¹ ¶ Then came the daughters of Zelophehad, the son of Hepher, the son of Gilead, the son of Machir, the son of Manasseh, of the families of Manasseh, the son of Joseph; and these are the names of his daughters; Mahlah, Noah and Hoglah and Milcah and Tirzah. ² And they stood before Moses and before Eleazar, the priest, and before the princes and all the congregation, by the door of the tabernacle of the testimony, saying, ³ Our father died in the wilderness, and he was not in the company of those that gathered themselves together against the LORD in the company of Korah, but died in his own sin, and had no sons. ⁴ Why should the name of our father be done away from among his family because he has no son? Give unto us therefore a possession among the brethren of our father. ⁵ And Moses brought their cause before the LORD. ⁶ And the LORD spoke unto Moses, saying, ⁷ The daughters of Zelophehad speak right; thou shalt surely give them a possession of an inheritance among their father’s brethren, and thou shalt cause the inheritance of their father to pass unto them. ⁸ And thou shalt speak unto the sons of Israel, saying, If a man dies and has no son, then ye shall cause his inheritance to pass unto his daughter. ⁹ And if he has no daughter, then ye shall give his inheritance unto his brethren. ¹⁰ And if he has no brethren, then ye shall give his inheritance unto his father’s brethren. ¹¹ And if his father has no brethren, then ye shall give his inheritance unto his kinsman that is next to him of his lineage, and he shall inherit it; and it shall be unto the sons of Israel a law of rights, as the LORD commanded Moses. ¹² ¶ And the LORD said unto Moses, Climb up this Mount Abarim, and thou shalt see the land which I have given unto the sons of Israel. ¹³ And after thou hast seen it, thou also shalt be gathered unto thy peoples, as Aaron thy brother was gathered. ¹⁴ For ye were rebels to my word in the desert of Zin, in the strife of the congregation, to sanctify me in the waters before their eyes. These are the waters of Meribah of Kadesh in the wilderness of Zin. ¹⁵ ¶ Then Moses spoke unto the LORD, saying, ¹⁶ Let the LORD, the God of the spirits of all flesh, set a man over the congregation, ¹⁷ who may go out before them, and who may go in before them, and who may lead them out and who may bring them in that the congregation of the LORD not be as sheep without a shepherd. ¹⁸ And the LORD said unto Moses, Take Joshua, the son of Nun, a man in whom is the Spirit, and lay thine hand upon him ¹⁹ and set him before Eleazar, the priest, and before all the congregation and give him a charge in their presence. ²⁰ And thou shalt put some of thy splendour upon him that all the congregation of the sons of Israel may hear him. ²¹ And he shall stand before Eleazar, the priest, whom he shall consult in the judgment of the Urim before the LORD; at his word shall they go out, and at his word they shall come in, both he and all the sons of Israel with him, even all the congregation. ²² And Moses did as the LORD commanded him, and he took Joshua and set him before Eleazar, the priest, and before all the congregation, ²³ and he laid his hands upon him and gave him a charge, as the LORD had commanded by the hand of Moses.

³³ And Zelophehad, the son of Hepher, had no sons, but daughters; and the names of the daughters of Zelophehad were Mahlah and Noah, Hoglah, Milcah, and Tirzah.

¹ ¶ And the princes of the fathers of the families of the sons of Gilead, the son of Machir, the son of Manasseh, of the families of the sons of Joseph, came near and spoke before Moses and before the princes, the heads of the fathers of the sons of Israel, ² and they said, The LORD commanded my lord to give the land for an inheritance by lot to the sons of Israel; and my lord was also commanded by the LORD to give the inheritance of Zelophehad, our brother unto his daughters. ³ And if they become married to any of the sons of the other tribes of the sons of Israel, then their inheritance shall be taken from the inheritance of our fathers and shall be put to the inheritance of the tribe unto which they are received; so shall it be taken from the lot of our inheritance. ⁴ And when the jubilee of the sons of Israel shall come, then shall their inheritance be put unto the inheritance of the tribe unto which they are received; so shall their inheritance be taken away from the inheritance of the tribe of our fathers. ⁵ ¶ Then Moses commanded the sons of Israel according to the word of the LORD, saying, The tribe of the sons of Joseph has spoken well. ⁶ This is the thing which the LORD commands concerning the daughters of Zelophehad, saying, Let them marry as they desire; but they shall marry only within the family of the tribe of their father ⁷ so that the inheritance of the sons of Israel shall not be passed from tribe to tribe; for each one of the sons of Israel shall cleave to the inheritance of the tribe of his fathers. ⁸ And any daughter, that possesses an inheritance in any tribe of the sons of Israel, shall marry one of the family of the tribe of her father so that each man of the sons of Israel may possess the inheritance of his fathers. ⁹ So that the inheritance shall not change from one tribe to another tribe, each one of the tribes of the sons of Israel shall cleave to his own inheritance. ¹⁰ As the LORD commanded Moses, so did the daughters of Zelophehad. ¹¹ And thus Mahlah, Tirzah, Hoglah, Milcah and Noah, the daughters of Zelophehad, married the sons of their uncles. ¹² They were women of the family of the sons of Manasseh, the son of Joseph, and their inheritance remained in the tribe of the family of their father.

³ But Zelophehad, the son of Hepher, the son of Gilead, the son of Machir, the son of Manasseh, had no sons, but daughters, and these are the names of his daughters: Mahlah, Noah, Hoglah, Milcah, and Tirzah. ⁴ And they came near before Eleazar the priest and before Joshua, the son of Nun, and before the princes and said, The LORD commanded Moses to give us an inheritance among our brethren. Therefore, according to the commandment of the LORD he gave them an inheritance among the brethren of their father. ⁵ And there fell ten portions to Manasseh besides the land of Gilead and Bashan, which were on the other side of the Jordan, ⁶ because the daughters of Manasseh had an inheritance among his sons; and the rest of Manasseh’s sons had the land of Gilead.

¹⁵ And Machir took wives of Huppim and Shuppim, whose sister’s name was Maachah, and the name of the second was Zelophehad. And Zelophehad had daughters.

²⁸ Here there is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male nor female; for ye are all one in Christ Jesus.

¹³ ¶ And it came to pass another day that Moses sat to judge the people, and the people stood before Moses from the morning unto the evening. ¹⁴ And when Moses’ father-in-law saw all that he did to the people, he said, What is this that thou doest to the people? Why sittest thou thyself alone and all the people stand before thee from morning unto evening?

¹⁹ Hearken now unto my voice, I will give thee counsel, and God shall be with thee: Be thou for the people before God that thou may submit the causes unto God. ²⁰ And thou shalt teach them ordinances and laws and shalt show them the way in which they must walk and the work that they must do. ²¹ Moreover thou shalt consider out of all the people men of virtue, such as fear God, men of truth, hating covetousness, and place princes over them, of thousands, of hundreds, of fifties, and of tens. ²² And let them judge the people at all seasons; and it shall be that every great matter they shall bring unto thee, but every small matter they shall judge, so shall it be easier for thyself, and they shall bear the burden with thee. ²³ If thou shalt do this thing and God command thee so, then thou shalt be able to endure, and all this people shall also go to their place in peace. ²⁴ So Moses hearkened to the voice of his father-in-law and did all that he had said. ²⁵ And Moses chose men of virtue out of all Israel and made them heads over the people, princes over thousands, over hundreds, over fifties, and over tens. ²⁶ And they judged the people at all seasons; the hard causes they brought unto Moses, but every small matter they judged themselves.

³³ And those that found him gathering firewood brought him unto Moses and Aaron and unto all the congregation. ³⁴ And they put him in ward because it was not declared what should be done to him.

⁸ ¶ If a matter arises that is too difficult for thee in judgment between blood and blood, between plea and plea, and between stroke and stroke, being matters of controversy within thy gates, then thou shalt arise and go up into the place which the LORD thy God shall choose, ⁹ and thou shalt come unto the priests, the Levites, and unto the judge that shall be in those days and enquire, and they shall show thee the word of judgment. ¹⁰ And thou shalt do according to the word which those of that place which the LORD shall choose shall show thee; and thou shalt observe to do according to all that they shall show thee.

³⁵ I, the LORD, have spoken, I will surely do it unto all this evil congregation that are gathered together against me; in this wilderness they shall be consumed, and there they shall die.

¹ ¶ Now Korah, the son of Izhar, the son of Kohath, the son of Levi, and Dathan and Abiram, the sons of Eliab, and On, the son of Peleth, of the sons of Reuben, took men; ² and they rose up against Moses, with two hundred and fifty men of the sons of Israel, princes of the congregation, of the council, men of renown; ³ and they gathered themselves together against Moses and against Aaron and said unto them, We have had enough of you, seeing all the congregation are holy, every one of them, and the LORD is among them; why then lift ye up yourselves above the congregation of the LORD?

¹⁹ And Korah had gathered all the congregation against them unto the door of the tabernacle of the testimony; then the glory of the LORD appeared unto all the congregation.

³² the earth opened her mouth and swallowed them up, and their houses and all the men of Korah and all their goods. ³³ They and all that they had went down alive into Sheol, and the earth closed upon them, and they perished from among the congregation. ³⁴ And all Israel, those that were round about them, fled at the cry of them, for they said, Lest the earth swallow us up also. ³⁵ ¶ And fire came out from the LORD and consumed the two hundred and fifty men that offered incense.

⁴⁹ Now those that died in that plague were fourteen thousand seven hundred, besides those that died concerning the matter of Korah.

⁹ And the sons of Eliab: Nemuel, Dathan, and Abiram. This is that Dathan and Abiram, who were famous in the congregation, who strove against Moses and against Aaron in the company of Korah, when they strove against the LORD. ¹⁰ And the earth opened her mouth and swallowed them up together with Korah, when that company died, when the fire devoured two hundred and fifty men and they became an example.

⁶⁴ And among these there was not a man of those whom Moses and Aaron the priest had numbered when they numbered the sons of Israel in the wilderness of Sinai. ⁶⁵ For the LORD had said of them, They shall surely die in the wilderness. And there was not left a man of them, except Caleb, the son of Jephunneh and Joshua, the son of Nun.

⁴ Behold, all souls are mine; as the soul of the father, so also the soul of the son is mine; the soul that sins, it shall die.

²¹ ¶ Then Jesus said again unto them, I am going away, and ye shall seek me, but ye shall die in your sins; where I go, ye shall not be able to come.

²⁴ Therefore I said unto you that ye shall die in your sins, for if ye do not believe that I AM, ye shall die in your sins.

¹² Therefore, in the manner which sin entered into the world by one man, and because of sin, death; and so death passed upon all men in the one in whom all sinned.

²¹ so that in the same manner as sin has reigned unto death, even so might grace reign through righteousness unto eternal life by Jesus, the Christ, our Lord.

²³ For the wages of sin is death, but the grace of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

¹¹ Then Moses grieved before the LORD his God and said, LORD, why shall thy wrath wax hot against thy people, which thou hast brought forth out of the land of Egypt with great power and with a mighty hand?

⁴ And they came near before Eleazar the priest and before Joshua, the son of Nun, and before the princes and said, The LORD commanded Moses to give us an inheritance among our brethren. Therefore, according to the commandment of the LORD he gave them an inheritance among the brethren of their father.

¹³ Let his posterity be cut off, and in the generation following let their name be blotted out.

⁹ ¶ The light of the righteous shall rejoice: but the fire of the wicked shall be put out.

¹⁵ And Moses said unto his father-in-law, Because the people come unto me to enquire of God. ¹⁶ When they have a matter, they come unto me; and I judge between one and another, and I declare unto them the statutes of God and his laws. ¹⁷ Then Moses’ father-in-law said unto him, The thing that thou doest is not good. ¹⁸ Thou wilt surely wear away, both thou and this people that is with thee; for this thing is too heavy for thee; thou art not able to perform it thyself alone. ¹⁹ Hearken now unto my voice, I will give thee counsel, and God shall be with thee: Be thou for the people before God that thou may submit the causes unto God.

²² And there I will meet with thee, and I will speak with thee from above the seat of reconciliation, from between the two cherubim which are upon the ark of the testimony, of all things which I will give thee in commandment unto the sons of Israel.

¹² And they put him in ward that the mind of the LORD might be showed them. ¹³ And the LORD spoke unto Moses, saying,

⁸ And Moses said unto them, Wait, and I will hear what the LORD will command concerning you.

³⁴ And they put him in ward because it was not declared what should be done to him.

⁴ I would order judgment before him and fill my mouth with arguments.

⁵ Trust in the LORD with all thine heart and lean not unto thine own understanding. ⁶ In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.

⁵ A father of the fatherless and a defender of the widows is God in his holy habitation. ⁶ God sets the solitary in families; he brings out those who are bound with chains, but the rebellious dwell in a dry land.

¹ ¶ And the princes of the fathers of the families of the sons of Gilead, the son of Machir, the son of Manasseh, of the families of the sons of Joseph, came near and spoke before Moses and before the princes, the heads of the fathers of the sons of Israel, ² and they said, The LORD commanded my lord to give the land for an inheritance by lot to the sons of Israel; and my lord was also commanded by the LORD to give the inheritance of Zelophehad, our brother unto his daughters.

⁵ A father of the fatherless and a defender of the widows is God in his holy habitation.

¹¹ Leave thy fatherless children; I will raise them; and thy widows shall trust in me.

²⁵ If thy brother becomes poor and has sold away some of his possession, his redeemer shall come, his closest kinsman, and shall redeem that which his brother sold.

⁴⁹ either his uncle or his uncle’s son shall redeem him; or any that is near of kin unto him of his lineage shall redeem him; or if he is able, he may redeem himself.

²⁹ So these things shall be for a statute of rights unto you throughout your ages in all your dwellings.

³ And he said unto the redeemer, Naomi, that is come again out of the field of Moab, sold a parcel of land, which was our brother Elimelech’s, ⁴ and I decided to cause thee to know this and tell thee to take it before the inhabitants and before the elders of my people. If thou wilt redeem it, redeem it, but if thou wilt not redeem it, then tell me that I may know, for there is no one to redeem it besides thee, and I after thee. And he said, I will redeem it. ⁵ Then Boaz replied, The day that thou dost receive the field of the hand of Naomi, thou must also receive Ruth, the Moabitess, the wife of the dead, to raise up the name of the dead upon his inheritance. ⁶ And the redeemer said, I cannot redeem it for myself lest I ruin my own inheritance; redeem thou; I cede my right to you, for I shall not be able to redeem it.

²⁵ And it was so from that day forward that he made it a statute and an ordinance for Israel unto this day.

⁸ So Hanameel my uncle’s son came to me in the court of the guard according to the word of the LORD and said unto me, Buy my field, I pray thee, that is in Anathoth, which is in the country of Benjamin; for the right of inheritance is thine, and the redemption is thine; buy it for thyself. Then I knew that this was the word of the LORD.

⁴⁷ And they removed from Almondiblathaim and pitched in the mountains of Abarim, before Nebo. ⁴⁸ And they departed from the mountains of Abarim and pitched in the plains of Moab by Jordan of Jericho.

²³ And I besought the LORD at that time, saying, ²⁴ O Lord GOD, thou hast begun to show thy slave thy greatness and thy mighty hand; for what God is there in heaven or in earth that can do according to thy works and according to thy mighty acts? ²⁵ I pray thee, let me go over and see that good land that is beyond the Jordan, that goodly mountain and Lebanon. ²⁶ But the LORD was angry with me for your sakes and would not hear me, and the LORD said unto me, Let it suffice thee; speak no more unto me of this matter. ²⁷ Climb up into the top of Pisgah and lift up thine eyes westward and towards the Aquilon and towards the Negev and eastward and behold it with thine eyes, for thou shalt not go over this Jordan.

⁴⁸ And the LORD spoke unto Moses that same day, saying, ⁴⁹ Climb up into this mountain Abarim, unto Mount Nebo, which is in the land of Moab, that is over against Jericho, and behold the land of Canaan, which I give as inheritance unto the sons of Israel, ⁵⁰ and die in the mountain which thou shalt climb and be gathered unto thy peoples, as Aaron thy brother died in Mount Hor and was gathered unto his peoples, ⁵¹ because ye trespassed against me among the sons of Israel at the waters of Meribah-Kadesh, in the wilderness of Zin, because ye did not sanctify me in the midst of the sons of Israel. ⁵² Yet thou shalt see the land before thee, but thou shalt not enter there to the land which I give the sons of Israel.

¹ ¶ And Moses went up from the plains of Moab unto the mountain of Nebo to the top of Pisgah, that is over against Jericho. And the LORD showed him all the land of Gilead, unto Dan, ² and all Naphtali and the land of Ephraim and Manasseh and all the land of Judah, unto the utmost sea, ³ and the Negev and the plain of the valley of Jericho, the city of palm trees, unto Zoar. ⁴ And the LORD said unto him, This is the land which I swore unto Abraham, unto Isaac, and unto Jacob, saying, I will give it unto thy seed. I have caused thee to see it with thine eyes, but thou shalt not go over there.

⁸ Then Abraham expired and died in a good old age, an old man and full of years, and was gathered to his people.

¹⁷ And these are the years of the life of Ishmael, one hundred thirty-seven years; and Ishmael expired and died and was gathered unto his people.

²⁴ Aaron shall be gathered unto his peoples; for he shall not enter into the land which I have given unto the sons of Israel because ye were rebels to my word at the water of Meribah. ²⁵ Take Aaron and Eleazar, his son, and bring them up unto Mount Hor ²⁶ and cause Aaron to be stripped of his garments and put them upon Eleazar, his son; for Aaron shall be gathered unto his people and shall die there. ²⁷ And Moses did as the LORD commanded him; and they went up into Mount Hor in the sight of all the congregation. ²⁸ And Moses caused Aaron to be stripped of his garments and put them upon Eleazar, his son; and Aaron died there in the top of the mount; and Moses and Eleazar came down from the mount.

² Avenge the sons of Israel upon the Midianites; afterward thou shalt be gathered unto thy peoples.

³⁸ And Aaron, the priest, went up into Mount Hor at the commandment of the LORD and died there in the fortieth year, after the sons of Israel were come out of the land of Egypt, in the first day of the fifth month.

⁶ (After this, the sons of Israel took their journey from Beeroth of the sons of Jaakan to Mosera; there Aaron died, and there he was buried; and Eleazar, his son, received the priesthood in his stead.

⁵⁰ and die in the mountain which thou shalt climb and be gathered unto thy peoples, as Aaron thy brother died in Mount Hor and was gathered unto his peoples,

⁷ And he called the name of the place Massah and Meribah because of the chiding of the sons of Israel and because they tempted the LORD, saying, Is the LORD among us, or not?

¹ ¶ Then came the sons of Israel, even the whole congregation, into the desert of Zin in the first month; and the people abode in Kadesh; and Miriam died there and was buried there.

⁸ Take the rod and gather the congregation together, thou and Aaron, thy brother, and speak ye unto the rock before their eyes, and it shall give forth its water, and thou shalt bring forth to them water out of the rock; so thou shalt give the congregation and their beasts drink. ⁹ Then Moses took the rod from before the LORD as he commanded him. ¹⁰ And Moses and Aaron gathered the congregation together before the rock, and he said unto them, Hear now, ye rebels; must we fetch you water out of this rock? ¹¹ Then Moses lifted up his hand, and with his rod he smote the rock twice; and the water came out abundantly, and the congregation drank, and their beasts also. ¹² And the LORD spoke unto Moses and Aaron, Because ye believed me not, to sanctify me in the eyes of the sons of Israel, therefore, ye shall not bring this congregation into the land which I have given them. ¹³ These are the waters of Meribah; over which the sons of Israel strove with the LORD, and he was sanctified in them.

²⁴ Aaron shall be gathered unto his peoples; for he shall not enter into the land which I have given unto the sons of Israel because ye were rebels to my word at the water of Meribah.

³⁷ Also the LORD was angry with me for your sakes, saying, Thou shalt not go in there either.

³² They angered him also at the waters of strife, so that it went ill with Moses for their sakes: ³³ Because they provoked his spirit to rebel, and he spoke it with his lips.

²² And they fell upon their faces and said, O God, the God of the spirits of all flesh, shall one man sin and wilt thou be wroth with all the congregation?

¹⁴ ¶ And the LORD said unto Moses, Behold, thy days are fulfilled that thou must die; call Joshua and wait in the tabernacle of the testimony that I may give him a charge. And Moses and Joshua went and waited in the tabernacle of the testimony.

¹³ Now, therefore, behold the king whom ye have chosen and whom ye have desired! Behold, the LORD has set a king over you.

⁵ And, therefore, I have determined to build a house unto the name of the LORD my God as the LORD spoke unto David, my father, saying, Thy son, whom I will set upon thy throne in thy place, he shall build a house unto my name.

¹⁵ And I will give you pastors according to my heart, which shall feed you with knowledge and understanding.

⁴ And I will set up shepherds over them which shall feed them; and they shall fear no more nor be dismayed neither shall they be lacking, said the LORD. ⁵ Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will raise unto David a righteous Branch, and a King shall reign and prosper and shall execute judgment and righteousness in the earth.

¹¹ For thus hath the Lord GOD said: Behold, I, even I, will both search and recognize my sheep. ¹² As the shepherd recognizes his flock in the day that he is among his sheep that are scattered, so will I recognize my sheep, and will deliver them out of all places where they have been scattered in the cloudy and dark day. ¹³ And I will bring them out from the peoples and gather them from the countries and will bring them to their own land and feed them upon the mountains of Israel by the rivers and in all the habitations of the country. ¹⁴ I will feed them in good pastures and upon the high mountains of Israel shall their fold be; there they shall sleep in a good fold, and in fat pastures they shall be fed upon the mountains of Israel. ¹⁵ I will feed my flock, and I will cause them to have a fold, saith the Lord GOD. ¹⁶ I will seek that which was lost and bring again that which was driven away and will bind up that which was broken and will strengthen that which was sick but I will destroy the fat and the strong; I will feed them in judgment.

²³ And I will raise up one shepherd over them, and he shall feed them, even my slave David; he shall feed them, and he shall be their shepherd.

²⁴ And David my slave shall be king over them; and they all shall have one shepherd; they shall also walk within my rights and keep my statutes and do them.

³⁸ pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he will send forth labourers into his harvest.

¹¹ I AM the good shepherd; the good shepherd gives his life for the sheep.

²⁸ Take heed therefore unto yourselves and to all the flock, in which the Holy Spirit has placed you as bishops to feed the congregation {Gr. ekklesia – called out ones} of God, which he has purchased with his own blood.

⁹ Furthermore, we have had fathers of our flesh who corrected us, and we gave them reverence; is it not much better to be in subjection to the Father of spirits, and we shall live?

² Feed the flock of God which is among you, caring for her, not by force, but willingly; not for shameful lucre, but with willing desire; ³ and not as having lordship over the heritage of the Lord, but in such a manner as to be examples of the flock. ⁴ And when the great Prince of the pastors shall appear, ye shall receive the incorruptible crown of glory.

² and he said unto them, I am one hundred and twenty years old today; I can no longer go out and come in; also the LORD has said unto me, Thou shalt not pass this Jordan.

²⁰ that we also may be like all the Gentiles and that our king may govern us and go out before us and fight our battles.

¹³ Therefore, Saul removed him from him and made him captain over a thousand, and he went out and came in before the people.

² And even yesterday and the day before yesterday, when Saul was king over us, it was thou that didst lead out and bring in Israel; and the LORD said to thee, Thou shalt feed my people Israel, and thou shalt be prince over Israel.

⁷ And now, O LORD my God, thou hast made thy slave king instead of David my father; and I am but a tender young man; I do not know how to go out or come in.

¹⁷ Then he said, I saw all Israel scattered upon the mountains as sheep without a shepherd; and the LORD said, These have no master; let them return each man to his house in peace.

¹⁰ Give me now wisdom and knowledge that I may go out and come in before this people, for who can judge this thy people, that is so great?

¹⁶ Then he said, I did see all Israel scattered upon the mountains, as sheep that have no shepherd; and the LORD said, These have no master; let each one return to his house in peace.

⁵ and they are dispersed because there is no shepherd; and they became food to all the beasts of the field, and they were scattered.

² For the idols have spoken vanity and the diviners have seen a lie and have told vain dreams; they comfort in vain; therefore they went their way like sheep; they were humbled because there was no shepherd.

⁷ ¶ Awake, O sword, upon the pastor and upon the man that is my fellow, said the LORD of the hosts; smite the shepherd, and the sheep shall be scattered; and I will turn my hand upon the little ones.

³⁶ And when he saw the multitude, he was moved with compassion on them because they fainted and were scattered abroad, as sheep having no shepherd.

⁶ but go rather to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.

²⁴ But he answered and said, I am not sent but unto the lost sheep of the house of Israel.

³⁴ And Jesus, when he came out, saw a great multitude and had mercy on them because they were as sheep not having a shepherd, and he began to teach them many things.

³ To him the porter opens, and the sheep hear his voice, and he calls his own sheep by name and leads them out. ⁴ And when he puts forth his own sheep, he goes before them; and the sheep follow him, for they know his voice.

⁹ I AM the door; whosoever enters in by me shall be saved and shall go in and out and find pasture.

²⁵ For ye were as sheep that had gone astray, but are now converted unto the Shepherd and Bishop of your souls.

³⁸ And Pharaoh said unto his slaves, Can we find such a one as this is, a man in whom the Spirit of God is?

⁹ And Moses said unto Joshua, Choose us out men and go out, fight with Amalek; tomorrow I will stand on the top of the hill with the rod of God in my hand.

¹⁷ And I will come down and talk with thee there, and I will take of the spirit which is in thee and will put it upon them, and they shall bear the burden of the people with thee, that thou bear it not thyself alone.

²⁵ Then the LORD came down in the cloud and spoke unto him and took of the spirit that was in him and gave it unto the seventy elders, and it came to pass that when the spirit rested upon them, they prophesied and did not cease. ²⁶ But there remained two of the men in the camp, the name of the one was Eldad and the name of the other Medad, upon whom the spirit also rested; and they were of those that were written, but they had not gone unto the tabernacle; and they began to prophesy in the camp. ²⁷ And a young man ran and told Moses, and said, Eldad and Medad prophesy in the camp. ²⁸ Then Joshua the son of Nun, the minister of Moses, one of his young men, answered and said, My lord Moses, forbid them. ²⁹ And Moses said unto him, Art thou jealous for my sake? It would be good that all the LORD’s people were prophets and that the LORD would put his spirit upon them!

⁸ Of the tribe of Ephraim, Hosea, the son of Nun.

¹⁶ These are the names of the men whom Moses sent to spy out the land. And Moses called Hosea, the son of Nun, Joshua.

²³ and he laid his hands upon him and gave him a charge, as the LORD had commanded by the hand of Moses.

²⁸ But charge Joshua and encourage him and comfort him, for he shall go over before this people, and he shall cause them to inherit the land which thou shalt see.

⁷ And Moses called unto Joshua and said unto him in the sight of all Israel, Be strong and of a good courage, for thou shalt enter in with this people to the land which the LORD has sworn unto their fathers to give them, and thou shalt cause them to inherit it. ⁸ And the LORD is he that doth go before thee; he will be with thee; he will not fail thee, neither forsake thee; fear not, neither be dismayed.

²³ And he gave Joshua, the son of Nun, a charge and said, Be strong and of a good courage for thou shalt bring the sons of Israel into the land which I swore unto them, and I will be with thee.

⁹ ¶ And Joshua, the son of Nun, was full of the Spirit of wisdom; for Moses had laid his hands upon him; and the sons of Israel hearkened unto him and did as the LORD commanded Moses.

¹⁰ And the Spirit of the LORD came upon him, and he judged Israel and went out to war; and the LORD delivered Chushanrishathaim king of Mesopotamia into his hand, and his hand prevailed against Chushanrishathaim.

²⁹ ¶ Then the Spirit of the LORD came upon Jephthah, and he passed through Gilead and Manasseh and passed through Mizpeh of Gilead, and from Mizpeh of Gilead he went unto the sons of Ammon.

¹³ Then Samuel took the horn of oil and anointed him from among his brethren; and the Spirit of the LORD prospered David from that day forward. So Samuel rose up and went to Ramah. ¹⁴ ¶ But the Spirit of the LORD departed from Saul, and an evil spirit from the LORD troubled him.

¹⁸ Then one of the servants answered and said, Behold, I have seen a son of Jesse of Bethlehem, that is cunning in playing and a mighty valiant man and a man of war and prudent in speech and handsome, and the LORD is with him.

¹⁴ I have heard of thee, that the spirit of the holy God is in thee and that light and understanding and greater wisdom was found in thee.

³⁴ For he whom God has sent speaks the words of God; for God does not give the Spirit by measure unto him.

³ therefore, brethren, seek out among you seven men of whom you bear witness, full of the Holy Spirit and wisdom, whom we may appoint over this business.

⁶ these they set before the apostles, and when they had prayed, they laid their hands on them.

¹⁵ who, when they were come down, prayed for them that they might receive the Holy Spirit. ¹⁶ (For as yet he was fallen upon none of them; they were baptized only in the name of the Lord Jesus.) ¹⁷ Then they laid their hands on them, and they received the Holy Spirit. ¹⁸ And when Simon saw that through the laying on of the apostles’ hands the Holy Spirit was given, he offered them money, ¹⁹ saying, Give me also this power, that on whomsoever I lay hands, he may receive the Holy Spirit.

³ And when they had fasted and prayed and laid their hands on them, they released them.

⁶ And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Spirit came on them, and they spoke in tongues and prophesied.

⁴ Now there is dispersal of gifts, but the same Spirit. ⁵ And there is dispersal of ministries, but the same Lord. ⁶ And there is dispersal of operations, but it is the same God who works all in each one. ⁷ But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to each one to profit with. ⁸ For to one is given by the Spirit a word of wisdom; to another, a word of knowledge according to the same Spirit; ⁹ to another, faith by the same Spirit; to another, gifts of healing by the same Spirit; ¹⁰ to another, the operation of miracles; to another, prophecy; to another, discerning of spirits; to another, different kinds of tongues; to another, the interpretation of tongues: ¹¹ one and the same Spirit operates all these things, dispersing to each one his own gift as he wills.

¹⁴ Neglect not the gift that is in thee, which is given unto thee to prophesy, through the laying on of the hands of the elders.

²² Lay hands suddenly on no one, neither be partaker of the sins of others; keep thyself pure.

¹ ¶ Then he called his twelve disciples together and gave them power and authority over all the demons and to cure diseases. ² And he sent them to preach the kingdom of God and to heal the sick. ³ And he said unto them, Take nothing for your journey: neither staves nor provision bag, neither bread, neither money, neither have two coats apiece. ⁴ And whatever house ye enter into, abide there and depart from there. ⁵ And whosoever will not receive you, when ye go out of that city, shake off the very dust from your feet for a testimony against them.

² Therefore he said unto them, The harvest truly is great, but the labourers are few; pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest that he would send forth labourers into his harvest. ³ Go; behold, I send you forth as lambs among wolves. ⁴ Carry neither purse nor provision bag nor shoes, and greet no one on the way. ⁵ And into whatever house ye enter, first say, Peace be to this house. ⁶ And if indeed there is a son of peace there, your peace shall rest upon it; if not, it shall turn to you again. ⁷ And in the same house remain, eating and drinking such things as they give, for the labourer is worthy of his hire. Go not from house to house. ⁸ And into whatever city ye enter and they receive you, eat such things as are set before you ⁹ and heal the sick that are therein and say unto them, The kingdom of God is come near unto you. ¹⁰ But into whatever city ye enter and they receive you not, go out into the streets of the same and say, ¹¹ Even the very dust of your city which cleaves on us we do wipe off against you; notwithstanding be ye sure of this that the kingdom of God is come near unto you.

²⁸ Take heed therefore unto yourselves and to all the flock, in which the Holy Spirit has placed you as bishops to feed the congregation {Gr. ekklesia – called out ones} of God, which he has purchased with his own blood. ²⁹ For I know this, that after my departing, grievous wolves shall enter in among you, not sparing the flock. ³⁰ Also from among your own selves, men shall arise, speaking perverse things to draw away disciples after themselves. ³¹ Therefore watch and remember that by the space of three years I ceased not to warn every one night and day with tears.

¹⁷ And say to Archippus, Take heed to fulfil the ministry which thou hast received in the Lord.

²¹ I charge thee before God and the Lord Jesus Christ and the elect angels, that thou observe these things without preferring one before another, doing nothing by partiality.

¹³ ¶ I give thee charge in the sight of God, who gives life to all things and before Christ Jesus, who testified before Pontius Pilate a good profession; ¹⁴ that thou keep the commandment without spot, unrebukeable, until the appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ, ¹⁵ who in his time shall show the blessed and only Potentate, the King of kings, and Lord of lords; ¹⁶ the only one who has immortality, dwelling in the light which no man can approach unto, whom no man has seen nor can see, to whom be honour and power everlasting. Amen. ¹⁷ Charge those that are rich in this world, that they not be highminded, not placing their hope in uncertain riches, but in the living God, who gives us richly all things to enjoy;

¹ ¶ I charge thee, therefore, before God and the Lord Jesus Christ, who shall judge the living and the dead in his appearing and in his kingdom: ² Preach the word; be instant in season and out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine. ³ For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but, having itching ears, they shall heap up unto themselves teachers who shall speak to them according to their own lusts, ⁴ and thus they shall turn away their ears from the truth and shall return unto fables. ⁵ But watch thou in all things, labour, do the work of an evangelist, fulfill thy ministry. ⁶ For I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my release is at hand.

¹⁶ ¶ Then they answered Joshua, saying, All that thou hast commanded us we will do, and wherever thou dost send us, we will go. ¹⁷ According as we hearkened unto Moses in all things, so will we hearken unto thee; only let the LORD thy God be with thee, as he was with Moses. ¹⁸ Whoever rebels against thy commandment and will not hearken unto thy words in all that thou doest command him, let him die; only be strong and of a good courage.

⁶ And the Spirit of the LORD will prosper thee, and thou shalt prophesy with them and shalt be turned into another man.

⁹ ¶ And it was so that when he had turned his shoulder to go from Samuel, God gave him another heart, and all those signs came to pass that day.

⁹ ¶ And when they had gone over, Elijah said unto Elisha, Ask what I shall do for thee before I am taken away from thee. And Elisha said, I pray thee, let a double portion of thy spirit be upon me. ¹⁰ And he said, Thou hast asked a difficult thing. If thou shalt see me when I am taken from thee, it shall be so unto thee, but if not, it shall not be so.

¹⁵ And seeing him, the sons of the prophets who were at Jericho said, The spirit of Elijah rests on Elisha. And they came to meet him and bowed themselves to the ground before him.

²³ ¶ Then Solomon sat on the throne of the LORD as king instead of David, his father, and was prospered; and all Israel heard him.

²⁵ And the LORD magnified Solomon exceedingly in the sight of all Israel and bestowed upon him such glory of the kingdom as had not been on any king before him in Israel.

³⁰ And thou shalt put in the pectoral of judgment Urim and Thummim, that they shall be upon Aaron’s heart when he goes in before the LORD; and Aaron shall always bear the judgment of the sons of Israel upon his heart before the LORD.

⁸ Then he put the pectoral upon him, and he put in the pectoral the Urim and the Thummim.

¹⁷ who may go out before them, and who may go in before them, and who may lead them out and who may bring them in that the congregation of the LORD not be as sheep without a shepherd.

⁸ ¶ And to Levi he said, Let thy Thummim and thy Urim be with thy holy one, whom thou didst prove at Massah and with whom thou didst strive at the waters of Meribah,

¹⁴ And the men of Israel took of their provision and did not ask counsel at the mouth of the LORD.

¹ ¶ Now after the death of Joshua, it came to pass that the sons of Israel asked the LORD, saying, Who shall go up for us against the Canaanites first to fight against them?

¹⁸ ¶ Then the sons of Israel arose and went up to the house of God and asked counsel of God and said, Which of us shall go up first to the battle against the sons of Benjamin? And the LORD said, Judah shall go up first.

²³ (And the sons of Israel went up and wept before the LORD until evening and asked counsel of the LORD, saying, Shall I go up again to battle against the sons of Benjamin, my brother? And the LORD said, Go up against him.)

²⁶ ¶ Then all the sons of Israel and all the people went up and came unto the house of God and wept and sat there before the LORD and fasted that day until evening and offered burnt offerings and peace offerings before the LORD. ²⁷ And the sons of Israel enquired of the LORD (for the ark of the covenant of God was there in those days, ²⁸ and Phinehas, the son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron, stood before it in those days), saying, Shall I yet again go out to battle against the sons of Benjamin, my brother, or shall I cease? And the LORD said, Go up, for tomorrow I will deliver them into thy hand.

¹⁰ And he enquired of the LORD for him and gave him provision and gave him the sword of Goliath, the Philistine. ¹¹ Then the king sent to call Ahimelech, the priest, the son of Ahitub, and all his father’s house, the priests that were in Nob; and they all came to the king. ¹² And Saul said, Hear now, thou son of Ahitub. And he answered, Here I am, my lord. ¹³ And Saul said unto him, Why have ye conspired against me, thou and the son of Jesse, in that thou hast given him bread and a sword and hast enquired of God for him that he should rise against me, to lie in wait, as at this day? ¹⁴ Then Ahimelech answered the king and said, And who is so faithful among all thy slaves as David, the king’s son-in-law, who goes at thy bidding and is honourable in thy house? ¹⁵ Did I begin to enquire of God for him today? Be it far from me; let not the king impute any thing unto his slave nor to all the house of my father, for thy slave knew nothing of all this, less or more.

⁹ But David understood that Saul devised evil against him, and he said to Abiathar, the priest, Bring here the ephod.

⁶ And Saul enquired of the LORD, but the LORD did not answer him by dreams nor by Urim nor by prophets.

⁷ ¶ And David said to Abiathar, the priest, Ahimelech’s son, I pray thee, bring the ephod here to me. And Abiathar brought the ephod to David.

⁶³ And the Tirshatha said unto them that they should not eat of the most holy things until there stood up a priest with Urim and Thummim.

¹⁹ and set him before Eleazar, the priest, and before all the congregation and give him a charge in their presence.
