸ Because he saw and left all his rebellions that he has committed, he shall surely live; he shall not die. ²⁹ If even now the house of Israel should say, The way of the Lord is not straight. O house of Israel, are not my ways straight? Certainly your ways are not straight. ³⁰ ¶ Therefore I will judge you, O house of Israel, each one according to his ways, said the Lord GOD. Repent and turn yourselves from all your iniquities, so iniquity shall not be your ruin. ³¹ Cast away from you all your iniquities by which ye have rebelled, and make yourselves a new heart and a new spirit; for why will ye die, O house of Israel? ³² For I do not desire the death of him that dies, said the Lord GOD; therefore turn yourselves, and ye shall live.

³⁷ ¶ But although he had done so many signs before them, yet they did not believe in him, ³⁸ that the word of Isaiah the prophet might be fulfilled, which he spoke, Lord, who shall believe our report? and to whom has the arm of the Lord been revealed? ³⁹ Therefore they could not believe, because Isaiah said again, ⁴⁰ He has blinded their eyes and hardened their heart, that they should not see with their eyes nor understand with their heart and be converted, and I should heal them. ⁴¹ Isaiah said these things when he saw his glory and spoke of him.

¹⁹ Repent ye therefore and be converted that your sins may be blotted out, for the times of refreshing of the presence of the Lord are come;

²⁵ And when they did not agree among themselves, they departed, after Paul had spoken this word, Well spoke the Holy Spirit by Isaiah the prophet unto our fathers, ²⁶ saying, Go unto this people, and say, Hearing ye shall hear and shall not understand; and seeing ye shall see and not perceive; ²⁷ for the heart of this people is waxed gross, and their ears are dull of hearing, and their eyes have they closed; lest they should see with their eyes and hear with their ears and understand with their heart and should be converted and I should heal them.

⁸ (according as it is written, God has given them the spirit of anguish, eyes with which they do not see and ears with which they do not hear) unto this day. ⁹ And David says, Let their table be turned into a snare and a net and a stumblingblock and a recompense unto them; ¹⁰ Let their eyes be darkened that they may not see, and bow down their back always.

²⁵ that with meekness they might teach those that resist, if God peradventure will grant unto them that they might repent and know the truth,

⁶ and have backslidden, be renewed again by repentance, crucifying again for themselves the Son of God and putting him to an open shame.

¹⁸ Hear ye therefore the parable of the sower. ¹⁹ When anyone hears the word of the kingdom and does not understand it, then the wicked one comes and catches away that which was sown in his heart. This is he who was planted beside the way. ²⁰ But he that was planted in stony places, the same is he that hears the word and receives it immediately with joy; ²¹ yet he has no root in himself but is temporal, for when affliction or persecution arises because of the word, by and by he is offended. ²² And he that was planted among the thorns is he that hears the word, and the cares of this world and the deceitfulness of riches choke the word, and he becomes unfruitful. ²³ But he that was planted in good ground is he that hears the word and understands it and who also bears the fruit and brings forth: one a hundredfold and another sixty and another thirty.

⁵¹ Jesus said unto them, Have ye understood all these things? They answered unto him, Yes, Lord. ⁵² And he said unto them, Therefore every scribe who is instructed in the kingdom of the heavens is like unto a man, a husband of a house, who brings forth out of his treasure things new and old.

¹⁵ Then Peter answered and said unto him, Declare unto us this parable. ¹⁶ And Jesus said, Are ye also yet without understanding? ¹⁷ Do not ye yet understand that whatever enters in at the mouth goes into the belly and is cast out into the draught?

⁸ Which when Jesus perceived, he said unto them, O ye of little faith, why reason ye among yourselves that ye have brought no bread? ⁹ Do ye not yet understand, neither remember the five loaves of the five thousand, and how many baskets ye took up?

¹⁷ And when he was entered into the house from the people, his disciples asked him concerning the parable. ¹⁸ And he said unto them, Are ye so without understanding also? Do ye not understand that anything from outside that enters into the man cannot defile him?

²⁵ Then he said unto them, O fools, and slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken;

¹ ¶ And I, brothers, could not speak unto you as unto spiritual, but as unto carnal, even as unto babes in Christ. ² I have fed you with milk, and not with solid food, for until now ye were not able to bear it, neither yet now are ye able.

¹¹ Of whom we have many things to say and difficult to declare, seeing ye are hard of hearing. ¹² For you should now be teaching others, if we look at the time, yet you need to be taught again which are the first elements of the oracles of God and are become such as have need of milk, and not of strong food. ¹³ For any one that uses milk is not qualified in the word of righteousness, for he is a babe. ¹⁴ But strong food belongs to those that are perfect, even those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.

¹⁹ As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten; be zealous therefore, and repent.

²⁰ Blessed are ye that sow upon all waters, ye that plow with the ox and with the ass.

³⁷ He answered and said unto them, He that sows the good seed is the Son of man;

² And soon many were gathered together, insomuch that there was no room to receive them, no, not so much as about the door; and he preached the word unto them.

² even as those who were eyewitnesses from the beginning taught us and thus were ministers of the word,

¹¹ Now the parable is this: The seed is the word of God.

⁴ ¶ But those that were scattered abroad went everywhere preaching the word of the gospel.

⁵ for the hope which is laid up for you in the heavens, of which ye have already heard by the word of the truth of the gospel, ⁶ which is come unto you, as it is in all the world, and brings forth fruit, as it does also in you, since the day ye heard it and knew the grace of God in truth,

²³ being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which lives and abides for ever. ²⁴ ¶ For all flesh is as grass, and all the glory of man as the flower of grass. The grass withers, and its flower falls away, ²⁵ but the word of the Lord endures for ever. And this is the word which by the gospel is preached unto you.

¹⁴ And Lot went out and spoke unto his sons-in-law, those who were to marry his daughters, and said, Up, get you out of this place; for the LORD will destroy this city. But he seemed as one that mocked unto his sons-in-law.

⁶ ¶ Now there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the LORD, and Satan came also among them. ⁷ And the LORD said unto Satan, Where dost thou come from? Then Satan answered the LORD and said, From going to and fro in the earth and from walking up and down in it. ⁸ And the LORD said unto Satan, Hast thou considered my slave Job, that there is none like him in the earth, a perfect and an upright man, one that fears God and has departed from evil? ⁹ Then Satan answered the LORD and said, Does Job fear God for nothing? ¹⁰ Hast thou not made a hedge about him and about his house and about all that he has on every side? Thou hast blessed the work of his hands; therefore, his substance has increased in the land. ¹¹ But put forth thy hand now and touch all that he has, and thou shalt see if he will not blaspheme thee to thy face. ¹² And the LORD said to Satan, Behold, all that he has is in thy power; only upon himself do not put forth thy hand. So Satan went forth from the presence of the LORD.

¹ ¶ Who shall believe our report? and upon whom shall the arm of the LORD be manifested?

¹ ¶ And he showed me Joshua the high priest, standing before the angel of the LORD, and Satan standing at his right hand to resist him.

¹⁰ Then Jesus said unto him, Get thee hence, Satan, for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.

⁵ But they made light of it and went their ways, one to his farm, another to his merchandise,

⁴ and it came to pass as he sowed some fell by the way side, and the fowls of the air came and devoured it up.

¹⁸ And they all with one consent began to make excuse. The first said unto him, I have bought a field, and I have need to go and see it; I pray thee have me excused. ¹⁹ And another said, I have bought five yoke of oxen, and I go to prove them; I pray thee have me excused.

³ But Peter said, Ananias, why has Satan filled thy heart to lie to the Holy Spirit and to defraud of the price of the land?

¹⁸ Then certain philosophers of the Epicureans and of the Stoics encountered him. And some said, What will this babbler say? others, He seems to be a setter forth of new gods, because he preached unto them Jesus and the resurrection. ¹⁹ And they took him and brought him unto the Areopagus, saying, May we know what this new doctrine is, of which thou speakest? ²⁰ For thou bringest certain new things to our ears; we desire, therefore, to know what these things mean.

³² ¶ And when they heard of the resurrection of the dead, some mocked; and others said, We will hear thee again of this matter.

¹⁴ And when Paul was now about to open his mouth, Gallio said unto the Jews, If it were a matter of wrong or wicked lewdness, O ye Jews, reason would that I should bear with you; ¹⁵ but if it is a question of words and names and of your law, look ye to it, for I will be no judge of such matters. ¹⁶ And he drove them from the judgment seat. ¹⁷ Then all the Greeks took Sosthenes, the chief ruler of the synagogue, and beat him before the judgment seat. And Gallio cared for none of those things.

¹⁹ but had certain questions against him of their own superstition, and of one Jesus, who was dead, whom Paul affirmed to be alive. ²⁰ And because I doubted of such manner of questions, I asked him whether he would go to Jerusalem and there be judged of these matters.

³¹ and when they were gone aside, they talked between themselves, saying, This man does nothing worthy of death or of bonds. ³² Then Agrippa said unto Festus, This man might have been set at liberty if he had not appealed unto Caesar.

¹¹ lest Satan should deceive us, for we do not ignore his devices.

³ But if our gospel is hid, it is hid to those that are lost, ⁴ In whom the god of this age has blinded the understanding of those who do not believe, that the light of the gospel of the glory of the Christ, who is the image of God, should not shine in them.

⁹ that wicked one, who shall come by the working of Satan with great power and signs and lying miracles,

¹ ¶ Therefore, it is necessary that we with more diligence keep the things which we have heard, so that we do not fall.

¹⁶ lest there be any fornicator or profane person as Esau, who for one morsel of food sold his birthright.

⁸ ¶ Be temperate and vigilant because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walks about, seeking whom he may devour,

⁹ And the great dragon was cast out, the serpent of old, who is called Devil and the Satan, who deceives the whole world; he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him.

² And he laid hold on the dragon, the serpent of old, which is the Devil and Satan and bound him a thousand years ³ and cast him into the bottomless pit and shut him up and set a seal upon it, that he should deceive the Gentiles no more, until the thousand years should be fulfilled; and after it is necessary that he be loosed a little while.

⁷ And when the thousand years are expired, Satan shall be loosed out of his prison

¹⁰ And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are, and they shall be tormented day and night for ever and ever.

³¹ And they shall come unto thee as the people come, and they shall be before thee, my people, and they shall hear thy words, but they shall not do them; for with their mouth they flatter, but their heart goes after their covetousness. ³² And, behold, thou art unto them as a singer of love songs, one that has a good voice and can sing well: and they shall hear thy words, but they will not do them.

¹⁹ And a certain scribe came and said unto him, Master, I will follow thee wherever thou goest. ²⁰ And Jesus said unto him, The foxes have holes, and the birds of the heaven have nests, but the Son of man has nowhere to lay his head.

²⁰ But he that was planted in stony places, the same is he that hears the word and receives it immediately with joy; ²¹ yet he has no root in himself but is temporal, for when affliction or persecution arises because of the word, by and by he is offended.

²⁰ for Herod feared John, knowing that he was a just and holy man, and respected him; and when he heard him, he did many things and heard him gladly.

¹⁷ ¶ And as he was leaving to continue his way, there came one running, who kneeled before him and asked him, Good Master, what shall I do that I may inherit eternal life? ¹⁸ And Jesus said unto him, Why dost thou call me good? there is none good but one, that is, God. ¹⁹ Thou knowest the commandments: Do not commit adultery, Do not murder, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Defraud not, Honour thy father and mother. ²⁰ And he answered and said unto him, Master, all these I have observed from my youth. ²¹ Then Jesus beholding him loved him and said unto him, One thing thou lackest: go, sell all that thou hast and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven; and come, take up the cross {Gr. stauros – stake}, and follow me taking up thy stake (if thy desire is to be perfect). ²² But he, saddened by this word, went away grieved, for he had great possessions.

³⁵ He was a burning and a shining light, and ye were willing to rejoice for one hour in his light.

¹³ Then Simon himself believed also; and when he was baptized, he continued with Philip and wondered, beholding the miracles and signs which were being done.

¹⁸ And when Simon saw that through the laying on of the apostles’ hands the Holy Spirit was given, he offered them money, ¹⁹ saying, Give me also this power, that on whomsoever I lay hands, he may receive the Holy Spirit. ²⁰ But Peter said unto him, Thy money perish with thee because thou hast thought that the gift of God may be purchased with money. ²¹ Thou hast neither part nor lot in this matter, for thy heart is not right in the sight of God.

²⁵ And as he reasoned of righteousness, temperance, and judgment to come, Felix trembled and answered, Go away for this time; when I have a convenient season, I will call for thee. ²⁶ He hoped also that money should have been given him from Paul, that he might loose him; therefore he sent for him many times and communed with him.

²⁸ Then Agrippa said unto Paul, Almost thou persuadest me to be a Christian.

²⁸ But ye should say, Why should we persecute him, seeing that the root of the matter is found in me?

⁸ For what is the hope of the hypocrite, though he has stolen much, when God takes away his soul? ⁹ Will God hear his cry when the tribulation comes upon him? ¹⁰ Will he delight himself in the Almighty? Will he always call upon God?

⁶ And blessed is he who is not offended in me.

³¹ Therefore I say unto you, All manner of sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven unto men, but the blasphemy against the Spirit shall not be forgiven unto men.

²¹ yet he has no root in himself but is temporal, for when affliction or persecution arises because of the word, by and by he is offended.

⁹ Then they shall deliver you up to be afflicted and shall kill you, and ye shall be hated of all nations for my name’s sake. ¹⁰ And then shall many be offended and shall betray one another and shall hate one another.

⁵ And some fell on stony ground where it had not much earth, and immediately it sprang up because it had no depth of earth; ⁶ but when the sun was up, it was scorched, and because it had no root, it withered away.

¹⁰ And whosoever shall speak a word against the Son of man, there is forgiveness for him; but unto him that blasphemes against the Holy Spirit, it shall not be forgiven.

³¹ ¶ Then Jesus said to those Jews who had believed him, If ye abide in my word, ye shall be my disciples indeed;

² Every branch in me that does not bear fruit he shall take away; and every one that bears fruit, he shall purge that they may bring forth more fruit. ³ Now ye are clean through the word which I have spoken unto you. ⁴ Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abides in the vine, no more can ye, except ye abide in me. ⁵ I AM the vine, ye are the branches: he that abides in me, and I in him, the same brings forth much fruit; for without me ye can do nothing. ⁶ He who does not abide in me shall be cast forth as an unsound branch and shall wither, and they are gathered and cast into the fire and are burned. ⁷ If ye abide in me and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you.

¹² Therefore let him that thinks he stands take heed lest he fall. ¹³ No temptation has taken you but such as is common to man, but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above what ye are able but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.

¹² As many as desire to please in the flesh, they constrain you to be circumcised, only lest they should suffer persecution for the cross {Gr. stauros – stake} of the Christ.

³ that no one should be moved in these tribulations, for you know that we are appointed for this. ⁴ For even when we were with you, we told you in advance that we must pass through tribulations, even as it has come to pass, and ye know. ⁵ For this cause I, also, not waiting any longer, have sent to know your faith, lest by some means the tempter has tempted you and our labour is in vain.

¹⁵ ¶ This, thou knowest, that all those who are in Asia are turned away from me, of whom are Phygellus and Hermogenes.

¹⁷ And that word will eat away as gangrene, of whom are Hymenaeus and Philetus, ¹⁸ who have erred from the truth, saying that the resurrection is already past and have overthrown the faith of some.

¹⁰ for Demas has forsaken me, having loved this present world and is departed unto Thessalonica; Crescens to Galatia, Titus unto Dalmatia.

¹⁶ ¶ At my first answer no one stood with me, but all men forsook me: let it not be imputed unto them.

²⁹ Of how much greater punishment, suppose ye, shall he be thought worthy, who has trodden underfoot the Son of God and has counted the blood of the covenant, with which he was sanctified, an unholy thing and has done despite unto the Spirit of grace?

¹⁹ They went out from us, but they were not of us; for if they had been of us, they would no doubt have continued with us; but this happened that it might be made manifest that they were not all of us.

¹⁰ Fear none of those things which thou shalt suffer; behold, the devil shall cast some of you into prison, that ye may be tried; and ye shall have tribulation ten days; be thou faithful unto death, and I will give thee the crown of life.

¹³ I know thy works and where thou dwellest, even where Satan’s throne is, and thou holdest fast my name and hast not denied my faith, even in those days in which Antipas was my faithful witness, {or martyr}, who was slain among you, where Satan dwellest.

⁷ And some fell among thorns, and the thorns grew up and choked it, and it yielded no fruit.

⁵ Wilt thou set thine eyes upon riches which are not? For they shall certainly make themselves wings; they shall fly away as an eagle toward heaven.

⁸ It is the man who is alone, without a successor, who has neither son nor brother; yet is there no end of all his labour; neither is his eye satisfied with riches; neither saith he, For whom do I labour and bereave my soul of good? This is also vanity and sore travail.

¹⁰ He that loves money shall not be satisfied with money; nor he that loves abundance with increase; this is also vanity. ¹¹ When goods increase, those that eat them are increased; and what good is there to the owners thereof, except the beholding of them with their eyes? ¹² The sleep of the servant is sweet whether he eats little or much, but the abundance of the rich will not suffer him to sleep. ¹³ There is another sore evil which I have seen under the sun, namely, riches kept for the owners thereof to their hurt; ¹⁴ which are lost by evil pursuits and to the sons which he has begotten; there is nothing left in his hand. ¹⁵ As he came forth of his mother’s womb, naked shall he return to go as he came and shall take nothing of his labour, which he may carry away in his hand. ¹⁶ And this also is a sore evil; that in all points as he came, so shall he go; and what profit has he that has laboured for the wind?

² and he had fenced it and gathered out the stones thereof and planted it with the choicest vine and built a tower in the midst of it and also made a winepress therein; and he looked that it should bring forth grapes, and it brought forth wild grapes.

⁴ What could have been done more to my vineyard, that I have not done in it? Therefore, when I looked that it should bring forth grapes, did it bring forth wild grapes?

¹⁰ And now the axe is also laid unto the root of the trees; therefore, every tree which does not bring forth good fruit is hewn down and cast into the fire.

²³ ¶ Then said Jesus unto his disciples, Verily I say unto you, It is difficult that a rich man shall enter into the kingdom of the heavens.

⁴¹ And Jesus answered and said unto her, Martha, Martha, thou art careful and troubled about many things;

¹⁷ and he thought within himself, saying, What shall I do because I have no room where to bestow my fruits? ¹⁸ And he said, This will I do: I will pull down my storehouses and build greater, and there will I bestow all my fruits and my goods. ¹⁹ And I will say to my soul, Soul, thou hast many goods laid up for many years; take thine ease, eat, drink, and be merry. ²⁰ But God said unto him, Thou fool, this night thy soul shall be required of thee; then whose shall those things be which thou hast stored up? ²¹ So is he that lays up treasure for himself and is not rich in God.

²⁹ And seek not what ye shall eat or what ye shall drink, neither be ye high minded. ³⁰ For all these things do the Gentiles of the world seek after, and your Father knows that ye have need of these things.

¹⁸ And they all with one consent began to make excuse. The first said unto him, I have bought a field, and I have need to go and see it; I pray thee have me excused. ¹⁹ And another said, I have bought five yoke of oxen, and I go to prove them; I pray thee have me excused. ²⁰ And another said, I have married a wife, and therefore I cannot come.

² Every branch in me that does not bear fruit he shall take away; and every one that bears fruit, he shall purge that they may bring forth more fruit.

⁶ Be anxious for nothing, but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known unto God.

¹⁷ Charge those that are rich in this world, that they not be highminded, not placing their hope in uncertain riches, but in the living God, who gives us richly all things to enjoy;

⁷ For the earth which drinks in the rain that comes often upon it and brings forth herbs in season for those by whom it is dressed receives blessing from God; ⁸ but that which bears thorns and briers is rejected and is near unto cursing, whose end shall be by fire.

² so that now the time that remains in the flesh, he might live, not unto the lusts of men, but unto the will of God. ³ For it should suffice us that during the time past of our life we had done the will of the Gentiles, when we conversed in lasciviousness, lusts, drunkenness, gluttony, orgies, and abominable idolatries.

⁸ For if these things are in you and abound, they shall not let you be idle nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.

¹⁵ Love not the world neither the things that are in the world. If anyone loves the world, the charity of the Father is not in him. ¹⁶ For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh and the lust of the eyes and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world. ¹⁷ And the world passes away and the lust thereof, but he that does the will of God abides for ever.

⁸ And other fell on good ground and did yield fruit that sprang up and increased and brought forth: some thirty and some sixty and some a hundred.

⁴ Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abides in the vine, no more can ye, except ye abide in me. ⁵ I AM the vine, ye are the branches: he that abides in me, and I in him, the same brings forth much fruit; for without me ye can do nothing.

¹⁶ Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain; that whatever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it unto you.

⁴ Likewise ye also, my brethren, are become dead to the law in the body of the Christ that ye should belong to another, even to him who is raised from the dead, that we should bring forth fruit unto God.

²² But the fruit of the Spirit is this: Charity, joy, peace, tolerance, gentleness, goodness, faith, ²³ meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.

¹⁰ that ye might walk worthy of the Lord, pleasing him in everything, being fruitful in every good work, and growing in the knowledge of God,

¹ ¶ It is in order then, brethren, that we beseech and exhort you in the Lord Jesus, that in the manner ye were taught of us how ye ought to walk and to please God, so ye would continue to grow.

¹ ¶ Arise, shine; for thy light is come, and the glory of the LORD is risen upon thee. ² For, behold, the darkness shall cover the earth, and gross darkness the peoples: but the LORD shall arise upon thee, and his glory shall be seen upon thee. ³ And the Gentiles shall walk to thy light, and the kings to the brightness of thy birth.

¹⁵ Neither do men light a lamp and put it under a bushel, but on the lampstand, and it gives light unto all that are in the house.

¹⁶ No one when they have lighted a lamp cover it with a vessel or put it under a bed, but set it on a lampstand, that those who enter in may see the light.

³³ No one, when he has lighted a lamp, puts it in a secret place, neither under a bushel, but on a lampstand that those who come in may see the light.

⁷ But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to each one to profit with.

³ ¶ But fornication and all uncleanness or covetousness, let it not be once named among you as becomes saints, ⁴ neither dishonest words nor foolishness nor low jesting, which are not convenient, but rather giving of thanks. ⁵ For this ye know, that no fornicator nor unclean person nor covetous man, who is also an idolater, has any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God. ⁶ Let no one deceive you with vain words, for because of these things the wrath of God comes upon the sons of disobedience. ⁷ Be not ye, therefore, partakers with them. ⁸ For in another time ye were darkness, but now ye are light in the Lord: walk as children of light; ⁹ (For the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness and righteousness and truth), ¹⁰ approving what is well pleasing unto the Lord. ¹¹ And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them. ¹² For it is a shame even to speak of those things which they do in secret. ¹³ But all these things when they are reproved by the light are made manifest, for the light is that which manifests everything. ¹⁴ Therefore he saith, Awake thou that sleepest and arise from the dead, and the Christ shall shine upon thee. ¹⁵ See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise,

¹⁵ that ye may be blameless and innocent, children of God without rebuke in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation, among whom ye shine as lights in the world, ¹⁶ holding fast the word of life, that I may glory in the day of Christ that I have not run in vain, neither laboured in vain.

⁹ I have preached righteousness in the great congregation; behold, I have not refrained my lips, O LORD, thou knowest. ¹⁰ I have not hid thy righteousness within my heart; I have declared thy truth and thy salvation; I have not concealed thy mercy and thy truth from the great congregation.

² I will open my mouth in a parable; I will utter enigmas of old, ³ which we have heard and known, and our fathers have told us. ⁴ We will not hide them from their sons, showing to the generation to come the praises of the LORD and his strength and his wonderful works that he has done.

¹⁴ For God shall bring every work to judgment with every secret thing, whether it is good or whether it is evil.

²⁶ Fear them not therefore, for there is nothing covered that shall not be revealed, nor hid that shall not be known. ²⁷ What I tell you in darkness, that speak ye in light, and what ye hear in the ear, that preach ye from the housetops.

¹⁷ For nothing is secret that shall not be made manifest, neither any thing hid that shall not be known and come to light.

² For there is nothing covered that shall not be revealed, neither hid that shall not be known. ³ Therefore whatever ye have spoken in darkness shall be heard in the light, and that which ye have spoken in the ear in closets shall be proclaimed upon the housetops.

²⁰ For we cannot but speak the things which we have seen and heard.

²⁷ For I have not refrained from declaring unto you the full counsel of God.

⁵ Therefore, judge nothing before the time, until the Lord comes, who both will bring to light the hidden things of darkness and will make manifest the counsels of the hearts; and then shall each one have praise of God.

¹ ¶ That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked upon, and our hands have handled, of the Word of life ² (for the life is manifested, and we also saw it and bear witness and show unto you that eternal life, which was with the Father and appeared unto us); ³ that which we have seen and heard we declare unto you, that ye also may have communion with us; and truly our communion is with the Father and with his Son Jesus Christ.

¹⁷ He that has an ear let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the congregations {Gr. ekklesia – called out ones}; To him that overcomes I will give to eat of the hidden manna and will give him a small white stone and in the stone a new name written, which no one knows except the one that receives it.

²⁷ ¶ Cease, my son, to hear the teaching that induces one to deviate from the reasons of wisdom.

³ Incline your ear, and come unto me: hear, and your soul shall live; and I will make an eternal covenant with you, even the sure mercies of David.

² For with the judgment with which ye judge, ye shall be judged, and with the measure with which ye measure, ye shall be measured again.

⁷ And a cloud came that overshadowed them, and a voice came out of the cloud, saying, This is my beloved Son; hear ye him.

³⁷ ¶ Judge not, and ye shall not be judged; condemn not, and ye shall not be condemned; forgive, and ye shall be forgiven; ³⁸ give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down and shaken together and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye measure out it shall be measured to you again.

²⁵ Verily, verily, I say unto you, The hour shall come, and now is, when the dead shall hear the voice of the Son of God, and they that hear shall live.

¹⁶ And I have other sheep which are not of this fold; it is expedient that I bring them also, and they shall hear my voice, and there shall be one fold and one shepherd.

²⁷ My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me;

⁶ ¶ But this I say, He who sows sparingly shall reap also sparingly, and he who sows in blessings shall also reap blessings.

² as newborn babes, desire the rational milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby in health;

¹ ¶ But there were also false prophets among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who covertly shall bring in destructive sects and shall deny the Lord that bought them, bringing upon themselves swift destruction. ² And many shall follow their pernicious ways, by reason of whom the way of truth shall be blasphemed; ³ ¶ and in covetousness they shall make merchandise of you with feigned words, upon whom the condemnation from a long time ago does not delay, and their perdition does not sleep.

¹ ¶ Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God because many false prophets are gone out into the world.

¹² For whosoever has, to him shall be given, and he shall have in abundance; but whosoever has not, from him shall be taken away even that which he has.

²⁸ Take, therefore, the talent from him and give it unto him who has ten talents. ²⁹ For unto every one that has shall be given, and he shall have abundance, but from him that has not shall be taken away even that which he has.

⁹ And I say unto you, Make friends unto yourselves with the mammon of unrighteousness; that, when these fail, you may be received into eternal dwellings. ¹⁰ He that is faithful with little is faithful also with much, and he that is unjust with little is unjust also with much. ¹¹ If therefore ye have not been faithful in the unrighteous mammon, who will commit to your trust the true? ¹² And if ye have not been faithful in that which is another man’s, who shall give you that which is your own?

²⁴ And he said unto those that stood by, Take from him the mina and give it to him that has the ten minas. ²⁵ (And they said unto him, Lord, he has ten minas.) ²⁶ For I say unto you, That unto every one who has shall be given; and from him that has not, even that which he has shall be taken away from him.

¹⁸ ¶ The wicked works a deceitful work, but to him that sows righteousness shall be a sure reward.

⁴ He that observes the wind shall not sow, and he that regards the clouds shall not reap.

² and saying, Repent ye, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.

¹⁷ From that time Jesus began to preach and to say, Repent, for the kingdom of the heavens is at hand.

¹¹ He answered and said unto them, Because it is given unto you to know the mysteries of the kingdom of the heavens, but to them it is not given.

³¹ He put forth another parable unto them, saying, The kingdom of the heavens is like unto a grain of mustard seed, which a man took and sowed in his field;

³³ He spoke another parable unto them: The kingdom of the heavens is like unto leaven, which a woman took and hid in three measures of meal until the whole was leavened.

³ Hearken; Behold, the sower went out to sow; ⁴ and it came to pass as he sowed some fell by the way side, and the fowls of the air came and devoured it up.

¹⁴ The sower is he who sows the word. ¹⁵ And these are those by the way side, in whom the word is sown, but when they have heard, Satan comes and takes away the word that was sown in their hearts. ¹⁶ And likewise these are those who are sown on stony ground, who when they have heard the word immediately receive it with gladness ¹⁷ but have no root in themselves and are temporal; afterward, when tribulation or persecution arises for the word’s sake, immediately they are offended. ¹⁸ And these are those who are sown among thorns, such as hear the word, ¹⁹ and the cares of this world and the deceitfulness of riches and the lusts of other things entering in choke the word, and it becomes unfruitful. ²⁰ And these are those who are sown in good ground, such as hear the word and receive it and bring forth fruit: some thirtyfold, some sixty, and some a hundred.

¹⁸ ¶ Then said he, Unto what is the kingdom of God like? and unto what shall I compare it?

²⁴ Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except the grain of wheat falls into the ground and dies, it abides alone; but if it dies, it brings forth much fruit.

¹⁸ And the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace unto those that make peace.

¹⁷ And I have seen regarding all the works of God that man cannot attain to understand the work that is being done under the sun, because though a man labours to seek it out, yet he shall not find it; even though the wise man says that he knows it, yet he shall not be able to attain it.

⁵ As thou dost not know what is the way of the spirit nor how the bones grow in the womb of her that is with child, even so thou dost not know the works of God who makes all.

⁷ Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again from above. ⁸ The wind blows where it desires, and thou hearest the sound of it, but canst not tell from where it comes or where it goes; so is every one that is born of the Spirit.

³⁷ and that which thou sowest, thou sowest not the body that shall be, but bare grain: it may be of wheat or of some other grain; ³⁸ but God gives it a body as it has pleased him, and to each seed its own body.

³ We must thank God always for you, brethren, as is due because your faith grows exceedingly, and the charity of each and every one of you toward each other abounds,

¹⁸ But grow in grace and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and until the day of eternity. Amen.

¹¹ And God said, Let the earth bring forth green grass, herb yielding seed, and the fruit tree yielding fruit after its nature, whose seed is in itself upon the earth; and it was so. ¹² And the earth brought forth green grass and herb yielding seed after its kind and the tree yielding fruit whose seed was in itself, according to its nature; and God saw that it was good.

⁴ ¶ These are the origins of the heavens and of the earth when they were created, in the day that the LORD God made the earth and the heavens ⁵ and every plant of the field before it was in the earth and all the grass of the field before it grew, for the LORD God had not caused it to rain upon the earth, and neither was there a man to till the ground.

⁹ And out of the ground made the LORD God to grow every tree that is desirable to the sight and good for food, the tree of life also in the midst of the garden and the tree of knowledge of good and evil.

¹¹ And now thou art cursed from the earth, which has opened her mouth to receive thy brother’s blood from thy hand; ¹² when thou tillest the ground, from now on it shall not yield unto thee her strength; a fugitive and a vagabond shalt thou be in the earth.

³ And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that brings forth its fruit in its season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatever he does shall prosper.

¹³ Those that are planted in the house of the LORD shall flourish in the courts of our God. ¹⁴ They shall still bring forth fruit in old age; they shall be vigorous and flourishing

¹⁸ But the path of the just is as the light of the morning star, that shines more and more until the day is perfect.

¹ ¶ For all things there is a season, and every will under the heaven has its time determined.

¹¹ ¶ He has made every thing beautiful in his time: even the world he has given over to their will, in such a way that no man can attain to this work that God makes from the beginning to the end.

¹¹ For as the earth brings forth her shoot and as the garden causes her seed to spring forth so the Lord GOD will cause righteousness and praise to spring forth before all the Gentiles.

³ And we shall know and follow on in knowing the LORD; his going forth is prepared as the dawn; and he shall come unto us as the rain, as the latter and former rain unto the earth.

³¹ It is like a grain of mustard seed, which, when it is sown in the earth, is less than all the seeds that are in the earth; ³² but when it is sown, it grows up and becomes greater than all herbs and shoots out great branches, so that the fowls of the air may lodge under the shadow of it.

⁶ being confident of this very thing, that he who has begun a good work in you will perfect it until the day of Jesus Christ.

⁹ ¶ And this I pray that your charity may abound yet more and more in knowledge and in all perception, ¹⁰ that ye may approve the best, that ye may be sincere and without offense until the day of Christ, ¹¹ being filled with fruits of righteousness, which are by Jesus Christ, unto the glory and praise of God.

¹² And the Lord make you to multiply and make charity to abound among you and toward all men, even as it is with us toward you, ¹³ that your hearts may be confirmed in holiness, irreprehensible before God, even our Father, for the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ with all his saints.

²⁶ Thou shalt come to thy grave in a full age, like a shock of wheat that is gathered in its season.

¹ ¶ The righteous perishes, and no man lays it to heart: and merciful men are taken away, none considering that the righteous is taken away from the evil to come. ² He shall enter into peace: they shall rest in their beds, each one walking in his uprightness.

¹³ Put in the sickle for the harvest is ripe; come, go down for the press is full, the vats overflow; for their wickedness is great.

³⁰ Let both grow together until the harvest, and in the time of harvest I will say to the reapers, Gather ye together first the tares and bind them in bundles to burn them, but gather the wheat into my barn.

⁴⁰ As therefore the tares are gathered and burned in the fire, so shall it be in the end of this age. ⁴¹ The Son of man shall send forth his angels, and they shall gather out of his kingdom all things that offend and those who do iniquity ⁴² and shall cast them into the furnace of fire; there shall be wailing and gnashing of teeth. ⁴³ Then shall the righteous shine forth as the sun in the kingdom of their Father. He who has ears to hear, let him hear.

⁷ I have fought a good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith; ⁸ from now on there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day, and not to me only, but unto all those also that have loved his appearing.

¹³ ¶ And I heard a voice from heaven saying unto me, Write, Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord from now on; Yea, saith the Spirit, that they may rest from their labours, and their works do follow them. ¹⁴ And I looked, and, behold, a white cloud, and upon the cloud one sat like unto the Son of man, having on his head a golden crown and in his hand a sharp sickle. ¹⁵ And another angel came out of the temple, crying with a loud voice to him that was seated on the cloud, Thrust in thy sickle and reap; for the hour is come for thee to reap; for the harvest of the earth is dry. ¹⁶ And he that was seated on the cloud thrust in his sickle upon the earth; and the earth was reaped. ¹⁷ And another angel came out of the temple which is in the heaven, he also having a sharp sickle.

¹³ Mem What witness shall I take to thee? Or unto whom shall I liken thee, O daughter of Jerusalem? Unto whom shall I compare thee, that I may comfort thee, O virgin daughter of Zion? for thy breach is as great as the sea: who shall heal thee?

¹⁶ ¶ But unto whom shall I liken this generation? It is like unto children sitting in the markets and shouting unto their fellows

³¹ He put forth another parable unto them, saying, The kingdom of the heavens is like unto a grain of mustard seed, which a man took and sowed in his field; ³² which indeed is the smallest of all the seeds, but when it is grown, it is the greatest among herbs and becomes a tree, so that the birds of the heaven come and make their nests in its branches.

¹⁸ ¶ Then said he, Unto what is the kingdom of God like? and unto what shall I compare it? ¹⁹ It is like a grain of mustard seed, which a man took and cast into his garden; and it grew and waxed a great tree; and the fowls of the heaven lodged in the branches of it. ²⁰ And again he said, Unto what shall I compare the kingdom of God? ²¹ It is like leaven which a woman took and hid in three measures of meal until the whole was leavened.

¹⁷ that in blessing I will bless thee and in multiplying I will multiply thy seed as the stars of the heaven and as the sand which is upon the sea shore; and thy seed shall possess the gates of his enemies; ¹⁸ and in thy seed shall all the Gentiles of the earth be blessed because thou hast hearkened unto my voice.

¹⁶ There shall be planted a handful of grain in the earth upon the tops of the mountains; its fruit shall thunder like Lebanon; and out of the city they shall blossom like the grass of the earth. ¹⁷ His name shall endure for ever; before the sun his name shall be disseminated, and all Gentiles shall be blessed in him; they shall call him blessed. ¹⁸ ¶ Blessed be the LORD God, the God of Israel, the only one who does wondrous things ¹⁹ And blessed be his glorious name for ever, and let the whole earth be filled with his glory; Amen, and Amen.

² And it shall come to pass in the last of the days or times, that the mountain of the LORD’s house shall be confirmed as the head of the mountains and shall be exalted above the hills; and all the Gentiles shall flow unto it. ³ And many peoples shall go and say, Come ye, and let us go up to the mountain of the LORD to the house of the God of Jacob; and he will teach us of his ways, and we will walk in his paths; for out of Zion shall go forth the law and the word of the LORD from Jerusalem.

⁷ The multitude of his dominion and the peace shall have no end upon the throne of David and upon his Kingdom, ordering it and confirming it in judgment and in righteousness from now on even for ever. The zeal of the LORD of the hosts will perform this.

⁶ And he said, It is a light thing that thou should be my slave to wake up the tribes of Jacob and to restore the desolations of Israel; I have also given thee for a light to the Gentiles that thou may be my saving health unto the end of the earth. ⁷ ¶ Thus has the LORD said, the Redeemer of Israel, his Holy One, to him whom man despises, to him whom the Gentiles abhor, to the slave of the tyrants, Kings shall see and be raised up as princes and shall worship because of the LORD, for faithful is the Holy One of Israel, who has chosen thee.

² With all this he shall grow up before him as a tender sprout and as a root out of a dry ground. There is no outward appearance in him, nor beauty. We shall see him, yet nothing attractive about him that we should desire him.

¹² Therefore I will divide him a portion with the great, and he shall divide the spoil unto the strong because he has poured out his soul unto death, and he was numbered with the rebellious, having born the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors.

²² The small one shall be as a thousand; the youngest as a strong nation; I the LORD will hasten it in its time.

²² ¶ Thus hath the Lord GOD said: I will also take of the highest branch of that high cedar and will set it up; I will crop off from the principal branch a shoot and will plant it upon the high and sublime mountain: ²³ in the high mountain of Israel I will plant it, and it shall bring forth boughs and bear fruit and become a magnificent cedar; and under it shall dwell every fowl; everything that flies shall dwell in the shadow of its branches. ²⁴ And all the trees of the field shall know that I the LORD have brought down the high tree, have exalted the low tree, have dried up the green tree, and have made the dry tree to flourish; I the LORD have spoken and have done it.

³⁴ Thou didst see until a stone was cut out, not with hands, which smote the image upon its feet that were of iron and baked clay and broke them to pieces. ³⁵ Then was the iron, the baked clay, the brass, the silver, and the gold broken to pieces together and became like the chaff of the summer threshingfloors; and the wind carried them away that no place was found for them again; and the stone that smote the image was made into a great mountain that filled the whole earth.

⁴⁴ And in the days of those kings the God of heaven shall raise up a kingdom which eternally shall never become corrupted, and this kingdom shall not be left to another people, but it shall break in pieces and consume all these kingdoms, and it shall stand for ever. ⁴⁵ In the manner which thou didst see that out of the mountain was cut one stone, not with hands, and that it broke in pieces the iron, the brass, the clay, the silver, and the gold; the great God has shown the king what shall come to pass hereafter; and the dream is true, and its interpretation sure.

¹¹ ¶ In that day I will raise up the tabernacle of David that is fallen and close up its breaches; and I will raise up its ruins, and I will build it as in the days of old: ¹² that those who are called by my name may possess the remnant of Edom and all the Gentiles, said the LORD that does this. ¹³ Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that the plowman shall catch up with the reaper, and the treader of grapes with him that sows seed; and the mountains shall drop new wine, and all the hills shall melt. ¹⁴ And I will turn the captivity of my people of Israel, and they shall build the waste cities and inhabit them; and they shall plant vineyards and drink the wine thereof; they shall also make gardens and eat the fruit of them. ¹⁵ For I will plant them upon their land, and they shall no more be pulled up out of their land which I have given them, said the LORD thy God.

¹ ¶ But it shall come to pass in the last of the times that the mountain of the house of the LORD shall be established as the top of the mountains and higher than all the hills, and peoples shall flow unto it. ² And many Gentiles shall come and say, Come, and let us go up to the mountain of the LORD and to the house of the God of Jacob; and he will teach us of his ways, and we will walk in his paths: for the law shall go forth from Zion and the word of the LORD from Jerusalem.

¹¹ And many Gentiles shall join themselves unto the LORD in that day and shall be my people, and I will dwell in the midst of thee, and then thou shalt know that the LORD of the hosts has sent me unto thee.

²⁰ Thus hath the LORD of the hosts said, It shall yet come to pass that there shall come people and the inhabitants of many cities ²¹ and the inhabitants of one city shall go to another, saying, Let us go to pray before the LORD and to seek the LORD of the hosts. And the other will respond: I will go also. ²² And many peoples and strong nations shall come to seek the LORD of the hosts in Jerusalem and to pray before the LORD. ²³ Thus hath the LORD of the hosts said, In those days it shall come to pass that ten men of all the languages of the Gentiles shall take hold of the robe of him that is a Jew, saying, We will go with you, for we have heard that God is with you.

⁸ In that day the LORD shall defend the inhabitants of Jerusalem; and he that is weak among them in that time shall be as David; and the house of David shall be as God, as the angel of the LORD before them.

⁶ And it shall come to pass in that day that the light shall not be clear, nor dark; ⁷ but it shall be one day which is known to the LORD, not day, nor night; but it shall come to pass, that at evening time there shall be light. ⁸ ¶ And it shall be in that day that living waters shall go out from Jerusalem: half of them toward the eastern sea and half of them toward the western sea; in summer and in winter it shall be. ⁹ And the LORD shall be king over all the earth; in that day the LORD shall be one, and his name one.

¹¹ For from the rising of the sun even unto the going down of the same, my name is great among the Gentiles; and in every place incense is offered unto my name, and a clean offering; for my name is great among the Gentiles, said the LORD of the hosts.

³¹ He put forth another parable unto them, saying, The kingdom of the heavens is like unto a grain of mustard seed, which a man took and sowed in his field; ³² which indeed is the smallest of all the seeds, but when it is grown, it is the greatest among herbs and becomes a tree, so that the birds of the heaven come and make their nests in its branches. ³³ He spoke another parable unto them: The kingdom of the heavens is like unto leaven, which a woman took and hid in three measures of meal until the whole was leavened.

¹⁸ ¶ Then said he, Unto what is the kingdom of God like? and unto what shall I compare it? ¹⁹ It is like a grain of mustard seed, which a man took and cast into his garden; and it grew and waxed a great tree; and the fowls of the heaven lodged in the branches of it.

⁴¹ So that those who gladly received his word were baptized, and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls.

⁴ But many of those who heard the word believed, and the number of the men was about five thousand.

¹⁴ And those that believed in the Lord increased in number, multitudes both of men and women.)

²⁰ So the word of God grew mightily and prevailed.

²⁰ And when they heard it, they glorified the Lord and said unto him, Thou seest, brother, how many thousands of Jews there are who have believed, and they are all zealous of the law;

¹⁵ And the seventh angel sounded the trumpet, and there were great voices in the heaven, saying, The kingdoms of this world are reduced unto our Lord and to his Christ; and he shall reign for ever and ever.

¹ ¶ And I saw an angel come down from heaven, having the key of the bottomless pit and a great chain in his hand. ² And he laid hold on the dragon, the serpent of old, which is the Devil and Satan and bound him a thousand years ³ and cast him into the bottomless pit and shut him up and set a seal upon it, that he should deceive the Gentiles no more, until the thousand years should be fulfilled; and after it is necessary that he be loosed a little while. ⁴ And I saw thrones, and those who sat upon them, and judgment was given unto them; and I saw the souls of those that were beheaded for the witness of Jesus and for the word of God and who had not worshipped the beast neither its image neither had received its mark upon their foreheads or in their hands; and they shall live and reign with Christ the thousand years. ⁵ But the rest of the dead did not live again until the thousand years were finished. This is the first resurrection. ⁶ Blessed and holy is he that has part in the first resurrection; on such the second death has no authority, but they shall be priests of God and of the Christ and shall reign with him a thousand years.

⁹ Thou didst prepare room before it and didst cause it to take deep root, and it filled the earth. ¹⁰ The hills were covered with the shadow of it, and its boughs were like the cedars of God. ¹¹ She sent out her boughs unto the sea and her branches unto the river.

¹ ¶ He that dwells in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.

³ ¶ As the apple tree among the trees of the wild, so is my beloved among the sons. I desired to sit under his shadow, and his fruit was sweet to my taste.

⁹ They shall not hurt nor destroy in all my holy mountain: for the earth shall be full of the knowledge of the LORD, as the waters cover the sea.

² And that man shall be as a hiding place from the wind, and a covert from the tempest; as rivers of water in a dry place, as the shadow of a great rock in a hot land.

²⁰ Resh The breath of our nostrils, the anointed of the LORD, was taken in their pits, of whom we had said, Under his shadow we shall live among the Gentiles.

³ Behold, the Assyrian was a cedar in Lebanon with fair branches and with a shadowing shroud and of a high stature; and his top was highest among the thick boughs. ⁴ The waters made him grow; the deep set him up on high; her rivers ran round his feet and sent her flow to all the trees of the field. ⁵ Therefore his height was exalted above all the trees of the field, and his boughs were multiplied, and his branches became long because of his many waters, which he sent forth. ⁶ All the fowls of heaven made their nests in his boughs, and under his branches all the beasts of the field brought forth their young, and under his shadow dwelt many Gentiles. ⁷ He made himself beautiful in his greatness, with the extension of his branches: for his root was by many waters. ⁸ The cedars in the garden of God did not cover him: the fir trees were not like his boughs, and the chestnut trees were not like his branches; nor any tree in the garden of God was like unto him in his beauty. ⁹ I have made him beautiful with the multitude of his branches: and all the trees of Eden, that were in the garden of God, envied him. ¹⁰ ¶ Therefore thus hath the Lord GOD said; Because thou hast lifted up thyself in height, and he has shot up his top among the thick boughs, and his heart is lifted up in his height;

¹⁰ Thus were the visions of my head in my bed: It seemed that I saw a tree in the midst of the earth, and its height was great. ¹¹ The tree grew and made itself strong, and its height reached unto heaven, and its sight to the end of all the earth: ¹² His leaves were fair, and his fruit abundant, and in him was food for all; underneath him the beasts of the field lay down in his shadow, and in his branches dwelt the fowls of the heaven, and all flesh was fed of him. ¹³ I saw in the visions of my head upon my bed, and, behold, one who was a watchman and holy descended from heaven; ¹⁴ he cried aloud and said thus, Hew down the tree, and cut off his branches, shake off his leaves, and scatter his fruit; let the beasts get away from under him and the fowls from his branches:

²⁰ The tree that thou didst see, which grew and made himself strong, whose height reached unto the heaven and the sight thereof to all the earth; ²¹ whose leaves were fair and his fruit abundant and in him was food for all, under whom the beasts of the field dwelt, and in whose branches the fowls of the heaven dwelt: ²² it is thou, O king, that grew and made thyself strong; for thy greatness has grown and has reached unto heaven, and thy dominion to the end of the earth.

¹² I have yet many things to say unto you, but ye cannot bear them now.

³⁶ Then Jesus sent the multitude away and went into the house, and his disciples came unto him, saying, Declare unto us the parable of the tares of the field. ³⁷ He answered and said unto them, He that sows the good seed is the Son of man; ³⁸ the field is the world; the good seed are the sons of the kingdom, but the tares are the sons of the wicked; ³⁹ and the enemy that sowed them is the devil; the harvest is the end of the age, and the reapers are the angels.

¹⁵ Then Peter answered and said unto him, Declare unto us this parable. ¹⁶ And Jesus said, Are ye also yet without understanding? ¹⁷ Do not ye yet understand that whatever enters in at the mouth goes into the belly and is cast out into the draught? ¹⁸ But those things which proceed out of the mouth come forth from the heart, and they defile the man. ¹⁹ For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies: ²⁰ these are the things which defile the man, but to eat with unwashed hands does not defile the man.

¹⁰ And when he was alone, those that were close to him with the twelve asked of him the parable.

¹⁷ And when he was entered into the house from the people, his disciples asked him concerning the parable. ¹⁸ And he said unto them, Are ye so without understanding also? Do ye not understand that anything from outside that enters into the man cannot defile him? ¹⁹ Because it enters not into his heart, but into the belly, and the man goes out to the privy and purges all foods. ²⁰ For he had said that it is what comes out of the man that defiles the man. ²¹ For from within, out of the heart of men, come forth the evil thoughts, the adulteries, the fornications, the murders, ²² the thefts, the covetousness, the wickedness, the deceit, the lasciviousness, the evil eye, the slander, the pride, the unwiseness: ²³ all these evil things come out from within and defile the man.

²⁷ And beginning at Moses and all the prophets, he expounded this unto them in all the scriptures concerning himself.

⁴⁴ And he said unto them, These are the words which I spoke unto you, while I was yet with you, that all things must be fulfilled which were written in the law of Moses and in the prophets and in the psalms, concerning me. ⁴⁵ Then he opened their understanding that they might understand the scriptures ⁴⁶ and said unto them, Thus it is written, and thus it behooved the Christ to suffer and to rise from the dead the third day;

²⁵ I have spoken these things unto you in proverbs, but the hour comes when I shall no longer speak unto you in proverbs, but I shall show you plainly of the Father.

¹⁸ ¶ Now when Jesus saw great multitudes about him, he commanded that they depart unto the other side.

²³ ¶ And when he was entered into a ship, his disciples followed him. ²⁴ And, behold, there arose a great moving in the sea, insomuch that the ship was covered with the waves; but he was asleep. ²⁵ And his disciples came to him and awoke him, saying, Lord, save us; we perish. ²⁶ And he said unto them, Why are ye fearful, O ye of little faith? Then, awake, he rebuked the winds and the sea; and there was a great calm. ²⁷ But the men marvelled, saying, What manner of man is this that even the winds and the sea obey him!

²² ¶ And straightway Jesus constrained his disciples to get into a ship and to go before him unto the other side while he sent the multitude away.

²¹ ¶ And when Jesus was passed over again by ship unto the other side, a great multitude gathered unto him, and he was near the sea.

⁴⁵ ¶ And straightway he told his disciples to get quickly into the ship and to go to the other side before him unto Bethsaida while he dispatched the people.

¹³ And he left them and, entering into the ship again, departed to the other side.

²² ¶ Now it came to pass on a certain day, that he went into a ship with his disciples, and he said unto them, Let us go over unto the other side of the lake. And they launched forth.

²⁵ And he said unto them, Where is your faith? And they, being afraid, wondered, saying one to another, Who is this! for he even commands the winds and the water, and they obey him.

¹ ¶ After these things Jesus went over the sea of Galilee, which is the sea of Tiberias.

¹⁷ and entered into a ship and were crossing the sea toward Capernaum. And it was now dark, and Jesus had not come to them.

²⁵ And when they had found him on the other side of the sea, they said unto him, Rabbi, when didst thou come here?

⁹ And he spoke to his disciples that a small ship should wait on him because of the multitude, lest they should throng him.

¹ ¶ And he began again to teach by the sea side, and there was gathered unto him a great multitude, so that he entered into a ship and sat in the sea, and the whole multitude was by the sea on the land.

² And when he was come out of the ship, immediately there met him a man of the tombs, with an unclean spirit,

¹² And the LORD said to Satan, Behold, all that he has is in thy power; only upon himself do not put forth thy hand. So Satan went forth from the presence of the LORD.

¹⁹ and, behold, there came a great wind from the wilderness and smote the four corners of the house, and it fell upon the young men, and they are dead; and I alone have escaped to tell thee.

²³ ¶ Those that go down to the sea in ships that do work in many waters, ²⁴ these have seen the works of the LORD and his wonders in the deep. ²⁵ For he commands and raises the stormy wind, which lifts up its waves. ²⁶ They mount up to the heavens; they go down again to the depths; their soul is melted because of trouble. ²⁷ They reel to and fro and stagger like a drunken man, and all of their knowledge is of no avail. ²⁸ Then they cry unto the LORD in their trouble, and he delivers them out of their afflictions. ²⁹ He makes the storm a calm, so that its waves are still. ³⁰ Then they are glad because they are at rest; so he brings them into the haven of his will. ³¹ Oh that men would praise the LORD for his mercy and for his wonderful works unto the sons of Adam!

⁴ ¶ But the LORD caused a great wind to rise up in the sea, and there was a mighty tempest in the sea, so that the ship thought she would be broken.

²³ ¶ And when he was entered into a ship, his disciples followed him. ²⁴ And, behold, there arose a great moving in the sea, insomuch that the ship was covered with the waves; but he was asleep.

²² ¶ Now it came to pass on a certain day, that he went into a ship with his disciples, and he said unto them, Let us go over unto the other side of the lake. And they launched forth. ²³ But as they sailed, he fell asleep; and there came down a storm of wind on the lake; and they were being filled with water and were in jeopardy.

¹⁴ But not long after, there arose against it a tempestuous wind, called Euroclydon. {devastating cold north wind from Europe} ¹⁵ And when the ship was caught up by it and could not resist against the wind, the ship was taken by the wind and drifted. ¹⁶ And running under a certain island which is called Clauda, we had much work to come by the boat, ¹⁷ Which when they had taken up, they used helps, undergirding the ship; and, fearing lest they should fall into Syrtis, {or the sandbanks}, struck sail and so were driven. ¹⁸ And we being exceedingly tossed with a tempest, the next day they lightened the ship; ¹⁹ and the third day with our own hands we cast off the dead works of the ship. ²⁰ And when neither sun nor stars in many days appeared and no small tempest lay on us, all hope that we should be saved was then lost.

⁴¹ But falling into a place where two seas met, they ran the ship aground; and the forepart stuck fast and remained unmovable, but the hinder part was broken with the violence of the waves.

²⁵ Three times I was beaten with rods, once I was stoned; three times I suffered shipwreck, night and day I have been in the deep;

²⁷ And it came to pass at noon that Elijah mocked them and said, Cry aloud, for he is a god; peradventure he is talking or he had to go to the latrine, or he is on a journey, or he sleeps and will awake. ²⁸ And they cried aloud and cut themselves after their manner with knives and lancets until the blood gushed out upon them. ²⁹ And when midday was past, even so they prophesied until the time of the offering of the evening sacrifice, and there was neither voice nor anyone that answered nor anyone that heard.

⁵ if thou would seek God early and make thy supplication to the Almighty, ⁶ if thou wert pure and upright, surely now he would awake upon thee and make the habitation of thy righteousness prosperous.

¹ ¶ Why dost thou stand afar off, O LORD? Why dost thou hide thyself in times of trouble? ² The wicked in his pride persecutes the poor; let them be taken in the devices that they have imagined.

A Psalm of David. ¶ My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me? why art thou so far from helping me and from the words of my cry? ² O my God, I cry in the daytime, but thou hearest not; and in the night season, and am not silent.

²³ Awake, why sleepest thou, O Lord? Arise, do not cast us off for ever. ²⁴ Why dost thou hide thy face and forget our affliction and our oppression?

⁷ Will the Lord cast off for ever? and will he be favourable no more? ⁸ Is his mercy gone for ever? does his word fail from generation to generation? ⁹ Has God forgotten to have mercy? has he in anger shut up his tender mercies? Selah. ¹⁰ And I said, This is my infirmity, but I will remember the years of the right hand of the most High.

²⁷ ¶ Why sayest thou, O Jacob, and speakest thou, O Israel, My way is hid from the LORD, and my judgment is passed over from my God? ²⁸ Hast thou not known? Hast thou not heard that the God of the age is the LORD, the Creator of the ends of the earth? He does not faint, nor is he weary; and there is no one that can attain to his intelligence.

¹⁴ But Zion said, The LORD has forsaken me, and my Lord has forgotten me. ¹⁵ Can a woman forget her sucking child that she should not have compassion on the son of her womb? Even though they may forget, I will not forget thee. ¹⁶ Behold, I have graven thee upon the palms of my hands; thy walls are continually before me.

⁹ ¶ Awake, awake, put on strength, O arm of the LORD; awake, as in the ancient days, in ages past. Art thou not he who cut off the proud one, and he who smote the dragon? ¹⁰ Art thou not he who dried up the sea, the waters of the great deep; he who turned the depths of the sea into a way, that the redeemed might pass over?

⁶ ¶ For as a woman forsaken and grieved in spirit has the LORD called thee, and as a young woman who is put away, said thy God. ⁷ For a small moment I have forsaken thee; but with great mercies I will gather thee. ⁸ In a little wrath I hid my face from thee for a moment; but with eternal mercy I will have compassion on thee, said the LORD thy Redeemer.

¹⁵ ¶ Look down from heaven, and behold from the habitation of thy holiness and of thy glory; where is thy zeal and thy strength, the feeling of thy bowels and of thy mercies toward me? are they restrained?

¹² Wilt thou refrain thyself regarding these things, O LORD? Wilt thou hold thy peace and afflict us very sore?

²⁴ And they came to him and awoke him, saying, Master, master, we perish. Then he arose and rebuked the wind and the raging of the water, and they ceased, and there was a calm.

⁶ Now Jacob’s well was there. Jesus, therefore, being wearied with his journey, sat thus on the well; and it was about the sixth hour.

¹⁷ Therefore in all things he should be made like unto his brethren, that he might be a merciful and faithful high priest in things pertaining to God, to make atonement for the sins of the people.

¹⁵ For we do not have a high priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.

⁷ casting all your cares upon him, for he cares for you.

¹⁶ And lift up thy rod and stretch out thy hand over the sea and divide it; and the sons of Israel shall go on dry ground through the midst of the sea.

²² Then the sons of Israel went into the midst of the sea upon the dry ground; and the waters were a wall unto them on their right hand and on their left.

²⁸ And the waters returned, and covered the chariots and the horsemen and all the host of Pharaoh that came into the sea after them; there remained not so much as one of them. ²⁹ But the sons of Israel walked upon dry land in the midst of the sea; and the waters were a wall unto them on their right hand and on their left.

¹¹ and said, Thou shalt come unto here, but no further; and there shall the pride of thy waves be stayed.

¹⁰ The LORD sits upon the flood; yea, the LORD sat down as King for ever.

⁷ He who stills the noise of the seas, the noise of their waves and the tumult of the Gentiles.

⁹ Thou dost rule the raging of the sea: when its waves arise, thou dost still them.

³ The rivers have lifted up, O LORD; the rivers have lifted up their voice; the rivers lift up their waves. ⁴ The LORD on high is mightier than the noise of many waters, yea, than the mighty waves of the sea.

⁷ At thy rebuke they fled; at the voice of thy thunder they hasted away. ⁸ The mountains were exposed; they descended through the valleys unto the place which thou hast founded for them. ⁹ Thou hast set a bound that they may not pass over, that they not turn again to cover the earth.

²⁹ He makes the storm a calm, so that its waves are still.

⁸ fire and hail; snow and vapour; stormy wind fulfilling his word,

²⁹ when he gave to the sea his decree that the waters should not pass his commandment, when he appointed the foundations of the earth,

²² Do ye not fear me? saith the LORD; will ye not tremble at my presence, who placed the sand for the bound of the sea by an eternal order, which cannot be broken? Storms shall raise themselves up, yet they shall not prevail; their waves shall roar, yet they shall not pass over it.

³¹ Caph For the Lord will not cast off for ever:

⁴ He reprehends the sea and makes it dry and dries up all the rivers; Bashan was destroyed, and Carmel; and the flower of Lebanon was destroyed.

²⁵ When Jesus saw that the multitude concurred, he rebuked the unclean spirit, saying unto him, Thou dumb and deaf spirit, I command thee, come out of him and enter no more into him.

³⁹ And he stood over her and rebuked the fever, and it left her, and immediately she arose and ministered unto them.

for the sons of Korah, A Song upon Alamoth. ¶ God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in tribulation. ² Therefore we will not fear, though the earth be removed and though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea, ³ though the waters thereof roar and be troubled, though the mountains shake with the violence thereof. ³ He shall not break a bruised reed, nor shall he quench the smoking flax; he shall bring forth judgment unto truth.

² When thou dost pass through the waters, I will be with thee; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee; when thou dost walk through the fire, thou shalt not be burned; neither shall the flame kindle upon thee.

³⁰ Therefore, if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is and tomorrow is cast into the oven, shall he not much more clothe you, O ye of little faith?

²⁶ And he said unto them, Why are ye fearful, O ye of little faith? Then, awake, he rebuked the winds and the sea; and there was a great calm.

³¹ And immediately Jesus stretched forth his hand and caught him and said unto him, O thou of little faith, why didst thou doubt?

⁸ Which when Jesus perceived, he said unto them, O ye of little faith, why reason ye among yourselves that ye have brought no bread?

¹⁹ So when they had rowed about twenty-five or thirty furlongs, they saw Jesus walking upon the sea and drawing nigh unto the ship, and they were afraid. ²⁰ But he said unto them, I AM; be not afraid.

¹⁸ So Samuel called unto the LORD, and the LORD sent thunder and rain that day, and all the people greatly feared the LORD and Samuel. ¹⁹ And all the people said unto Samuel, Pray for thy slaves unto the LORD thy God that we not die, for we have added unto all our sins this evil, to ask for a king over us. ²⁰ And Samuel said unto the people, Do not fear. Ye have done all this wickedness, yet do not turn aside from following the LORD, but serve the LORD with all your heart;

²⁴ Only fear the LORD and serve him in truth with all your heart, for consider what great things he has done with you.

⁷ God is greatly to be feared in the assembly of the saints and to be had in reverence of all those that are about him.

⁹ And he said unto them, I am a Hebrew; and I fear the LORD, God of the heavens, who has made the sea and the dry land. ¹⁰ Then the men were exceedingly afraid and said unto him, Why hast thou done this? For the men knew that he fled from the presence of the LORD because he had told them.

¹⁵ So they took up Jonah and cast him forth into the sea; and the sea ceased from her raging. ¹⁶ Then the men feared the LORD exceedingly and offered a sacrifice unto the LORD and made vows.

⁵ My covenant was with him of life and peace; and I gave them to him for the fear with which he feared me and was broken before my name.

²⁷ But the men marvelled, saying, What manner of man is this that even the winds and the sea obey him!

³² And when they were come into the ship, the wind ceased.

³³ But the woman fearing and trembling, knowing what was done in her, came and fell down before him and told him all the truth.

³⁷ and were beyond measure astonished, saying, He has done all things well: he makes both the deaf to hear and the dumb to speak.

³⁶ And they were all amazed and spoke among themselves, saying, What word is this! For with authority and power he commands the unclean spirits, and they come out.

²⁸ Therefore, receiving a kingdom which cannot be moved, let us hold fast to the grace, by which we serve God, pleasing him with reverence and godly fear:

⁴ Who shall not fear thee, O Lord, and magnify thy name? for thou only art holy; therefore, all the Gentiles shall come and worship before thee; for thy judgments are made manifest.
