¹¹ I indeed baptize you in water unto repentance, but he that comes after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear; he shall baptize you in the Holy Spirit and fire,

⁴ When the Lord shall have washed away the filth of the daughters of Zion and shall have purged the blood of Jerusalem from the midst thereof by the spirit of judgment and by the spirit of burning.

³ For I will pour water upon him that is thirsty and floods upon the dry ground; I will pour my spirit upon thy seed and my blessing upon thine offspring:

²⁰ And the Redeemer shall come to Zion and unto those that turn from the rebellion in Jacob, said the LORD. ²¹ And this shall be my covenant with them, said the LORD; My spirit that is upon thee, and my words, which I have put in thy mouth, shall not depart out of thy mouth, nor out of the mouth of thy seed, nor out of the mouth of thy seed’s seed, saith the LORD, from now on and for ever.

⁹ And I will put the third part into the fire and will refine them as silver is refined and will try them as gold is tried; He shall call on my name, and I will hear him; I will say, My people, and he shall say, The LORD is my God.

² But who may abide the time of his coming? and who shall stand when he appears? for he shall be like a refiner’s fire and like fullers’ soap: ³ And he shall sit to refine and to purify the silver: for he shall purify the sons of Levi and purge them as gold and silver that they may offer unto the LORD an offering in righteousness. ⁴ Then the offering of Judah and Jerusalem shall be pleasant unto the LORD as in the days of old and as in former years.

⁶ and were baptized of him in the Jordan, confessing their sins.

⁴ John baptized in the wilderness and preached the baptism of repentance for remission of sins.

⁷ and preached, saying, There comes one mightier than I after me, the latchet of whose shoes I am not worthy to stoop down and unloose. ⁸ I indeed have baptized you with water, but he shall baptize you with the Holy Spirit.

¹⁷ And he shall go before him in the spirit and power of Elijah to turn the hearts of the fathers to the children and the rebellious to the prudence of the just, to make ready a prepared people for the Lord.

³ And he came into all the country about Jordan, preaching the baptism of repentance for the remission of sins;

¹⁵ ¶ John bore witness of him and cried, saying, This is he of whom I spoke, He that comes after me is preferred before me, for he was before me.

²⁶ John answered them, saying, I baptize with water, but there stands one among you, whom ye know not; ²⁷ he it is, who coming after me is preferred before me, whose shoe’s latchet I am not worthy to unloose.

³⁰ This is he of whom I said, After me comes a man who is preferred before me, for he was before me.

³³ And I knew him not; but he that sent me to baptize with water, the same said unto me, Upon whom thou shalt see the Spirit descending and abiding on him, the same is he who baptizes with the Holy Spirit. ³⁴ And I have seen and have given testimony that this is the Son of God.

²³ And John also was baptizing in Aenon near to Salim because there was much water there, and they came and were baptized. ²⁴ For John was not yet cast into prison. ²⁵ Then there arose a question between the disciples of John and the Jews about purifying. ²⁶ And they came unto John and said unto him, Rabbi, he that was with thee beyond Jordan of whom thou gave witness, behold, the same baptizes, and all men come to him. ²⁷ John answered and said, A man can receive nothing except it is given him from the heaven. ²⁸ Ye yourselves are my witnesses that I said, I am not the Christ, but that I am sent before him. ²⁹ He that has the bride is the bridegroom, but the friend of the bridegroom, who stands and hears him, rejoices greatly because of the bridegroom’s voice; this my joy therefore is fulfilled. ³⁰ It is expedient unto him to increase, but unto me, to decrease. ³¹ He that comes from above is above all; he that is of the earth is earthly and speaks earthly things: he that comes from heaven is above all. ³² And what he has seen and heard, that he testifies; and no one receives his testimony. ³³ He that has received his testimony has set to his seal that God is true. ³⁴ For he whom God has sent speaks the words of God; for God does not give the Spirit by measure unto him. ³⁵ The Father loves the Son and has given all things into his hand. ³⁶ He that believes in the Son has eternal life, and he that does not obey the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God abides on him.

⁵ For John truly baptized in water, but ye shall be baptized in the Holy Spirit not many days from now.

² And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting. ³ And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them. ⁴ And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.

¹⁵ And as I began to speak, the Holy Spirit fell on them, as on us at the beginning. ¹⁶ Then I remembered the word of the Lord, when he said, John indeed baptized in water, but ye shall be baptized in the Holy Spirit.

²⁴ John, having first proclaimed before his coming, the baptism of repentance to all the people of Israel. ²⁵ And as John fulfilled his course, he said, Whom think ye that I am? I am not he. But, behold, there comes one after me, whose shoes of his feet I am not worthy to loose.

⁴ Then said Paul, John verily baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying unto the people that they should believe on him who should come after him, that is, on Christ, Jesus.

¹³ For by one Spirit we are all baptized into one body, whether we are Jews or Greeks, whether we are slaves or free, and have been all made to drink into one Spirit.

²⁷ For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ. ²⁸ Here there is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male nor female; for ye are all one in Christ Jesus.

⁸ Unto me, who am less than the least of all saints, is this grace given that I should preach among the Gentiles the unsearchable riches of the Christ

⁵ not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Spirit,

⁵ ¶ Likewise, young people, be subject to the elders in such a manner that you are all subject to one another. Be clothed with humility of will, for God resists the proud and gives grace to the humble.
