¹⁴ I am debtor both to the Greeks and to the Barbarians; both to the wise and to the unwise.

²² How long, ye simple ones, will ye love simplicity? and the scorners delight in their scorning, and the fools hate knowledge?

⁵ O ye simple, understand prudence; and, ye fools, be ye of an understanding heart.

⁸ And a highway shall be there and a way, and it shall be called The Way of Holiness; the unclean shall not pass over it; and for those in it there shall be someone to go with them, in such a manner that the foolish shall not err therein.

²⁵ ¶ At that time Jesus answered and said, I praise thee, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because thou hast hid these things from the wise and understanding and hast revealed them unto children.

²¹ In that same hour Jesus rejoiced in spirit and said, I thank thee, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that thou hast hid these things from the wise and prudent and hast revealed them unto babes; even so, Father; for so it seemed good in thy sight.

¹⁵ But the Lord said unto him, Go; for he is a chosen vessel unto me, to bear my name before the Gentiles and kings and the sons of Israel;

² As they ministered to the Lord and fasted, the Holy Spirit said, Separate me Barnabas and Saul for the work unto which I have called them. ³ And when they had fasted and prayed and laid their hands on them, they released them. ⁴ ¶ So they, being sent forth by the Holy Spirit, departed unto Seleucia, and from there they sailed to Cyprus.

²¹ And he said unto me, Depart, for I will send thee far from here unto the Gentiles.

¹⁷ delivering thee from the people and from the Gentiles, unto whom now I send thee ¹⁸ to open their eyes and to turn them from darkness to light and from the power of Satan unto God, that they may receive remission of sins and inheritance among those who are sanctified by the faith that is in me.

² And the barbarous people showed us no little kindness; for they kindled a great fire and received all of us because of the present rain and because of the cold.

⁴ And when the barbarians saw the venomous beast hang on his hand, they said among themselves, No doubt this man is a murderer, whom, though he has escaped the sea, yet vengeance does not suffer him to live.

¹² Therefore, brethren, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live according to the flesh.

²⁵ For I would not, brethren, that ye ignore this mystery, that ye not be arrogant regarding yourselves: that blindness in part has happened in Israel, until the fullness of the Gentiles are come in.

¹⁶ Be unanimous among yourselves, not high minded, but accommodating the humble. Do not be wise in your own opinion.

⁸ Owe no one anything, but love one unto another; for he that loves his neighbour has fulfilled the law.

¹⁹ For your obedience is come abroad unto all places. I am glad therefore on your behalf, but yet I would have you wise unto that which is good and innocent concerning evil.

¹⁹ For it is written, I will destroy the wisdom of the wise and will bring to nothing the understanding of the prudent. ²⁰ Where is the wise? where is the scribe? where is the philosopher of this world? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of this world? ²¹ For in the wisdom of God, since the world by wisdom knew not God, it pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save those that believe. ²² For the Jews require a sign, and the Greeks seek after wisdom,

¹³ Which things also we speak, not in the words which man’s wisdom teaches, but with doctrine of the Holy Spirit, jointly fitting spiritual things by spiritual means.

¹⁸ ¶ Let no one deceive himself. If any one among you seems to be wise in this age, let them become a fool that they may be wise.

¹⁶ For though I preach the gospel, I have no reason to glory, for it is an obligation laid upon me; for woe is me, if I do not preach the gospel! ¹⁷ For if I do this thing willingly, I have a reward; but if against my will, the stewardship of the gospel is committed unto me. ¹⁸ What reward, then, shall I have? That preaching the gospel, I may make the gospel of the Christ without charge, that I abuse not my authority in the gospel. ¹⁹ ¶ Therefore, though I am free regarding everyone, yet I have made myself slave unto all, that I might gain the more. ²⁰ And unto the Jews I became as a Jew, that I might gain the Jews; to those that are under the law, as under the law, that I might gain those that are under the law; ²¹ to those that are without law, as without law (being not without law of God, but under the law of Christ), that I might gain those that are without law. ²² To the weak I became as weak, that I might gain the weak; I am made all things to everyone, that I might by all means save some. ²³ And this I do for the gospel’s sake, that I might be partaker together of it.

¹¹ Therefore, if I ignore the virtue of the voice, I shall be unto him that speaks as a barbarian, and he that speaks shall be a barbarian unto me.

¹⁶ Else when thou shalt bless with the spirit, how shall he that occupies the place of the ignorant say, Amen, at thy giving of thanks, seeing he understands not what thou sayest?

²³ If, therefore, the whole congregation {Gr. ekklesia – called out ones} is come together into one place and all speak with tongues, and there come in those that are unlearned or unbelievers, will they not say that ye are mad? ²⁴ But if all prophesy, and there come in one that does not believe or one unlearned, he is convinced of all, he is judged of all;

¹² ¶ For we dare not mix ourselves in with or compare ourselves with some that commend themselves, but they do not understand that they are measuring themselves by themselves and comparing themselves among themselves.

¹⁹ For ye suffer fools gladly, seeing ye yourselves are wise.

¹⁵ See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise, ¹⁶ redeeming the time, because the days are evil. ¹⁷ Therefore, be ye not unwise, but understanding of what the will of the Lord is.

¹¹ where there is neither Greek nor Jew, circumcision nor uncircumcision, Barbarian nor Scythian, slave nor free: but Christ is all and in all.

¹⁰ Therefore, I endure all things for the sake of the elect, that they may also obtain the saving health which is in Christ Jesus with eternal glory.

³ For we ourselves also were foolish in another time, rebellious, deceived, serving diverse lusts and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful, and hating one another.

¹⁷ But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, modest, benevolent, full of mercy and of good fruits, not judgmental, unfeigned. ¹⁸ And the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace unto those that make peace.
