¹ ¶ Wisdom has built her house; she has hewn out her seven pillars: ² She has killed her sacrifice; she has mingled her wine; and she has furnished her table. ³ She has sent forth her maidens; she cries upon the highest places of the city, ⁴ whosoever is simple, let him turn in here; as for those that lack understanding, {Heb. lacking of heart}, she saith unto him, ⁵ Come, eat of my bread, and drink of the wine which I have mingled. ⁶ Forsake that which is foolish and live and go in the way of understanding. ⁷ He that chastens a scorner brings shame unto himself, and he that chastens a wicked man brings himself a blot. ⁸ Chasten not a scorner lest he hate thee; chasten a wise man, and he will love thee. ⁹ Give instruction to a wise man, and he will be yet wiser; teach a just man, and he will increase in learning. ¹⁰ The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom, and the knowledge of the holy is understanding. ¹¹ For by me thy days shall be multiplied, and the years of thy life shall be increased. ¹² If thou be wise, thou shalt be wise for thyself; but if thou scornest, thou alone shalt bear it. ¹³ ¶ A foolish woman is clamorous: she is simple and knows nothing. ¹⁴ For she sits at the door of her house on a seat in the high places of the city ¹⁵ to call to those who pass by the way, to those who straighten their ways; ¹⁶ Whosoever is simple, let him turn in here; and as for him that lacks understanding, she saith unto him: ¹⁷ Stolen waters are sweet, and bread eaten in secret is pleasant. ¹⁸ But he does not know that the dead are there and that her guests are in the depths of Sheol.

² He also built the house of the forest of Lebanon, which was one hundred cubits long and fifty cubits wide and thirty cubits high, upon four rows of cedar pillars, with cedar beams upon the pillars. ³ And it was covered with cedar above upon the beams that lay on forty-five pillars, fifteen in a row.

⁶ And he made a porch of pillars, which was fifty cubits long and thirty cubits wide, and the porch was before those others, with its corresponding pillars and thick beams.

²¹ And he stood up the pillars in the porch of the temple. And when he had set up the right pillar, he called the name of it Jachin; {Heb. The LORD establishes}; and in standing up the left pillar, he called its name Boaz. {Heb. Only in Him is there strength}

¹⁸ And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, a small rock and upon the large rock I will build my congregation {Gr. ekklesia – called out ones}, and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against her.

⁹ For we are labourers together with God; ye are God’s husbandry, ye are God’s building. ¹⁰ According to the grace of God which is given unto me, as a wise masterbuilder, I have laid the foundation, and another builds upon it. But let each one see how the building is built. ¹¹ ¶ For no one can lay another foundation than that laid, which is Jesus the Christ. ¹² Now if anyone builds upon this foundation gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, stubble, ¹³ the work of each one shall be made manifest, for the day shall declare it because it shall be revealed by fire; the work of each one, whatever sort it is, the fire shall put it to test. ¹⁴ If the work of anyone abides which he has built thereupon, he shall receive a reward. ¹⁵ If anyone’s work shall be burned, he shall suffer loss, but he himself shall be saved, yet so as by fire.

⁹ and when James, Cephas, and John, who seemed to be pillars, perceived the grace that was given unto me, they gave to me and Barnabas the right hand of fellowship that we should go unto the Gentiles, and they unto the circumcision.

²⁰ and are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief cornerstone, ²¹ in whom all the building fitly framed together grows unto a holy temple in the Lord, ²² in whom ye also are being built together for the habitation of God in the Spirit.

¹⁵ But if I tarry long, that thou may know how it is expedient to behave thyself in the house of God, which is the congregation {Gr. ekklesia – called out ones} of the living God, the pillar and base of the truth.

³ For this man was counted worthy of more glory than Moses, inasmuch as he who has built the house has more honour than the house. ⁴ For every house is built by someone, but he that created all things is God. ⁵ And Moses verily was faithful over all his house, as a servant, for a testimony of those things which were to be spoken after, ⁶ but Christ as a son over his own house, which house we are, if we hold fast the confidence and the glorious hope firmly until the end.

⁵ ye also, as living stones, are built up a spiritual house, a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, well pleasing to God by Jesus, the Christ. ⁶ Therefore, also it is contained in the scripture, Behold, I lay in Sion the chief corner stone, chosen, precious; and he that believes on him shall not be confounded.

¹² He that overcomes I will make a pillar in the temple of my God, and he shall go out no more, and I will write upon him the name of my God, and the name of the city of my God which is the new Jerusalem, which comes down out of heaven from and with my God, and I will write upon him my new name.

¹⁶ And when Joseph saw Benjamin with them, he said to the ruler of his house, Bring these men home and slay an animal and make ready; for these men shall dine with me at noon.

⁵ Come, eat of my bread, and drink of the wine which I have mingled.

³⁰ For those that tarry long at the wine; those that go to seek mixed wine.

² I would lead thee and bring thee into my mother’s house, that thou would instruct me; I would cause thee to drink of spiced wine of the juice of my pomegranate.

⁶ ¶ And in this mountain the LORD of the hosts shall make unto all people a feast of fat things, a feast of purified wines, of fat things full of marrow, of purified liquids.

³ and sent forth his slaves to call those that were invited to the wedding, and they would not come. ⁴ Again, he sent forth other slaves, saying, Tell those who are invited, Behold, I have prepared my dinner; my bulls and my fatlings are killed, and all things are ready; come unto the marriage. ⁵ But they made light of it and went their ways, one to his farm, another to his merchandise, ⁶ and the others took his slaves and entreated them spitefully and slew them. ⁷ But when the king heard of this, he became angry and sent forth his armies and destroyed those murderers and burned up their city. ⁸ Then he said to his slaves, The wedding is ready, but those who were called were not worthy. ⁹ Go ye therefore into the entrances of the highways and call as many as ye shall find to the marriage. ¹⁰ So those slaves went out into the highways and gathered together everyone that they found, both bad and good; and the wedding was filled with guests. ¹¹ And when the king came in to see the guests, he saw there a man who did not have on a wedding garment, ¹² and he said unto him, Friend, how didst thou come in here not having a wedding garment? And he was speechless. ¹³ Then the king said to the slaves, Bind him hand and foot and take him away and cast him into the darkness outside; there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth. ¹⁴ For many are called, but few are chosen.

¹⁶ Then said he unto him, A certain man made a great supper and called many ¹⁷ and sent his slave at supper time to say to those that were called, Come, for all things are now ready.

⁷ ¶ Purge out therefore the old leaven, that ye may be a new lump, as ye are unleavened. For even Christ, our passover, is sacrificed for us; ⁸ therefore let us celebrate the feast, not in the old leaven, neither in the leaven of malice and wickedness, but in the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth.

¹¹ The Lord shall give a word; great shall be the host of the evangelists thereof.

²⁰ ¶ Wisdom cries without; she utters her voice in the streets: ²¹ She cries in the chief place of concourse, in the entrance to the gates of the city she utters her words, saying, ²² How long, ye simple ones, will ye love simplicity? and the scorners delight in their scorning, and the fools hate knowledge? ²³ Return at my reproof; behold, I will pour out my spirit unto you, I will make known my words unto you.

¹ ¶ Doth not wisdom cry, and give her voice to intelligence? ² She stands in the top of high places, by the way at the crossroads of the paths. ³ She cries at the gates, at the entry of the city, at the coming in at the doors.

⁴⁹ Therefore also said the wisdom of God, I will send them prophets and apostles, and some of them they shall slay and others they shall persecute:

¹⁷ and sent his slave at supper time to say to those that were called, Come, for all things are now ready.

²¹ So that slave came and showed his lord these things. Then the husband of the house, being angry, said to his slave, Go out quickly into the streets and lanes of the city and bring in here the poor and the maimed and the halt and the blind. ²² And the slave said, Lord, it is done as thou hast commanded, and yet there is room. ²³ And the lord said unto the slave, Go out into the highways and hedges and compel them to come in that my house may be filled.

³⁷ ¶ In the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried out, saying, If any man thirsts, let him come unto me and drink.

²⁰ Jesus answered him, I spoke openly to the world; I always taught in the synagogue and in the temple, where all the Jews gather; and I have said nothing in secret.

¹⁵ And how shall they preach if they have not been sent? as it is written, How beautiful are the feet of those that announce the gospel of peace, of those that announce the gospel of that which is good!

²⁰ Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did exhort you by us; we beseech you in Christ’s name, be ye reconciled to God. ²¹ For he has made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin, that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.

⁷ ¶ The law of the LORD is perfect, converting the soul; the testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple.

¹³⁰ ¶ The exposition of thy words gives light; it gives understanding unto the simple.

²² How long, ye simple ones, will ye love simplicity? and the scorners delight in their scorning, and the fools hate knowledge?

³² But whosoever commits adultery with a woman has a fault in his heart; he that does it corrupts his own soul.

⁵ O ye simple, understand prudence; and, ye fools, be ye of an understanding heart.

¹⁶ Whosoever is simple, let him turn in here; and as for him that lacks understanding, she saith unto him:

²⁵ ¶ At that time Jesus answered and said, I praise thee, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because thou hast hid these things from the wise and understanding and hast revealed them unto children.

¹⁷ Because thou sayest, I am rich and increased with goods and have need of nothing and knowest not that thou art wretched and miserable and poor and blind and naked, ¹⁸ I counsel thee to buy of me gold refined in the fire, that thou may be made rich; and clothed in white raiment, so that the shame of thy nakedness not be uncovered; and anoint thine eyes with eyesalve, that thou may see.

¹⁷ And the Spirit and the bride say, Come. And let him that hears say, Come. And let him that is thirsty come; and whosoever will, let him take of the water of life freely.

²⁶ The poor shall eat and be satisfied: those that seek him shall praise the LORD; your heart shall live for ever.

²⁹ All those that are fat upon earth shall eat and worship; all those that go down to the dust shall bow before him; and no one can keep his own soul alive.

¹ ¶ I came into my garden, my sister, my spouse: I have gathered my myrrh and my spice; I have eaten my honeycomb and my honey; I have drunk my wine and my milk: eat, O friends; drink, beloved, drink abundantly.

¹ ¶ Ho, every one that thirsts, come ye to the waters, and he that has no money; come ye, buy, and eat; come, buy wine and milk without money and without price. ² Why do ye spend money for that which is not bread? and your labour for that which does not satisfy? Hearken diligently unto me, and eat ye that which is good, and let your soul delight itself in fatness. ³ Incline your ear, and come unto me: hear, and your soul shall live; and I will make an eternal covenant with you, even the sure mercies of David.

¹² Therefore they shall come and do praises in the height of Zion and shall run unto the goodness of the LORD, unto the bread, and unto the wine, and unto the oil, and unto the gain of the flock and of the herd and their soul shall be as a watered garden; and they shall not sorrow any more at all. ¹³ Then shall the virgin rejoice in the dance, both young men and old together; for I will turn their mourning into joy and will comfort them and make them rejoice from their sorrow. ¹⁴ And I will satiate the soul of the priest with fatness, and my people shall be filled with my goodness, said the LORD.

²⁶ ¶ And as they were eating, Jesus took the bread, and, having blessed it, broke it and gave it to the disciples and said, Take, eat; this is my body. ²⁷ And taking the cup and having given thanks, he gave it to them, saying, Drink ye all of it; ²⁸ for this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins.

²⁷ Labour not for the food which perishes, but for the food which abides unto eternal life, which the Son of man shall give unto you, for him has God the Father sealed.

⁴⁹ Your fathers ate manna in the wilderness and are dead. ⁵⁰ This is the bread which comes down from heaven, that anyone may eat of it and not die. ⁵¹ I AM the living bread which came down from heaven; if anyone eats of this bread, they shall live for ever; and the bread that I will give is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world. ⁵² The Jews therefore contended among themselves, saying, How is he able to give us his flesh to eat? ⁵³ Then Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Unless ye eat the flesh of the Son of man and drink his blood, ye shall have no life in you. ⁵⁴ Whosoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day. ⁵⁵ For my flesh is food indeed, and my blood is drink indeed. ⁵⁶ He that eats my flesh and drinks my blood abides in me, and I in him. ⁵⁷ As the living Father has sent me, and I live by the Father, so he that eats me, he shall also live by me. ⁵⁸ This is the bread which came down from heaven; not as your fathers ate manna and are dead; he that eats of this bread shall live eternally.

⁴ I have not sat with vain persons, neither will I go in with hypocrites. ⁵ I have hated the congregation of evil doers and will not sit with the wicked. ⁶ ¶ I will wash my hands in innocency, so I will walk near unto thine altar, O LORD:

¹⁰ ¶ Hearken, O daughter, and consider and incline thine ear; forget also thine own people, and thy father’s house;

¹¹⁵ ¶ Depart from me, ye evildoers; for I will keep the commandments of my God.

¹¹ I have taught thee in the way of wisdom; I have caused thee to walk in right paths.

¹⁴ ¶ Enter not into the path of the wicked, and go not in the way of evil men. ¹⁵ Avoid it, pass not by it, turn from it, and pass away.

³⁵ For whosoever finds me shall find life and shall obtain the will of the LORD.

¹¹ For by me thy days shall be multiplied, and the years of thy life shall be increased.

¹⁷ ¶ He is in the way of life that gives heed to chastening, but he that refuses reproof errs.

²⁰ ¶ He that walks with wise men shall be wise, but the companion of fools shall be destroyed.

¹³ Enter ye in at the narrow gate, for the way that leads to destruction is wide and spacious, and those who follow it are many; ¹⁴ because narrow is the gate, and confined is the way which leads unto life, and there are few that find it.

²⁴ Strive to enter in at the narrow gate; for many, I say unto you, will seek to enter in and shall not be able.

⁴⁰ And with many other words he testified and exhorted, saying, Be saved from this perverse generation.

¹⁷ Therefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and do not touch the unclean thing; and I will receive you

⁴ And I heard another voice from the heaven, saying, Come out of her, my people, that ye not be partakers of her sins, and that ye receive not of her plagues.

⁸ Behold now, I have two daughters who have not known man; let me, I pray you, bring them out unto you and do ye to them as is good in your eyes; only unto these men do nothing, for they have come under the shadow of my roof. ⁹ And they said, Stand back. And they said again, This fellow came in to sojourn and is he to lift himself up as judge? Now will we deal worse with thee than with them. And they did great violence to the man, even Lot, and came near to break the door.

¹⁷ ¶ And it came to pass when Ahab saw Elijah, that Ahab said unto him, Art thou he that troubles Israel?

²⁰ And Ahab said to Elijah, Hast thou found me, O my enemy? And he answered, I have found thee because thou hast sold thyself to work evil in the sight of the LORD.

²⁴ Then Zedekiah, the son of Chenaanah, went near and smote Micaiah on the cheek and said, Which way did the Spirit of the LORD go from me to speak unto thee?

²⁷ and say, Thus hath the king said, Put this fellow in the prison and feed him with bread of affliction and with water of affliction, until I return in peace.

²⁰ And the Spirit of God clothed himself in Zechariah, the son of Jehoiada, the priest, who being over the people, said unto them, Thus hath God said, Why do ye transgress the commandments of the LORD? Ye shall not prosper in this; for because ye have forsaken the LORD, he shall also forsake you. ²¹ And they conspired against him and stoned him with stones at the commandment of the king in the court of the house of the LORD. ²² Thus Joash, the king, did not remember the mercy which Jehoiada, his father, had done to him but slew his son; who said when he died, The LORD look upon it and require it.

¹⁵ Therefore, the anger of the LORD was kindled against Amaziah, and he sent him a prophet who said unto him, Why hast thou sought after the gods of a people who could not deliver their own people out of thy hand? ¹⁶ And as the prophet was speaking these things unto him, he said unto him, Art thou appointed as the king’s counsel? Forbear; why should thou be smitten? Then the prophet forbare and said, I know that God has determined to destroy thee because thou hast done this and hast not hearkened unto my counsel.

¹⁶ But they mocked the messengers of God and despised his words and misused his prophets until the wrath of the LORD arose against his people, and there was no remedy.

¹² ¶ The scorner does not love the one that reproves him, neither will he go unto the wise.

⁹ ¶ Do not speak in the ears of a fool, for he will despise the prudence of thy words.

¹⁷ Thou shalt not hate thy brother in thine heart; thou shalt rebuke thy neighbour in sincerity, that thou not bear sin for him.

⁶ And Joshua, the son of Nun, and Caleb, the son of Jephunneh, who were of those that had spied out the land, rent their clothes; ⁷ and they spoke unto all the company of the sons of Israel, saying, The land which we passed through to spy out is an exceeding good land. ⁸ If the LORD delights in us, then he will bring us into this land and give it to us, a land which flows with milk and honey. ⁹ Therefore, do not be rebels against the LORD, neither fear ye the people of the land, for they are our bread; their defence is departed from them, and the LORD is with us; do not fear them. ¹⁰ Then all the multitude spoke of stoning them with stones. But the glory of the LORD appeared in the tabernacle of the testimony before all the sons of Israel.

⁷ Then Nathan said to David, Thou art the man. Thus hath said the LORD God of Israel, I anointed thee king over Israel, and I delivered thee out of the hand of Saul, ⁸ and I gave thee thy master’s house and thy master’s wives into thy bosom and gave thee the house of Israel and of Judah, and if that is too little, I shall add unto thee such and such things. ⁹ Why, therefore, hast thou despised the commandment of the LORD, to do evil in his sight? Thou hast killed Uriah, the Hittite, with the sword and hast taken his wife to be thy wife and hast slain him with the sword of the sons of Ammon. ¹⁰ Now, therefore, the sword shall never depart from thy house because thou hast despised me and hast taken the wife of Uriah, the Hittite, to be thy wife. ¹¹ Thus hath the LORD said, Behold, I will raise up evil against thee out of thy own house, and I will take thy wives before thy eyes and give them unto thy neighbour, and he shall lie with thy wives in the sight of this sun. ¹² For thou hast done it secretly, but I will do this thing before all Israel and before the sun. ¹³ Then David said unto Nathan, I have sinned against the LORD. And Nathan said unto David, The LORD also has taken away thy sin; thou shalt not die. ¹⁴ However, because by this deed, thou hast given great occasion to the enemies of the LORD to blaspheme; the son that is born unto thee shall surely die.

²³ And they told the king, saying, Behold Nathan, the prophet. And when he was come in before the king, he bowed himself before the king with his face to the ground.

³² ¶ And King David said, Call me Zadok, the priest, and Nathan, the prophet, and Benaiah, the son of Jehoiada. And they entered into the presence of the king.

⁸ And the king of Israel replied unto Jehoshaphat, There is yet one man, Micaiah, the son of Imlah, by whom we may enquire of the LORD; but I hate him, for he does not prophesy good concerning me, but evil. And Jehoshaphat said, Let not the king say so.

⁵ ¶ Let the righteous smite me in mercy, and let him reprove me: and let not a flattering evil prince anoint my head, for my prayer shall ever be against his evil.

¹⁸ ¶ Poverty and shame shall be to him that refuses chastening: but he that regards reproof shall be honoured.

²³ ¶ He that rebukes a man, afterwards shall find more favour than he that flatters with the tongue.

¹ ¶ He that being often reproved hardens his neck shall suddenly be destroyed and that without remedy.

⁶ Give not that which is holy unto the dogs, neither cast ye your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under their feet and turn again and rend you.

¹⁴ Let them alone; they are blind leaders of the blind. And if the blind lead the blind, both shall fall into a pit.

¹¹ ¶ But when Peter was come to Antioch, I withstood him to the face because he was to be blamed. ¹² For before certain ones came from James, he ate with the Gentiles, but when they were come, he withdrew and separated himself, fearing those who were of the circumcision. ¹³ And the other Jews dissembled likewise with him, insomuch that Barnabas also was carried away with their hypocrisy. ¹⁴ But when I saw that they did not walk uprightly according to the truth of the gospel, I said unto Peter before them all, If thou, being a Jew, dost live after the manner of Gentiles, and not as do the Jews, why dost thou compel the Gentiles to live as do the Jews?

⁴ For it is impossible that those who once received the light and tasted of that heavenly gift and were made partakers of the Holy Spirit ⁵ and likewise have tasted the good word of God and the virtue of the age to come, ⁶ and have backslidden, be renewed again by repentance, crucifying again for themselves the Son of God and putting him to an open shame. ⁷ For the earth which drinks in the rain that comes often upon it and brings forth herbs in season for those by whom it is dressed receives blessing from God; ⁸ but that which bears thorns and briers is rejected and is near unto cursing, whose end shall be by fire.

¹⁵ And have as saving health the patience of our Lord, even as our beloved brother Paul also according to the wisdom given unto him has written unto you ¹⁶ in almost all his epistles, speaking in them of these things, among which are some things that are hard to understand, which those that are ignorant and unstable twist, as they do also the other scriptures, unto their own destruction.

⁵ If the wise will hear them, doctrine shall increase, and the man of understanding shall acquire wise counsel:

¹² As an earring of gold and an ornament of fine gold, so is he who reproves a wise man who has a docile ear.

³ And we shall know and follow on in knowing the LORD; his going forth is prepared as the dawn; and he shall come unto us as the rain, as the latter and former rain unto the earth.

¹¹ He answered and said unto them, Because it is given unto you to know the mysteries of the kingdom of the heavens, but to them it is not given. ¹² For whosoever has, to him shall be given, and he shall have in abundance; but whosoever has not, from him shall be taken away even that which he has.

¹⁸ But grow in grace and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and until the day of eternity. Amen.

²⁰ ¶ But ye have the anointing of the Holy One, and ye know all things. ²¹ I have not written unto you as if ye ignore the truth, but as unto those that know it, and that no lie is of the truth.

¹³ These things I have written unto you that believe in the name of the Son of God, that ye may know that ye have eternal life and that ye may believe in the name of the Son of God.

⁹ And thou, Solomon, my son, know thou the God of thy father and serve him with a perfect heart and with a willing soul, for the LORD searches all hearts and understands all the imaginations of the thoughts. If thou seek him, he will be found of thee; but if thou forsake him, he will cast thee off for ever.

²⁸ And unto man he said, Behold, that the fear of the Lord, is wisdom; and to depart from evil is understanding.

⁷ ¶ The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and chastening.

⁵ then shalt thou understand the fear of the LORD and find the knowledge of God.

³ I neither learned wisdom nor have the knowledge of the holy.

¹³ ¶ The conclusion of the entire sermon is heard: Fear God and keep his commandments, for this is the whole happiness of man.

²⁷ All things are delivered unto me of my Father, and no one has known the Son but the Father, neither has anyone known the Father except the Son and he unto whom the Son will reveal him.

³ And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent.

²⁰ But we know that the Son of God is come and has given us understanding, that we may know him that is true, and we are in him that is true, even in his Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God and eternal life.

² that thou might fear the LORD thy God, to keep all his statutes and his commandments, which I command thee, thou and thy son and thy son’s son, all the days of thy life and that thy days may be prolonged.

² For they shall add length of days and long life and peace unto thee.

¹⁶ Length of days is in her right hand and in her left hand riches and honour.

²⁷ ¶ The fear of the LORD shall prolong days, but the years of the wicked shall be shortened.

² Can a man be profitable unto God? For he that is wise is profitable unto himself. ³ Is it any pleasure to the Almighty that thou art justified? Or is it gain to him that thou makest thy ways perfect?

²¹ ¶ Make up thy friendship now with him, and thou shalt have peace; thereby good shall come unto thee.

⁶ If thou dost sin, what hast thou done against him? Or if thy rebellion is multiplied, what doest thou unto him? ⁷ If thou art righteous, what shalt thou give him? Or what shall he receive of thine hand?

²⁶ ¶ The soul of him that labours, labours for himself; for his mouth craves it of him.

²² Now therefore do not be mockers lest your bands be made strong: for I have heard from the Lord GOD of the hosts that consumption and destruction are determined upon the whole earth.

²⁰ The soul that sins, it shall die. The son shall not bear the iniquity of the father, neither shall the father bear the iniquity of the son; the righteousness of the righteous shall be upon him who is righteous, and the wickedness of the wicked shall be upon him who is wicked.

³ ¶ knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts ⁴ and saying, Where is the promise of his coming? For since the day in which the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation.

¹⁶ in almost all his epistles, speaking in them of these things, among which are some things that are hard to understand, which those that are ignorant and unstable twist, as they do also the other scriptures, unto their own destruction.

⁶ lest thou should ponder the path of life, her ways are unstable; thou shalt not know them.

¹¹ (She is loud and stubborn; her feet do not abide in her house:

⁹ ¶ It is better to dwell in a corner of the housetop than with a brawling woman in a wide house.

¹⁹ ¶ It is better to dwell in the wilderness than with a contentious and an angry woman.

⁴ he is puffed up, knowing nothing, but is driven mad concerning questions and controversy of words, of which comes envy, strife, railings, evil surmisings,

¹⁰ and, behold, a woman met him with the attire of a harlot, and subtil of heart. ¹¹ (She is loud and stubborn; her feet do not abide in her house: ¹² Now without, now in the streets, she lies in wait at every corner.)

³ She has sent forth her maidens; she cries upon the highest places of the city,

¹³ So she caught him and kissed him and with an impudent face said unto him, ¹⁴ I had promised sacrifices of peace; today I have payed my vows. ¹⁵ Therefore I came forth to meet thee, diligently to seek thy face, and I have found thee.

²⁵ Let not thine heart decline to her ways; do not go astray in her paths. ²⁶ For she has caused many to fall down dead; yea, all the strong men have been slain by her. ²⁷ Her house is the way to Sheol, going down to the chambers of death.

²⁷ For a whore is a deep ditch and a strange woman is a narrow pit. ²⁸ She also lies in wait as for a prey and increases the transgressors among men.

⁴ whosoever is simple, let him turn in here; as for those that lack understanding, {Heb. lacking of heart}, she saith unto him,

⁶ ¶ And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was desirable to the eyes, and a tree of covetousness to understand, she took of its fruit and ate and gave also unto her husband with her; and he ate.

²⁴ And when he came to a secret place, he took them from their hand and bestowed them in the house; and he let the men go, and they departed. ²⁵ But when he went in and stood before his master, Elisha said unto him, From where comest thou, Gehazi? And he said, Thy servant went nowhere. ²⁶ Then he said unto him, Did not my heart go with thee when the man turned again from his chariot to meet thee? Is it a time to receive money and to receive garments and oliveyards and vineyards and sheep and oxen and menslaves and maidslaves? ²⁷ The leprosy therefore of Naaman shall cleave unto thee and unto thy seed for ever. And he went out from his presence a leper as white as snow.

¹⁸ Come, let us take our fill of love until the morning; let us solace ourselves with loves. ¹⁹ For the husband is not at home; he is gone a long journey: ²⁰ He has taken a bag of money with him and will come home at the appointed feast day.

¹⁷ ¶ Bread of deceit is sweet to a man, but afterwards his mouth shall be filled with gravel.

³¹ Do not look upon the wine when it is red, when it gives its colour in the cup, it goes down smoothly. ³² At the last it bites like a serpent and stings like an adder.

²⁰ Such is the track of an adulterous woman; she eats, and wipes her mouth, and says, I have done no wickedness.

⁸ Then sin, when there was occasion by the commandment, wrought in me all manner of lust. For without the law sin was as if it were dormant.

¹² For it is a shame even to speak of those things which they do in secret.

¹⁴ But each one is tempted, when they are drawn away of their own lust and enticed. ¹⁵ Then when lust has conceived, it brings forth sin; and sin, when it is finished, brings forth death.

⁵ They do not know, neither do they understand; they walk in darkness; they move all the foundations of the earth.

¹⁸ Therefore her house inclines unto death, and her paths unto the dead. ¹⁹ None that go unto her return again, neither do they take hold of the paths of life.

⁵ Her feet go down to death, her steps uphold Sheol,

²⁶ For by means of a whorish woman a man is reduced to a piece of bread, and the woman will hunt the precious soul of the man.

²⁷ Her house is the way to Sheol, going down to the chambers of death.

⁵ Of course, they willingly ignore that the heavens were created of old and the earth standing out of the water and in the water, by the word of God;
