² ¶ When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice, but when the wicked bear rule, the people mourn.

¹⁵ The posts went out in haste by the king’s commandment, and the law was given in Shushan, the palace. And the king and Haman sat down to drink; but the city of Shushan was perplexed.

¹ A Psalm for Solomon. ¶ Give the king thy judgments, O God, and thy righteousness unto the king’s son. ² ¶ He shall judge thy people with righteousness and thy poor with judgment. ³ The mountains shall bring peace to the people and the little hills by righteousness. ⁴ He shall judge the poor of the people; he shall save the children of the destitute and shall break in pieces the violent. ⁵ They shall fear thee along with the sun and before the moon throughout all generations. ⁶ He shall come down like rain upon the mown grass as the dew that waters the earth. ⁷ In his days shall righteousness flourish and abundance of peace until there is no longer any moon.

¹² ¶ When the righteous rejoice, there is great glory, but when the wicked rise, the sane man hides himself.

²⁸ ¶ When the wicked rise, sane men hide themselves; but when they perish, the righteous multiply.

⁵ There is another evil which I have seen under the sun, as an error which proceeds from the ruler:

¹ ¶ Behold, one king shall reign in righteousness, and princes shall preside unto judgment. ² And that man shall be as a hiding place from the wind, and a covert from the tempest; as rivers of water in a dry place, as the shadow of a great rock in a hot land.

⁵ Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will raise unto David a righteous Branch, and a King shall reign and prosper and shall execute judgment and righteousness in the earth. ⁶ In his days Judah shall be saved, and Israel shall dwell safely: and this shall be his name by which they shall call him, THE LORD OUR RIGHTEOUSNESS.

³ When Herod the king had heard these things, he was troubled and all Jerusalem with him.

¹⁶ ¶ Then Herod, seeing that he was mocked of the wise men, was exceeding wroth and sent forth and killed all the children that were in Bethlehem, and in all the borders thereof, from two years old and under, according to the time which he had understood of the wise men.

¹⁵ And the seventh angel sounded the trumpet, and there were great voices in the heaven, saying, The kingdoms of this world are reduced unto our Lord and to his Christ; and he shall reign for ever and ever.
